On occasion the airbag warning light would come on, usually while driving.on subsequent starts, no light was displayed.eventually the light would stay on for several days.i assumed this was a manufacturer initiated alert to have the airbags checked after 100,000 miles.when i next brought my vehicle in for an oil change service, i asked the adviser to have the airbags checked because of the warning light.he told me that when the light was on the airbags were inoperative!i told him to get it corrected.after 90 minutes my car was returned with the notice that a preliminary check did not uncover the cause, and i would have to return the vehicle at another time and expect to incur several hours of trouble shooting to determine the cause.since my truck was out of warranty, i would be responsible to parts and labor.i cannot understand why an inoperative airbag system is not a safety recall issue.perhaps if government motors was privately held, the actual government would force the manufacturer to repair all such safety related issues.
I own a 2003 chevrolet avalanche, my speedometer is stuck at 50 mph, i cannot accurately gauge my speed, i also have a service air bag light that will not go off.these are some serious safety issues and arecall should be issued.
I have complained before, want to know why this has not been recalled. Light came on for no reason. Wasn't in any kind of an accident. It is defective and no one will help get it fixed. There already is tsb from 2006. We moved from pennsylvania to florida and after a couple of months it came on and stayed on.
"service airbag system" display on vehicle information readout first appeared around ten years ago.brought to dealer multiple times for diagnostics and repair (code b0026) but have not been able to correct this safety system defect.vehicle is way out of warranty and attempting to repair items that have not been able to be fixed under warranty does not seem financially sound.airbag warning light and "service airbag system" display have been constantly on since 2008.
Air bag light is on. While airbag light is on, airbags do not function. This is a known issue by chevrolet. Hundreds of people experience the same problem. Needs a recall. This is a safety issue and should not cost the consumer to repair.
Service air bag light stays on been this way for a couple of years chevrolet knows of the problem but will not do a recall.
Airbag service light.
Key ignition switch is loose and car will shut off while operating, key can be pulled out of ignition while running.if vehicle shuts off while operating then you loose control of brakes, steering, and electrical systems.gm is denying there is a problem.my vehicle is proof that the problem exists and the chevy avalanche 2003 has a problem.
My airbags deployed as i slid into a vehicle in front of me. I was in number to number traffic and i tried changing lanes. My front left bumper tapped his rear right bumper. The other vehicle was scratched.
"service abs light comes on intermittently...disabling air bags!
Frequently while in drive the service air bag comes on. When this light/indicator comes on this deactivates the entire air bag system which is a safety issue/defect. This needs to be a recall by gm/chevrolet to have this fixed immediately.
The dashboard has developed a crack in the plastic on the passenger side right near the airbag area.
The temperature is not functioning. The gauge did a 360 rotation and stuck in the final position.i have seen some web posting which say people have received a recall and my make/year are listed, but i do not see the recall listed on your site.is this a recall item?
Speedometer quit working.
In light of the recent information concerning gm's intentional withholding of problems with the ignition switch in certain gm vehicles, i feel compelled to share my story.i do see other complaints filed here concerning the same issue.in october 2003, i purchased a new 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500.the vehicle had 5,500 demo miles on the odometer.i drove many miles for work and for transporting hockey kids to practice, games, tournaments, etc.in december 2006 i already had 80,000+ miles on the vehicle and the speedometer, gas gauge (causing me to run out of gas in the middle of the night!), oil gauge, battery voltmeter, rpms, which are all components of an electrical cluster began failing.i contacted my gm dealer and was told that a 'silent recall' had been issued to dealers stating that if a vehicle with less than 3 years and under 70,000 miles was brought in, the dealer should fix the item as a warranty repair.since my vehicle was 2 mos over the 3 yr and over the 70,000 miles, i was denied a warranty repair and quoted $700.00 to fix the part.since that date, my son's chevrolet vehicle had the same problem!and, in 2009 a friend's brand new denali with less than 10,000 miles had the same problem.i have never fixed the problem due to cost and disagreement with gm.i wrote the corporate office and got nowhere.i don't see how a safety issue like this can be allowed to continue to happen nor how gm can know about the problem but not tell owners of the vehicle and/or future possible buyers of the vehicle.oh wait, yea gm doesn't say anything because consumers might take their business elsewhere!i simply wanted to gm to fix the problem, that was obviously known about, but rather, gm simply keeps putting the same bad component in future vehicles!!
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact noticed the entire instrument panel and gauges failed to operate. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated the instrument panel cluster would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000... Updated 08-07-12
During trip from nc->tx->fl->tx i was stopped for speeding (75 in 60 on i-10 in la) -- i do *not* knowingly speed.i began watching my speed to try to understand why this happened.the problem repeated several times on this trip, and i was able to record a number of photos of the precise problem.after driving for more than a couple of hours (probably why i never noticed this before), the speedometer will begin a very slow drift downward. Since i had been on 70mph roads for quite some time, i apparently adjusted my speed control up to maintain what i thought was 70.then, when i reached iberville parish in la, i noticed the speed limit was now 60; but when i looked down, the speedometer was close enough to 60 that i didn't realize anything was wrong until a trooper flagged me down.in no position to argue, i was puzzled -- until i reached tx when i noticed the speedometer dropping ever so slowly.i had no real idea of my speed, so i just stayed with traffic.a few days later, on the tx->fl leg, the problem resumed after a few hours.this time, i got the idea to start the gps on my blackberry phone.surprise!my real speed was definitely faster than indicated.so i began taking pictures of the speedometer and phone.i have a series of photos proving the failure. What is also interesting is that stopping and turning off the engine for a moment, the speedometer started working again for a while.###############over a year ago, i had a one-time issue with the speedometer.it indicated much faster than i was going -- maybe 50 while stopped.when restarting the engine, i noticed the needle "stepping" backwards for less than a second.out of curiosity, i stopped and started the engine about 8 times -- each time the needle stepped backwards a few mph, until it eventually fully retracted back to 0 and worked fine until this long trip.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The instrument panel gauges fluctuated independently and several warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle also stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle, but the failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the vehicle had electrical issues. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 230,000.
2003 avalanche speedometer fluctuates.
The speedometer on my 2003 avalanche sticks at random points and then indicates an incorrect speed which is very unsafe.for example it will stick at 45 mph and then increase from there as the vehicle sped is increased.or it may slip to some other indicated speed from one moment to the next.very unsafe.i checked the internet and this problem is being talked about by many, many consumers.i believe that you should issue a recall to require gm (chevrolet) to fix this problem.thank you.
Speedometer on 2003 chevrolet avalanche not working, stuck at 120mph. I consider this a safety issue.other cluster gauges -- tachometer and fuel gauge -- have also failed.complete cluster needs to be replaced.gm will not correct problem because it is out of warranty. There was a tsb issued by gm to repair the cluster.however, the tsb only requires gm to repair vehicles (at their expense) with less than 70k miles.my vehicle has over 110 miles.is this problem any less of a safety issue for me than it is for those with less than 70k miles?gm is charging $500 to repair the most important instrument in the car.speedometer failure is clearly a safety issue that should be corrected.the vehicle?s mileage should not be a determining factor as to whether gm or the owner have to pay for the repair.a speedometer should last for the expected life of the vehicle, not just 70k miles.
