Dt: vehicle has had air bag problems, and it has been in and out of the shop since 12/29/2004. They have not been able to fix it. The light comes on that says to service the air bags.

Rear ended a suv at 40 mph without breaking and the air bagsa did not deploy.

2004 chevy avalanche sir light (service airbag) remains on constantly after several attempts to repair at chevy dealer. When the service airbag light is on, the airbag system will not deploy airbags if involved in an accident. No death or injury yet and hopefully will not be in an accident while driving back and forth to the dealer over and over again. But how much money and time should you spend on something that is out of your control but could cost you your life if an event occurs that you need the airbag to deploy. Tw*

Dt: the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The contact has been having problems with air bags ever since last year. The air bag lightilluminated every time he took the vehicle to the dealership.they said they fixed it andlater the air baglight came on again. The contact took vehicle back to the dealership. The dealership told him that they put sensor on, and done something to the wiring, and every time the air bag light came on. Theair bag light has been coming on since august 9, 2004.from the time that the dealer said that they repaired the vehicle was about three weeks and the air baglight cameon again. Each time the vehicle was taken tot he dealer they replaced the air bag module.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 20-35 mph, the vehicle violently vibrated.total control was lost of the vehicle causing the vehicle to veer into the other lane resulting in the vehicle hitting the side of a mountain. The air bags did not deploy.prior to this incident, popping noises were heard while turning the steering wheel to the left and right going forward and in reverse.the vehicle was towed to the dealership where the dealership determined the passenger side tie rod was broken.there was damage done to the vehicle.there was not a police report filed.

Dt: contact complained about air bag system problem.since vehicle was newly purchased the air bag dash light intermittently went on and off. At allan green chevrolet sales dealer they tried to correct the defect three times without success. Contact took the vehicle to camino real chevrolet, and they could not correct the problem either in two attempts. Contact decided to take the vehicle to a third dealer, osama chevrolet, this one tried four times, and the air bags light continues to come on and off. The road conditions at every incident havebeen normal. Contact expressed concern about this problem because he had no confidencethat the air bags system will work in case of an accident .updated 02/07/06.

No injuries.airbag system flashing on and off on dashboard display intermittently.no particular pattern in driving conditions.took to dealer and paid to have it fixed however after about 5 months it started again.brought it in a second time and again after about 5 months started again.dealer claimed it was bad wire and replaced but was also told airbags would not work if in a collision.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche.the contact stated that the speedometer failed to work at all speeds.the failure has occurred a couple of times.he felt that it was a safety issue that could lead to traffic tickets and a crash.the current and failure mileages were 50,800.

Speedometer not working. Speedometer readings from 100km per hour to 200+ kms per hour.speedometer never returns to zero.

Was driving at a rate i thought was around 65-70 mph but got pulled over for going 84 mph. I explained to the officer i was only going about 68 mph. He then showed me the radar gun and it said 84mph. When i went back to my truck i noticed my gauge was stuck on 18mph i showed the officer and luckily he told me ha had the same problem with his chevy truck and let me off with just a warning. To make things worse all gauges don't work now. I've read some messages online and some people said they got letters to repair this problem. I've been the only owner of this truck since may 2004 and never received anything about this problem. I believe gm should repair the problem because it's a big safety issue. Please help. Thank you

While driving approximately 50 mph my speedometer began to read 120 mph.i consider it a driving hazard (safety) when driving on the highway and in traffic.very distracting.when i investigated on-line i discovered that this is a well documented defect.the cost for repair is over $400 and should not be bourn by the consumer for a known defect.

I was issued a recall a few years back specific to my vehicle about a blower motor operation malfunction.it stated that settings on the blower motor may not function properly.for example, when i turn on the air or heat i have settings for 5 blower motor options.all the settings 1-4 work just fine, setting 5 does not work at all.when i set hvac to setting 5 no air blows out.i have since then misplaced that recall notice.if you have any information on this recall can you please get in contact with methank you

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche.the contact stated that the speedometer would display inaccurate readings and failed intermittently.with the assistance of a navigation system that would read the traveled speed at 55 mph, the vehicle's speedometer would display over 100 mph.in addition, the fuel gauge failed and the oil gauge would display that there was no oil in the vehicle.most of the gauges and components on the instrument panel became inoperable.the dealer stated that there were too many miles on the vehicle to assist and it would not be covered by the extended warranty.the repair cost was estimated at over $1,000.the failure mileage was 92,000 and current mileage was less than 130,000.

New 2004 chevrolet avalanche purchased 08/14/04.on 09/24/04, vehicle stopped on freeway.towed to dealership purchased from, winter chevrolet in pittsburgh, ca.kept for 11 days without information given verbally or in the mail. Continue to have problems.truck again stopped on freeway on 12/27/04.re-started after turning off and waiting a couple minutes.taking back in tomorrow.sales department will not return call regarding trade or return of down.simply patch up the new vehicleand send me out again awaiting next problem.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle the fuel gauge was not displaying the proper amount of fuel. The contact also stated that while driving approximately 65 mph the service lights which tell him if the vehicle was a 2 wheel drive, 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed he would have to pay to have the vehicle to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued to occur intermittently. The failure mileage was 91,000 and the current mileage was 103,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the steering wheel became hot. The components on the steering wheel illuminated and upon further investigation the contact noticed that the wires had melted. The contact also noticed that the radio became very hot and melted the cd inside of the system. The contact also stated that the instrument cluster failed. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they would pay for a new instrument cluster, but not the installation. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 146,000.

Speedometer malfuntions it sticks and or drops to 0 while driving.

Instrument cluster went out mph kept fluctuating, and a/c and heating has a mind of its own goes on and off and in strength of blowing, all this which i hear is common in 04 to 05 chevrolet trucks. Even a chevrolet mechanic told me when fixing my truck said it was pretty common in these years 04- 05 . And he didn't know why it doesn't have a recall.

Dt: the electricity from the automatic control monitor that controls the air conditioningand temperature control on the roof of the truck was causingthe consumer to experiencesevere headaches and she was no longer able to drive the vehicle with the heat or air on. She had to pull the fuse that controlled the monitor because turning it off the wave of electricity was still flowing. The gauss meter that checked the wave of electricity was flashing red when she held it up to her head. It was not suppose to be like that. The symptoms were:her scalp was real tender and swollen, her left side of shoulder and neck was hurting a lot, and she had touse contacts in her left eye because ofvision problems.all of these symptoms were from the automatic control monitor she has never had any of these symptoms prior to this. Since she unplugged the fuse thesesymptoms disappeared, and she felt better. Her concern was that other people driving this vehicle may never be able to figure out what caused these problems and she feltthat this was a severe health risk.

While driving all my cluster gauges froze...i was parked and it still said i was going 40mph...how is this not a recall? no clue how fast i was going, nor how much fuel i had...we should be reimbursed something.

