I have been waiting over 3 years since the airbag recall notice was received, i have been by the chevy dealership and other customers have had this matter remedied. I am requesting that my airbags be replaced as soon as possible. I have been patiently waiting, and need this safety matter resolved.

Turned car on airbag light sensor came on.it stays on all the time now

Takata airbag recall - i received the notice but the dealership has been unable to obtain the parts for the repair for over 1 year.what is the point of a recall if there is no resolution?the airbag has been identified as defective and needs to be replaced, the dealer is willing to do the repair, but they can't obtain the replacement part.

The dashboard is cracking.there are two major cracks that touch the passenger airbag and four major cracks over the drive side instrument console.some cracks have been stop-drilled in an effort to keep them from spreading further.i think the cracks touching the airbag could cause shrapnel in an airbag deployment.

The dashboard is cracked and cracking worse everyday. I keep very good care of my care. It is cracked around the airbag and if in a wreck the dash will fly apart into pieces throughout the cab.

Dealer phillips chevy in frankfort il refused to replace because no recall from gm has been issued. Also called gm corp. They also said no recall. They said that the front right passenger should sit in the back versus the front seat to eliminate any injury. This is ridiculous, why have the vechile

Takata recall.recall sent to me in july 2016 of potentially fatal flaw in passenger airbag.it is now november, 2018 (over 2 years later) and i have not heard anything to remedy this "potentially fatal" situation.when will this be remedied?

Takata recall: i've called the madera, ca chevrolet and went in person. They don't want to change the airbag on the truck. Not even make an appointment. The lady that helped us said we need to wait for another letter to come in before they change it.

I have a 2008 chevy avalanche ltz, i have a problem with the dash light coming on withservice air bag, wiring by the emergency brake pedal a problem. It happens when it running, stationary, when i start the truck. I took the truck to the dealership and they replaced the air bag and the air bag sensor. The light came back on and comes on intermittently. No fix as of yet. This happens all the time from march to present day still ongoing!!!!

Takata air bag - i received a notice 2 years ago about a recall from chevy and still no solution.i contacted the local chevy dealer last week and they say they dont have any idea when the needed parts will be available.i have 3 small kids that ride with me on a regular basis, i cant keep riding around with this dangerous situation.

Dashboard has cracked around airbag and above instrument panel.i have seen that this is a common problem with the dash cracking on all of gm model avalanche, tahoe, sububan and similar vehicles.

Takata recall "16v383"dated may 27, 2016.it has been over two years andgm states "incomplete. Remedy not available".i am very concerned for my saftey and the safety of my family and other passencers!can you do anything to get this safety issue resolved?

Last week several cracks appeared in the dash around the passenger side airbag in my low mileage, garaged 2008 avalanche.upon researching the issue i found that it is a well know defect with dashes in 2007 to 2013 chevy trucks and that gm refuses to help those who experience the cracking.i am very fearful of the injuries that the shattered plastic would cause to the front seat passengers should the airbag deploy, so i have no other choice but to pay up to fix the gm issue.gm, if not willing to defray the entire cost, should offer a substantial rebate for the repair.

I own a 2008 chevy avalanche that has the dashboard crackingby the airbag and above the dashboard cluster which is going to resul in someone getting seriously injured or even lost of a life (deaf). While drivingon a rough road a section of the dash broke from being cracked striking me in my face next to my left eye. If not have reacted in urgent moment the dashboard piece that broke from the dash would have struck me in the eye and could have caused me to loose my eye. I contacted gm coporate office about the problem and was told not there problem.u guys really need to recall this defect urgent as possible because the next owner with a cracked dashboard might not be as lucky as i wheremay loose there eye or even there life.it's a shame that gm don't care n it seems after looking at all the complaints that's been received here nhtsa doesn't care if someone get seriously injured or lost of life either.so much for our government.

My dealership mentions they can do nothing and at this point and currently there's a crack around the passenger airbag area of my vehicle. I'm very concerned because there appears to be no sense of urgency. Please advise as i have received notification for recall replacement. Thank you.

Takata recall.gm issued recall notice #2049152 on 05/27/16 and sent a letter to me in july 2016.docket id nhtsa-2016-0124 documents the back and forth between gm and the agency during the past two years.the uncertainty of whether or not my truck may kill me because of an unresolved safety issue is beyond concerning.how much longer do owners of the affected vehicles need to wait before action is taken to protect the driver's life and restore confidence in the safety of these gm vehicles?gm owner's luck and patience have been tested beyond reasonable measure.

My vehicle has a takata airbag.i have inquired my local dealer to schedule a replacement for almost three (3) years.the only thing they have told me is that a remedy is not yet available.seems odd as others i know have gotten their airbag replaced.

While in operation at 55 mph the engin power was reduced after three service appointments repair attempts. Reduced power mode is a condition inserted by the engine controls module as a result of the fly by wire connection. The result was a quick speed reduction to 20 mph as max speed. Dot requires 45 mph, unsafe!

Coming home from lacrosse practice with my two sons, we hit a 900 lb cow running acrossthe main road at night.crushed front end all the way to windshield, very violent blow.wetraveling approx. 45 mph at night on a dark road.i received neck, back injuries, vision problems along with soreness in my spine and back.my first son in the front his head hit the dashboard while he was holding his head with his hands.he then was snapped back violently at his head on the back of the seat.first son has head and neck injuries and also is suffering from headaches and also blurry vision.second son in rear, busted his lip and suffered whiplash and headaches as well.they have been advised to miss lacrosse indefinitely.

"takata recall"nothing has happened yet. However, we have not been in an accident. We feel like we are rolling the dice every time we use our vehicle. We have seen tv reporting where occupants have been grossly facially disfigured and or blinded from metal scraps from these airbags. Why are we being put at this dangerous risk? since it appears, according to my chevrolet dealer, we are no closer to having a replacement. Thus, i am requesting that you give the dealership.permission to disable or remove the bag.we would rather take our chances without a dangerous air bag that could explode in our face even in a minor accident, as we have done most of our lives before air bags were mandated. Please advise!

I am unable to get gm to replace my recalled takata airbags.though i have not had an accident in which the airbags have deployed, i know the airbags have been recalled and it concerns me to drive the vehicle.additionally, i am not sure that i can sell the vehicle knowing that the airbags are recalled.

I have had 5 avalanches 3 07s 2 08s all have dash cracking issues the breaking dashes crack cause glare in drivers eyes noises that can take focus off the road every one i've owned it's happened gm used a proprolyene dash that gets brittle when introduced to heat. This is known by gm as a defect but u guys have not enforced them to fix it's a extremely expensive fix labor is high and i'm 5 for 5 on cracking dashes. 3 have cracked so bad that when the sun hit them they throw glare toward my eyes. It needs to be addressed this is crappy. Just like gm and the crappy cadillac srx headlights they know it's a defect then fix it

Recently learned this dash crack and air safety bag was a recall item.