At approximately 91k miles the speedometer began to intermittently fail, then at approx. 96k miles, the tachometer began having the same issues.i've noticed on multiple bulletins where hundreds to thousands of people are having this same issue and we're all curious to know why gm has not been instructed to issue a recall.gm has stated (via customer service reps) that knowing your speed is not a safety concern.i pose the question then, why do we have speed limits?of course your speed is a very important safety concern or it wouldn't be regulated.they need to replace these defective products they've put on the road & reimburse those that have already paid to have the repairs completed.putting a mileage limit on this issue is absurd considering that most people experiencing this issue either got the letter from gm after the 70k mile mark or don't experience the defect until afterwards.since when does safety have a mileage limit?
Speedometer failed on my sons 2003 chevy avalanche. Read where this is a prevalent problem. Why in the world has this not been the subject of a recall. I am reporting this to congress.
2003 chevrolet avalanche, z71 package.the speedometer on the vehicle sporadically stops working or sticks on a particular speed.the dial is not accurate and i cannot tell how fast i am going.
I have a 2003 chevy avalanche the speedometer show when i am at a full stop it is going 30mph. I have no way of knowing how fast i am going. I only have 50,000 miles.
Instrument panel has stopped working. None of the gauges work. Start vehicle no gauges move. Drive and no gauges move, including speedometer
Since purchasing this truck on 02/01/2007, there have been multiple problems with the transmission, engine, and electrical system that have not gotten resolved, however they do seem to get worse. The worst of these problems has occurred while driving on the northeast extension of the pennsylvania turnpike. While attempting to pass another vehicle in the left lane the engine "shut off". I was doing approx. 60-65 mph when this occurred during the am rush hour. After losing engine power i somehow made it safely to the right hand shoulder and let the truck "coast" to a stop. The power steering was not working, nor were the power brakes. After finally stopping, the truck did restart and i slowly continued on my way to work. The truck was taken to a dealership, and for almost (2) weeks the truck sat there while they tried to figure this out. After getting the truck back, the same problem occurred, and it went back to the same dealership. Since then it has been ok, except i have lost dashboard lights, radio lights, and also the cruise control indicator light, they claim other problems, however these issues were never a problem before they worked on the truck. Now i have air-bag lights flash at me while driving, and the transmission is slipping, this was the first problem with the truck that i reported on 03/14/2007 to the dealership that i purchased this truck from. I have already paid over $1500.00 i repair costs, only to have them tell me it will cost approx. Another $800.00-$1000.00 to correct the air-bag, and transmission issues. These should be covered by my warranty, except the dealership insists i pay for the repairs. I have paid enough, and i am at my wit's end with this truck, and the dealership. I feel that i can no longer "safely" drive my family around in this truck, and i still have many years of payments left. ( i have never been late on a payment) please help me, i feel as though i have been sold a "money pit".
I am a new owner of a 2003 avalanche, i was satisfied with my purchase but my soonroof falls under the appropriate serial numbers (6,000,000-6,300,000) recall states that it may be covered by the company webasto hollandia. Vehicle is fine to drive places but sunroof must be fixed for coming winter. It worries me as there's a slight danger of it causing a road hazard if it were to fall out.
Rattle form the a/c belt tension-er when accelerating.have changed multiple new tension-ers and there is still the rattle from the belt tensioner.i have found a tsb on the a/c compressor that leads to the issue.
Www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov.
Service light dose not come on when my truck won't not started up until i got it towed
I believe the same problem with the gm key/ignition switch is more common then what is being reported.the avalanche 2003 has had the same loose ignition switch for years. Our key system has to be jiggled and forced to the start position 80 percent of the time.the ignition switch will also move the off position while the vehicle is moving and the key will fall out.
I was driving approximately 15 to 20 mph down a hill that was curvy and all of a sudden my truck completely shuts off as i was driving down the hill and almost went into a ditch because the truck just shut off while in drive and luckily i was quick enough to put it in neutral so i could steer it away from the ditch and i turned the ignition over and luckily it turned on while in neutral otherwise i would of crashed into the ditch.then it shut off again about 30 seconds after and luckily i was able to put it in neutral again so i could steer and coast down the hill because it wouldn't start up the second time when it all shut off.i was stranded at the bottom of the hill near a light so i tried to start it again and it would keep trying to turn over but wouldn't start again.i was stranded in the middle of the road and had to call aaa to tow my avalanche to my house.this could of killed me if i wasn't quick enough to figure out to put it in neutral to be able to steer.there should be a recall on whatever made this happen and i still don't know what is wrong with it because it happened late last night and i was looking for recalls and it doesn't show anything on this.
My speedometer and several gauges have been acting erratically for months, and now the speedometer battery gauge, and the oil pressure gauge have stopped working completely.in researching the problem, i have found out that there was a recall to fix this problem several years ago.i never received notice of this recall.i have lived in the same location since 2001, but have never been notified of the recall.if there was a recall affecting the instrument panel, i would have taken it in.why didn't chevrolet notify all owners?
Engine stalls shortly after starting. Unable to get any response after the initial stall (it would not crack). Battery cables must be disconnected from the battery and reconnected after two to three minutes in order to restart the vehicle. No engine trouble code displayed after the incident.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500. The contact stated that the speedometerfailed to provide accurate speed readings. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 108,965.
I bought this vehicle and the cluster is out i do not know what model this is other than a z66 so i cannot see on how to program my phone at to the onstar or any of that i don't know if i have satellite radio there is no auxiliary plug in heated seats it's only the back of the seat that works i'm not sure if that's all that is heated and it says that it's supposed to be come with a key fob i did not receive my car completely dies i have to turn it completely off turn the key around and started again the whole steering column looks like it has been replaced i did not receive the key fob i cannot lock the doors because the keys don't work in the door but they do an ignition sometimes i have to turn the key around sometimes even when i'm in the middle of driving i have to cut it completely off because it will stall out turn key around and it start it again. I have no idea what the real milage is. Jelp im a single and only in come parent to 3 bous and this momma needs help please
While driving my 2003 chevrolet avalanche z66 the speedometer stops & starts working. I feel this is of great concern for my safety as well as the others around me.i visited my local dealer only to find that will be covered under a recall as long as i have under 70,000 miles.i have exceeded the mileage and am expected to pay an estimated $1000.00 to repair the problem.this is a non-wear & tear item that should be covered by chevy despite mileage.
Just driving my truck to work and the speedometer just quit working now when driving you never know how fast you are going it might stop at 50mph and the next time you drive itwill start from there i have not yet had this serviced as i feel this is a major safety issue, and apparently it is a well known problem with chevy's but they will not stand behind it. I have even gotten a speeding ticket over this .
2003 chevy avalanche caught on fire from defective wires behind radio panel that shorted. Burned all the wiring and smoked the vehicle.
Speedometer malfunctions. Sticks at different speeds... +10 mph, +30 mph, +60 mph etc. Will reset itself after various amounts of times. Minutes to days later.
2003 chevy avalanche - 48k miles.while driving, the speedometer "ticks" somewhat like a watch and does not measure accurate speed.the speedometer will slowly reduce to zero, even though the vehicle is still moving.
