A guy ran through a stop sign which caused me to hit himnear the end of his vehicle.he was trying an xterra and i hit hm head on near the end of his vehicle however my airbags did not deploy.the entire front end of my truck is gone, radiator is exposed and hood pushed up to the windshield.

I have a chevrolet avalanche year 2002 keeps shutting down. I ran on highway 55 miles, then my car shut down....many cars behind almost hit. Very scary. Ialmost died! this problem shut down everyday after 10minutes run.but not only my. Most the car same year, same model got the same problem too. This is very dangerous and don't know why gm didn't recall this.please see all the post about this here: http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php/topic,4815.0.htmlhttp://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php/topic,47937.40.html.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet avalanche 2500.while driving 60 mph, the vehicle would intermittently fail without warning.after waiting for a short period of time, the vehicle would eventually restart.when the failure occurs, the battery drains shortly afterwards.he took the vehicle to the dealer on numerous occasions, but they could not find any error codes or duplicate the failure.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 89,000 and current mileage was 93,000.updated 02/10/09. *ljupdated 02/11/09.

Vehicle stalls at high rate of speed, highway driving, truck hesitates and jerks, and comes to the near point of stalling, and low speeds, vehicle does the same, hesitates, and jerks, stalls, all systems fail.starts back up upon shifting to neutral.mechanic says it is the crankshaft position sensor on the 8.1 l 8100 series motor, the same motor that is in the 2001 model silverado, sierra, and suburbans that is the subject of a recall. Location is in the back of the motor making it near impossible to change out without major engine repair work, removing intake manifold and other complex things, to repair an apparent $60 part.dangerous due to the fact that there is absolutely no indication that this is happening and happened on a vehicle that has been cared for completely.also, dangerous due to the size of the vehicle and the near impossible task of steering it to a safe place with no power brakes or steering, especially at highway speeds.mechanic says part it almost 100% plastic and can succumb to high and low variations in temperature and break down in composition.which, it has done in this truck, again without no warning, and no apparent cost effective repair.it would appear that the recall should be extended to the 2002 model year as well as the same 8.1 l motor was installed in the chevrolet avalanche 2500 truck (by the way, the vehicle was built in 2001), which, other that the different body style has the same chassis and motor as the suburban.very dangerous for a woman, who cannot or does not have the strength to steer a 7,000 pound truck that completely stalled at a high rate of speed.

Engine died while driving 60 mph on the interstate in snowy conditions on 2 lane portion in heavy traffic.by the time i coasted to a stop with no power steering or power brakes iwas on an overpass with nowhere to pull out of traffic, so ended up blocking one lane of traffic for about 2 minutes.obd ii code reader showed no code errors.replaced fuel filter.did not fix problem.after checking nhtsa site as well as others on the internet found it might be the ckp (crankshaft position sensor).took it to dealership where their diagnostic tool verified it was the ckp.quoted part and labor to be $300 - $500.saving up money for repair.

2002 chevy avalanche 2500 with 8.1 engine dies without warning at driving speed.the battery light comes on, after the vehicle shuts down, but no check engine light, no problems with alternator or battery charge.no sputtering or sluggishness, no warning whatsoever.the vehicle just shuts down.when this happens there is no power steering and no brakes for this 7k pound vehicle!sometimes, once pulled over and shutting everything off and trying to restart itwill restart immediately, sometimes it takes up to 10 minutes oftrying to crank it intermittently before it will restart.it has done this twice in the last three days and a dozen times at random intervals over the last several monthsi have read on the internet others from who have the same problem and most likely solution seems to be the crankshaft position sensor which some say has been recalled on the 2001 model engine for the silverados, but cannot find anything for the same 2002 engine.this is dangerous and frightening enough at "neighborhood" speeds, but considerably more so at interstate speeds as the vehicle loses all power when the engine shuts down, leaving the driver unable to steer, brake or immediately restart the vehicle leaving it stalled in the middle of the interstate!

