I was in a car accident going 40 mph and my airbag did not deploy. Although the vehicle is no longer drivable i feel this is a safety issue that mat need to be checked on other vehicles like mine.

Van involved in car accident. My van broadsided a 1990 lebaron. I was traveling approx. 35 mph. The airbag did not deploy. Chevrolet inspected the van and found no defects, but they refused to provide a copy of their investigation. The investigation was confidential, but they did not provide a reason for the airbag not deploying.

Consumer has experienced several problems with vehicle, right rear blinker and parking brake bulb failed.back hatch would not open, door was locked and would not open, dealer found latch rod retainers worn out.alternator failed.serpentine belt failed.air conditioner quit blowing.rear end was roaring, dealer replaced rear differential.oil pressure would go to zero, dealer replaced indicator.vehicle experienced missing, dealer replaced spark plub and distributor cap, when the engine cover was removed, dealer found the plug wires shorting to the cylinder head, dealer replaced all plug wires.vehicle would turn, but would not start, dealer found fuel pump shorted out, dealer replaced fuel pump system.oil leaking at pinion area, dealer replaced front differential and pinion seal.rear axle was replaced due to rear axle seal leaking.while driving, lights on dash started blinking, all indicator needles and gauges were jumping back and forth, smoke came out of the vents, consumer tried to stop vehicle, but brakes and steering failed, vehicle finally rolled to a stop, sliding door would not open, finally driver and daughter got out through front doors, fire and smoke came from under the hood, consumer's daughter has experienced chest pains due to this, consumer has to pay for the rest of the loan even though vehicle was a total loss.consumer feels this fire occurred due to the many electrical problems the vehicle experienced, she is requesting reimbursement, dealer would not help her.
The contact owns a 1995 chevrolet astro van.the contact stated that whenever the battery malfunctioned the doors do not unlock from the inside of the vehicle. The failure was not diagnosed by a dealer. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 175,000.

I have previously reported this problem.the van sometimes will not start.i can not get any help from chevy customer service on this problem. Everytime it has to be towed in and the dealer says there is nothing wrong.
The speed ometer works intermittenly and the windshield wipers also work intermittenly.sometimes the car stalls, or will not start and when taken to a dealer they came nothing is wrong.it also will sometimes run rough and will have a service engine soon light come on.i did receive a letter from chevrolet regarding some of these problems, but i was told my car did not qualify for a recall repair because there was nothing wrong.

Was driving vehicle when vehicle cut off/on. Speed does not make a difference. The electrical wiring is affected by the solenoid (starter) switch. Everything goes haywire & not work.
A screw that was pinching brake light wire, causing it to ground out/electrical failures.

My wife was traveling southbound on route 41 in princeton, indiana, at approximately 55 - 60 m.p.h.unexpectedly, and without her command, the cruise control engaged itself and forced the vehicle to accelerate rapidly. Please note that she was not utilizing the cruise control function at the time. Applying the brakes did not have the effect of disengaging the cruise control. Driver was fighting the force of the drive train unintended acceleration with full brake force, but the vehicle would not come to a safe stop. Finally, my wife had the presence of mind to put the vehicle in neutral to disengage power to the rear drive wheels.she activated the parking brake and the primary brakes to stop the vehicle. Once fully stopped at the side of the road, she called me at work for assistance.we had the vehicle taken to a repair shop and were informed that the cruise control module on the engine firewall had malfunctioned. The technician unplugged the electrical connectors to the module to permanently disable it.
I purchased the van used in 2000 and it burned down in 2001.i have had the wireharnes, aircompressor and fuel injection (recall) all repaired by dealer.while driving on hyway engine made loud noise and failed.pulled over and relized that van was on fire.fire deptment shut off fire.van was totaled. S1-2161972.dealer offered to partially waive cost of repair.i am concerned that repair consisted of re-routing wire to prevent break from happening again without input from gm on a safety issue.i seek to have the repair reviewed by gm engineering and obtain confirmation from gm of a possible safety problem with a wire breaking at the fuel tank area due to rubbing against the body or the chassis.

Engine stalls out for no reason/abs brakes do not stop vehicle when brakes applied/transmission fails to shift into reverse andinstrument panellights stay on during the day. Vehicle still running after ignition is turned off. Taking to dealer again.

