Consumer was traveling about 35mph on a side street and another vehicle veered into him by crossing over into the meridian strip. Upon impact, neither airbag deployed, andmore than one person was injured.

Air bags did not deploy in a nearly head-on crash at an estimated speed of 60 mph.relative speed may have been less, because vehicle which this van hit was sliding backwards in the same direction of travel as the van.however, closing speed had to be significant to cause it to be damaged beyond repair within its $13,000 value.vehicle was a total loss.we have owned this vehicle since new, no modifications have been made to it, and it had never been in an accident before this.digital photos of damaged vehicle are available if desired.

Airbags failed to deploy in an approx. 50 mph head-on crash.

Vehicle bought at the end of 2000, used. Every summer since i have had to have wiring replaced in the engine, front door locks stopped working after 5 months, front brakes have been replaced three times, i have had to have it towed 6 times do to the wiring and i have had to replace the alternator and battery due to all of the electrical and alternator problems. I also had to replace the starter. Hydraulics on rear door also broken. Display lights come on and off when they want to and i have continually replaced fuses. I thought at first that these were just flukes, but they are continually getting worse. I did talk to the previous owners son about six months after purchasing the van and he informed me that his mother returned it because things kept falling apart on it. I wish i had been informed before hand how much trouble it was going to be. I love chevorlet vehicles and i still like my van it's just costing me too much in repairs. I have also had to replace the driver window motor and the mechanic told me that it had already been replaced before. The passenger side window is now stalling and the gas gauge hasn't worked in year. I have to keep up with my mileage to make sure i don't run out gas. I am giving the date of the last incident when it was towed.*la

Has failed to start on several occasions, noticed strong burning odor from under hood this most recent time electrical components under hood were vibrating and smoking. 1999 astro blows fuses in cig. Lighter socket. When this happens, rear door will not unlock and windows will not operate. This can happen multiple times ina single day.

With no one in the car, leftside door, the switch that controls the outside mirrors started on fire. Luckly i was near the car with a friend and saw the running lights on the car flashing and the door switch on fire. By pulling the battery cable off we stopped the fire. The drivers door and switch where burned. The car drove home. On the way to work the next day the car headlights came on and wouldn't go off, then the heat motor started going on and off. I left the car with norwood motors to check out under warranty. My days may be off a day or two, but after a few weeks the service department could not find the problem and just replaced the main wire harness. Because it was a fire the dealership told me it was not covered under warranty, and i had to use my car fire insurance. I am still blowing fuses 20 amp fuses to this day, i am very experience in the field we are talking, i personally i beleive the door locks which are the 20 amp fuse, is back feeding to the low amperage switch and feeding back and burning wires in the harness. I've saved the orginal harness. This problem can be solved with diodes that only allow the current to flow one way. Children in a car with no keys can cause this a condition. This is not a fire accident, it's a wiring design that needs updating. I couldn't get anywhere with chevrolet, or the chevy dealership, because it's a car insurance problem know. So i am working my way insurance departments, and not the chevrolet, which puts me in the middle with no support. I hope you can help. Thanks for your time james reyolds.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle has an oil leak.the vehicle is leaking a liter and a half of oil per week.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the mechanic determined that there was a fracture in the system which was due to the material that was used during assembly.the manufacturer was contacted ,and they explained there were no recalls for that specific part.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet astro. The contact stated that the pass lock module that turned off the gas to the engine failed. The vehicle would start up briefly but then shut off. The dealer stated that it was a common problem but it was not related to any recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000 and the current mileage was approximately 125,000.