I received an important legal " takata recall"noticethat my 2008 chevy avalanche is involved in a recall for my airbags. I was instructed to log on to airbags .org. I registered my vehicle . I expressed my concern because that recal notice i received was pretty confident that they needed to be replaced. Gm service mgr.told me i need not be too concerned. I'm very concerned with there nonchalant attitude. Please lett me know what my options are please.thank you, ps my airbags haven't deployed but my concern is that they have been known to self deploy for no apparent reason.

Multiple dashboard cracks in the proximity of the passenger airbag could cause deployment failure during airbag deployment. This vehicle airbag system is compromised by these cracks. Thousands of gm trucks are affected by cheap dashboard materials that crack within a few months or years of sale. This vehicle has multiple cracks. Many websites and multiple social media sites have been actively discussing this problem yet gm is ignoring the customers. We urge nhtsa to recall these vehicles and force gm to replace these dangerous and defective dashboards. Gm continues to exhibit outrageous and irresponsible behavior even after multiple recalls for so many other problems.

Cracked dashboard defect. I asked the manufacturer (gm) what happens to a cracked dashboard during a collision? their response was basically nhtsa decides what a safety concern is.well, i recently chatted with nthsa online and asked the question, what happens to a cracked dashboard during a collision? nthsa response to me was, that would be a question for the manufacturer since they are the ones who conduct the crash tests.apparently no one knows what happens to a defective dashboard during a collision, i imagine shrapnel impaling into my face or my children's face. We all know gm would rather pay families for the burning deaths of their loved ones rather than issue a recall for their defective product because it's cheaper.....i suggest the authority "nthsa" hold the manufacturer accountable for defects regardless of pressure from washington representatives that may put pressure on nthsa to have less stringent standards jusr so a company can make more profits and throw more money into some asshats coffer. That's the only logical explanation as to why defects are not remedied.i asked again, what happens to a cracked dashboard during a collision? who is going to answer that question? who is going to decide if that's a safety concern? who sets the standard for safety? what's the minimal acceptable death rate due to vehicle defects? what's the minimal acceptable human deformation, handicapped rate due to vehicle defects?i look forward to having those questions answered and not just referred to an online resource that doesn't answer these questions specifically.

"takata recall" this recall is still open and active on my vehicle! neither gm or takata are doing anything about this! the gm recall site still states, incomplete, remedy not yet available". My dashboard is so badly cracked it has effected the functionality of the air bags. This an expensive repair and happens to majority of these trucks.

I've had my truck for 4 years now and its been in the shop 5 times due to transmission problems. I've gotten the transmission rebuilt 5 times and its still giving me problems. 6/2014- present day.

The dashboard has several cracks and just recently, a chunk fell into the dashboard.if the airbag deploys, there are probably parts around it that will deploy into the passenger as well as the driver's face.considering how brittle it is, it will probably shatter in the even of an accident, sending shards of plastic scattering throughout the interior as well.

Takata recall and oil consumption

Received notice of recall many years ago. Remedy has never been completed after many calls to manufacturer, dealer and nhtsa over many years. The excuse is always that the replacement part is not available. This is disgraceful since we are at risk for severe injury or even death.

I was completely stopped behind another vehicle, when a toyota tacoma pickup hit the rear of the avalanche, knocking it into an f250 crew cab 4 wheel drive pickup, the front end was severely damaged and the rear was severely damaged causing it to be totaled.

This is a 2008 model with only approx. 15,000 miles.i want vehicle repaired because i want to use it more and want to have a sense of safety when doing so.

"takata recall" i have not received a recall notice nor has this problem been fixed. I had front end damage to my truck at about 40 mph and the air bags did not deploy. I was traveling on an highway. By not deploying may have been a good thing. I would like for chevrolet to correct this asap.

After a couple of years my vehicle developed several cracks in the dash, especially around the airbag. Yesterday i had the airbag recall performed. As a result of the repair, the cracks are now broken pieces. I now fear that in the event of an airbag deployment, shards of sharp plastic will be thrown into the air and could potentially result in severe injury.

Takata recalli have a 2008 chev avalanche which has a air bag inflator recall issued over 3 years ago. Importance of repairs were stated as age of vehicle and region where it resides. I bought my avalanche new, 11 years ago, and have always lived in florida. I recently had my dashboard replaced due to cracking as a result of, according to gm, 'heat and humidity' in florida. However what seems to be a very important safety issue for passengers (wife and grandkids) doesn't seem to get priority attention. If in fact takata and gm believe that age and humid regions are primary factors which determine the degradation time of air bag inflators and increase the possibility of injury or death then my vehicle should be high on the recall list. May 27, 2016 recall issued and still no action.

Takata recall #16v381 - manufacturer recall #2049151 i don't understand how there can be a recall with no remedy.i want my passenger to be safe in my car but gm will not fix it. What can i do? i have been waiting and worrying since 2016 for a replacement airbag.

Takata airbags recalli received a recall in 2016 for my 08 avalanche .its now 2018 no one has contact me about the recall

There iare cracks on my dash and around the airbag, if i get in a wreck and the airbag deploys, shards of the dash will fly into the backseat where my children are. This is not safe and needs to be fixed.

I saw the commercial regarding the airbag recall.my chevy avalanche was listed. I confirmed with our dealership that it indeed is on the recall list. I've only used the one dealership for this vehicle.they confirmed that they've never fixed it even though they were aware of this recall and have refused to fix it now. I've gone all the way up through chevy the corporation who says they cannot fix my airbag. What do i do now?my husband and son drive this vehicle. We are still driving it. We have to.

I have a small crack on the top left side dash near the air bag. I feel with this being so close to the air bag it will cause serious harm to anyone sitting inside the cabin. I take very good care of my vehicle and have no understanding on how this could happen, i think it's a bad fabrication on gm.

When the temperature reached 90*+ the airbag warning would go off. When the temperature gets cold 50*- the light would turn off to normal operation.

Received air bag recall from gm july 2016. Called dealership no solution. Waiting on gm resolve issue. May 2020 airbag warning light is on. Called dealership...will not repair. Called gm cust care waiting on arbitration with takata. Documenting the unsafe condition of this vehicle while no responsible parties are taking action to repair/replacing airbag system to make the car safe to drive.

Takata recall after getting 2nd airbag recall notice saying to contact dealership to set up an appointment to have airbag replaced at no charge the dealership tells me that gm is not doing replacements. My 1st notice came in july 2016 stating telling of the recall but stating not to contact the dealership that i would hear from them later. My next notice came from takata today ( 10/24/2017 ) telling me to contact the dealership and set up the appointment to have the airbags replaced @ no charge to me but i was told gm has not given them approval for the replacement because they do not have replacements, so what do i do now.

It is well known that chevrolet/gm has a major quality problem with powerdoor locks that has been going on for many years.one only need to google chevy door locks to get an idea of the magnitude of the problem.(see http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f206d4b as an example).as a frequent transporter of small children it is hard for me to understand why the nhtsa does not consider this a major safety issue.doors lock or unlock without warning leaving small children in the back of these vehicles either exposed to risks of inadvertent opening doors or being locked into vehicles at the time of potential accidents where there is no easy or safe way to open the doors from inside or outside of the vehicle. These vehicles are also subject to increased risks from ranging from car theft to hijackers to simple burglary as you never know whether a door is locked or not unless you go around and try each one from the outside of the vehicle.general motors has consistently refused to address this or improve the quality of the product and will not do so until the nhtsa takes a public stand on the continued safety risks that these defective doorlocks present to all who ride in these vehicles.