I had received a letter awhile back stating gm was having problems with the linear egrs on the 4.3l engines and if any problems occurred to bring my vehicle into a gm dealership to have corrected. The prblem has occurred, but i can't find the letter and the dealership is telling me that tsb was only on their trucks.
On long trips over, 2-3 hours,engine light comes on and causes erratic engine bucking and will not come out of lower gears.

I received a letter stating that 1995 4.3l engines were having trouble with the linear exhaust recirulation valve.it describes the symptoms which my van has started exhibiting.while they were offering to fix vehicles with such problems they limited it to vehicles to under 75k miles.my van has 82k.my point was chevy recognized there was a problem with this valve (whether it was over or under 75k) it was defected...they have refuse to offer assitance even though they admit it is a problem...where can i go for help

When coming to a complete stop vehicle lurched forward about five feet.also, vehicle stalled intermittently, and hada rough idle. Vehicle was taken to the dealer four times andmechanic replaced the lower intake gasket/ egr valve twice, andfuel injectors.none of these repairsresolvedthe problem.
The egr valve had to be replaced on 4/15/03.

I have a problem with carbon building up in my ezra valve of my 1995 chevrolet astro van. This has been a constant problem. I have had the carbon blasted out more than once. I replaced the entire fuel injection system. I add products to help with the carbon problem, but it still continues. I contacted chevrolet customer care and was told to take my van to my local dealer. I have no more money to put into this van and chevrolet doesn't seem to care. It now sits in the driveway because cannot driv eit,it does start but dies at every stop.
Consumer stated while driving at any speed, and without warning the vehicle would shut off due to a badegr valve.
I recieved a letter of recall on the egr value the same day i picked up my car from the shop, where they had informed me that the egr was sticking open and they had cleaned and replaced it. All plugs fouled. Two weeks later the same sticking is occurring. Gm says that my vehicle is past the milage for reimbusement of repair cost. Can they be made responsible for repair expense regardless of the milage?
I have a problem with the egr valve. Gm offered to replace it before 75000 miles. Nfortunately my van has more than that and chevrolet dealer will not replace it under warranty.i think it should be consider for a safety recall campaign since when egr fails it stops the engine operation and power steering and power brakes.i almost hit hit cars waiting at the toll at florida turnpike when my egr got stuck while letting of the gas pedal to begin braking.i installed brand new egr but that didnt fix the problem. No help from gm.

There is a loud noise coming from air conditioner compressor under the hood. Dealer says it needs to be replaced.

Right turn signal failed.
The contact owns a 1995 chevrolet astro. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, there was a sudden loss of power steering assist. The vehicle failed to decelerate as the brakes were applied. In order to stop the failure, the contact had to power off the engine however, the failure recurred twice once restarted. The vehicle was towed to the contact?s residence where the contact independently replaced the power steering line. In addition, the fuel pump was found to be faulty and was also replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000. ...updated 11-12-13 the fuel pump wire connector on top of the fuel pump inside of the gas tank melted and the fuse never blew. The consumer also stated the second time the power steering line broke, he almost crashed into a hospital.
The contact owns a 1995 chevrolet astro. The contact smelled a strong gasoline fuel odor and the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic test. The failure was located at the fuel injector. The manufacturer was contacted but would not assist with the repair because the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 06e041000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). The vehicle was not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 125,810.
The fuel pump makes a very loud humming noise.

The van would seem in perfect running order, but after parking and returning to vehicle, it would not start.after several times, the vehicle wouldn't start at all.when we took off the fuel pump, which is located inside the gas tank, the wires had shorted out and were burned.this seems dangerous and i feel it could have started a fire or caused an explosion.i checked other complaints and i am not the only one this has happened to.please make the manufacturer check this part and make sure it is safe and that this will not result in a fire for someone else!!

