When driving and applying brakes there is a loud noise coming from the brakes.dealer states there isn't anything wrong with the brakes.also,there is thick black smoke coming from the exhaust system when driving the vehicle due to malfunctioning of the catalytic converter.the dealer can't determine problem with the brakes, and t thinks the problem iswith the computer chip.

The emergency brake cable lever broke on three different times.
Speedometer failed.
Transmission does not shift out of low gear;also, mount bolts securing the tilt whel knuckle came loose, allowing the steering wheel to move freely up/down and upper/lower ball joints failed.

The seat belt retractor works only sometimes and when it fails the belt gets caught in the door. Belt is now shredded in some places making it unsafe. I contacted chevrolet numorous times about this and just wanted a replacement to buy. They said they no longer made them. First try was 1997, then 1999, and now 2001. They need to keep safety items in stock. I have a friend that has a gmc jimmy fullsize 1987, same exact problem. That is reason i am trying again, this time with the goverment. Thank you.

Brakes first gave a problem 2 blks from dlrship on day of purchase - the system was evidently locked on - noticed a brake "smell" & returned to dlrship. Left for repairs - was given loaner. Noticed that vehicle noticeably slowed down when foot was removed from accelerator - more so than normal. Abs light started coming on in aug. 1995. Would have them reset abs system. Two wks ago abs lights came on & noticed almost no braking systems available. Acted as if a/cyl had just gone out. Replacement of m/cyl made no difference in operation of vehicle.

This is safety problem with all 91& 92 (and possibly more) s-10 blazers - i have tried many 91 & 92 anytime i saw someone with one - i took quite awhile before i realized it - when making a "panic stop" as in quickly pushing down the brake pedal - it fights back for about 1 second - this doesnt sound like much but - if a child runs out between parked cars - every second counts - i have tried other gm vehicles and this problem does not exsist - only on s-10 blazers - the dealer said it was normal with dual action brake boosters when i showed them years ago (i have just recently become aware of your service).

When backing down a hill in 2 wheel drive, the front brakes lock up but the rear brakes do nothing to stop. The vehicle kept skidding down the hill until until i got to a flat section. In 4 wheel drive the rear brakes work properly and stop the vehicle.

About 1 year later, the abs computer was replaced. In 1995 the brake pads were replaced with 40,000 miles. One week later the abs warning light came on. I'm the original owner of a 1991 chev. S-10 blazer whom has lived at the same address since before the purchase of the vehicle. I have never received any recall information on this vehicle since the purchase of it. The paint has been washing off of the vehicle, it leaves the primer. The paint is separating from the primer.
