"service airbag" sensor light and "idiot" light cameon and won't go off.i have been on a few forums about this and there are lots of people with this same problem.many different ideas on what will fix the problem but gm should issue a recall and fix it for everyone.
Service air bag light on and message in the driver informationcenter.
Air bag light is on and it shows in the display when started to "service air bag". No previous accident or any indication as to the cause just was on one day when i started it.
Service air bag goes on and has been doing so ever since then. This happens when humidity is high or after a rain. It stays on until things dry out. However, when this is on the air bags are disabled.
Air bag warning light is on.
The service air bag light staying on in my 2005 chevy avalanche. It use to be intermittent whenever it was raining or wet outside but now it is on steady after a rainstorm on july 18/10. I have been doing some research online and found out that it is a very common problem with the chevy avalanche, gm as put out service bulletins about the wiring but they will not cover the repairs if your warranty is expired. I think this is a very important issue for the safety of all chevy avalanche + other model owners that should be taken care of by gm.the website that i found most of my information about this problem on is chevyavalanchefanclub.com if this vehicle is involved in an accident the air bag system is most likely to fail which most likely will cause excessive bodily damage or even death of the passengers and driver that could have been avoided if gm would own up to their responsibility and fix the problems.
2005 chevrolet avalanche.consumer writes in regards to airbag and traction control service lights came on also the four-wheel drive stability system was disabled.
Airbag service light came on and has stayed on.no accidents has occurred to warrant the light coming on.
I have had my sensor light and the warning light that says "service airbags" come on and it won't go off. I have been on a few auto forums about this and there are hundreds of people with the same problem. The dealers can't seem to figure out what it is and people are spending hundreds of dollars to get it fixed, but it doesn't.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 50 mph on wet roads, the vehicle collided with a roadside bank.both frontal air bags failed to deploy, and the safety belt failed to keep the contact secure in the seat, causing the contact to be thrown over the steering wheel and strike the windshield.the contact incurred internal abdominal injuries as well as head lacerations.there was a police report taken.the vehicle was towed back to the residence, and had not been seen by a dealer.
Speedometer acts erratically, will often stay at zero, sometimes will start at 30 and progress @ 30 mph above the right speed. After contacting dealership was told i would have to buy a new speedometer. This is a well documented problem and should be considered a recall.
2005 chevrolet avalanche has a wiring problem with the speedometer, temp gauge reading, and other console readings. Chevrolet has recalled 2003 & 2004 trucks for the same problem. They will not include 2005-2008 eventhough, they know the same problem exists. This is going to cost $350 or more to fix.
Speedometer stick, don't work and shows wrong speed at different times. Took to dealer says there was a problem in 2004 , but mine was not covered in 2005 after there breakpoint ?? still not fixed.
I am posting this to help others and get this information on the internet. I own a 2005 avalanche 1500 2/wd with 22000 miles. At about 19000 miles, while driving at night i heard a click the lights in the instrument panel went out. Dealer replaced the instrument panel, with in 3 days another click and the lights went out. Dealer replaced instrument panel andthe next time i drive at night "click" and the lights went out. Now my dealer has had my truck in his shop for 7 days and i don't know when i will get it back. Fora vehicle to blow 4 instrument panels, which cost $600.00 a piece plus installation, makes me wonder if this might be a common problem and a recall should made so gm would be responsible for repairs. I will also send this to the nhsta.
Speedometer not working properly.usually stuck anywhere from 65 - over 120 mph, whether parked or moving at a lower speed.the first time it happened it had reset itself and didn't happen again for a while.now constantly incorrect.also, some other lights are out on instrument panel and steering wheel.too expensive to fix.
2005 chevy avalanche 1500 z66 (5.3l flex fuel).sudden warning from info center on dash that stabilitrak had been disabled.traction control off and theft deterrent warning lights came on and stayed on until vehicle was stopped at a red light.truck was turned off and restarted after approx. 1 minute.all systems normal when restarted.problem was intermittent and when it returned later that same night, innova code reader was at the ready.p1626 code suggested loss of communication with modules among other issues.problem very similar to another complaint [10631837] in a 4-wheel drive avalanche--my truck has 2-wheel drive.would not have been so willing to file a complaint with nhtsa except for the fact that my 2007 avalanche ltz 4-wheel drive (5.3 flex fuel) also has experienced multiple loss of communication/voltage drop events among internal components with wacky events while either driving or while parked [to include but not limited to flickering headlights when applying the brakes, cruise control disengaging at speed either by itself or when lane change/turn signal activated, hvac head unit going off and resetting, nav/radio going off with a "pop", drivers door control panel flashing along with headlights as truck is parked @ nite, a drivers seat that moves all the way forward as the doors are unlocked with the remote (easy exit feature never used by me), reverse mirror tilt active (though never set to do so), only rear doors locking when remote pushed--2 front doors had to be manually locked, engine hours back to zero, etc].no immediate safety issues to date, but stabilitrak turning itself off while driving was not reassuring [and could pose a danger at highway speeds and/or hazardous driving conditions.]dealership has not been able to reproduce problem(s), but has suggested a known problem with the oem battery cables--mine tested ok per dealership.
