The dash on my 2009 chevrolet avalanche has cracked in two places. One over the gauge cluster and one crack over the passenger air bag. This problem has affected more 2007 + silverados, tahoes, avalanches , escalades and more. If the passenger air bag deploys with the broken dash, it will send plastic shards flying through the cabin.gm should recall the defective dash and replace them.
Nothing seriious has happened yet, but i now have a crack in my dashboard and am concerned about the airbag deploying properly.there have been many gm car owners with the same complaint and gm is doing nothing about it.
Pulled out from the parking lot at work onto the road, after traveling approximately 100' the steering wheel airbag and side curtain airbags deployed. The truck did not hit anything nor was it hit by anything.

Takata recall... It is irresponsible for a recall with this high level of danger and liability to stay unresolved with no date to resolve the problem. I am appalled that a recall is identified may 2016 and still sits with no resolution. I have not received anything stating gm's coverage of liability should an accident occur with these inflators. This is a huge risk in my opinion to my husband and myself as users of this vehicle. I expect an expedited repair. I don't feel it's fair to the risk of our lives. We are long time gm product purchasers and hoped to purchase gm for the next vehicle. This is the first time we experience any disregard to correcting a potential major problem.

I purchased the 2009 chevrolet avalanche new in october 2009. While in warranty i noticed the dashboard was cracking and took it to the dealer, four stars auto, in henrietta, texas. At that time i was told they would order a new dash board and replace it. I took the truck in for replacement of the dash board on the scheduled date.after the truck was out of warranty the dash board cracked again in the same place. I suspect the dash was repaired and painted and not replaced, buti have no proof so i did not contact the dealer. Since that time i have learned this has been an issue with other owners of gm trucks and nothing can be done about it other than replacing the dash, which is a very expensive repair for someone that is retired and on a fixed income. My dash board has now cracked in at least four places and seems to be getting worse. I have heard this could cause issues with the deployment of the airbags, not to mention diminished resale value.

They advised me to wait until i received further notification. I received a notice saying that takata had filed for bankruptcy and i needed to immediately schedule a repair with an authorized dealer.

My dash cracked right by the airbag and has caused my airbag warning light to come on. Now my airbag warning light toggles between on and off. My dash continues to fall apart even with a dash mat covering it. I don't know if my airbag will deploy if needed. Plus i worry about shards of plastic hurting me or my family. Gm needs to do something. I don't know the exact day the crack showed up but i notice it in january 2017 while getting a stuffed animal out of the truck. Over the past months, the cracks have gotten worse to the point there is a hole in the dash from the shaking while i driving and nothing being secure.

Instrument panel "airbag" warning light (red continuously on) illuminated.after first incident initial engine ignition start bit (built in test) clears airbag fault for no more than 1 minute every start sequence at which time it triggers a "red dash warning icon light."i took vehicle to dealer who claimed necessary fix is owners responsibility and expense.they also declared they had "no knowledge of chevy avalanche or silverado airbag recalls or issues."i called gm customer service help line and lodged a complaint. Case number with gm is 71-148283766.gm stated that they did not feel responsible for the issue. Both the 2007-08 chevy silverado's' as well as the 2011 plus chevy avalanches are all under dot takata airbag recalls.the 2009 chevy avalanche is a growth product of the chevy 2008 silverado!!!i believe i am one of the takata airbag customers!!

Especially when ignition key switch is engaged it will stick and cause the starting motor to remain engaged requiring turning the switch back to off position then trying to restart the vehicle.being careful not to hold the ignition switch key in the position necessary to engage the starter any longer than absolutely necessary to hear the engine fire then returning the key position to the run position seems to prevent the problem.

All of the warning lights in the vehicle illuminated after the failure and the door locks began erratically functioning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for approximately one month however, within that month they were unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. On 10/13/2015 i took my avalanche to galles chevrolet , albuquerque, nm for repair of a cracked instrument cluster and faulty l/r door lock actuator. I picked it up on 10/15/2015. While parking the truck on 10/17/2015i shut off the engine and suddenly there was no power to lock the locks with the key fob. It was as if the battery i had had replaced new about 6 weeks priorsuddenly went dead. Then i heard a clicking noise in the doors/lock actuators and suddenly the battery power was restored. I next experienced this problem while driving on new mexico hwy 485 on 10/25/2015 only worse. While driving for about 10 miles at speeds of between 35-50 mph the door lock actuators locked and unlocked the doors numerous times, the airbag, stabilatrac, and abs sensor alarms kept activating and the cruise control suddenly disengaged many times again while driving. When we reached our destination about 10 minutes later i turned off the ignition and immediately lost battery power and heard the same clicking noises in the doors and needed a hotshot from another driver to get restarted. We were able to drive home in the darkness with all equipment and lights working without further incident. On 10/26/2015 i experienced another incident of sudden sensor and lock activations and alarms while driving in traffic and the hwy. This went on intermittently for about 10 minutes and then stopped. I had the battery, charging system and fault codes checked by a firestone mechanic 2x on 10/26/2015 but no faults were found in the computer and the battery and charging system checked out good. The technician mentioned that the only possible explanation was that the battery or one of the computer modules was somehowlosing its ground contact but he checked each of ground contact wires and found each securely connected. I will try to take a video of these events if it occurs again .
My stability control and traction control keep turning off.i have taken it in and the mechanic says it is the steering angel sensor.they cannot fix it because the part is back ordered nation wide.he said it is used on lots of gm platforms.so now at various times i have no stability control or traction control and cannot get the truck fixed.

