Engine would abruptly stop running.failure was not dependent on vehicle speed, engine rpm, throttle position, or operating temperature.shutoffs were frequent and came completely without warning.at any time, the engine could completely and unrecoverably shut down.shutoffs were violent due to high compression of the diesel engine, and resulted in partial loss of braking and steering.driving vehicle in presence of traffic would certainly result in an accident!failure was corrected through installation of a "pump-mounted solenoid driver."i know of others who are experiencing the identical symptoms and conditions.
Intake gaskets leaking antyfreeze.the intake gasket leaking at front and rear of the intake and cylinder head,on both sides, front and rear. The gaskets starts to brake down and cracks at all of the water jackets cause them to leak antyfreeze.this is the third vehicle i have done ,all of thembeing 1996 chevy c1500 truck having the 305 engine .one of the vehicles was mine which only had 70,650 miles on it and was maintained by me .i,m a {a.e.s.} certified mech with over 25yr of service.

Due to the defective design of the fuel pump which caused the wires to burn together and cause the fuel pump to be inoperative, resultingthe vehicle to stallwhich almost had an accident.mfr has a new ly design fuel pump.dealer stated that it's a wrong part in the fuel pump which it was the orginal in the vehicle.

Dt: contact stated the fuel pumpburned up, the wires inside the fuel pump had meltd.the fuel pump wasbeing replaced by a local mechanic. Contact stated hecontacted the gm manufacturer, and they did not offer any resolution.
Tl-the electrical wires that goes into the fuel tank than makes the gas tank and the gas gauge work shorted out the fuel pump so that it won't work and the gas gaugae also. He had it repair in mo and after driving about a 100 miles the gas gauge would not work and he took ti to a dealer to get it serviced and they stated they will not fix it. What is the recourse if getting a reimbursement this is the third fuel pump he has put in the vehicle
When removing foot from gas vehicles speed does not decrease, speed remains the same for several miles in first and second gear.
Both my 1996 and 1997 chevrolet c1500's have experienced failed fuel injectors. The 1997 chevrolet needed 6 new fuel injectors at approximately 13,000 miles. The 1996 chevrolet had one injector replaced at 48,500 miles. Both vehicles were purchased used.

I have a 1996 chevy 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive truck with less than 88000 miles.the automatic transmission started slipping while going from 2nd to 3rd and now has no 3rd or 4th.this all occurred in one day.in reading for recalls and tsb's it appears this has been a significant problem for some time and gm chooses not to address the problem.i called today and was told there was nothing that could be done by gm.i barely made it back home with my wife due to the problem.this known problem could cause a serious accident. I wish to lodge a formal complaint against gm and ask that your agency check into the severity and extent of the problem and how long gm has known about the problem.
Consumercannot engagetransmission//cannot shift or put it in gear to make it go. Incidents occurred three times; 2-11-98, 2,546/11-3-98and 42,559. Dealer contacted and repaired each time.incident continues to occur, no warranty, repairs at owners expense.
When ever it rains or if i go through the carwash, the transmission shifts very hard. Feels like someone hit you from behind. Seems like when the transmission harness gets wet is when the problem occurs.

Consumer saw smoke coming out of his wheel well when he pulled over to side, before he could get his familyout of truck,the fire had spread to dash area. There was a trail of transmission fluid leakage along the road, consumer thinks that a transmission hose may have burst.

Transmission failure caused by defective wiring harness (general motors service bulletin 667103). Service bulletin issued 6/96, but consumers aren't notified until transmission failure. Five coworkers are currently having the same problems. Names and phone numbers can be provided upon request. Two of these were left stranded with disabled trucks. G.m. Is taking no action on this.

While driving down highway, suddenly there was a jolt,left rear axle had sheared off at wheel, causing loss of control of vehicle, the vehicle rolled over several times.
Complete failure of rear axle assembly. Carrier bearings lost preload. Replacement of ring gear, pinion, axle shafts, carrier bearings, pinion bearings, axle bearings & seals required. This should not have failed at this mileage. Repair cost was $2105.00. Chevrolet motor division has experienced several failures of the c1500 pickup axles in 1995, 1996 & 1997. Also maybe 1998. A friend had (2) axles replaced on his 1995 c1500 suburban under warranty. He also has noise in his current suburban & is taking it in to be replaced under warranty. Mine had made noise but was never listed as a problem by joe self chevrolet.

Interior system anchor track is defective, and seat will not hold. Dealership is aware ofproblem. Consumer states that while traveling at a constant speed, the seat is fine, however once the brakes are applied the seat starts to slide forward automatically without anyone touching the lever.