Instrument panel problems. Gm extended the warranty on 2003-2004 trucks for instrument panel issues, i have a 2005 which has issues similar to the previous models. The speedo gets stuck and gives false speeds and the hour meter on the truck re-set it self to 0.
My 2005 chevy avalanche has short in the speedometer, rear right tail lights not working, speedometer not working, check engine light-tire pressure light, the transmission shifting light not working properly it jumps reverse when i shift into drive and instead i go forward i am going backward and now my transmission is broken. It only shift to 3rd gear and i don't have the money to repair it. I call chevrolet to repair these defective parts and equipments but they don't want to repair it. They said there is no recalls for my vehicle. And i almost hit somebody during stopping at the intersection. Because my car suddenly pulls on reverse. Can i ask the nhtsa please help me by demanding chevrolet to repair my vehicle please! i would very much appreciated, [xxx] or let me know what i should please?information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The speedometer and temperature gauge on my instrument panel are pinned at max and min readings, no longer working at all.nothing i'm aware of led to this happening.i plan on having the problem diagnosed and repaired shortly.i am aware that this year, make and model have had frequent problems of this sort, but am surprised my vehicle's vin is not included as part of a recent recall: http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/bluegorilla/2009-09-28_123058_cluster_policy.pdf.i would ask that the decision to exclude my vehicle from this recall be re-examined.
Speedometer is stuck on 120 constantly.
2005 chevrolet avalanche 1500. Consumer states vehicle loss due to electrical instrument panel wire harness fire in fuse box *tgwthe consumer stated he received a recall letter in september 2011 regarding the blower motor resistor which could potentially catch fire.
Owner was driving, attempted to turn up hvac fan to higher speed but noticed that fan would not increase speed and stayed on the low speed. Then started to smell smoke. Pulled over, shut truck off but noticed hvac blower fan was still running on low speed. Saw fire inside right side of dash. Fire originated inside right side of dash at location of blower motor and resistor components.
Drivers side a/c unit blows very hot air even with a/c is programmed to lowest setting.this is a common issue once researching on the internet.
Fuel pump failed
After starting the truck and turning on the ac the driver side was pushing hot air while the passenger side was cool. This problem has occurred several times over the past few months the only way to clear the error was to restart the truck. I have not brought the issue to the dealer as it happens so in frequently.
The shift lever position indicator does not illuminate. The odometer does not show current speed ( miles per hour .)the abs sensor doesn't work.
The shift lever position indicator located in the instrument panel cluster does not illuminate therefore, i don't know what gear the vehicle is in.it seems like a safety issue to me. It occurs when i start the vehicle, am moving and when the headlights are on.
The fan motor control relay and connector short circuited and burned up. The location of this relay is behind and slightly below the glove box. General motors issued a service bulletin special coverage adjustment bulletin no 11046 for this problem, however it was only valid in canada, not the united states.
2005 chevy avalanche with 48,975 miles.at approx 47,000 tachometer stopped working.tonight while driving the speedometer suddenly went to 60-80 mph while i was only doing 40-45 mph.when i turned the ignition off the needle only dropped to the 30 mph level.while driving speedometer is sporadic as to speed but no completely inaccurate at any speed.
Speedometer reads 60 mph faster than actual speed.speedometer reads 60 mph at stop.repair shop states instrument cluster requires replacement. *ln
Speedometer has gone "wild".for example at 35 mph it will read anywhere from 60 to 140 mph and when engine is turned off may only drop to 30 mph.happening as a daily event for the past week on my 2005 avalanche which has 47000 miles on odometer.checking with dealer service manager tomorrow but understand from many other owners that gm coverage for this problem only covers the 2002 to 2004 model years even though my avalanche has the same cluster and step motor that controls the speedometer which i am finding is being reported by owners in large numbers as defective.gm needs to address this issue with their loyal chevrolet owners if they wish to maintain their return business.
My 2005 chevy avalanche 1500 speedometer is having problems. The gauge will readfaster then what i am drive. Then it will stick at over 60 mph, the arrow will point completely down. If i turn on and off engine the gauge will reset it self backwards 5 mph each time i do this. It will work for two days after that then the problem happen all over again!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2005 chevrolet avalanche at approx. 40,000 miles the speedometer has gone crazy never giving the correct speed. Several others with this problem and recall has been call for 2002 -2004 models that use the same cluster and step motor that controls the speedometer. Contacted the dealer to fix problem but they wanted 600+ to fix the problem.
My speedometer is stuck on 0.
While driving looked down at speedometer doing 150 mph when i stopped went to 60mph while setting still. Many friends having the same problem with these models of chevy avalanches. Called chevy they stated there was not a recall for this problem. Something wrong.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet avalanche 1500. The contact stated that the speedometer and tachometer failed; the components would not go back down to zero. She had not noticed any prior issues with those components. She had not taken the vehicle to the dealer or the manufacturer. The vehicle had not been repaired to-date. The current and failure mileages were 55,582.
