Truck stalls when driving at any speed without warning for no reason. Steering has sudden fast jerk to right then we have to over correct to left, hazard lights wouldn't turn off now they are not functional, driver side window has a mind of its own. Wiper fluid motor doesn't work, gas gauge doesn't work it just vibrates really fast. There are wires in dash that have burn marks and other components are melted. Its amazing that this truck even runs! we have spent 1200 on this pile and still haven't even fixed any of these problems.

Intake manifold leaking coolant.

Leaking intake manifold gasket.

Intake manifold leaking oil and coolant at 54,000 miles.will cost me over $400.00 to have repaired.i know of many other 1998 k-1500 trucks w/ vortec 350 with the same issue.

Intake coolant leak on a 1998 k1500 $850 for a temporary fix

Heater core failure due to oem coolant corrosion.

Traveling about 100mph, when vehicle died out. Took to dealer & was informed safety feature built-in due to requirement by nhtsa. Computer has a built-in safety feature.

Intake manifold gasket failure on 5.7 liter engine. From what the local chevrolet dealership (w-k chevrolet) told me, they replace 2 or 3 a week. Something to expect between 75,000 to 100,000 miles. This seems way over the line when spark plugs are expected to last 100,000 miles.ts

Intake manifold gaskets leaking anti-freeze.many trucks are experiencing this same problem.my truck has 74000 miles and i know of 2 others w/ 78,000 and 66,000 miles that needed gasket replacement.talking to a dealer employee revealed that it is a popular problem with the chavy vortec motors.at a cost of around $400.00, it is a too frequent problem.thank you.*nlm

The automatic transmission failed with relatively low milage just out of warranty. When the transmission was rpleced with a gm replacement they included updated aprts but it was not covered because there was no recall and it was just out of warranty. The transmission shifted very sloopy but i was told this was normal, then it eventualy failed.

The driver's side seat belt comes unlatched even after having it click in place. This has happened ever since purchasing the truck.

Normalusage of truck, hot or cold, happens about 20% of the time.when coming to a stop, at about 5mph, the abs turns on and incresses the stoping distance.no damage yet but this weekend i came much too close to hitting a family crossing the street.i have not driven the truck since but after doing some research i have found there is a tsb#634839, for 99-02 silverados with this problem.it states dirty wheel speed sensors or sensors out of range.i will be folowing the directions there to attempt to repair my 98 silverado.i am not positive but i believe gm of canada has already recalled affected models to repair this problem. There is no abs light or codes stored.i did not realize how large this problem is but chevy truck world has a 3 page forum filled with people complaining about this very issue (http://chevytruckworld.tenmagazines.com/forums/topic.ten?pos=2&id=94989).i believe this is a serious safty hazzard since there is no warning light and as i found out this weekend, a few extra feet of stoping distance matters.thank you for your time.

Brake failure on 2 separate occasions due to brake line ruptures...once 6' below the master cylinder and 8 months later on a line to a rear brake. Both times lost the pedal. My truck is a 1998 ck 1500 with virtually no body rot. I was surprised that#1 there was a complete loss of pedal and #2 a second perforation occurred so soon. I will fill out the form for incident #1 ( july 2009) the other rupture was 23 mar 2010.

My 1998 chevy silverado pickup truck had a brake line failure due to the brake line rusting out because the design has the brake line laying on top of a steel guard under the front of the truck where snow gathers rather easily and it is almost impossible to inspect the line there. I rear ended another vehicle on a highway due to the line rupturing without any prior notice of leaking when i applied the brakes. I had my truck towed to a repair shop and they replaced the line. They discovered where the rupture was and said it is a poor design of gm to place a line where it can rust out so easily without being detected.

I have a 1998 chevy pickup truck with anti-lock brakes.for the last 2 years, the anti-lock brakes would activate whenever the vehicle is moving at speeds less than 10 mph; this makes it difficult when trying to stop at slow speeds.i recently found out that 1999 & 2000 chevy pickup trucks have a recall for the same abs problem that i am experiencing with my 1998 truck.i went to the dealer to discuss this recall with them and they said that it was caused by the speed sensor and that it was the same problem that the recall was addressing, but because my truck was a 1998, they could not do anything unless chevrolet gave them the ok.i went to chevrolet's customer service and they said they would not cover it under the recall.i talked to another owner of a 1998 chevy pickup and his truck had the same abs problem.his solution to the problem was removing the abs fuse.my concern is that chevrolet has a known problem with the 1998 abs system as well, but in the interest of saving money, they are not including it in their recall.i feel that since 1998 vehicles have the same anti-lock brake issues as the 1999 and 2000 vehicles, 1998 vehicles should be included in the recall as well.