Driving north on 95 at 70 mph ..noticed tach was a 6000 rpm's.and speed was 0 mph ...pulled over shut down truck...restarted ..same results...trucked seemed 2 run fine...so proceeded home ...with no speedometer...and a tach stuck at 6000...googled trouble shooting...avalanche...and here i am ...recall site ...i love this truck...can u fix it 4 me.....[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Oil gauge began to show low pressure then no pressure. Carried to dealer, they replaced oil sensor on engine. Problem still occurs but only after vehicle has been driven for a couple of hours straight. Now the pressure gauge pegs to the right. However, once the vehicle has been turned off for the night, it performs correctly and i have been unable to get it to demo for dealer as it only does it on long trips which occur on weekends and night.

Instrument gauge cluster on 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The speed odometer does not work correctly it goes wherever it wants while driving, the voltage gauge stays on 9. The tachometer does not work right.

While driving or in park the tachometer sticks as does the speedometer.this has lasted from minutes to days.the vehicle appears to run properly, however, i am very leery of my safety and the safety of my children when they are in control of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche.the contact stated that the speedometer failed to work at all speeds.the failure has occurred a couple of times.he felt that it was a safety issue that could lead to traffic tickets and a crash.the current and failure mileages were 50,800.

First the speedometer stopped working, then the tachometer stopped working and the latest is the fuel gauge.

I have a problem with the speedometer showing inaccurate speed on my 2004 chevy avalanche. The problem started while i was slowing from 55mph to 45 mph do to a reduce speed area, the vehicle slowed but the speedometer said at 55mph. It stayed at 55mph even when i came to a complete stop, shut off the vehicle and restarted, when i put the vehicle in gear and started moving again the speedometer began to move up to 60mph when i was traveling approximately 10mph. I sped up a little more and the speedometer climbed more. I slowed down to a stop and this time the speedometer stopped at 60mph while i was at a complete stop. I turned around to go back home as i could not legally judge my speed and as i proceed to travel at my best estimate 50-55 mph the speedometer climbed up past 120mph. When i parked the vehicle at home the speedometer showed 65 mph. I opened the hood, disconnected the battery and let it sit unconnected for approximately hourand then reconnected the battery. This did not help, the speedometer still showed 65mph. I contacted my local chevy dealer and asked them about the problem i was having, they told me that since i have over 40,000 miles on my vehicle that i would have to pay 400 dollars for a new cluster. This is a safety issue and it should be covered under warranty. I can not drive my vehicle for fear of inadvertently speeding and thus getting one of those nice driver awards for speeding. Please help resolve this matter.

The transfer case buttons only light up occasionally but it might be the neutral button that lights up or sometimes the two-wheel drive button.the oil pressure gauge is pegged on the right side of the guage. Yesterday my radio quit working does not even light up.

Speedometer readout stuck at 40mph while vehicle parked. If driven continues up from there and sticks. Next day speedometer resolved itself and rpm gauge is stuck on 6 when it should be reading 2-3, its' been stuck for two months still.

Driving down the interstate my speedometer suddenly quits and says i am driving 120 mph (even while parked).this is a 2004 chevrolet avalanche with only 28,000 miles on it gm needs to recall this because of the frequency this is happening with avalanche owners.

When the consumer attempted to accelerate from a stop, the vehiclehesitated intermittently. The vehicle needed a new alternator, radio system (cd would over heat). *sc

Here's about my disappointment with my 2004 avalanche which i purchased on july 28, 2004 with 137 miles on the odometer.i purchasedthe value guard gm protection plan.of course, the vehicle was great for the first 37,990 miles.my first problem came on 10/31/06, only 2 years 3 months after purchase date.my tailgate handle broke while opening it handle replacement was $568.to my surprise and apparently also to the representative from the dealershipthe existing spoiler had to be torn off and replaced with a new one to access the handle. That was an additional $186 plus labor.i question the designers of the tailgate assembly. Why would anyone design parts that would have to be destroyed in order to service another part?in fact, why would any part that would normally be used frequently by a regular trucker break so easily?of course, neither the warranty nor the gm protection plan covered this.the next problem occurred on 12/27/06 at 41,901 miles, my windshield wipers wouldn't shutoff. Into the dealership we went and $334 later a wiper board was replaced.no warranty again covered this problem.i no sooner got home and had to return on 12/28/06 at 41,944 miles.now my dashboard lightservice 4 wheel drive was on.this time i was told the transfer case encoder shorted out and $779 later it was fixed. I might have used the 4-wheel drive 8-10 times at the most.at that time, i'd owned this vehicle for 29 months, that's pretty sad!!today with the latest episode, i tried to lower my front passenger side window and it wouldn't work.the other 3 windows work fine.i waited and tried again later still no luck. I hear a clicking sound but no action.this probably means another visit to the dealer.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated the speedometer and rpm gauges have stopped working.the contact stated he should be able to see how fast he is driving and does not feel safe driving the vehicle. The failure was diagnosed and the contact stated the instrument cluster needs to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle identification number was not available. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 130,600.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at 60 mph the vehicle lost power without warning causing the speed to decrease to 30 mph.the sudden loss of power occurred ten times, but the vehicle was taken to the dealer on six occasions for inspection of the problem.the dealership replaced the throttle body twice, but the problem persists.updated 2/7/2006 -

Speedometer not working at all reads over 120 mph even when turned off.all windows get stuck when trying to close them.

2004 avalanche defective speedometer dealership refuses to repair even though the had a common problem with them.

First the speedometer stopped working, then the tachometer stopped working and the latest is the fuel gauge.

2004 chevrolet avalanche speedometer stops working.also never received any recalls for chevrolet on this 2004 avalanche.

Starting in november of 2006, the speedometer has not operated correctly.when sitting at a stop, it registers 30-50 mph and when actually driving, it goes to 120 and stays there.does not come back down until vehicle is turned off. This is a very serious issue - or is it chevrolet's way of earning extra money?the dealer wants to charge over $1500 to fix the problem since due to mileage we are out of warranty.

Over the last few months i have noticed that my 2004 chevy avalanche speedometer suddenly goes off by 10-80 miles an hour.there are no events that "cause" this to occur, it appears to do it randomly.i notice it when the vehicle suddenly appears to be going faster or slower than the speed indicated.i tried contacting the dealer for repair but they have ignored my online repair appointment submittal.the upsetting part is that my warranty just ran out.this is a major problem and needs to be fixed.luckily my cell phone has gps and will indicate ground speed.i can use it to verify the vehicle speed.i am lucky that i have not gotten a ticket or killed.i have a photo of my speedometer nearly pegged out at 115 miles an hour to prove it.i have never driven my vehicle that fast.i heard that others are having problem with gm suv speedometers.this appears to be a wide spread problem.

My 2004 avalanche speedometer started sticking, first i thought i was going about 45 mph, when i realized that i was passing everyone. I accelerated and noticed that the speedometer didn't move. Now it sticks at various speeds and stays that way. It has gone past 120 mph. Gm really needs to look at this problem and fix it. This is a serious safety issue.especially on reduced speed curves and construction.is gm waiting for a fatality to issue a service recall?