The fuel pump went out while driving down the road at 40miles per hour, thereby losing all power steering, brakes etc.is the 3rd time in 3 years this has happened.first time stopped at red light, stalled and refused to restart, 2nd time waiting for bridge to close, today going down road.could have been very serious.has been replaced each time.
The vehicle has cut off while driving due to a defective fuel pump. The fuel pump has been replaced 3 times. Dealer can't find the problem.
Fuel pump/sending unit assy. This vehicle among other vehicles made by gm and gmc have a defective door latch that fails and will not allow the driver or passenger to be able to open the door from the inside or outside to get out in the case of an accident or vehicle fire. This problem for several years and gm did nothing to recall and fix this problem. This is an extreme safety hazard that should have been corrected. Owners are put at extreme risk for losing their life in an event where they need to exit the vehicle. Please force a recall so that no additional lose of life will occur.

It was a light snow falling but the temperature was above freezing and the streets were wet. A consilidated freightways truck cut in front of me so i had to apply the brakes. The abs system did not pump the brakes like it was suppose to. The van skidded into a dividing wall due to abs failure. The van was totaled. I had seat belt and air bag trama. I was driving at about 20 mph over an overpass when i saw that the car in front of me had stopped.even though it seemed that there was plenty of room to stop (maybe 200 feet) when i stood on the brakes, it only slowed the van down but not quick enough.i thought it would be better to hit them straight on rather than swerving and maybe cliping them.i did not feel any vibration from the abs brakes.i also did not lay a skid mark.i bent the stearing wheel but the air bag did not deploy. Problem: font end shakes so badly that you can't control the vehicle when brakes are applied.when applying the brakes at speed of 40 and above the vehicle front end shakes so badly that you have to take your foot off the brakes to keep control of the vehicle. This causes the stopping distance to be extended far greater then it should be. Also this shaking has caused me to replace the idler arms . If it was not caught in time they would have broken loose, and total control of the vehicle would be lost.(put in shop on these dates for shaking in front end when brakes are applied. This started 6/8/98 @29407milesdealer resurfaced front rotors cost 73.20. In shop again 9/4/98 @32946miles. Dealer resurfaced rotors again no charge. Shop 10/21/98 @34520miles dealer replaced rotors and idler arms no charge. In shop 12/9/98 @36746miles shop need rear breaks that is problem with shaking in front end. Cost 244.52. In shop 12/11/98 @36750miles shaking again shop resurfaced rotors cost no charge. In shop 3/23/99 @ 40500miles shop called on 3/24/99 need rotors resurfaced and tighten idler arms, cost unknown at this time. This is a very serious problem in the breaking system that could cause serious injury to anybody on the road because before you can come to a compleat stop you have to remove your foot from the breaks and reapply the breaks again causing the breaking distance to shorten greatly. Also since the shaking has cause the idler armes to be replace once and tighten again there is know telling when they will break loose and total control of your steering will be lost. As you can see there is pattern showing from the repair dates that this problem will not go away it just comes back after a couple of thousand miles. I was on 401-east in toronto. I took the islington rd exit and tge traffic was crawling at the best. We wre tarvelling at less tah 10mph and i was about 5ft behind the car in front. I wanted to slow down and used the brakes. The car stopped in a coulple of feet and then lurched/surged forward with my footstil on the brakes. This is the thrird time this happened. The other two times it was in lansing and it happened at much higher sppeds. I tokk it to the dealer and was told that this surging/lurching was normal for abs brakes. This is a very serious problem in the breaking system that could cause serious injury to anybody on the road because before you can come to a compleat stop you have to remove your foot from the breaks and reapply the breaks again causing the breaking distance to shorten greatly. Also since the shaking has cause the idler armes to be replace once and tighten again there is know telling when they will break loose and total control of your steering will be lost. As you can see there is pattern showing from the repair dates that this problem will not go away it just comes back after a couple of thousand miles. The contact owns a 1995 chevrolet astro. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, there was a sudden loss of power steering assist. The vehicle failed to decelerate as the brakes were applied. In order to stop the failure, the contact had to power off the engine however, the failure recurred twice once restarted. The vehicle was towed to the contact?s residence where the contact independently replaced the power steering line. In addition, the fuel pump was found to be faulty and was also replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000. ...updated 11-12-13 the fuel pump wire connector on top of the fuel pump inside of the gas tank melted and the fuse never blew. The consumer also stated the second time the power steering line broke, he almost crashed into a hospital.

