Electrical short occurred in circuit to intermitten ignition switch, damaging ignition switch and fusing other circuits together.
The leading wires into the electrical harness shorted out and fused together.
Vehicle was parked in driveway, under dash compartment fire, electrical short.
Car parked in driveway.upon turning key to start, smoke started billowing from under dash. Shut off key, disconnected battery and aired vehicle. Found melted/ bare wiring. Contacted cheverlot custormer service (#990501z66, contact kim hill). Individual reported nothing gm could do to defray costs of repair. Dealer estimate at $2,240.
An electrical short in the dash caused the vehicle to catch on fire while vehicle was parked. Vehicle is a total loss.

This astrovan shows severe rustout of all underbody components, particularly steel brake lines, calipers, drums, rotors, etc. Suspension components also have rusted to the point where they influence vehicle safety. Dealer asserts that this is due to improper storage or submersion in salt water but van kept on asphalt pavement and never used in water. Condition existed from first year of ownership. Independent mechanics asseerted rustout is characteristic of all astrovans they have seen. To date have replaces over $2000 of brake, running gear and exhaust components in 45000 miles. This is clearly not normal wear and tear.
Ie97031; air conditioner fan switch wiring melted, and eleft an odor which may start a fire.please provide further information and vin#.
When turning on the air conditioner on there is a bad odor in the truck . Please describe .

The back double door will not open anymore. I can not get into the van to place my sons wheel chair into it. The space in the rear was the reason why i purchased the vehicle. Cosumer got a flat tire and couldn't get to the spare tire because the rear hatch latch is broke . Please describe .

Consumer once stopped, stepped on thegas pedal and car made a clunking noise in the back, like something was going to fall off. Sounded like something was loose. Thengot into place, noisestopped untilstop and go again. It was not the transmission. Took to dealer, they couldn't hear the clunking.

Repeated total failure of brake system resulting in three separate rear end accidents over 13 year period. Original owner. When braking for sudden emaergency stop,after initial braking begins, brake petal goes down to floor and brakes completely release, resulting in no brake stoppage of vechicle and susequent rear ending of vehicle in front. During initial application of brakes, vehicle pulled extremely to left for three months. But, when applying brakes at approximately 60mph, vehicle pulled to the extreme right, dealer can't correct.
Although both the abs and brake light areon the brakes appear to function properly . The master cylinder was checked and is working properly . The code scanner reads a complete failure of the antilock brake system. The dealer was contacted and advised me i was not covered under the recall for failed brake systems.
After a stop, vehicle off, i drove for 1/2 mile to a stop sign, road completely dry, no sand, dirt, etc, 55 degrees sunny, and brakes worked nornal as i slowed from about 20,,then all of a sudden complete loss of brakes,,and pedal went to floor,,and i pushed harder in panic,,went thru stop sign,,and took foot off brakes, and pumped pedal,,and they now worked normal.i made a left turn downhill toanother stop sign,,same exact thing, this time i went out into a 4 lane hi way..was able to steer back into right lane,,,and stop vehicle like before,,i tested brakes again,,and they again worked normal.i drove very slowly10 to 15 mphand made a left turn into shopping center ,,uphill,,and tried brakes..again failed.i stopped, checked fluid reservoirs under hood, both front and rear good,,,,i wiggled wires on bottom front of unit,,,restarted the vehicle, and they now worked,,buti am afraid to use them or it..now what..park it ??help

Steering column bushing made of plastic breaks loose resulting in wheel having play. Owner states control in/handling is difficult. Please describe details.tt

Consumer stated while driving pins in steering column sheared, causingsteering to drop. Consumer had to pull to the side of the road and call a tow truck.consumer had vehicle towed to his home, and repaired the problem himself. Also, door handles broke off, all almost at the same time, within a week apart.consumer replaced them on his own.
Loose idler arm replaced due to steering problems, replacement arms became loose after 24,000 miles. *aw
The door handles on both the passenger and driver side broke off. The sliding side door lock engaged before the door fully closed breaking the locking mechanism. I have seen several astro as well as safari vans with missing handles. I am having trouble finding replacement doors.

The rear doors were designed without handles,in the event of an accident, consumer would be unable to open the rear doors, from the inside.

Vehicle's sliding door came off while opening.
Sliding door won't shut, dealer replaced lock, and now says door needs to be replaced.tt

Excessive and rapid tire wear caused by inferior front suspension that is original factory equipment.
The rear spring that holds up the back end has cracked manufacturer offers no help.tt
Premature wear on front tires.
Both blowouts had the appearance (to a non-expert) of a tread separation problem. (dot number: mkm3 trhrtiresize: p215/70r)
While driving, right rear winston tire 8.75 r16.5 lt experienced tread separation, upon inspecting other tires, mechanic stated 2 of the 3 remaining tires were beginning to separate, which was causing steering problems.
Firestone radial atx tires(p215 75 r15)experienced tread separation.
Paintpeeling off truck all over
Cruise control disengages without pedal or control application. This happened without any indication. Consumer experienced same problem in 1994, and the cruise control system was replaced by the dealership. Dealer not aware of current situation.

Windshield wipers work intermittently when weather is rainy. This causes poor visibility for driver.