2003 chevrolet avalanche; my speedometer suddenly quit working. The readings are crazy, showing that i am going over 100 mph when i am only going about 50 mph. At one stop sign, the speedometer insisted i was going 120 mph! this situation is dangerous.
I was driving my truck and the speedometer was reading 60 and when i look down again it was reading 120. I stop and started again then i realize that it was not reading now. My fuel, rpm, oil pressure gauges stop also. I had a mechanic look at it and they said it was the cluster. I research and i notice that all these vehicle is having the same problems. I think that chevy should be responsible for this defective item. I brought this truck new and i didn't think that i would be having any problems like this. I replaced the part but guess what, its doing the same thing after six months. Now the door chime will not stop when the door is close and while im driving so i don't drive it.
2003 chevy avalanche z66 speedometer failure, seems like a very common problem and should be addressed by the manufacturer with recall.
I own a 2003 chevrolet avalanche, my speedometer is stuck at 50 mph, i cannot accurately gauge my speed, i also have a service air bag light that will not go off.these are some serious safety issues and arecall should be issued.
Speedometer reads erratically. Yesterday "0" was 30 mph. Each time i start the vehicle "0" is something different.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)my 2003 chevy avalanche z-66 has just now developed speedometer problems and i am sorry it is a safety issue and concern but general motors has brushed it off as no case closed. My speedometer started acting weird,it only works for short distance driving then either shows last speed obtained or zero. My example for gm is this: no other gm vehicle i purchase ever had this problem and even though you may not think of it as a safety issue perhaps you might rethink this thought by getting into a vehicle where the speedometer sporadically works then stops working all together while you are driving. Perhaps gm can tell me how they would/could tell the speed they are going when this happens 0 readingso that i can tell the law enforcement personnel who pulled me over for speeding or driving under the limit that i tried to judge my speed but my gm speedometer stopped working and gm said it wasn't a safety issue. It's a defect and gm has a limit of 70,000-80,000 miles or 7 years which ever occurs first...this is a cop out. I even wrote and addressed an email to [xxx]to no avail. I would like to copy and paste my letter so that you will see that i am seeking a free repair/ replacement including free labor for a new ipc. It is a defect they admit and it is a safety issue and concern that affects many vehicles besides mine no matter how many miles the vehicle has on it. God..this is an american car company, have they not learned anything about loyalty?
I have 79,000 miles on my 03 avalanche and about a month ago the speedometer started failing at around 78,000 miles. Researched this problem online and found there was a fix for this defect up to 70,000 miles or 7 years. Was told i would have to pay for it myself! why!! this is a safety defect that shouldn't have a mileage or year stipulation on it!! if you read all the complaints, this happens over the 70,000 or 7 years stipulation with many other owners!!! i've owned many trucks and never had a speedo or cluster problem!! this should be recalled with no mileage or year restraints on it!! very dissatisfied customers out there about this!! this is a safety issue defect that the consumer shouldn't have to pay for!!
My 2003 chevy avalanche has a known defect with the instrument cluster.all gauges on the vehicle can stop functioning without notice.this results in the driver begin unable to see the vehicles speed or any other information about the vehicle including what gear the vehicle is in or even whether the vehicle is in "park".in my case the gauges failed during a snow storm in colorado, which made difficult driving conditions much more dangerous.this is a serious safety issue which could result in both injury and property damage.apart from the obvious issue of not seeing essential vehicle information, drivers could inadvertently put their vehicle in the wrong gear such as reverse rather than park.gm acknowledges that this is a know defect with these vehicles but refuses to correct it unless the vehicle has less than 70,000 miles.gm represents that your office concurs with their approach, which would be a surprise to me since this is not a wear part, is known defect with these vehicles, and presents s serious safety issue. Gm has certainly done a calculation is exclude as many vehicles as possible from their proposed "fix" and is appallingly unconcerned about the safety risks associated with this defect.
All the gauges on my tec are going crazy. You can not tell how fast you are going or how much gas you have left or if your oil is okay or if your radiator is hot or not. Gm sent a letter advising they had extended the warranty to 7 year or 70,000 miles, guess what my avalanche is 80,000 and they will not fix it.
The cluster which provides for the temperaturegauge and speedometer went out, and washingtonand oregon had recalls on this, but not california, and i would like to know why in those states and not california.
Speedometer failure on our 2003 chevrolet avalanche at 43,000 miles.speed does not register whatsoever or displays, for example, 20 mph when traveling in excess of 60 mph.it is a dangerous situation; a distraction and not knowing one's rate of travel.gm should address this problem.
The speedometer on my 2003 avalanche went bad. It would work for a while and then would fail to show the true speed, usually recording 10-20 mph when i was going 70.this was a daily occurrence.i finally had it replaced in feb, 2006.it started in december, 2005.
Speedometer stuck at 52 while stopped. Will not accurately measure rate of speed. Speedometer zero's at 52. Odometer appears to function correctly. No apparent cause other than defective equipment.car make: chevrolet year: 2003. Model: avalanche 1500 4 door. Mileage 102,000.
Speedometer and fuel gauges not functioning correctly.
Speedometer is very erratic. When i am at a dead stop the speedometer says70mph and it tops out at 120 mph when i am doing only 30 mph.
Speedometer displays erroneous speeds.most of the time less than what the vehicle is actually traveling which creates a public safety hazard.there is no indication to the driver of a problem.all other indications are normal. It was not until a gps with speed indicating capability was installed in the vehicle that the erroneous speedometer indication was known.further investigation reveals the speedometer operates correctly until the dash/instrument panel heats up.at this point the indicated speed can gradually vary, sometimes drastically from actual vehicle speed unknowing to the driver. After reviewing the nhtsa site, this does not appear to be an isolated incident and because of the public safety implication of a speeding vehicle, at the minimum i recommend a notice be sent to all current owners of this type of vehicle advising them this condition may be present or occur in the future.this vehicle is currently awaiting repair parts.
Instrument cluster went bad at about 50,000 miles speedometer gives false reading.
The speedometer will stop working after a short time of driving.the needle will either slowly fall to zero or not work all together.cruise control is not affected by this failure.chevy has issued a warranty extension, but it ends at 70k miles.my truck has 78k.i would like a recall to be issued after reading that many other owners of the same model truck are reporting the same problem.
Shortly after 75, 000 miles the speedometer in my 2003 chevrolet avalanche started to register incorrect readings.at a idle it would register that i was going 60 mph.at approximately 65 mph it would register that i was going 0 mph.there was no rhyme or reason.
2003 chevy avalanche where speedometer just quit and is now pegged at 120 mph when parked.this is a safety issue because really have no idea of what speed i am going.based on many other gm owners i know that have had this problem, gm needs to put a recall on the instrument cluster.two people i know have had it quoted as a $600 fix.this is insane.
The rpm gauge and speedometer is constantly malfunctioning on my 2003 avalanche. So that i don't know how many rpms i'm turning or how fast i'm going. We had the same problem at work with all of our 2003 and 2004 cheverolet pick-ups. They were all fixed by the cheverolet dealership where they were purchased because they were all purchased there, but since i am an individual i can't get any service!
Speedometer not indicating speed, will stay stuck on number and do not move even when vehicle its off.
