C.p.i. Fuel injector has failed 4 times in the last 40,000 miles resulting in engine shut down, loss of power steering, power brakes, windshield wipers, etc. At highway speeds. I'm told by mechanics that the leaking fuel at the c.p.i. Fuel injection unit is also a potential fire hazard. Chevrolet denies knowledge of such failures, but there is all kinds of information about other failures on the internet at alldata, carpoint.msn, consumer reports, etc. My family is afraid to drive this vehicle due to potential fire hazards, loss of control at highway speeds, being stranded in dark, freezing weather, etc. Please help. Fuel injector spider went out 88000 miles, and vehicle was not driveable, also,fuel pump was changed at 88,000 and 115,000 miles. However,bothfailed again.
I waas just informed that gmc has a special policy involvingfixing of a very dangerous fuel system problem cmsi for ca. Chevrolet, astro vans. My van was included in this policy. Gmc refuses to fix problem even though it is within the 10 year span. The problems have existed since i've owned the vehicle however since the van is over 100,000 miles they refuse to fix it?the fuel injection , fuel regulation etc. Is a mess and has been a total nightmare. Stalling in traffic, lurching forward, very strong gas fumes inside and out, bucking, lack of power etc. It has been very dangerous for all of these years. I have tried to correct the problem which always comes back to the fuel system, spent much money to no avail. Now i find out there was a recall or 'policy' and i didn't need to have myself or passengers in danger and smelling gas fumes all this time and gm refuses to correct problem. I even have a case number c03196007 and i've talked to angelette in customer relations for gm as she said they won't fix it. She referred me to you?? and to better business bureau?? i transport teenage baseball players in my vehicle, i cannot afford a new car. Please help!!
The first fuel injection unit failed at 103,000 miles and i had it relplaced at harbor chevrolet, and now the second one is failing 35,000 miles later.i was nearly involved in a head-on collision when the engine stalled and on restart was running extremely rough.this occurred while making a left turn in an intersection.a chevrolet dealer mechanic said that there is a problem with those units, but that his hands were tied by company policy.

Was driving and a truck pulled out of drive way in front of me. Hit the brakes and they worked for a split second but then went out causing an accident. Since that they brake tight and abs light came on and continues to stay on at all times now. I do have brakes just not anti-lock. Have checked the whole system to fix and found that it is a common problem. The abs module is no longer available so can not remedy this problem. I live in a state that has safety and emissions tests that it will not pass. I have done research on this issue to try to get fixed and parts for hours to no reveal. This item should be a recall due to the danger of failure and number of complaints. Also most people will not report these problems because the brakes still work just not the anti-lock part of iut after all my brake pedal is not spongy or low in anyway actually they are good. I cannot even find a good one in the junk yards as i have bought 2 units and both were bad so had to return them. What a waste of 8 hours total to find that they had same problem. I have 192354 miles on it now and still runs strong. I feel that each time i drive it i am taking a risk of hurting other people including myself. We cannot afford to replace this vehicle so it is like playing russian roulette when driving. Gm needs to fix these vehicles before any one dies and they get sued (if this hasn't already happened). Like i said it has been a great reliable vehicle other than this problem. So everyone that does have this problem needs to report it so gm is forced to address this problem.

I was alone in my vehicle, and had just parked at my destination.i was leaning back in my seat reaching for my seat belt release when the seat broke free allowing for a rocking motion.i inspected the seat myself when i returned home and discovered that the frame steel supporting the bottom of the driver's side, 6-way power seat fatiqued and broke, allowing the rocking motion to occur.fully clothed, i weigh less than 160lbs and felt the metal failure must be due to a defect.i contacted the chevrolet customer assistance center (01-feb-1999) and was given file number 990054464.adrian, the chevrolet representative taking my call told me that they could not assist me with the replacement of the seat due to the age and mileage on my vehicle.

