While stopped at red light, our 2004 chevy aveo was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling about 25-45 mph, which propelled the aveo into the car in front of it.during the crash, the driver's seat moved backward into about a 45 degree angle and locked in that position and providing my daughter no protection against whiplash.she received injuries to her neck and abdomen, which would have been much worse if she had not been holding on tightly to the steering wheel.she was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, and the aveo airbags did not deploy.

Electrical problem of all kinds, seatbelt light wont shut off, air bag warning light comes on won't go off, overhead light wont work, oil light comes on.take it to the dealer and they just reset it, then it happens again, and again, and again..started at 500 miles and continues thru today at 45000 miles...just a real pain, had to by one of the reset tool cause the garage started charging me $50.00 to check and reset it..

The vehicle was moving at a highway speed of approximately 65 mph, when it got into a collision with another vehicle. The other vehicle made an abrupt stop on the highway in front of the 2004 chevrolet aveo, which caused the aveo to hit the back of the suddenly stopped vehicle. Upon impact, the airbag did not deploy, which from my understanding should happen when traveling at that speed. In factit especially should have deployed, due to the fact that the impact damaged the front of the vehicle. My concern is that i have bought two other vehicles from the same manufacturer since my purchase of this vehicle. I want to make sure that my family is safe when riding in these vehicles.

Air bag light will not shut off.dealer has repaired it at least 4 times and now it is on again.he says they can't or won't do it under warranty, and told me it would cost about $500.00 this is just not acceptable.seems like there are lots of complaints about aveo air bag light staying on.there should be a recalland get them fixed.

During a 60 mphcollision vehicle rolled over, and the front air bags did not deploy. Consumer sustained injuries, and was hospitalized. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

I was in a car wreck where a woman shot across in front of me and i hit her in the passenger side of her vehicle and it was a solid impact for my vehicle at about 25-35 mph. And my airbags, both driver and passenger failed to deploy which resulted in my brother b myself and my sister. Being injured.

When will the drl module replacement be available? it's been over 4 months since this came to light! do i have to wait until my car catches on fire? gm recalls just says not available yet! do you have more power now since the ignition recalls?

Ignition switch is overheating. The longer the car is driven (10-15 miles)the hotter it is becoming. It heats up so much that the ignition key becomes quite hot as well...but the switch itself is even hotter. I fear there will be an electrical fire starting soon, and have already decided to stop at intervals to turn the ignition off so it cools down. It doesn't make any difference if it's driven fast or slow, driving still heats up the ignition switch. The only odd occurrence that might be somehow connected is the right turn signal bulb needed replaced since this started.

Ever since i bought the car new the clock has never worked right. It runs for a few hours, shuts off for a few hours. Dealer couldn't fix when under warranty because they couldn't make it repeat. Most recently, the electronic door locks have stopped working, both inside and with the keyless entry. I tried changing the fuse, but that didn't help.

When i first received my 2004 chevy aveo, the clock kept resetting.i have taken the vehicle in to the dealership and there is nothing they could do because the problem cannot be "duplicated".

Gm recall #14093 2004 chevrolet aveogm mailed a letter in july regarding this recall. There has been no follow regarding repairing the defective equipment.when gm was contacted, they advised to contact the local dealership. The dealership advised they have not received the parts or instruction from gm on how to repair the defective equipment.i have a chevrolet aveo with inoperable tail lights, front parking lights and instrument panel lights.i am unable to operate the vehicle at night. Can nhtsa assist with getting gm to repair the vehicles?

Received a recall notice for drl fire hazard. Called 3 dealerships in the dallas area to have the mosfet repaired. All 3 dealership deny any knowledge of the recall and do not have the parts in stock even if i did bring the recall notice in.chevy has sent 2 e-mails but they are the do not reply. We have a 2004 aveo and no light came on and at 61,000 miles my car just quit running in the middle of the road and had to be towed to the dealership the timing belt had broken and the motor was messed up also. I had to pay over $3,000 to have it repaired cause a belt broke. It messed up half of the motor and had to be replaced. Then a month later the lights on the dash quit working and they told me that they have replaced them alot for these cars and the wire harness is $1,200 dollars and i am paying more for the repairs then i have for the car. The clock light has never worked right since we got the car.so be careful and replace your timing belt early and don't have to pay all that money like we had to. I wish i have never bought the car now.

My 2004 chevrolet aveo has a problem with the ignition key getting very hot. I am worried of a electrical fire. My a/c went out due to a bad seal and i was told they had redesigned the a/c compressor. What are my options?

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that when the key was removed from the ignition, it was extremely hot. The vehicle was taken to multiple independent mechanics. The technicians were unable to properly diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000.

My aveo is supposed to have a warning light to come on when the engine has to be serviced. Apparently, this light did not come on for the warning that there was something wrong with the vehicle that i need to find out about. Driving to me(the vehicle was driven by my child of 28 years with a 3 month old in a rear car seat) to pick me up to take me to work the car just stopped. In the middle of ongoing traffic. Thankfully the car was not hit but the police as well as my brother (whom was on his way to work) were able to get the car to the side of the road. Her father (he was called) showed up with a tow on its way to take it to my mechanic. It was determined that the timing chain/belt went. Because the car was in motion it also caused the bending of 2 pistons. In order to fix it properly this mechanic was not able to do so. I was informed however that all aveos from this model or year has shown to have the timing belt/chain to malfunction between the mileage of 40,000- 80,000 miles. So, i am trying to find out if there is a recall on first the warning light not indicating there was something wrong and second, the timing chain/belt malfunctioning repeatedly between the miles of 40,000-80,000 miles. I love my aveo because it is the perfect size, excellent on gas and being a 2004 model there is only about 66,000 miles or so on it. I am truly missing my aveo and would appreciate it if someone can help me get it back to normal so i can take it home. I have to say that this is my first real car and i would rate it in the top ten vehicles to purchase for its total economical qualities. So, please let me know at your earliest convenience.

2004 chevy aveo purchased december of 2004.clock resets itself, interior dome light works when it wants to, dash lights have blinked on and off twice, radio has turned itself on and off twice, excessive crank trying to start vehicle, doors do not completely unlock, windows do not always go up and down, alarm and keyless remote entry blew 2 - 10 amp fuses, dealership put in 20 amp fuse, still isn't working properly, vehicle is presently in shop for same issues for the 7th time.dealership can't get the car to duplicate the problem.all of this started the month that i bought the car.it is getting worse and i am extremely afraid of having the car catch on fire.

I have a 2004 chevy aveo and a 2005 chevy cobalt my ignition switch on my aveo does the same thing as cobalt but aveo not recalled itook cobalt in dealer replaced ignition swtichtook aveo in for recall for drl switch dealer wants over 300.oo dollors to replace ignition switchi will be driving along at different speedscar will shut off starts back upwhen i put key in have to movekey several times to start cardealer says no recall on the aveofor ignition switch but it is doing the same thing as my cobalt did is this a different switch the aveo has done this several times over the last year or so.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo. While driving approximately 45 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road. The engine was restarted after the first attempt and the vehicle resumed normally. The failure recurred nine times on separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing and they were unable to detect a cause of failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 39,500.updated 07/25/12*ljthe consumer stated the dealer kept the vehicle for eight days. Updated 07/25/12

Basically i am writing because gm issued a recall in june 2014 letting me know that my car has an issue which may lead to a fire in my car. The problem is that a year has passed and the status of that recall still is "general motors will provide its plan for remedying the defect as soon as it is confirmed." i honestly feel they have forgotten all about it. I don't think this should be an issue that should take such a long time to get fixed.

I purchased thisused 2004 chevy aveo from tony honda end of july 2010.it ran good up until 10/12/10 when all of a sudden the hold button light flashed along with the check engine light...the car literally dropped to like 5 miles an hour and sputtered all the way like it was dying....thank god that for some reason, i decided to take my grandson to school so i was in the school zone and not on the freeway which i normally would have been.i swear, i would have been dead had that happened at 60 miles an hour. I have called chevy and they do not have a recall.

One day, i was in a customer meeting and my factory installed car alarm just started going off. Nothing around it, no wind, etc. Now it has gotten to a point where i can not use the alarm and the drl and dashboard clock are constantly going on and off. I have read many similar complaints on autoforums.com regarding lots of electrical issues on the chevy 2004 aveo ls.

2004 chevrolet aveo.consumer writes in regards to several vehicle repair problems.the consumer stated there was aburning odor coming from the vehicle. The dealer was unable to find a problem. A repair shop, replaced a fuse, due to know battery power.

Cd player gets too hot.it has melted a cd.i run it for 15 minutes and you can't even touch the face of it or the cd itself.i've contacted the dealership and they say its normal.i believe that with the clock, the cd player, and the ignition (& key) getting pretty hot that it's an electrical problem.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that the key became stuck in the ignition switch. Due to the failure, the vehicle could not be turned off. My 19 year old daughter just arrived at her mothers house, parked the car and came inside. When we started seeing, and smelling smoke. So we went outside to investigate the problem and saw smoke pouring out from under the hood as if there was a fire contained under the hood. So we called 911 and suddenly we heard a loud pop and saw flames on the hood. We proceeded to get a water hose to pour water on the car until finally the firemen arrived. The car still remains in front of her mothers house, if anyone would like to take a look at the car. The firemen deemed it to be a total loss. I would like any information for recalls on this make and model.

