My granddaughter was driving the vehicle and was the only one involved in the accident friday, july 25 2014.. She was critically injury, and is still in the hospital. It looks like the air bags did not deploy and for unknown reason the vehicle left the road and hit a utility pole.as everyone reported a similar problem/accident.
The passenger seat sensor is defective causing the passenger air bag to turn off making it dangerous for a passenger in case of accident
On/about 07-24-2015 the airbag warning light came on and stayed on.i contacted gm/chevrolet and was told to take car to authorized chevy mechanic to determine problem.modern chevrolet mechanic diagnosed two defective airbag sensors in passenger airbag.cost to replace the sensors $1697.48.contacted gm/chevy and was informed by gm/chevy customer service that no one would authorize repair because no recall had been issued by chevy.the nhtsa's database has a service bulletin # sb-12-09-41-001 stating that gm llc had notified it of "counterfeit vehicle airbag modules for chevy aveo models 2011-2015!this is a critical safety violation!i cannot afford to pay to replace these 2 airbag modules.chevrolet/gm needs to recall the 2011-2015 chevrolet aveo's and replace both passenger airbag modules.
I bought my chevy aveo lt in 2013 with a little over 39,000 and within 6 months i noticed the passenger side air bag light was only staying on sometimes; and then a couple of months ago i noticed that it was staying off. I took my car to the dealer as i bought an extended warranty, and they told me it was the sensor in the set and that it would have to be replaced at the cost of $1600 as it is not covered by my warranty as it is a factory defect. I did a lot of looking on the internet and found this has been a problem with the aveo since at least 2006. The one person that finally got gm to fix theirs after a lot of words back and forth says it went out again 6 months later. This is a very serious matter as the passenger is at risk and in my case it is my 13 yr old grandson i'm raising that i take back and forth to school everyday much less everywhere else. I'm 68 and do not have the kind of money that is needed to fix this problem so i hope g m willplace these cars on recall and fix this problem in the aveos before someone is hurt or dead.

Arrived at home put my car in park and my key was stuck in the ignition and unable to shut my car off. Had to pull fuse to the computer and disconnect negative side of battery. Took it to a shop they advised no communication with shifter. Shop drilled out my old ignition lock cylinder and replaced with a new key lock cylinder. Seems to be working as of now after a $518.74 bill.

I have owned this car for less than a year and it has shut down while driving 4 times already.i have taken it to the dealer for repair they say they can not find anything wrong that they would have to be driving it when it shuts down.so this is how it happens i am on the highway driving and out of nowhere my entire car just shuts down and i am trying to coast to safety.imagine that not being a safety issue and that this car has not been recalled yet. Recently i have been speaking with another person who owns the same exact car and he told me that his car has shut down just like that on several occasions.so if this is happening to me and another random person that i am speaking with i am wondering why this car is not being recalled.i am afraid that i am going to die in that car how safe can driving on a highway and have your car suddently shut down with cars flying past you at 70 or 80 miles an hours be.please look into this i believe that there should be a recall on this car.i see below that you are asking for specific dates that this has happened i do not know those exact dates so i will pick a date.
On the night of 3/13/13 i was driving on a two lane road with my lights on. I was traveling east through an intersection where the cross road only had to stop and i had the right of way. A vehicle traveling south failed to stop at the stop sign. I was unable to sound my horn and had to run off the road to avoid a collision. The horn on the 2011 aveo is only 1" x 1 1/4 " on each side the center of the steering wheel. They are so small and hard to find, that a person driving must take their eyes off the road to find them during the day time. At night a light must be turned on to find them because they are not illuminated. I feel this is a serious safety issue because of the small size and difficulty to find without loosing sight of the road.
All my brake lights went out and my ac went out about the same time i took it for a oil change and this is what they told me when the checked out my car i'm a senior citizen on a fixed income and did not want to hear this i'm wondering if my warranties is still valid.
Electrical system problems.
The car struggles to accelerate and can barely go over 40 mph. When pressing on the gas pedal the gar shakes and stutters uncontrollably and the car randomly stutters while driving on the road. The car has terrible fuel economy and literally your foot can have the gas pedal to the floor and you can barely reach over 30 mph, the issue progresses and gets worse with time. The car is barely drivable and places the driver at risk of being run off the road.
The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power and decelerated rapidly. The failure occurred four times prior to the most recent failure and was repaired. The vehicle was able to be restarted and was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. After diagnosis, the dealer advised the contact that they were unable to diagnose the failure but they would try replacing the wiring harness in the instrument panel cluster. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assitance. The failure mileage was approximately 10,249.