Heater/air conditioning switch does not work. The air conditioner will not come on at all. The rear heat blows cool air only. The heater is stuck on heat/defrost. This was a problem earlier with the van but was fixed under warranty. It has now acted up again. It started again at approx. The 70,000 km range. I could not check the air at this time since it was winter. Are there any fixes in place the gm is taking care of. Note: my address is not alabama but the province is saskatchewan. Also the door handles are poor. Rear one went and now the drivers side is broken. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The astro/safari has a brittle vacuum line that crosses over the thermastat area of the intake manifold. This plastic vacuum line is easily broken in routine service of the air filter or rubbing on other component parts. When this vacuum hose is broke...air select to defroster and other vent positions is lost-causing lack of visability. I believe this is a safety issue. I believe there is a gm tsb on this and it shows up on intranet threads yet gm dealers allow customers be to subjected to a $70. Diagnosis. This is a known safety problem. This vacuum hose is a "front row"stocked part at most dealers. I believe a lot of 95-03 astro/safari owners will have or have had this vacuum hose breakage.

Air conditioner vent replaced.mjs

The vehicle's air conditioner failed.the window on the passenger side door needed to be repaired. *sc

Dt: the vehicles fuel line fell apart. There was a smell of gasoline inside the house so the fire department was called. The lines came apart while driving, the fuel line busted and gasoline spewed. The mechanic instructed the owner that the fuel line can be snapped back together. So the owner snapped it back together. Owner has spoken with a dealership that instructed that they are aware of the problem. No other problems with vehicle.

When vehicle is in a starting position it shakes and loses power.

Engine misfires and runs poorly setting off the "check engine soon" light.the first time we took it to the dealer i was told this is very common in astro vans and i should not use chevron gas.i thought this was strange advice becausei never used than brand of gas.i had a record off all the brands of gas i used but the dealer was not interested and i was only told to switch brands.the second time i brought the van in for the same problem i wastold to switch brands again.now there are no brands left to try.each time the dealer added a clearner to the gas tank and idled the car for 45 minutes to "clean" the sticking injectors.the van also gets very bad gas mileage.i wrote a letter to gm and i was told that it was a technical problem that the dealer must solve.

The remote door locks on my 1999 chevrolet astro van have stopped working. They have also stopped on my fathers 1996 astro. There appears to be a problem with the remote door locks on the astro functioning properly. The do not open or lock with the remote device. Since door locks are an integral part of passenger safety i think the nhtsa should investigate.

The sliding door doesn't have any safety lock to prevent it from close unespectedly, causing my childrens to get injured.

Consumer states has problem with the electrical system, door latch does not work/passenger window does not open, and windshield wipers are not working. Dealer states sorry nothing we can do, you don't havea warranty.

Door locks will not lock at times, and will not unlock at other times. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything. Consumer feels that this is an unsafe problem. *scc

Left side of rear hatch will not unlatch/open

Malfunctioned rear hatchback door for a 1999 chevy astro.no manual overide/release from the inside of the vehicle like a trunk release lever on other vehicles.this is a concern as well as a hazard if the only option to exit was thru the rear hatchback door.it was also of great incovenience to get a disabled persons equipment out with the rear hatchback door inoperable.

Power transmission completely lost power while the vehicle is in use resulting vehicle looses acceleration and slows to approximately 5 mph.yh

Whenever drivingvehicle and putting transmissioninto reverse, vehicle will shutdown withoutprior warning.

Purchased used astro van and noted on 2nd day when putting in reverse then to drive a loud clunk and hard jump forward unless you delay taking foot off brake or applying gas until you can feel the gear engage (approx. 5-10 seconds). This is dangerous when backing up, as i have almost been hit twice now. It needs to be fixed correctly or replaced.

No reverse !while driving, slowed down to make a rt. Turn heard a loud noise .the van then started to shift differently, like there wasn't a first gear .drove vanhome parked it .nextdaystarted van up went to shift inreverse van would not move. Shifted to drive and went forward. Park van in garage and looked at linkage under van saw no problems. Must be internal.

The transmission has a dangerous problem - when shifting from park to reverse it works normal - when shifting from neutral or drive to reverse it takes 3-5 seconds to engage - this is not evident in the other two cvevrolets that i own (one has the same transmission) - this is dangerous since if you are parking on a grade you release the brakes to back up it starts to roll foreward before the reverse engages - it is also kind of dangerous while making a u-turn since while waiting for reverse to engage another car can come flying toward you - then if you "give it gas" too soon it spins and grabs suddenly making the car "jerk".