My speedometer begin skipping on my 05 chevy avalanche when i was driving.it did this for about a week or so.then it started showing that i was doing 20-mph faster than i was actually going.when i would stop, it would still indicate i was going 20-40mpn.finally, on feb 4th, it got stuck at over 120 mph.so now i no longer have a working speedometer.
I own a 2005 chevy avalanche which i bought last june 2007 from a private party and i noticed that last septermber 2007 as i was driving on the street, i noticed that my speedometer was reading 110 and i was only going at 25mph. I wish to know what to do and i have not yet fixed my truck due to the fact that fixing my truck is over $1,000 dollars. Is there anyway i can fix my truck w/o paying anything?
Speedometer cluster broken on 2005 chevy avalanche. At 52,000 miles chevy has a known problem with faulty speedometers. Please see below website to get a feel of how many people are having the same problem ... Http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-tahoe/t2bgkbgi55eknu77c.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet avalanche 1500. The contact stated that the speedometer would intermittently become stuck on one speed and would also display the inaccurate speed traveled. The speedometer would indicate that the contact was driving 30 mph, become stuck and would then immediately increase to 60 mph regardless of the actual speed driven. The contact would have to shut off the engine and restart it in order for the speedometer to reset itself. The dealer stated that the instrument panel cluster gauge was failing and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 51,000 and the current mileage was 53,000.
Speedometer is failing to work correctly. Most of the time it is stuck at 120 mph. Or doesn't work at all.
I was driving down the road and realized that my odometer was not working properly.. It was registering that i was going 120 mph, in a 35, i knew that was wrong...all the other gauges are working well.i now recorded 120 mph or sometimes it will record between 75 and 90.i haven't corrected it.. I'm waiting for gmc do something. Or until the inspection sticker expires
Chevy avalanche - first speedometer stopped working as well as rpm gauge.next gas & oil gauge stopped working as well.now it's hit or miss when they will work again.very dangerous.dealership not cooperative to fix.recall needed!!
At about 65k miles, speedometer stopped registering accurately. Now about 75k on the vehicle if odometer accurate. When stopped speedometer reads anywhere from 60 to 100mph and when driving reads anywhere from 90 to off the scale (6 o'clock position on the speedometer where no speed is listed). In short, wildly inaccurate. Researched the problem and it appears chevy is replacing the instrument cluster for this problem on up to 2004 vehicles but not 2005 although it appears the problem is rampant among avalanche owners. Request nhtsa implement a recall on this widespread problem.
2005 chevy avalanche speedometer malfunction.while driving 30 mph the speedometer raced to 120 mph and is now stuck.i am unable to verify my speed while driving.odometer reads 62k miles.
Speedometer does not operate properly.
Speedometer continually goes haywire; it appears you are driving 50+ mph when you are in park; when you actually do start moving you have no idea how fast you are going; max out at 120 mph when you are flowing with traffic in a 70 mph zone. Occurs intermittently with increasing frequency; i have not had an assessment of the cost associated with this repair done yet.
My 2005 avalanche 1500 speedometer is not working it fails to record the correct speed it stay on 0 most of the time. Think gm should have recall this problemtoo many 05 chevy avalancheowners are having this trouble.
While traveling at approximately 45 mph the speedometer showed 72 mph. I see a recall for 2005 avalanche but my vin number does not qualify.
I own a 2005 chevy avalanche. At about 125k miles on the odometer i noticed that my speedometer would start to gradually lose track of the speed after driving for approximately 40 - 60 miles. So, when traveling at a consistent rate of speed of, say, 60 mph the speedometer would slow down gradually to zero over the course of 5 - 10 miles. When the vehicle was turned off for a period of time the speedometer would reset itself. Once reset it may start having the same problem immediately or it might be another week or two before this problem presented itself again. I took the vehicle and was told that the "cluster" would need to be replaced for approx. $600. Judging from the other complaints registered here, i believe this should be fixed by the manufacturer at no charge to the owner regardless of the mileage.
Speedometer on my 2005 chevy avalanche is stuck on 100 plus miles per hour.
Speedometer needle was tacky last week while driving in town around 45-50 mph.i watched the gauge and the problem seemed to have corrected itself.yesterday, the speedometer completely went crazy while i was driving, quit working at 25 mph, and when i slowed down, the needle went below the mph gauge line and is now pointing straight down, blocking my view of the gear shift panel on the instrument cluster. I have 44,000 miles or so on this vehicle and just bought it used two weeks ago.
I own a 2005 chevrolet avalanche and the speedometer stopped working.the truck has 51k miles and not been modified. This is a danger to my family and the cost of repair is expensive.this is a know issue and should be a recall.
Speedometer will read erratically at times.while at a stop light, speedometer dial will read a value other than zero mph (60mph for example).then eventually the dial will return to zero.then it will repeat the above again...
I was driving to work 12/17/16, 5:40am. I was traveling to work and i lost all pressure in my pedal. Which led me to nearly hit a telephone pole. The master cylinder and a flex brake line going from the master cylinder to the brake booster(module) were replaced. But this did not fix the problem. I have bench bled the master cylinder, and all brake lines around the truck. I still have no brakes unless you push them to the floor. I have done some research, and found were other people with the same model and year truck have had the same problem. After reading all those blogs and post, i discovered that the model and year of avalanche that i have was recalled for the abs system for failure.