First thing that went wrong with the car is the clock for no reason at all it changes to 12:00 it does it when the car is on and running it also does it when you first turn the car on.this has been replaced once and has failed a second time again.second is my gear shifter i have an automatic and it sticks in park all the time and all year long the first time it happened i was sitting at a gas pump and i was completely stuck and it wouldn't move so i had the car towed to my dealer and they fixed it but it stuck 10 + more times since 5 times i took it to the dealer and 3 times it was repaired.i bought my car in 2004 and too this day it still sticks i actually have parts being ordered again to get it fixed.third is my key and alarm i can't use my security alarm on my car because when its set on it goes off about every half hour for no reason. Fourth is my head lights and brake lights.i was traveling in a big city buffalo when all three of my brake lights stopped workingi went to an auto shop to get them replaced and they replaced them right there and the new ones wouldn't even work.my headlights go off when ever and turn back on after awhile.even when i'm driving down the street but the dealer claims they can't find anything wrong with that part.fifth is my ball joint was defected and i went threw 4 pairs of tires within 2 years before my dealer realized what that problem was. Sixth both the rear strut holding mounts just fell off car and my struts went threw my back bottom trunk. The dealer said he never seem anything like it.the right side went first and that was fixedthen about a week later the left side wenti replaced everything brand new and it happened again a third time the left strut and holding mount failed. I actually have parts ordered for that as well right now.a smaller complaint is the cig. Lighter outlet doesn't work, and that's being replaced for the second time.

Dt*: the contact stated after the vehicle had been parked for two months, the battery light illuminated.the contact replaced the battery, then while traveling 35 mph the vehicle stalled without warning.the vehicle was towed to the dealership, who determined the generator needed to be replaced.

Horn malfunction while vehicle was parked and ignition was off. Had to pull fuse associated with horn/rear-defroster to stop horn from going off.

While in my driveway, i went to turn ignition on, and car would not start. Radio turned off. It was not until i floored the pedal that the gas and motor started. It happens off and on. Also the key and ignition switch entry area are extremely hot. I am worried this is in fact one of the ignition problems that chevy did not list or is refusing to fix. Please help,. It is not the battery.updated 12/8/2014

Key gets really hot and after i drive it for a while and shut car off and go to turnit back on after it sits for just a few minutes it will start but it will keep dyingand then i have to let it sit for at least 20 to 30 minutes before it will start i guess the ignition has to cool down and it will be fine until it gets hot again i am afraid of carcatching fire.

Dt:caller says that while she lets the vehicle warm up it makes a boom boom noise from the fuel line or pump. Caller says it will do this until it warms up and then it stops.dealer says it is a characteristic of the car. Manufacturer said the same thing. Caller says the key gets hot while it the ignition.

I purchased a 2004 chevrolet aveo.i commute 2 hours one way to a job site.the ignition switch and the ignition key get progressively hot the longer i drive this car.the service dept measured the heat.on a 45 minute drive, the ignition switch temperature was 111 degrees, the key was 94 degrees.i am concerned of a possible firewithin this ignition of the vehicle.other aveo owners i questioned are experiencing the same problem.i am extremely afraid to drive this car with the commutes i have to make to work.the dealership service and gm are passing the buck on this.will it take the loss of lives in car fires before something is done with this car??i surely do not want to be one of their fatalities with the extensive driving i do.this is not a normal condition and is presenting a possible hazard.

Air bag indicator light came on in mid january 2008 and has remained on.the car just went out of warranty in aug 2007.since i have been deployed for 15 months, i was not able to discover this problem while it was still under standard warranty.after contacting chevrolet about several issues with the brakes and air bag light, they instructed me to get it diagnosed.the diagnosis revealed an ecw failure but nothing could be found wrong with the brakes.recommendation from chevrolet servco is to have ecw fixed.after the occurrence with the brakes, myhusband began driving the vehicle.

I was driving and the car just stopped .. If i was driving any faster or if there was a car behind me i would have been killed!!!!result was the timing belt.the car only had 52000 miles. I contacted chevy and all they could offer me was a loyalty discount on a new car... Which i probably would be entitled to anyway .. I just found a letter from gm indicated that the required replacement of the timing belt was at 60k miles... Well my car didn't make it to 60k .....so they know that there is a problem and continue to deny it!!

I was driving approximately 25mph when suddenly i heard a strange, loud rubbing/ clattering noise coming from under the hood. I pulled the vehicle over and turned the engine off. My boyfriend, who is a mechanic, looked at the engine and said the timing belt was broken. The vehicle would not restart and had to be towed. Now i am finding out that this is a known problem in this particular 4 cylinder gm vehicle. This engine is an interference engine. This means that the only thing preventing the valves from striking the pistons during vehicle operation is the timing belt. If/ when it breaks, it causes catastrophic engine damage, often requiring engine replacement. One or more of the timing belt pulleys are made of plastic. When the timing belt pulley breaks, shards of plastic snap off and become lodged inside of the engine, rendering the engine useless. Also, at high rate of speed, the valves become bent when the belt/ pulley(s) malfunctions. This is both costly and dangerous to the consumer, and the manufacturer should have made all pulleys and moving parts on the engine out of metal instead of plastic.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo. While driving 45 mph, smoke appeared under the hood. The contact stated that the coolant pump housing fractured and coolant leaked out, which caused the smoke. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not under warranty and suggested taking the vehicle to a dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

As i began to accelerate onto the highway, i felt that my car was not picking up, i could only get to around 40-45mph on a highway that is 65mph. I nearly got rear-ended by cars flying up on me and i quickly pulled off to the shoulder just in time as the power steering also went out and the car appeared to have stopped running. I could not get the car to start again. The diagnostics came back that the timing belt had gone and it could be fixed for anywhere between $800 to needing a brand new motor. This floored me as i always had the oil and fluids replaced and the car only had 84k miles on it. I began to research the aveo and bam, there it was, over and over again on-line. Owners all complaining of the same problem with their aveo. The timing belt on the aveo, especially the 04-07 models go and will require anywhere from a major fix to a brand new engine. This is a big problem on a little car. I went on craigslist to look for a new engine, but instead found 10 aveos in one hour... That were being sold for parts because their timing belt went! please take a look at this problem, i believe there is a major problem with the aveo deserving of a recall, and owners should be made aware of this serious problem and the persistent need to have their timing belt replaced or face a total engine replacement. I could have easily been rear-ended or worse because of the loss of power and power steering. Thank you.

My stepdaughter and her friend were traveling cross-country from california to illinois.car had just been checked by a mechanic prior to trip and said was ok.on i-40, about 40 miles west of albuquerque nm, she realized the car was getting warm, then they saw steam from hood, check engine light came on.she immediately pulled to the side of the road and called me, in illinois.then she called aaa for towing, and was towed to galles chevrolet in albuquerque.the next day they diagnosed total engine failure due to overheating; cause of failure likely a broken thermostat housing.i searched for this issue and found many similar complaints in edmunds forum; this certainly seems to be a common problem.in the end the girls were safe, thank god.not only was this a very expensive incident (~$5000), but it could have been a very serious safety issue, leaving two young college girls stranded in a remote desert location on a hot day, very vulnerable.the next person this happens to might not be so fortunate.i urge you to take action to require gm to recall and fix this issue.thank you.

I am on a fixed income. I bought this car used with 22,000 miles on it which i intended to take care of and drive for years to come, in fact into the ground. The manual i received with the car indicated that the timing belt should be replaced at 100,000. I live in a rural area where you really need a vehicle. I had driven to another town for a medical appointment. While traveling at 55 mph the car just died in heavy traffic in a 55 mph zone. I was lucky that a good samaritan helped me out of the dangerous condition i was in on the road.my vehicle had 65,321 miies on it.i had to have the car towed to a dealer. It was determined the timing belt broke causing valve damage. I was told it would cost $5,000 to repair it which is what i paid for the vehicle. I did not having $5,000 so i junked the car. This ordeal caused significant problems for me financially, emotionally and physically. I was 62 at the time.the website carcomplaints has 56 similar complaints related to 2004 chevy aveos.all of the timing belts failed below 100,000 miles.there are similar complaints for the 2005 chevy aveo.why wasn't i notified about this problem so i would not lose my shorts on my vehicle.i could have been killed.the event was terribly frightening.i suffer from heart failure.my new car payment is very hard to deal with on a fixed income.i took excellent care of the car.i should have been contacted about such dangerous condition.i would like some answers.

The timing belt broke in our vehicle while we were driving. The car made a horrible racket, then completely lost power before it died completely, when it broke, it bent the rods and pistons in the heads. Now just two weeks ago, it has done the same thing. Chevy needs to make a recall on this because its going to end up killing someone and this isn't the only aveo to have done this.