2002 chevy avalanche 2500 with 8.1 engine dies without warning at driving speeds. The battery light comes on, after the vehicle shuts down, but no check engine light and no warning whatsoever. The vehicle just shuts down. When this happens there is no power steering and no brakes for this 7000 pound vehicle. Sometimes, once pulled over and shutting everything off and trying to restart it will restart, sometimes taking up to 10 minutes of trying to crank it intermittently before it will restart. It has done this, off and on, at random intervals over the years i have owned it. I have read on the internet others from who have the same problem and most likely solution seems to be the crankshaft position sensor which some say has been recalled on the 2001 model engine for the silverados, but cannot find anything for the same 2002 engine, which is the same engine. This is dangerous and frightening enough at "back road" speeds, but considerably more so at major highway speeds as the vehicle loses all power when the engine shuts down, leaving the driver unable to steer, brake or immediately restart the vehicle leaving it stalled in the middle of the interstate there is no code in the ecm so the dealers have not been able to diagnose it. Does someone have to die before something is done?

The first time this happened i was going home from work on the freeway.i was going 65 mph and my engine died i had no power steering and the brake pedal was very hard to push. I was able to put my truck in neutral and restart it.the second time the engine died i was sitting at a red light and it shut off.the third time it happened i was going home from work, just got off the freeway and stopped at the red light.when the light turned green i made a left and was going to the next light to make a right and the engine died.i tried to put the brakes on, but they were very tightand i had no power steering.i had to fight to turn the wheel and just made the turn without hitting the other traffic.

The engine shuts off while driving.the vehicle had been idling for several minutes and after pulling out across the highway the engine shut off. After trying for at least 10 minutes it restarted. Thought this was an isolated instance, but has now happened multiple times at various speeds and even when idling at a stop light.

Stalling out of engine at highway speed.researched problem and discovered thread on http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/ identifying recurring problem with 2002 chevy avalanche 2500 crank shaft position sensor.

Vehicle stalls out at any speed and will not restart for several minutes.it is random and does this intermittently and is gradually getting more frequent.based on our research, we understand that the nhtsa is/was aware of this problem.we will be having the crankshaft sensor replaced.this is a serious safety issue for the driver and for anyone traveling behind the vehicle when it loses power.

My 2002 chevrolet avalanche has stalled on me several times and on a number of occasions in heavy traffic. This is a serious safety concern that i need help with. The local chevrolet dealer says they are not aware of any problem that would cause this.

02 avalanche 2500, engine just stops running while driving. Speed doesn't make a difference. It just dies and i have no power brakes,no power steering. The has been getting worse and is very dangerous to myself and others in traffic around me. It may take up 5 minutes to restart now. 2 chevy dealers say they can't find any problem codes and i can't afford to pay for unneeded parts for trial and error repair. Please help get this problem dealt with. I know there are other owners of the same model, year of this vehicle have same problem. It has been know about for some time that the 2002 avalanche 2500 8.1 liter engine has this problem. It is also known that replacing the crankshaft position sensor will cure it. This should be a safety recall item by gm before someone gets killed in traffic!!!

This complaint involves the crankshaft position sensor failure on my 2002 chevrolet avalanche while on the highway. Cause was later diagnosed to be sensor by maita chevrolet in elk grove ca. I found out that it was a widespread issue on the chevyavalanchefanclub.com website.

Sometimes my 2002 chevy avalanche 8.1 will not start. I lock car again with remote fob, unlock and usually it starts. Sometimes it takes several attempts at locking, unlocking before it will start. Now vehicle stalls with no warning, no power brakes, steering etc. Does this at random speeds without notice or any apparent consistency. This has happened on the freeway at high speeds and is very dangerous. To restart i must try and get pulled over safely, lock and unlock truck with fob and hope it starts. Sometimes will do after once, sometimes after several attempts. Not really sure the fob resetting of security system is the difference or it just happens to start. When are they going to fix this potentially fatal problem???

(1) driving drove about 35 mph coming to a stop sign and i had been driving for about three miles. (2)the engine just shut down with no warning.) about 1 to 2 minutes later the truck started again after several attempts.the problemreoccurred about 3 times since.

Don't understand why 2002 trucks were not included in this recall, i had the same problem with crank sensor andengine stalling at highway speeds. I had the senor replaced 3 years ago.the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) is directing the recall of 11,974 2001-model-year heavy duty pickups built by general motors to fix faulty crankshaft position sensors, under nhtsa campaign id number 07v521000.