I have been to the shop so many times since i bought this car. The first time out of nowhere it started smoking white smoke and overheated the engine and come to find out the tubing in the car had exploded. Then got everything fixed and now still having the same problem with overheating and white smoke but now a burning smell. It's something new every time.i found this response o. Your website with another person who has this car and this happened to mine as well: ' hoses to my cooling system all busted one after another with in 5 day we could see the week spot in the hose after thy busted, had the thermostat changed , it also blow my head gasket' this is also happened and i barely drive it. It's 5 miles down the street where i work with a 45mph max speed limit. I have pictures and videos as well but can't attach it

I have a 2011 chevy aveo with 58,800 miles. It has a serious stalling issue and getting worse. My local chevy dealer service department had the car for over two days and can't get it to "throw a code" on the computer. It did stall for them before they got the computer on it. I have emailed gm about this issue and plan to file a complaint with ftc. I am going to have to give the car back to the bank and suffer financially as i am in no position to pay for 2 cars so this car can sit. It is unsafe to drive. It seems that gm is only willing to repair cars once someone as died or been injured by something that they should be responsible for from the beginning. The first 2 item they should be replacing are the ignition switch and fuel pump, but they won't.
The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that the key was unable to be removed from the ignition switch. So as i'm driving (in motion) whether it be 30 mph or 70 mph my car dies out. Does not shut off, but i do not have any acceleration. I have to immediately pull over because i cannot move. I spoke to mechanics and they are saying it is the throttle body. As i research this, there has been so many complaints regarding this against gm and nothing not one thing has been done. Do they not understand that as your driving 70 mph and then have no control of speed in the passing lane or regular lane that you can get killed my another car? if you go under chevrolet you can see complaints about this. I asked if this was under warranty and it is not.it is not part of the power train. Yet gm knows there is a defective part and they are just not willing to fix it. They will wait til someone dies first and then fix it. I am filing a complaint regarding the throttle for it is just not my car for i have researched how many cars this has happened to, and knowing that gm knows about this indicated on complaints to gm this needs to be fixed for safety reasons. If something was to happen while i was driving my grandchildren around or when my daughter drives the car i will never forgive gm.especially where they know about this part. Now i put this as of 11/1/15 but that is not the only time it's been ongoing since then.i am very worried to drive this car, yet it is very expensive to have this fix and it is not under a $2,000 warranty insurance i purchased when i bought this car.april 2014 is when i bought this used car and have had it towed 2x already and engine lights on 2x had to have repaired.so thinking there has to be recalls on this car and nothing is being shown.
My coolant reservoir has been emptied suddenly on 4 occasions. One one occasion, while driving on the highways, my car overheated, and was found to have no coolant. After filling it, letting the car cool, and driving 10 minutes down the road, it had overheated and was empty again. That time, and once before, it was the hose. Another time, the cap was damaged, and was allowing coolant to evaporate. The most recent time, there is a crack in the reservoir, allowing the coolant to leak. However, my overheating warning did not come on. My heat has also not been working, even if i warm my car up ahead of time in the cold weather.