I was driving down the interstate on my way home to knoxville from athens, tn, and i heard my car make a funny noise, and then i heard a loud noise, and the engine began to smoke, i pulled over off of the interstate onto an exit and then the car basically died when i made it to the side of the road. The smoke was white at first, but then it turned black so we ran from the car. The car proceeded to catch on fire and by the time the fire department arrived it was too late. I had a lot of clothing and personal items in my car, and my boyfriend's laptop and really expensive textbooks were in the car as well. The car is completely burned except for parts of the trunk and there was nothing that was salvageable. I was looking online and found out that my car has been recalled because of fires, but i had no idea because i bought the car two months after the recall was announced. It doesn't really matter though, because there is no remedy for the problem. I now have no car and i am a college student and i need a car so i don't know what to do. I'm not sure how to go about contacting the manufacturer about my problem. I am very upset that this has happened, and it would be really nice if someone could help me fix this.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that while traveling 55 mph, the timing belt failed. The contact stated that the failure caused damage to the valves. The contact spoke to a dealer and was told that the belt and valves would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage and current mileages were 140,000.

Driving at 55 mph the car felt like came out of 5th gear.i checked to make sure the car was in gear.pushed the clutch in (very tight).the car was loosing power but tach was still at 3000.i coasted to the side of the road and the car had no spark.lights still worked.i had the car towed and found that the timing belt failed which took out the water pump and damaged my head.there was no warning at all. At this time i have been told by mechanic and 2 chevrolet dealerships that this is a common occurrence.thank god it was 5:15 am and not a lot of traffic on the road.

Timing belt snapped at 73k miles while driving 70mph on the highway. Total loss of power: steering, brakes, and gas pedal all not responding. Manually managed to coast to a stop on the highway shoulder with my emergency lights on, and without hitting or being hit by anything else. I'm alive and so is my passenger, but i fear we could have died on that day. Related tsbs and nhtsa below to augment reporting this problem.----tsb #3936 / nhtsa id #10020573 states that this can happen prior to 60k miles to others as far back as 2006; total engine loss due to damage from the belt at high speed not reported or fixed. Suggested maintenance also is not acceptable for this part: # tsb #060601021 -- timing belt inspection, maintenance, worn, wear. (nhtsa id #10020843, october 01 2006)

In mid-february after one of our many blizzards, my wife was driving her sedan home. There was a pile of snow on our street that had hardened over. I guess she miscalculated its height (and hardness) and when she went over it, the car lurched up and she heard a loud grinding sound against the undercarriage. The engine started shaking immediately and within seconds died. She called me out and i took a look at the car. It was dead. I walked over to the ice and it was rock hard, so i tried to take a shovel to it and immediately emailed my neighbors to be careful of it. I am not mechanically-inclined, so when i googled what might've happened, i saw several comments that it could be as minor as a damaged oil pan that causes the engine to shut down. Figuring it might be something minor, i called aaa (had to wait a few days since their lines were down) and had the car towed down the street to a service station. I was not expecting the assessment from the mechanic: apparently during the collision, the timing belt slipped and caused the pistons to bend. This would cost several thousand to fix. Unfortunately, this car has an "interference" design which is prone to extensive damage when this happens. Many aveo owners have complained about this online. The worst part about all of this is that even though it happened during a collision, our insurance chalked this up to "wear and tear" and we were forced to junk the car. Our car had less than 60k miles on it and we kept it in good condition. This should not have happened. This should have either been handled through a manufacturer recall or my insurance should have treated it as the collision it was and covered it.

While backing up my vehicle i shifted the transmission from drive to reverse. The engine immediately accelerated to approximately 500 rpm. I immediately put my foot on the break, shifted to neutral, and turn the ignition to off. I was able to immediately restart to vehicle with no problem. This has happened before two or three times. Onetime while the vehicle was in drive and i had to press hard on the break and shut off ignition to avoid an accident. I seems like it mostly happens when it is cold outside ( in the 30"s f) . I think this is an unsafe situation and an accident waiting to happen.

Timing belt broke while on a major highway doing 65 mph. Causing the car to shut off and leave me stranded when it broke it crushed all 4 cylinder heads.

I was driving my car on my lunch break, and had just made a left turn onto a major highway.about 5 seconds after i made the turn, i felt a jolt and heard an odd grinding sound.my car lost power and all the dashboard lights came on.i was fortunately able to safely steer the car from the left lane to the right shoulder before it finally stopped.i had the added fortune of breaking down in front of a repair shop.it was determined that my timing belt had broken and had bent all the valves in the engine.it took 5 days and $1875 to fix.i have seen dozens of other complaints from aveo owners about timing belt failures long before the recommended 100k replacement mark, but chevrolet refuses to acknowledge the problem and won't issue a recall.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that the service engine warning lamp illuminated several times and then turned off. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 30 mph, the vehicle was shaking violently and stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and upon pulling over, the contact noticed flames and smoke was emitting from under the hood near the front passenger side. The driver and the front passenger exit the vehicle. The fire was able to be extinguished by the fire department. A police report was filed. The driver and front passenger did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 14v261000 (exterior lighting). The vehicle was not inspected or diagnosed. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

This is the same vehicle as nhtsa incident 10393028 (snapped plastic thermostat housing unit). Driving on a multiple lane freeway at ~65mph and the timing belt snapped (high pitched whistle like the car window was slightly open). Immediately lost all speed control and began rapidly decelerating. Thankfully, was in right hand lane and was able to coast off the next available exit. Likely would have been killed had i been in any other lane in morning traffic and lost control of vehicle. Once stopped, car could not be turned back on and would not move until turned into acc mode where it finally allowed me to shift into neutral. Had to be towed, eventually to the dealership. Engine damage was catastrophic and required extensive and expensive repairs (3 weeks and approximately $2,700). Snapped timing belt also bent pistons and valves and required the water pump to be replaced.this is clearly a known issue that should be dealt with by chevrolet, rather than hiding behind the 60,000 mile replacement, which is laughably low for a timing belt. Further - my timing belt was supposed to have been replaced at 50,000 miles and thus not only did a chevrolet dealership lie to me, they put my life at risk by knowing this was an issue that would inevitably occur long before the next scheduled belt replacement. This car has been meticulously maintained with oil changes every 3,000 miles and only 5,000-10,000 miles driven/year. There was no reason for the timing belt to snap other than being a faulty part that should have been recalled.

2004 chevy aveo timing belt failure at 47,000 miles, and at 102,000 miles approx. 53,000 miles after the previous failure.both failures have caused severe engine damage.i have been advised that the most recent failure could result in an entire engine replacement.

Chevy 2004 avero timing belt broke which also damage engine had to replace valves which cost over $1100.00.this incident happen when my wife was coming from therapy on a highway (bqe), in brooklyn when out of no-where with no warning signs, the car just stop, which could have cause a unthinkable events of accidents.thank to my higher power , that no one was hurt or even worse, fatally injured.i had the engine re-built, hopefully this would never happen again, because i will always have the timing belt inspected ever time i change the oil to avoid any failure or unwanted injuries or death due to gm lack of not recalling this vechicle because my 2004 avero only had 58,000 moles only, when the car manual indicates that it should be replace every 60,000 miles. *ln

My car is a 2004, chevy aveo, with23,100 miles.the temperature gage showed the engine to be overheating on my way to work on october 29, 2008. There were no warning lights, only a rambling engine sound and a burning type of smell.the reservoir tank was half empty and there was visible signs of leakage around the thermostat housing.the replacement of the thermostat housing remedied the failure.however, the thermostat housing from the factory is originally encased in plastic housing, but the chevy dealer retails the part with metal housing.the metal housing indicates chevy's awareness, yet there is no existence of coverage on the warranty or any issuing of recall of the part.

Timing belt failure at highway speed.almost got into accident.chevy aveo only had 65,000 miles.

First of all i learned on the internet that the chevy aveo is not a good deal when you are looking for a car. The first time the timing belt broke and spend a lot of money and now the thermostat housing broke because is made of plastic. Like other aveo owners say, this car have to be recall, because all the problems it have.

Was sitting at a stop light when the engine all of the sudden quit.listening to it while trying to restart the engine, my first though was timing belt.after getting the vehicle home and inspected, the timing belt was tight but not turning anything, upon further examination it was discovered that 14 of 16 valves are bent although the crank shaft turn the timing belt is not.this is a problem that gm knows about with the 2004 chevrolet aveo and will not stand behind their product when they know they have a problem.#1 no clearance between piston and valves. #2 faulty timing belt.

The timing belt broke on my 2004 chevy aveo. I understand that this is a problem for alot of people. I contacted my local chevy dealership and they said i would have to replace the engine.

Timing belt failed, causing engine to fail while in traffic. Engine was destroyed by the timing belt failure.

I was driving home on the highway in my 2004 chevy aveo. Suddenly i noticed that i was unable to accelerate and that i had lost pressure in my brakes. I had to pull over to the side of the road and put on my hazard lights. It was very busy traffic and i narrowly avoided an accident. My engine would no longer start.after having my car towed to my mechanic i discovered my timing belt/chain had broken and damaged my engine and that it will have to be replaced. Car only has 55,000 miles.

I was driving at 65 mph and the car stalled and had to cross two lanes of traffic to get to the side of the road. The timing belt has been the source of my problem, it stripped out the teeth on the belt. Why would chevy use a timing belt when all of its other cars use chains, why not modify the engine they bought from daewoo and put a chain on it.