2002 chevrolet avalanche 2500.engine stalled while driving on the highway.no warning, nothing, engine just stopped.this has happened about 8 times since the first time, and i have finally found out that the problem is the crankshaft position sensor.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet avalanche 2500. While the contact was driving approximately 35 mph, the engine completely stalled without warning. The engine would not restart. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The contact experienced the identical failure as mentioned in the recall associated with the nhtsa campaign id number 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling); however, his model year and model was not included in the recall defect. The failure mileage was 85,000.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet avalanche 2500. The contactstated the vehicle would stall without warning. The vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vin was not available. The current and failure mileages were approximately 59,000.

8.1l 2002 chevrolet avalanche engine stalls at speeds of 1 to above 40mph and fails to restart immediately. This engine shut-off happens on a regular basis while operating the vehicle. This a very dangerous situation as you lose all power to steering and stopping the truck. You have to coast to a stop, adding to your chances for an accident. Local dealer can not find a problem, but looking at your website, a similar problem resulted in a recall for model years 2001. That campaign number was 07v521000. It seems very odd that local chevrolet dealers are unaware of the previous year recall or have an understanding of the potential problem. Only your website seems to know about this issue.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet avalanche 2500. The contact took the vehicle to a repair shop and the mechanic stated that the crankshaft position sensor failed.the crankshaft position sensor was replaced.the total cost for parts and labor was $1,035.the manufacturer will be notified.the failure mileage was 81,600 and current mileage is 83,600.updated 05/26/09 the consumer stated the engine stalled on 3 different occassions and he was unable to restart it.when the engine stalled, the power steering and hydro boost brkae system failed to operate. Updated 05/28/09.

On several occasions while driving at highway speeds (60-70) the engine has stalled and left me drifting with no power on the interstate.after drifting off the highway with no power assist steering or brakes to stop and letting it sit and turn the key off and put the vehicle transmission in "park" the engine will start back up in a few minutes. Sometimes however it may take several minutes for a restart to occur. I can not be certain, but i believe this to be temperature related. I took the vehicle to the local chevrolet dealer (sutliff chevrolet co.) and asked that the crankshaft position sensor be replaced. This request came as a result of much investigation and conversation with other owners of the same year, make and model with the same engine. The dealer said they would change the sensor but would not take responsibility if the sensor breaks upon removal. This they said would require many hors of labor to fix and they will not do that. I would have to assume the bill for repair in addition to the requested repair should this happen. I agreed to pay only for the requested repair and said that this indicates to me that there is a flaw in the part and that chevrolet or gm should assume any additional responsibility due to a manufacturing defect. They refused and told me there is no problem with the sensor because there is no dic indicating a problem. My research indicates otherwise and the only way i could think of to proof my suspicion was to have the sensor replaced. I will pay for the requested repair, but not for additional cost due to what i perceive to be a defect that is known to exist by gm. I now feel very unsafe driving the vehicle and fear not only for my safety but also for those around me should the sensor failure and subsequent stall situation occur.

Engine died at 55 mph, restarted right away, died out again in the middle of an intersection about three miles away. Nearly caused an accident. This time it took about 10 minutes before it would start. I found there is a recall on the 2001 avalanche, why not the 2002?

2002 chevy avalanche 2500- none problem with crank shaft sensor failing.my vehicle stalled in the middle of traffic. I was almost hit from behind. This has happened several times. Upon research i learned that this is a common problem with this vehicle and that chevy is aware but has done nothing. Someone is going to be killed or hurt if this is not communicated. It has been reported many times- see web site www.chevyavalanchfanclub.com/cafcna/index.php?topic if you just search chevy avalanche engine stalling you will find all of the posts. Many people start by changing their battery, replacing their fuel pump and filter, replacing the air filter but the problem persists. Please address before someone is killed. It is dangerous for a vehicle to stall like this.........

My 2002 chevy avalanche 2500 has the problem of the engine dying as i am driving down the road at freeway speeds and any other speed for that matter. When the problem occurs, i loose power steering and braking ability.

