Coming home from work, dash lights got brighter, airbag light stayed on, car tried to stall around a corner when brakes were pressed.took in for service, had alternator and battery replaced, also serpentine belt.this was 4 months ago.problem was not fixed, just made it less severe. Since that time, when you hit the brakes the headlights dim.the dash clock comes on and off randomly, the airbag light is on all the time. When it is cold (the car, not the weather), the transmission has a hard time shifting. As of this morning it will not start. Am going to have it looked at tomorrow morning, but do not have high hopes. Bought car in 2006 with 8,000 miles on it, have had shift lock assembly replaced, wheel bearings, battery, alternator, serpentine belt. Probably other things i cannot think of right now. The electrical problem worries me though.
I was traveling north under an overpass when my light turned green and a car coming off the hwy heading west ran the stop light. I hit the brakes when i saw her but it was too late and she was going too fast. The front bumper on the 2005 chevrolet aveo i was driving hit her car on the drivers side aft quarter panel. The impact spun her car all the way aroundand i just rolled to a stop. I got out to go talk to her and she drove off. I got back in my car and followed her. When i caught up to her, she was a nervous wreck. I talked her into following me across the street to a circle k gas station and waited for police. She was driving a 2005, i think, lexus 330, again i think. The bad thing was neither one of our cars airbags deployed. Her car might be correct but all my damage was straight in the front on the bumper and the hood has some minor damage but the front bumper is trashed. I was wearing my seatbelt but i did injure my back and my stomach area. I have not been to the doctor yet as i am waiting to make sure i'm not just sore from the impact.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo.the contact stated that the transmission locked up on his vehicle.while making a right turn, he stated that the front half of his vehicle stopped, but the rear continued to move.the speed was unknown.the vehicle rolled over three times down an embankment and was destroyed.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on three occasions and they stated that the computer control transmission system failed.the vehicle downshifts and locks into gear by itself.the failure began after a recall was issued by the manufacturer.the air bags failed to deploy.the contact was the only occupant in the vehicle and was not injured.a police report was filed.gm does not accept responsibility for the failure.the failure mileage was 98,000.
Air bag fault indicator has come on and remains on. Mechanic can not diagnose to repair.airbags are critical to the safety of persons in this small lightweight vehicle. Normal driving, commuter.
My daughter came to a stop in traffic at a red light50 feetfrom the car in front of her and was hit in the rear traveling at about 40 miles per hourknockingher in to the car in front of her the air bags did not deploy and gm's investigation says she wasn't hit hard enough. She was sent to the hospital via ems with back and neck injury's this whole accident was caught on the car wash video cam .
At about 9:30 pm on the 18th of may 2007, my car was struck head on at an intersection in el centro, ca.my car was sitting still at the time, the vehicle that struck me was going about 60 mph.my radiator and engine were both hit hard enough to destroy them, my air bags never deployed.
On september 16, 2007, my daughter was struck by a drunk driver.she was driving a 2005 chevrolet aveo.she lost control and struck a concrete retaining wall virtually head on at 55 mph.the insurance company totaled the car, due to heavy front end damage.her air bags did not deploy, although the vehicle was equipped with them.i called chevrolet on sept 21, 2007, to request that they look into what happened to the safety features on the car, and why they did not work.in return, the report is bogged down in red tape, an inspector called us last week (oct. 11, 2007), and said he would be looking at the car.so far, we cannot locate a report and chevy is denying the inspection took place.i am sure they are stalling for time so the car is sold for salvage.this was a serious problem, and should have been looked into immediately, which is all that asked of them.in return, nothing but stalling tactics have occurred.chevrolet refuses to give phone numbers for customer assistance, and keeps referring me back to the department i cannot get information from.
Traveling on 695 driving on an overpass from work, 05 aveo pulled to the right. When i attempted to correct the direction of the car by turning slightly left, the car could not be corrected with steering or brake, it went left across the other lane and hit a jersey wall. Car rolled over. Speed was about 50-55. I was lucky i had my seat belt on and was not hit by another auto or truck. Whether was clear but windy. Time was 1:30pm.
Enclosed are some picture of a recent accident were my son almost lost his life in a frontal collision and the airbags did not deploy, as far as he can recall and the impact injuries.
While traveling to a doctor appointment at approximately 2:30 pm on 11/18/09, i hydroplaned on the wet interstate i 40 east, near exit 37, slid sideways at a 90' angle to outside lane of i 40 east, attempted to countersteer into the slide, which caused my vehicle to spin 360' and strike the concrete lane divider head on at 40 or 45 mph. The vehicles air bags did not deploy, and i probably sustained a greater chest contusion to my sternum due to seat belt restraint impact to my chest. This has also caused an increase to back pain due to a prior problem of 3 fused vertebrae in my upper spine and probably a fractured sternum, but x-rays are not conclusive. I can not help but think had the airbags deployed i would not have sustained such a severe blow to my chest and would not have been injured nearly as bad as i have been. I believe the air bag system malfunctioned as the car was a total loss, and the impact knocked me unconscious for about 15 seconds. I remember the back wheels of the vehicleflying up into the air, and the rear end bouncing back to the ground.
I was traveling approximately 35 to 40 mph on a straight road.the vehicle in front of me stopped about 75 feet ahead of me. I pressed on the brake pedal to stop but there was no pressure and it went to the floor.due to having no brakes, i hit the back of the other car.the airbag failed to deploy and i hit my head on the steering wheel.when i reversed the car and pressed on the brakes again they worked.the front end of the car was smashed in damaging the headlights, radiator, hood, bumper, and unknown other parts at this time.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo.the contact stated that the front passenger side air bag light remains illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, but they were unable to locate the exact cause of the failure.the dealer replaced the air bag sensor and the wiring under the front passenger seat, but this did not correct the failure.the current mileage was 15,239 and failure mileage was 6,753.
Dt:the contact stated while in a front end collision the airbags did not deploy.the contactwas driving 50 mph and went under a truck.most of the impact was to the hood, roof top, and windshield.the steering wheel was completely damaged.there was no substantial damage to the bumper.the vehicle was towed to the contact'sresidence , and has not been inspected or repaired.a police reportwas taken.the contact sustainedinjuries.thenose was fractured, left eyeball went out of orbit, and thecheek bone was crushed.he had to have reconstructive surgery to his face.the manufacturer stated all three sensors have to be hit simultaneously for the airbags to deploy. Updated 01/25/06.
I was passing through an intersection in a 2005 chevy aveo, i was hit head on by a ford ranger pickup truck, both vehicles were totaled. The other drivers airbag had gone off but mine did not. As a result he was fine, but i was knocked temporarily unconscious. I spent the rest of that day in a hospital getting x-rays done and was laid up in bed for the next week on pain killers and muscle relaxers. The pain (primarily in my neck, upper back, and my head which hit the steering wheel) has still yet to go away now almost 3 weeks later.