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche.while driving 45 mph, the speed control stopped working.the speedometer needle was not registering any speed.the contact attempted to receive assistance from chevrolet, but was unsuccessful.chevrolet stated that they were not responsible due to the mileage on the vehicle.the current mileage was 76,104 and failure mileage was 72,000.

Speedometer stops working, sticksor reads too low or too high. Very dangerous.

The speedometer on the 2004 chevrolet avalanche works intermittently it will indacate that thespeed is 65 mph when i am actuauly going 75 mph. Sometimes it will read the opposie or not at all. General motors has indicated that this is not a safety problem.this is a safety issue. It is very dificult to exit the highway onto a ramp when you are not sure how fast you are going.

My 2004 chevy avalanche's speedometer has been sticking on 65 for a week now. Today it completely went out and stays on 0 mph now.i have no idea what i am going to do now other than not drive it until i can afford to repair it. Every bit of research i have done on this matter shows that thousands of other people are having the same problem. I baby my truck and take excellent care of it. It has 66,000 miles on it.

My 2004 avalanche speedometer and tachometer read completely inaccurate. Example=shows me going 120mph and 3000m rpm with motor off.i bought the vehicle used from a chevy dealer and was told it had warranty remaining. When the problem began last year i was told it was not warranted. I lacked the money for the replacement and have been driving it broken. Now i am finding out through other avalanche owners that it has been being fixed by dealers at no charge as there have been so many problems. I feel this should be a recall. I know my vehicle now has 110,000 miles, but i can document by law enforcement notes on a ticket i received last year that i had the problem about 30,000 miles ago. I feel this should be repaired at no expense to me.they told me when i called that their parts dept had a long waiting list for the replacement panel so you know ?chevrolet knew they had a widespread problem.thank you. I hope to hear back from you.also at about the same time my abs/brake light started coming on after i drive a few miles.i don't know if it is as common of a problem or related to the instrument panel problem or not.

I have a 2004 chevrolet avalanche with 38,456 miles and the speedometer is erratic.it began yesterday, 12/25/06 while driving to my family's christmas dinner.i was on the freeway 70 mph and the speedometer needle jumped to 95 mph without me accelerating.i exited the freeway, came to a complete stop and the speedometer needle registered 35 mph. This morning 12/26/06, the speedometer is still incorrect.it now registers 20 mph in park.i have researched this on the internet and this seems to be a common problem with chevy trucks/suv's 2003 or newer.it seems gmc needs to issue a recall.repair cost seem to start at $500 and go up.from what i was able to decipher, the "cluster" needs to be replaced.

Gas gauge not working always showing emty speedometer not working correctly sensor light keeps comming on and off.

The contact owns 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The contact was driving 55 mph when the rpms increased. The contact had difficultyswitching gears and the vehicle lost power. The windshield wipers would not shut off unless the contact restarted the vehicle. The transmission and the water pump failed completely. The driver side door handle broke and the contact cannot get out of the vehicle unless she climbs over the passenger seat. The speedometer only displayed 10 and 20 mph whenever it was cold outside.the failure mileage was 23,965 and the current mileage was 97,323.

I own a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The speedometer began going out at 60,000 miles, and now the gas gauge and tachometer occasionally fail. I have 123,000 miles on my vehicle. The local dealer, ryan chevrolet, informed me that gm would have fixed it prior to 72,000 miles. I found this out after 85,000 miles.

My 2004 chevy avalanche is having a problem with the speedometer.i was on a cross country trip and it started going past 120 when i was driving 10 mph in the snow!!! the it sticks at whatever speed it feels like sticking on.. My rpm gauge has been acting a bit funny also. It didn't work at one point just last night. I turned the truck off and restarted it. I can been able to "reset" the speedometer by almost turning the truck on until it gets back to "0", but i am afraid this will eventually break my starter. This is a safety issue (even though gm says it is not) because if speed wasn't a factor in auto safety we wouldn't have speed limits! how can a consumer be safe if they cannot tell how fast they are driving?

1) i haven't replaced anything, or done anything that would cause this to happen.2) a-problem that im experiencing is that when my avalanche is sitting still in the driveway the speedometer shows that i am doing 30 to 40 miles per hour. When i drive on the freeway it completely stops working and goes to over 120 mph.b-my drivers side window doesn't work either, the motor slowly started giving out about two months ago. Now it doesn't work at all.it seems like many more chevy avalanche owners have the same issue;http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-avalanche/tji11lgm9554merna3)the only thing i did for the window not working was check some fuses that were good.

The speedometer has malfunctioned on several occasions.most recently july 24, 2007.i was driving down a highway and it jumped to 75mph -approx 20mph faster than i was actually doing.upon coming to a complete stop, the needle settled on 21-22mph mark. The needle doesn't move smoothly either.it jitters as it moves and jumps more as it is fixing to come to a rest.after turning the vehicle off, then back on - the needle will fall about 5mph.i had turn shut off / restart several times to get the needle back to 0mph.today, i drove to work and didn't see a problem outside of a jittery needle.previously the speedometer has stopped all together while driver and settle on 0 mph or will max at 35mph while driving.at these instances i would pull over, turn the vehicle off and back on to no avail.however, opening the door, which i guess turns off the electricity to the vehicle (radios goes off when door is opened), seemed to reset everything.a few things concern me about this.*i am fixing to take it to a dealer, but i believe my warranty is out and they will not fix it without huge $$$$.*i had purchased a brand new 2003 cavalier and had the same thing happen to the instrument cluster.luckily, i caught it very soon after, and during warranty, and was able to have it fixed for free. I'm not sure what the dealer will say but i'm not very optimistic about it right now.

My speedometer quit working. This is a known defect with the 2004 avalanche. Other things that have went wrong are the gas gauge doesn't work. This to me is a big safety issue. You cant tell how fast you are going.

Speedometer does not show the correct mph.

2004 gm avalanchehave only 38,000 miles on truckspeedometer reads 120 when going 50 mile per hourwill not zero out.safety issue. I have read 100's of postings with the same problem.dealer wants over $700 to repair. Not right after spendinglot for the truck this should be a recall.

My trucks speedometer cluster does not work and wont work. Its stays at 0 mph.

I have a 2004 chevrolet avalanche z66 and it has 45k miles on it. The speedometer has stopped working. It either sticks in one spot or jitters but i can be in park and it says i am going 60 mph. Gm has not recalled this although i found a website www.topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-avalanche/tji11lgm9554merna and there are 46 posts on this website of people having the same problem with the 04 avalanche and gm has not recalled it yet.

I did an internet search to see what causes a speedometer to go out and to my surprise there are many people who have had their speedometer to go out on this model vehicle.most people experienced this problem around 30,000 miles.it would benefit consumers if this problem were addressed by the manufacturer.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated that the speedometer and rpm gauges did not display the correct information. The dealer stated that the instrument panel cluster module failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 70,000. Updated 12/01/14*lj updated 5/7/2015

No events before speedometer started to stick i was driving on interstate when my needle showed 90 mph but i felt like i was doing 70 mph and when i finally stopped it showed 40 mph and now when driving on interstate i don't know how fast i am going but it shows 120 mph i am driving by rpms i know between 2000 and 3000 rpms i should be around 80 mph.