Speedometer failure, it registers the wrong speed all the time.
All of a sudden i realize that my speedometer is not working and other gauges on my panel are not working correctly. I can not understand why there are only complaints and no defect investigations on this website. Since this is a safety issue i would have though there to be more of a concern. Thus we question why there are so many deaths on our highways. I also received a service issue from chevrolet but my avalanche is over the mileage specified. Like many of the other complaints i read. There is an obvious defect with the part so why is the no investigation? does someone have to die first?
Faulty speedometer and gas gauge.
Defect speedometer.the speedo records 100 mph at 20 mph.does not return to zero.
The instrument panel to include the speedometer, oil pressure, and battery gauge have stopped working on my 2003 chevrolet avalanche. Being unable to tell the speed of my vehicle is a safety issue that i have been unable to get gm to resolve. The vehicle has not been involved in any type of accident the speedometer just started going from 10 miles per hour to 100 miles per hour. I called gm service, went to the local dealership and called the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. I received no help even when i tried to explain that not being able to tell the speed of the vehicle was a problem.
The speedometer on my 2003 avalanche went out. It registers up to 120 mph sitting still. The tachometer recently went out, also. Very dangerous for my wife (who drives the vehicle) and my children. I have seen hundreds of similar complaints on the internet. Why is there no recall?
Problems with instrument cluster.speedometer stuck at 30.other problems have occurred with oil pressure reading incorrectly.today, the speedometer is stuck at 30 and it won't move.
When driving my chevrolet 2003 avalanche my speedometer would stick and eventually fall to zero. After further investigation i have found that a majority of this model from 2003 -2004 have this problem.
Speedometer stopped working.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500.the contact stated that the instrument panel cluster was defective.he received a letter from the chevrolet dealer that stated his vehicle had a defective component (the cluster), which could cause the meters to malfunction and display inaccurate readings.the contact stated that he would be driving 10 mph and the speedometer would display 100 mph.the oil meter within the cluster also malfunctioned.the dealer set a mileage stipulation and stated that the vehicle would not be replaced if the mileage was out of the warranty limit.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 111,833 and failure mileage was 92,152.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500.while driving approximately 30 mph, the speedometer displayed 100 mph.the contact stated that the speedometer decreased from 100 to approximately 5 to 10 mph.the failure has occurred several times since september of 2007.the vehicle has not been repaired.the current mileage was 50,000 and failure mileage was 48,000.
I purchased a used as-is 2003 chevy avalanche 1500 and i didn't notice until a couple of hours later that the speedometer wasn't working. I don't when it failed.
Speedometer showing 50 mph at a complete stop. Inaccurate speed indication. Vehicle has 54634 miles on it.
The speedometer does not work right. There was a recall on this from chevrolet, however, it was only for vehicles with less than 70000 miles. We had taken our vehicle in to get fixed and our warrant would not cover this. This is a safety issue. You do not know how fast you are going as the speedometer is over 120 miles.
I have a 2003 chevy avalanche. It has about 70,000 miles on it. Just last week the speedometer started going haywire. It will read anywhere from 20 to 60 mph when stopped. When driving it will read anywhere from 70 to 110 mph. It is constantly changing so there is no way of knowing how fast you are really going. It is very dangerous to drive if you do not know haw fast you are going. I looked all over the internet to see if it was something simple i could fix. There seems to be alot of people with the same problems not only with the avalanche but with gm models in general for the 2003-2006 years. If it is such a problem there should be a recall. I will be printing the complaint forums and taking it to the dealer to see what they will do.
Speedometer does not read zero while vehicle is stopped.it reads approximately 60 mph.
My speedometer isn't working properly. It gets stuck while i drive and i don't know the speed of my truck when i drive and i seen that this is a known issue to chevrolet.
My speedometer in my chevrolet avalanche has started to malfunction. It will often read 40 mph when at idle and during driving speeds on the freeway it extends much over 120 mph and will stick there as i decelerate. This has caused me to get multiple speeding tickets as i have no accurate reading of my speed. I called the local chevrolet dealership as well as gm direct and they stated that since it was not a defect that is related to "safety" issues that they have not recalled it and expect upwards of 400$ for a replacement gauge cluster. There are numerous other consumers throughout the internet who have reported identical problems with this same vehicle.
I have a 2003 chevrolet avalanche that i purchased new from the dealer.it has approximately 104,000 miles on it.the problem is that my speedometer is acting erratically.some times it will say i am doing 120 mph on the highway or city street and sometimes it will not move at all.when i turn off my vehicle, it is often stuck at some speed such as 65mph.i can hear a physical grinding noise in the speedometer itself.this does not seem to adversely affect the odometer.i cannot reliably tell what speed i'm going, and my vehicle will not pass the texas state inspection with this problem.i contacted the dealer, and was told by the service advisor that this was extremely common, but that there is no recall.they said it will cost over 500.00 to fix this problem.i researched it on the internet and found literally hundreds of cases of this exact same problem.i pointed this out, and the dealer said basically that chevrolet will not address this issue.
Speedometer failure on a 2003 chevy avalanche.the speedometer is pegged out at top speed at a constant.occasionally it will bounce around, but it is never accurate.
My 2003 chevy avalanche speedometerwith 49,000 miles has stopped working. It either sticks at 40mph or registers 0.
2003 chevy avalanche speedometer fails.fuel gauge fails.no way to know how fast you are going.don't know how much fuel is in vehicle.have to reset system numerous times throughout the year.dealer quoted $700.00 plus to fix.problem started soon after warranty expired.too many failure instances to recall accurately.
Speedometer started sticking, wouldn't reset to 0, shows between 40 - 80 mph when sitting still.
Speedometer on 2003 chevrolet avalanche not working, stuck at 120mph. Complete cluster needs to be replaced.i never received any recall notice after purchasing vehicle in 2003. Gm will not correct problem because it is out of warranty.
I have a 03 chevy avalanche and the speedo is not functioning properly. It does not register the right mph on the gauge, sometimes it registers at different speeds example is that when you are doing the speed limit it will register 120 mph and when you are stopped it says your are going 50 mph. This is a product defect and i think gm should recall this problem. The only thing that they have done is extend the warranty on this to 70,000 miles, so if you are over this mileage then you have to buy a new cluster for 300+ dollars. This is not right gm should stand good for their defect...they have recognized this problem by extending the warranty so they know this is a problem and should stand good for it.
My speedometer in my 2003 chevy avalanche is very erratic. It sticks, it says that i am going 40 to 50 mph higher than i am and sometimes it works just fine. I have read about over 400 other owners of gm trucks with the same problem.
Speedometer started jumping all over until it finally quit one week later.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500.while driving at any speed, the speedometer is slow to react to the change in speed.it would also remain at a speed and then jump to another or display a lower speed with the cruise control activated.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not serviced.the current mileage was 110,000 and failure mileage was 75,000.