While driving down the road my 2002 chevy avalanche 2500 8.1l engine would shut off. This was happening 4 - 5 times on a daily basis depending on how far i had to drive. The last time this happened i was driving on the highway with my son in the truck and the engine shut down leaving me with limited ability to safely get into the break down lane. Thus is why i ended up getting stuck in the middle of the highway. I had it towed to a dealership whom later replaced my " crankshaft positioning sensor ". This incident occurred on june 13, 2009. I have spoken with several other owners of the same vehicle all of which have had the same issue. From what i understand there was a recall for the same problem ( nhtsa campaign id number:07v521000 ), with the same motor that was in the 2001 chevy trucks. What is being done about this issue involving the 2002 vehicles?

Truck stalls while driving this is happening more and more.

Early 2002 avalanche 2500 with 8.1 liter engine 62k miles.noticed very intermittent missing at highway speeds occasionally.engine died on freeway and immediately restarted . 2nd time engine died and wouldn't restart for a couple of minutes. Very dangerous trying to coast across traffic to a shoulder with no steering or brakes assist.investigated similar problem on internet and fix for others was crankshaft position sensor.

Driving 2002 chevy avalanche 2500 8.1 l at various times and speeds and engine cuts out.no power steering or brakes.pulled over and after a minute the engine will restart.researched online and found that the problem with many other like vehicles have same problem (crankshaft position sensor).reported previous year same engine had recall for crankshaft position sensor.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet avalanche 2500.on 20 occurrences when the contact started the vehicle, it immediately shut off.the vehicle restarted, but then shut off again while driving 50 mph.the fuel pump relay was replaced, yet the failure still exists.odi number pe06016 was issued.the current mileage is 41,000 and failure mileage was 40,600. Updated 02-01-08

Intermittent sudden stall. At speed and/or when idling.causes of breaking and steering. Causes breakdown in traffic lanes of freeway.

4 times now my vehicle has stalled with no warning or any indication of anything wrong with the vehicle i.e. Warning codes, lights, or symbols. There has always been plenty of fuel in the tank. It happened to me this morning on the way to work traveling at about 65 mph after finishing a curve in the road. The engine died for about 2-3 seconds and then it restarted by itself.the other day my daughter and i were coming back from the dr. And i had just made a left hand turn from one busy road to another and it completely stalled on me. I had to stop in afternoon traffic and after about a minute and completely turning the key off and putting it into park it finally started. I talked to the service writer at quality chevy and he told me that many of the same trucks have been coming in and having the crank position sensor replaced. I did some research and found that the 2001 silverado's with the 8.1l engine, same as mine, had a recall for them. On the avalanche fan club web sight, i found a lot of people on there with the same problem as mine and having the crank position sensor replaced. They all had the same deal, vehicle stalls with no codes. Thanks for your help!

2002 chevy avalanche 2500.engine cut out at 75 mph! has happened more than once! i lost my brakes due to no power assist and almost had to drive off the road...which would've been a real bad seen. Supposedly this is a well known problem with a fault crank position sensor.

Day time running lamps keep failing. Every time i replace the burned out bulb soon the other bulbs burn out. The issue is apparent on many full size gm trucks.

The avalanche is our tow vehicle (only) which is why it has so few miles for a 2002 model year vehicle.normally it is towing a 9000 pound 28 foot toy hauler, but just by pure luck it was towing a single axle flat bed trailer with the cab for a 1935 chevrolet pickup on it back from the body shop.i pulled into the driveway and tried to stop and there were no brakes.tried to apply the parking brakes and the cable snapped.stopped by driving up a hill into the grass.took the avalanche to the dealer where they told me the brake lines all had to be replaced and they were no longer available from the manufacturer.in the course of getting the brake lines out they found that the fuel lines were also leaking and had to be replaced.the total bill for repair was $2900.00, plus the vehicle was out of service for 6 weeks. Granted the vehicle is 12 years old, but i have a 1963 studebaker that still has solid brake and fuel lines.it is only by the grace of god that the avalanche wasn't towing a 9000 pound 28 foot long trailer at 70 mph when the brakes failed.there was no warning light, no indication at all that there was a pending problem.someone could have been killed.these vehicles need to be recalled, and i need to be reimbursed for the repairs.