I have a 1998 chevrolet pickup truck that periodically has the anti-lock brakes engage for no known reason when you are traveling at a slow speed and apply the brakes.this engagement of the abs makes stopping the vehicle in a reasonable distance difficult.i have read about several people with this problem in these vehicles.it is my understanding that there either is a recall or may be a recall some be a recall on 1999 and later models of this vehicle in certain states.it appears to me that 1998 models of this truck may have the same problem that is causing the possible recall i mentioned above.

My vehicle has the problem described in nhtsa campaign #05v379000. My antilock brakes activate at low speed making it difficult to stop my truck.

Abs brakes come on at low speeds on dry pavement.happens everytime i use the brakes.stopping distance is increased.this is a safety issue.the 1998 trucks should be recalled like the newer ones.why are only the 1999 and newer trucks recalled?the 1998 trucks have the same problem.

Sensor on driver front wheel not working right for last 3 years wheel will slide bad on wet ground gravel grass ect. Many close calls in last couple of years.

Gm has had and still has numerous problems with their abs. My 1998 silverado has at least 12 times lost braking when hitting a small bump in the road usually coming to a stop. I have actually slid past stop signs and into busy intersections, luckily no damage yet. But what am i supposed to tell the police when they see me slide past a stop sign? "oh, you see, this gm truck has a known problem with the brakes". Is gm going to pay for the ticket or worse, property and liability claims when i actually do hit a person or another vehicle?i have seen nearly 250 individual complaints on this issue on the nhtsa website. Some that led to crashes and damage. My question is: when will nhtsa force gm to recognize and recall their abs failures???? gm won't recognize this because it will cost millions to resolve this. It's always easier for them to ignore the problem and blame the "stupid" consumer for not knowing how to use their abs brakes. This problem goes back as far as 1995 year models and continues on current production models. Gm knows there is problems with their abs systems, but continues to slap them in their new models. Please nhtsa - force gm to recall their abs brakes in all the affect model years!!!!!!

Abs brakes engage on dry pavement when comming to a stop. This happens at every stop and increases stopping distance greatly.

Dt: the contact states there isa nhtsa recall campaign05v379000 concerning the anti lock brakes. This vehicle is experiencing the same problems as indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to vin.the contact repaired the vehicle at his own expense.

Vehicle goes into anti-skid mode on dry pavement, vehicle does not stop. I wound up on sidewalk on may 7, 2003.visited chevrolet dealership on may 8; claims faulty regulator ring in front hubs causing abs to activate at incorrect intervals. Could not tell me which one was bad! wanted to try to replace one, if that didn't work would replace other. All at cost to me! $1000 for repairs. I'm amazed they can not even diagnose their own faulty parts and want to charge me for their trial and error repairs, including possible unnecessary repairs because of their incompetent diagnosis.i know of two other people who have had this problem, they have the same model and make, different years: 2000, and 2001.*nlm

I have just read the following on cnn:detroit (reuters) - general motors corp. Is recalling 804,000 full-size pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles because of potential brake problems, federal safety regulators said tuesday. The national highway traffic safety administration said unwanted application of the antilock brake system in some vehicles can cause increased stopping distances during low-speed braking and may result in a crash.vehicles affected by the recall include the chevrolet avalanche and silverado pickups and the chevrolet suburban and tahoe suvs. The gmc sierra pickup and yukon and yukon xl suvs are also affected. All 804,000 vehicles trucks are from the 1999-2002 model years, nhtsa said.this exact problem exists on my 1998 chevrolet silverado 4x4 pickup. I have lived with the problem now for over two years as i have been told by mechanics that there is no problem with my abs brakes that they can find.my experience has been just as stated above... My abs system engages at low speeds... Such as coming to a stop for a traffic light, stop sign etc.initially it took me by surprise and i am still very worried that it will fail at higher speeds.how can i get gm to honor the recall on 1998 trucks?this happens 95+% of the time when slowing down or coming to a stop.thank you,joe montague, 845-435-1915 days.

Abs wheel sensor problems. Tsb released but no recall. Could cause serious accident. Brakes shutter when slowing down. Brought to dealership to have serviced but my warranty wouldn't cover due to tsb. Many complaints by other people online due to this problem. A $500.00 repair. Should be racalled.