Speedometer failure on 03 chevy avalanche.apparently there was a lawsuit against gm because they used inferior parts within the instrument cluster that are prone to fail.they have since settled the suit in late 2007 and agreed to fix all vehicles with less than 70k miles.however, what about the rest of us with more than 70k miles that are driving without a speedometer because gm is charging $500 to repair the most important instrument in the car, the one that should last the life of the vehicle according to the lawsuit......i've even gone so far as to try to find the parts for the speedometer, but they are not available.you have to purchase the entire instrument cluster as a unit.if that is not enough, i can purchase the cluster for $275 and install it myself, but the unit has to be programmed to the vehicle in order to work.this programming will cost $150.00 by the dealership.so basically, gm has everyone in my situation hostage for negligence on their part.it is only a matter of time before i get a speeding ticket or worse, hurt somebody in an auto accident because i am not aware of my speed of travel.
Speedometer reads incorrect or not at all.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the speedometer seemed to be defective. The speedometer failed periodically which caused the cruise control to fail. The vehicle had not been inspected but the dealer, when called, stated that the contact would be responsible for any repair expenses. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. The current mileage was approximately 155,000.
Engine light and reduce engine power and start loosing speed. After turned off for a few minutes work fine. This year in an hour ridehave to stop at least 20 times. Computer codes stated need to change throttle body. Last week i change it and again the same problem.
Rattle form the a/c belt tension-er when accelerating.have changed multiple new tension-ers and there is still the rattle from the belt tensioner.i have found a tsb on the a/c compressor that leads to the issue.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500. The contact stated that the low coolant level warning light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the cylinder heads were fractured and allowing coolant to inadvertently enter the engine. As a result, the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired at the owner's expense. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000 and the current mileage was 129,000. First of all my vehicle is a 2003 chevy. Avalanche, well maintained and only has 62,000 miles. To get started, i was driving down the street when i heard this banging noise, so i pulled into the nearest gmc dealership.they checked the engine out and found out there was absolutely no fluid going into the engine. We were told we needed a new engine soi authorized them to put a new one in.the service manager and a couple oftech'slooked at the engine and agreed it was a defect.i contacted gmc immediately because the dealership told me they have a goodwill policy and they felt they should pay something towards the engine. Customer service insisted that i put the engine put back in and have it owed to a chevy dealer.i asked them what the difference was between gmc and a chevy dealer and they could not respond to me.i did not have the vehicle removed because of the cost all i was asking was for them to have a rep. Go to the dealership and look at the engine but they said no.by this time i was very frustrated and angry.i called gmc executive office and spoke to another girl and she assured me she would help me.well low and behold she said "i didn't bring my vehicle to a chevy dealer therefore they will nothelp me out financially. .all i want is some financial help from gmc as $6,000.00 is alot of money and i am on afixed income, ss only. I had to pay the bill of $6,000 plus $125.00 for a rental on various charges because i didn't have the cash. It would be greatly appreciated if you could advise me on how to proceed.i sent a certified letter to the president of gmc and he won't even pick up the letter from the post office.i wrote a letter to the detroit press and have heard nothing also.the dealership that repaired my truck also covers the warranties and repairs chevorlet vehicle.so why should i have to tow my vehicle out of there?
2004 chevrolet avalanche broken manifold bolts on both sides of the 5.3 engine this is a safety and environmental issue gm should recall this issue instead of turning there back and sticking there loyal customers with the bill!
In the mornings i turn on the truck and it stalls, and the idle bounces up and down like it is going to turn off.
The engine light has come on for the second time saying that is a vacuum leak in the fuel cap i replace the cap
(2003 chevy avalanche 1500~ 67,000 miles)1.this was a spontaneous failure - that is to say, there was no event leading up to it.2.there is a spring-clip that retains the emergency brake shoe.this spring-clip (on the driver-side, rear wheel) came apart, allowing the e-brake shoe to come loose.this had 2 results:1) the e-brake shoe fell out of position, wedged itself somewhere inside of the drum, and then the brake-shoe & drum ground against each other until they were both extensively damaged and/or destroyed, 2) the entire emergency-brake system was rendered completely useless.3.the damage from the failure can be repaired by replacing the emergency brake shoe, brake rotor and spring-clip.(i will pro-actively replace the spring-clip on the passenger side which has not yet failed).the old parts are still available.i do not know if this spring-clip has been redesigned or not.
Transmission began making a low whirling noise and now slips and chugs. No towing or 4-wheeling beatings. I have taken very good care of this vehicle. I love my avalanche but now the rear wheel bearing are going as well!!!
This is the second transmission, the clip that holds the transmission line to the radiator breaks allowing the line to come off resulting in all transmission fluid being lost and resulting in destroying transmission

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph attempting to applied the brakes, the front drivers side brake line fractured. The contact repaired the brake line independently. However, the failure recurred on the rear drivers side brake line. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Driving home the brakes went to floor when stopping. Break fluid was everywhere. Front brake line broke. All brake lines extremely rusty and need replaced. Live in north carolina very little salt on roads.
Was driving home and brakes failed. Massive holes in the lines, pedal down to the floor no brake warning light until it was too late. Thank god my wife and kids were not with me this time. Lucky i'm alive. I was not on a main highway. So far the cost is up to $2000.00 to replace all the lines. Also now the master cylinder seems to be faulty. Another $400.00. I have read way tooo many complaints about gm brake lines rusting out way too soon many with low mileage. Something has to be done about this in the form of compensation. Lives could be lost and some probably have.
Brake lines are leaking so i took truck to the dealer and they advised me the lines were corroded and it would cost me $1200. To $1500. To fix and it was not safe to drive. Lucky i noticed the leaking before my brakes failed me. I don't know why this was not recalled and fixed at no cost by gm dealer. Please let me know gm's responsibility here.
Driving 50mph coming up to a red light with cross traffic attempted to stop and peddle went down to the floor.narrowly missed a possibly deadly accident.foundthat the front brake line had rusted through.very surprised since there is very little rust on the underside of this truck.it would have been nice to have known about this potential issue.
I was backing out of a parking space and as i went to stop the brake pedal went soft as soon as the brake pedal was depressed, going to the very nearly to the floor.(normally the pedal stays several inches further above the floor.)the service brakes light came on along with the truck's warning chimes. I got out of the truck and saw large amounts of brake fluid dripping off the undercarriage near the left side rear tire.about 1 to 1.5 hours earlier, when i was parking the truck, the brakes operated normally.a chevrolet dealer had to remove and replace that brake line.approximately 3 months prior to this incident the chevrolet dealer who normally services the truck alerted to me to extensive rusting of all of the truck's brake lines.they did not think there as immediate danger of a brake line failure, but strongly recommended that all brake lines be replaced prior to the oncoming winter where corrosion might become accelerated.
Towing a small landscape trailer, pushed brakes, pedal goes low. Got home, entire frame on drivers side soaked with brake fluid. Had my 2 girls in the car. Not happy. I have never had a car have the brake line rust out before.
I was coming down the hill and saw 2 vehiles stopped one was going to turn once traffic was clear. And i started slowing down almost to a stop on a hill and i got about 2 car lenghts away still stepping on my brakes and all the sudden my brake light came on. A warning came up and said service brake system when i slambed into the rear end of the car in front of me who intern hit the car infront of them. I had just replaced my breaks and roters 45 days before this. I blew the brakeline on the front. July 2012 i blew a brakeline. Noone was injured that time and also blew a brake line august 2013. So for the 3 time blowing a brakeline there is something wrong. I lived in the north carolina until moving to west virginia in 2012 and this has happen every year since i moved north.