2002 chevrolet avalanche with engine failure. Consumer states that the engine light on the dashboard would illuminate and then the vehicle would lose power steering and brakes. He also stated shortly after, the engine would revive itself.the consumer was told the 2 fuel pumps on the vehicle were disintegrating and needed to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet avalanche 2500.the contact attempted to start the vehicle, but the engine would not turn over.he noticed underneath the hood that both the wire and harness were burned.the failure was related to the fuel pump.there were no warning indicators prior to the failure.the vehicle was not taken to a mechanic.the contact repaired the vehicle and stated that the failure was related to the wiring harness.the current and failure mileages were 150,000.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet avalanche 2500. The contact stated that the vehicle was equipped with dual fuel tanks and the contact noticed that the rear fuel pump wires and port were melted.the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who informed the contact that fuel pump and related components would need to be replaced. The contact was advised that the parts needed to complete the repair were no longer being produced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.

I put the truck in park and was unable to put it back into gear.

With my avalanche, i was towing a trailer with a car loaded and traveling at less than 10 mph, i applied the brakes to slow for a turn and lost nearly all the braking power.i pulled to the shoulder and noticed that one of the brake lines forward of the abs module located inside the left frame rail directly beneath the drivers seat had ruptured due to corrosion. Further inspection showed all brake lines in that area were covered with corrosion. All brake line were replaced with new stainless steel lines after researching that this very common problem was not authorized for recall. Repair cost: $950.00. It would appear that brake problems of this frequency and magnitude should have been subject to recall as it is apparent that it is a design flaw and very dangerous.

Complete brake failure while towing a trailer, pedal right to the floor i'm lucky to be alive. No warning whatsoever brakes had been working fine before incident. Subsequent inspection revealed blown brake line below drivers door at frame rail and all lines look terrible. Online investigation shows this to be very common problem lets get this recall issued before anyone dies. The ability to stop is priority one there is nothing more important.

Driving on the highway at 50mph applied brakes to stop at traffic light and pedal went to the floor. I had no brakes, pulled over to the side of the road and after examination saw brake fluid under truck.

As i was about to park my avalanche in the street in front of my home i pressed the brake pedal to come to a stop and the brake pedal was firm and then became soft and depressed quickly quite farther than normal. The avalanche continued to roll and i had to pump the brakes to get it to come to a full stop. After getting out of the vehicle i inspected the underside of the vehicle and found a great deal of brake fluid on the under body and puddled on the ground. As i inspected the vehicle i found that the brake lines were heavily corroded and flaking off rusted material. The brake line failed because of weakened tubing caused by excessive corrosion. The brake light did not come on and there was no preliminary warning of brake failure. The failure of the brakes caused the vehicle to have an excessively longer distance to stop than normally would be acceptable. I frequently tow a 6,500 lb pull behind camper with my avalanche and if this brake failure had occurred during towing and in traffic during a stop it most likely could have caused an accident.

My son was driving my 2002 avalanche when the brake pedal went to the floor without any prior warning or dash lights. Although he did go through the intersection he was trying to stop for there was no traffic and no accident. The problem was a brake line failing.

Saturday january 23, 2016 during a snow storm my 2002 chevy avalanche 2500 vin# [xxx] lost all brake control due to failed and corroded brake line under driver side door at retainer clip on side of frame without any warning signs of soft pedal or intermittent braking. This is the second truck driven a 2004 1500 with the same failed line in same place on frame. Just before the brake line failed there was a small car in front of me with two small children in the back seat that turned right if they came to a full stop i would have not been able to negotiate around them that could have resulted in injury and or death of the other occupants in the car. I do think that this is a big safety concern for all not just drivers of the affected trucks but anyone or object in its path. I asking for gm to recall all affected vehicles for a repair and replacement of all brake lines at the cost of general motors with brake lines coated like the poly armor lines to aid in the resistance of corrosion. The current lines are only made of steel with no top coating and are routed in direct spray off of tires and road with no splash shield to protect line from spray or foreign objects from striking lines. Sincerely[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

When pulling into my driveway, the brakes pedal went all the way to the floor.i ran into my utility trailer, but no damage was caused. Avalanche is at the garage now,he informed me this is common with chevy trucks.all brake lines need to be replaced and it will cost between $1000 and $1200.

