Fuel will leak out of evap canister due to high heat condition in engine compartment. Rear air bag leaks down and affects handling, dealer says they all do it.

Noticed bad fuel smell from day one of owning the spyder. Would leave outside while it cooled off or put a box fan on it to blow the vapors out of the garage. In august of 2013 i noticed the brake lights staying on, removed side panel to fined the wires melted and shorted together. I also noticed the plastic on the master cylinder showed signs of melting and of getting hot. I repaired the wires with high temperature electrical tape. I received a safety recall notice from brp in september for heat related problems. The dealer found the fuel evaporator canister almost burned through, it was replaced and covered it with tin foil heat shield. The dealer did not think the brake master cylinder was melted bad enough to warrant changing and covered it with tin foil heat shield. I had them to leave the wiring as i had already repaired it. The bad fuel smell continued with the new fuel evaporator canister and the fuel boils where you can hear it after a ride. If you look under the spyder after a ride you can see fuel vapors spewing and dripping from the vent line, and it will continue for maybe an hour or longer. It is sometimes hard to put fuel in because it makes the gas pump nozzle keep cutting off.

I have a real safety concern involving the rt's. The button that operates the park/front trunk opener can...and has, resulted in a very dangerous situation. The button to open the front trunk failed to unlatch the trunk. It will only unlatch when the bike is powered on. Yesterday, 9/9/13, my grandson wanted me to take him for a ride around the neighborhood. I put on his helmet and placed him on the back of the bike. I needed to get something out of the front trunk, so i pushed the button down to open it...it failed to open after repeated tries. I got off the bike and as i was pushing the button i was lifting up on the trunk to see if it was opening. While pushing the button, it toggled to the park position and the bike started going back and down the driveway. Thankfully i am quick on my feet i was able to run with and jump on the bike to stop it. Why why would they put the trunk opener on the same switch as the park???i was shaking for a good 1/2 hour over that, thinking about what could have happened if i weren't able to jump on that bike as fast as i did to stop it. Brp really needs to restructure this park/trunk opener feature.

The contact owns a 2013 can-am spyder rt. While driving 55 mph, the heat emitting from the top of the vehicle measured 169 degrees fahrenheit. In addition, the contact had to continuously steer the vehicle in order to keep it in position. The vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 15v095000 (engine). The vehicle was taken back to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,000. My right foot becomes extremely hot while riding for great then 60 min at highway speeds. Even my wife as a passenger complains. I also noticed my driver seat and gas cap get quite hot also. Please fix the heat issue could be very dangerous.

600 mile service complained to dealer of extreme fuel smell after rides.was told that the purge valve was bad and they replaced it under warranty.rode home and noticed that the fuel smell was the same. When i checked under the roadster i found fuel dripping from the bottom of the roadster.i called dealer and was told to top off the fuel tank before putting vehicle in garage.dealer saidthat this was normal. 4600 mile service again complained of extreme fuel smell after rides.asked dealer about hot hot right foot was told by dealer this was normal and the roadster was operating normally.9200 mile service complained of extreme fuel smell and heat on right foot, no heat left hand grip, and intermittent heat on right hand grip, warped righthand center body panel. When service was complete i asked about no heat on hand grips. Technician found loose connectors at both hand grips and that the connections could be a problem if there were gas fumes in the area. Body panel ordered and replaced under warranty. Told by dealer that the panel was bent from factory not heat.technician and service manager did not agree and both said it was caused by excessive heat.

Excess heat has melted the brake line twice, master cyl. Melted, braks get soft and inhibit stopping power, electrical wiringis degrading from excess heat, gas tanl get so hot the gas starts to boil, panels are melting and warping from excess heat. The unit has been declared un safe to ride. Brp refuses to address the safety issues, all recalls and upgrades have been done and the problem is just getting worst, brp, will not fix only offers to hide the cometic damage

We were part of a national bike club ride to a beach resort accompanied by approximately 300 riders. When we departed about 7 am, temperatures were in the low 70's. The route was mostly downhill and we maintained an average speed of about 50, 60 mph. After just over one hour we arrived at the resort where we all moved to a large gravel parking area near the beach. Within seconds after i shut down and dismounted, grey smoke started seeping up between the body panels which quickly turned into black smoke smelling strongly of burning insulation. In less than a minute fire broke out from the front top vents and burned through the upper plastic body panels extending more than 3 feet into the air. A fast thinking member rushed up with a co2 fire extinguisher and started extinguishing the fire that by then flowed out from under the bike an threatened bikes parked nearby. Fortunately, the fire was put out within 2 or 3 minutes with no damage to other property or any injuries. At no time during the ride or at any other time, even when ambient temperatures were over 80 did the temperature gauge register more than normal. It wasn't until the day after the incident that a friend informed me that there had been a recall on the year & model warning of possible fire hazard. Also, upon close inspection it was noted that one of the fuel lines was burned, and was leaking.