I have a 2004 chevrolet avalanche.the speedometer failed while i was traveling down the interstate and now does not work.i understand this is a trend in 2003-04 chevrolet's.recommend a recall to fix this ongoing problem.

Several instances where the speedometer read 0 mph when traveling at various speeds.one instance where the speedometer read 120 mph when traveling at 65 mph.always occurs during first trip in morning and then seems to reset when it has been shut-down and a period of time has passed.

Speedometer jumps all over the place, causing the vehicle to speed up or slow down dramaticaly if the cruise control is on. When stopped the speedometer may stick at any mph other than zero.

The speedometer in my 2004 chevrolet avalanche quit working.previously, it had temporarily stuck or hesitated occasionally but then was okay. Now it doesn't work at all. The odometer and all the other gauges/instrument cluster indicators are still working. Obviously, not knowing ones' speed creates a significant safety hazard.in order to correct this failure the dealer stated the instrument cluster gauges would have to be removed and sent to the gm repair/replace facility in texas. Cost; approximately $400.00 dollars and take 7-10 days. Since my avalanche has 42,000 miles this is not covered by the warranty, and is to costly for me to repair at this time.

Vehicle started experiencing a gradual coolant loss, found out vehicle has a manufactured faulty cylinder head(s) from castech. Will cost $$$$ to repair. Gm will not address the problem except with gm #06-06-01-019b information on gradual coolant loss over time with no evidence of leak found, (june 12, 2007).

Dt: vehiclewas purchased 1 year ago andcontinues to stall.it stalls at high speeds.has taken it to the dealer, he says it is a fuel pump issue, they have replaced the fuel pump, and the problemis still there. Chevrolet says this effects vehiclesabove 5000 feet. And on hot days.consumer lives at 6000 feet andvehicledoes stall at high speeds.

When setting at idle, there's vibration, rough idle, and slight engine surge.vibration can be felt in steering wheel, brake pedal, and in seat.dealer response:engine not misfiring and fuel mixture is correct.no clues found.engine is running normal at this time.concern not verified.no repair attempted.

Consumer 2004 avalanche sometimes will not start and stalls while driving.***no answer required***the dealer attempted to solve the problem but failed several times.the consumer's wife experienced this problem while traveling at high speeds, losing the power brakes and power steering.on another incident, the consumer's wife was turning into an intersection with a sufficient amount of time and the vehicle stalled again, nearly causing a serious accident.*sc

My 2004 avalanche is smoking coming from the tail pipe when i start it.

The headlamps, parking lamps, fog lamps, and daytime running lamps have condensation form on the inside of the lenses during cold weather after the lights have been turned on. I started to notice a strong gas smell whenever i fully filled the gas tank.the odor would disappear after the needle moved off the full mark.later investigation showed gas droplets coming down from the top of the fuel tank when it was full or near full.subsequent examination by gm dealership revealed rusted out fuel module (pump/sender unit) locking ring and rust hole in top of fuel module.examination required gas tank to be removed.labor and fuel module replacement cost = $1000.00.of more importance, the above allowed both fuel and gas fumes to exit the gas tank, creating a dangerous situation for vehicles parked in an enclosed area.

Rear hydraulic brake lines rotted and leaked fluid causing loss of braking. Last year i had to have the rear brake calipers replaced due to excessive rust and rot. The mechanic performing current repairs stats that the front hydraulic lines are rusting and will have to be replaced soon. The front calipers have rotted out bleeder valves. The front calipers will have to be replaced as a result when the front hydraulic lines are replaced.check engine light was diagnosed to an evaporative emissions system leak. The leak was traced to a damaged plastic fitting connected to the fuel pump at the top of the fuel tank. The fuel pump metal was rotted causing the jointto expand damaging the fitting and causing the leak. I do not trailer a boat and the truck has never been immersed in salt water. I have been driving for over 40 years and have never had this amount of undercarriage rust and metal damage on any vehicle i have owned with many more miles and years of service.

Started smelling a strong odor of gas after filling up. I checked under the truck and saw gas that seem to be coming from the top of the gas tank and dripping off the bottom of the gas tank.

Module kit,f/tnk f/pmp,lvl s/fuel pump module assembly is leaking fuel, becase of poor grade plastic and metal construction, this also happened on my 2002 trailblazer but was covered by a recall,no such recall covers my 2004 avalache even though it is the same problem, cost to fix 870.89 estimate, to remove gas tank and replace fuel pump module assembly, cant send pics have drop gas tank and that cost is 250.00, vehile stars slowly then when parked empties fuel lines on top of tank then on to ground very dangerous, service manager big jim 319 261 0999 , says this is a common problem, he knew what it was before inspecting on houste, if 2002 is covered why is 2004 not covered? want my 1000.00 back from gm

I have experienced two separate incidences where upon acceleration the tailgate has dropped causing it to fall extremely hard on the rear bumper. One of the times we were on the freeway with heavy traffic causing us to immediately pull to the side of the road so our luggage did not fall out onto the road which would have caused an accident.

4x4 transmission began locking and slipping. Developed a distinctive "clunking" sound when shifting betweengears. Now most noticeable between second and third. Additional grinding sound occurs when driving. Noticeable at all speeds. *dt

Second chevy 04 that transmission went in my first was a tahoe now my avalanche! all this money into vehicles and they don't last 50,000 miles or with my truck 75,000 what is wrong with chevy transmissions? we traded tahoe in for a subaru and my next truck will not be a chevy even though i have alot of money on my gm credit card towards a new vehicle!

During acceleration (taking foot off acclerator stops noise) a grinding noise appears to be coming from rear axle or transmission.noise is intermittent, occurs approximately 4-5 times per week.have not been able to identify unique conditions that cause occurrence.noise will generally only occur for a single acceleration and after it goes away, it is unknown when it will return.

Drove off a parking lot at about 20mph and the transmission quit. Reverse works and all the low gears work out not on automatic mode.

Vehicle transmission failed at 73,500 miles.vehicle just stopped in middle of highway while traveling at approx 45 miles per hour.subsequent rebuild by mechanic revealed that gm had installed incorrect valve body gaskets in the transmission, likely contributing to the premature failure.

I have problem with the brake system, and the transmission fluid came out from the from front passenger side. I took it to the chevy dealer, but i was told that the transmission clutch was burned out, maybe it an defected transmission or recall, im not sure, but i do know that the transmission and the brake system are not in safe conditions, nor workable. Not to mention the cracking noise in the front of the suspension, while turning.

While driving on freeway vehicle was revving up, immediately exited freeway and found transmission was gone, vehicle would not go in reverse, did drive in neutral. Vehicle has only 30k miles. Took vehicle to transmission mechanic stated the chevy avalanche and denali are known for this, and feels this is a factory defect. His vehicle too went out at 20k miles.my cousin transmission too went out at 50k miles, would like to have dealer repair my vehicle. How many more vehicles does the nhtsa need to complain about so the matter can be corrected by the dealer(s) or manufacture.