I was driving on a backroad going about 30 mph. My engine shut off causing me to lose my power steering and power brakes. I was able to get the car into a parking lot and pull my emergency brake. I then shut off and restarted my car. It started fine. It is now at a dealership where they can find nothing wrong. Although it is still stalling on them as well.
My car has had multiple issue within the 8 months is have had it. My car has 68900 miles on it and is a 2011. My car was in the shop for a total of two months because, my breaks stopped working on the interstate, it was running hot, my acceleration ( pickup speed) will not work properly. My car is always drifting to the left when i do drive. My check oil light came on, took it to the dealership and had a full tank of oil. They told me again nothing was wrong. A large amount of liquid comes out my car after parking it, assuming it is from my a/c but its more then usual. My a/c does not get cold all the time, its pretty hot. My steering wheel has been shaking since i purchased it, when i go up hill my car wont go past 40 mph, then when it reaches to 60 mph it wont stop increasing, when i hit my break going down hill the steering wheel shakes, and the car too.the dealership keeps telling me nothing is wrong with my car.

The parts were replaced but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to dealer again and the contact was advised that the failure was caused by low cooling fluid. The failure was reported to the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 33,861. The current mileage was 33,890.
I bought by chevy aveo in 2013 with roughly 27,000 miles on it. I loved that car and it worked well for me until recently at 45,000 miles. While driving, 15-20 minutes into the drive, the car would lose power and fail to accelerate. I would put the pedal all the way to the ground and the spedometer would barely creep up. The first two times it did this it "snapped out" of it and drove the rest of the way with no problems. This last time i had some leaking radiator fluid which the dealer wrote off as a "loose radiator cap". When the cap was screwed back on it still stalled for myfather, and it wasn't from overheating. The dealer says they can't find anything wrong with my car. I currently have it at another mechanic for a second opinion. I am extremely disappointed with chevrolet. Will sell this car asap and never buy from chevy again!

The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet aveo. While driving 45 mph, the speedometer displayed incorrect information. In addition, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle jerked before accelerating and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics where it was diagnosed that radiator fluid contaminated the transmission. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator, transmission, and trans lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,000. Updated 07/12/16*lj