I was driving down the road with my wife and granddaughterwhen all the brakes ,i mean all the brakes went, and a service brake lights came on at the same time.i managed to drift to a stop, otherwise we would have hurt someone or been killed. No warning. I had to pay 1900 for the repair which we cannot afford since i am on disability. It still scares us.
Loss of brakes occurred when applying brake peddle.inspection by local mechanic showed both front brake lines had rusted through.further mechanic inspection revealed that the remaining rear lines were also corroded to the point where failure was imminent.local chevrolet dealer service department indicated cost of repair would be thousands of dollars and that there were no oem pre-shaped lines produced by any manufacturer for such repairs.hence, this would require custom brake line bending and substantially increased repair costs. Second occurrence resulted in a complete lost of all braking ability.this vehicle is often used to haul horses with a horse trailer.we are extremely lucky we were not hauling horses at the time of the brake lines ruptured and failed.research on various chevy and avalanche internet sites / boards as of this date shows this has become an increasingly common problem for chevy trucks of this vintage.the true incidence of this problem is likely hidden by fact that people are forced to seek repair alternatives other than at chevy dealers as the dealer quoted repair costs are outrageous.it is incredible that with all the press about recent recalls on large numbers of chevy vehicles, and the government and taxpayer money that went into bailing out chevy, that something as serious as increasingly frequent chevy truck brake failures, which could put people's lives at risk, have been ignored.
While driving the vehicle there was complete loss of the braking system. There was no warning of this happening.when it happened the pedal went to the floor and there was no slowing of the vehicle.when it was towed to a repair shop i was told that a brake line rusted through and 8ft of brake line had to be replaced.fortunately the car was going slow due to traffic.had i been moving faster or on a highway this could have been very dangerous.consider the number of complaints about this issue on gm trucks i firmly believe that the manufacturer is responsible for replacing all the brake lines before people start dieing.i am aware of the nhtsa investigating this problem with number ea11001.this is why i made it a point to write.i am hoping that this problem gets resolved quickly.
Truck in reverse my foot on thebrake pedal, on a driveway with an incline , i was waiting to back out of the drive way onto the street when the brake pedal went to the floor , and the truck started to roll backwards into the street. With some luck , i remembered to apply the emergency brake and stop the truck. After being towed to a repair shopi was shown that the break lines were all rusted very bad , and that 1 of them had blown out with no warning and all fluid was lost. I felt lucky to be alive.my truck looks new from the out side and in , i keep it clean and have it inspected for the state of pa yearly. When i looked under the truck at the repair shop i was shocked that everything was covered in rust , it looked like a 50 year old truck. I owned a 1978 gm truck for 16 years - 250,000 miles and it was not rusted under the body like this.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500. While driving 25 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and noticed that there was no brake functionality. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to the nearest fuel station. The brake warning indicator illuminated when the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the front brake line failed due to corrosion and the rear brake line also experienced severe corrosion and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
Brakes went all the way to the floor and was getting no braking at all unless emergency brake was applied...luckily was at a stop in a parking lot when this happened and not trying to stop on at am intersection or on the highway...was able to limp home using emergency brake to stop...aren't these supposed to have a split system so you cannot lose all brakes at once...pads are not worn low...and fluid is spraying from brake line directly under drivers side door...
While driving my 2003 chevy avalanche to work during rush hour traffic, another driver hit their brakes abruptly in front of me. This happens often during rush hour traffic in the morning in columbus, oh. I hit my brakes and they went to the floor! after i pumped them a few quick time, i ran the truck off the road while looking for any additional safe exit strategies. I down shifted, and had a very small amount of brake approximately 1/2" of usable pedal just above the floor board. I have read about the brake line problems, and have been fixing things on the truck since i got it. My wife's toyota rav4 is 1 year newer (2004) and the underside of her car glistens compared to our chevy avalanche. The kicker: she drives her rav4 every weekday even during snowy weather, and i drive the avalanche only once a week! i own another vehicle (1997 buick) i usually drive. The under side of the avalanche is the epitome of rust - not just the brake lines but everywhere!when did brake lines become a wear part? i am pleading to your humane treatment of people over profit. This is exactly what this is; gm took extreme shortcuts, all parts under the truck are rusting badly more than any vehicle i have seen in my life. This isn't a northeast or snow belt problem, this is a gm problem. Will you please prevent this travesty from continuing before more people die unnecessarily?split braking systems were made a requirement, and gm is hiding behind that requirement. Was that the nhtsa intent to permit higher profits with the split braking systems? that is what gm is using it for and at the expense of peoples lives. Which is more important profit or lives? have a nice day!
Lost total braking at red light at busy intersection,45 mph with the grace of god avoided a broadside hit, just missed a child on a bike, this was caused by a rusted brake line. What happen to the safety back-up in this design ? this is wrong. In so many ways. In theusawe need to hold our safety to its highest. How many will die before this problem is resolved .
Brakes went out with no warning, two different times. On a highway stopping for a red light.
Shifted from park to drive. Brake went to the floor, and brake fluid gushed from brake line under driver's seat. Also leaked on driver's rear passenger side. Total loss of braking power.
I was driving northbound on old us 23 in brighton, mi and stepped on the brake.the pedal went all the way to the floor and barely got the truck stopped.one of the brake lines had ruptured.polarchios auto repair (brighton, mi) identified the problem as a ruptured brake line due to corrosion.i had never heard of brake lines corroding and while not happy about the approx. $350 repair did not think too much of the incident thinking this was not a common problem.polarchios told me this was not an isolated problem and had repaired several other trucks for this problem.i saw that this agency was investigating the problem and was encouraging gm to recall and repair these vehicles and wanted to provide my experience.i would think a recall is in order as i only had one line fail, there are 3 more......when will those fail?as serious as the gm ignition key issues are, i would think the ability to stop would be at least as important. Please call me at if you have any questions - thank you for the good work that you do!
While braking for a red stop light the truck was stopping normally and was almost stopped when the brake pedal went nearly to the floor and braking action was severely affected causing a much delayed completion to the stop. When the brake pedal collapsed a chime came on and a brake failure light appeared on the dash panel. Luckily i was able to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I was able to drive the car slowly out of traffic going very slow and using the emergency brake. Upon initial inspection, brake fluid was observed leaking from somewhere under the truck. The truck was towed to a service garage where the initial diagnosis was a rusted out brake line.
Brake line blew when brake pedal was pushed do to rust.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, he depressed the brakes and the brake pedal traveled to the floor board. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the brake lines were corroded and fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
I lost the complete hydraulic braking system due to a line(s) burst due to rust. Thankfully i was just coming out of a parking lot so i was not going fast. My foot immediately went to the floor, the warning sound and indicator came on, but i had absolutely no brakes other than the emergency brake, which i used to pull over. It goes to the shop on tuesday so i will know then the extent of the damage. Had i been going 30 or 40 and coming to a crowed intersection, someone surely would have been hurt, there would have been absolutely no way for me to stop in time. I had no pre-warning of an issue, no low fluid indications, no brake warning lights, just my foot going to the floor. Pretty scary.