We have a 1999 chevy astro van.we had a factory re-manufactured transmission which was supplied by guaranty chevrolet on 8-30-02, installed. The van had 67,532 miles. We are original owners and never towed anything.we also paid to have a separate new cooling system installed for the transmission and also had the driveshaft rebuilt and balanced. Now, our 2nd transmission has failed at 44,547 more miles since installed in 2002. We have spent $5,700.00. Our transmission place wrote gm. Mark dowler of chevy called me and said sorry, we won't help you.we are going to small claims court if need be.thank you.

Vehicle shifts hard between first and second gear.dealer says 'transmission is slipping', don't really know without tearing down transmission what the exact problem is.recommends replacing transmission, dealer is contacting gm to see if they will cover this under warranty.

1999 chevrolet astro with 65000 miles.towed a light trailer (1500 lbs) from colorado to kansas, about 500 miles.a couple of weeks later the transmission occasionally started shifting very hard from 1st to 2nd; once it started, it would continue to do so until the ignition was turned off.odbii code p1870 set.apparently the computer monitors slippage in the trans and if it thinks it's slipping too much it applies full line pressure to the shift.hard on entire driveline and devastating to the trans - we're having to have it completely rebuilt although if we would have replaced the valve body when it first started it might have been okay.

I have complained about the transmission banging when going from 1st to 2nd gear.i was told that this was normal everytine i brought it in for a check up.this has been going on since the time i bought it.the transmission finally failed at the date mentioned. I lost reverse but i had drive.as i drove it home the rpm's were high and it barely shifted.i barely got it home since the transmission was slipping between gears all the way home.i limped it home then had it towed in the next morning. I got the van back 6 days later.now it slips before going to into 1st gear.it never did that before with the 1st transmission.it also slips between first and second again. I was told that was normal. I have driven 4 other astro vans the same year and make and they do not slip between gears.i know that the new transmission is going again and i only have 1000 miles on it.everytime i complain about it they always say that is not normal.when i first bought the van it vibrated very bad. I was told that was normal too. I had only 75 miles on it.they took it for a test drive and they told be that the drive shaft was bent and had to be replaced.they replaced the drive shaft 5 days after i bought it. I am fed up with this.i told them i am taking them to court if the transmission fails again.they said the reason the transmission failed was from normal wear and tear. Please help me with this problem.thanks.

Power transmission completely lost power while the vehicle is in use resulting vehicle looses acceleration and slows to approximately 5 mph.yh

The check engine light came on and the vehicle began shifting hard from 1st to 2nd gear due to premature transmission failure .

Defects listed as awd and transfer case may be same problem and were experienced from the first 300 miles and on (upon slowing down or accelerating a "clunk" was heard and felt from the front end also when cornering the vehicle "lurched/wheels grabbed" like it was stuck in 4wd.in july immediatly after it had been into the dealer to be serviced again the brakes caused the van to pull left at 35-50 mph and when slowed for corners would sound like "loose parts rubbing together".in august of 1999 (just before the replacement transfer case came in) van hit loose gravel traveling at 45-50 mph, pulled onto soft shoulder, forward about 12 ft, caught traction and came up on road, front left wheel was off ground when it came down the tire popped off the bead, wheel ground into pavement, flipping van on front, left side/corner, then onto hood and windshield, then onto full right side then upright crossways in lane it had been traveling in.the van was totaled.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet astro.while driving 25 mph through snow and ice, the contact lost control of the vehicle and slid off the road.the vehicle then struck a telephone pole.the air bags failed to deploy.the seat belt failed to restrain him and he struck his head on the windshield.the wound took 24 stitches to close.most of the vehicle was repaired at the cost of $4,500.the manufacturer's investigator concluded that the air bag would not deploy at 25 mph.the arkansas police department filed report number 07-00343.the current mileage was 146,661 and failure mileage was 125,000.

We have contacted and even went to chevy dealer for both problems no help at all. No safety defect listed.