This aveo has only 7,552 miles and when accelerated to pull out it has no power.when you do get out in road it only goes 15-20 mpg even when acceleration is to the floor.i had to pull over to the side of road-turned it off and restarted then drove it about 2 miles and it did it again-very dangerous-unsafe-hope someone looks into this.
The car has lost power while driving on 3 occasions so far over the past 3 years. Each time this happened, i have been driving between 25-45 mph in a residential/suburban area. I have had to roll to a stop and pull over on a busy road. My gas nor breaks worked at all while this was happening. I turned my car off, then on, and it worked like normal again.
Last month will driving( highway, city street and parked)all my hoses to my cooling system all busted one after another with in 5 day we could see the week spot in the hose after thy busted, had the thermostat changed , it also blow my head gasket now i cant drive my car it has 74,756 miles i don't now the cause vin number is [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Driving down road and car starts shaking and if you do not press pedal to the floor, the car will go dead. If at red light, the rpm needle goes up and down. If you do not constantly press on gas, it will go dead. I have had to replace my headlights at least 5 times since i bought the car in 2012. I have a 2005 corolla and i have had to change my headlights maybe twice since 2005.i am also having other electrical issues inside. The "seat belt" light that is above clock goes on and off as well as my gear shift lights. With the gear shift lights, just hit it and they will come back on.all of these issues could not be found when i took to dealership under warranty. Now check engine light is on and i will be getting a new car soon. I highly recommend to not buy this car! there's a reason they stopped selling them.
The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet aveo. While driving approximately 45 mph, the engine overheated and caused the radiator holes to explode. The contact independently repaired the radiator holes. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.
The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that after having the spark plugs replaced, the engine begin to malfunction while driving 70 mph. The vehicle would not shift out of first gear and an egg smell entered the vehicle. The dealer repaired the heater blower but that did not remedy the defect. The failure mileage was 41,699. Updated 12/30/13
Takata recall as i was heading to work one morning the light i was waiting at turned green as i got ready to go my car shut off completely, but restarted. Ifound out my car was leaking oil on my head gaskets causing it to shut off. My sales rep managed to talk his mechanic to fix that. Now my car has a problem with the fuel injectors causing the take off not to be proper & draining my gas!!
After driving vehicle i parked it. Started vehicle, accelerated and engine stalled. Idled to parking lot and engine died. Started back up and eventually got it running. Took off from a stop light and stalled when apply gas, finally got it to drive at speed posted.
I have been trying to get this issue resolved for about a year to no avail.my 2011 chevy aveo 1.4l has a very bad vibration at idle that can be felt on the whole front end and through to the steering column.i have motor mounts replaced (they had broken), replaced spark plugs, and motor and transmission shifted to sit better.unfortunately, none of this has rectified the issue.i have been speaking with chevy's customer service department that has proven useless and dealerships stating that this is just what the car does.i'm concerned that since this vibration can break motor mounts it can obviously cause damage elsewhere.i now have a burning smell that can't seem to be located and none at chevy seems to be concerned.
I bought a chevy aveo back in feb 2014. Was on way home sometime in august and getting on to highway from ramp would not accelerate and running hot according to temp gauge. I got it towed to shop and called the next day to find they could not find nothing wrong!! so i picked up the car and about three weeks later on way home this time only on back roads doing 35, the car does same thing. What is it gonna take for chevy to fix this issue that i have seen numerous complaints about. I am not able to just go but another car!!!! wake up chevrolet!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been at the dealers repair shop like 10+ times for the same transmission problem. Today i was out on a quick trip to the store and when i changed gears from reverse (to get out of my drive way) then to drive the gear shifter became hard to move? and then the "hold" light came on. After that my car went on and off acceleration dragging, then on my way out of the parking lot of the store, i pushed to accelerate and then my car barely moved like slower than the cars regular cruise (like when you let the car move on its own in motion off the accelerator) it went slower than that. I am about up to my shoulders in frustration with it, now the hold light wont come off and i almost got in a car accident now it feels unsafe to drive.

For approximately the last year i have been having issues with this car being sluggish on and off and now it sporadically has no power, when you press on the gas, you loose power at times. Now it just dies whenever! i have had it to multiple shops including the chevy dealer and nobody knows what is wrong. What is it going to take? having it stall in traffic and having someone die? apparently this is an issue with many chevy aveos! i really think this needs to be looked into! would you want your wife, husband, son, daughter, mother or father driving a car that is this unreliable?

While driving at night, all of the dashboard lights went out making it impossible to see how fast i was traveling.
Vehicle lost all power & had to coast to the side of the road.took numerous times to try to start it again. Not happy with this.
Vehicle looses power while at cruising speed with no warning. Has happened several times over the past 24 months. Dealer can not duplicate issue. This is a random occurrence and hard to duplicate. Acks like it is vapor locking. I suspect a defect in the fuel injection system. Fortunately i have not been in high speed traffic when this happens.

At 60k miles the speedometer stopped working. Vehicle runs fine but not having a speedometer is a safety hazard. There are only a few transmissions that have this problem where the speedometer in operated by a plastic gear inside the transmission. I had to replace the transmissioncost me 1600 dollars and the 9 months later that gear let go also. Again i had to change the transmission. The car will not pass inspection without the speedometer working. This is a faulty design and should have been recalled.