My husband, my two children and i were all in our 2004 chevrolet avalanche k1500, headed to church on sunday morning, going down the street we live on.my husband, who was driving, turned on the cross street.all of a sudden, every one heard a big clunk, like some thing had dropped.the car would not move forward.my husband drove our vehicle backwardsall the way home.it was parked for a few weeks, while we contacted aaa, the manufacturer, and local chevy dealerships to find out about repair and warranties.we believe this is a failure of the transmission.this vehicle has about 39000 miles, just over the written warranty, which is 36000.the manufacturer has not yet offered to pay for the repairs but advised us to take it in to the chevy dealership to confirm the diagnostics.the vehicle is currently be tested by a chevrolet dealership in redding, ca.the dealership has contacted the manufacturer to find out what they will do to repair the confirmed "transmission" problem.this is an expensive repair that has resulted in our loss of use of a vehicle that was within its normal expected use and represents a substantial financial burden.i have also contact the federal trade commission.i was please to know that the vehicle may still be within its implied warranty (first four years) and the right to revoke purchase may be an option if the manufacturer and dealership refuse to correct the problem at no cost to us. I am concerned that the problem, however, may be more widespread, and felt i should report this defect of the chevrolet avalanche 2004 k1500, for further investigation in case other owners have the same issue.

Transmission or other electrical device failed allowing my 2004 chevrolet avalanche to roll backwards into a lake.

(1) 2005 chevrolet avalanche 1500. 119,000 miles, 95% interstate.vehicle does not tow, go off road, or engage in other activities which would increase the stress on the drive train beyond normal wear and tear.transmission has received regular maintenance per the manufacturers recommendations.(2) part failed during merge onto highway from complete stop.failure resulted in a power loss to vehicle, making acceleration very difficult and maximizing vehicle speed at 35 mph.traffic behind vehicle had to significantly slow down to avoid accident.(3) dealer replaced torque converter and immediately shipped part off site before request for returned part.dealer claims customer abuse.

May 2006 electronic switch replaced because 4 wheel drive was engaging without being activated.had been to dealership several times with problem and finally had them admit there was a problem.feb 2008 front wheel drive had to be replaced as it was a possibility that it could lock up while driving.out of warranty so i had to pay $1,300.00 in repairs.contacted gm exec offices and they investigated only to advise they could do nothing because the car warranty 35,000 miles had expired and car had 65,000 miles on it.i think the front end drive was damaged when the switch failed and it took time for it to fail.

Dt:the contact complained about rack and pinion steering problem. The vehicle clanged while changing gears.when putting pressure on the accelerator pedal and driving between 60 - 70mph he couldhear a whining sound. When he released the accelerator pedal the noise stopped.the dealership replaced the driveshaft but, this did not correct the problem.

No injuries, the passenger shoulder seat belt of the 2004 avalanche catches and stays tight until you completely release the seat belt. Has happened many times and continues to do so. Want to know if there is a recall.

Rear seat (middle seat) belt restraint- failed to retract. Dealer replace restraint.

I was traveling west on wendover avenue in greensboro, north carolina approximately 8:20 am on thursday october 2, 2014. While traveling a traffic signal was turning red and i began slowing. As i was attempting to slow down the brake pedal continued to travel to the floor and the brake light warning and service brake system light came on. I was quickly closing in on the vehicle in front of me and reduced my speed by standing on the braked and using engine speed shifting from drive to 3rd to 2nd and then to first gear. I was able to stop within a foot of the car in front of me. After this i pulled over to inspect my vehicle. I located a blown brake line that was severely corroded on the drivers side along the frame of the vehicle. Brake fluid was leaking out. In addition, the other brake lines appear to be extremely corroded as well. This is a major concern considering brakes are such a critical component to safe driving. It appears the brake lines are not made for a suitable quality for such a critical system. The exhaust pipe, which is under the vehicle as well, is not corroded and is made out of suitable quality material. If there are other vehicles out there on the road with similar materials the results may be injurious or deadly. Please help to address and rectify this situation with chevrolet.

While pulling out of driveway, pressure was applied to the brakes to stop at the end of the driveway. The brake pedal immediately went straight to the floor with the alarm then coming on in the vehicle to service brakes.there was no resistance or stopping power to the brakes. Using the emergency brake the vehicle was stopped before it went across the street into the ditch. The vehicle was backed up into the driveway and a puddle of brake fluid was found under the drivers side door area of the vehicle. Upon inspection, it was noted that the metal high pressure brake lines had rusted and ruptured leaking brake fluid causing the failure.

My son had borrowed the truck and was returning it with his 4 and 5 year old sons in the vehicle.he was in a traffic circle and had to brake to avoid an accident.immediately afterwards the brake failure warning came on and the truck had no brakes. Fortunately he was only going about 25 mph and was able to park it on the shoulder and no one was injured.i was able to get it to a local dealer for repair to the tune of $1,952.they diagnosed the problem as a rusted brake line that ruptured and damaged the left caliper. We got no prior warning of the brake failure. In 2012 i also had a sudden brake failure while leaving a parking garage. There was no prior warning or indication that the brakes were not functioning. Again i took it to a local dealer and was told that there was a leak in the master cylinder and ihad to have that replaced. No one mentioned anything at that time about rusting brake lines. Although the truck is 11 years old it only has 67,871 miles.

Put on brakes to avoid car slowing in front of me.brake pedal went to the floor and had almost no brakes.had to swerve drastically to avoid hitting the other car.mechanic checked the truck the next day and found corroded brake lines had failed.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. While driving approximately 7 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The abs warning indicator illuminated. The emergency brake was engaged and the vehicle failed to stop. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake lines were rusted and the vehicle had multiple brake leaks. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

I use my avalanche only in the summer to tow a small trailer in my community. I used it in the winters from 2004-2008. I was backing the truck up and applied my brakes and smelled smoke and my brake light went on. I looked under the truck and it was leaking brake fluid. I got down under the truck to get a better look and noticed the brake line was completely rusted through causing all the fluid to leak out. My wife drove the truck to the grocery store that morning and i am so thankful this happened in my driveway because the brakes were fine one minute and it only took a second for the fluid to come out. In seconds i did not have any brakes. This is the first truck i have owned and i am shocked that something like this could happen. Brake lines should be much stronger than what i have on the truck. This is not something that you check on a regular basis. I don't use this truck for off road, plowing, driving in the snow. This is supposed to be a strong vehicle that cost me $44,000 in 2004. I would have been killed if this happened while i was on the road.