While making a left turnseat belt came unlatched on the middle right of captain's seat. This causedconvertible child seat to move and child to hit head on the wndow . Child was not injured. Please provide any further information.

On three separate occasions now has the driver's seat belt has come unbuckled spontaneously while the vehicle was being driven. On one of the instances the vehicle had been driven over 100 miles with the belt buckled when it spontaneously retracted. Vehicle users are now noting "false positive" bucking, where they buckle the belt and then find that tugging on it indicates that it had not securely latched.

This was the second failure of the drivers seat belt buckle to latch. Original failure was replaced by dealer under warranty.

Passenger seat belt would tigthen itself while traveling, and intermittently unable to releaseseat belt when needed. Vehicle been in / out of dealer shop on six occasions, and replacedbelt retractors system twice. However, problem still reoccurring. Provide any further details.

I have 2- chevy astro vans. 1-1998, 1-1999. The 1999 has corroded brake lines and gas lines. The main brake lines are corroded into. I was coming back from a long trip yesterday and i noticed that the brakes were soft.when i got home upon inspection i checked the break fluid and it was low.i filled it.i noticed a puddle of fluid by the back tire. And looked, i discovered all of the brake and gas lines were eat up with corrosion.gm needs to take this as a very serious problem and fix it immediately.i could have been killed , or i could have killed someone if the brakes failed to hold. I inspected the 1998 astro van to see if it had a problem to. And upon doing so discovered it is fine, no problems. I have pics of both vans the pics will show that my statement is true.i bought the 1999 van (the one with corroded lines) in the state of ohio.and i bought the 1998 van in alabama.i do not know why this is, but i know i am not the only one with a faulty gm product with corrosive brake and gas lines. I am very thankful i discovered this before tragedy happened.this is a potential deadly problem, and gm needs to resolve this before someone looses their life, not after.any help with getting this resolved is greatly appreciated!i just want to let unsuspecting gm owners know about this danger!

Abs braking light appeared ondashboard and remained on. While applying the brakespedal went to the floor. Consumer lost control ofvehicle and struck another vehicle from behind.upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy.no injuries were reported.vehicle was towed, and totaled out by the insurance company.

Both front brakes on this vehicle wore evenly, paper thin in 8000 miles - this is abnormal since my old astro went more than20,000 miles and still had plentyleft when i changed them - both wheels spin freely without binding - my best guess is that the back brakes may not be grabbing (or the fronts may be grabbing too hard - chevrolet is trying to blame my driving - this is very dangerous since if the lining wears off it will pull to that side while braking and possibly cause a crash - i do not ride my brakes and do all highway driving - brakes are supposed to last longer than 8000 miles.

Intermittent failure of steering where steering binds turning right or left. Have to force steering to complete turns. Brakes also intermittantly will grab hard when coming to a fast, hard stop. Hydravac unit has been replaced. Dealer chacked power steering pump pressure per gm tech support. Plan now is to replace steering gear box. Don't see how this could affect brakes. Power steering pump has had a high pitched whine since it was new. Dealer and gm do not seem to be concerned with that.

While driving 20-30 mph and upon applying the brakespedal went to the floorboard, resulting inextended stopping distance. Consumer has contacted dealer. Please provide any further details.

Brake pedal was set too high , and when applying brakes vehicle would pull hard to the right. Vehicle been in / out of dealer's shop and nothing could be found.

Ifputting brakes on quickly they lock up and then they stop.brakes will grab/drift, then they stop. When consumer stops slowly they work fine.

Abs failed. Yh

When applying the abs brakes on wet pavementfront brakes lock up, causing extended stopping distance. Cause unknown.please give any further details.

In emergency situations when consumer has to apply brake hard, pedal will go to floor and stay there. Braking action okay.

Comments: why did everyone miss the 1999 chevy astro van with awd?i already had the front wheel bearings replaced (at my cost) earlier this year for the same problem!!! parts are no longer available, but local firestone garage performed the maintenance, and has the records of the service.near-miss too many times at low speed stopping problems. Some one needs to include the chevy & gmc mini-vans!!!