My daughter brought a 2011 chevy aveo in wisconsin.when she came back home there were several occasions that i used her car. The first time i drove her car i drove it to work. While i was driving at 55 mph the car jerked very hard to the left. I had to really hold the steering wheel harder than usual to gain control of the car. I called my daughter and asked her about the car jerking towards incoming traffic. My daughter stated thatthe car did jerk sometimes. I told my daughter to go get the car checked out. I told her to have them check the jerking out and why the car was wearing out tires so fast. My daughter had the car checked and she was told her car couldn't be aligned. My mom, my other daughter, her father, step father and myself drove the car at different times and it jerked while each of us drove it. Unfortunately, my daughter lost her life in an accident in that same chevy aveo in 2014. I was told to come to the hospital because there was an accident on august 1 at 11:45. When i arrived at the hospital the coroner and the state trooper met me in a waiting room. They explained to me that my daughter passed away in the car accident she was involved in. She had crossed over the median line and on the shoulder. She tried to correct herself and get back in her lane and was hit on the driver side and killed instantly. When they told me that i knew that the car had jerked on her again and this time cost my daughter her life. Yes, it was foggy and damp from the rain that evening. The police stated that a tire was slick and the road was wet. I was very glad that she was talking to her friend that night. Her friend was the one who called the police when she heard my daughter scream an the line went dead. I just want someone to know that something was wrong with that car. I looked online and found people who had the same problem with their aveo's as well. ...updated 02/11/15
The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet aveo. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle shook violently and caused the rear passenger tire to blow out. In addition, the tire pressure warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the sensor needed to be replaced and the transmission mount needed to be repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,350.
I was pulling s onto hwy 515 from hwy 382 in ellijay, ga when a car hit my drivers side passenger door. On impact, my seat belt buckle broke releasing me into the vehicle causing multiple injuries. I was taken to piedmont mountainside hospital. I had rib fractures; chest wall contusion; severe cervical and lumbar spine sprain;severe whiplash; and left hand laceration. I was prescribed narcotic pain med; muscle spasm med; med for inflammation. Next went to kaiser urgent care for severe back spasms. Muscle spasm med changed to stronger med; again next week changed again. Mom had to come from tn; to stay with me so my husband could work; i couldn't get up and down myself & had to sleep in recliner downstairs in my living room for 3 months. When swelling finally reduced mri showed no spinal fluid from c5-c7 discs; surgery scheduled for may 28 for fusion. May 1, my husband was fired from his job; separation notice stated 'released without prejudice' we no longer had medical insurance; but got it from marriott at cost immediately and had disc fusion on may 28; still in physical therapy. On medical leave of absence mar 3-july 28; my position at marriott had to be filled i had to await another position, apply for unemployment. Gm would not discuss this defective seat belt issue because the car was totaled and i no longer had it. I tried contacting an attorney, but they did not take my injuries seriously and even though i gave them the exact location of the vehicle and they agreed to do an investigation they did nothing and my car was sold from co-part. My main concern is that anyone who still has a chevrolet aveo know that this happened. Allstate and i have pictures of the damaged seat belt. I have finally recovered enough to go back to work. My greatest fear is that another seat belt buckle in another chevrolet aveo could break and someone could get killed.

Right front brake hose blew out leaving me with no brake while driving on a city street. Unable to stop had no brakes had to swerve in order to keep from hitting car in front of me. Mechanic said in his 35 years as a mechanic never seen this happen and to make a report as this could kill someone.
Nothing but problems with the braking system. It has been in twice to be serviced. We stated that the brakes didn't function correctly and the pedal was spongy and would go all the way to the floor without stopping the vehicle. The 1st time they changed the master cylinder. The second time she went in with same complaint and they looked at it and told her the brakes were working fine. This finally resulted in an accident where she went through an intersection/red light and hit another car, and her air bags deployed.
The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph the brake warning lamps illuminated and the brakes failed to engage. The contact mentioned that she was able to stop the vehicle by engaging the emergency brake. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 30,600 and the current mileage was 30,660.
When turning vehicle all the way to left or right brakes fail to operate correctly.the brake pedal becomes hard and gives you less than 10% braking function.is not intermittent, it happens every time vehicle is turned completely to left or right and the brake is applied.
The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet aveo. While the vehicle was parked, the contact released the emergency brake and shifted into first gear. The rear brakes completely failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear brake pads separated from the brake shoes. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000.