The consumer was thrown from the drivers seat, even though he had on his seat belt, through the passenger door window, breaking it in the process, the door did not open. The consumer was seen being ejected out the window. The consumer then hit another vehicle from the rear. The consumer further stated even though the car was severely damaged the air bags did not deploy. Enclosed are some picture of a recent accident were my son almost lost his life in a frontal collision and the airbags were not deployed, as far as he can recall and the impact injuries.
When i went out to start the vehicle i had no dash board lights.every other light system worked but i could not see the speedometer or the tachometer.all the fuses were intact.i then bought new bulbs for the entire gage cluster and they still are not functioning.i have looked up this problem on multiple forums and this is a very common issue without a solution other than "rigging" this system!this is unacceptable practice to allow this to go on without some sort of recall or replacement part available!
The key cylinder on my daughter's 2005 aveo on the passenger side just fell in the door without even pushing in the key.now she cannot even unlock or lock her car from the passenger side. I called the dealership and our extended warranty that we paid so much for expired in may of 2010.i told them that it is really a defect in the car but they want to charge me $115 per hour to fix it.i see that this happens to alot of the aveo cars.i think gm should pay for the fix.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo.the contact stated that the headlight lights, the parking lights, and daytime lights failed to illuminate.the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnose that the main fuse box and wiring harness needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 75,000. Updated 9/18/14 updated 02/05/2015
Running lights don't work half the time, clock doesn't stay on, mileage od scrambles, front end always had a shimmy.
My chevy aveo 2005 has a short within the fuse block, this has caused all things in the inside of the car no to light up. Still searching for a way to fix this problem.
I have had this car for awhile it had 13teen miles on it when i got it and the censor light do not go off i had them replace and it still do the same thing and the brake switch get stuck often and i do not know if my brakes lights are on most of the time when i stop and with the engine light not going off it very hard to register my carthis is not right and has cause alot of hard ship for me and i have to drive my car for my job 100% of the time what can be done and i see other have had the same problem with this car too.
Hi there , i have a 2005 chevy aveo , hatchback, and had to take it to a dealer in bellair ohio called autochoice.the reason i took it to the dealer, is because, i was driving, and my entire dashboard lights went out as well as the shifter lights!they had temporarily fixed the problem at 180.00 dollars later, and currently, they seemed to rig it someway with black electrical tape.originally i smelled a lot of smoke and seen that it was burnt where the additional fuse box was located, bellowing from the hood when the incident did occur!in the past 6 months, my rear, right and left parking lights, as well as my license plate light will no longer work!i tried contacting chevrolet recently, and they said i had to pay a 110.00 dollar check to see what was wrong with the car to see if it was the dealer's fault, in which it was!i asked chevrolet why there was never a recall, and he muttered, because we really haven't had too many problems.i was like yeah right, i googled the problems and found several thousand of 2004,2005, and 2006 chevy aveo's with the same issue!please help.maybe chevrolet will listen to you, because they really don't care about the consumer!
First my back running light went out, next front running light went out, both out now. No fuses burnt out. Splicer is burnt and needs to be replaced. Seems to be an ongoing incident.
The dashboard lights, gear selector lights, and right rear tail lights, all went out at the same time. I have replaced all of the bulbs possible and all of the fuses are normal and functional. This is a big safety issue because i can't tell my speed engine temp or fuel level while driving at night and i no longer have right taillights making my vehicle harder to see at night.
My 05 aveo,is included in the gm recall#a140093/nhtsa recall#14v261(headlamp switch & drl). I have been experiencing issues with all of my external lights (my gauge cluster and shifter lights have been out). I was replacing every external bulb every few weeks to keep the lights on. That is not working. I am down to one headlight (driver side) working ' as far as running lights go. I have no taillights (brakelights work). I commute approx. 40miles each direction for work-all freeway. I made an appt w/chevy,took the day off work so the car could be there all day.as i arrived to my appt the service writer told me there is not a remedy from gm yet so i will need to cover the cost. Eventually we went into the building to complete my write up, at that point i was told they were backed up on recalls so they may not get to my vehicle despite the appt. I reiterated the issue,he said okay, told me he would be in contact with me. At 3:30 he called, told me they hadn't had a chance to look at my vehicle but would get to it tomorrow. I took another day off work & left the car with them.next day,i called at 11am & i'm told they have yet to touch my vehicle & there are about 20 cars in front of me so they won't get to it today either.i could not leave the car another day, i told him i would pick it up. I immediately called gm explained the situation, their response was 'what do you want us to do about it'. I told them the car was unsafe and illegal to drive in this condition i needed it fixed. They told me they would contact another dealership and have them contact me. About 20mins later the dealership contacted me, gave me the same run around as the first dealership.this recall is 7months old, it took gm 10yrs to acknowledge it. This is unacceptable, i bought this car in good faith the basic functionality of the car would work and it does not and gm is not correcting the issue.
The dashboard lights we intermittently working/not working around may. Turns to be a big problem when i drive at night since i cannot see the speed. Also, a couple of weeks ago the lights on the pilot's side stopped working. Again, big problem because turns to be dangerous to drive at night. Luckily i do most of my driving during the day, but with the winter approaching, i'm taking my car to the garage for a fix. As you can see on the link attached, this is a common issue with this kind of cars: http://chevroletforum.com/forum/sonic-aveo-new-11/dash-lights-aveo-20707/.
The instrument panel and shifter lights along with the dimmer for the clock, radio, and other interior lights stopped functioning yesterday. There have been several times the lights blinked off and back on but they are completely out now. After researching several forums (ex. Http://chevroletforum.com/forum/sonic-aveo-new-11/dash-lights-aveo-20707/), i found other people who had this same issue. It seems there is a defective part in the engine fuse panel that causes this issue. This could be a major concern to many drivers because you cannot see any of the dash instruments including the speedometer, gas gauge, tachometer, and temperature gauge.
First, the interior dash lights stopped working on my 2005 chevy aveo. Then on my way back to my college the tail lights and brake lights stopped working. I had not known this until i was almost rear ended by an 18-wheeler who could not tell that i was hitting my brakes! finally after bringing the vehicle to the dealership it was determined that the gray and white splicer at the top right-hand corner of my fuse box, which connects the wires in the fuse box to the engine wire harness, was so badly burnt from the wires shorting each out spontaneously. They want to charge me $1,290.00 to replace the part, and that is not including labor fees! in hope to find a cheaper alternative, i called every junkyard and u-pull it location andnone of them had the connector because they had already been pulled out and sold since this is such a common problem. As a college student who is paying her own way, i cannot afford to take care of a problem like this, especially when it is a manufacture defect! i heavily rely on my car to get to school and work, and it is terrible to be in such a predicament. I understand this is a very common problem with the same year make and model vehicle. It is absurd that we put our trust into 2005 chevy aveos only to have our lives put in danger when using them and then have to pay such a large amount of money to fix an issue that the manufacture is ultimately responsible for. There should be a recall for these issues! especially since so many people have been putting complaints in about it as early as 2007, only two years after the car was made! how many lives have to be put into danger before the right party is held responsible for this?! something has to be done about this because it's not fair!
Within the first year of buying my aveo i had to replace headlights 10x i kept taking the car in to get checked and they said it was fine, then one time they said just needed a better fuse (the changed it) worked for about a year then signal lights kept going out, then tail lights. Thought there was short took car in few times they said nothing wrong. Tired of taking the car in, i am a very busy person. So we have been dealing with this problem for about 6-7 years now the dash lights have completely gone out now and won't come back on, leaving us with 1 headlight, 1 tail light and only occasional rear signals.and always smells light wires burning.in sept of 2014 we received a letter recalling the car for lighting problems and still nothing about getting fixed!!!this is only one of many complaints for this car.
2005 chevy aveo hatchback, electrical system...i have taken my car to the mechanic 3 times and he can not find out why my brake lights blows the fuse. I go through a box of fuses a week. Driving down the highway yesterday, my speedometer, went to "0" and odometer quit working. The dash clock only works when it wants to. Now this morning the engine light is on. I have replaced sensors that cost a fortune...now what ?
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that the instrument panel, interior and exterior lights were all inoperable. Also, the contact mentioned that the right signal light failed to function while the head lights were on. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The contact was made aware of a notification for recall nhtsa campaign number 14v261000 (exterior lighting). However, the vin was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
I have a 2005 chevrolet aveo that has given me numerous problems.a little over a year ago i noticed i could not shift my car out of park i have touse a screwdriver to shift my gear out of park. Soon after i noticed my brake lights stopped working.i bought a box offuses but this only fixed the problem for less than a week.every time i put a new fuse in the brake lights went back out in a day or two.one day while i was on the freeway my car just suddenly stopped without any warning. I took the car to the dealer it was still under the power train warranty.it was a electrical problem causing all of these problems and cost over $2,000 to fix.a year later the problems started again i can't move my gear without using a screw driver, my brake lights and headlights are out.if i slam the hood of my car one headlight will come on which shows that something is wrong with the wiring.the engine light and hold mode light flashes constantly.i feel this car is dangerous because there are no brake lights which can easily cause an accident.i was pulled over by the police because of no brake lights a $125 ticket.i am in a bind because i really need my car for work but i do not have $2,000 (no longer under warranty) to fix this car only to have the same problem happen again months from now.also, i have noticed a strong gas smell from the car that has me concerned.i have read so many internet post from other people complaining about the same problems.this car seriously need to be recalled because it is endangering people lives.
Many suggestions to fix this issue were to replace the part, but the part is not available through the dealer or any parts store. Another way to fix the issue was to take out the part and join all of the wires together through soldering or a connector but i think this should be something that chevrolet fixes.
Several customers have had this same problem with defective wiring inside of the fuse box in which the splice pack overheats and causes wires to melt. This causes the electrical systems to malfunction, brake lights to go out, turn signals to stop working, dash safety indicators to flicker on and off, the radio to stop working, and headlights to stop working. This is an ongoing problem that chevy does not want to address but it has caused a car to stall in the middle of the highway and affects safety of the vehicle passengers, the driver, and the passengers in other vehicles. I feel that the 2004-2008 chevy aveo is a prime candidate for a recall because of safety issues.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that the fuse burned and caused all of the windows to malfunction. The contact replaced the fuse, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was unavailable. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.
I have a 2005 chevy aveo sedan that i droveapprox. 5 miles and parked in my lot at approx. 11:30 am. When i returned at approx. 3:30 pm the inside of the vehicle had burned under the center of the dash and melted the dash, clock, radio, center console and wiring. In addition it burnt the carpet by the gas pedal, air vents were melted down into the dash, windows were all smoked and the inside has an odor of melted plastic.i feel that if the windows were not all rolled up the complete car would have burned.i feel this is at the fault of the drl module which there is a recall out for.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that the headlights failed. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that the wiring harness connectors shorted due to overheating, which burned and melted the wires. The dealer advised that nhtsa campaign number: 14v261000 (exterior lighting) would only repair the drl module and it would not replace any additional failure caused by the recall. The contact also stated that the engine valve cover gasket was defective and caused the engine fluid to leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
Dash lights do not work on chevy aveo ls and we cannot see our instruments because there are no lights at night and how fast we are going. We feel very unsafe for night driving.
I traded in a 2004 p.t.cruiser to get a 2005 chevy aveo at the time it had 21000 miles when i got it. My warranty was good till 36000. I had lots of issues with a noise that still to this day has not been corrected even after three attempts under my car by the chevy service dept. I then had a computer recall or something that had to be replaced i also had a gas cap that malfunctioned and a clock that had to be replaced. Those are the non life threatening issues. I had an incident inside of the original warranty where the car threw parts out of the engine. It was the serpentine belt and the bracket that was metal that it was mounted on broke out of the engine as i was driving it. I am currently at 55000 and i have the power train on it. In the last month i have had the car in my possession 1 week the rest it's been in the service dept. A month ago the plastic and yes that's plastic housing for the thermostat blew apart on the interstate causing us to have to dial 911 to get help because we were trapped. Two weeks ago it spit out the timing belt and the valves got bent and the valve cover was damaged. We don't know what particles ended up in the engine for now. I have contacted chevrolet on all these issues and i asked them before my warranty went out and right after the first incident to give me back the money for the car. They called me today and said i didn't have a case because the warranty was out i reminded them i had been asking since before at the first incident with the serpentine and bracket and they said sorry the warranty is out. I reminded them i have pictures of those parts and can prove it but that still wasn't good enough! i spoke to hannah a district specialist today and that is who lied to herself and said these occurrences were after the warranty. I have proof can you please help before my family dies and then we have dependents who will own the very company the gov't is trying to bail out. I need you to intervene before i go to court over this.
Multi fault lighting problem(dash, shifter and rh rear running lights)aveo lt 2005127500 miles.
My engine light stay on after i replace censor and now my brakes lights are all out my clock don't work right my low beams are going on anoff and after replacing bulbs still do the same thing i just don't wont this care to catch on fire on me i have had it sense 2005 andbought it bran new and these problems are of very serious concern to me this car has serious problems and i have been reading about them on the internet why no recall yet on these cars.
2005 chevrolet aveo.consumer writes in regards to hot ignition key issues.the dealer informed the consumer, he would have to pay out of pocket, to correct the problem.
I have a 2005 aveo ls just purchased 21 days ago.the instrument panel lights no longer work.the intermittently would come on and go off, but now do not work at all.took to a mechanic and he initially replaced the dimmer switch because it was burnt.however, that did not solve the problem. After further investigation, he says that the purple wire leading to the splice pack has burned.in trying to obtain the part, chevrolet will only sell the entire splice pack; to the tune of $5,100!!! after researching online, i have found hundreds of people with the exact same problem. No there hasn't been a fire yet!
In addition to the daytime headlights randomly shutting off, the clock in the center of the dashboard will disappear until i turn on the headlights then it reappears. ~ just before the vehicle stalls just after starting in the morning here in the fla. Sun, all the gauges go up then back down. ~ this 2005 chevrolet aveo lt hatchback, is having more and more electrical problems but the dealer, rosner chevrolet, refuses to fix the problem without a charge, since the vehicle is not a fire hazard or on a recall list. ~ i feel as though gm and the dealer, are hiding serious electrical issues from the buyereither due the cost of repairing the problem or due to some of the manufacturing being done in south korea. Or until people start dying from these problems. ( or until we start getting lawyers ).