Intermediate link missing grease fitting although the hole was drilled..location for fitting not visually accessible unless mirror used.missing grease fitting caused water to gain entry to ball joint and cause premature failure.this vehicle was greased at least twice at dealer who should have picked up missing grease fitting. Takata recallupon leaving my condominium parking lot, there is a slight curb you must drive over before exiting. The left lower control arm came loose while making a right turn onto a local city street. Resulting in the vehical to collapse on the drivers side of the car. The frame is rested on the front left tire, also damaging the drivers side door as a result. Considering the facts, the car was then completely immobile. I had to call a tow costing $100 in order to move it about 150 ft. Back to my designated parking space. Recall # 95v175000. This happened on 07/05/2017.

This part was had a design change by the company of chevrolet, although they failed to post this anywhere.i have talked to the company and written them a letter and they are not concerned. The front of my car fell down in a parking lot thankfully and not on the highway. I can supply you with a copy of the letter if you wish.we checked around and found no warning of failure of this part. There is a problem, my husband called two local chev garages and they said they thought there should be something done and there is a problem here.the original part is narrow at one point, which is where it broke and the new part is wide all the way across. They know , of course that this original part is inadequate, or they would not have had a design change. My husband is a mechanic on semi trucks and he feels that this orginal part was not adequate.people should be made aware of this problem. I am pretty sure the company is not interested in making this happen. When the front of your car falls down going down the highway i am afraid that some people would not be as lucky as me.

I don't feel a torsion bar should fail sitting in my garage, the wrecker driver said it was the third one he had hauled in the last two weeks i am glad no one was driving it when it broke the mechanic said ther would be no way to steer it when it was broke.

It is obvious that this is a design defect, confirmed by the redesign of the torsion bar assembly. Chevrolet refuses to acknowledge that this is a design defect and has any safety implications (re: chevrolet customer assistance center 800-222-1020, file # c 04856310). Looking through the nhtsa compliants data base, numerous other torsion bar failures can be found and it is apparent that gm was aware of this problem for at least 2 years - however there has been no tsi or safety warning issued. How many injuries and deaths have to be attributed to torsion bar failure before gm issues a safety bulletin and admits a design defect that threatens the public safety ???????????????? i guess after gm takes your money they don't want anything to do with you until you're ready to buy another of their over-priced, poorly designed pieces of junk.
Left front torsion bar failed.crack started at a rust spot on bar.classic 'beach marks' indicate failure was propigating from the rust point.asked manufacturer for coverage under warranty, but was turned down.was told by dealer that a new style torsion bar was all that was available and that both bars had to be replaced along with the supports that connect the torsion bars to the cross member.i complained that if only one failed, i should only need to replace one.i compaired it to a v-8 head gasket failure, only one is repalced unles there is a reason to replace both.i believe that the requirementto replace both bars is an indication by chevrolet that the design is faulty (this is backed up by the replacement being a new design).the new design does not allow for debris to gather around the rear portion of the torsion bar as the original design did.

Left torsion bar snapped while vehicle parked - drops body onto frame, approx 8-10 inches.if this happened at speed, would almost certainly lose control.dealer service mgr says they see "lot" of these failures.called gm - would not admit that safety problem exists.service mgr insisted that both l and r be repaired, because "the other side will probably collapse any day". Vehicle had to be towed to dealer. Total repair and towing $707.94.

Torsion bar snapped on straight stretch of highway while traveling at 45 mph with 1 adult driver and 3 adult passengers on board. At the time of failure, a sound like a tire blowing and an immediate sag on the driver's front side occurred. The vehicle could not be turned due to the tire contacting the wheel well. If this had occurred at 65 mph and on a curve, disastrous results would most likely havehappened. No previous damage to the torsion bar could be detected by the repair facility. The repairs made required replacement of both torsion bars because the original equipment part is no longer distributed for use. An improved version is now used, which requires the additional cost and installation of a conversion mount and the replacement of both torsion bars. The required repairs cost approximately $700.00. Since the oem parts are no longer available, it leads one to believe that there have been numerous failures of the torsion bars for this type vehicle and the manufacturer is aware of the problem.