My husband, 3 year old, any myself were driving back from a doctor appointment when we had to make a sudden stop because of a driver 2 cars ahead of us that quickly applied brakes to make a quick right hand turn.the driver in front of us in turn had to apply his breaks on and when my husband applied the brakes on our 2004 chevrolet avalanche there were no brakes!! our 3 year old was asleep in the backseat!! we hit him of course because we could not stop (going downhill on a busy highway) we ended up having to coast up the hill in the middle of the lane because there was nowhere safe for us to pull off .there were almost several other accidents due to it being a blind spot for drivers coming over the hill both ways and we were stuck there because we had no way to stop ourselves again.so after all that we ended up needing our truck towed and the brake lines are corroded and had busted!! so not only do we have a tow bill now we are responsbile for replacing them!the estimate is $800!!! thanks gm! we will be selling this one soon!gm won't do a recall on these after all the complaints and accidents about the brake lines on here? seriously?we had no clue about any of this until today!the mechanic that is fixing ours today told us he has 2 more that have the exact same issue and have to be replaced on theirs too! i guess it takes people dying or getting seriously injured before the car manufactures have to take responsibility.and what makes it even worse is that the whole brake line replacement is available (for us to purchase) and it's only about $160!! nice to know the safety of our family, friends, and other motorists aren't worth it to them.just 2 miles earlier we drove though a school zone!!!!!as the kids were leaving for the day! thank god they lasted that 2 extra miles and no one was seriously injured or killed.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. While reversing at a low speed, the brake pedal was depressed but it took a longer distance to stop the vehicle. The brake warning light illuminated and service brake system was displayed across the message board. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact discovered that one of the brake lines had fractured. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 39,000.

Catastrophic brake failure when attempting to stop vehicle at 45 miles per hour.brake peddle went to floor almost causing a major crash.gmc dealer stated brake lines totally rusted out and ruptured causing total brake failure.dealer stated brake lines disintegrated in the technicians hands when the tech was removing old lines.i have read similar experiences from other gm owners on the internet.this is a major safety issue which if it has not thus far will result in injury and or death.i am one of the lucky ones who was able to avoid an accident.i am sure this wont be the same outcome for others.dealer info: ultimate buick gmc5150 jefferson davis highway fredericksburg va 22408 tel # 540-898-6200 service advisor ian doughtyro339073thanks for any assistance in addressing this safety issue.

Rear brake likes blew out due to corrosion. Brake lines corrode at each point that they are fastened to the vehicle. No other major corrosion on the vehicle. Front brake lines also corroded but not yet to the point of failure. Stopping the truck was almost impossible.

Hi have a 2004 chevrolet avalanche and have had nothing but problems with brake lines, transmission and the body is completely rotting out really pathetic as this vehicle was so expensive and wondering if there are any recalls as there should be?

When braking the pedal was sinking all the way to the floor.i pumped brakes and was able to stop.had a leak of brake fluid so filled brake fluid and attempted to drive home/closer to my mechanic.i was at a complete stop at a traffic light when my brake pedal sunk to the floor and my vehicle started to roll forward towards cross traffic.i pumped brake pedal but no effect.i shifted into neutral and was able to stop long enough to put vehicle in park.called a tow to mechanic.was told my brake line had rusted out.he fixed 2 lines.with in a week (5/8/15) i had another leak of brake fluid.another tow to mechanic.he fixed another brake line.on 5/24/15 another brake line broke.another tow.mechanic is replacing the remaining 5 lines.all in all cost is over $1000 to fix.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated while driving 25 mph attempting to engage the brakes, the vehicle failed to stop and the pedal pressed to the floor. The contact had to engage the emergency brakes in order for the vehicle to stop. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the brake line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000. The vin number was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated that the brake system failed when the brake pedal was depressed and the brake system failed to engage. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the power booster and the abs system were severely corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 136,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated that while in his driveway, he attempted to engage the brakes but the pedal sunk into the floor. The contact mentioned that once he inspected the vehicle he noticed brake fluid leaking on the rear differential. The vehicle wasnot taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 46,000.

Turning the corner without any notice, the brake line apparently broke and the brake pedal went to the floor.brake fluid went everywhere- was able to pull over and use the emergency brake to stop, but god forbid if i was on a freeway or was pulling my boat!could have been catastrophic!upon further investigations, all of the brakelines showing under the driverside wheel well are corroded badly and will need replaced.i have owned alot of cars/trucks and never had to replace a brake line.the costs i have been quoted are upward of 1500.00 to repair due to the poor design and that the parts have to be ordered specifically for this vehicle.this should not be happening on a 2004 vehicle with the low miles it has.

When backing out my driveway i stepped on the brake and pedal went to the floor leaving brake fluid all over driveway. Group of brake lines along side of frame were totally rusted into a glob of rust.

Started my chevrolet, started backing up down an incline of my driveway, "service brakes" indicator illuminated. Brake pedal sank to the floor. No brakes. Opened hood and the front left wheel brake line (cheap steel) was shooting brake fluid everywhere and all over the engine. It's going to a chevrolet dealership tomorrow for repairs.

While driving in town locally, the braking system failed while trying to stop at a traffic light. I was able to eventually stop the truck by applying extreme pressure on the brake pedal. I pulled the truck over safely & noticed brake fluid on the ground under the driver's door. I had the truck towed to a local mechanic who inspected the braking system. All of the brake lines under the driver's door were severely rusted along with the one line that had failed.

The brake line burst as i was shifting into drive could not stop vehicle, shifted it into park and was able to stop before hitting someone. Why are these lines not made of stainless steel? better yet why is this agency not doing anything about this? they jump all over a key switch that may cause a problem but do nothing for something as important as be able to safely stop our vehicles.

My son was going to the store and when he applied the brake the pedal went to the floor and he had no brakes. After he parked the truck he noticed a puddle of fluid under the drivers side in front of the rear wheel. When i returned home i filled the brake reservoir i had my wife push the brake peddle and i found the leak in the rusty brake line.

While moving the truck around in the driveway we noticed fluid on the ground. Upon further investigation we noticed inside the drivers wheel well that some lines had fluid on them. I brought the vehicle to the dealer and they said the brake lines had rusted out. Luckily we had not had an accident. I had to have two of the lines replaced. This was not covered by the extended warranty because lines of any kind are not covered.

Driving in heavy traffic on i 95 south on the way to vacation, brakes failed when i attempted to slow down.i rear ended another vehicle.had truck in shop for week and found several problems with lines and 2 leaks. I heard that there is a known metal defect with 2001-2004 brake lines.i can't find any recall information.

Brake lines corroded to the point of failure causing a loss of braking at 35 miles per hour. Dealer will replace entire trucks brake lines extensive repair. Personally know a friend with a 2002 chevrolet that had the same problem. The repair center he repaired his truck at informed him that they replaced four other chevrolet trucks brake lines in the last six months. I have been driving for forty years and never replaced brake lines on a car some with over 150,000 miles on them.

While driving my 2004 chev, avalanche down a dirt road i experienced a loud noise coming from the rear of the vehicle.as i slowed down the sound got louder and gave a snap sound.i was alble to keep the vehicle on the road, but later learned i was experiencing a cracked alinium rim.we have called the dealer ship as the truck has 17,500 miles on the rim.they need to inspect the old rim to make sure we did not damage it in any way.why would i ?it is so hard to change a tire on the avalance, not to mention i could have been killed.if the tire passes inspection then we might have a new rim.