2005 chevy aveo quit on a busy highway. Chevrolet dealer fix the problem; it was the timing belt. Engine light was on when i picked it up from the dealership, spoke to one of the reps and i was told it was nothing and that the engine light will go out soon.well it did along with the panel lights and flashing radio lightabout six months later.i replaced the fuses and ask the mechanics at express lube to check my fuses etc...of course they couldn't find anything and was offering me a chance for their mechanic to look at it for x amount of dollars...(too much cash).so i drove the car and finally the dash lights came back on for 3 to 4 days during january 2011.by mid march, my engine light came on again.i drove my car with no problem.on sunday, april 10, my car did a jerk when i put it in reverse; today, april 12, i left my head lights on and tried to charge my dead car with battery cables.as i turned the switch, a burnt wire smell had aroused in mid air and i thought it was something else.next, smoke begin to blow out from my cd player.my son, his friend and other teachers were around my car at this time.i am thankful that the car did not catch a fire.

The contact inspected the fuse and discovered that the wiring connectors were burned. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that there were no recalls on the vehicle. No further assistance was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 101,263.
Interior dash and console lights in-operative as well as the right tail light. Jesus christ, after seeing all of the people complaining about this our beloved no good for nothing governmental agencies should make gm responsible for the cost of repair for this obvious manufacturers or engineering defect. Or at least send out detailed instructions to the owners on how to fix this problem so they can take it to their mechanic of choice to get it fixed. The dealers obviously don't want to do anything about it. And they charge too much any how. Sincerely, george s.

Multiple problems, started with daytime lights going out, clock going out and coming on with correct time, dealer replaced clock and said daytime lights related and should be fixed, it was not.next all the instrument panel lights went out, repaired by dealer again at my costs.next the tail lights and brake lights went out.each time it was the wiring in the fuse box under the hood.all repaired at my expense.the dealer acted like they had no idea of the multitude of electrical problems with the aveo but i think they've known, just read some of the blogs-this is a very common problem.it's frightening to drive this car just waiting for a fire.from may 2013 to present i continue to have these problems.the daytime lights and now the clock again going out.the whole fuse box needs replaced as far as i'm concerned but the dealership keeps giving me the runaround--- no more chevys or gm for me.
2005 chevy aveo hatchback/all electrical. Electrical windows will roll down and then completely stopped working. Car has never been in an accident and has never had any damage. Bought car brand new.
I lost all interior dash lights in my 2005 chevy aveo.it was finally determined that there was a short in the power distribution box. They ended up rewiring it from another location. "rewired ckt 309 from splice to sp103".
Something under the dash burned out spewing white smoke into the passenger compartment of the car. Since that time aveos. Wondering if gm daewoo may have been using multiple substandard electrical components, the ignition keys are always hot after driving. Is there any potential for the ignitions going out/shorting out on these vehicles? would hate to park my car in the garage and cause my house to burn down.
Was driving to work and went through a drive through for coffee. Noticed that while idle, my car started to over heat. Continued on to work approx 1 mile down the road. When i got there i opened the hood and found that a hose was no longer connected to the thermostat housing. Then i noticed that the plastic housing itself was cracked in half and hanging off the car. It cost me about $80 for a replacement metal part which i had installed by a friend. This happened during the summer 2010; car had approx 51,000 miles. It is now december 2010, and car has approx 56,00 miles. My check engine light is on and i brought the car to a car part store to have them check the code. Apparently now i have to replace the oxygen sensor, which costs about $150.00 + labor. I bought this car used in 2007 and still have about 2 years left to pay on it. The warranty is no longer good.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that the hazard lights, the tail lights, the marker lights and the instrument panel lights failed. The vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v261000 (exterior lighting) however, the failures persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the s101 splice box burned out and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Car type: 2005 chevy aveo problems i have had with this car; 1. Oxygen sensor needed replacement by 41,xxx miles2. At 82,xxx mi. Wiring problems in fuse box wires came loose (possibly a fire hazard) burnt the wiring harness. (char marks on the wiring harness) caused the interior (instrument cluster panel) and exterior lights (daytime running lights)(yellow lowbeams that control turn signal)to turn off while driving the vehicle during the night time. Fix cost me $125.00 plus tax 8.25% this isn't the first time i've heard of this happening in fact its on many online forums as happening to several other people.3. At 92,xxx miles. Thermostat housing cracked in the center where the thermostat is located at (thermostat housing is plastic)very cheaply made. No parts houses carry this item. Its a gm part. Got stranded 44 miles from home and had to get a tow truck to bring car home. Cost; $115.00 + tax corrections made to vehicle;1. Purchased a new oxygen sensor for about $120.002. Taken electrical problem to a shop and had the shop fix it for 125.00 +tax3. Problem still pending. Parts not available at part houses i.e. Autozoneo'reileys a-line, advanced auto, etc....i believe parts houses do not wish to carry these parts.part is too cheaply made for them to carry i believe the part should have been made out of metal.(steel, aluminum. Etc....)property damage: damage to wiring harness in vehicle chevy aveofire: burnt wiring harness in vehicle, wires had to be soldered from a separate locality in engine compartment.
1. Multiple times, my driver side door lock has completely fallen into the door. I have probably had this issue "repaired" five to six times, by both the chevrolet dealer where i bought the car, as well as my own mechanic. 2. Things that were wrong when we first brought the car to the dealer for repairs in early april 2014. This is the list we gave them, modified for space:*clocka couple years ago, the clock in my car stopped working. Often, the clock would read 1:00 when i turned the car on, no matter what time it was. Sometimes, it would randomly display another time. Eventually, it just stopped turning on altogether. *cd playerthree times, the radio and/or cd player have turned on and off by themselves. This has not happened recently.the cd player sometimes works just fine. Other times, it does not. When it does not work, it does one of two things. It will either spin and spin and spin and then spit the cd out, or, more often, it will read ?error 7.?i do not know if the latter is connected to the other issues described here, but the former (the turning on and off) probably is.daytime running lightsthe daytime running lights no longer work. My regular mechanic tried replacing the bulbs, but new bulbs did not solve the problem. I must manually turn the lights on.reverse lightssometimes the reverse lights come on when i put the car in reverse. Sometimes, they do not turn on when i put the car in reverse.interior lights/gaugesabout 10 days ago, all the interior lights and gauge lights stopped turning on, even when i manually turn the headlights on. The car interior is completely dark.fog lightsi believe these might not be working either. Interior dome lightthe interior dome light burned out. My regular mechanic replaced the bulb, and that fixed the problem.right tail lightthe right tail light is out.
I was driving home from picking my kids up from school when my all my gauges stopped working. Then my brake lights and tail lights stopped working and then my car died while i was turning left across a two lane highway. My wife and 3 kids were nearly t boned by a semi. Two days prior i had to have the ignition replaced. I have seen hundreds of complaints about the same problem. I think gm should have a recall before somebody is killed over their faulty wiring.
Automobile tail lights, front parking lights, instrument panel illumination lights, and gear shift illumination lights went out at the same time.
Tacada recalli bought my car had 121000 miles all a sudden i have no right tail light no dash lights an no passengers front orange light ther is no power going to fuse box under hood i called the dealership they stated my vin had been fixed for that recal and it has not
Gm must not know thisthis has to do with the electrical wire harness inside of the engine block for the lights. For some reason the power is over writing the fuses and not blowing and causing small engine fires that could get out of control. I caught mine in enough time and put it out. A guy has to do with the right side and the left side in the fuse box being two separate entities of wires which is 7 + 7 equals 14 to control two different sizes. I was just wondering why and gm needs to know what's the sense of having a fuse box if the wires are going to override the fuse. And possibly catch fire or will catch fire it just a matter of an accident waiting to happen. I've been on youtube and found out this is a common thing to happen for chevy aveo will there be a 2004 through 2008. I'm letting you know about this concern because i do not want anybody to die from a car fire because gm.maybe not know about this that it's a big issue an accident waiting to happen. Sincerely [xxx] if someone needs to reach me my phone number is +[xxx]. Thank youn.t.s.b for looking into this. Just really concerned because if the fire would have got out of hand i have my grandchildren in the car god forbid something were to happen to them.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*cc
I was driving and my daytime running lights first went off. The car still ran but the dash light indicating the lights were working also went off. This is something that happens intermittently. It can and has happened right when i start the car, or while driving on the road.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that burning wires fumes emitted inside the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the key released from the ignition while the vehicle was on and the radio failed to operate intermittently. In addition, the headlight malfunctioned. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
I have purchased a 2005 chevy aveoapproximately 3 years ago since then i have had to have the drivers door lock reinstalled the bolt holding it on fell off .the right side windshield wiper has worn out 8 times due to it extending beyond the windshield and ripping the end of the blade and the last event was two weeks ago the key would not come out of the steering column due to the switch under the shift columnfailed and had to replace it naturally it was a dealer only item my car has 53000 miles and i was always a chevy fan but now i am rethinking this. Hope no one else has this problem but if you do disconnect the battery terminal and the key will go into the lock position allowing it to be removed.
I have had trouble with fuses and shorts due to bad engine fuse box i have paid to have fuses replace 5 times they keep burning and shorting out due to bad fuse box. No one seems to know how to fix problemlights go on, and off, inside light wont work , horn wont work, running lights wont turn off, o2 fuses wont worki need help i need to know how to repairfor good.
I bought this car for in 2011 with 25,000 miles, first 6 months was great. But then the inside panel lights were going on and off. Door locks weren't working and i noticed a burn mark on my panel under steering wheels and took to a shop and he said wires were a mess under the dash. He fixed the door locks for me and 200 and something dollars still no panel lights. I tried to fix this problem but no one wants to touch the mess. I got a recall for the daytime running lights which i never had a problem with, so when i brought it in for that told them about the problem and nothing was done.