2004 chevrolet aveo. Consumer states the vehicle stopped in the middle of traffic on the highway *tgwthe consumer stated the timing belt failed.

The plastic thermostat housing completely snapped while driving only 35 miles per hour. There are mulitple chevrolet aveo owners that have a car between the years 04-06 that have had the same problem. Not only is this a safty hazard, but a realitive costly fix.

My daughter's first car purchase...what a disappointment. Bought the 2004 chevy aveo used with 80,000 miles on it on a saturday.it broke down sunday.timing belt broke and caused severe damage to the engine...now it needs to be replaced.always do your research...a quick search while watching the car get towed showed that this is a huge, wide-spread problem that gm has decided to do nothing about.dealership working with us to resolve the problem with a swap in vehicles.

2004 chevrolet aveo broken timing belt. Consumer states that dealer stated that the problem was under warranty and replaced the valves because they were bent. Consumer would like to know why the timing belt was not replaced.the consumer stated a tsb had been issued for the timing belt problem.

Engine stops running.

I have a 2004 chevy aveo that only has 65k miles on it and gets regular oil changes. I went in and had my transmission fluid flushed and was told the car looked great. Drove a few other places, and was on a steep hill, turning around (as i have done many times before), and all of a sudden smoke was pouring out of my engine. I parked immediately. My thermostat housing piece (plastic) had cracked in half and was spewing antifreeze. In the two seconds the car was on, i lost half my anti-freeze and my engine compartment is covered in anti-freeze. Further, the part is hard to find and will take several days for a replacement. This part broke out of the blue, in the middle of routine driving. There's no way to drive it until it's fixed - the car will have to be towed. I hear that the part is now being made in aluminum and that this is a common problem with this car (every 50-70k this piece just inexplicably cracks). I firmly believe that this should be part of a standard recall. Had this piece broke at any other time (such as five minutes prior, when i was on the freeway) there would have been dire consequences. Further, had i attempted to drive the car any further, i could have had an engine fire or several other problems. This has resulted in three days of time and energy to get this repaired (hopefully to be completed tomorrow). This plastic piece is nothing but a safety hazard and i consider myself lucky to have escaped in one piece. I'm yet to find out what kind of damage the anti-freeze will do to my car in the time it takes to get the car into the shop to be fixed up.

My 2004 chevy aveo has had more problems than you can imagine. I had to replace the timing belt twice, severe engine damage both times. Ocean chevrolet and gm were absolutely no help. Rotors had to be replaced at 48,000 miles, an evap leak for another $600.00. Both timing belt repairs were over $2000.00 each. I have put more into repairing this car than i paid for it. Got runarounds from the dealer and gm and wouldn't recommend a chevy product to anyone.

2004 chevy aveo with 41,000 miles. Timing belt broke, bending all of the valves in the engine. No prior problems with this car. Replaced the timing belt, will now have to replace the head on the engine.

Engine stopped running. At first i was told it was the timing belt but that was not supposed to be changed till around 60,000 miles. The car has only 48,000 miles on it. I went and bought a timing belt and a water pump because i was told that if i changed the belt i may as well change the water pump also. After a good deal of money i was told it was an engine failure because of a "valve ring" had worn away. I need to put a "new" engine in it at considerable cost. I have been laid off for over a year and this has created a hardship for me. I can not afford another car payment and the cost to fix this car, although cheaper than buying another, is still a lot of money for me. Not only is it hard enough to find work it is nearly impossible without a car. I believe this failure should not have happened at 48,000 miles! i am 55 years old and have owned chevy's all my life. Not happy.

2004 chevy aveo timing belt broke causing valves to break and many other related parts at 60000 miles.my mechanic said this is common in these cars and he doesn't understand why there has not been a recall.had i been aware of the problems with the timing belts going at 40-60000 miles it might only have cost me $50 to repair instead of $950.00.it is my understanding in my research since this occurred by speaking with mechanics ect.all are in agreement they don't understand why there is not something being done on these belts.we were stranded, cost of towing and lengthy and costly repair for what i am finding out to be a common problem with this car and the 2004 year.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo. The engine warning light would intermittently illuminate on the instrument control panel. Also the vehicle would shimmy while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and a tune-up was performed.after the repair the failure resurfaced so the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. She purchased a fuel cap. The repair did not remedy the failurebecause the vehicle exhibited a no-start condition. A mechanic stated that the timing chain fractured. No repairs were made.the current mileage was approximately 63,000. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

It's the 3rd time it has happened. It occurred twice with my daughter and her baby in the car, today when i picked my kid up from school; the car cut off while in motion. I have changed throttle position sensor, crank sensor, cooling temperature sensor, 15 amp fuse twice, replaced the head gasket, sealant, egr valve and egr gasket. Cleaned off all oil residue on engine, on head gaskets, on spark plugs. Recently replaced thermostat, radiator, timing belt and have also did a transmission oil change. The car is not working appropriately.

I was driving down the road and smelt burning fluid and thought it was another car on the road. After the car wasn't close to me anymore i smelt the same odor. I looked down at my thermostat to see my car was in the red, no check engine light had come on or anything.i pulled over and noticed immediately that my thermostat housing(which is plastic and a poor design) had cracked in half right along the seam.i have read that this problem has lead to very expensive repairs due to the fact that it warps the heads right away and it can be easily prevented by a better quality part and / or design.this could have been a very dangerous problem if i had been going down a hill, far from a parking spot, on the freeway etc. Do something about it.

My 2004 chevy aveo broke down in the middle of an intersection at 47,652 miles.the car wouldn't start and couldn't be moved while my daughter and grandson were stranded in traffic.the problem turned out to be the timing belt which should have lasted 2x the mileage.then engine rattled after that repair.on 17aug08 my car started smoking from under the hood.when i opened the hood, antifreeze covered everything.i took it to the dealer who told me the belt tensioner was bad causing the rattle and the thermostat housing cracked causing the antifreeze to spew upward and cascade over the top of the entire engine.

Car: aveo 2004- 4d. The ac got damaged, then the blower. The car got overheaded and stopped working. $1,361 worth of work was done (machine work, head gasket set, gasket sealer, timing belt, sparks plugs, timing belt tensioner). Two weeks after the car started overheading again and had a strong smell of gas. The mechanic recommended to buy a clip to adjust the gas hose!! and to put water to coool it down... The problem continued. I got tired and took the car to another mechanic who awknowledged the first mechanic assembled some things backward. Less than an hour after picking up the car from the second mechanic and after i parked it...the car burst on fire... It is gone...gone!

Purchased a 2004 chevy aveo from mccluskey chevrolet in reading ohio-on december 12/01/04. Vin # klitd526x4b196935. On december 24, 2004 our car of almost 4 weeks old broke down on us at approx: 2:45 pm. We notice smoke coming from the engine and a gurgling noise. My husband lifted up the hood and there was a milky substance on the upper left hand in front of driver's side under the hood. We called and had the car towed on x-mas eve day. It had taken the towing service over five hours to tow our vehicle. We had to be inconvenienced and find a ride home. Then we did not have a vehicle until december 27, 2004 at around 5:55pm. My husband called the dealership and talked to the sales person who sold us the car "he basically told us that they are not responsible for the vehicle now and it is the hands of the manufacturer. My husband has made several phonecalls to the service dealer who has the vehicle for the repair they stated several times to him on the phone that they did know what the problem was with the car. Still no answer. Nothing to date has been done to the vehicle to date.

Thermostat housing busted on the middle of highway causing car to immediately run hot.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)my name is [xxx], i have a 2004 chevrolet aveo ls with a 1.6l engine.on may 21 of 2010 when i was on my way to school lodi ca, to sacramento ca, the thermostat housing cracked. I was unable to make it to class and had to pay over 100.00 dollars to get my vehicle towed. When i got the car home i noticed that the thermostat was made of a "plastic" material. How could something that flows coolant and holds such an important part of the cooling system be made of "plastic." i then did some research on the part, and finding out that the thermostat housing has been replaced with a factory correct replacement. So this is not the first time it has happened to this vehicle. My vehicle is at 125,000 miles and has been well maintained, all necessary tune-ups, oil changes, trans. Fluid changes, coolant flush, plugs, ect. I also know this is not the only aveo that this has happened to multiple times. This is an ongoing problem for the aveo. Once again, why is something so important made of "plastic?" i feel that this is a safety hazard, for example, if the engine got to a higher temp. Than it did, i would be looking at a warped head, are even worse, a cracked block.that could cause major damage and even a wreck. I also feel chevrolet should take responsibility in this poor judgment of a part. A recall should be issued and a better quality part should be used. I am now forced to replace this part without any assistance from chevrolet, and it is not cheap. I am a college student that bought this car for the economical and what i thought was "reliability" value.if there is anything you can do i would appreciate it. I and a lot of other people would feel a recall is due for the thermostat housing. [xxx]

Smelled smoke got almost home saw smoke white in color opened hood and saw the housing on the thermostat was blown and fluid spraying out with steam.