Traveling home from work on the interstate at regulated speed (65mph). As i started to accelerate to maintain speed gingo up a hill, the message "transmission hot" came on the in-dash display and engine began revving as if not in gear. I could not accelerate and had to turn on flashers and merge to safety lane on right. I continued to slow down until i could engage the transmission again at around 30 mph in 3rd gear. As soon as i started to accelerate past 35-40 mph, the transmission slipped again and would not engage any gear. This happened all the way home so what should have been a 20 minute drive turned into an hour. I couldn't get above 35-45 mph without this happening each time which made navigating the hills of northern va in the rain not very fun for me nor the hundreds of frustrated drivers behind and beside me. As i pulled into the driveway and parked, i could notice a 'burnt and sour" smell...most likely transmission fluid. I didn't see any leaks or drips but the engine was extremely hot as was transmission and transfer case. This has been happening off and on for a few months now but in very limited occasions and never for more than 10-20 seconds so i haven't contacted a service station but will definitely do so this weekend as i am unable to leave work during the week for this issue.
The body mounts have gone out twice on my avalance.
2005 avalanche speedometer failure. Speedometer will not return to zero and will not give correct vehicle speed. Found numerous customers with same failure. This is obviously a manufacturer defect. Not knowing vehicle speed is a safety hazard.
Dt: the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet avalanche 1500. The contact stated that the gm dealership has tried several times to repair the vibration andhumming noise coming from air conditioner. However, gm manufacturerwrote a letter to the dealership, telling them to stop all attempts to repair this vehicle until they come up with a solutionfor this type of problem. The contact has been having this problem for a couple of years. He stated that one could feel a humming noise in the steering wheel when driving.this occurred all the time when the air conditioner was turned on. If the air conditioner was off thenone wouldnot hear this noise.
The shift lever position is not illuminated.there is another recall for this same issue but the company will not do anything.i turn the vehicle on and cannot tell what gear i even am in,
I have a 2005 avalanche that i was driving to work and i started to smell gas in the cab of the truck. When i arrived at work a co worker came over and stated your truck is leaking fluid. I got out of the truck and it was leaking gas all over the ground. I had just filled up the tank and it was a little over 1/4 filled. Upon further inspection after the lines dried i noticed a hole in the fuel lines. It looked like it had rubbed together with another line and causing a hole.
I have 2005 chevrolet avalanche..i'd been smelling gas everyday i drove the truck for about a week. I left work and made it home one day and gas was leaking all over the drive way. I checked for recalls and there is a recall for the year, make and model, but the recall does not apply to my vin according to gm.i will need to have the truck towed for repairs because it is not safe to drive to a gm dealership.
Vehicle would not start unless the key was turned to accessory position for a few seconds. This allowed the fuel filter to pump fuel to the engine. I have read of another individual having the same problem through the internet. I am concerned of other people having the same problem and needing to spend the money to have it fixed or not fixing it. I have had the vehicle checked and the fuel pump was replaced. Fortunately this did not happen while driving, but it seems to be a factory defect that should not have happened. The chevrolet dealer kept the old part.
With no warning at all my fuel line began to leak profusely.no sensor warnings/lights at all.fuel line was leaking a tremendous amount of gas - leaking to the point i was afraid to leave it parked in my driveway near my house or even out on the street (in case someone walked by with a cigarette).i feel this was an extremely dangerous situation.to make matters worse, my truck has been in the shop for over a week and several chevy dealerships are unable to get the parts from the factory and in some instances are only being told they are "backordered" with no approximate date of availability.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet avalanche 1500. The contact stated while at a complete stop the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrumental panel. The contact then noticed there was a fuel odor coming from the driver's side door. An authorized dealer stated that the fuel lines were crossed above the catalytic converter causing the them to rub and fuel to leak from the fuel lines. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 132,000. Updated 05/31/12*lj
Driving home i started to smell gas in the cab of the truck. After the truck was parked i found gas on the ground under the engine. When i had a mechanic look at the problem he found that the factory installed fuel lines were touching and had rub a hole in the fuel lines and were leaking gas on the engine also the e85 sensor module was cracked and leaking gas. No fuel line parts were available for the repair. I was told not to use the truck as the leak could cause a fire. This to me is a big problem as their is no warning.
Filling up with gas on my 2005 chevy avalanche.while filling with gas, with the lock on the gas despener, and watching to make sure it stops, when the gas despenser stops, about 2-3 seconds later gas starts to spray and/or leak out of the gas tank. At first i thought it was just the gas station that i used, but it has occured at mutiple gas stations. I feel this is a major safety concern that should be looked into. The dealer has said that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, and nothing they can do.