Right front door power lock does not work. Cannot lock or unlock with remote or with inside control. Can only unlock/lock door by button on door.this is a safety concern.

My wife drove the truck to walmart to get a couple of items with her were my son in law and daughter. Once arriving there(approx. 3 mi) they noticedsome smoke coming from under the hood. My son in law opened the hood to discover a fire, he then ran into walmart where an employee grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. After they got home i checked it out and the wiring harness that goes to the mass air flow sensor was completely melted. It was still in all th he factory tie downs and wasn't touching anything that could have chafed it or pinched the wires. The truck was on city street then in parking lot

My dash is cracked right by the airbag and right over the cluster which i feel is a defect in the material that was used to make the dash and is a safety hazard. If the airbag deploys ' could bust and pieces could fly injury someone or puncture the airbag i feel that gm should resolve this problem i should not have to pay for a new dish thank you hope to hear back soon. Furthermore there is an electrical problem with my vehicle the truck will lock by itself with the keys in the ignition or laying on the consul is happened several times on me again thank you

2008 chevy avalanche. Over a two year period had all 4 door lock solenoids replaced due to failure. When i thought i had doors the doors locked they were not. Cost me about $150 for the first lock--when i raised [xxx] the chevy service manager accommodated the cost of the other three over a period of time--i pointed outwhen i searched the web is was a major issue, with not just the avalanche but also the tahoe, surburban and silverado. When i ask if the new solenoid was an improved unit the manager said he did not know but the part # did not change---sound familiar??--crazy!!!! as of one month ago i no longer own the avalanche. When i told the service manage there should be a recall, he said they only recall for safety issues---i told him that it looked like a safety issue to me--the owner thinks the doors are locked but one may not be.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2008 chevrolet avalanche. Windshield washer and wiper occasionally comes on and washes the windshield 3 times. There is no way to stop it. The wiper is completely off during the 3 wash cycles. May go a month between incidents.the consumer has not received a response regarding his complaint. Updated 03/22/10

The wire harness under dashboard was rubbing against the emergency brake mechanism and shorted out catching fire. I was lucky to have been stopped and able to put the fire out within seconds resulting in very minimal damage but had i been on the highway the result would have been very different. However it did short out other electronics inside the vehicle such as the rearview mirror putting me out hundreds if not thousands of dollars to repair.

The vehicle doors will unlock and lock several times while i'm driving, it will also cause the dashboard, clock-radio and onstar system to flicker off and on.then it will start to throw error messages on the dashboard about stabilitrak and theft deterrent systems disabled.

Left rear power door lock stopped workingat 38,000 miles.right rear power door lock stopped workingat 42,000 miles. Right front power door lock stopped workingat 53,000 miles.driver side power door lock stopped workingat 61,000 miles.at this time it is very unsafe when children are in the back seats and the doors lock are unable to unlock the doors.i am unable to unlock the back doors unless i stop the vehicle and climb through the two front seats to get to the manual locks located at the back of the doors.if the vehicle is in a serious accident and anyone is not aware that the power locks no longer work they may not be able to get out of the truck.previously the doors locked when the truck started to move forward automatically and now if children are in the truck they could possible fall out of the truck if the doors open while truck is moving.

I have a 2008 chevy avalanche ,the truck has been having a lot of electrical problems. For the past month the truck will flicker when i drive but it is un constant. At first i though it was a battery issue so i took it to autozone and they checked the battery and said the battery is fine its a electrical problem in the truck. I did some research and all the reviews and that the avalanche did have a recall on there electrical isuess. So i called a local chevy dealer and told them about the problem and how it might have a recall on the electrical system and they said no. So i was driving yesterday on the highway and my truck started to flicker and them turn off completely and locked up on me. I could of been in a wreak but thankfully the highway was not busy and i stop on the highyway. I then tried to turn the truck on and showed no life at all in the truck. I kept trying till finnay it turned on. So i could of died because of the electrical problem with chevy. I would like yaw to look into this because this could be a big lawsuite and all i want is my truck to work fine, thank you.

Oh my 08 avalanche my dashboard is cracked right by the airbag and right above the plaster in front of the steering wheel. My vehicle also automatically lock by itself with the keys in the ignition or not in the ignition

Commuting to work approximately 3 miles away from home, traveling in the dark at 7 am, i flipped my high beam headlights on and suddenly all electrical function went out of the automobile (no headlights or electrical instrumentation).this lasted for approximately 1 to 2 seconds and suddenly and all electrical functions was restored.things after that seemed ok, but about 6 miles down the road the engine "service stabilizer control light appears" .i traveled another 11 miles to plainville, and when i arrived the"stabilizer control light went out. I took the vehicle toa mechanic them to evaluate it.after several hours and two diagnostic tests all electrical function reflect normal.the problem could not be isolated or duplicated.i contact general motors yesterday, to report the serious safety defect and how critical this is and i could have been injured or killed at that speed driving in the dark.i also asked them if they have had similar reportings of this occurrence and received a mixed response.there response was bureaucratic, take it to a chevrolet dealership.i said no.i am not paying another $150.00 tell me we cannot find a problem.i kept stressing there is a problem "vehicles suddenly do not just dropped off all electrical power and function and magically just come back on".this is not normal for any vehicle to happen.i also informed them as a courtesy i would speak to them (general motors) first before i contact this agency.i also tried to emphasize to them, people should have a direct line of communication to the corporation to report safety and life threatening issues directly.the nature of the response is basically we don't do anything unless we receive information from gm service departments.

Electronic door locks have failed on three of the 4 doors on this car.the neitherthe key fob or the door mounted locking switch willtoggle them between locked and unlocked position.you can hear the actuator trying to work but their is something wrong with the linkage preventing this. This is a major in convenience, as well as a potential safety hazard.

Electronic door locks have failed on three of the 4 doors on this truck. Check engine light on due to code p0452, which is fuel tank pressure sensor defective. I called the dealership and they said it was not covered under the warranty and it would cost around $500 to repair. Spoke with my brother-in-law today who has a 2002 avalanche and he had the same problem with fuel sensor and his repair was covered under the warranty. The door handle of my vehicle is plated in chrome. This chrome is now coming undone, and is razor sharp.

Door locks on driver door worked off and on with either armrest switch or key fob.problem now affects all four doors.