We purchased a preowned chevrolet aveo within aprox a year (low mileage still under warranty, also purchased extended warranty & gap insurance), taken very good care of it, including routine services as needed. Suddenly 3 weeks ago without any warning at all the engine blew.. No steam, no gage warning, no warning lights, nothing. Suddenly the engine light came on & within less than 30 seconds engine blew while driving with no warning.we had it towed to a mechanic who determined that the thermostat had went bad causing the engine to blow. We decided to have it towed to the dealership in order to process our warranty and possibly trade it in.. The service dept at the dealership states that without taking apart the motor all they can truly say is the car got hot and the engine blew. Once again, i stress- no steam, no raised temp in gauges or check lights came on. We had no warning or notice of any problems with the car.after 3 weeks the car is still sitting unusable at the dealership service dept until we decide what we are going to do, as we wait on having more diagnostic work done to file with the warranty. We decided to do some research on the car and found hundreds of complaints identical word for word on what happened to us- all stemming from thermostat and engines randomly blowing up without warranty. We have printed all of these out to present to chevrolet & our dealership where our car currently sits unusable. We have already contacted chevrolet, & our warranty company in hopes to find a resolution and we wish/hope a recall will be issued for the many cases like ours.i am willing to provide any proof if needed. This car has many complaints and commonly this complaint regarding sudden engine blowing up.. The part that has us upset is that the manufacturer and dealerships seemingly aren't taking responsibility for this and many people are losing money and possibly safety in their cars because of this issue. Please help us.

While on my way home, i noticed that my vehicle startedsmoking from the hood and without warning the "check" dash lights came on.i noticed that my car started slowing down and i coasted it to the side of the road.at this point my vehicle cut off and wouldn't start.once, my vehicle was transported home, i had my mechanic to come out and inspect my vehicle.my mechanic looked under my hood and saw that my vehicle had lost alot of antifreeze/coolant.he looked to see what cause this and realized that the thermostat housing unit had busted-actually it was split in half.my mechanic also stated that the busted thermostat housing had caused the leakage of the antifreeze/coolant.my mechanic informed me that the thermostat housing had to be replaced.after having the thermostat housing replaced, my mechanic tried to start the car, but it wouldn't turn over.i had my vehicle jumped, and even the battery inspected but it wouldn't start.in addition, the starter, timing belt were inspected as well and were in good condition.please be advised that i only have 53,000 miles on my vehicle.my mechanic did a thorough check of my vehicle and realized that some water had leaked into my oil and that antifreeze/coolant had spilled into an engine valve.from my own research, i've found that chevy has had numerous problems from the 2004 chevy aveos-thermostat housing units from other customers.in addition, originally the thermostat housing was plastic, but chevy changed it to an aluminum one because the "plastic thermostat housing" that originally came with the vehicle was extremely faulty.it is very dishonest and a shame that gm/chevy never notified me that i needed to bring my 2004 chevy aveo in to get the plastic thermostat housing replaced with the new aluminum one.i bought this vehicle brand new in 2005.it was chevy's responsibility to notify me of this situation.also, from what i've gathered, the plastic thermostat housing was unsafe.

Thermostat housing busted for the 3rd time!!!

My 2004 chevrolet aveo's thermostat housing busted today at 67,000 miles.this resulted in over heating the motor and dumping about one gallon of anti-freeze on the roadway.it turns outs this part was made out of plastic.a replacement aluminum version is now available by the dealer for $95.

I own a 2004 chevy aveo.the thermostat housing broke.you must replace the entire thermostat and the thermostat is not broke it works fine.there was no warning and the engine did not overheat.i do not think a part should break apart and if it does you should not have to replace a good part.the oil light flickered so i checked under the hood and the housing had steam coming out.

2004 chevy aveo thermostat housing - cracked and overheated.tons of references on internet on this same problem.

I was driving my 2004 chevy aveo (with 70k miles) and without any warning the engine starting making a lot of noise.i was about a block from home, and when i pulled in, smoke started pouring out of my engine.the thermostat housing had busted which is apparently a very common complain with this car, and the manufacturers are clearly aware of the issue since they have made the replacement part out of metal.i don't know yet what kind of damage the engine has sustained.

Vehicle towed to dealership oct. 2009 no compression repair clean carbon from engine. Had timing belt replaced at this time as preventative maint. Engine failure on highway march 2010. Idler pulley broke bent all valves and broke 1 need to replace engine. Have read many complaints on line same issue with 04 & 05 chevy aveo

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo. While driving various speeds, the vehicle shut off without warning. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The current and failure mileages were 13,400.

Timing belt failed at 70,000 miles causing severe engine damage.timing belt failure is apparently an issue with the aveo as gm issued a service bulletin on this in oct 2006.based on internet search of aveo problems, chevy is having problems with the aveo's timing belt failing even before the recommended service date.

On my daughters 2004 chevy aveo i had thetiming belt, water pump, and t'belt tensioner replaced at 59826 miles, per manufactures recommendation.about 20000 miles later the idler pulley broke, destroyed engine.gm has not recommended replacing this part per their maintenance schedule , why not?

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo. The vehicle was purchased in november 2007 with 61,000 miles. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed a dealer and an independent mechanic who stated that the timing beltfailed and also caused the engine rods to break. The repairs were at the owner's expense. Transmission computer also failed on four separate occasions. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 99,999 and the current was 103,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo.the vehicle started for 30 seconds and then shut off.the vehicle failed to restart.the repair shop stated that the timing belt failed and caused the valves to bend.the current and failure mileages were 49,000.

Timing belt failed, causing engine to fail while in traffic. Engine was destroyed by the timing belt failure.

The timing belt on my 2004 chevy aveo broke at 55,000 miles. Gm recommends that the timing belt on aveos be replaced at 60,000 miles. There have been numerous reports of aveo timing belts breaking between 50,000 to 56,000 miles; however, gm has not posted a warning on their website, nor have dealerships been informed. A closer inspection of my car revealed that the idler pulley, which is made of plastic, melted and molded itself to the engine block, which is what caused the belt to break.

Fuel injector stuck open making a loud tick.gm told me it was a lifterengine is dohc.

Engine destroyed by timing chain failure. Timing chain failure resulted in damaged pistons and valves. Vehicle had 95,000 miles on it.

I am driving my 2004 chevy aveo at 35 miles an hour, all of a sudden it died. I have 54,000 miles on it. I had it towed to a mechanic and they said that the timing belt broke and now i need to replace the engine. In my manual it says that timing belts need to be checked at 60,000 miles. I was told by gm that even the that is the case i am out of my warranty so tough luck. I have found about 300 complaints about the same thing happening while searching online. I don't know if there is anything you can do about this but i am trying anything i can to get my car fixed.

On thursday morning 28 june 2007 the timing belt on this chevrolet aveo broke, resulting in catastrophic damage to the engine.the vehicle was towed to radley chevrolet, where this diagnosis was rendered. Radley chevrolet held a new car owner's orientation class at which their services and hours were discussed.class topics included timely oil and filter changes. No mention was made,or emphasis placed, on the need for inspection of the timing belt at 30,000 miles or its replacement at 60,000 miles.when i mentioned this recently to the radley chevrolet general manager he responded by telling me that all chevrolets made in the usa use timing chains instead of timing belts. Hence his staff would not think to emphasize the need to inspect and change the timing belt.it appeared that this lack of concern or training may have extended to some maintenance personnel.i was not advised of the need for this inspection at either of the two oil changes, performed by radley around the 30,000 mile point.the timing belt failed at an odometer reading of 60,331 miles.the 331 miles beyond the 60,000-mile recommended replacement point suggest that the odometer has an accuracy better than .55%.considering the technology used to measure speed and mileage in vehicles sold to the public it is not likely that any are so accurate. Had observed that in driving from alexandria, virginia to fredericksburg, virginia she was often among the slowest on the road in spite of speedometer readings that suggest she was driving well above the posted limit.on several occasions she had her husband record the elapsed time between mile-posts and found that they were traveling around 5 to 6 miles per hour less than the speedometer reading.this amounts to an odometer reading from 6.25% to 8.5% greater than actual distance traveled. Hence at an odometer reading of 60,331 miles, actual mileage is between 56,560 and 55,203 miles.

-the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo and stated that since she purchased the vehicle the passenger's side seat belts never locked correctly in place.she took the vehicle to the dealer, andthey replaced the seat belt, but she believed that they switched it from the front to the back.currently, the seat belt has been locking when anyone sat in the back. Also, the dome lights iwere constantly burning out.this had occurred about three or four times. In addition, the clock didnot workwhenever she set the time, it would change on its own accord.similarly, the key lock on the driver'sside fell through the door panel. The dealer repaired and painted the door the wrong color, and they painted over the door handle. Just last week finally, the tension pulley fell off while she was driving on the freeway. They told her this was normal wear and tear on the vehicle and refused to make further repairs.the failure mileage was 32, and the current mileage was 60,750.