Fuel lines - 2005 chevrolet avalanchewhile driving home from work 2/17/2011, i kept smelling gas.since it is a 45 minute drive, the smell did not disappear until i reached home and turned off my vehicle.my son took our jack out to see if we could locate the problem.he found the gas lines soaked with gas under the truck but at that point it was hard to tell if it was what we thought the problem might be; a hole in the gas lines.since the dealers were closed we took the vehicle to the garage first thing the following morning.the smell followed me the same as it did the night before.when the dealer pulled it in the shop, they confirmed our suspicion of what was going on.the original installed gas lines on my truck were crossed for what reason is unknown and they rubbed over time and rubbed a hole in themselves.they are a reinforced braided line.upon doing so, and while the vehicle was running, gas was spraying all over the underside of my truck.the catalytic converter was soaked.the dealer would not allow me to remove the vehicle from their shop under any condition because of the possibility of a fire.they also check all the resources used by any chevrolet dealership and there is not one recall out there for this problem.there are several reasons i am sending this information.one is that after researching on line about my problem i have found many complaints for vehicles of that time frame bursting into flames and gm warranting it off as a short under the dash.gm seems to be taking the vehicle fire issue of some of the complaints i read too slight.my truck could have burst into flames and caused my life and possibly others.even now that our son checked the problem, he was even at risk just trying to see what it was!the other issue is that we have to pay for a problem gm created in the design of the fuel lines.i have pictures we took that night you are welcome to have should this problem be escalated.
The defective fuel lines rubbed together and caused a leak. I paid a local dealership about $1100 dollars to replace the fuel lines as it was unsafe. My vehicle is not under a recall but in researching, it was discovered that others have a recall.i opened an incident with chevrolet as a defect but they were not able to assist as my truck is over 70k miles and pasted the warranty, the fuel lines are next to the catalytic converter and would have caused a fire.
There is a fuel smell that occurs when vehicle is running and immediately when ignition is turn to on position especially on the driver side of the vehicle.
While fueling there seems to be a backlash air bubble that occurs and it takes approximately 10 minutes to put $30 worth of fuel. While pumping the gas no matter how slow or fast as the safety is in place to stop the fuel from coming out of the fuel neck where it meets the fuel going in this is normal to kick off the fuel so spillage does not become a problem however when you stop fueling there is a burp back as in a air bubble that splashes outside the vehicle which could potentially splash in a face or on your skin and it also runs down the side of the body of the vehicle again that is when fueling has stopped it burps the fuel out of the vehicle. Obviously the vehicle is stationary while fueling. This occurs no matter what gas station is used old new it doesn't matter.
Vehicle running fine and no warning lights - noticed fuel smell in garage and took in for oil change and see what's up - found the entire top of the fuel tank was a puddle of fuel and was running down sides.had the tank dropped and found the top of the fuel pump was rotted away where the pressure and return lines exit pump and before they attach to the plastic fuel lines.only leaks when vehicle running so had no spots in garage but was leaking alot while driving - 25 mile drive to shop used 7 gallons of fuel.
Fuel pump failed
Driving home from work, i notice a raw gas smell. Pulled into my driveway, left the truck running and got out to see what was going on. Looked under the vehicle and saw gas pouring out. Stopped the engine and got under the truck for a closer look. Upon inspection, i noticed that the two plastic braid over rubber fuel lines were coiled over each other causing them to rub, wear away the plastic braid and rub the rubber hose to the point of creatinga hole. This is where the gas was spraying out from, right neat to the exhaust pipe! i immediately got out from under the truck for fear that it might ignite.looked on-line and saw multiple complaints exactly what i found on my inspection!
The shift lever position is not illuminated.there is another recall for this same issue but the company will not do anything.i turn the vehicle on and cannot tell what gear i even am in,
Tail gate does not stay latchedhas been repaired twice under warranty by howard pontiac364 west grand ave. Elmhurst il630 832 9500tail gate was seldom used for this to occur.the continued failure for the tail gate to stay latched has resulted in tail gate coming open while driving.at first it was seldom now the tail gate will not stay latchedthis problem could result in the loss of cargo load & the failure of the cable holding the tailgate on.this would result in the a road hazard.date used is last occurrence.
While cruising on rt 101 at 65 mph, vehicle automatically downshifted into second gear for no reason.in response, i was forced to decelerate to 35 mph.tried explicitly placing vehicle in third instead of "d" for drive, but, the drive train was unresponsive.shortly thereafter, a "hot transmission" message appeared on dash and i pulled over and checked fluids.fluids looked good.drove vehicle home in second gear without issue.upon investigation, i discovered that my avalanche was built with a widely recognized design flaw and undersized transmission.various sources suggested i file complaint this address:https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/vehiclecomplaint/index.xhtml.
While driving on a 1200 mile trip, the message "service 4wd" appeared and my 2wd yellow indicator light went out. I called onstar and they performed a system diag. Could not pull any codes, so they connected me with gm. The customer service person at gm told me to reset the warning light and if it came on again to take the vehicle to a chevy dealership. The next day the light came on again and i took it to a dealership. They wanted $990.00 to fix the problem. I did not have that kind of money while on my trip. They also would not verify if the vehicle was safe to take on a 1200 mile trip back home.today (3 days later, and after i drove another 1200 miles back home), the service 4wd light is back on and now a red light is showing in the neutral position of the transfer case. I looked in the owners manual how to get the truck out of the neutral position in the transfer case and performed these actions. Not sure what will happen tomorrow with the truck.in my opinion, this should have been an open recall as i have noticed many other avalanche owners with the same problem. My confidence is shaken now with my gm truck.