Brake pedal went to the floor, used emergency brake to stop. Found brake line under drivers door rustedthrough and gushing fluid.

Rusted brake lines burst causing brake failure.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet avalanche 2500.the contact took the vehicle to the repair shop for routine maintenance.the mechanic noticed that the rotors failed and a report was filed with the manufacturer.the manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to one of their dealers for a diagnosis and to consider if they would assist with the repair.the current and failure mileages were 33,000. Updated3/16/09 the front rotors needed to be turned and the rear pads needed to be replaced. Updated 03/19/09.

2002 avalanche 2500 4x4 brake lines are failing one at a time under the driver seat their is a bracket that seems to collect dirt, salt , ect. In my opinion there should be a recall. This should be stainless brake lines. I almost got killed went off road to get stopped, towed home the truck. Nowthe next problem is trying to find parts actual 1/4" i.d. With metric o.d. 10 mm .

Abs brake system malfunctioning --- when slowing down to stop, at about 5mph, brake pedal becomes soft and vehicle pulls to the right. Recall tsb#02-05-25-006b does not include this vehicle but this is the same problem. Local gm service dept refuses to repair this unsafe design defect.

I was driving down the interstate on my way to work, in my 2002 chevy avalanche, going 65 when everyone in front of me slammed on their brakes. I followed to slam on my brakes but when i pushed the pedal it went straight to the floor, so in order to not rear end anyone i pulled onto the shoulder flying past the cars in front of me with my brake pedal pushed as hard as i could, thankfully no one was hurt. I drove off the rode and got my truck to the nearest garage. When the garage owner looked at my brakes he said my rear brake lines rusted out and that the front were about to do the same. He also said the brake lines are shoved so far into the truck frame he would have to remove the body from the frame to fix it properly.

Coming up to stop sign on a downhill back road, i experienced partial brake failure followed quickly by complete brake failure as i tried to stop the vehicle. Fortunately, i was only doing 5mph or less at that point but i went thru the stop sign and had to make an abrupt turn to the right and onto a shoulder to avoid hitting a car coming from my left. Again, i was still heading downhill and picking up speed. I tried to use the emergency brake but it wasn't effective much so i pulled the tranny down into second and ultimately down to first to get the speed down. I was able to turn into a local cul-de-sac which at first goes down hill and then uphill. I was finally able to stop and from there i limped the 1/4 mile back to my house in first gear and park it. I called aaa for a tow truck and had it towed to my mechanic. He reported to me that the entire brake line system was badly corroded and asked me if i parked the vehicle a lot at the seashore. I told him "no"but i don't garage the vehicle either especially during the winter. He said that ha had never seen anything like it. He had to replace all of the brake lines, hoses, fittings and bleeder screws.it cost $1,246.12 and, yes, he showed me all of the lines and parts which he removed---i couldn't believe it. I considered filing this report at the time but #1: i'm a procrastinator and #2 i thought it was a fluke since again i don't garage my vehicle, i don't drive it that much ( 50k miles in approx. 9 yrs)and i get a lot of salt on the vehicle during the winter since i live on a hill. I'm now sorry for not reporting this sooner since i no longer have the old parts of my braking system available to me but i figured i better let you know just what happened in my case because i read a newspaper article on 04/05/10 that said you were looking at 110 complaints of brake failures in general motors suvs of all sorts.

Rusted brake line failure, drivers rear, passenger front, under radiatior.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet avalanche 2500. The contact was driving 45 mph when the brake pedal traveled to the floor surface when pressure was applied. The emergency brake was engaged to stop the vehicle. There was a massive leak of brake fluid. The contact continued to drive with extreme caution. The contact noticed excessive rust within the brake line several months before the failure. The manufacturer was notified and they were unable to provide assistance. The vehicle was neither diagnosed for the failure nor repaired. The failure mileage was 49,123.

Trailer hitch receiver seems to twist slightly when used.