Timing belt broke prematurely at 54541 miles. Gm owners manual says to change it at 60000 miles. Car was worked on by gm under there special bulletin for this problem. However the car had to be returned to the dealer, this time it 56870 miles on it when the ses light came on i took the car to aamaco on saturday because the dealership was closed some of the codes were my transmission i was told it wasn't going in 4th gear and burned my transmission fluid. So i had my transmission serviced at my expense by the dealership. The dealership told me that gm had the part #'s listed wrong and they had installed the wrong parts when they had worked on the car the first time. So now they put in new parts and the car still doesn't run right. They tell me i need new plugs and wires and that the cost would be 300.00. I toldthem no way i was given them 300.00 for 4 plugs and 4 wires. So they ended up changing the plugs for 32.00 and i changed the wires myself. At 56987 miles car goes back to dealer third time, ses light on, cause : intake manifold tuning solenoid disconnected and timing belt to tight. At 57012 miles a c/s ses light on, cause; low efficiency the dealer replaced the catalytic converter due to the timing belt. Car has never run right after these attempts of repairs and now sept. 2008 ses light comes on again the has 66200 miles on it. Took it to the dealer and they told me i needed new wires and plugs again and that they could not do anything if i did not let them change them. This is just another case of gm not standing behind there products that fail.

When starting my 2004 chevrolet aveo after itwarmed upand sat for roughly 5 minutes it will not always start on first turn of key. Occasionally, rough idling on cold start, coolant smell coming from heating vents only when heat was on, a light blue/green residue/powder has been found on all four vents. At 5600 miles coolant level at 1/2 factory level, and traces of coolant were found on 2 of 4 spark plugs by independent mechanic. Coolant fumes are noxious, and it seemed i had a cold i couldn't get rid of all winter. As of 4/13/2005 the vehicle has been to 2 different chevrolet dealerships 4 times,. 3 times at dealership of purchase, and 1 time at another dealership.nothing could be duplicated, and car was checked out. Everything was okaythis time.dealerships checked spark plugs, did pressure tests, and scanned for codes. At this point the second dealership was looking into the residue/powder.

No crash, no injuries; incident began with regular maintenance of vehicle after i purchased the aveo used; my fuel economy continued to decrease from about 33 to 34mpg down below 30mpg even though i was continuing to drive the same way every week. Economy was about 33-34mpg at 26k miles and eventually at 28-29 mpg by 34k miles. After changing fuels, adding injector cleaner, checking tire pressure weekly, checking spark plug wires with no obvious damage or abuse to any component, i finally pried open the black air cleaner box by breaking two of the rusted bolt/flanges on the cleaner. The air cleaner was almost completely plugged.i changed the filter and the fuel mileage was back to 35 to 37 mpg. But unfortunately i had to break two bolt/flanges on the cleaner box to get the cleaner open. I noticed one other flange was already broken. I believe that the original owner never changed the air filter.the filter is inaccessible once the bolts are rusted to the nuts.i asked the dealer about thisand found i cannot get reimbursed since i damaged the cleaner.i believe that the dealer would not be able to access the filter either. I did notice that the bolts are steel/iron because of the rust color and the flange has a captured nut made of brass with bluish-green rust. The use of two dissimilar metals under the hood of a car where salt and corrosion are highly likely is extremely dissatisfied to a consumer.i have to pay money out of my pocket for a filter box replacement when the filter box should have never been engineered this way. This seems like this issue should be an emissions issue since my fuel economy was severely affected.please let me know what my options are.

During a recent oil change maintenance procedure i was informed that the service to my air filter was not possible due to the inability to remove the screws/bolts/fasteners that could not be removed.

I have a 2004 chevy aveo that was purchased brand new.since it was first purchased the clock has changed time by itself and the gear shift gets stuck in park.

While pulling out from a stand stillconsumer attempted to drive up a slight incline and depressed the accelerator, but vehicle would not go up the hill.after about 30 secondsvehicle accelerated and climbed the incline.this problem occurred numerous times in the last nine days. Dealer examined the vehicle, and claimed that the air conditioner was the problem.

Spring in gas cap breaks preventing owner from removing gas cap and refueling vehicle. Gas cap replaced by dealer and new one broke again within two weeks.

I purchased my 04 chevy aveo on june 20,06. Five days later the brakes were metal to metal. My car was not safety inspected before the sale. Since then i have taken the car back to where ipurchased it several times and have even had the service manager to ride with me to show him that the brakes are sticking. (the calipers need to be replaced) tim marburger chrysler/dodge tried to say that is was a warped rotor due to excessive mountain driving, my car was only driven 7 miles one way to go camping and 7 miles back once a week. I would hardly call this excessive. The first tank of gas i got the mileage of 284 miles since 06/20/06 until now 10/10/06 my gas mileage for a tank of gas is now 210 miles. Nobody at the dealership has offered to fix my car. I have been cussed, talked to like a dog. The general manager denny fruith slammed my car door and proceeded to argue with me in the front parking lot in front of the showroom doors. Refused to fix my car and it was still under warranty, the dealership put my lug nuts on so tight that they could not be manually taken off. The vice president of the company mr. Felix mcclat refused to fix my brakes and also refused to even let me come to the dealership and have them loosen my lug nuts. And the car was still under warranty. The brakes on my car will put themselves on without me pressing the pedals. And when you do press the pedals you can be going down hill and take your foot off the pedal and the brakes grab and the car will come to almost a complete stop...down hill. All this was shown to the service manager david anderson and the car has not been fixed yet.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo. The contact stated that after refueling, fuel began to leak out from under neath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the carbon canister vent solenoid valve was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reccured two years later. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 34,673 and the current mileage was 58,000.

Major fuel leak on my 2004 chevrolet aveo. Left me stranded. Pumped out 9 gallons of gas in 20 miles. Luckily no fire. Found the plastic retainer holding the main fuel line cracked and allowed the fuel line to come loose spraying gas over the bottom of the car. They will put another plastic retainer on the line but how long will that last? consider this a major defect and could lead to vehicle fires which could be deadly. I was lucky but someone else might not be. I do not like the fix. A better form of line clamping should be used. I notified gm and there is no recalls at this time. They took the information and put it on file. I would like to be compensated for towing and the lost fuel. Gm will not do this. Note:the car is at knebel auto in highland ill not the dealer because it is out of warranty.

Ses light comes on not describing the problem. The fuel system is malfunctioning, gas escapes somewhere, not getting the actual gas mileage for the vehicle. Fill up on wed of one week, use only 34 miles, must fill up by tuesday of next week, the brakes make loud noise like brakes are going out, more of steel rubbing, pulls excessively to the right. Took vehicle in for repair on the brakes, was told dust was on the rotors, cleaned out, problem still exist, now a buckling is felt when brakes are applied. As for the gas problem, car was left overnight, i told the dealership, i do not want my car back until they find the problem.. Check the fuel injectors, the gas tank, check the fuel pump, check all the components of the gas line.. I do not smell gas, there is no gas on the ground. I have a loaner car for now. As for the ses light, i shoulddescribe what the problem is so that the dealership service dept can go straight to the problem. The car pull excessively to the right and left, this too will be checked out by the dealership. No update resolution so far.will keep you posted. The clock malfunctioned. A new clock was replacedthe car was purchased new, aug 2003, with 6 miles on the odometer. Today, 2 years, 2 months later, i have 9766 miles on the odometer and my car has been to the service dept 7 times for malfunctioning problems.

The gas cap broke weeks after purchasing the vehicle.the consumer was unable to remove the gas cap to fill the tank. The dealer stated that the spring broke..the dealer took it off so that the consumer could place gas in the tank.the consumer was unable to get another cap because the dealer was unable to obtain one.the right rear passenger seat belt retractor was defective and a recall was issued, however no parts were available.nhtsa recall 04v407000.

The vehicle was not repaired. The contact extinguished the fire. A police report was not filed. The contact sustained pneumonia. Medical attention was required. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

There are no events leading up to this problem. The lock on the driver's side door has fallen into the door. This makes the door impossible to lock or unlock from the outside. When the window is rolled down the lock also locks. The problem has not yet been solved.

I have a 2004 chevy aveo that was purchased brand new.since it was first purchased the clock has changed time by itself and the gear shift gets stuck in park.

The vehicle was parked and shut off when a child was able to shift the vehicle into gear without applying the brake. The vehicle began to roll forward until crashing. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed and was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 120,000.

Driving back to saint louis missouri from lake wales florida when timing belt broke on my 2004 chevrolet aveo. Engine died and from what i've read on the internet the engine design on these cars is an "interference" engine which means when the timing belt breaks it basically destroys your car. I cant understand why a company would knowingly sell and not warn customers that catastrophic engine damage will occur from a simple belt breaking on these particular engines.

Taking of from a stop sign, i heard a quick whirring sound and the car died. I pulled off to the side of the road, where i tried to restart the car to no avail. The car was towed to a certified mechanic. The mechanic found that the timing belt had broken prematurely. It was not due to be changed until 60,000 miles. (originally 90,000 in the mechanics book, amended by gm) the timing belt failure caused the valves in the engine to be bent and the engine rendered useless.

When starting the car and then trying to shift from "p" to "d" will not move have to turn the vehicle off put key in shift lock hole and then shift to "n" and then depress the brake, start the vehicle then shift down to "d" or up to "r".

During cold weather the automatic transmission refuses to shift into 4th gear for the first 1/2 mile. The "hold" button is not on.