At 80k i put my truck in reverse and heard a clunk sound and immediately it wouldn't shift gears anymore. I went and had the transmission rebuilt which lasted roughly 10k more.now, the truck won't shift yet again and the filter was changed and the rear output seal. Currently, when i drive since its my only vehicle, one minute it will shift finebut after i turn the engine off and on again, it will not shift from firstand the again, check engine light is on!
Service 4wheel drive message appears. I have had this problem repaired numerous times. No codes are listed in the onboard computer. Technicians cannot identify the failing component. They replace parts until the message goes away. The vehicle shifts into 4 wheel drive without warning. This has happened to me numerous times. This happens during high humidity or rainy conditions. Numerous tsb have been issued. One common cause is wiring harness connector that is prone to fail due to moisture. Chevy has not issued a safety recall.
Driving down county rd stopped at stop sign. Started to take off it started slipping then quit pulling completly.puet it in all drives 1,2,3, & dnothing happened cut engine off put it in drive it started out like nothing happened for short distance then same thing again.
Went to pull out of a parking lot, gave it a little gas and nothing. Engine idled up but it would not move. Went down through the gears but still would not move. Had to put it in reverse and back into a parking space and called a tow truck. $2900 dollars later the transmission was replaced with genuine gm rebuilt transmission.
Clunk when going into drive, also shifts hard when driving down the road.
At highway speed, service 4 wd light came on, stated vehicle lost speed/power and the 4 wd selector shifted on its own into 4 wd hi.....very dangerous situation...to lose speed and power in highway traffic.
2005 chevy avalanche with less than 60k miles, has a transmission failure. No warnings of any type. Vehicle was maintained according to manufactures specifications (transmission fluid changed at 30k miles). Vehicle is in the shop currently being worked on. 2nd and 4th gear cause the vehicle to "come out of gear" causing a loss of power.
Car started jerking as if it was going to cut off then once i got on the highway it would not go over 50 miles per hour. Took car to the dealership, and later found out that transmission was gone.
I bought a 2005 chevy avalanche. 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, at 40,000 miles the transmission disintegrated. $3,000 out of pocket........ I expect a little more than 40,000 miles out of a $35,000 truck. Now i'm getting mail about a speedometer lawsuit, i've always been a chevy guy but if this is what i can expect from gm maybe its time for a change!
Normal driving.gm tsb 05-07-30-017b talks about an issue they have on several thousand 2004-2006 vehicles that can allow for transmission fluid contamination, leading to failure of the transmission.my experience is that under towing, the vehicle can create a dangerous condition if the transmission fails due to unforeseen circumstances.this also can lead to repair costs over several thousand dollars, that the manufacturer, or warranty companies, will not cover.general motors knows by the issuance of the technical service bulletin that this condition exists, yet refuses to educate the owners of affected vehicles, and refuses to correct the issue and damages it creates.i have found several other cases where this failure has occurred with no remedy from the manufacturer.
The service 4wd started appearing in the driver information display intermittently. Taking the vehicle in for service gave no relief. The vehicle started acting erratically, slipping in and out of gear intermittently. It wasn't safe to drive anymore, ie stranded at stop lights or after slowing for traffic it had no acceleration. It became clear at this point that the problem wasn't going to be able to be diagnosed at a repair facility, without replacing parts needlessly and then test driving the vehicle until it worked again . I started checking on line and found many of these vehicles exhibiting the same behavior and traced the problem to a defective encoder motor which fixed the problemi feel the way the vehicle acted with this problem is a very unsafe condition and should have a fail safe built into it to at least prevent complete loss of acceleration. At the very least owners should have been warned of this possible situation since there are technical service bulletins out on this condition.
I own a 2005 avalanche with 2000 miles on it. When turning sharply while in 4 wheel drive, going forward or in reverse, the truck bogs down and stops. There is nothing in the owners manual about this. This is a dangerous condition for someone who does not realize what will happen. If i were to make a u turn the vehicle will come to a stop if the wheels are turned two sharply. My dealer did not even know about this untill i brought it to his attention.the dealer went out on his lot and drove an avalanche in 4 wheel drive to determine if i was nuts or not. Well i am not nuts as thiers did exactly what i said. The dealer then contacted general motors and was told this condition is normal so the u joints and gear box will not be damaged.if they say it is normal to lock up why don't they put it the owners manual? someone is going to be seriously hurt over this condition and it will be more than u joints or gear box.