I have a 1998 chevy c1500 extended cab p/u. If you hold normal pressure on the brake pedal at a stop sign or light, the pedal holds just fine. But if you push just a little harder, it goes down. I have taken it almost to the floor. There is no brake fluid leaking. It never gets low. I have put a new, not used, master cylinder from autozone on it. It does the same thing. I used to be an auto mechanic at a.k. Durnin chrysler plymouth in baton rouge louisiana. I now sell auto parts and i'm telling you, this is not normal. Also, if i hit the brakes kind of hard, and then let off just a little, it makes a noise and an uneven breaking pattern. It's the anti-lock brakes, braking and letting off, repetitively. About like the rhythm of a jack hammer. Oh, i spent 3 1/2 years at the dodge dealer as a mechanic. I did brakes every week. I was the mechanic that they would bring a car to, when no one else could fix it right!

I began to have trouble with my brakes in september of 2004.at very low speeds (under 5mph) my anti lock brakes would start firing for no apparent reason.i took the vehicle into the shop and they cleaned the speed sensors on the abs.a few weeks later, the abs started to do the same thing again.i took the vehicle back in and they did some kind of test on the speed sensors.they reported back to me that one of the speed sensors had gone bad.they replaced the speed sensor at that time, oct 11, 2004.i have not had any problems since but have seen a report with certain vehicles being recalled for this problem.my vehicle is not one that has been recalled but has the same problem described in the recall i read.how can you say wisconsin is not part of the salt belt??that seems ridiculous.

Abs brakes on 1998 gm c/k model pickups.

The abs braking system activates at low speeds while applying brakes.there is a recall by gm for 1999 for the same issue.unfortunately, they tell me that a 1998 is not involved as of yet.

In late 2003, i had antilock brake problems with my 1998 chevrolet silverado 1500 pickup truck.at low speeds, the antilock brake sensor would display, and the vehicle would continue to glide through intended stopping points.until i got used to the stopping distance, i was rolling past stop signs.i took the truck in to a chevrolet dealer, who among other things, replaced the speed control sensor.it took two trips to the dealer before they could figure out the problem.at that time, the truck had only 42,000 miles on the vehicle.i called chevrolet to complain about the defect, but got no help from the manufacturer. The latest recall notice concerning chevrolet's antilock breaks appears to be the exact problem i experienced almost 2 years ago.my concern is that the notice only includes 1999-200? models, and only those in cold weather states.i feel my vehicle should be included in the recall because the problems appear to be identical.i don't live in one of the cold weather states mentioned in the notice, but i do live within a few miles of, use the truck every weekend possible to trailer my boat to, and travel over the chesapeake bay -- a saltwater body of water.maryland also uses salt on the roads, which should include it with the other cold-weather states.there's too much of a coincidence in defects not to have my truck included.i'd appreciate it if you reconsidered the years and vehicle locations to include 1998 models in maryland, or at least consider those that are located near saltwater.if you don't include my vehicle, will i ever find out if it was considered, or why my claim was dismissed?i don't have the old parts because i thought my problem was unique, so didn't feel the need to hang onto anything as proof.all i have is my original complaint to the service department, which still has the problem on record.

While driving onhighway at about 60-70mph and applyingbrakes, brakes will go all the way tofloor, making it hard to stop.at times does not stop at all. Contacted dealer, and dealer did not fixcar.two studs were replaced.pcm was updated to correct the engine suge under load.

Front rotor on chevrolet cheyenne 4 wheel drive pick-up separated into two parts.the inner section being the part where the lugs are.the outer section being the portion the brake pads ride on.inspection of the rotors shows an insufficent thickness in the metal of the rotor.this is not an isolated incident.a friend of mine had the same thing happen to him.i replaced the rotors with new ones, but i was fortunate that i heard a noise at a toll booth as i pulled onto a high speed highway.i have the defective part.

Truck pulls violently to right when braking. Dealer informed me it was a collapsed brake line.brake lines were replaced. I do have old parts.

Brake pedal went to floor. Loss of rear brakes due to rusted, ruptured rearsteel brake line.replaced rear steelbrake line.

While driving 25 mph, the rear left steel brake line broke due to rust. .the consumer stated when he applied the brake, the vehicle failed to stop and the pedal went all the way to the floor.the consumer replaced the part himself.

While driving the power steering gave a quick lock up and lost power steering took pump off and pulley and shaft fell out of pump.

Steering:i am having problem with the steering when turning right during a long turn, it feels like i hit a patch of ice or like someone grab he steering wheel & jerk it to the right.this problem does not seem to be getting worst but i do not like the feel.someone who does not know about this problem when driving the truck could over steer.

