Driver's airbag didn't deploy at all. Consumerwill also give more information.

Both front power door locks on driver side and passenger side malfunction intermittently from inside of vehicle regardless of whether or not the engine is running. Secondary problem is the battery draining if left more than 24 hours without being started. Both batteries are one year old, in good condition, and are the right type. The main battery drains first, so when the auxiliary battery is still strong, the engine will start. I feel that the cause of the battery/batteries draining is not the batteries themselves but another source, possibly the front power door locks. The interior lights or exterior lights are not the source of power that is draining the battery/batteries. This vehicle is used and owned by a disabled person in a wheelchair. The vehicle is equipped with an auxiliary battery to accommodate a wheelchair lift, driver's power seat, and power sliding door.

Electrical: driving approximately 40mph and suddenly the electrical system went dead, and the vehicle slowed down to 20mph instantaneously right in the middle of traffic. Took vehicle in to dealer and was told there was a short in the electrical system where two wires had touched. Two wire terminals that supply the ignition switch shorted and burned the switch.

Dashboard lights stopped working in 2000.during that time they had only come on once.dealer at night could not read any of the gauges.consumer owned a 1986vehicle that had the same problem.warranty will not coverrepairs.

An aftermarket power steering line freezes up and when the car is started, it blows and there is no power steering.this is for a handicapped vehicle.

Consumer states that while his wife was driving the vehiclethespare tire came loose from the carrier and fell off onto the road. Could have caused an accident.

Mark iii conversion van owner's manual did not specify replacement ceiling bulbs. When two front bulbs burned out, they were replaced by gm specified replacement bulbs for 93 astro. After this replacement, the bulbs melted the plastic lamp housing, with a resulting potential of fire.

Top mounted overhead lights had wrong voltage of bulbs used in them,resulting in melting of plastic inside vehicle.

Van has been hard to start for a couple of months.could not start van without additional voltage assistance.since van would run once started the fuel pump was not suspected.when van was put on a scope, the fuel pump pressure was diagnosed at 45 (specs are from 40 - 50, according to manufacturers guidelines).after having the fuel injectors, alternator and plug wires replaced, the van still would not start on its own.shop pulled the fuel pump out of the gas tank to take a look at it and the wires had melted and were charred.live wire was exposed for about a one inch section.3 inches of wire were melted. Connector was badly charred to the point of disintegration.since fuel tank sits under the middle row of seats, this is an extremely scary scenario. I have saved the original fuel pump and would like someone to look at it.if the second wire would have melted, the van would have blown up instantly, as it is, we are really lucky that it did'nt catch fire with us in it. Driver's door latch is broken, also rear door latch broke.

Transmission stuck in park/replaced. *tw

Transmission sounded like it was full of rocks for a short while, kind of caused the van to jerk like the clutch was slipping, then would not shift at all, would not move forward or backward, just like being in neutral in all ranges. Cut off engine, checked for transmission, still full and red, got back in started up and van drove off. Seemed to shift normally, then came to a red light and the van did not want to move anymore. Cut off, let set for few minutes, started and drove off. Van will drive in asteady speed state for 5 miles or so and acts like clutch begins to slip and then like being put in neutral. It will not pull.when going up a bridge or steep incline, the cruise control tries to kick down a gear, it then acts like transmission goes into neutral and engine races. Almost got caught on a bridge coming home didn't think it was going to pull over it. Very scarey!!!

The van will not shift into in drive or reverseunless it is started in neutal first. The problem was corrected once in 1994 free of charge. Dealer is aware ofcurrent problem.however,problem has not been corrected.

Vehicle fail to shift from park position to drive when brakes are applied. Had problem repaired previously under tsb #93c56a. Has happened at least 4 different times. The shifting problem happens only when it's hot. Taking vehicle back to dealer.

The van was in the parking gear with the ignition off, and the gear shift went from park to drive, causing the van to roll forward. Before this happened, the gear shift was stuck in the parking gear for about 5 or 10 minutes, and right after turning off the engine this incident happened. The park solenoid and the cruise control valve wasreplaced by a mechanic.

Female part of lap belt in bench seat is too long causing it to be hazardous.not only is the belt over the rib cage but the hard piece of the belt is in the wrong place causing discomfort in normal driving.on an adult, it also fits wrong,it is so long it still allows the belt to come over high hip area.in a quick stop this could cause injury. Please inform me if anything comes up to get this fixed!!!