The contact owns a 2013 can-am spyder rt. While driving approximately 15 mph, the motorcycle began to overheat and stalled without warning. The motorcycle was able to restart however, the failure recurred on two other occasions. The motorcycle was taken to the dealer where it was informed that the contact was driving to slow which caused the motorcycle to overheat. The computer was reprogrammed. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v095000 (engine), however the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that themanufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 900.

Have owned rt limited for less than one year with heat issues. While returning from event in north carolina bike ran fine in the cooler temperatures. As soon as returned to the south, engine began to run hot and check engine light on and off as well as bike chugging and running roughly. Bike shuttingdown and had to let cool off before would restart. Have had extreme heat issues since purchasing bike especially in hotter months here in houston area. Have had updates done per brp recommendations to no success. Bike is not safe and fear riding any length of time or prolonged distance. When parked in garage after riding find there is a strong gas smell in the garage. For this reason usually leave bike in yard for upto 30 minutes prior to putting garage for fear of fire consuming home. Not sure what this report will do but feel like someone should be made aware of how unsafe and potentially dangerous these vehicles are. Dealers are at a loss for what to do as i have experienced same problems with a 2013 st limited model that was traded due to brake failure and extreme heat issue melting parts. Thought the rt model would be better but find myself in same situation.

To brp can am spyder2013 can am spyder rt limited9-29-2014 i have a brand new can am spyder rt limited stopped on me 2 times in first gear with 120 miles. Next this bike stopped on me again 11 times over the weekend. Thisbike shuts off at every light i stop at. Which is dangerous. I was almost rear ended at least 2 times ..i told my salesman that i have a strong gas smell in my garage .i took bike and dealership told me to leave overnight due to strong gas smell and shutting off.my bike was ready for pick up the next day. I was told the canister was ok and the loud fuel smell should be gone .i was advised that all recalls for this model have be done.i was told dealer did a gas treatment and was advised bike is a 2013 model which had gas sitting in tank for a long time . I was ask if i top off gas and i told the dealer no! i read all the booklet and watch video pertaining to this bike along with signing up for spyderlover.com.. I know all bike have break in periods, but this is totally unacceptable and surely not safe. I was informed to just ride my bike and to rev the engine when it seems like it's going to shut off. Now with 500 miles the fuel smell is even stronger and i have lost count on how many times it shuts off in 1st gear at a light or just sitting in the garage. I call the dealer again. They informed me that after 1,000 to 1,500miles these issues should go away after the 600 service. Now, . The reason for this letter is that this bike is not safe because of the strong fuel smell and i don't want to be rear ended due to bike shutting off at every light.i am addressing this issue to prevent the issue of a possible accident or a fire. Now with 1,300 miles and serviced at the dealer the gas smell has gotten worse. Im trying to prevent a fire or bad accident from happening. Spyder website have several complaints onthis issue with the gas.

My spyder get so hot that it is not bearable to ride, extreme heat from the engine compartment sends extreme heat to my legs and heat coming from the seat. I have seen reports on this particular spyder catching fire which make me very uncomfortable to ride. Brp in canada needs to recall their spyder'sin regards to this problem. I currently have about 1,500 miles. I have had problems since march 2013 to present. The heat also causes the gasoline in the tank to boil which is a hazard also.

My spyder has been leaking oil since the day i bought it new. I have owned it for 6 months, has been in the shop several times. Still leaking.gas fumes so bad coming from the engine after riding i can not close the garage door for at least an hour/.smells of gas really strong every time i am on the bike.gas cap so hot i can hardly touch it when i need to get gas.

The contact owns a 2013 can-am spyder rt. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, there was a burning fuel odor as well as excessive heat coming from the passenger side of thevehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer multiple times. The technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v095000 (engine) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 700.

2013 can am spyder rt.consumer writes in regards to recall received regarding elevated temperature in the engine compartment.the consumer is currently waiting for the bike to be repaired. Updated 12/17/15

This machine is just too hot to ride and be safe.reports of other units catching on fire.emailed brp but never got a response.i've had to get off and turn it off to let it cool down.ended up selling it at a huge loss.