"service 4wd" started to be displayed erratically in the dic.4wd system started to function erratically4wd control switch witness lights light erratically or do not light at all.4wd low range engaged by itself unexpectedly while driving - this was a serious accident hazard, fortunately it occurred at low speed and at a place where the vehicle could be stopped safely.general motors has issued tsb 05-04-21-003c (april 15, 2008) for this condition however owners were not notified about it or the potential associated accident risk.research on the web at vehicle owner clubs shows this condition to be a very frequent problem for gm vehicles using the this type of 4 wheel drive.further research on the same sites suggests that the solution to the problem was a challenge to gm and it was a "hit-and-miss" approach with multiple trips to the dealer to get it resolved.this malfunction could because a serious accident if it happens at interstate speeds in heavy traffic or on a slippery steep mountain road ( just to give a few examples).
2005 chevrolet avalanche.consumer writes in regards to airbag and traction control service lights came on also the four-wheel drive stability system was disabled.
I was slowing down for a stop light. An animal ran in front of me. I stepped hard on the brakes. The brake pedal went to the floor. No prior problems. I had the truck towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic found the right front steel brake line ruptured.upon further testing, the left front steel brake line also ruptured.both lines were rusty.the lines did not appear to be coated.new brake lines from napa had a coating.when the front brakes failed to function, the rear brakes did very little to stop the vehicle. Inspection and replacement of brake lines is not a routine maintenance item.
The blower stopped working on my auto temp control and now won't shut off.
The braking system failed due to brake line corrosion.although the vehicle is 8 years old, it is very well maintained and only has 14973 original miles.all of the brake lines on the vehicle need to be replaced due to severe corrosion.gm refuses to acknowledge a design flaw and refuses to offer any assistance inreplacing the brake lines.
Brakes failed under hard stop (highway, in motion).intermediate steel brake line failed to rear brakes in a mode of rupture due to corrosion.abs light had been on with service brake message as well.all other steel lines were corroded and contacted gm.2 other silverado line vehicles owned also failed this year due to corrosion.gm response was that no recall existed.replaced all steel brake lines in vehicle with stainless aftermarket lines.after multiple contacts with gm customer service, i was told to save my receipts for repairs.this is an incorrect material specification, latent defect and gm needs to be held accountable.3 vehicles that i own with the same repair in 8 months.inexcusable!
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet avalanche 1500. While driving approximately 35 mph, a screeching noise emerged from the front driver's side of the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and shut off the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to wilson county motors chevrolet in lebanon, tennessee (615-257-0578) where it was diagnosed that the front driver's side wheel hub failed and needed replacement along with the rotors and brake pads. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 178,000.
Stepped on the brakes to stop for a stop sign at a major intersection and my brake pedal was good a first then completely sunk to the floor. The truck stopped in the middle of the intersection that was thankfullyvoid of traffic. My wife and i were a bit shook up. It could easily been worse. We carefully traveled to the nearest service station and were lucky to get flatbedded to a local chevrolet dealer. Memorial day 4pm in georgia, i did not have high hopes. The service people examined the truck and it was apparent that my truck had catastrophic failure of the brake lines. I thought it was a master cylinder due to the complete loss of fluid. While we waited for tow truck i purchased brake fluid and filled my completely empty reservoir, had my wife step on the brake as i watched the fluid just pour out from the front drivers side area near the frame.
So the hydraboost is failing and my truck is pouring an insane amount of power steering fluid from hydraboost system. When researching this problem for my year make and model the hydraboost recall pops up but when calling chevrolet they want to do nothing. When its apparent my truck is affected by trash parts. It only has 149000 miles on it and the hydraboost system is gone. I'm tired of adding 2 quarts of power steering fluid a week, and cant even drive my family around because i waiting on brakes to sporadically fail due to the system being compromised.
Metal brake line corroded through while driving causing almost total loss of brakes.
Front brake line rusted through spewing brake fluid.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet avalanche k1500.while driving approximately 50 mph, the contact stated that he noticed premature wearing of the brake pads and disc. He also stated that the spare tire was not accessible.the dealer was not contacted in regards to the failures.the vehicle was repaired by a personal mechanic.the contact did not inform the manufacturer of the failure. The failure mileage was 71,000 and the current mileage was approximately 95,000.
Dt*:the contact stated while traveling over a bump or while turning at various speeds there was a popping noise.the vehicle was taken to the dealership, where it was determined the bushings for the tie rod were not installed at the factory.the bushings were installed at the dealership, but the problem returned. The vehicle was taken to a different dealership that determined the bushings were installed incorrectly.they were installed a second time, and the problem has returned again.updated 11/30/2006 -
I am experiencing the issue noted in service bulletin #050235003.since my vehicle is over the 36,000 miles i now have to pay to repair.it is in the steering and i do not want to have a problem with the steering.
Rattle and bumping noise transmitted through the steering wheel while driving.
Rattling in steering column...have had greased 3 times and it stops for about 6 months.2 friends drive 3/4 ton chevrolet pickups and have the same problem.