Brakes pads are wearing excessively.front brakes/ rotors & wheel bearing were all replaced.consumer received a phone call from gmc.apparently, they know ofproblem, but norecall was issued.something in the brake system is malfunctioning, according to the consumer.

During a moderate braking the vehicle will pull to the left side.it is very dangerous due to you have to hold the steering wheel while braking to keep from pulling into oncoming traffic.

At 29,000 miles the front brake rotors, bearings and pads had to be replaced. When i complained that this was low miles for brakes to fail, the manager said the brakes go out early on this model because the back brakes were not so good since the self adjusting was not reliable. I wrote twice to gm asking for clarification. I spoke to the manager;s boss who said i would replace brakes every 30,000 miles because the brakes were light for the van weight. Now at about 43,000 i am again having brake problems. Seems wrong to me.item 2 -at 35,425 miles i reported when the van was in for service that i push the gas pedal down and the van just did not want to go. Then if you held the pedal down after a bit, the van would jump forward because it suddenly got gas. This was bad when anything was around close because of the sudden acceleration. The shop said they would replace a part under warranty. I think it was called a throttle body, but i am not sure. They repalced nothing. They cleaned the throttlebody plate. The problem is now more noticable. From discussion with other people, it seems this lack of going as you put the pedal down, and then the surging ahead is happening to many people. This comes from an internet car problem chat site.

Defective driver inboard pad wornmetal to metal which caused extended stopping distance, may resulting in a crash.the owner inspected the vehicle and determined that brake system failure caused extended stopping distance but the dealer disagreed.

Bent and twisted fingers.the texture (finish) wore off the steering.the steering system on this astro is stiff "high effort" required by the driver to hold the wheel and also turn.when making a turn the wheel becomes harder to hold.too much caster?the finish wore off the wheel and thus a replacement was provided by the dealer at gettles auto mall in sebewaing.i learned at that time that many drivers were complaining that the steering wheels were becoming slipperly, difficult to hold.at the time my right tennis elbow sympton was very painful, and later my right shoulder became painful.this is because of the tight steering system on this van.this stiff steering design defect is not considerate of the human tolerance for this tight steering and as a result the joints, muscles, tendons become crippling painful.fingers become twisted and bent.a friend of mine has a 1988 astro and his fingers are bent and twisted, and he has cronic left shoulder pain.mr. Vehicle loses brakes and power steering due to a pin breaking inpower steering. Dealer contacted.

Dt*:the contact stated while applying brake pressure at 30 mph, there was an increased stopping distance and a loss ofpower steering which resulted in a rear end collision.the occupants were wearing seat belts, no injuries were sustained.there was minor damage to both vehicles, but they were able to be driven from the scene.the police were not alerted.the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer.the manufacturer was not alerted.the consumer replaced the pump himself and discovered the shaft was broken in the pump. Pulling into our driveway in the evening the power steering pump went out.as i tried to stop our van i noticed the brakes were also gone causing us to roll into the corner of our home (brick) at approximately 3 - 4 mph which caused approximately $2500 worth of damage to the front end of the van.no one was injured.it cost $300 to get the power steering pump replaced and another $75 just to replace the radiator fan and shroud so the vehicle could be made drivable again.after contacting several service agencies i find that the brake boost system has been incorporated into the power steering pump, hence, if you lose your power steering, you lose your brakes!i contacted chevrolet customer service (case #1-383499552) and their answer was, "you should still have some brakes if you push hard enough."i'm 5'10" tall and weigh 200 lbs.i had both feet pushing on the pedal trying to stop.imagine what would happen if this happened to someone in rush hour traffic or if they were coming off of the interstate at 70 miles per hour trying to stop their vehicle.gm needs to let people know the possibility of this happening.nothing in the owner's manual about it.we would also like gm to pay for the damages to our vehicle caused by us not being able to stop.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle lost power assist steering & power assist brakes simultaneously while driving 3 mph.there were no warnings prior to the incident.the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer, however, after some research, the contact discovered the power steering pump had failed, causing lack of pressure to the brakes and steering.updated 10/25/2006 - the shaft in the power steering pump snapped.