On friday, 24 october 2014i rode the spyder to the dealer, where the technician, [xxx], connected it to the b.u.d.s. Computer. I am also sending [xxx].a courtesy copy of this email.the computer obtained information that pointed to a problem with the purge valve and vapor recovery canister, as well as a problem with the engine control module (ecm). This is in addition to heat and gas vapor issues when the ambient outside temperature is 75 degrees and above.yesterday afternoon 27 october 2014, i took the spyder on a ride yesterday of about 30 miles on local roads. After i returned home and shut off the spyder briefly to open the garage door, it didn't want to start. The starter turned the motor over, but the motor would not start. After 4 attempts, i was finally able to get it started. I am fortunate that this did not happen out on the road.the spyder had a strong gas vapor smell, which was still evident the morning in my garage. I checked the spyder this morning and it started with no problem. I suspect the ecm and purge valve codes that the b.u.d.s. Computer detected are to blame, but the heat issue is something that brp needs to address. I, along with many owners of the can-am spyder, have concerns with safety and heat issues. I will say that i enjoy the spyder, but i would enjoy it far more if my concerns with safety and reliability are addressed. My spyder is still under brp original warranty, and i'd like these problems to be addressed by brp under those terms and not at additional cost to me, because the spyder is not inexpensive to buy.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The area around the front of the seat and bodywork gets extremely hot, hot enough that legs/thighs become very uncomfortable and have to raise off of seat whenever stopped to get some relief from the heat.this is especially apparent when riding in warmer weather and sitting at stoplights and stop and go traffic.the hot air coming out of the lower right side directly onto right leg and boot is also becomes very uncomfortable.the storage box in front of the seat is basically unusable due to the heat and the bodywork also becomes extremely hot at times.

Vehicle has no means of releasing heat trapped under plastic paneling when at low speeds or when vehicle is stopped. Had two breakdowns at stop and go situations where the vehicle was not moving allowing heat to escape. This affected other components (evaporator canister...ect) which cause failure and renders the vehicle unsafe. Having conversations with brp i know they are aware and have no solution. This is not an isolated incident brp now has come out with the 2014 model and clearly states in its advertising campaign that "on our new models we address the heat issue" so you know you have it... And you fixed it on the newer models while behind you lies customers with older models that are clearly defective and quite unsafe... I say this not by what i've read, but only on my personal experience, the machine has heat issues.

The bike gets very hot. I have already had the exaust wrapped but it is still very hot to ride.

Brp canada has issued a recall on all canadian spyder rt's for heat related melting of the secondary master cylinder plastic top which could cause fire.i just returned from a 300 mile trip today on my 2013 can-am spyder rt-s and heard about the canadian recall.i checked the secondary master cylinder and discovered the plastic top piece had begun to melt. It is very close to the exhaust pipe.i have complained to the dealer that there was a heat issues and was told the heat was normal. I have also had to use a glove to remove the gas cap as it will burn your fingers after riding for any distance. You can also hear the gas boiling in the tank when refueling.i have photos of the melted plastic top of the master cylinder.please do a recall on these can-am spyders.brp says it is up to nhtsa to do the recall.the dealer will not cover this under warranty at this time.i was told not to ride or ride at own risk. I have heard of several can-am spyders erupting into flames for unknow reasons.

I purchased this when there was a large rebate for buying the 2013 spyders. I have been plagued with a hot seat and right foot since the beginning. I wind up having to move my right foot to the rear passenger floor board to escape the heat and there are times where my inner thighs are burned where the heat is coming up around the seat. I found out that there was a recall on this bike and will be having this done as soon as they get the parts in but from reading information on a blog that i subscribed to, it probably won't help. I also understand that there is an investigation going on and want to add my information to it.thanks

Smell gas vapors in the garage and housebafter driving it. Seat front top where it meets the body(storage compartment) to hot to touch or sit on without a sheepskin pad and still very uncomfortable and likely dangerous. Right foot gets so hot from the motor your can't keep your foot in place. Have to wear heavy boots. Have had the recall and electronic updates.

I purchased a 2013 can am spyder in july 2013. From the first day i purchased the vehicle i have experienced what i consider a dangerous amount of heat radiating from the engine.also, i can smell gas fumes and i am told that is because the gas is actually boiling due to the heat problem.i have tried different fixes recommended by other owners and they did reduce the heat somewhat but it still feels like i am riding on a bomb just waiting to explode.since i paid over $27,000 i can't just put it away.the reputation is so bad the unit has really depreciated and the only person will to buy the vehicle would be someone who did not do their homework.are you aware of similar complaints and do you have any suggestions?i can't get anyone at brp to discuss the issue.it is not the dealers fault.