While driving at highway speeds in a 2009 chevrolet avalanche, the electronic power will shut off to the vehicle on an intermittent basis.interior lights flash disorienting the driver, locks switch on and off, power to the engine is intermittent and surges forward upon power coming back. Traction assist and parking assist toggle on and off in rapid succession causing driver to nearly lose control of vehicle.incidents last for approximately 10 seconds at a time. Incidents happen in clusters and may go weeks or months at a time without incident.has occurred approximately 10times in the last year and usually after the incident the vehicle has difficulty starting afterwards.power will be completely off.after a period of time, vehicle will start back up and appear to be fine until the next incident. Have taken the vehicleto dealer (still under warranty)about six times for this problem and contact gm technical assistance. Have been told that since the vehicle's internal computer does not generatea "code" there is nothing that can be done.

I purchased a second set thinking the first where faulty and the second set also failed to work properly and have electrical arc marks inside. I am not the only complaint with this brand of lights on the internet. I noticed smoke and burning smell when i got home thank god i wasn't running to a grocery store and left kids in the truck when the first set of tail lights i purchased started on fire. How can this product be allowed when there are many complaints on the internet.

The dashboard is cracked in several places and flexes large amounts during normal in town driving conditions. There are sharp edges that concern me if we were involved in any type of accident. The vehicle has been well cared for and never abused in any way. The cracks continue to worsen and are apparently from the lack of reinforcement or materials defect in the dash itself but the direct cause is unknown to me.

The dashboard is cracking on its own just like all similar vehicles of the same model years from chevy and gmc. It is a safety concern for when airbags are deployed.

I have two cracks in my dash, one at the top left corner of the passenger air bag and one over the instrument cluster.i also have broken supports in the front section of the dash.this is a known issue that is documented on a facebook page called "07-13 gm cracked dash safety hazard for all trucks". This is a safety hazard if the airbag deploys and the dash breaks up into pieces, creating flying shards.

It is a know issue the any gm from 2007-2013 have issues in the dashboard getting cracked. Mine is a 2009 chevy avalanche and my dashboard has cracked in several places.the manufacturer knows about the problem but has done nothing about it to get the customers taken care of.this is definitely a manufacturer defect. How can you help the consumers get their dashboards fixed?

The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified. The senior adviser informed the contact that gmc was planning to rescind the recall for the takata air bags. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2009 chevrolet avalanche. While the contact was stopped with the vehicle in drive the vehiclesuddenly accelerated without warning causing the contact to crash into a garage door. The acceleration could only be stopped by placing the vehicle into the park gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the failure could not be reproduced. There were no prior warnings and the current and failure mileages were 11000. Updated 4/30/10 the consumer stated he was waiting for his garage door to open when the incident occurred. On 10/13/2015 i took my avalanche to galles chevrolet , albuquerque, nm for repair of a cracked instrument cluster and faulty l/r door lock actuator. I picked it up on 10/15/2015. While parking the truck on 10/17/2015i shut off the engine and suddenly there was no power to lock the locks with the key fob. It was as if the battery i had had replaced new about 6 weeks priorsuddenly went dead. Then i heard a clicking noise in the doors/lock actuators and suddenly the battery power was restored. I next experienced this problem while driving on new mexico hwy 485 on 10/25/2015 only worse. While driving for about 10 miles at speeds of between 35-50 mph the door lock actuators locked and unlocked the doors numerous times, the airbag, stabilatrac, and abs sensor alarms kept activating and the cruise control suddenly disengaged many times again while driving. When we reached our destination about 10 minutes later i turned off the ignition and immediately lost battery power and heard the same clicking noises in the doors and needed a hotshot from another driver to get restarted. We were able to drive home in the darkness with all equipment and lights working without further incident. On 10/26/2015 i experienced another incident of sudden sensor and lock activations and alarms while driving in traffic and the hwy. This went on intermittently for about 10 minutes and then stopped. I had the battery, charging system and fault codes checked by a firestone mechanic 2x on 10/26/2015 but no faults were found in the computer and the battery and charging system checked out good. The technician mentioned that the only possible explanation was that the battery or one of the computer modules was somehowlosing its ground contact but he checked each of ground contact wires and found each securely connected. I will try to take a video of these events if it occurs again .
Cracked, broken dashboard. Cracked in 2 corners of the passenger air bag. Crack goes all the way across to the drivers side. A section around the speaker has completely broke off. Cruise control no longer workers. Some speakers work sometimes, other times other ones work. Makes horrible rattling sound. Dealership says won't cover it and a new dash is over $800 for parts.