Vehicle made knocking noise in the front drivers side.took it into the dealer for inspection and repair under warranty.was told by the service manager that there was a recall for this problem and that they had to grease the steering intermediate shaft.problem appeared to be gone, but re-appeared months later.have lived with this knocking noise now for (4) years.called dealer and asked if they could fix this problem again for me (vehicle now not under warranty).was told they never performed this repair for me on my vehicle, but if i wanted the intermediate shaft greased they would charge me $135.00 dollars.had entire front end of vehicle greased by local auto store with problem not being solved.noise is very disturbing and causes concern for future issues.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet avalanche 1500. The contact stated that the intermediate steering shaft has failed. The contact stated that whenever he was driving the steering wheel locked and made a clicking and grinding noise. There were no recalls or warranties for the vehicle or related to the failure. The vehicle was diagnosed twice by the dealer and was told that the failure continue to occur since no remedy was available. The first failure occurred on july 25, 2007 and the failure mileage was 39,574. The second failure occurred on july 7, 2009when the failure mileage was 86,494 and the dealer replaced the parts. The dealer has replaced the same parts every 2 years. The failure mileage was 39574 and the current mileage was 96,600.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet avalanche 1500.the contact stated that the steering chamber was malfunctioning.after taking the vehicle to the dealer eight times, the steering shaft was changed.the failure recurred and the contact stated that the steering chamber was shaking while driving 45 mph.he also experienced tire vibration with the front and rear tires, in addition to huge vibrations from the exhaust, which flow throughout the entire vehicle.the current mileage is 35,000 and failure mileage was 250.

Steering column replacement.vehicle only has 66,000 miles on it but i have to replace the steering column.
Clunking sound and clunking feel felt in steering wheel when turning it.it has happened on and off from truck new until recently when it is all the time at 58,000 miles.i went to dealership and they tested truck and new exactly what problem was.the service advisor told me that gm has known about a problem with the intermediate steering shaft since 2003 and has issued several fixes for it from greasing shaft, new types of grease, etc. And now has finally came up with a new type of shaft to replace the old one.problem is that my vehicle is now out of warranty and i have to pay for the new shaft.it is going to cost me about $300 to fix.since gm has known about this for so long, they should have issued a recall and fix it for free.some people may not have the money to fix it, so may just let it go, therefore leading to a major steering issue and an accident.gm should issue a recall immediatly and correct this manufacturing defect on vehicles it effects.
Gm has had an ongoing problem with intermediate steering shafts that loosen and rattle in their avalanche models.this may also apply to the 1500 series pickups as well but i'm not sure since i haven't kept in tune to those owners as i have avalanche owners.the dealer remedies the situation, based upon gm's service bulletins, by shooting the shaft full of grease to take out any play in the steering.however, this lasts anywhere from 5k - 15k miles.i have had two avalanche's and both have had the same problem.i also know numerous other avalanche owners who have the same issue.i don't know of any failures but i'm also not happy with gm's lack of a fix for this problem and i'm afraid an accident is more sooner to happen than a satisfactory fix from the manufacturer.

The lock on the tailgate became difficult to lock. Then, a week later while driving 35 mph down a city street, the tailgate dropped open.when i tried closing it, the left side would not latch.the tailgate handle was replaced a week later.this was the second time this part was replaced.this same thing happened in 2008 when it was still under warranty.
I was told by a gm dealer how my vehicle is rusted excessively with the undercarriage and the quarter sills that have a rust through hole about 3 inches. I've openeda case with gm and they stated its out of warranty.i don't knowhow gm gets away with this repair and toyota had to buyback vehicle or do frame replacements

When lowering the spare tire the cable assembly lowers to the ground but the metal sleeve that the cable runs through and also is suppose to drop as the cable is lowers gets stuck in the assembly and the end result is the tire is only partially lowered and is stuck with the cable on the ground. You can kick pull try and use the tire iron to try and pry it down but it does not go down. If the truck were up on the jack and flat tire removed it would be very easy for the truck to come off the jack because of the force needed to try and get the spare tire down. The problem is the tire wont come down. If a person were to get frustrated and try and drive on the flat and forget to raise the cable it could be possible for the spare tire to suddenly be jarred loose and suddenly be dragging behind the truck and who knows what might happen to a vehicle behind the truck as it drove down the road.

The passlock system that comes on the 2005 chevy avalanche can be bypassed by a pin hole in the drivers side key tumbler.shuts off the system and interior items are accessible to thieves. A alternative security system has to be added to be secure.chevy doesn't provide this.it has to be aftermarket.
The gear shift indicator does notlight up in the instrument pannel. Therefore you don't know vwhat gear you are in. I do understand there was a recall nhtsa campaign 05v055000 recall bagan on 02/14/2005

The speedometer in my '05 avalanche stays at zero while driving or reads anywhere form 20-40 mph slower than i am going. I was doing about 50 mph on the freeway passing everyone (according to my speedometer) and passing everyone in sight. It felt a little fast so i turned on my gps and realized i was going about 80 mph. This is a major problem and gm needs to recall the vehicle.
Speedometer on my 2005 avalanche started to act erratic while driving. It gives false speed indication for example driving on the freeway at 6-mph it will just drop to 30mph even though the vehicle speed has not changed. My concern is the creeping effect of the truck and still indicating a slower speed.

Drivers side a/c unit blows very hot air even with a/c is programmed to lowest setting.this is a common issue once researching on the internet.
Hvac failure routing hot air when a/c is on and vice versa, also routing to defroster and heater works erratically.