While driving my truck in a curve i notice the vehicle was not responsive as i applied the brakes.the brake pedal went straight to the floor.i regained control of my vehicle i place the vehicle in the n drive attempting to let the vehicle coast to a stop.i did a maintenance check for low brake fluid, i found that the level was good.that's when i was informed that my brake line had broken. When the brake pedal was applied brake fluid was shooting out from the brake line.this was the third time that this has happen to me that my life and others has been endangered. The first incidence was a few years ago i went through a red light because i could not stop the vehicle, the second time was november 2013 and now this time.although i purchased the vehicle used in 2006 with only 47,000 miles on it for this to occur three times is to often. I now have 150000 miles on my vehicle and cannot afford a new car or new car payment.please look into to so that i and other lives will not be further endangered.recall and do something about these brake lines breaking so that we are safe.
I have read nhtsa # 05v37900 and see that addresses the brake problems with brake line that i am having problems where the brake goes to the floor with no warning that is the same as the 2002 that is included in your recall. It appears that the same brake lines were used on the 2003 model. So why was the 2003 model not included in the recall as losing the brakes not a safety hazard. I was driving down the road when the brakes went out and was lucky there was no other traffic in the area.
I wasapplying brakes and a front brake line blew out. The truck had a tough time stopping almost hitting another vehicle, i had it towed toa repair facility and they replaced the line $300. The repair facility stated to me that it was very common for chevy vehicle to have bad brake lines. To replace the rest of the lines it would cost me $ 900 to $1200. Chevy should of recalled these vehicles for bad brake lines.
Primary master cylinder brake line burst lost brakes.
While driving in normal traffic my son brake the vehicle and the peddle went to the floor. He pulled it home and into our driveway and brake fluid was leaking all over the drive. Turns out the right rear brake line burst.
2003 chevy avalanche had catastrophic brake failure while being driven.upon inspection found severely corroded brake lines driver side above chassis rail.
Brake line explosive failure before the firewall.95% loss of stopping power. Inspection of lines indicates corrosion. Also heavy corrosion on frame members noted. This vehicle has been in the chevy dealership several times for corrosion of the brake rotors.at 25000 mi. Replaced all rotors and pads with non chevy parts. No more rotor issues.now all brake lines changed due to corrosion and burst line has caused a master cylinder failure.there are serious safety issues here and it's time for nhtsa to step in.
Rotting brake lines in the vehicle listed above, noticed brake fluid leaking from lines.corrosion so bad requires all lines to be replaced.dealer also damaged brake controller during repair and charged me the replacement cost.
Rusted brake line to rear brakes failed. Reduced braking ability prevented vehicle from stopping allowing vehicle to pass into an intersection. All rusted brake lines rear and front had to be replaced. Old parts may still be available.
The vehicle was stopped at a 2-way stop. Upon turning right, my foot went from the brake to the gas pedal and got hooked on a piece of metal extending from the arm of the accelerator. This caused my foot to be trapped below the brake pedal but attached to the gas pedal. The vehicle spun back and forth while trying to get my foot off the accelerator.i hit a truck coming from the opposite direction from which i was turning pinning it to the guard rail. Although both trucks had stopped, the tires on my truck were still spinning because my foot was still hooked on the accelerator and wedge below the brake pedal. Only after i turned the key off could i put the truck in park.in order to get out of my truck i had to unlace my shoe and pull my foot out, then pry it off the side of the accelerator, leaving a hole in the side of my shoe.
Rear passenger-side brake line failed, above the rear axle on exit ramp of major highway. Completely corroded line requiring replacement. Electronic rust prevention system (sacrificial zinc at all 4 corners) installed by dealership when truck was purchased, yet all brake lines need replacement. Dealership (heinrich chevrolet of lockport, ny) quoted approximately $1000 just in labor to replace the brake lines. Needless to say, i'll replace them myself.
My 2003 avalanche has the same problem as stated in the recall for 2002 regarding the antilock coming on at low speeds when coming to a stop.gm refuses to include our vehicle for repair even though they stated that no change has been made to the antilock speed sensor and/or hub assembly from the 2002 to 2003. If we have the same product in our 2003 avalanche, then why does it not deserve to be included with recall and require gm to pay for repairs to correct the problem. Gm is ignoring the continued problem with later year vehicles and is not being responsible for it.avalanche owners need to get together to complain to force them to do something about it.
"service abs light comes on intermittently...disabling air bags!
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500. The contact was driving approximately 45 mph with the brakes depressed when the antilock brake system activated. The brakes became extremely spongy which made it difficult to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the brakes functioned normally. The failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was 51,000.
The metal brake lines on my 03 chevy avalanche 1500 z1 truck are catastrophically failing. There is no warning prior as there would be with other brake related problems. This failure leads to an inability to stop the vehicle, the result of which could be deadly. The degradation of the steel lines is so bad that replacement of all line are required.
Same problem as found in nhtsa id # 05v37900 in 2002 chevy avalanche is occurring in my 2003 chevy avalanche.the abs is activated when reaching a speed of 5 mph or less.this is causing my avalanche to not stop immediately at stop signs or red lights.my avalanche will travel approximately 2 to 3 feet closer to the car or intersection i am stopping at.if i roll through the stop sign or not go below 5 mph while turning, the abs do not come on.
The contact owns a 2003 chevy avalanche.while driving 40 mph or greater he would have to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard to stop, which increased the vehicle stopping distance.the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure.the contact also stated that there was a flapping noise coming from the windshield wiper.the dealer took the windshield wiper apart and glued around the sides, however the problem continued to occur.the current mileage was 29,500 and the failure mileage was 4,000.
Pulling out of parking lot and when merging into traffic i pressed on the brake pedal and it went completely to the floor without any braking action.the pedal came back up to normal position and i pressed it again harder the second time while simultaneously shifting into first gear.the pedal went to the floor again but locked up the wheels and the vehicle gradually came to a stop.
Service brake system light comes on in information center, brake and abs lights are on. The garage says the brake computer for the abs is not functions disabling the abs on the vehicle. The computer part for the vehicle is unavailable. The abs brake system remains disabled. It is a 2003 model year vehicle. Brake parts should be available for the abs system.

Weak brakes, long stopping distance, no wear on front pads, front pads stuck, taken to dealer 3 times and they say nothing is wrong, i believe i would not be able to stop in time under emergency conditions.the back brakes have been changed 3 times (wore to wear indicator) and the fronts pads and rotors look new (glazed over no friction)this has been ongoing since buying truck brand new in 2003.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500. The contact stated that when braking, the rear brake would seize and began to smoke. Thebrake pads were replced by a local mechanic and the brake booster and master cylinder was replaced three times. The repair did not correct the failure and the rear brake continued to seize and smoke. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufactured was contacted and advised that the vin was not included in any recalls.the failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 133,000.
Aproaching a stop sign behind another vehicale at about 50 mph when applying the brakes i felt a pop and the pedal went to the floor. The brakes had completely failed. Using the parkinng brake and down shifting brought the vehicle to a stop before i hit the vehicle in front. It is an autometic. At the end i had it in 1st gear and turned off the ignition for the stop. It is a 2003 avalanch vin# [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I changed the front brakes and was adjusting them when the rear brake line started gushing out brake fluid. Ihad it towed to a mechanic and explained what had happened and before i finished he said let me guess "you bled the front brakes and blew out the back line next to the gas tank be hind the rear driver side wheel." this exactly what happened he said alot of chevy trucks have the same problem. He is going tto change the rear line.he said where the line is mounted allows grit salt and things build up in this spotcausing the brake line to rust into. This could have gotten us killed had i needed to hit my brakes hard.