The dashboard has cracked around the instrument cluster and the air bag. Causing safety hazards. It is obviously a flawed design gm refuses to own up to. The vehicle also has some electrical issue that causes the trucks to come to a stop on the interstate.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost all power without warning. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle. Having intermittent start problems that seem to be caused by an electrical problem. The truck will not start or turn over while dash warnings indicate "parking asst off" and "traction stability off". Initially it was just these issues along with the non start but now 4 weeks and $588.04 later includes the power locks going up and down by themselves and ac blowing hot air. Fortunately the vehicle was parked when i tried to start it. The chevy dealer said at first they thought it had been struck by lightning then claimed it was the onstar module which they wanted to replace at $699. I advised them i don't use onstar so they said they could disconnect it from the rest of the vehicle and that worked fror a few weeks. The truck drove beautifully but now is back at the dealership and they want to replace the onstar module again which clearly isn't the problem. I love the truck but can't afford several hundred dollars every few weeks on this. I need a real solution to this problem and i know that this is a known issue because i have researched this problem and found it to be a gm issue that is affecting many, many others beside myself and as far back as the 2006 models. If it goes back that far and with so many other people there has to be a solution. Please somebody help me find it!!!!

Lost complete power of car. Could not steer, or brake. Happened in snow. Since that time it has happened 5 other times. 3 in the last week with the snow and rain. There is a great potential for loss of life.have researched this for months and there are many avalanche owner with the same problem.

Vehicle chimes went off, check engine light came on, started displaying stabilitrak disabled, traction control disabled, service stabilitrak, also truck is losing oil without any visible signs of leakage, no oil smell, no oil light displayed.

The vehicle doors will unlock and lock several times while i'm driving, it will also cause the dashboard, clock-radio and onstar system to flicker off and on.then it will start to throw error messages on the dashboard about stabilitrak and theft deterrent systems disabled.

Excessive oil consumption.initial problem occurred on february 11, 2014 and gm dealer did some initial work, but the problem was not fixed. On april 27, the engine began running very, very rough and several lights came on (engine light, traction light, stabilitrac light and there may have been others).i immediately pulled over, checked the oil level found it was 1.5 quarts low, so i added oil and started engine again.so i had vehicle towed to my gm dealer.the next week, the dealer said they were looking into the problem.finally the week of may 5, they said they would need to replace pistons, rings, lifters and i don't remember the entire list.i asked what was this going to cost and who would be paying for the work.service manager told me the total would be in the $4500 range, but he would check with gm to see if they would pay part of this.next day service manager said gm would pay for all except a $500 "warranty deductible".my receipt shows they replaced one piston, the camshaft, 16 lifters, lifter guides, the manifold, a sensor, 8 spark plugs, added 6 quarts oil, installed oil filter, recharged a/c system and charged for numerous gaskets, nuts and bolts.the dealer told me that the reason for the problem was due to the fact that my engine was made in mexico.they said they used parts manufactured in canada on my repair work.i have read on the internet that this excessive oil consumption problem with this engine is not new - it has been reported to gm for several years.why didn't gm stop using engines manufactured in mexico before 2008 if in fact this is the main reason for this problem.they should have been proactive to prevent this widespread problem and causing their customers to pay needlessly for repairs that gm should have paid for in total - or replaced this engine totally!

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled as the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle wa able to restart after several attempts, but the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. A local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offer any further assistance. The failure mileage and vin were unknown.

I have a 2008 chevy avalanche ltz with the 5.3l v8 engine with adaptive fuel managment. It was purchased used with 120k miles. It became apparent that the engine was consuming oil, 1-2 quarts per 3000 miles. Recently the engine started producing white/blue smoke on start up and oil consumption increased to 2-3 quarts in 1500 miles. My vehicle is currently at a mechanics shop and i am told that for starters i will need new valve covers that are redesigned from the original ones and that excessive oil consumption is common on this engine. I have read of other owners that have had to have pistons/rings, valve covers replaced, and a baffle placed into the oil pan to mitigate the oil consumption. This seems to be a fairly common occurrence that isn't a typical maintenance issues since these parts weren't oem when the vehicle was made. It seems unacceptable to have to have oem modifications completed out of my pocket for something that seems to be identified as an issue with specific parts made to mitigate the issue. I am very concerned what this acceptable oil consumption will mean for the longevity of my engine.

At 73000 miles transmission broke just a few months out of warranty.also started experiencing excessive oil consumption and noisy engine. Have heard and read too many reports of people with the 5.3 liter having major mechanical problems i.e. Camshaft lifters piston rings and valves all going bad.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. While driving 40 mph, the steering wheel seized and the vehicle shut off. The vehicle began to roll down the street. The contact stopped and shut off the vehicle. Upon restarting the vehicle, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic, but could not be serviced. The vehicle was then driven to vera cadillac (300 s university dr, pembroke pines, fl 33025, (954) 998-1684) where the mechanic stated that the contact would have to pay for the repairs. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 156,693.

Drove to post office, it was normal till i made a u turn on city street then engine ran very rough and engine light came on blinking, plus service stabilitrak & service traction control also appear on dash.drove home immediately as truck wont shift to high gear.check code and it said p0307 cyclinder #7 misfiredlook up google to see if i can repaired it myself as read to replace plug, wire and coil for cyclinder #7 so i did itstill same problem.took to mechanic to test my truck and fail compression test.mechanic talk to me as i bought the truck last year and still paying for it. Describe to me of what is possible so told him to fix ithe say that there are about 2000 truck which have same problem i have.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle lost power without warning. The vehicle was pulled to the side of the road, turned off, and was restarted after a few minutes. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and replaced the oil pressure sensor and the oil screen. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the mechanic who replaced the oil pump and advised the contact not to waste any more money on the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and recommended a diagnostic evaluation of the vehicle and also stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 143,000. The vin was not provided. The consumer stated the issue was the malfunction of the active fuel management system and/or the valve lifter oil manifold assembly on the general motor's 5.3 litre engine from 2007-2010.the vlom was bolted to the top of the engine valley, below the intake manifold assembly. The vlom consisted of four electrically operated normally closed solenoids. Each solenoid controlled the application of engine oil pressure on the intake and exhaust valve filters on the cylinders selected to deactivate. When the assembly fails, oil is not distributed properly through chambers.the consumer experienced reduced power in the middle of the freeway after receiving a no oil pressure alert on the dashboard. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop, where it was recommended the engine be replaced.updated 12/07/15.

The 5.3 vortec engine lifters collapse took to dealer fixed for 1000.00 dollars drove 30 miles home from dealership started ticking again dealer ship fixed it said it was another side lifter that went easter weekend no vehicle now again here 1 year later another ticking well maintained oil changes every 3 to 4ooo miles synthetic oil when is chevy going to exept responsiabilty for bad engines class act suit 50 years old chevy my whole life might have to looksomeplace else.

Stress fracture in front dash pad around air bag cover... Extremely noise lifters on startup !

I drive my truck on the weekends only and at least twice a year i have to replace cylinder #7 spark plug all of the time, also got the oil pressure switch and the filter replaced twice and i get a tapping sound at idle due to the low oil pressure reading on the dash, and it has happen right after an oil change, last but not lease the cracking of the dashboard.