Vehicle was parked .consumer realized vehicle was dropping. Had vehicle towed to dealer, and mechanic stated torson bar was corroded, resulting in vehicle dropping.
My family and i had just driven about 50 miles and were going to eat dinner, while turning right off a street we heard a loud pop and the left front corner of the van fell. I assumed we had blown a tire, but when i got out to look, the tire was still up. After jacking up the van and looking at the ball joints, tie rods, etc., i realized that torsion bar had snapped. Fortunately this occurred at a low speed and did not cause me to lose control of the van - 2 minutes earlier and it would probably be a different story. The first dealer i contacted told me the part was discontinued and i should try a junkyard to get the part i needed. The second dealer i contacted told me there was a conversion kit i could buy, but i had to convert both sides, and the cost was "at least" $500. If i had known i needed another $500 and was risking the safety of my family, i would not have purchased this vehicle. How about some help gm?

While driving at approx 10mph in mall parking lot heard a ping and left front of vechicle droped to were the tire hit the wheel well causing loss of steering, if had happened on hi-way at hi-way speeds could have resulted in severe accid or death. Dealer said was a design flaw that gm knows about and redesigned. Had to replace both torsion bars and buy an adapter kit with towing and repairs cost was $910.00 of which i had to pay. Beleave that since gm had to redesign the bar it shows a flaw does exist, and that gm should at least pay part of the repairs. But have heard nothing from them concerning that. What will it take, a wrongful death lawsuit to get gm to acknowledge this? or purhaps a consumer class action suit.

When this bar breaks it does cause the vehicle to drop on the frame.it shocks the driver and becomes momentarily difficult to steer.if this would have happened at high speeds or in slippery conditions it would have been a real problem.i contacted another dealer in this area to price the parts he commented " you mean the torsion bars that always break" .with that comment just from one dealer i would definetly say gm has a major problem with this part on this vehicle.
The front left torsion bar broke after we came home. A couple of hours later the right front torsion bar broke so that we couldn't turn the steering wheel without the body of the van hitting the tires. We feel extremely lucky that this did not happen while driving, as it would more than likely have blown the front tires and we could have had a major accident. After having our van hauled on a flatbed wrecker we were advised that these vans have a history with the torsion bars breaking. Both the auto repair place and the wrecker service said they were really surprised that there wasn't a recall as this is a safety hazard. We want to make sure you are aware of this problem as other people, like ourselves, have no idea that the whole front of these vans can just drop down on the tires while driving when these torsion bars break. Again we feel very fortunate that ours broke after we returned home from church sunday and not while driving 70 mph on the highway!

Consumer has experienced several problems with vehicle, right rear blinker and parking brake bulb failed.back hatch would not open, door was locked and would not open, dealer found latch rod retainers worn out.alternator failed.serpentine belt failed.air conditioner quit blowing.rear end was roaring, dealer replaced rear differential.oil pressure would go to zero, dealer replaced indicator.vehicle experienced missing, dealer replaced spark plub and distributor cap, when the engine cover was removed, dealer found the plug wires shorting to the cylinder head, dealer replaced all plug wires.vehicle would turn, but would not start, dealer found fuel pump shorted out, dealer replaced fuel pump system.oil leaking at pinion area, dealer replaced front differential and pinion seal.rear axle was replaced due to rear axle seal leaking.while driving, lights on dash started blinking, all indicator needles and gauges were jumping back and forth, smoke came out of the vents, consumer tried to stop vehicle, but brakes and steering failed, vehicle finally rolled to a stop, sliding door would not open, finally driver and daughter got out through front doors, fire and smoke came from under the hood, consumer's daughter has experienced chest pains due to this, consumer has to pay for the rest of the loan even though vehicle was a total loss.consumer feels this fire occurred due to the many electrical problems the vehicle experienced, she is requesting reimbursement, dealer would not help her.