While i am driving i often smell burning plastic i could not tell where it was coming from. I called gm and the representative told me that it was coming from my dash behind my steering wheel. I also have noticed that after i have driven anywhere my key, after i have taken it out of the ignition, is really hot. The longer i drive the hotter my key becomes. When i called gm about this problem the representative told me that she can not tell my why my key got hot. When i asked her about the recall on my car that i had seen on the news she told me that it is not an official recall and she can not do anything about it. They also informed me that i can take it into a dealership to get it looked at but it would have to be out of pocket. I have talked to gm multiple times and they have told me only that the recall would be vin specific, i don't understand how it is vin specific if i am telling them that my car is not right. I really would just like my car looked at for the parts that are supposed to be recalled before something bad happens to me or my passengers. I also believe that since this is a known issue i should not have to take it to a dealership to get looked at and pay hundreds of dollars out of my pocket.
I got into my car at night to drive home from a friend's house. None of my internal lights, with the exception of the clock and radio, would come on. Driving at night without being able to see your dash instruments is not easy. I am told it has to do with a short in the power distribution box.
Letter from senator corker on behalf of constituent re issues with chevrolet aveo.the consumer stated the instrument panel lights went out on the dashboard. A mechanic informed the consumer,a part under the hood, in a fuse box, known as a splitter, had burned out. The consumer received a recall notice in july 2014 and the parts are still not available. Recall #14v261000 updated 02/23/15.
On sunday evening i attempted to put my 2005 chevy aveo into drive after putting my key in the ignition and starting the vehicle but the shifter was stuck in park. The aveo has a feature called the "shift lock release" which is a hole on the shifter console you can put a screwdriver or other tool into to release the shifter into drive in these situations. I was able to put the car in drive and make it home safely after using the shift lock release but when i got home i realized my key was stuck in the ignition. My car sat unlocked overnight because i could not get the key out. On monday i called my local gm dealership in salem, oh and they stated they would not be able to take a look at my car until tuesday. I spent the entire day researching online and found many customers who have experienced this same issue with the aveo. Later on in the evening i realized my brake lights weren't working but there was not a blown fuse or switch. I tested both of the brake lights and they were still good. On tuesday i took my car to the dealership and it cost me $80 for the mechanic to tell me the shifter is bad, which i already knew. They also stated it would be $300 to repair the shifter. I strongly believe the failure of the brake lights, the shifter and the ignition are tied together and should be replaced by gm at no cost to me. My vehicle is sitting unattended with the key in it, which runs the risk of it being stolen. Not to mention when i am driving i have no brake lights to alert the other drivers i am slowing down or stopping which could cause an accident. Each time i attempt to put the car in drive i have to insert something into the shift lock release to shift the car and this has been going on since sunday.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo.the contact stated that the key continuously would become stuck in the ignition and cause the gear shift to become locked in gear whether driving or if the vehicle was turned off. In addition, the interior lights failed and only the radio and clock lights would illuminate. The vehicle was neither inspected nor repaired. The failure and current mileage was 80,000.

Consumer letter concerning engine service light illuminated. The enginelight illuminated due to a fuel gauge error the first time. When the engine light illuminated again, the dealer explained that the wiring harness needed to be relocated and not repaired.

The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic. The contact was informed that the wiring connected to the fuse box under the hood was melted and burned. The vehicle was not repaired. I purchased a 2005 chevy aveo and i have had nothing but problems ever since. After 1 year the car broke down. The idler stuck at full-throttle and burned my timing belt off. Not only the engine but the car was rendered useless after that. I had to replace the engine (my pops did really) and now the second engine has done the very same thing at only 18,000 miles. Twice i was lucky enough to be in a position where my daughter was not with me at the time and i could push my car off of the road myself and not get killed. I called gm and they say that they cannot guarantee that they will fix the problem for me. The first time i talked to them they wouldn't even listen to me. They told me that my vin number did not match the recalls...though these cars had the very same problem. The car should have either been replaced or i should have gotten my money back. I have been rendered homeless and jobless twice now because of this car. I've lost everything. I can't keep paying on this car with their faulty engines. If i replace the engine it will do the same thing. It's not vin specific...it's the engines period. I could have gotten killed twice!
Driving down the road and car just shut off. Almost got into an accident because of it.
I just bought this 2005 chevy aveo 2 wks ago when the alternator went out of my car and i was having surgery the next day then would need a car for work 2 days later, so i had no time to properly look for a car. I just came off the exit of a 4 lane highway 1.5hrs away from home. As i was slowing to stop there was a bunch of white smoke (turned out to be steam) billowing out from under the hood and the car engine stopped running. A man helped push the car offthe road and they looked under the hood and discovered the thermostat housing split apart. It's plastic! the housing was clearly defective since it was sheared in half as if cut with large knife. How stupid! he gave my husband a ride to the nearest napa auto parts where the ordered from another dealer. We had to wait 1.5hr and the owner helped replace it. The new one was metal! put antifreeze in and tried to start the car several times and it won't start. Had to have the car towed. I got on the computer for help diagnosing the problem and discover a million complaints on edmunds.com, automotive forums, etc. That gm has known about this and other problems with this car for years such as plastic pully, timing belt breaks that completely kills the engine. That's where i found this site.this car is a lemon and should be recalled!!! heck on this site there are complaints from 2011 and still no recalls! from what i learned reading all the complaints just about everything in this car is junk. I am not going to put another penny into this car. It's at the mileage range to replace the timing belt, the plastic pully, and the water pump, not to mention the electrical stuff. It would've been cheaper to rent a car for the 2wks. Struts busted. I'm gonna take the loss and never buy chevy again!please help us owners get chevy to make this right. They and you have known the many problems a long time! please do the right thing!
This vehicle has been a nightmare beginning with ignition locked and unable to get into drive had to replace ignitionsolenoid. My interior lights no longer work. The thermostat went out then replaced the valve cover gaskets. And finally going down i95 my engine just made a very loud noise and just quit. I was told by a mechanic that this happens a lot in this make and model from the timing chain. So i now will need to relace the motor.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that when attempting to accelerate from a stop, the engine rpms abnormally increased without warning. The vehicle was not taken to dealer for a diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the approximate failure mileage was 70,000. The consumer stated the accelerator pedal became stuck. She tried to release it with her hand, but it didn't move. Updated 11/18/14
Timing belt/chain broke. Car is below the 60,000 mile mark for scheduled replacement as stated from manufacturer.car broke down suddenly in the middle of the road creating a hazard to the driver and others.
I bought this car brand new and kept up the maintenance religiously!i was horrified to find out that mytiming belt went out at 46,000 miles!my manual says to replace timing belt at 60,000 miles.i've read there was a recall issued in 2006, but it didn't go to owners; just service shops...i was never alerted, that was definitely a mistake on gm's part.i feel as though i should be compensated!!!
I was driving down the highway at 55 mph and the car started to lose acceleration.i pressed on the gas and nothing happened.i started slowing very quickly and i pulled off to the side where eventually the car completely shut down all on its own and the battery light came onthe dash.i turned the ignition to off and restarted the car.i was able to keep going without another incident.the next day on my way home from work the same thing happened again.my check engine light was on at the time for which i just had my fuel cap replaced because it was not locking at all.after a few days my check engine light has gone off.i am seriously concerned about this as this car is my main means of transportation back and forth to work which is an hour drive for me.i just recently purchased this car (within the last 3 weeks) from the ford dealership in tillamook or and of course they did not report any of these issues.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated while traveling approximately 20 mph, a loud noise was emitted from the engine compartment and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was moved to the shoulder and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was found that the idle pulley had. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000. The vin was unavailable.
My wife was driving our chevy aveo 2005 on a major 4 lane highway during the morning rush hour. She is doing about 60mph in the inner left lane on an icy tuesday morning commute.then she loses all power and acceleration, every light in the car comes on and she realizes there is a problem. She is mid way up a hill and has to get over. There is an on ramp to her right and more traffic so she had to go into the left berm. By this time she has peaked the top of the hill and is on the flat mesa. There is very little room to move over and she is over as far as possible. State and local traffic enforcement come to her aide and allow her to wait for me and a tow truck to get the vehicle moved. Nearly a dozen cars almost hit them after i arrived on the scene before the determined that it was unsafe for us to wait with the vehicle. They tagged the car and we had it towed. It turns out that the idler pulley has snapped and it is a very common problem with aveos. A very common problem that put my wife, two officers and i in harms way. Let alone that recalling the small part would have saved everyone a $1900-2500 repair job. I understand that many consider this style car disposable but i say it as an affordable energy efficient commuter vehicle. However these features are not worth human life...
Hi i bough a 2005 chevy aveo with9,000.00 mile i had no problem. Until one day the car completely stop and wont turn on. It had almost 23,000.00 when it happen. Luckily for me it stop in front of a mechanic shop. The shop check the car and said the engine is bad. I bough a used low mileage enginereplace it and it turn on and driveexcept for the shifting. It didn't shift to fourth gear and also turn off while driving it. Then i was told the transmission is bad. I change the transmission with low mileage and still i have the same problem i had warranty change it again and still it doesn't shift fourth gear and it still turns off. I change the computer, i did a tune up, engine oil change, i'vechange thecoils and some seal in top of the engine, and i still have the same problem. The car been sitting since theni wanted to wait to have money to fix it, thinking that maybe the shop was lying to me by asking me to replace all this things. I save i few dollars and wanted to get it fix i had another shop looked at it and it seems that is the same diagnostic was detected. I friend told me to google it and i found out that am not the only one with that problem. I just wish i google it before i spend all the money on it. Lesson learn i hope they do a recall because i too was afraid to drive and get in to an accident because it turn off on me .
The mileage and speed are approximate.i was backing out of my ice and snow covered driveway in february 2015.there is a small dip where my driveway meets the street so i accelerated so as not to get my tires stuck in the icy dip.as i was backing my car into the street, and my car was in the lane of traffic the car shut off.i was unable to restart the car.my neighbor, and another gentleman who stopped to help, pushed my car back into my driveway.i attempted to start the car several times after the incident.the car never again started.i borrowed a vehicle until i had enough money to have the car towed to a mechanic for repairs.a mechanic looked at my vehicle and told me on may 11, 2015 that the car needs a new engine, the price of which is $4,823.00.the mechanic further told me that the aftermarket/remanufactured engines company they deal with does not have an engine for this make and model car because this engine has so many problems that the company will not touch it.i believe that the oem engine has serious defects that have been overlooked due to the lack of reporting and lack of serious injury associated with the defect/failure.my car has shut off on me on three different days within an approximate six month period.i had a mechanic look at the car to figure out why it was shutting off on me in traffic and there was no indicator of any issue.my check engine light never came on, even after the recent engine failure.please investigate this engine.
We were driving home from austin going 65 mph on highway 290 when the car just shuts down. Car had over 1/2 tank of gas, no lights came on, just seemed like the car turned off while it was going. Almost got into a car accident trying to pull over ( not to mention my husband was driving, im 6 months pregnant, and we had our 4 year old daughter in the backseat) , checked the car out, and nothing was wrong. Had to wait 3 hours before anyone could tow us home to houston. Been working on the car all day today, nothing is found wrong with it. Everything works, just doesn't want to turn on?!
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated while driving 50 mph the vehicle stalled and all of the warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnostic testing and the contact was informed that the engine locked and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. One year later, the vehicle began to overheat frequently. It was returned to the dealer who confirmed that the head gasket would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 75,000.
Was driving on i-94 from milwaukee to chicago, once in kenosha area the car choked, heard a big noise and died completely would not turn on again. Pushed it to the shoulder and called 911. The dot towed the car to safety and then it was brought to the shop. The mechanic described the problem as the idler pulley and the timing belt are broken down and this cause the valves and piston to be completely damaged. The car was always maintained according to gm recommendation, timing belt performed by hall chevrolet dealer at 67000 and oil change was regularly done at 3000miles. Also the car has a complete 92000 miles review with heiser chevrolet back in march with all the maintenance recommended by gm (transmission, coolant, belts, hoses...etc). The car is still in great shape. The timing belt and the idler part must be defective.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the engine stalled. The failure occurred on several occasions. 2005 aveo (bought new) with timing belt failure destroying engine. Had this happened on the interstate at 70 miles an hour it could have been fatal. From my research gmc has known about this issue since at least 2006 and yet have not assisted consumers to correct this nor recalled their car. I have read reports on almost all years of aveo having this problem well before the 60000 recommended timing belt replacement. Two different mechanics confirmed timing belt failure. All i get from gmc is the run around. Upset over money but more concerned about these cars being on the highways and creating some horrible accident when the engine suddenly stops working and controlling the car is difficult or impossible. Planning to get rid of mine, can't afford the thousands of dollars to fix nor do i trust this car.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact was driving approximately 40 mph. There was a popping noise, the engine shut off and the electrical system remained on. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The failure was contributed to a shattered timing pulley; however, the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. The vehicle was not repaired when the complaint was filed. The failure and current mileages were 60,000.
2005 chevy aveo...timing belt snapped with no warning in left hand lane on highway. I serviced my car and never was given warning by chevy dealer i went to. Car just stopped cold...very dangerous. Now the motor is trashed, the car useless. This vehicle needs to be recalled!
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact was driving approximately 40-45 mph when a knocking was heard from the engine.the contact removed the vehicle from the roadway and shut the vehicle off but the vehicle failed to restart.the vehicle was then towed to a local repair shop where she was advised that there were damages to the engine valves and that the head would need to be removed. The mechanic also recommended taking the vehicle to an authorized dealer.the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. She contacted the manufacturer and they advised her that they could not provide any assistance until the vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer.the vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo.while driving 25 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning and was difficult to slow down.she was forced to turn the engine off and restart it.the first failure occurred in april of 2006 at 6,000 miles.in july 2007, the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure or obtain a reading in the computer.on one occasion the failure occurred 4 times in a day.the dealer also offered to purchase the vehicle for $7,000.the failure mileage was 6,000 and current mileage was 15,000.
Driving on the freeway uphill. No warning lights, no change in temperature.thermostat housing broke in half at the seam. Thermostat is originally from factory, permanently encased in a plastic type housing. This is all one (1) piece. Chevy has superseded this item with a metal type housing within their ranks/computers, because it was a known issue. This item (plastic thermostat housing) knowingly splits as early as 30,000 miles. For us it was about 45,000 miles. This was never a recall item nor was any info ever sent out warning about it. Failure of this part leads to the known leaking and expelling of hazardous anti-freeze/coolant on roads but also leads to the unrealized overheating of engine. This can lead to unnecessary engine damage from simple overheating of oil to the extreme of blown head gaskets, blown/broken cylinder rings, warped engine heads or complete engine seizure. This failing part was known early enough that the new product had already been made and distributed to dealerships. Web logs are full of this particular failure, on this vehicle. 3 days after repair, the car has a "slow start", as long as 15 min. The dealer kept it 2 days, replaced plugs & wires, charged $400. 3 days after this (10/13/08), same exact problem, in addition hold light will stay on & car shakes as if not getting fuel. I must turn off the engine and attempt to restart. The dealer has informed me unless the actual problem is occurring they cannot diagnose. Today (10/16/08) after a slow start, the a/c worked for about 10 min then started blowing hot air. Turned it off for a couple of minutes and it proceeded with cool air. This happened twice.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated the vehicle overheated as a result of the thermostat casing melting. The dealer stated the casing was melted because it was manufactured from of plastic. There was not a recall for the failure however the dealer advised that the design had recently changed on the casing from plastic to metal. The failure and current mileage was 85,000.updated 11/16/10. *lj
I was running errands when steam came gushing out on my passenger side in the hood area. I pulled over to discover that my thermostat housing was broken and my thermostat laying elsewhere in the car. I searched the internet and discovered that this is a well-known problem. The current thermostat housing is made of plastic. The design is such that the only thing that was holding the thermostat in was a sound welded plastic seam. I have ordered a new metal housing with an improved design. To me, this indicates chevy knew about this problem. Called chevy consumer line and they gave the old line of your car is not under warranty and claimed they had no history of complaints.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo.the contact stated that the timing belt gear was fractured on one side and the other side was close to failing.the timing belt was replaced twice prior to the most recent failure by a local mechanic, but the failure recurred.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 74,000 and the current mileage was 126,096.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo.when the contact pulled out into traffic at 5 mph, the vehicle would stall or act as if it was not getting enough gasoline to drive forward.on one occasion, the vehicle completely shut down without warning.prior to the failure, the contact placed the vehicle into park and restarted it, causing it to quickly accelerate forward.the dealer could not diagnose the cause of the failure.the contact was informed to retrieve her vehicle because they did not know whether or not the failure was repaired.she also consulted the manufacturer and filed a complaint.the vin was unknown.the current mileage was approximately 34,700 and failure mileage was approximately 34,500.