While driving at appoximately 10 mph power steering went out, whicle left the vehicle without brakes or any power. Vehicle was towed, and the power steering pump was found to be defective.

On the way home from a conference i noticed my left tire making noise, i inspected it visually and found no obvious problems, i proceeded home and had a blow out of the tire which i found out later to be related to a defective idler arm. I would like to see someone investigate this problem andsee if other astro vans have had this problem before.thank you.

While driving the vehicle would surge and jerk then clunk, the dealer has attempted to repair the vehicle several time but the problem resurfaces, other failures include pcm failed causing the check engine light to illuminate, the gas gauge jumps from full tank to empty causing the vehicle to run out of gas, rear door handle broke twice, drivers side window motor was replaced and the air bag light would flicker on and off. *nlm

Leased vehicle. Rear cargo door hinge and latch slipped off and opened totally to 180 degrees. Dealer contacted, and stated that it was an error in design. Problem still exists.

Dt: on friday the battery went dead and the owner couldn't open the back doors. The vehicle was parked in front of the house. The owner could not open the back doors to get to his tools. The owner was concerned that if an accident occurred no one could get out of the back doors. This was the way the vehicle was built. The owner felt this was a safety defect. The owner was not worried about the battery going dead, just about the back door not opening.

This is an intermittent failure which was repaired once at manufacturer's expense and is now occurring intermittently again but with more frequency. I am being told by chevrolet that it is my problem now and i maintain that this is an inherent problem with the vehicle and they are responsible for helping me repair this major problem with the suspension of this awd vehicle.

- the automatic door locks locked more than once. I called the chevrolet dealer since i could not leave since i could not lock the side doors; a mechanic informed me that it had something to do with synchronization of the automatic door lock while i actually lock the doors (very confusing to me). He suggested that i use a screwdriver to manually release the locked mechanism on both doors. I finally was able to do it, but this happened more than once; in one incident, the door opened as i was making a right turn (fortunately, no one was on my left). I wonder if others have experienced such problem which i feel is not safe. I never took this in for checking, but i might.- the motor on the driver's side window often locks and i am unable to close the window -- this has resulted in snow, hail, strong winds forcing me to stop and keep pressing the button in order to close the window and to continue my travelling. Anyone else with similar problems? i never took the car in, but i will inquire to the dealer about it -- hoping that there will be no charge for this malfunction.- the car was losing power in accelleration, which often made it dangerous on the highway while travelling, and merging lanes. The dealer just worked on the van last may, 2003, as noted above. Fortunately, this will be a good correction and i am just sorry that we had to pay for this.

Engine lunges/surges/accelerates to high idle randomly while brake pedal is pressed down. Dealership refuses to acknowledge problem since by virtue of its random nature, it has not occured when they drive it. Assistant service manager saidon 5/4/01 that he would be defrauding chevrolet if he put in a part that in fact did not resolve the problem, even though it is still under factory warranty and the problem has been pursued by owner since last fall.

While coming to a stop and went to pull into an intersection and vehicle choked out and stalled.consumer was able to start vehicle, but it stalled out again.contacted dealer, and dealer has not done anything.

While driving 40 mph vehicle stalled. Then, vehicle suddenly accelerated.consumer applied the brakes, but they were inoperative. This caused the vehicle to crash into a tree.upon impact, both frontal air bags failed to deploy.driver and two passengers sustained major injuries, and were transported to the hospital by ambulance.the vehicle was towed to a garage.

Vehicle began to lunge or surge foward, while consumers foot was pressed down on the brake pedal, at times the idle would reach a high rpm that it seemed as if vehicle would go out of control.