When i boughtmy 1998 chevy pickup it had a place in the steering when i turned it to the right it felt like i hit a patch of ice. It felt likethere was a dead spot. Nowit is getting worse. Now when i turn to the left it is starting to do the same thing.it doesn't matter what speed your going it still does it. *la

Every so often it feels as if someone grabs the steering wheel and for a breif moment it feels as if there is no steering.

My 1998 truck has had a spot in the steering that when you are turning thereisa momentary lost of steering.it seems to happen when there is cooler weather. There also seems to be a lot of play in the steering wheel at times .both of these problemscome and go but have been getting worst over the years.

Steering wheel position sensor: steering will jerk when driving straight.was told that the sensor had a "worn" spot and that the power steering boost was being added at pull power because the system did not know what the steering wheel was doing.

I experienced an intermittent loss of power steering when turning, then surges which causes me to over steer. I have researched this problem and know that gm has issued a recall on other models but not mine.please see below:gm, the world's largest auto maker, said it had 15 reports of crashes as a result of problems with the power steering, including three injuries but no fatalities.the lower pinion bearing in the power steering gear could separate, gm said. Most reports indicated that drivers experienced an intermittent loss of power steering when turning left, usually at low speeds.some drivers could experience higher resistance when turning left, followed by an unintended power assist to the right, gm said.

Tailgate cables broke while loading furniture onto truck. Damaged truck bed and injured two family members from the cables breaking upon loading furniture into bed of fairly new truck with only 30 thousand miles on it. (29,995) .

I hate to sound repetitive ,but i also have a 1998 chevy silverado 4x4 that has a windshield wiper motor problem. I also think that gm should step-up and fix this problem because when it happens to so many of the same vehicles i feel as though it's a factory defect. This has been happening for a long time. The truck doesn't have but 61,000 miles on it. I confronted them about it and they wouldn't help me out. That's why i have a toyota ,that's made in the usa, sitting in my driveway.god bless the usa !!!

Rear view mirror switch caught on fire.*la

Wipers fail to start or stop at any time if they do start to work. I understand that if my truck was a 1997 this would be covered under recall 03023, but since it's a 1998 it's not covered even though it's the same issue!!!(bad control board)

The windshield wiper motor wouldn't turn off when switched off, and the speed could not be adjusted using the intermittent setting.it seemed to clear up hours after driving, but this could be a dangerous situation depending on the amount of rain and driving conditions.

The windshield wipers suddenly stop working and make a loud buzzing sound.sometimes it takes minutes before they work again.during which times it was raining or snowing heavily and at night it is nearly made me run off the road.this is a serious and life threatening defect.

Inoperative windshield wipers. The first time experiencing this problem, i was caught in a heavy rainstorm, in addition to heavy inter-city traffic conditions, on my way to work, upon turning on my windshield wipers there was no response. This is an intermittent problem which has occurred several times and appears to becoming more frequent. This problem also occurs in the washer mode and appears to have a no mode adherence. From mentioning this in conversations, i have discovered this is a reoccurring problem in several other years silverado's. Consequently, gm has another problem they are failing to recognize how many accidents/deaths are going to have to occur before they address this issue, in addition to intermittent problems regarding other equipment that creates a potential safety hazard!

Windshield wiper on 1998 k1500 pickup operates intermittently, sometimes stopping while operating, at other times not operating when turned on.hitting the cover on the windshield motor will almost always restart the wipers.identical problem to that on my 1995 k1500 pickup.sounds identical to the problems covered in gm recall no. 03023.problem started at about 75,000 miles, continues to this day at 126,000 miles.incident date is approximate.

Wipers failed to work onnumerous occasions.

Windshield wiper failure, when wipers are needed, they fail to function, requiring driver to manually move wiper arm to get them started.

Consumer stated the windshield wiper quit when they were needed. When the consumer turned the wipers on, there was a buzz soundbut the windshield wiper didn't work. Sometimes they will work and other times they didn't work. The dealer ship said the circuit board was bad.

Malfunctioning windshield wipers

Windshield wipers stop working while in use.

My windshield wipers do not work all the time.i know that there was a recall on 1997 and older chevrolet trucks and i brought it to the attention of the dealer that i take my truck to for service. They said that there is not any recall for my 1998 chevrolet pickup truck.please help me!!!!! *la

1 windshield wipers intermentent. 2very dangerous when driving in rain. 3 removed and replaced wipper motor circuit board and cover.

While driving in rainy weather, the front windshield wipers failed. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The cause was not determined. Please provide more information.