Cracked thermostat housing- cheaply made (plastic) thermostat housing which can easily crack and it has in several aveo between the years 2004-2006.i have a 2005 chevy aveo and it cracked costing me entirely too much money on a tow, rental car etc.
I have a 2005 chevy aveo and recently was driving to work when it started to smoke and make funny noises, after being fixedat the dealership, i was told that the clutch was red hot, cracked the plate and the fly well and was a hazard to drive, i have only had the car three yrs and never did anything to cause this, i am wondering if this was a manufacture or mechanical issue with the car, i ended up paying 854$ to fix the car but for the time that i was without it, i had to take a bus to work for three weeks and rely on friends to help me out. Is this car safe?
Thermostat housing has cracked due to its unreliable plastic composition.after failure, coolant was leaked throughout engine compartment creating a major fire hazard and causing damage to multiple engine components.after researching this problem, numerous complaints were discovered with the exact nature.
2005 chevrolet aveo. Consumer writes in regards to timing belt failure *tgwthe consumer stated while driving 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly stopped running, it felt as though the transmission had fallen out.while trying to get to the emergency lane, the vehicle would not accelerate. Upon inspection, it was determined the timing belt idle pulley had broken, along with the serpentine belt, thermostat, water pump, as well as all of the 16 valves were bent. The total cost in parts and labor was $ 2,914.54. The consumer also stated the door lock cylinder fell into the door panel, the vacuum supply line to the sensor was cracked, which caused a vacuum leak.
Consumer letter concerning engine service light illuminated. The enginelight illuminated due to a fuel gauge error the first time. When the engine light illuminated again, the dealer explained that the wiring harness needed to be relocated and not repaired.
The timing belt idler pulley broke, my timing belt is stripped, and my valves are bent on my 2005 chevy aveo.it has 58,872 miles.i bought it less than 8 weeks ago.gm is not being cooperative.
It just cost me $178 to replace the cheap, should've been recalled thermostat housing.now 3 days later my timing belt, serpentine belt and tension pulley broke that is going to cost me $500 to fix. Gm does not want to seem to take any responsibility for the unsafe vehicle they sold me.there are many, many, many complaints on line of other 2005 chevy aveo owners.i intend to get an attorney and sue gm.i have a 7 year old grandson who was in the car with me when it broke down.this is twice in one month that things have broken on this car.i am also looking into the lemon law. Shame on gm.
Driving my 2005 chevrolet aveo on the highway for 10 min noticedsmoke or steamcoming outof the passenger side hood plastic thermostat housing cracked at 49,100 miles. Damaged engine due to overheating no warning lights came up before thermostat housing broke.
Timing belt failed. Destroying the heads and pistons...updated 07-05-13
I drive a 2005 chevy aveo, yesterday 10-22-08, while i was driving on the freeway, my engine temp shot up to max. Luckily i was just coming up on my exit so i got to the bottom of the offramp and pulled off to the side. Smoke was pouring out the hood of my car. It turns out the plastic housing thermostat housing cracked in half and all the coolant in my car poured out. While i was sitting on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck my engine continued to get overheated.i replaced my water pump housing myself chevy has an updated thermostat housing made of metal now, but now i have large amounts of air blowing through my coolant reservoir. My head gasket is blown and possibly the head is warped. I was looking on line for info and it turns out this is a very common problem for many people. Now because chevy didn't recall a known problem there are hundreds of people out there having to pay $1,000+ to have major engine work performed. Not to mention all those people stuck on the side of the road waiting for tow trucks. I don't know if this qualifies as something your association deals with but i just think someone should be notified and something should be done.thank you for your time.
Busted timing belt pulley after only 46k miles. Busted all 16 valves.required a complete head job at over 2k$.
The previous evening we were coming home from visiting some friends ,the car was never over 100 miles day we bought it until the time of the engine's demise,we noticed a slight clicking noise over the music of the radio, pulling into a lighted area, we found all fluids fine, no dripping, no heating up, no stalling, no real indications of any trouble except a slight clicking.. The next morning i noticed a clicking at start up, immediately i drove off to the repair shop that was just blocks away, when i was within 1 block of the shop the entire system shut down, we were forced to get a wrecker to tow us the last block. The independent repairman informed us this was a common problem with this make of auto(aveo) due to a design defect with the timing belt ,it would destroy the engine and he could not find a replacement engine.because we had 75 thousand miles on the car, (and it is paid off)he thought he had heard of a recall in 2006,he suggested we contacted the auto dealer, auto way chevrolet, hwy 19, clearwater, fla.which we did.we were informed by their service director that they could not find an open 2006 recall, though a reminder to replace belt at 68 k, no alert nor advisory was ever received though we do get all advertisements and she advised awc did not handle such aproblem, but, they would give us gm's number, upon calling that number i talked with a very amiable young man in buenos aires, who also informed me they did not appear to have a recall on this particular model, he then called auto way chevrolet, clw. Fla, usa and monitored the service department now telling me if i would bring it to them, they could evaluate the cause and maybe work something out with us.. Upon internet investigation we have found a number of individuals complaining about this year,of aveo, having the engine fail in roughly the same mileage 68-78 thousand miles. .
I have a 2005 chevrolet aveo with 50,000 miles.i have done the routine maintenance on the vehicle.however, a week ago the timing belt broke and ruined my engine.in my maintenance book it says not to change the belt until 60,000 miles and gm is telling me it is my problem since i am no longer under warranty.i have looked on line and found others who have problems with their timing belts going before the required maintenance.can you please help.they want $2,200 to fix vehicle. This occurred while i was driving and i lost power in my car while gliding through a red light.thank god no one hit me.updated ivoq 02/02/11
I have just over48,000 thousand miles on my 2005 chevy aveo hatchback. The thermostat housing unit on this vehicle is made out of plastic. Over time it will wear down, and eventually crack. As a result, the engine coolant will leak out and your engine will overheat.it is not part of the power train warranty coverage and with tax the repair ran $312 dollars.this is for a design issue with using hardware with a plastic housing.the dealership knows this issue exists and that you'll have to come in for repairs eventually.luckily i wasn't on the freeway when this happened and traveling at low enough speeds to make it home safely.i then had the car towed to the dealership for repairs.the automotive representative advised there wasn't any real way to avoid the incident with any preventive maintenance.i said it was nothing that i did with the use of the vehicle.it was a matter of timing, the summer heat conditions and the fact that the original thermostat component has a plastic housing.he stated it should not happen again as the replacement thermostat was of different construct and was no longer plastic.
We were driving along in the dead of winter and noticed there was no heat. We hooked it up to a code reader and it came up p0128 a thermostat housing fault. Brought it in to get checked and it is the thermostat housing and the service center employees all knew this aknown failure on this vehicle. The out of pocket cost 160.00 for part only from chevy not including labor. The new one is metal not plastic like the one that rolled out of the factory, so this must be a consumer paid recall. Which should be against the law. If you make a faulty part that fails you should pay for it. Just ask toyota, they are.
2005 aveo 63,000 this aveo quit pulling out from the turnpike booth on pa.43. It was towed to fike chevrolet where i was told the timing tensioner pull split in half throwing the timing belt off. Since this is a interference engine ( meaning without the timing belt the valves hit the pistons) it causes a catastrophic failure to the cylinder head and possible piston damage. The dealer salvage yards and most other mechanics admit this is a defect in the plastic pulleys and timing belt. Gm says (it happens to all of them ) and will not compensate for damages. I ask gm if they recorded my conversation and they do but will not allow me a copy because it's for (internal use only) this aveo had it's timing belt and head replaced at 11,400 mile and at the current mileage is under the mileage for recommendedreplacement. Front wheel bearing also where replace 4 months ago. This was the first and last gm product i will ever buy .
My wife was driving to the grocery store about a mile away in a 2005 chevy aveo.when she got there smoke was pouring out of her hood.upon further inspection, the (plastic) thermostat housing was split in half allowing all the radiator fluid to spill out.after further research, this has been a widespread problem on this car and the manufacturer has even switched to using aluminum thermostat housings instead of the plastic ones without posting a recall.if she had been driving more than a mile down the road, it is very possible her engine would have over heated and possibly warped the heads and destroyed her engine.this known problem needs to be a recall.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that the engine overheated and the temperature gage display stated that the vehicle was overheating. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the drl module needed to be replaced.the contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign id number: 14v261000 (exterior lighting), however the part needed to perform the recall repair was unavailable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
Normal driving of vehicle plastic thermostat housing unit broke in half and exploded coolant over the engine and windshield of vehicle. Called the dealer and was informed that they know that the part is faulty and wears out in under 40,000 miles and have redesigned the part using pot metal which will now cost 89.99 to replace. This is the second time we have had to replace this same part on this car in the three years we have owned it. So they know the part is faulty and then charge five time what the original parts replacement cost was because they know you have to replace it through them.
My daughter was driving our 2005 chevy aveo when she noticed smoke coming from under the hood, she contacted me and i came and saw anti-freeze all over engine compartment, it is when i noticed the thermostat housing split at seam. We got the car home using 3.5 gallons of anti-freeze and several stops to let engine cool. I have read hundreds of postings on different websites with people having the same problem. This part is two plastic parts sealed together with the thermostat between them. I have noticed that chevy knew of this problem happening from 30k-50k mileage on the vehicles and the new replacement part is now metal. Once i get the part and install it i will have to pay to have the engine checked since most of the complaints also mention the head warping due to the heat caused by the thermostat housing breaking.