I had absolutely no warning that my brakes were failing.on a downward slope of road, (old route 23s) in cedar grove, as i was approaching a light with vehicles at a stop. My brakes were giving way and were not allowing me to stop completely.i kept on pumping them in hopes that the hydraulics would kick in; they did not.as i approached the stopped vehicles, i was ready to use my emergency break but the light turned green, i was able to continue with the travel & veered into the intersection's turn to pull over onto the shoulder where i used the emergency brake to stop and called aaa to be towed.my mechanic called me with the 'extensive amount of problems' that my brake lines are enduring.one is busted completed; the others are completely rusted and all need replacement.i have been without a vehicle for 4 days so far and am waiting to see what the true 'damages' are going to be as far as expense.i am happy that i didn't hit any other vehicles or injury anyone.i am disappointed that i had no warning and am now living without my truck and a huge repair bill on my wallet.

Rear metal brake line burst while maneuvering in parking lot, losing rear service brakes.brake fluid was gushing from burst line onto ground.a quick examination revealed burst brake line is completely rusted.vehicle passed state inspection and 27 point safety inspection performed by gm dealer this past july.during the first week of august, i towed my son's disabled vehicle back from central pa.(140 miles).with the tow dolly and his car - i was pulling close to 4000 pounds.can you imagine if this line burst on interstate 80 at 55 mph?when does this horror end?this vehicle has previously encountered sudden and unexpected brake failure due to metal brake lines rusting to the point of sudden failure.see nhtsa odi number: 10268917.additional detail and pictures regarding rusting brake lines on my vehicles can be seen at: http://sites.google.com/site/gmbadbrakes/.

I own a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The abs activates almost at every stop, even on dry pavement. In researching this problem i have found that there are many complaints on-line for the same problem. I also found that there is a recall for this problem for earlier model years but not for 2004. It seems apparent that the 2004 model year should be included. I have already paid a great deal of money to have the brakes, wheel bearings and speed sensors replaced. And the problem persists. I have to exercise extreme caution every time i stop for fear of rear ending the vehicle in front of me. Any help you can provide will certainly be appreciated by myself and all those affected.

When i slow down at low rates of speed, occasionallythe brakes began to pulsate as if in the abs mode. I was toldthat it was because of the corrosion on the abs speed sensors, located within the wheel bearing assembly, formed by road salt.this problem just appeared without warning or provocation. When operating the vehicle and low speeds, stopping distances are lengthen by 10 to 30 percent. There has been a recall on this type of vehicle for several years in other states. For some inexplicable reason, it does not pertain to wisconsin.even after all of these years, the part to repair my truck remains on backorder.the dealer/manufacturer can only provide them if i purchased the wholebearing assembly which is quadruple the price of the part that i need.of course, i feel that this is unfair and while i wait for the appropriate part to repair my truck, i am putting my safety, as well as others, in jeopardy (this is sad to say but i am not using prudent decision-making skills).i believe that it is fair to say that if there were not others in the area having this exact same problem, the part would not be on backorder throughout the dealerships in wisconsin.i believe that this matter should be look into and addressed and refunds given to those who have paid the enormous price of this repair simply because it is a known defect and because this defect is a safety hazards.

Letter from congressman carney on behalf of constituent re his concerns about rusted brake lines in gm vehicles.*njthe consumer experienced sudden and unexpected brake failure due to a metal brake line that had ruptured and was rusted. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor. Fortunately, the consumer was able to bring the vehicle to a slow and safe stop. An inspection revealed all the brake lines under the drivers side door were severely rusted and were leaking braking fluid.the dealership replaced the brake lines to the front brakes, the master cylinder, abs control module as well as the rear backing plates and right rear caliper that were severely rusted.

Anti lock brakes intermittently but suddenly engaging at low speed stops, on dry pavement, such as when slowing down for a stop light.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated that while attempting to stop, the brake pedal extended to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who inspected the brakes and informed the contact that the brake line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified. The failure mileage was 69,500.

A few weeks ago the abs and brake service light came on while driving at low speeds. It stayed on for one day and then it happened again a week later.it has gradually happened more frequently and more randomly as well. The shop has not found any structural problems and suggested that the abs module be changed. The problem is random within the same kind of drive. Sometimes, if i stop the truck and restart it, on the third attempt the abs light doesn't come up.there have been recalls for the 2002 models but not this year. I believe the problem still exists with other models.

Contact owns a 2004 chevrolet avalanche. While driving 55 mph the brakes failed completely while trying to slow the vehicle down. The contact was able to drive the vehicle into the grass to slow the vehicle down. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic who stated that the c-clip was missing which disconnected the brake shaft from the pedal. The c-clip has been repaired. The contact is aware of the safety risk since the brake failure could have caused a crash. The current and failure mileages were 53,000. Updated 10/06/09. *ljupdatd 10/08/09

When replacing (for the first time) the rear brakes on my 2004 chevrolet avalanche at 28,767 miles, i was informed by the dealership that the rear rotors had severe corrosion. The rotors were pitted such that they would require replacement. I asked about my 3-year bumper-to-bumper warranty because there was nothing i did to cause the defect. The dealership said that gm would not warranty the rotors. I contacted gm to inquire about the corrosion and their warranty as published in the sales brochure and warranty booklet. Plus, i have owned gm products for 30 years and never had any corrosion; brakes or otherwise. They replied that there was no defect in the parts; and that's it. As far as they are concerned, case closed.

Dt*:the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, a braking situation occured, and extra effort was needed to stop the vehicle.the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic shop, where the mechanic stated that the master cylinder is at fault.there were no repairs made.there is a nhtsa recall # 04v045000.the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.

Continued problem with pop/noise in front end of 04 avalanche while turning and turning while in reverse.chevrolet has issues several tsb's for this problem, but the problem persist. At the moment it has not cause any accidents but myself and other avalanche owner are fearful that it will develop into a safety concern if not permanently corrected.

Popping noise in the front end.it has been repaired 5 times by the dealer and the problem returns.it is do to go back this week to be repaired again.the dealer has replaced the steering shaft, lubed the front end, drilled and elongated the cross member's mounting holes, added washers, and combinations above.

4"takata recall" the contact owns a 2004 chevy avalanche with a set of capitol precision trac ll tires on it. While pulling off in the vehicle and driving around 35 mph you could feel the back end shaking and wobbling like the lug nuts were loose. The vehicle was pulled off the road to investigate the shaking issue where was found that the tires tread was separating making humps and waves in the tread. This happened on the highway at 92,207 miles on vehicle and 7, 319 miles on 265/70r17 capitol precision trac ll tires. The vehicle was parked for a few days until getting tires to replace the capitol tires but once the vehicle started moving to take it to the shop to replace the tires the front had started to shake just like the back at 92,221 miles on the vehicle but not as much. Walmart changed the tires and the technician reported the tires were really bad with tread separating from the tire and also that this brand tire were recalled. I have taken these tires back to tire pros where it was purchased and now is awaiting them to send these tires back to the tire company for an investigation of the tire. The recall # is 14t013-8570 if i'm not mistaken.