This is the fourth of four (1st odi#719304, 2nd odi#719313, 3rd odi#719345) complaints against g&c autobody, re: renting out vehicles with the gross knowledge of safety defects for profit. I rented the chevrolet astro van on 02/09/2000 (rental agreement #25919, repair order #000676, rental rate $5.00 per day) while our vehicle was to be repaired. The rental had leaks in the two front tires, i had to put air in them every other day so they wouldn't go flat. The windshield wipers worked intermittently and of all times , it had to be when we were getting some heavy rain. I couldn't unlock the passenger door from the outside. We were told it would take five weeks to repair our vehicle. When we started complaning about my injury from the third rental they called our insurance company and said our vehicle was totaled, that took six weeks. We suffered for six weeks with faulty rentals, suffered one injury (the petaluma police dept. Said g&c has to carry insurance for that), i received a certified letter from g&c telling me i didn't use the faulty sealt belt as intended (i wish he would have told me how to use a saftey hazard properly) and at a cost of two hundred forty dollars. I would really like to know how he can put peoples lives in danger and not feel or be responsible for it? i was told to contact you by contact 4 (channel 4 news in the s.f. Bay area). I would very much appreciate a reply concerning the four complaints. I can send you a copy of the certified letter if you wish. While traveling approximately 50 mph in a 1995 chevrolet astro, the left front firestone radial atx tire size: p215/75r15 dot: vdhff3a146 experienced tread separation.there were approximately 10,000 miles on the tire and it was not original equipment.the tread separation caused damage to the vehicle.
The van rental company purchased firestone firehawk and bridgestone-firestone dueler (225/75/16) tires, the tire treads would separate from the casing with 3000-8000 miles.mlm

While driving on 2 lane road had driver to driver front end collision. Front vehicle gave way and crushed. The driver was trapped and had to be cut out. Then taken out side sliding door. 2nd vehicle also an astrovan similar damage the driver died on the scene.
The speed ometer works intermittenly and the windshield wipers also work intermittenly.sometimes the car stalls, or will not start and when taken to a dealer they came nothing is wrong.it also will sometimes run rough and will have a service engine soon light come on.i did receive a letter from chevrolet regarding some of these problems, but i was told my car did not qualify for a recall repair because there was nothing wrong.
I was driving at about 20 mph over an overpass when i saw that the car in front of me had stopped.even though it seemed that there was plenty of room to stop (maybe 200 feet) when i stood on the brakes, it only slowed the van down but not quick enough.i thought it would be better to hit them straight on rather than swerving and maybe cliping them.i did not feel any vibration from the abs brakes.i also did not lay a skid mark.i bent the stearing wheel but the air bag did not deploy. I had my brakes seviced just 3 week before the crash.they gave me new front brakes and did my front end.i also got new tires.my husband tried the brakes on a country road the next day and the van went sideways.the abs light did not come on til about a week after we got the car back from the repair shop.at about 25000 miles the abs light had come on and romania chevrolet fixed the abs under the warrentee.

Intermittently while driving vehicle and removing foot from accelerator pedal the vehicle increases in speed.this also happens from a dead stop in reverse. Vehicle has been in shop at least (5) times for this problem; on 10/96, no problem found, and on 12/96,cruise control replaced. Vehicle was also serviced on 1/97 & 2/97, no copy of work order, on 3/17/97 vehicle wasstill in shop.

The windshieldwipers have a mind of their own.the wipers don't work when the switch is turned on.often the wiperswill cyclewhen not needed and on their own.the wiper blades have to be replaced toooften due to wear. We cannot control the speed of the blades with the switch.2. The window on the passenger sidedoes not work correctly while using the switch.

Windshield wipers began failing in the summer of 1997 and finely progressed to the point wherethey would never come on. I love my astro and it has been the most reliable vehicle i've ever owned, but i would have sold it if i lived in seattle, wa. My only saving grace is that i live where it seldom rains hard. 1995 trucks and/or suburbans had recalls for intermitent wipers due to defective or inproper solder connections, which would cause connector failure to the motor. Since, astros were not included in the recalls, dealers (i.e. More than one) told me that they would only do the repairs at my expense. I know my problem is a poor solder connection because i can push in on the wires at the "pin" connector, leading to the motor, and the wiper motor will begin running. The biggest hazard is that the connection fails during operation. Poor connections like these are also fire hazards, (p. S. I'm a firefighter and most non-accident related vehicle fires i have been on are due to electrical malfunction). Also, 65 mph in traffic, in the rain, is not the time to jump out and start pushing on connectors to make my wipers work. With all of the families riding in astros,i can't believe there hasn't been any recall for this serious safety defect. I understand that noone has been killed yet, but just because astros are not the choice of vehicles of attorneys and the well off, doesn't mean they should be ignored. Proaction in this matter should and must be taken. There are 40 complaints for the same problem on this web site. It is a safe statistical bet to mulitply that (40) by a conservative number of 100 and you could be looking at 4000+ astros driving without reliable windshield wipers. I believe that in quite a few states functioning wipers are required to pass annual safety inspections. (who paid for those repairs?) waiting for another "firestone" is wrong and negligent.