Reclining seat mfr. Recall #97008 . Pinch point in recliner mechanism could trap and pinch a person's hands or finger off. Dealers claims they don't know how to repair and they will receive a letter recalling this recall.

Front seat mount, gm power seats. I am a automotive design engineer, my company makes the seat in question, but i do not work for that division. The lower front mount cracked and failed when i was leaning back on my seat while driving down the freeway, i was thrown into the back cab, i almost lost control of my truck. I investigated the failure and found that it is due to a very poor design. This mount has to eventually fail, because a bolt is inserted in the middle of a very thin sheet metal mount plate, every time there is a load placed on that seat, this flange bends beyond its elastic limit, this flange will eventually crack. I have repaired this myself but i would like to warn others of this problemmy vechicle is a 1996 cheverolet z-71 silverado pick up truck with the 6 way power bucket seats. Thank you
The dealership has not recieved the recall part for the truck since march. The part is for the seatback of the drivers seat.

Clear coat on the paint came off of the finish several years back and i wanted to know if there was any recall on that issue. I take serious pride in my vehicle and if general motors assumes pride in their product as they advertise them to be then they won't mind amending the problem. I have never been made aware of any recall on this problem so any information you can supply to me would be greatly appreciated.

Chevrolet fullsize truck recall tailgate support cables.*mrgm issued a recall of 2000-2004 silverados for tailgate support cables which are known to rust and fail.the consumer believes the recall should be expanded to at least 1995 vehicle equipped with the cable tailgate hanger since those are also known to rust and break.the consumer had to replace the tailgate cable hanger on his 1996 c1500 2 years after the vehicle was purchased.
Failed tailgate cables on 1996 chevrolet silverago 1/2t pickup. Why are only vehicles starting in 2000 model year being recalled? i had to pay to replace them on my 1996. Many people are complaining about 1994 thru 1998 models that i know.

Tires on the right side have chunks coming out by the tread. The other 2 tires on the left side are having tread separation. The steel belts are showing on the passenger side. Took to firestone retailer & informed would not exchange tires for other tires eventhough they were bad until payment was made first.firestone, lt245/75r16 on 1996, chevrolet, c1500 with 119,000 miles.the firestone dealer wanted full retail price for replacement of defective tires.

I have had these tires on my truck for a little over a year. Within the first month i had 2 of these tires replaced because the tread was separatinig. Again this month i had to have another tire replaced because it was bulging and seperating. I wrote customer service at firestone and they never replied,once by mail and twice by e-mail. These tires do have the "vd" dot code. (dot number: vdtiresize: 33x12.50x1)

There are apparently many more problems than just what they recalled in 1998. The internet has hundreds of complaints from various chevy truck owners in recent years. Whenever it is raining or snowing windshield wipers will either not come on at all, or if they do, you can't turn them off. During the times that the windshield wipers won't work properly, the windshield washers will not operate. If the wipers or washers are used during a period of dry weather, they both work properly. There is a recall out on certain trucks just like mine for this very same problem, but chevrolet says my truck does no qualify for this recall because it was built in a different plant. It is my opinion that even tho my truck was assembled in another plant, the circuit board mentioned in the recall could have been assembled in the same plant as the defective ones and then installed on my truck at the other plant. The nhsta safety bulltein that mentions this defect on the 1996 chevrolet c-1500's is"campaign number 98v150001". The chevroletnumber is "campaign number 98043". I have called nhsta several times over this issue and have been told by the lady on the phone that the safety bulletin in question doesn't even exist. I have given her the campaign number and still she says she has no idea what i am talking about. How can nhsta put out bulletins and not have a clue how to track them. If my mechanic can find them, why can't nhsta's own employees find them?" i have taken this truck off the road until i can resovle this situation because i don't want to put the lives of my daughters and other drivers at risk because of the defective solder joints on the circuit board that control my wipers, therefore the visibility of the driver is impaired. Windshield wipers operate intermittently during use. Nthsa campaign 98v150000 addresses this issue for vehicles of the same make, model, and year of manufacturing. However, chevrolet has not included my vehicle in the recall. I paid for service identical to that required by the recall campaign to correct the problem on 4/5/99 and was told by the dealership that i would have to contact chevrolet for reimbursement. Chevrolet maintains that since my vehicle vin was not included in the recall, they have no obligation to cover the expense (chev case #: 990184509). I believe chevrolet should expand their recall to include my vehicle and any others of the same make, model, and year that experience the failure described in the recall.