The front left wheel sounds like it is bouncing, rattling and loose.this has been diagnosed as an intermediate steering shaft needing to be repacked and the steering gear box needs to be replaced.this problem has existed since i purchased the vehicle.it has been repaired twice under warranty.now that the warranty has expired, gm refuses to pay for the repairs.gm claims this is not a safety issue.however, i am concerned that it will become one since this is a steering problem.it is clearly a design defect since many other avalanche owners have the same issues.

2004 chevrolet avalanche intermediate steering shaft is bad. Makes a knocking noise like it's loose.

There was a loose sounding noise in the steering column.upon my investigation i found out that many gm's are having the same problem.also because of the intermediate steering shaft being lose i could not tell that the right front wheel bearing was bad to the point the hub had to be replaced.this could have had catastrophic results (fatality).upon talking to various employees i was told that gm has had a design problem and that they now have changed to a different shaft.my vehicle was repaired and even the repair order states "replace upper int shaft with new style reroad test ok"i think in public safety that the ntsb should look into how many of these have had a problem (gm) and the average mileage of not only my model vehicle but all gm's that have this type of steering.it is a serious safety issue.

Dt: the contact owns a 2004 chevy avalanche.when turning steeringwheelhard in either direction . If the vehicle is in reverse one can still hear the knocking noise.the dealership has put something new in steering, but she was unsure of the part was, and two weeks later she is still had the problem. The dealership said that this was happening to a lot of these vehicles. The service department claimed that almost every six months the part would have to be changed. As of right now she was getting this fixed since vehicle was stillunder warranty.she could notaffordto pay for repairsafter her warranty was up.the contact began to have this problem three months afterpurchasing the vehicle. The part has been replaced once..

My 2004 model at 70 mph the front right wheel act like a basketball after hitting a hole, i cross the lane into the oncoming traffic, or the left lane on an interstate etc. There is no control until i slow down. The dealer ship here says they have never heard of it before. So i ask - what did they do to my 2000 model when it did the same thing 4 years ago ?

Dt: dents in the hood keep reappearing. This happened 4 times and dealership fixed vehicle3 times. These dentswere on the hood near the glass on driver's side over top of the hinge area. Consumer has been in contact with gm and his dealership. Consumerwassuing gm under the lemon law. The ohio state attorney generals office gave the consumer this phone number. The better business bureau has seen the video of the vehicle and has already been involved.consumer thoughtthat the metal that was made out of the hood had a flaw in it. Technicians felt that the weather may have been an issue. Consumerhad this vehicle looked at by numerous specialists. Consumer was leaving the hood as itwas until the lawsuit was settled.consumer stated that gm refused to fix the vehicle.

Dt:the contact statedvehicle would take very little fuel at a time and shut the pump off.the vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they replaced the fuel filter line.however, problem recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they replaced the fuel tank. Thevehicle would not take fuel at all , it leaked fuelon the ground.the vehicle is currently at the dealership again .when driving in excess of 55 mph the hood vibrated.the dealership has not been able to diagnose the problem.

On several occasions, my tailgate would slam open on the rear bumper after accelerating.because of the vehicle was still under manufacturer warranty, i brought it to the dealer to have it checked.without even looking at it, i was told that the tailgate must be slammed shut (hard) because of the weather stripping.i tried this for a couple of weeks but still no difference.i took it to another dealer and in a matter of minutes, they readjusted the latches and i haven't had that problem since.

At 500 miles, my new avalanche required the crossmember to be changed due to clunks in the column and floorboard during turns, at slow or fast speeds. Again at 9527 miles it required changing again for the same reasons. I had a 2002 avalanche that gm had to buy back from me due to the same problem but were unable to repair.

While turning the steering wheela clicking sound was heard. Vehicle was taken to the dealer seven times, and dealer was unable to fix the problem.8nm

Front end suspension has made popping and creaking noise since it was purchased.i have asked the dealer to fix the problem on several occasions.they have made a variety of excuses and attempted repairs but the problem is still re-occurring.

2004 chevrolet avalanche front hubs went out and had to replace both sides.

While driving or in park the tachometer sticks as does the speedometer.this has lasted from minutes to days.the vehicle appears to run properly, however, i am very leery of my safety and the safety of my children when they are in control of the vehicle.

My vehicle has a kelsey hayes abs module that has already failed twice. First at about 75.000 miles and now at 130.000 miles, always while driving. The module was recalled in 2002 and the manufacturer was given a chance to redesign it, but it is still a bad part. The blogs are full of owners constantly complaining about this.i had to take gm to the mat to replace the first one since the truck was manufactured after the first recall. This time around i didn't have the time or patience to do so an went ahead an replaced it out of my own pocket. Ia m also stuck with this part as it is not replaceable with any other brand. This is a dangerous glitch that needs to be addressed before someone gets badly hurt.in addition to this problem, the location of the unit (outside the vehicle and exposed to all sort of inclement environments) is ridiculous! no clever designer would have chosen this placement.

The contact ownsa 2004 chevrolet avalanche.the speedometer would register abnormal miles per hour.the failure and current mileage was 68,000. The dealer was aware that the problem existed.the vehicle has not be repaired.

Thank you

Speedometer malfunctioned.

I have a 2004 chevrolet avalanche 1500, the speedometer has quit working, and the tachometer works intermittently.periodically the speedometer will move, but not show an accurate speed.currently it is stuck at 0 mph.there are many complaints on the internet about this same issue.is anything being discussed with gm to rectify this situation, as their response so far is to tell consumersare on theirown with y thedealer.

Vehicle surges when going downhill at highway speed when using cruise control.took to dealer - response:this is a normal condition.never had this problem with another vehicle.

Received a notice that my vehicle possibly had a recalled sunroof manufactured by hollandia at webasto product north america, inc. Per the provided instructions, i was able to confirm that my car does have an aftermarket sunroof affected by the recall.since the vehicle has been taken oversees it would be impossible to send it to a service repair shop.please indicate what needs to be done in this case.

My heating and air conditioning system does not function correctly. It has a mind of its own. It adjusts itself from hot to cold, cold to hot. It adjusts itself from low to high, high to low. Occasionally when i shut of the truck and take the key out the heating/cooling system will remain on. I can't drive in cold weather particularly in the morning or when its raining afraid that my defroster/defogger wont work because of the problem.

Speedometer not working at all reads over 120 mph even when turned off.all windows get stuck when trying to close them.

Nuts retaining wiper arms to shaft loosened on both driver and passenger side causing wipers to not move. I tightened the nuts as a temporary fix and will replace with lock nuts.

1)windshield wipers will not turn off, and only work on 2 speeds. No variable.2) i am unable to use wipers. From reading i need to take out fuse, and 3) have the circuit board replaced. Seems to occur frequently enough to be posted on several forums.