While driving on i-94 made a sudden decrease in speed from 70 mph to 60 mph and car swerved out of control, and the only thing saving me from flipping the car was after market rims and tires.thump sound, sounded like a flat tire, checked all the tires and they were fine.checked under the hood, engine was titled to driver's side, after inspection on side of expressway found out that the half shaft was completely destroyed as well as transmission mount bolts.there is no reason for these bolts to fail if the car is driven respectively.

Car went through garage door.iplaced car in park to leave car momentarily. I t did notgo into park properly and car proceeded forward through garage door. The cup holder had a coffee mug with a handle in it.i am assuming it stopped car from goinginto park fully. I had left car and shut door when car began to go forward through garage door.i jumped in and stopped car or it would have proceeded through a wall.it caused about 2000.00 worth of damage to car and door.this happened twice. The second time my husband was driving the car. He stopped car and proceeded to place car into park. It would not go completely into park.the same coffee mug was in holder.no damage happened this incident.we both witnessed the car refusing to go into park the second incident.

Car stalled on a busy 4 lane interstate with my son inlaw daughter and granddaughter in vehicle without warning. The car barely coasted enough to make it off the highway into emergency lane. Car fail to start again. Had car towed to chevy dealership. Service department called and said the timing belt had broken. The car only had 59,000 miles on it. I stated to the service manager that the belt should still be under warranty and was disappointed that about it. He agreed also that the belt shouldn't have failed within that amount of mileage. He gave me the number to call chevy to see what could be done to solve the problem. They refused to fix the problem. So now i'm stuck with a pile of junk because they used a cheap made belt that has prematurely failed on countless 04 & 05 aveos enough to have a website called aveosfail.com. I read stories that stated these cheap belts failed anywhere from 18,000 up. Mostly where in the 59,000 to 65,000 mile range. Us tax payers had to bail the company out why can't they take care of this problem? that might be one of the reasons they had to be bailed out in the first place, because i would buy a stubborn mule before i ever buy another chevy! the mule would be more reliable. The car was towed back to my house. I took apart the timing cover to find the belt wasn't broken but the ribs on the belt were basically falling off the belt, like they had come unglued. Why should we all suffer because of their poor belt design or manufacturer flaws.if they don't step up and takeresponsiblity they should be ashamed and shouldn't be bailed out by the tax payers period.

The consumer was involved in a vehicle accident whereby the seat belts did not work.the driver seat belt broke and a toddler was thrown to the front seat.after complaining to the manufacturer about the failure, gm still did not cooperate.the consumer just received a recall on the seat belt.nhtsa recall 04v407000.

This is just one problem...the car had major problems in the past like dying totally on a highway but that's not my concern right now. The back seat belt is locked up & it will not retract. I have a child so it's really inconvenient.

Nhtsa campaign number: 04v407000 both side seat belts in back still locked and non working after repair. Repair only worked temporarily now they do not work again. Repairing did not fix problem. Gm refuses to fix correctly.

Driver seat belt buckle froze upand the buckle would not engage.this buckle has exhibited difficulty in the last couple of months.many times would have to push belt into slot 2x or 3x before the buckle would catch.never thought it would be a issue.thank god my daughter wasn't driving to school and the thing locked up orsomething.now, it will cost approx. $200to have just the buckle replaced at the original dealership i purchased it from.alli can say is that there are too many problems with the aveo seat belts starting from 2004.i liked this little car but i am done.i think i'll stick with dodge.this is just my opinion.unfortunately, there are over 1800 complaints on this vehicle between 2004 and 2011; the most being 2004 and 2005.i think my issue just slide past them.

2004 chevy aveo rear seatbelts do not work . Safety recall issued and a guide to repair seatbelts was installed as part of the recall. The seatbelts once again are broken twisted and can not be used!i can sometimes fix one seatbelt but within a week it is not able to be used again!my daughter was squeezed by the seatbelt when i applied the breaks. It was a very tight squeeze but i was able to get out of the car and unbuckle her quickly so she had only very minor injuries.i have had to drive without seatbelts for my children on many occasions or make them both use the middle seatbelt together. We were on vacation and were forced to drive home 12 hours without a seatbeltbecause of the product defect. It may sound like a simple thing to fix buy buying a new car but i simply cant afford it and i know many 2004 aveos were produced so please do something so that gm will correct the problem and no child dies as a result of this!

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo.the front passenger side seat belt was twisted from the base of the seat belt.the contact was unable to unwind the seat belt because it was installed incorrectly.the contact is able to use the seat belt, but it may fail in the event of a crash.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the current mileage was 83,182 and failure mileage was 28,567.updated 07/08/08.the consumer was rear ended and the seat belt didn't perform as designed until after the impact.the passenger was injured. Updated

We purchased this car from a used car dealership this year. The rear seat belts don't extend or retract. There was a safety recall issued on october 15, 2004 (recall # 04v407000). Chevrolet's recall center has told me it's no longer their responsibility to repair the rear seat belts, because although this is a passenger safety concern, this recall item is now in a, "closed" status.my questions is, "really"?!defective passenger seat belts are no longer chevy's responsibility after a certain time period? please look into this and please advise me as to what my rights are as a chevy owner.

Upon purchase the rear seat belt buckles were detected to be twisted and crossed over to be used.the buckles are very tight and cannot be uncrossed to be used this makes it very hard for the users to buckle their belts.the dealer ordered replacement buckles but replacements are same as original and gm informed dealer not to attempt anymore repairs they are to be left that way.

It would be hard for the consumer to unlock the rear seat belts from the buckle. Dealer was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Dt*:the contact stated the driver seat belt retracts slowly.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection and repair.

Recall 04069 2004 chevy aveo. I called service at andean chevy(cumming ga) to schedule this recall work. I dropped the car off in the morning and picked the car up that evening. When i picked up the car at no time did anyone ever mention to me that the recall work was not complete.this is a seat belt issue. Why was i allowed to bring in a car for a recall when the part was not in stock? andean knew exactly why the appointment was scheduled. Rather than be up front and tell me the work was not done, they allowed me to drive away thinking the work was complete, thereby giving me the impression the car was safe and seat belt worked.

Dt*: the contact stated the rear seat belt retractor locked in place.no passenger could be buckled on the far left or right of the rear seat.a nhtsa recall, # 04v407000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the seat belts: rear however, the recall did not remedy the problem.the dealership would not offer a second repair under the recall.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet aveo.the contact stated that the rear passenger seat belts were locked in position, and remained locked at all times.the manufacturer stated that they would not repair the seat belts because his vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 04v407000 (seat belts:rear).the failure mileage was 30,000.

Nhtsa campaign number: 04v407000 both side seat belts in back still locked and non working after repair. Repair only worked temporarily now they do not work again. Repairing did not fix problem. Gm refuses to fix correctly.

Consumer stated that whengetting into vehicle and sitting in the back seat and when putting the seat belt on there was no way to adjust the seat belt.instead the seat belt kept getting tighter and tighter.consumer took vehicle to the dealer, and they claimed there was nothing that they coulddo. This was very uncomfortable for persons riding in the rear of vehicle.

Overall, an excellent small car! my car has a brake problem when first started in the morning occasionally. There are no power brakes and you have to put both feet on the pedal to stop the car! knowing this(the pedal is super hard when you put your foot on the brake to put it in gear) i have been able to give myself plenty of room to stop and the condition has not caused an accident! this condition usually goes away after a few miles and the brakes return to normal!by the time i can get to a garage, everything is fine and it doesn't do it consistently! weather does not seem to be a factor and it only does it on startup after it sits overnight!

My passenger rear shoe broke in half. In the following months, approximately once every week to two weeks my springs and self adjust fall off. When the drum is pulled off they are either completely detached or hanging by a hair. They are not connected nor are they doing any good for the braking system. In the 7 months that i have had the car, i have had it worked on 18 or more times on the exact same brake.

Contact states; the brakes squeal and whenstopping the brakes don't work. When takingfoot off the brakes the car jumps, feels like thebrakes lock.the car jumps up nd down. Had vehicle in the shopat 4 different times for brakes problems. However, problem recurred.

Brake caliper broke while vehicle was being driven.vehicle was towed, due to saftey reasons, to the dealership that sold the car.car was bought 2 weeks prior to failure and had 12 miles on the car when purchased.car now has just under 500 miles.

Rear brakes locked on application, luckily right in my driveway. Released by rocking back and forth, only to lock again....pulled drums myself to find all four linings delaminated from shoes! phoned gm canada and got absolutely nowhere until i mentioned the fact that i carefully took pictures and it was lucky that no one was killed! having a sudden change of heart, they phoned my dealership and arranged for a free set of shoes, which i installed, since i live three hours from a dealership. I'm satisfied with the process, except for the fact that this could conceivably happen to any aveo at any time! mine had 70000 kms. (45,000 miles) on it at the time, 85% linings! have yours checked!! no dust in the drums, either. Scary!!

My vehicle will be driving fine and i will attempt to make a left or right turn and intermittently the steering wheel will lock up, all the lights on the dash board will come on and the car will stop! this has happened to me 4 times in 2 wks and dealer can not "duplicate my concern" i am still experiencing this problem. The vehicle has 600 miles on it, i drive 15 miles a day to and from work, no highway. Dealer can not find the problem and i am forced to drive this vehicle. It is a big safety concern because the car comes to a stop when ever it feels like it. Dealer just tells me "when it happens again give us a call", the same day i picked it up from the dealer after they could not find the problem, it happened again that night i called to report it to the dealer and he suggested i go to another dealer further away from me because they were closed for inventory. So i am driving this vehicle unsafely.