I do have complaint that i would like to file. It is regards to 2004-2007 chevrolet aveos. I had bought my 2005 aveo brand new from chevy. It is now my sons car. He was driving the car at 45 mph came to a stop light and the car just stopped. What had happened is the thermostat housing had blown apart. It is a 2 piece plastic piece of junk. A thermostat housing should never blow apart. In 2008 chevy starting putting metal ones on the car. One week before this happened my son was traveling with his 2.5 year old daughter in the back roads of pa heading down to visit his grandfather. If this had happened at that time there are long stretches of desolate road and with the mountains many times cell phones do not work. He and my granddaughter could have been in a lot of trouble. I cannot believe that this has not been brought to your attention before, it is all over the web. I will include some links below. This problem warped the head and could have done lower engine damage and chevy just walks away, not our problem.anyone who knows about cars knows a thermostat housing should not blow apart. Chevy has put an inferior quality that is prone to failure in a critical area of a cars cooling system. There was nothing mechanically wrong with this car prior to this incident.http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f117c65/http://www.automotiveforums.com/t880909-beware_aveo_s_plastic_t_stat_housing.htmlhttp://www.arfc.org/complaints/2004/chevrolet/aveo/?q=&page=1.
2005 chevy aveo broken timing belt warped valves after 89,535 miles.car was never inspected by dealership prior to selling car.taken in numerous times because of check engine light on or flashing. Purchased car 5-21-10.
While driving i noticed a smoke coming from under the hood. I looked down to see my engine temp indicator on hot. I wasn't far from my home luckily at the time, so i drove it home. I opened my hood a couple minutes later to find water sizzling on my thermostat housing.(which is constructed oftwo pieces of plastic, glued together)i tried to look up info on it and came across all kinds of people complaining about this exact same problem with their 2004-2005 chevy aveo ls. The earliest complaint i saw was as early as january of2009.after looking at your website, i found out that there is no recalls on this item at all.also, the only place to get a new one is at the dealership for $91.00 and that is without labor cost. In addition, it is not covered under warranty.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. While driving 50 mph, the thermostat failed and the vehicle began vibrating and lunging forward. The contact took the vehicle to a local repair shop. He was advised that the antifreeze/coolant was spilling onto the engine, causing the vehicle to vibrate. The contact is concerned that the failure occurred since the thermostat and housing were made out of plastic and mounted into the vehicle with adhesive. The manufacturer stated that there was a metal replacement part being manufactured. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileages were approximately 70,000.
The thermostat housing blew apart and i was 75 miles away from home on a sunday. I replaced it with and 12 days later it blew apart again.my car has been in a reliable garage now for 2 weeks and they can't get the part.no local dealers have the part and the warehouse is "out of stock".i had a 7 year old child in my car. This should have been a recall by gm and i intend to go as far as the ceo if i have to. This is costing me a great deal of money to rent a car.i want my money back from gm along with a letter of apology.shame on them.
The clock on my 2005 chevy aveo does not work continuously. Sometimes the display works and sometimes it does not. As for safety issues, the plastic thermostat housing broke while driving down the road last week. After pricing replacement plastic parts, we opted to purchase the metal one, which can only be purchased from the dealer and which is more than twice the price of the plastic ones. We still had a leak, so we called a local napa store and purchased a gasket for under $2. After removing and then attempting to replace the part again, one of the bolt holes broke off. Isn't the metal supposed to be more durable? all this has happened in less than a week and the dealer refuses to stand behind the part. Not only was the plastic piece shoddy, so is the metal one and so is chevrolet's customer service.
Was driving on the expressway, when the thermostat housing broke.the car's mileage was 34, 500.called dealership since the wasstill under warranty and the dealer told me that the part was not covered.i had to pay upfront for the part and had it replaced.also the car now starts to shake and the hold light keeps flashing.this happens about twice a week.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated in the engine coolant that the plastic elbow shattered causing the vehicle to over heat while driving 60 mph. The thermostat started running hot and the vehicle was smoking. The contact drove onto the emergency lane and as the hood opened the plastic piece on the thermostat blew apart. No one was injured. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic. The plastic component on the thermostat had to be replaced with a metal piece. The dealer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 73,000.
2005 chevy aveo: plastic thermostat housing broke, spraying motor with coolant, shorting out plug wires and warping the head. The car has 78,000 miles. Requires head replacement/ repair, and gaskets.
The thermostat housing broke from the engine block and burst through the plastic housing.i was on the freeway coming home from work when steam began pouring out the exhaust and from under my hood.last year, a plastic bolt on the engine broke and sent two rods through the manifold; i got a new engine.i would think twice about this car.
Thermostat housing broke in half causing overheating and internal engine damage.
In the beginning i had no problems with the car whatsoever. Then the thermostat housing blew apart causing the engine to overheat and blowing the head gasket. Neither chevy or my extended warranty company (toyota) would cover the repair. I had to spend over one hundred dollars on just the thermostat housing and over three hundred to get the problem diagnosed. The car still sits in my driveway broken. I had to spend another four hundred and fifty dollars to get the head repaired and to buy the new gaskets. Just got the car back together and still doesn't run right.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. While driving the vehicles engine was became hot. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility for inspection. The technician replaced the main computer.the current and failure mileages were 85000. Updated 01/05/10. *ljthe consumer stated the vehicle was manufactured with a plastic temperature housing which eventually melted due to extreme heat in texas, which caused the vehicle to get hot and the engine to burn up. The engine and computer were replaced. After 2 months of driving, the transmission failed.updated 01/07/10.
Plastic elbow on 2005 chevy aveo, due to heat, broke, causing engine to overheat, had to have engine head resurfaced in march 2009;then catalytic converter went out.after fixing igniter, test proved, engine was only firing at less then 50% on cylinders 1 & 2 due to lack of compression, that began with plastic elbow breaking.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo.while merging onto the highway at an unknown speed, the vehicle shut off.it took approximately five minutes for the vehicle to restart and then it shut off again.there were no warnings prior to the failures.the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice, but they could not diagnose the cause of the failure.during the third visit, the check engine light illuminated and the dealer stated that the oxygen senor was activated and would not cause the vehicle to shut off.the manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer.the failure mileage was 12,000 and current mileage was 39,000.
2005 chevrolet aveo. Consumer states faulty defective timing belt *tgwthe consumer stated the timing belt which controlled all of the engine parts broke and caused catastrophic damage to the engine.
I am disabled, and in 2005, i purchased a new chevy aveo from gm dealer and in 2006 gm sent notice to all dealers that these engines had a defective timing belt and to notify and offer new car buyers a free replacement of the defective part as failure of defective part would likely destroy the engine. I received no notice from gm or my dealer. When my car reached just 49k miles the defective part failed (rubber timing belt) and has caused massive engine damage requiring all new head, valves, and other parts. Dealer refused to even diagnosis the vehicle to avoid documentation of cause and liability and i had at attempt myself and was severely injured.i live on key west and only dealer who sold me the vehicle is miles sales and service. I have spent $600.00 to replace defective timing belt and associated parts but one cylinder has no compression confirming values were bent and a 1.5k head replacement is needed which i cannot afford living solely on social security disability in section 8 public housings so now being disabled i have no transportation for medical appointments, or even food shopping. I was victim survivor of 9/11 wtc attack and since gm and dealer knew of this defect and failed to give notice i believe they are in violation of several consumer and regulatory requirements about known defects notice and replacement standards and have put buyers of their product who are disabled.... In physical danger.
I own a 2005 chevy aveo.have owned since 7-15-05.no problems except for head gasket replaced while still under warranty.on 3/23/09, i was on the way to work & went to pass a car.as i pulled back in to the lane & took my foot off the gas the cars speed still increased. Applied brakes and could still feel the engine pulling as if i were still pressing the gas pedal.slid in to neutral and the rpms raced to 7. I flipped back in to drive & the car kept speeding up.put back in to neutral & hit the gas a couple of times to try & kick it down & it finally went after the 3rd time flipping it back & forth between neutral & drive.side note: car was sitting out all night in with temp dropping to teens with windchill.this is the second incident.however, the first time it was not this extreme.i was at approx 80-85 mph before it kicked back down this time.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact was attempting to accelerate 15 mph from a traffic stop when the vehicle exhibited an unusually loud grumbling noise before stalling. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle then exhibited the same noise before stalling a second time. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who advised that the retensioner belt was fractured and spew shards of metal throughout the engine area. The dealer advised bringing the vehicle in for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 64,276.
Driving home from church and car started smoking! only to find outthat the thermostat housing was busted!
2005 chevy aveowith 12,000 miles.for the past two days, when i let up on the throttle gently, the car does not slow down, exactly like complaint # 10262822 described.the pedal feels as though the linkage is sticking somewhere.if i "hit" the throttle hard and immediately release, the throttle returns to idle position.
Timing belt failure. 70,000 miles.
The timing belt pulleys broke on my 2005 chevy aveo at only 42,000 miles ruining the engine. I contacted gm who refused to cover the damage. They stated that i had it towed to a repair shop not a gm dealer. From the complaints i have read on this website, if i had taken it to a dealer, they would not have covered it either. The timing belt is fixed but it is still blowing white smoke out of the exhaust, probably the lousyplasticthermostat housing. There are so many complaints on this vehicle that i believe there should be a recall.