Windshield wipers stopped working during rain storm.1998 chevorlet pickup.

Windshield wipers stopped working during hard rain storm, and are intermittently at other times,1998 chevorlet c1500 pickup

I have a 1998 chevrolet k1500 pickup, the windshield wiper motor will suddenly stop while in operation,i know there is a recall on models up to 1997,but why not the 1998 models, they use the same parts! it's kinda scary when you are going down i-95 in maine in the middle of a snow storm with your kids in the truck and the windshield wipers decide they are going to stop and you have to roll down the window and stick your head out to see where you are at on the road and hope to hell you can find a safe place to pull over. This problem has been on going with this truck since i owned it(january 2001,28000 miles) and g.m. Should pay to fix the problem. It is a major safety concern.thank you for your time.

Windshield wipers stopped working several times. I seen this was a problem with many other vehicle years. Why didn't the 1998 models get included? the latest occurrence was 3/8/2006. I was driving down the freeway during a down pour and they just stopped. I had to work my way to the shoulder and try to get them to start again. It's very scary when this happens at 60 miles per hour. Turning off the engine and starting it again gets them going again but other times i've had to tap on the wiper motor to get them started again.

Wipers would stop working when raining.they will run for a little bit and then get stuck . I would have to pull on them to get them going again. I see there is a recall for 1997 trucks but mine being a 1998i had to pay for repairs. Close to $ 200.00.

The windshield wipers operates intermittently or fail completely due to the failure of the windshield wiper control module, wiper module.

Windshield wipers will stop working at times. You can turn wiper switch off and on and they may work again but will stop again. Sometimes it harder to get them working again. I understand there has been a recall on some early models with this same problem. Why not the 1998 models with same problem?

Wiper's stop working randomly.identicle problem to recall number 03v159000on 97 trucks.gm is refusing to rectify problem.

Windshield wipers are defective. Sometimes they work and other times they don't.

Wiper motor: motor will stop working intermittently.currently have four wire ties holding wiring harness connector tight against motor body.this is a temporary fix.

My 1998 chevrolet z71 pickup has a malfunctioning windshield wiper motor. This is not the only one on this model pickup i have had to go out. I own two pickups this year model, and both have the problem. Seems like gm should pick up on this and fix the defect. I have to keep rainx in my vehicle to help me see in rain storms. The local chevrolet dealer wants too much to fix the problem, so i have to deal with it the only way i know how to. It has cause many near misses for me, and i am sure it will cause a wreck if it continues to go unfixed.

On many occasions when wipers are needed, they fail to work. After researching the problem, i found that on 1997 and older c\k pickups, this problem has been recalled,(gm recall no. 03023). Maybe something should be done about this problem, before somebody is hurt or killed.

Windshield wiper washer works intermediately on my chevrolet ck 1500 pick-up. Same as on the 1996 model which was recalled due to bad connection on wiring. I have had wipers stop working in bad weather then start working again.

The windshield wipers intermittently fail.this has occurred on multiple occasions.gm will not issue a recall even though it is a known problem on 1998 models.there is a recall on the 1997's.

Windshield wipers work intermitently. Stop half way through cycle. Continue to run after being shut off. Same problem gm has had for years. Same problem we had with 1995 suburban. Same problem we had with 1996 tahoe. From looking at the complaints starting to appear on your web site, the recall needs to be amended to include the 1998 model year.

Windshield wipers start and stop.sometimes you can get them to restart by switching them off and waiting a few seconds.other times you have to turn the engine off and then restart it before they will operate again.apparently this has been a problem with previous years up to 1997.why 1998 was not included is a good question since the problem still exists.

The windshield wipers intermittently fail.this has occurred on multiple occasions.gm will not issue a recall even though it is a known problem on 1998 models.there is a recall on the 1997's.

Windshield wipers will stop working creating a very dangerous situation.

Windshield wipers are not functioning correctly.fortunately the wipers are functional although they will not function intermittently.they also do not park when the switch is turned to off position and will continue to operate until they park in random positions at a random interval up to five minutes observed so far.the "mist" operation also exhibits the same behavior and but be used to eventually get them to stop in an acceptable position for driving.internet research indicates this is a common problem for vehicles of similar type for several years previous (for which there is a recall) and is related to a connection to the circuit board that controlls wiper operation.

While driving onhighway at about 60-70mph and applyingbrakes, brakes will go all the way tofloor, making it hard to stop.at times does not stop at all. Contacted dealer, and dealer did not fixcar.two studs were replaced.pcm was updated to correct the engine suge under load.