The active fuel management (afm) system has failed causing the motor to lose combustion in one of the afm cylinders (cylinder 7 to be exact) due to the afm lifter failed and has jammed the exhaust valve open. Gm is aware of the issue and has had several complaints to fix. Everyone with the afm system from gm for around my model year have had similar problems or have completely lost the motor

There is an issue with moisture. First incident occurred in snow. Traveling around 55 mph when i hit a patch of snow on the road and the truck stalled. At that time, i also lost steering ability and braking ability. Truck would not start. Towed to mechanic. Real issue never found. Basically dried out and started again (2) days.second incident happened during rain. Went through a small puddle at 40 mph and had the same issue. Towed again and started right up the next day.third incident happened last night, april 25, 2013 while driving home in a driving rain storm. Did not hit any water just stalled on it's own. Again, stalled and would not start. Towed for a third time. Talked to chevrolet this morning they said there were no recalls for the issue but i have checked online on several different forums and it seem to be a problem for many folks.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. While driving at an unknown speed, the low oil indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to sands chevrolet (5418 grand ave, glendale, az 85301) where the dealer stated that the contact needed to get more frequent oil changes. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued to recur. The vehicle was taken to courtesy chevrolet (1233 e camelback rd, phoenix, az 85014) where it was diagnosed that the roller lifters failed, causing damage to the camshaft and the piston rings to collapse. The engine mounts also collapsed and the engine needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle shook and the check engine and check traction control indicators illuminated. When the contact attempted to accelerate, the vehicle jerked and hesitated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the cylinder lifters for cylinders 1, 4, 6 and 7 failed due to an issue with the pressure release valve in the active fuel management system. The lifters needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken back to courtesy chevrolet where the diagnosis and repairs were confirmed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that they would not assist. The contact was advised to speak with nhtsa. The approximate failure mileage was 85,300.

My 2008 avalanche with 72,000 miles on it, is completely rotting away underneath. I've had to replace many parts, shocks, autoride compressor, fuel pump module, had body rust repaired, have had 3 door handles fall right off..last 2 mechanics told me that all parts located underneath truck are rotting away and that i need to get rid of truck because it is not worth repairing.i have tried to work with gm but they claim that its normal wear and tear.paid 30k for truck dec 2011.have membership to car wash, and keep it very clean. Undercarriage included. Cant get my service suspension light to shut off, even the dealer cant. This truck should not be rotting away the way it is..please help.

The doors would not unlock after stopping & putting in park.i took it to the dealer & they replaced the actuator.it worked o.k. For a while & took it back & they replaced the actuator again.it continues to not unlock occasionally.i feel this could be a safety issue if the vehicle was involved in an accident or if vehicle were to catch on fire. I have looked on the internet regarding this problem and found several incidents on this topic but nothing from gm.i think gm should look into this problem and fix it before someone pays with their life.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Door locks fail to lock on chevrolet avalanche.

My 2008 chevy avalanche has a problem with the driver door and therear door same side not opening or closing with the remote. This could be a safety hazard if i had to get into the vehicle in an emergency because the only door with a key lock is the drivers door.

Right front door power lock does not work. Cannot lock or unlock with remote or with inside control. Can only unlock/lock door by button on door.this is a safety concern.

Problems with train mission. I'm a 75 year old driver. Bought avalanche sly model. Great vehicleand driven easy and is garage kept.have extended warranty from dealer. Transmission starting to bump as if you could have hiit a speed bump coming out of low into second. Was immediately taken to the dealership. They changed the wiring harness on the transmission. Said it seemed ok. As i picked up vehicle. The first traffic light caughtand as i started up at a slow take off it was doing the same problem. Will return to dealership in the morning. Wiring harness fluid and filter change. Total repair to date $596.00

At 73000 miles transmission broke just a few months out of warranty.also started experiencing excessive oil consumption and noisy engine. Have heard and read too many reports of people with the 5.3 liter having major mechanical problems i.e. Camshaft lifters piston rings and valves all going bad.

I purchased a new 2008 chevy avalanche and, shortly after the first year of ownership, i noticed that the front tires were wearing on the inside. I had the vehicle alignment checked regularly and the alignment was within specs and the suspension was without defect. This was reported to the dealership, to the customer assistance department at chevrolet and nothing could be found that was a cause for this condition. Recently, i took the vehicle back again to the dealer to check its suspension and alignment and it was clear that the front tires were cupping on the inside. The dealer shared a tsb with me indicating that this condition was normal. I contacted the customer assistance center again and they could not provide a solution or any accommodation for this. Something is wrong with the vehicle design that would cause this premature tire failure but chevrolet is denying this. Please help as i have found this condition to adversely affect vehicle stability.

I replaced the tires on my 2008 avalanche ,got a front end alignment and now when i drive it i hear a clunking sound . I looked on the internet and it said that many chevy truck owners have this problem so i was wondering if there was a recallon the steering shaft on these trucks.

I bought my vehicle in may of 2012 with about 85,000 miles on it.at the time there was two small cracks in the dashboard, (1) starting from the front edge of the dashboard going around the rounded area covering/above the gauges, and (1) smaller crack going from the corner of the airbag-rectangle to the front edge of the dashboard.the cracks have continued to grow and have become a problem that will require them to be fixed/replaced/covered.

Dashboard cracked against passenger side airbag.this appears to be a known issue with gm that they refuse to correct.because of this crack/deformity will the airbag deploy correctly, or will that piece of plastic become a projectile?

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v383000 (air bags). The part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the dashboard fractured near the passenger air bag compartment and near the instrument panel, closer to the windshield. The contact had not notified the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the fractures on the dashboard as well as the recall repair not being performed. The manufacturer offered to have the dealer repair the dashboard; however, they were unable to provide a remedy for the recall. The manufacturer was also not able to provide an estimated time frame for the remedy. The dashboard was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

Went out to take granddaughter to school & noticed 2 cracks in my dash. 1 is on passengers side above airbags & the other is on drivers side above cluster.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated that the dashboard fractured and separated, which created sharp edges. Cracked dash.

Stress fracture in front dash pad around air bag cover... Extremely noise lifters on startup !

On april1 2015 founda huge crack on thedriver side of the dashboard. Truck only has 49577 miles. Manufacturersneedsto replace this part properly.

Dash pad has severe cracking and 1.5 in hole...concerned about holearound passenger air bag !! dash pad has cracked and opened up over instrument panel!! this all affectsthe deployment of the faulty taukartyair bagin a crash!this has been an ongoing issue since ownership of vehicle and has just worsened with time.. To do something about it or turn it into a lemon!!

The dash board is cracking from the corners of the passenger airbag and above the instrument cluster. Hard plastic pieces are falling onto the floor from behind the dash. This is the second dash installed as the first cracked into several parts while it was under warranty. Gm no longer offers replacement parts. If the airbags deploy sharp hard plastic will be sprayed upon the occupants.

The dash is cracking in several location which could be cause injury if the air bags were deployed. I have had one dash replaced already with the same issues in the same location again. Now since not under any warranty vert expensive to replace. I read this had been a problem with miltiable year and models with this same dash.

The frame on our truck has completely begun to rust out. Gm has a tsb to repair the frames on 2011-2013 avalanches but this should extend to other model years as well as it's the same issue that gm is already aware of.