My chevrolet aveo pulls to the right, upon acceleration and driving at a constant speed. I made the dealership aware of the problem and they said that it needed an alignment. They gave it an alignment and it helped for a few weeks. Then the vehicle starting pulling to the right again.i took it for a second opinion and they said the vehicle has torque steering and with the way it is built it will drive like this.suggested welding weights on left side of engine to make it heavier on the left side, also suggested a wider tire, but they would need gm approval first.they also gave the vehicle an alignment.i still have this problem with the vehicle.

Thank you.

2004 chevy aveo. When driving vehicle in windy condition or near large vehicle(including pickup trucks and suvs) the vehicle's front end is blown very easily creating dangerous swerving and front end movement. I feel the vehicle is very unsafe to drive and needs safety testing done. Also, front end pulls hard to the left in all driving conditions. New tires have been added but did not solve problem. Front end also has bad bushings or struts. Car creaks when going over bumps or when pushing up and down on the front end.

I stopped at stop sign moved through intersection the suddenly dove to the ditch .i was moving at highway speeds on i75 5 minutes earlierthen turned on the side road s to my home .the rack and pinion broke in two sending me into ditch. If this happened 10 minutes earlier i would be dead.

Intro: make chevrolet model kalos 2004 [xxx]. Airbag warning indicator was on for several times (more than 10 times). A check was performed on 13 august 2005 and the only repair was to reset the signal from scan tool. The signal remain on continuouslybeing a dangerous situation, service shop refused initially to repair the faulty srsinitiating the corrective actions were delayed for 4 (four) months so on 07 december 2005 were replaced on my vehicle both side airbags module and the sdm (sensing diagnostic module). 2. Brake, power steering, coolant and clutch fluids and spark plugs were replaced later than normal maintenance schedule, and only after i submitted a written complain to the service shop manager. It supposed to be replaced at 30 000 km and it were replaced at 38070 km. This also it happened with the fuel filter, which had to be replaced at 45000 km, and it was replaced at 49200 km. 4.it was reported by the owner that ac is out of service at 49200 km (evap condenser found with a large crack and refrigerant fluid lost completely). According to maintenance schedule at 45000 km service shop had to inspect evap condenser from the conditioning system and the pipelines. The plastic thermostat housing completely snapped while driving only 35 miles per hour. There are mulitple chevrolet aveo owners that have a car between the years 04-06 that have had the same problem. Not only is this a safty hazard, but a realitive costly fix.

My brother died when his 2004 aveo crashed sideways into a tree. Traveling approximately 60-70 mph on i95 in fl. Troopers said he was doing speed limit and his car hydroplaned causing the vehicle to travel off the highway and into a small palm tree. His friend was ejected through the front windshield across the steering wheel from the passenger seat. This car is unsafe. Video @ www.thibedeauresearch.com.

There are no events leading up to this problem. The lock on the driver's side door has fallen into the door. This makes the door impossible to lock or unlock from the outside. When the window is rolled down the lock also locks. The problem has not yet been solved.

Dt*:the contact stated that the steering made a clunking noise while turning at various speeds.the dealership replaced the control arm, but the problem reoccurred.the manufacturer is designing a new control arm for this model year vehicle.

Purchased vehicle nearly new from a dealer in may 2005. Handling and steering were stable and predictable, but has deteriorated significantly since roughly 40,000 miles.i now experience severe sloppiness in the steering, excessive body-roll while turning and the car is buffeted in even light winds, especially at speed (55 to 65 mph) on highways. Under light-to-moderate acceleration, i occasionally experience strong torque steer while running over varying road surfaces or imperfections and will veer suddenly to the right or left.lower control arm bushings are severely worn and are to be replaced. These have been a premature wear item on this model's predecessor, the daewoo lanos. Compared to other vehicles, the early wear of suspension and steering components on this model is a potentially fatal shortcoming.

First, the struts came off, then the piece holding the air filter broke away, now the pulley has exploded and has destroyed the timing belt and serpentine belt.this car is junk made with cheap parts.not good for someone with children.*ln

Four days ago i received a letter regarding service that was required to be performed under the extended warranty agreement i purchased with my car.the service needed was on the timing belt.on sunday, two days after receiving the letter the timing belt broke on my car, causing further damage to the engine.my extended warranty ended at 60,700 miles and i currently have 67,000 miles on the car.the letter was too late in arriving for me to prevent this damage being done, as it seems that the timing belt was supposed to be replaced at 60,000 miles.the car is currently at the dealer with the engine having been sent to a "specialist" for further work.

My complaint involves a replacement timing belt manufactured by general motors detroit and purchased on my behalf from the parts department of steve rayman chevrolet on march 29, 2010 by ken black of fairground auto and body shop for installation on my 2004 chevrolet aveo.the replacement of the timing belt was routine maintenance and was intended to protect my auto from damage that might occur when a timing belt fails.at that time my car mileage was 69631.on october 1, 2010, this replacement timing belt failed after only 4327 miles and 6 months of service.a section of the teeth which engaged the timing belt separated from the body of the belt.the defective belt flew into my engine causing extensive damage.i had the vehicle towed to fairground auto where this damage was repaired at a cost to me of $2098.30.mr. Ken black advised me that since the belt was defective he believed that general motors should reimburse me for the repair.he took the belt back to steve rayman chevrolet where he showed it to the parts manager mike stewart who concurred that the belt definitely had a manufacturing defect and made attempts to get gm in detroit to stand behind the part and take care of my damages.gm refused to do anything.these details can be verified with ken black of fairground auto at 770 429 8473 as well as mike stewart, parts manager at steve rayman chevrolet, at 770 953 0100 ext 3047.

As soon as i started backing out of my apt. Parking place, the accelerator jammed sending my 2004 chevy aveo backwards into an apt. Across the street. The deputy estimated the speed at 40mph. My car was totaled. The damages to apt. Buildingrequired the tenants to move to another apt. That day. There was nothing i could do to stop it. I received minor injuries.

I was on the highway on my way to pick up my son. I felt the accelerator "clunk" and noticed when i entered the exit ramp that i was not slowing down. I applied the brake and as suspect the engine whined due to both brake and accelerator being pushed at the same time. I place it in neutral and came to a stop. I applied the parking brake and tried to dislodge the acceleration pedal. It didn't seem to move but when i put the car back into drive the problem had been remedied. I'm so happy that my son was not in the car and that i was on the highway and not in the city!

What's with aveo's passenger side windshield wiper? it skids off the window and wipes the trim. When i first bought my car i thought someone made a mistake and put on the wrong size. When they needed replaced, i replaced the whole arm with a set matching maker specifications. And made no improvement at all. The tip of the passenger side wiper still swings clear off the window. Did somebody make off with the designer's ruler? any chance they might give it back? i'd really like a windshield wiper that fits; don't really need one for the trim...

While consumer was driving on side the road front left winshield wiper came loose andwiper hit the left mirror, obstructing driver's vision. There was no injury.

The windshield washer did not work.the consumer has taken the vehicle to the dealer and they were unable to repair them.the dealer took the pump out gave it to the consumer and said they do not have any.the manufacturer told the consumer to take the vehicle back to the dealer and ask the dealer for a loaner vehicle.the dealer refused to service the vehicle.

The way that windshield wipers are designed they are allowing excess water to distort the driver's vision while driving in a rain storm.dealership inspected the vehicle for this issue andacknowledge the problem. Dealership is in the process of finding a solution.

Summer 2005 the driver's side windshield wiper stopped working during a rainstorm while operating vehicle leaving my visibility extremely impaired. Upon subsequent examination, i noticed that the nut holding the wiper to the post had loosened and backed off.this stripped the mating groves off both the wiper arm (cast aluminum) and post (soft metal).even after re-tightening the nut, the wiper was unable to move because the wiper arm and post were too badly damaged; all of the groves were entirely removed for the cast aluminum wiper arm.i was unable to go to a dealer to have this repaired.i drilled a keyway into both the wiper arm and post.i filled the keyway with a portion of a large paper clip.the damage remains this way currently.summer 2005having experienced the problem with the aveo 2004 (above) i tightened the nuts on both the passenger and driver's wipers on my aveo 2005.january 2007the driver's side windshield wiper stopped working during a snowstorm while operating vehicle leaving my wife's visibility extremely impaired.upon subsequent examination, i noticed that the nut holding the wiper to the post had loosened and backed off even with re-tightening this nut in the summer of 2005.this stripped the mating groves off both the wiper arm (cast aluminum) and post (soft metal).i have taken this car to the dealer to have both the wiper arm and post replaced.i am currently waiting on parts to have to repair made.--after searching the web i discovered that someone else had a problem with their driver's side wiper arm nut coming loose.http://www.epinions.com/content_160219565700.

Takata recall. On october 13th 2018 i was in a horrific accident while on the highway was an single car accident my tireshredded but still maintained air and my airbags didn't deploy on either side and i got a broken nose and a few facial fractures. Now i have severe headaches everyday since then.