Abs pump motor will not shut off due to a failed electronic brake control module. Abs fuse must be removed to keep motor from burning up.abs system is disabled. I am trying to find an affordable way to repair the problem. New factory part is toexpensive.must use vehicle with faulty abs system until repaired.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet avalanche 1500.while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stopped without warning.approximately five minutes later, the contact was able to drive and heard a loud pop coming from the rear passenger side.he noticed the rear passenger side brake caliper hanging from the vehicle.the mechanic stated that the brake caliper bolts failed and made the repair.the failure mileage was 69,346 and current mileage was 69,350.

I have a 2003 chevy avalanche it has a clunking noise in the front . The dealer has replaced the intermediate steering shaft at approx. 25000 miles . Now at 56000 miles it is clunking again. The dealer says that chevy doesn't sell the part any more and that they only can get it under certain conditions and just making noise isn't one of them they also claim there is no danger but i can't believe if there is something loose in the steering that it won't be dangerous. When you can't even get it repaired. I've work as a mechanic for several years and did n.y.state inspections and had to fail cars with bad steering parts but maybe the safety of the public isn't important anymore just the profit of the companies . Thank you for your time.
Purchased a used 2003 chevy avalanche at a dealership in feb 2006 upon servicing the vehicle two months later was told that the car had extensive under carriage rust. This car originated in michigan but i am wondering if it was a katrina vehicle during auction? recently had problems with u-joints which had to be replaced. Gm mechanic says the rust is extensive and caused this problem it will need a lube kit to re-lube all the mechanics under the truck. None of this under carriage body rust was disclosed to us upon purchasing the vehicle in fact the dealer told us he only gets the best used vehicles. There is also a problem with the steering column which makes a clunking noise when turning the wheel - the mechanic at the gm dealership says this is a know problem.

I was driving west on peters rd in middlefield when i hit a patch of black ice putting the truck into a skid which put me in the ditch i hit a mailbox and a culvert (drain pipe) head on tearing up the whole front end of the avalanche it hit right on the sensors but the air bags never deployed.
2003 avalanche with z71 suspension option. After less than one year old vehicle started making severe clunking noise from driver's side front wheel when making a turn.taken to dealer under warranty.dealer replaced a part and stated that some clunking was "normal". Noise ceased after repair.clunking returned in about another year and is once again severe.sounds like the front wheel is going to fall off.concerned about the safety of vehicle.
I can hear a clunking or rattling noise in my steering wheel. I can also feel it in the steering wheel while driving.

The plastic cladding on my 2003 chevrolet avalanche turned from its original black to a chalky color with streaking.this was not covered under the warranty, according to the dealership.the truck was exposed to normal environmental conditions in alabama and tennessee.

I was driving west on peters rd in middlefield when i hit a patch of black ice putting the truck into a skid which put me in the ditch i hit a mailbox and a culvert (drain pipe) head on tearing up the whole front end of the avalanche it hit right on the sensors but the air bags never deployed.
Dashboard is cracked above the speedometer. I have 56000 miles on the vehicle. I owned a 2008 model and had same issue. I thought this was addressed and fixed on newer models. I'm told it'll cost me $1500 to fix. If they aren't going to make this good i'm switching over to toyotas. This vehicle was parked for days when i went to use it noticed the crack. Very dissappointed!

Dt*: the contact stated the outer hub bearing became defective causing the inner hub bearing to become defective.while driving, the abs light illuminated. Shortly after that something flew off the vehicle, and the tire and rim caught on fire.the dealer determine the cause of the fire was a defective hub bearing.
When you hit a bump the door locks unlock and lock abs lights come on says reduced power you maybe going 55 mph then when you hit the bump you loose power maybe be lucky to go 5 mph very very dangerous have spent a lot of money trying to figure out the problem should be a recall with all the complaints i have seen online about this problem i can't drive my truck afraid i will get killed
Dashboard above radio cracked regardless if excellent care if car and sun protection.under mirror back to air vents and spreading across other mid section. Out of warranty. Out of luck!not good since have had many other vehicles that didn't crack under same conditions.

Last year in my 2003 avalanche i was cruising on an interstate highway and i noticed my speedometer start to move backwards until it read about 25 mph, however, i wasn't slowing down. It was very concerning to me, so i first pulled over to look under the hood, but i found nothing. Currently the speedo does not operate at all, but i went through a few months where it would start to work partially after about an hour of driving.this is unacceptable that so many people are experiencing the exact same problem. Obviously this part was supplied by gm in large numbers of faulty parts, and regardless of mileage i believe i should be compensated to fix the speedo. I had no maintenance control over the life of the electronics, and it's not like if i had changed the oil more regularly i wouldn't have had this problem.chevy's are too good of trucks to have this kind of problem on so many of their trucks. I'm seriously considering moving back to a ford truck because i owned a '95 bronco that had 248k miles and never had an electronic problem.
I have a 2003 chevrolet avalanche that was purchased new in january 2003.it currently has 110,000 miles on it, but since about 40,000 miles the speedometer has been acting up.it is real jerky when moving and sticks on speeds.currently, it is parked and on 100.you never know when it will work correctly - sometimes it does.
Started to notice a twitch in the speedometer reading about a month ago. Progressively became worse to the point that it reads faster and faster and does not go back down to zero. Now it is presently stuck past 140 mph.
-the contact called regarding the2003 chevrolet avalanche.the contact stated that the speedometer was faulty.he was traveling at 70 mph and without accelerating the vehicle the speedometer went to 120 mph.the contact stated that when he turned the vehicle off the speedometer remained at 40 mph.the contacttookthe vehicle to a chevrolet dealer , and the vehicle was diagnosed as needing a new speedometer cluster. The failure mileage was 40000 and the current mileage was 45000.
I have been having erroneous speedometer problems with my vehicle for about 2 years now.the speedometer has a mind of its own.it will be working fine, and then go erroneous.it will get stuck at 60 mph or higher.sometimes it is even 120!this seems to occur more when it is raining.i have found that if i remove the negative terminal from the battery and reset the computer, it begins working again.i never know how fast i am going which can be very dangerous.

Engine light and reduce engine power and start loosing speed. After turned off for a few minutes work fine. This year in an hour ridehave to stop at least 20 times. Computer codes stated need to change throttle body. Last week i change it and again the same problem.
Instrument panel has stopped working. None of the gauges work. Start vehicle no gauges move. Drive and no gauges move, including speedometer
Heater blower not working on first 3 settings only works on high.
I have a 2003 chevy avalanche and the back window is crack when i talked to gm they said that it was out of warranty and would not do anything.

Windshield wipers will not turn off. I have had to remove the fuse to get them to stop. I am taking it to the dealership this coming week. This has been an on-going condition. It works and then it doesn't. This last time was different since it would not shut off at all.