I bought this car for in 2011 with 25,000 miles, first 6 months was great. But then the inside panel lights were going on and off. Door locks weren't working and i noticed a burn mark on my panel under steering wheels and took to a shop and he said wires were a mess under the dash. He fixed the door locks for me and 200 and something dollars still no panel lights. I tried to fix this problem but no one wants to touch the mess. I got a recall for the daytime running lights which i never had a problem with, so when i brought it in for that told them about the problem and nothing was done.

Multi fault lighting problem(dash, shifter and rh rear running lights)aveo lt 2005127500 miles.
First my back running light went out, next front running light went out, both out now. No fuses burnt out. Splicer is burnt and needs to be replaced. Seems to be an ongoing incident.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that all interior lights and the instrument panel lights failed to illuminate. I was driving and my daytime running lights first went off. The car still ran but the dash light indicating the lights were working also went off. This is something that happens intermittently. It can and has happened right when i start the car, or while driving on the road.

2005 aveo lt ~ day or night the safety headlights (headlights / other) will just shut off for no reason after being on for less than an hour. ~ it's not fun driving on i-95 here in east central fla. And all of the sudden your headlights disappear! ! !~ one month after we bought the car (used) from rosner chevrolet (melbourne, fla.) the front end suspension started squeaking, ~ and the thermostat housing came apart.
Automobile tail lights, front parking lights, instrument panel illumination lights, and gear shift illumination lights went out at the same time.
The shift gear does not work my back lights are all out i did not know this my check engine light stay on i have had new sensors put in one week and the next week check engine light comes back on what is wrong with this car why wont they recall it i have to drive this car clock wont keep right time gear shift light goes on an doff and my low beam andhave had this car rightout of the show room only 13 miles on it when i got it and know it is all mess up i don't know what to do about it!

Dashboard cluster lights began to malfunction intermittently then after two days they wouldn't illuminate at all. The gear shifter lights and one tail light were also affected. After repair it was determined a wire harness that leads to the underwood fuse box had melted shorting the electrical wires. Having spontaneously burned, the interior and exterior lights wouldn't work. This made it impossible to see the speedometer, fuel gauge, engine fluid monitoring gauges, etcetera. Also, the exterior lights affected made for a dangerous driving condition as well as a traffic offense. After researching this i learned there are many, many cases of exactly the same problem with exactly the same year, make, and model.

Tacada recalli bought my car had 121000 miles all a sudden i have no right tail light no dash lights an no passengers front orange light ther is no power going to fuse box under hood i called the dealership they stated my vin had been fixed for that recal and it has not
In addition to the daytime headlights randomly shutting off, the clock in the center of the dashboard will disappear until i turn on the headlights then it reappears.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo.while driving between55 and 60 mph, the contact stated that the passenger compartment smelled like gasoline.the odor was noticed only when driving uphill.the dealer stated that the fuel tank "burps" and the gasoline smell indicates that the catalytic converter was working properly.the failure mileage was 34,000 and current mileage was 35,700.
This is not my vehicle.i am reporting fraud by gm. Please review the information i am supplying because the new gm failed to do so.*dt
Dash lights do not work on chevy aveo ls and we cannot see our instruments because there are no lights at night and how fast we are going. We feel very unsafe for night driving.
I got into my car at night to drive home from a friend's house. None of my internal lights, with the exception of the clock and radio, would come on. Driving at night without being able to see your dash instruments is not easy. I am told it has to do with a short in the power distribution box.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo. While driving at an unknown speed, the interior lighting and headlights suddenly shut off. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v261000 (exterior lighting). The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.
Interior lights, headlight warning on light, and cabin illumination light failed.
This morning at work, i got out of my 2005 chevy aveo and shut the driver's side door as usual.i heard a "plink" noise, and discovered the door lock had collapsed into the inside of the door.i don't see any recalls on it, but i can't help but wonder if any other aveo owners have had this experience.
The locking mechanism on my 2005 chevrolet aveo has been getting stuck. It does not open manually, it will not unlock with the key inserted on the door, nor will it unlock when i am inside the vehicle. The only way to open my door is with the remote.i fear that in the event of an emergency i will not be able to exit my vehicle in time. There is also the fear that i may become stranded because the batteries in the remote has died and i will be unable to open the door even though i have my keys.
2005 chevy aveo, both of the inside door latches broke. They seem to be made of plastic and broke very easy.## vin failed ##
The lock cylinder fell into the driver side door. Also the inside lock peg fell in too. Now i can't open my door from the inside.
The entire lock of the driver side door fell inside the door when i tried to unlock my door. First i tried to fix the problem myself, but simply could not repair the problem. However, i researched the issue online and saw that many, many others have encountered the same problem before with this model. Naturally, because i would like to be able to lock my car door, i took it in and had it fixed for $160. The customer service rep just smirked when i told him what happened and said that we must've pushed the key in too hard "or something like that". I was not happy about the cost, but i paid. However, just two weeks later, the same problem occurred with the passenger side door, which i rarely unlock with the key. Apparently the dealer does not know what causes the problem. Fortunately i was able to fix it myself this time but had to take the door apart, but it was time consuming. It is vexing to me that chevrolet must realize there is a problem, but does not seem to want to fix it.
This morning i walked out to my car and found the lock to my car was punched into the driver side door.

While driving down highway i heard a clunk in my driver side door.when i got to my work and got out to lock the door, the lock hole was empty.

I arrived at the gas station to fill up and when i attempted to open the gas cap shield, the mechanism jammed and i had to pry it open. Then a few moments later, when i attempted to lock the door from the outside, the entire locking mechanism on the driver's side fell inside the interior of the car door. I have contacted the dealer and was told to bring it in. However, until i do there is no way to lock the door!