Presently three of my 2008 chevy avalanche ltz door handles have broken off.i have no kids and no excessive usage of the back two doors but they broke the worse.the gmc repair shop explained that most of these door handles brake off in the winter.therefore, i'd say this is a known defect.when you pay almost 50k for a new truck and within 4 years you are driving a vehicle with only one door handle that is pathetic.i will never buy another gmc chevy and i will never recommend a chevy avalanche.there are multiple other defects with this truck as well.this is not a quality made vehicle.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated that cracks developed on the dashboard. The cracks were on the passenger side of the dashboard near the location of the air bag. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.

The plating on the interior door handle is peeling to the point where it is cutting my finger each time i open the door.

At present 3 outside door handles are broken & may be pulled off at any time.these are: rt front pass., rt rear pass. & left rear pass. Doors. This represents an expense to me of $450 or $500. I, or previous owner, have replaced 3 door handles: rt front pass., under warranty; left rear 13 july 2010, $124; & driver's door 23 apr 2013, $155. Local chevy service dept said reason for this failure is likely because handles are made of plastic, not metal; but they can't repair for free because gm doesn't acknowledge responsibility.i have owned many gm products in my 75 years, but i think this will be my last because quality of their vehicles sucks like an egg-sucking dog and, like the dog, it seems to be endemic.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated that the chrome on the interior passenger and driver side door handles were deteriorating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who did not provide an explanation for the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 37,000. Consumer cancelled complaint 04/13/2012*lj

The dash is cracked above the instrument cluster and at the passengers side airbag and could cause injury if airbag is deployed and dash breaks apart. This has happened since i purchased the vehicle and i keep it in the garage when not at work and use a dash / windshield screen a lot of the time.

Dash on veicle has cracked on both sides twice in three years and chevy will not fix because out of warranty. Dash is cracked next to top airbag and if airbag is deployed it will throw pieces of sharp dash which is thick plastic all over. This has happened to hundreds of others and chevy will not fix or help.

The chrome on the passenger side front door handle has begun to peel and is very sharp. A passenger cut their hand on the handle last week. I have since had to cut a portion of the chrome off and apply tape over the handle to prevent this from happening again.

Dashboard has cracked in 3 spots. Including 2 near airbag on passengers side.

Cracked dashboard in 3 places during normal use

Car was sitting in parking lot all day while i was at work. It was approximately 92 degrees out that day, and the vehicle was parked in an area that had shade for a good portion of the day as i try not to leave it out in the direct sun for too long due to the exterior plastic fading problem that occurs with these vehicles, mine included. When i returned to my car from work, there was a large (approx. 2-3 inch) crack in my dashboard. The crack is by the steering wheel area. It runs from the front of the section piece, toward the steering wheel and ends roughly where the dashboard raises up for the steering wheel area. I have now seen many complaints about this concern online and am hopeful that the manufacturer will do something about this problem as the integrity of the dashboard is now compromised and could present a safety hazard in the event of an accident. It also is now exposing any wiring and mechanisms under the dashboard to dirt and dust and could therefore result in electrical problems in the near future.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v383000 (air bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. Barker buick gmc (2030 ireland grove rd, bloomington, il 61704, (309) 319-6877) was contacted and it was confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracked on the driver side. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown. Vin tool confirms parts not available.consumer stated 1 inch of windshield and around front air bag the pad was raised.

The dash has a crack above the instrument panel, as well as in the upper left corner of the airbag.airbag deployment could result in shrapnel

The dashboard is cracking.there are two major cracks that touch the passenger airbag and four major cracks over the drive side instrument console.some cracks have been stop-drilled in an effort to keep them from spreading further.i think the cracks touching the airbag could cause shrapnel in an airbag deployment.

I recently noticed a crack in my dash close to the airbag in my 2008 chevrolet avalanche, it's approx. 3-4 inches in length from the upper left corner of the airbag compartment to the top of the dash. This occurred while my avalanche was parked at the airport while traveling, when i returned the crack was there, presumably from temperature changes. The vehicle is out of warranty with over 100k miles but i feel this is a safety concern being so close to the airbag. If the airbag deploys i expect plastic shards will be thrown around the interior cabin and possibly causing harm to passengers, possibly children. I have taken my vehicle to my local dealer and they say it's cosmetic and i would have to pay. I'm willing to pay however some people may not since the cost is so high. I feel that this is a safety concern and the nhtsa should open an investigation, thank you.

My dash is cracking on thedriver side of my vehicle as well as the passenger side this ride only has 85,178.00 on it the dash should not be cracking like that

I have replaced two dashboards. I bought this truck brand new. The dashboards cracked in the same exact spot on the corner of the airbag. Need a third dashboard

Dash board/instrument panel cracked and separated from mounting clips dy air bag and over instrument cluster.extremely likely flying object injury possible in any speed accident.this is the second dash in this truck to have the same problem.the first dash was replaced under warranty.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated that the dashboard cracked in a couple of areas over a period of time. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked in a garage the majority of the time. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the failure was an unknown issue and referred the contact to the dealer. The failure was not repaired. Additionally, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags). The failure mileage was approximately 69,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

Cracked dashboard in multiple places.

Everyone is having dash board issues . In the same [xxx] spots.dash cracking up by instrument panel and by the airbag.serious problem here.i don't want my kids to be the victims.that makes it mandatory recall etc. I am a worried parent . And for myself . Please helpparts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Ltz chrome door handles broke on both passenger side doors due to defect on the handles themselves.gm states that these are trim and not considered mechanical (even though they perform a mechanical function) so they aren't recalling them even though this issue is widespread and is a safety issue.in the event a vehicle is involved in an accident and the passengers inside are unconscious or unable to open the door themselves due to injury - this poses a problem if the door handles break as a firefighter or other person from the outside tries to open them.they seriously break that easy - two in the same week.this is a lawsuit waiting to happen and gm knows about this problem they are choosing to ignore it.recall and replace these door handles with ones that can actually open the door before someone gets hurt!

My 79 year old wife badly cut her finger while opening the door of our vehicle. The door handle of my vehicle is plated in chrome. This chrome is now coming undone, and is razor sharp. Today the last of the 4 door handles broke due to defect on the handles themselves. Gm states that these are trim and not considered mechanical (even though they perform a mechanical function) so they aren't recalling them even though this issue is widespread and is a safety issue. If a vehicle is involved in an accident. The passengers inside are unconscious or unable to open the door themselves due to injury , the door handles could break as a firefighter or other person from the outside tries to open them.. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen and gm knows about this problem they are choosing to ignore it. Recall and replace these door handles with ones that can actually open the door before someone gets hurt! i am on high doses of coumadin and if it were my finger i could have bleed to death. Get this recalled please.

My 2008 chevy avalanche has a problem with the driver door and therear door same side not opening or closing with the remote. This could be a safety hazard if i had to get into the vehicle in an emergency because the only door with a key lock is the drivers door.

This afternoon while going out shopping i badly cut my finger while opening the door of my vehicle.the door handle of my vehicle is plated in chrome.this chrome is now coming undone, and is razor sharp.i plan on reporting this to the dealer tomorrow, but would also like register my complaint with nhtsa.