Had cruise control engaged prior to entering a reduced speed area and it functioned normally. After departing the reduced speed area, i engaged the resume function and the vehicle accelerated past the set speed and kept speeding up. I was able to control the vehicle with brakes although they got very hot and smoked severely. Attempts to turn off the cruise control failed, as well as turning off and removing the keys from the ignition. After successfully stopping the vehicle, i continued attempts to disengage the cruise control but any attempt to start the engine resulted in immediate racing of the engine. I examined the owner's manual and discovered that fuse number 6 was labeled "cruise module, cruise control switch, electromechanical mirror". The fuse was removed but the engine raced upon attempting to start it. I then discovered that fuse number 18 was labeled "vcm-ign 3, vcm-brake, 4wal, cruise stepper motor signal". Upon removing this fuse, i was able to start the engine, and it remained in normal parameters. I did notice that the antilock light was on, but believe this is related to the vcm-brake label on the circuit breaker. I was then able to continue driving the vehicle home, and will be contacting the repair shop to disable/remove the cruise stepper motor, as i refuse to chance another unintended acceleration event.

Engine revvs whenbrake pedal is pressed down and launches forward.dealer has replacedrotors/ rotated tires, and hadconsumer to test drivevehicle to make sure itwas being driven with two feet.dealer couldn't getvehicle to duplicate the problem. Dealer has asked to use only 2 brands of gas. Vehicle was last in, in march. The problem still exsists.

While driving down the street and coming to a stop sign vehicle would not stop, and vehicle went through, and still would not stop. Consumer had to turn t vehicle off, finally it stopped.

Accelerator malfunctions and some times accelerator will stick on immediately after depressingit.the vehicle is unsafe.

Dt:caller says the accelerator sticks on vehicle. Whengettingin and hitting accelerator it will not move. Whenpush ing hader it will go faster than expected. Dealer and manufacturer were notified.

While attempting to stop the consumers foot hit both the brake and accelerator pedal causing the vehicle not to stop, consumer believes the brake pedal and accelerator are too close together.nlm

Accelerator sticks on starting out, dealer advised that problem was due to carbon build up in throttle body and is normal. This is not a normal problem and i suspect a design problem, as no other manufacture i have heard of has this problem, dealer did advise they were having problems with chevrolet pickups. I contacted general motors for assistance in a refund and to notify them of the defect on 8/2/2001 verbally and put in a written claim on 8/14/2001 in a letter. I was advised via telephone 11/19/2001 that no assistance would be provided and that carbon build-up causing a sticking accel. Was a normal maintaince item. It may be normal on an astro, but it sure is not on any car that i am aware of or have driven in the last 38 years.

Brake pedal was too close to accelerator pedal. The brake pedal was bent to the right, and the driver's foot became lodged under the brake pedal, preventing her from stopping the vehicle, resulting in an accident. *ml

Family and i were on hwy 441 traveling at 60 mph.i braked and went down to 50 mph as i began to make an exit off of this hwy.i let off brake and car sped up to 60 mph and the cruise control was never on. I was on exit ramp going 60. I was forced to put transmission into neutral. I coasted to a place off the roadwhile engine was "reving at high rpm's".i snapped the gas pedal and engine went faster. I reached down to pull on gas pedal and throttle cable broke.vehicle was towed to a gm dealer the next morning. Their diagnosis was a dirty throttle body and stuck throttle cable. Never heard of an excessively dirty throttle body causing this type of problem, especially to a 3 yr. Old vehicle with 50,000 miles.

This van shuts down, without warning, anywhere, has been in shop twice since purchased ondecember 5, 1998, the rear heating stopped working jan-22-1999.

The vehicle's air conditioner failed.the window on the passenger side door needed to be repaired. *sc

Consumer states has problem with the electrical system, door latch does not work/passenger window does not open, and windshield wipers are not working. Dealer states sorry nothing we can do, you don't havea warranty.

Driver side window will go down but motor heats up trying to go up. 3 of our friends have same issue. Dealer says it is a $250 fix. For a 1999 vehicle this shouldn't happen. Utah safety inspection won't pass this off. If you surveyed astro owners you would find the same issue.

*nlm

Side window slammed shut nearly catching my daughters hand. She did injury her hand.

When water is on the wheels the water gets trapped inside of the wheel.if the water freezes, the wheels will be unbalanced. Dealer was contacted and is aware of the problem, they cannot duplicate the problem. *ml