The contact owns a 1992 chevrolet astro.while driving 10 mph, the abs would not work after a certain amount of braking and the brake pedal would extend to the floor when depressed.the contact took the vehicle to a repair shop a few times, but they could not duplicate the failure.when the mechanic test drove the vehicle, it always performed perfectly.the repair shop disconnected the abs.the failure mileage was approximately 100,000 and current mileage was 128,000.*updated 12/12/07 updated

The farther you turn the wheel the harder the brakes are applied.at higway speeds, around moderate curves, the brakes are applied and the cruise controle is deactivated.we are not sure how this part functions ( power assist, steering), but we are concerned that the brakes are activated with a slight turn of the steering wheel at highway speeds.on wet roads or in "avoidence situations" if the steering mechanism activates the brakes, loss of control of the vehicle may occur.

Abs problems, intermittently when applyng the brakes quickly the pedal travels to the floorand there is no braking ability. This happens on dry road conditions. The dealer is not able to detect a problem with the brake system. The van has been in two crashes because of braking system. One in june of 94,and one in october of 97.
Abs light came on, andthe abs brakes were not working. Dealer reset abs brakes one time, and they did not work.reset them again, and third time they could not reset them. The system had gone to bad.

We have had problems stopping the van. When you use the brakes you must be very very familiar with them and not hit them hard, they must be applied very gently otherwise they will not stop the vehicle. It will just keep on going they lock up or something, i am not a mechanic and the word lock up might not be right. The bottom line is they do not stop the van if you do not apply just the right amount of pressure. In an emergency they would be extremely dangerous. We always just lived with it and adapted, but it is not right i think.

Power steering pump failed twice.first time due to wear and tear to operate properly while traveling at 10 to 15 mph, and 20 mphsecond time.each incident causedloss of steering and control of brakes due tobrakes running through this power steering pump. This vehicle is unmanagable when power steering is lost due to being four wheel drive and steering being hard to handle.consumer states steering is lost completely at time of steering pump failure.
The power steering pump and power brake pump are one unit, therefore when failure occurred,both units were effected.

I had this steering component ( forged part ) break on left side last year and now the right side. If i had been traveling at 70 mph and this component break then i suspect that we would be dead for both incidents. I suspect some faulty parts manufactured by oem. This type of failure should not occur. I suspect many other people are in jeopardy if they have similar vehicles and parts. I think someone should look into this situation. Please keep me advised as to what you find out.
While driving at 20mph the steeringlinkage idler arm broke off and broke through the frame of the car,causing complete loss of steering control.

Vehicle has 2 idler arms that are failing after 2 years of use. Manufacturer modified this model vehicle in 1994 to use one idler arm instead of two.

Paint was peeling off body of vehicle due to faulty primer.
I am trying to find out why so many chevrolet/gm. Vehicles that year and older seem to be having a problems with the paint just bubbling up and peeling off. The paint on my van is starting to do the samething.i see vehicles every day with the same problem.i have never seen paint do this before. It is not the fault of the owner. Yet chevrolet will not take any responsibility forit ! is there any thing i can do ? i've thought about making a photo journal, to show them what a problem this is.do you know if there was a problem with paint that year?thanks for your help. Brackets holding fron tdifferential/transmission disconnected from frame, falling down on steering column rod, causing steering to lock.

Consumer called complaining about having front suspension problems.stated that front suspension will rust out and then break. Manufacturer was contacted, and stated that he will have to change not only the front one but two other extras ones that the vehicle comes with.

Vehicle was parked in driveway. Torsion bar snapped in half while sitting with no one around or in the vehicle. Front end dropped 3-4 inches as a result. Vehicle was repaired, replaced both torsion bars.
Torsion bar broke while driving into driveway.gm and dealer fail to admit the design defectwhich was corrected on 1997 vechicles and is now required for repairs.no torsion bar seals were ever installed per gm's manual accordding to mydealer mechanic.this seal was intended to prevent road debree and water from entering the support tube and causing the rust, stress corrosion and eventual failure of the torsion bar.the fact is that gmcorrected the design defecton 1997 models without admitting to the design problem, thus endangering the lives of owners of such vechicles.furthermore, gm failed to suggest any type ofmaintenance instructions for this sealin any of their owners manuals.i can't believe this design flaw hasn't resulted in deaths and law suits.the nhsa data base shows approximately 90 customer failures from 1992 thru 1996 with failure number peaking at 35 in 1995.please investigate this situation and save someone's life.thank you.
The torsion bar on driver's side broke.consumer contacted the manufacturer, and was told that the prpoblem was not a recall, and there was nothing they could do.