I replaced the tires on my 2008 avalanche ,got a front end alignment and now when i drive it i hear a clunking sound . I looked on the internet and it said that many chevy truck owners have this problem so i was wondering if there was a recallon the steering shaft on these trucks.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated that while driving and towing an ultra light rv trailer at 65 mph, the rear suspension seized. The contact stated that there was smoke coming from the rear suspension. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rear axle seals, rear bearings and gears needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred in less than 100 miles. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000. The vin was not available.

The sway bar frame mount brackets rusted through and the sway bar broke loose. The vehicle was making a right turn maybe 10 miles an hour on a city street.

The dashboard has cracked around the instrument cluster and the air bag. Causing safety hazards. It is obviously a flawed design gm refuses to own up to. The vehicle also has some electrical issue that causes the trucks to come to a stop on the interstate.

Severe cracks have developed in my dashboard at the passenger air bag & above the instrument cluster / speedometer. It is my understanding there have been a multitude of similar issues with other gm models. Appears to be a manufacturing defect w/ the plastic material and / or the manufacture of the dashes. Gm has declined a voluntary recall, even though in an accident, it is likely that shards of the dash could separate & cause severe injuries to the occupants.

Dashboard is beginning to crack above the steering wheel & above the passenger air bag. Seen while vehicle is stopped, but appears to be growing as truck is driven. Date of discovery is approximate - vehicle was purchased used from riverside chevrolet in wetumpka, al.

I too noticed a small crack on the driver's side dash just above instruments. In a very short time, the crack grew to about 8 inches. Now my still, very nice truck makes all kinds of noise from the dash being so loose. I see many complaints about this very same problem but yet gm still doesn't want to fix a well known problem. Now my resale value is going to be far lower. Please can anyone help?many of us have this same problem with our chevy avalanche trucks, which cost about $40,000 new. Gm should be accountable for selling cheaply made dashboards in an expensive truck.

Just noticed rigid plastic dashboard is cracked and compromised. Did a little research online and found this is a recurring issue involving many different models. The concern here is flying shards of a dashboard becoming deadly projectiles. This faulty design should be investigated immediately before harmful effects just so happen to be discovered or even worse, go undiscovered because the exploding shrapnel goes unattributed to the already compromised material in these gm vehicles. Game has already shown a history of denying problems exist with their vehicles,. The consequences that too many families had to endure while gm failed to recall faulty ignition switches speaks to the culture at gm.deny a problem exist, pay settlements on a case by case basis, and only issue a recall when forced to, then just pay a small portion of our profits in fines while avoiding any prison time for deciding it's cheaper to settle with families and the feds with cash then face any real consequences that would be consistent with the safety of motorist who purchase our vehicles.all gm complaints need to be investigated forevermore

2008 chevy avalanche dash cracked in two places .truck is always garage kept and driven slightly with only 22000 mi on it . Don't know when happened ,all of a sudden noticed the cracks .this truck does not bake in the sun . Truck is like new condition, except with ugly dash cracks, one crack over odometer 5"long and another at the air bag ,which makes me wonder what would happen to dash pc if airbag would deploy.

Severe cracking of dash board. Nothing i did caused this. Poor material and design by gm is the only excuse.

Dash and instruments covers cracking.

Dash board began cracking about 4 yrs ago and continues to, and have concerns if in an accident and the airbag deploys where those plastic dash pieces will project.dash also rattles.there is a class action law suit being filed for new models with the same build and issue, but my model yr is not included/eligible because gm was in bankruptcy during that yr.

I am concerned as all other gm owners of a cracked dashboard.my dash is crack in front of the driver seat and by the passenger airbag causing great concern.if the dashboard would shatter during the deployment of the passenger airbag, injury or serious injury could occur from projectile plastic.also, the cracked plastic could puncture of tear the deployed airbag and deflate the protective abilities of this device.

Bought used in the beginning of september 2015 and a month later noticed two cracks in my dashboard (one by the passenger side air bag and the other over the gauge cluster). In november i contacted chevrolet customer service after reading many have had similar problems and they had a dealership look at it at their expense but told me it would take over $1,000 to repair. I feel that if this is a common problem, gm should be responsible for because if i were to get in an accident the dashboard can become pieces of shrapnel and interfere with the airbag deployment.

Dashboard has cracked in four places, which have been patched and repaired, but two of the cracks have reopened. No cleaning products have been used and these cracks have happened in warm climates. Not sure whether the cracks have formed when stationary or in motion.

I bought this vehicle in preowned conditions. I understand it's aged but it doesn't matter if i'm driving on a bumpy road or on a new street, the dashboard rattles so loudly! there are shards of my dashboard missing. Not only is it annoying but i feel like it's dangerous. If in case the driver of the vehicle were to be involved in an accident, the airbag would force those shards at the driver or the passengers and they could be injured pretty badly. It's dangerous!

My dashboard has 2 cracks.a 7" crack over the instrument panel on the driver side and a 1" crack on the passenger side airbag compartment.this is a known issue and gm refuses to acknowledge this.a recall needs to be started.

The dashboard has cracked in several places. It has cracked around the passenger side airbag. I don't know if this has jeopardized the integrity of that airbag or not. Hopefully it hasn't because my wife usually rides in the passenger seat. It has also cracked in several places on the driver's side. It has even made a couple of holes where the cracks ran together and the small pieces fell into the dash and i was unable to retrieve them. And now the dash rattles all the time. This has only affected the portion of the dash that has the airbag and goes over the instruments in front of the driver. The portion closest to the windshield has not cracked at all yet. We have been very proud of our vehicles and have always taken care of them. Not only the maintenance side but the appearance means a lot to us.we just don't understand why gm has neglected to address this situation because this is something they could have stopped early on in production. If they had done so once this became an issue they could have repaired and or replaced a few and made a lot of loyal customers happy. Then they could have changed materials used to make the dashboards and everyone would be happy with no cracks. But they chose to spend their money to fight this in court and their money won. Which in turn made a lot of long time customers very unhappy including ourselves. You think if all the other car manufacturers could build a dashboard that didn't crack they could have too.

Cracked dashboard - 3 major cracks in dash - very lightly used vehicle (73k mi) - dash pieces likely a hazard is case of accident. Dash should not crack under normal use - defective materials/design

The dash has cracked in 2 places, left and right side on the top.appears to be from being stressed or torque.i'm original owner and never place anything on the dash to cause these cracks.pictures attached.concerned about air bag deployment and dash flying off in my face.

My dashboard is so badly cracked it has effected the functionality of the air bags. This an expensive repair and happens to majority of these trucks.

The dash is cracked in two places, also a crack goes over to the air bag. There is a crack in the defrost vent duct. The truck is garage kept.. Truck has never been wrecked.. I do have pictures of the dash.