Exterior driver door lock fell out of position and into door panel.automatic door lock would hold door as 'locked' could not open door inside or out screw holding the locking mechanism in position was nylon and failed.driver could not exit automobile !!! if in an accident or fire driver might dieor passenger(s) if passenger door failed. Had i not had tools and knowledgewe would have had to call emergency services (911) for extracation as the driver was trapped. Vehicle was stopped at shopping center and when driverentered and shut door, could not open door again as lock fell 'out of place'
The car began to shake as i was driving down the highway. Then the wheels started to pull and the car began going from the left side of the highway to the right side of the highway. Soon after the car began to spin on the highway and i attempted to pull to the side of the road and collided with a wall.
I was driving and my whole right rear wheel came off while i was driving on the road out of nowhere.i slid about 30 yards down the street and hit an object that damaged my front end. Thought it was my tire but come to find out it was literally my whole wheel and it ripped out my back bumper. My tire is in good shape but my whole wheel bearing came off. The drum lug nut is still intact.i believe this is a manufacturer defect that needs to be brought to your attention. My life was jeopardized and i'm so glad i wasn't on the freeway because if so i may not be here today. I strongly suggest some action needs to partake in this situation and matter!
The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph the tie rod failed, causing the front passenger's side tire to become separated from the vehicle. The contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another vehicle. The contact did not sustain any injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated that the tie rod failed and became detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.
Identified online there was a prior issue documented for 2011 chevrolet aveo with front end suspension. I am being told by dealer this is a wheel bearing issue there were 2 numbers assigned that begin with an " n and t".i becameafraid to drive the vehicle because of the information i located and the noise it made when in motion.my car has been serviced regularly bu chevrolet and this is really a major concern to learn of this problem.i purchased the vehicle in 2012 and strangely this automobile is not no longer a product of chevrolet. I have never been advised of a safety recall and do not want to be a fatality and when there were opportunities to correct the situation by chevrolet.i do value my life as well as others who are not being notified of defects in automobiles they purchase.we deserve better customer service and support.

Interior door handle on drivers side snapped and broke.

After putting tge car in park i couldn't get the key out of the ignition. It's stuck in the accessory position and won't budge. I looked it up a lot of people have this sams problem with the aveo.
The key is stuck in the ignition.
The key is stuck in the ignition. Engine will not shut off.transmission shifts normally.

I have had several instances of lacking power and once i even lost total power and had to coast onto a side road. I can hit the accelerator and it slowly accelerates to speed. It generally tends to occur at a speed of about 50-60 mph and flares up when the temp is about 60-65 degrees f outside. The safety issue is that it has happened while pulling out into traffic as well and we were almost hit by an oncoming car. Now my check engine light finally came on after under 2 years of this issue and it says catalyst system efficiency below threshold. Bank 1 (code # p0420). There are only just over 41,000 miles on my car now.
Vehicle lost all power & had to coast to the side of the road.took numerous times to try to start it again. Not happy with this.
The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that while driving with the cruise control set at 70mph the contact fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed into six cable poles. The driver side frontal air bag deployed. The vehicle continued to accelerate at 70mph unto oncoming traffic and the contact was able to depress the brake pedal to cancel the cruise control. The contact believes that the cruise control cable should have disengaged at first impact. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. No injuries were reported.the vehicle was destroyed. The failure and current mileage was 40,000. Updated 10/10/12 updated 10/15/2012

(during this visit a scratch and a dent occurred while they had vehicle)3/29/13- looked at dent and said they did it to bring car in on 4/2/13 for repairs i also advised that the car is still doing the same thing pulling.4/2/13- car back fixed paint and two or three people test drove car and yes the car is pulling but that's just because the car is small and it's just how the aveo drives.bottom line i am being told is even though several attempts to repair a chevy aveo is just a vehicle that pulls against itself while driving down the freeway.
The car began to shake as i was driving down the highway. Then the wheels started to pull and the car began going from the left side of the highway to the right side of the highway. Soon after the car began to spin on the highway and i attempted to pull to the side of the road and collided with a wall.