Consumer received a recall notice concerning seat belts, had work done under recall, vehicle continues to have same problems as before recall repairs, consumer wants recall work to be done again.

The safety restraint system (seat belts) in the rear seats have a long plastic sleve on the female end, this plastic sleve does not allow proper tightening for a infant and young child safety seat, in order to properly tighten a child seat down you have to cut the plastic sleve off and then twist the female receptical as many times as you can to create a "shorter" end so that long female receptical will be down in the groove of the seat far enough so that the belt can be pulled tight and the receptical will not hinge on the child seat installation holes. (this is really hard to explain in words, please call or contact me for a better verbal explanation.

The contact owns a 1993 chevrolet astro. The contact stated the steel brake line rusted and the brakes failed. While replacing the brake pads the fluid leaked onto a rusted area of the brake line. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 175,000.

Anti lock brakes need to be pump for application.

Vehicle has abs brakes. When applied,abs braking system would fail to stop vehicle. Took to dealership & mechanic placed vehicle on hoist, and pushed on brakes & nothing was happening. Needed to replace brakes.

While driving in snowy weather brakes were applied the, pedal felt normal, but the vehicle felt like it was on ice skates. To stop the vehicle, consumer had to cruise until the vehicle slowed down enough.dealer has been contacted.

While driving vehicle about 25 mph and whentrying to step on the brake pedal to stop vehicle, the pedal wentto the floor, and the brakes were making a grinding noise without stopping for a few feet away.

When coming to a panic stop or whenhitting a bump in the road the brakes release, causing the truck to take more time to stop. The truck hit another vehicle in the rear, and the truck had plenty of time to stop, but whenputting on the brakes it takes longer to stop.

When going 45-55mph & have to brake hard, suddenly vehicle would go either left or right. The abs brakes would fail to catch at that high rate of speed.

Consumer was notified by representative at manufacturer thatvin was a part ofrecall. But, dealer advised consumer that after recent changesvin # was no longer under campaign and will not be covered.

Consumer complaining of abs brake system having failed on three occasions, once resultingin an accident. First time consumer was driving on road at 35 mph under normal road conditions.was pulling over to the side of the road to stop, while applying the brakes,the vehicle began to accelerate, and brake pedal wentto the floor and stopped within inches of hitting vehicle in front.second time, while driving and applying the brakes to come to a stop when heard an unusual noise coming from the wheel as she was applying the brakes, and the vehicle wascoming to a delayed stop. The final failure occurred while consumer was turning off the highway during 20 mph on normal road conditions. When approaching vehicle in front, consumer commenced to apply brakes, but the vehicle failed to stop, causing it to hitvehicle in front of her. Dealer was not informed at this time.

Torsion bar that support engine broke in two.*lathe manufacturer changed the design and shortened the bars by three inches. The old design allowed salt, water and ice to get into the extension sleeves.

My 1993 chevrolet astro van was recalled for paint peeling several years ago.my vehicle was taken to a local chevrolet dealer who "repainted my vehicle".they had it for at least one week.when it was returned, it did appear repainted.however for the past three years the paint is slowly peeling off on the top of my van.it is now starting to get worse and the silver metal is showing and it is becoming quite noticeable with some small rust spots.there does not appear to be a cover under the the top of the vans paint. Small areas on the doors and windows, that are not the same color as the rest of the van are also peeling.if you look around athens, ga, you can take notice of the other chevrolet astros that are also peeling paint.is there any recourse to take care of this?

The outside door handle on the front passenger's side is extremely loose, and the door handle on the back of van is broken. The door will not open. Dealer has been contacted.

Common failure according to my mechanic (new hope automotive).right front suspension collapsed while parked in driveway, certainly would of led to a serious accident if i'd been driving when it occurred.my mechanic said the dealer has sold 70 of the same part in last week.serious failure, should be a recall.

Was involved in a single accident, which a deer ran out in front of me i merge right to avoid hitting the deer, and rolled 1.5 times and when resting upon top of truck, the rear left tire broke off of the hub, and axle.

After parking vehicle front of vehicle dropped due to left torsion bar breaking.dealer informed consumer part had rusted through on outside, design has been changed on new part.

When owner went to sit up in the van, the left front driver's side corner dropped down onto the wheel. After the van was towed to a garage, the torsion bar was found to be broken. This part is on back order. Please provide any further details.

The van was in the parking gear with the ignition off, and the gear shift went from park to drive, causing the van to roll forward.