Dashboard cracked. Safety hazard. This is my second 2008 avalanche. My first one had a dashboard that cracked also. Gm replaced it. I got in an accident and bought another 2008 avalanche. Now the dashboard has cracked in this truck. Gm is refusing to fix it. I have four kids. This is a safety hazard. This needs to be recalled!!!! thank you

Chevrolet has knowingly and willingly placed a dash in my 08 avalanche that is dangerous. The truck has a tk airbag and chevrolet refuses to fix the issue correctly. The dash is cracked, as most gm products from 07-13 are, and now the airbags need to be replaced. The dealership advised me that it would come apart, and that i would need to spend 2 grand to have it repaired. Gm told me on a recorded phone call that they have had several of these reports and that they do not have a "documented solution" for it. They told me i have to choose between the resale value of my truck or the safety of myself and passengers. They are at fault for the dash, as well as the tk airbag. Gm refuses to do anything to make it right after their shotty work.

A crack on the passenger side above the airbag appeared 3 years after i bought the truck. Now the driver side has multiple cracks over the instrument panel. It seems to be getting worse. The back piece of the dashboard is completely loose and flops around on uneven roads. Safety is a concern due to the fact that the plastic is somewhat brittle and may shatter on an accident or ruff roads.i have had a dash cover since new.

Dash is cracked above the left corner of the passenger airbag.my concern is that it will have flying projectiles in the event of an accident where the passenger or side impact airbag deploys.

The dashboard on my chevrolet avalanche is cracked and broken in several places. I believe this to be a serious hazard. Is there a fix for this problem from gm?

Dash panel has cracked by passenger air bag and on driver side above instrument cluster.

Upper dash sections cracked by instrument area and above passenger air bag

My dash has cracked on my 2008 chevrolet avalanche. My 2010 yukon denali also has the same issue. This is a major issue with multiple year vehicles and gm needs to take care of their faithful.if not taken care of i will not buy another gm. Gm needs to own this and do the right thing and stop worrying about just putting money in their own pocket.this is stealing from the consumer and is not acceptable.

I have large cracks in the plastic of the dashboard which is apparently a know problem for the chevy avalanche, surburban, tahoe line of trucks, this could lead to shards of plastic being ejected if the airbags deployed in my opinion

Plastic dashboard is cracking several places. Most of the cracks are around the passenger airbag. The cracks form sharp edges in the plastic. I fear that these sharp objects could become projectiles in a crash.

The dashboard plastic has cracked in several places including the passenger side air bag panel. The plastic is brittle and has sharp edges- it would lacerate a face or arm easily.

On november 21, 2016 i noticed 2 cracks in my dash. One crack approximately 6" long over the instrument cluster and one crack approximate 2" long on the passenger side near the airbag. I am the 2nd owner of this vehicle which i purchased in may of 2012. I have kept it in my garage and installed a dash cover just after purchase. At the time i noticed the cracks, it had 66,800 miles. I average 5000 miles per year.

Oh my 08 avalanche my dashboard is cracked right by the airbag and right above the plaster in front of the steering wheel. My vehicle also automatically lock by itself with the keys in the ignition or not in the ignition

The dashboard has cracked leaving parts loose

The dash of this and other affiliated models are prone to cracking due to a rigid, brittle material and a design that was not fortified or substantial enough to resist the forces of vibration that are common in such vehicles.the dash of my vehicle cracked at the apex of the instrument panel binnacle, the defogger vents at the base of the windshield and surrounding the cover of the pasenger side airbag.to replace the unit would be $1200+ and it would be with a piece of the same design. This is a safety hazard and it is loud and unsightly

Cracked dash out of nowhere . The truck has 22000 garage kept miles and is basically used only for pleasure.dash cracked over speedometer and around air bag. Who knows what happens if airbag would be deployed, what pcs of dash go flying .

My dashboard on my chevy avalanche has been cracked for awhile. I was getting in my truck on the way to work one morning and noticed my dashboard had cracked. Once arriving to work in casual conversation with my coworkers, i mentioned that my dash was cracked. Among the people i was speaking with, 2 of them had the same problem. At the end of my work day i called chevrolet and was told there was nothing they could do about it, i also called on the following day and spoke with someone else and they apologized and told me same thing, nothing that they can do about it.

The dashboard is cracked and cracking worse everyday. I keep very good care of my care. It is cracked around the airbag and if in a wreck the dash will fly apart into pieces throughout the cab.

Cracked dash.

Dashboard has cracked on the driver's side just above the the instrument cluster.in one day the crack has grown to about 8 inches.i have seen several complaints about the same issue, it appears it is a manufacturing defect and should be addressed by gm.

My dash cracked by passenger side airbag and now i have a huge crack above the instrument panel.i know there are hundreds of complaints about the dash cracking.i am along with others are very concerned if we are in accident the pieces of from broken/cracked will cause bodily injuries. To get repaired gm wants consumers to take on expense of fixing their faulty material & construction of dash. What are we "gm" vehicle owners to do?can't sell it or trade bc we would money due this issue.help!!

Dashboard is cracked by airbag which can cause very serious harm to the body with fragments from the dash if airbag if ever deployed. It also can result in deaf due to this problem. Gm need to fix this soon and urgent!

I noticed a small crack on the drivers side just above instruments.in a very short time the crack grew to about 8 inches.so now my still very nice truck makes all kinds of noise from the dash being so loose.i see many complaints about this very same problem but yet gm still doesn't want to fix a well known problem.now my resale value is going to be lower.please can anyone help so many of us that have this problem with there truck that are by no means cheap. Gm should be accountable for selling cheaply made dashboards in an expensive truck.

The vehicle doors will unlock and lock several times while i'm driving, it will also cause the dashboard, clock-radio and onstar system to flicker off and on.then it will start to throw error messages on the dashboard about stabilitrak and theft deterrent systems disabled.

While driving the truck, and stopping at a light or stop sign the truck slips out of gear and you have to put in park and then put it back in drive before it will move. It is scary when this happens because you are scared someone behind you won't be paying attention and rear end us

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet avalanche. While driving approximately 20 mph during rainy weather, the rain sensitive wipers responded at a slow rate. The windshield had a lot of water on it because of the slow response of the wipers; the wipers did not function with snow. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told that there was nothing wrong. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,500 and the current mileage was approximately 30,000.

My 2008 avalanche ltz was parked on the street during a snow storm, after i started it i turned the wiper switch to delay to clear the small amount of snow on the windshield. The wipers moved form park to approximately 1/3 of full travel and stopped. I cleared the windshield with a brush and drove home (1 mile) with some difficulty. I started to troubleshoot the problem, and came to what i thought was a solution, multi-function switch was bad. Replaced switch, sill no wiper movement. Checked the plug at the motor for power (again), power at the plugs hot terminal was 11.8v, turned switch to on (slow speed) and no power to any other pin, now i am stumped. Guess i have to call the dealer.

I have had 5 avalanches 3 07s 2 08s all have dash cracking issues the breaking dashes crack cause glare in drivers eyes noises that can take focus off the road every one i've owned it's happened gm used a proprolyene dash that gets brittle when introduced to heat. 2nd complaint on windshield washer coming on for no apparent reason. I now have the vin #. Comes on and washes window 3 times and is impossible to shut off.

My spare tire is completely stuck under my truck. I have to replace my emissions control valve but can't because the tire won't come out.