For the last two years at random times when i start my car, the brakes will not work. They can not even be pressed down. Whenever this happens, a corresponding weird revving that causes the car to lunge forward in such a way that it doesn't usually also happens. I parallel park on a street daily, and one morning when this happened ended up hitting the car in front of me. Usually the problem stops happening after driving for about 1/2 a mile, but it is pretty scary trying to drive without brakes to get to that 1/2 mile mark. Especially since whenever the brakes won't work the car also seems to accelerate on its own. I have tried to get this fixed multiple times but it always stops happening by the time i get to the mechanic and i've left my car overnight at a mechanic twice and they haven't been able to recreate the issue. I can't part with my car for an entire week so that this problem can be diagnosed.
Yesterday, i took my 2005 chevy aveo lt (53,400 mi) into the lavery dealership in alliance, ohio, for replacement of an extended warranteed abs sensor.when they removed the front wheels, the brake pads literally fell off.the pads had rusted off the backs of the pads!the mechanic said they would not have had to have been replaced (the pads were still a full 1/4" thick) except for the fact they rusted off the backs!!!)these are gm part #96475176, acd#171-0877, gm daewoo, made in korea (i still have the old parts). They are cheap quality and could have cost me my life had they not been discovered! as the mechanic explained to me, the dangeris if one of the separated pieces of the brakes slipped and moved forward, it could immediately lock the brakes!dealer replaced the front brakes at my expense. The abs brake warning light had never come on.
05 chevy aveo vehicle brake pedal does not work when going anywhere after it has been parked long enough to cool down. I even let the car warm up for 15 min and still no brakes for about 2-3 miles brake pedal extremely hard to push down. Problem has went on for about 6 months now no leaks brake pads are good etc. Mechanics said they have no idea why the brakes fail to work. I almost ran over a little kid yesterday.
While pulling out of parking spaces (usually), the brake will not go down. I have to push the pedal with all my strength to get the car to stop. Luckily it always happens in parking lots so the car is only going 5mph at the highest. The dealership said that the brake line had a leak in it. They replaced the line, but the problem still occurs at least once a week. I had them look at it a second time and they said that their machines weren't showing any type of warning about the problem.
Car type:chevrolet aveo 2005model: ls sedan with 14" wheelssince i purchased this car it has exhibited vibration in the front end and steering wheel while driving (above 50 mph) as well as vibration while braking.car was taken into chevy to be repaired.car still vibrates.upon further research i discovered that many others have this exact problem.chevy has been unable to fix this problem.significant vibration while driving and braking (especially) is a safety hazard.since chevy is either unwilling or unable to fix this serious problem i'm hoping the nhtsa will investigate this problem.
Dt*:the contact stated that the brake pedal was mushy, and when it was depressed, lowered to the same point as the accelerator pedal.this caused the contact to accidentally apply pressure on both pedals.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the dealer noted that the rear calipers were not adjusting.the dealer lubricated and adjusted the calipers, which did not completely fix the problem.updated 8/16/2006 -
I was traveling approximately 35 to 40 mph on a straight road.the vehicle in front of me stopped about 75 feet ahead of me.
Son going to work and steering locked up going into a turn causing the car to go straight into a power pole.son had to be extracted out of car and life-bird into hospital with facial laceration, broken an displaced elbow an slight concussion.accident was in the morning and that afternoon was a recall notice on the car.son was lucky, very lucky just to have these injuries.car totaled.
Lane change resulted in steering failure and roll-over of vehicle.the right front tire was flat after the accident. Was the accident caused by the steering or the tire? driver escaped with bruising only. Seat belt held.general motors has been notified & is investigating.
I have had many problems with the steering and suspension in this vehicle.i had to replace the tires at less then 16,000. The main problem is that whenever i go over any bumps the car squeaks and makes a grinding sound.chevy said that they had tightened something in the front end to tight at the factory and that they had 3 or 4 aveos come back with this problem. They loosened they two pieces but i still hear the squeaks and they tell me that there is something in the back end that is grinding but it is a manufacturing defect and that they cannot do any thing.and they hope it doesn't do anything. If it does as long as it is under warranty they will fix it. But i would hate for something to break and me be going 70 and it break.
My 2005 aveo died on the 80 freeway at 65 mph. There were no warning signs. Diagnosis:idler pulley snapped in two causing severe engine damage requiring new engine to fix. Very dangerous tohave your car just die on a fast moving 4 lane freeway. 60,455 miles on vehicle at the time.
2005 aveo lt ~ day or night the safety headlights (headlights / other) will just shut off for no reason after being on for less than an hour. ~ it's not fun driving on i-95 here in east central fla. Dt*:the contact stated during a rain storm today water entered the vehicle on the driver side around the dashboard and pooled underneath the driver seat.an appointment has been made with the dealer for inspection later today.
Body rust, all around the doors. And trunk lid..and have had my timeing belt pully fixed after 42,000. No damage under warranty.now my clock light is out...what do i do..trade it off...

Every few thousand miles i have to get my car realigned.this problem is costing me in fees and new tires.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo.after the vehicle was taken in for service, it began making a lot of noise.the contact returned the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not determine the cause of the failure.however, they discovered a screw glued to the front suspension.the contact took the vehicle to another repair shop and they stated that there was a weak strut mount in the front suspension.the contact continued to take the vehicle back and forth to the dealer because the bolt could have loosened and caused a crash.the dealer finally inspected the vehicle and reordered the parts for the repair.the failure mileage was 41,000. Updated 1/6/09 the consumer was told a main connection point bolt on the crossmember was stripped and very loose.updated 01/14/09.
I bought the 05 aveo on nov 15, 2006, i have experienced front end shaking at speeds of 50, the dealership replaced the engine and transmission mounts. The problem is better but still there. Also have had front end noise like creeks over bumps and making turns, the dealership replaced the bushings, the noise went away for a couple of days but came back twice as bad, took the car back to the dealership now am waiting for new bushings to be ordered."with the hopes that it will end the problem" as per service manager.
Nothing happened, but i saw that the chevrolet aveo's status was deemed, "recall incomplete," and i wanted to know what i should do with the car; if there are any repairs that need to be done or if repairs cannot be done. I don't have any photos because i don't understand in depth why this vehicle was recalled, but i wanted to know if this is very concerning or not.
Timing belt idler pulley failure plastic breaks apart. Damaging internal parts causing engine to stop running. With loss of power steering power brakes

The contact owned a 2005 chevrolet aveo. While pulling into aparking space she noticed there was a sudden increase in enginerpms. The engine roared loudly and immediately, the vehicleabnormally accelerated at a rapid rate of speed, crashing front end into a vehicle to her right. The vehicle bounced back at theimpact and swerved to the left, crashing into a jeep. The vehicledid not stop despite the contacts several attempts to depressthe brake pedal. The brakes would not respond and the contactwas thrust back into her seat. She continued to depress thebrakes until finally the vehicle slowly coasted to a stop. Therewere no injuries, however the vehicle was declared as destroyedby her insurance company. The failure mileage was approximately4,029. Updated 4/30/10 updated 09/16/10

After making a right turn the engine went to full throttle, i applied the brake with both feet on the brake peddle and the car was still moving forward. I applied the hand brake and the car stopped. I then turned off the key to stop the motor.
My 2005 chevy aveo rpm's stick and will not be forced down by de-acceleration or hitting the brake.this has been occurring on an irregular basis since purchase (august 2005).i have had the car back to the chevy dealer at least 5 times for the same reason in addition to other times when the dash board light warnings come on. The dealer can not recreate or fix. The dash board light did come on back in june 07 re: electrical and the fix to the electrical issue did for a few months fix the rpm sticking.however the intermittent rpm sticking has returned (jan 2008).the rpm's stick usually between 35 to 65 mph and in any type of weather.usually when just starting home from work or on highway driving.
My 2005 chevrolet aveo accelerates or maintains very high rpm's with no pressure on the gas pedal. This has been occurring since my purchase of the car, on an irregular basis. Sometimes it will continue for weeks at a time, sometimes there is no problem for weeks. This problem makes the car extremely dangerous to drive, necessitating very heavy brake use and frequent shifting into neutral (automatic transmission) to try and control the acceleration. I have had the vehicle in to the chevrolet repair department four times, but it will not show this problem when they test drive it. Chevrolet has replaced one metal washer on the accelerator cable, replaced the atmospheric pressure sensor, and installed a mini-computer which was unable to record the problem. Chevrolet seems only willing to make the cheapest repairs possible, and it will be close to two years now that i have had to deal with this uncontrolled acceleration.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal failed and would depress to the floor whenever the vehicle was driven downhill. The contact was able to slow the vehicle down by applying the brakes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and the failure was unknown. The contact also stated that the seat belt material began to get fuzzy and would get caught in the retractor. The dealer stated that the seat belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 20,000.
Upon coming home we pulled into the driveway and removed the right foot from the accelerator and started gently breaking as approaching the garage.as nearing the garage the engine quickly accelerated to maximum.maximum force was applied to the break pedal and the engine shut off inches from the front of the garage. We will be taking the vehicle to the dealership today.
2005 chevy aveoi believe my accelerator became "stuck" while driving on the interstate - cannot confirm but when i was exiting, it was extremely difficult to stop and was redlining while at a stop.i turned the corner and the car accelerated up to 50 with no foot on the accelerator nor on the brake. (50 was as i would "let it" go). I was able to make it home, but redlined again when i put it in park. Was to take it in, redlined immediately at ignition. My dad slammed on the accelerator pedal and it stopped. He drove it to the mechanic, and said it drove "fine." the mechanic was unable to recreate the scenario and said the computer did not register a problem and therefore they are unable to fix anything until it happens again or gets worse.drove the car on short distances again for less than a week. At that time, the battery light came on and steering was horrible - (power steering out?) made it less than 10 miles home, when the car died. Would not turn on, made clicking noise.tried charging the battery, was able to make it to the mechanic again...where they said a belt had failed. It's the belt that affected the alternator's ability to charge the battery and the power steering. There is also a transistor that went bad.relatively cheap to fix, but i had my 1 year old son in the car when the car was accelerating on it's own. Not safe!other than that, i have not had a single problem with my aveo.
Crack developed in the upper left of windshield was not caused by a stone or anything else.dealership is saying it was caused by the windshield wiper.it started beyond the wiper range.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet aveo.the contact stated that the vehicle would hesitate when changing gears and in addition, the heater was inoperable. The contact would also smell smoke coming from the vents sporadically.the dealer and a local mechanic were unable to diagnose the failure.the manufacturer was not contacted.the failure mileage was 93,000 and the current mileage was 105,000.the vin was unavailable.

2005 chevy aveo hatchback/all electrical. Electrical windows will roll down and then completely stopped working. Car has never been in an accident and has never had any damage. Bought car brand new.
I have taken my car in several times to see why there is such a bad shaking when i reach speeds in excess of 55 mph and there seems to be no reason after balancing my tires, on top of having all replaced and allining the tires there is a horrible shaking of the steering wheel and a very loud noise like a roaring oise in the back of my car.also i have a huge crack in the windshiled that i thought came from a pepple or something hitting the windshield however there is nota dent so to speak or any marks that would indicate a rock hit it, the crack starts uder teh rubber lining and goes all the way down the windshield from one end to the other. Fb
My 2005 chevy aveo has 2500 miles on it and i have had to replace the front wipers already and have had the car for less than 1 month.the front wipers also have a bad time with making a clicking sound to which i have smelt a burning smell under the dash only when the wipers are on. This has made it hard to see on the highway and almost caused a wreck when i smelt a smoke smell.
Summer 2005 the driver's side windshield wiper stopped working during a rainstorm while operating the vehicle leaving my visibility extremely impaired. Upon subsequent examination, i noticed that the nut holding the wiper to the post had loosened and backed off.this stripped the mating groves off both the wiper arm (cast aluminum) and post (soft metal).even after re-tightening the nut, the wiper was unable to move because the wiper arm and post were too badly damaged; all of the groves were entirely removed for the cast aluminum wiper arm.i was unable to go to a dealer to have this repaired.i drilled a keyway into both the wiper arm and post.i filled the keyway with a portion of a large paper clip.the damage remains this way currently.summer 2005having experienced the problem with the aveo 2004 (above) i tightened the nuts on both the passenger and driver's wipers on my aveo 2005.january 2007the driver's side windshield wiper stopped working during a snowstorm while operating vehicle leaving my wife's visibility extremely impaired.upon subsequent examination, i noticed that the nut holding the wiper to the post had loosened and backed off even with re-tightening this nut in the summer of 2005.this stripped the mating groves off both the wiper arm (cast aluminum) and post (soft metal).i have taken this car to the dealer to have both the wiper arm and post replaced.i am currently waiting on parts to have to repair made.--after searching the web i discovered that someone else had a problem with their driver's side wiper arm nut coming loose.http://www.epinions.com/content_160219565700.