Windshield wipers would work when ever they wanted. After numerous attempts of troubleshooting the problem, found circuit board in wiper motor bad. Replaced wiper motor and no problem since. Still took several months to finally find problem and driving in the rain was very exciting.

Recall campaign 03v150000 concerning windshield wiper motor.before the recall was done, the windshield wipers were operating prior to dealer replacing the circuit board and cover.currently,after repairs were done, the windshield wipers do not work.the dealer wanted to charge the consumer to replace the windshield wiper motor.*sc after the complaint was filed the dealership decided to fixwindshield wipers.

Have had numerous intermittent failures of the wiper system. Reported the first incident to the dealer while the vehicle was under warranty. They found no faults with the vehicle. The wipers have been operating intermittently all thru the vehicles life. It did not happen very often at first, but as the vehicle has gottenolder it occured more frequently. It finally quit working altogether today 1feb99. Being an ase certified technician, i made a diagnosis of the vehicle myself. I discovered that the circuit board inside the wiper motor was at fault. I could lightly tap the circuit board and the wipers would resume operation. When i called my local dealer to check on the part ilearned that this item has a particularly high failure rate. They actually had 63 of them in stock. The parts person stated that they sell like hotcakes. I really feel that it is to late for my van as i have no choice but to purchase the circuit board at a jobber cost of 28 dollars. Normally i would notbe over concerned aboutproblems of this nature, except it almost caused my wife and son to have an accident. I personally think that the problems that gm has with their truck wiper motors extends into other gm body styles as well.

The speed ometer works intermittenly and the windshield wipers also work intermittenly.sometimes the car stalls, or will not start and when taken to a dealer they came nothing is wrong.it also will sometimes run rough and will have a service engine soon light come on.i did receive a letter from chevrolet regarding some of these problems, but i was told my car did not qualify for a recall repair because there was nothing wrong.

Wipers will start running with switch off / when turned on in wet weather they will stop on their own or when turned to intermitent setting they will stop in the middle of the arc it was reported to dealer while vehicle under warranty were told they were replaced then 1 year later they did the same thing again, now they are doing it again problem only happens in wet weather conditions.

Fuel injector plugs up and fails.it runs very rough. The windshield wipers on my van fail to operate about 50% of the time.i was told that this is a common problem with the astro and that it was recalled in vans with certain vin numbers.i do not understand why my windshield wiper motor has not been recalled.i never know when my wipers will work or not, which is extremely frustrating.many times i've had to remain in my van until the rain stopped before i could drive home.now, my vehicle is due for inspection, and because of my defective wipers, i am not able to pass inspection. I would appreciate it if you would look into this matter.i will have to spend an outrageous amount of money to replace a defective wipermotor which should be replaced by the chevrolet company. Vehicle transports 5 children and handicapped wife-- if wiper motor goes out during travel at high rate of speed an accident will occur/ we have just gotten lucky.2 auto places said that part is on recall from chevrolet but can't find any definate information or recall number to complain to chevrolet. Due to the defective windshield wiper circuit board, the windshield wipers malfunctioned which may cause visual difficulty and could result in an accident.
Rear wiper motor functions intermittently.opening and closing the rear hatch temporarily fixes the problem. It has done this since the vehicle was purchased but dealers have refused to replace the wiper motor because the motor worked when inspected by a technican. Not a safety hazard but a nuisance.

The windshield wiper motor has not completely failed but on a number of occasions has seized while in operation nearly causing accidents. Dealer refused to replace wiper motor while under warranty because it had not completely failed and worked when inspected by the technician.