I was out for a ride and noticed the heat on my thigh and legi reported it to the dealer, and they said it was a recall issue and they applied a thin strip of heat tape under glove box.so on june 10th i noticed it was getting even hotter so i got a thermostat and put in glove box and rode over to the dealer, a 20 minute ride, the thermostat registered 155 this area was so hot it melted my seat and burn my thigh. So on june 23rd i left it at dealers and brp informed them to apply more heat tape and replace the seat, which was done.i picked it up on july 9 the and rode it home and got burned and it registered 150 after a 20 minute ride and the outside temp was mid 70's. Seems like heatlike that over a gas tank is asking for trouble before someone get blown up. Brp has no answers for us, please investigate why not and save us from injuries.

Can"t stop an oil leak. Afraid it might get hot and catch on fire!!! *dt

This motorcycle continually has a very heavy fuel smell after riding. The heat generated by the engine is extreme and causes my right foot to be very hot. When i arrive at home i have to use a fan in the garage to get rid of the fuel smell. Brp/dealer claims this is normal. I am afraid that there will be a fire similar to the one that happened this past saturday, 26 july 2014 here in california.

This is my 3rd spyder.although i am happy with it, it does emit heat in which sometimes on hot summer and humid days is not an acceptable feeling.this model year emits more heat than previous year models.

I was riding on highway 291 in lees summit mo traveling at 65 mph. The daily temp was between 92 - 95 degrees.the fan was blowing the hot air out from the bikes radiator area and with the bike being in motion the hot air was being routed onto my right leg and i could feel my leg getting hot to the point that i was unable to keep my foot on the foot peg for longer than 10-15 seconds after which, i needed to keep shifting the location of my foot on the foot peg.i also noticed that the right side panels and the air coming from under the seat was uncomfortably hot.also when refueling the gas tank filler neck was too hot to touch.during the first long trip on this bike (weekend of oct 25-26) from grain valley mo to eureka springs ar (540 miles round trip). Temps were in the 70's during the trip to ar and when refueling i noticed that the gas tank filler neck was overly warm.the return trip, with temps in the mid 80s, the heat on my right leg was becoming uncomfortable, the right side panels were hot and the heat under the seat was overly warm.refueling, the gas tank filler neck was almost too hot to touch.

This is a new bike with extremely heat issues from the engine. At first dealer appointment it measured 140 degrees after i parked 10 minutes. While riding extremely hot air blows at your bottom right leg and travels up the seat. The whole right side panel the front of the seat and tank makes it to hot to the touch. Pipes were wrapped from dealer which did not take care of problem. I was told brp will do no further solutions regarding the heat issues. I am concerned about the tank getting to hot to the touch.

Heat under the seat is to hot to ride safety. Always trying to shift and open legs to try and get some relief. Heat coming off the right side has actually caused a red heat rash on my right shin from my ankle upwards. When refueling i am so scared that the gas is going to flame up because of the fumes and the heat radiating from under the seat which must be lifted to refuel. I have tried placing aluminum foil under the seat in the hopes of dissipating the heat but it has not worked. I store my can am spyder in a trailer and must leave all the doors open for several hours until the fumes subsided. I am afraid of a fire and have moved the trailer far away from my other vehicles and house.

The right side panel by the seat gets excessively hot to the point you cannot lay your hand on it, the screws will cause a burn if touched. The excessive heat caused a 1st degree burn to the thigh. The gas cap gets so hot it will burn your fingers unless you wear gloves and the gas in the tank get near boiling from the excess heat. I do believe this is a serious issue, gasoline can be come explosive if it get too hot. I have contacted the dealer and brp, about the problem and was told it is just characteristic. I have received a 1st degree burn twice and the boiling gasoline issue just is not an acceptable answer. It is a serious safety issue. I would hope that action to correct the problem will not wait until there is a serious injury of death. I believe immediate action should be taken to correct the excessive heat problem and brp well aware of the issue but has chosen to ignore it until there is official action to correct the problem.

The contact owns a 2013 can-am spyder rt. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v095000 (engine) and stated that the parts were not available until mid may 2015. This was an unreasonable timeframe because the dealer and the manufacturer had no interim repair to approve for the authorized dealer. The dealer did not provide a specific date when the part would become available to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repairs. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The contact owns a 2013 can-am spyder roadster. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v095000 (engine) however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. The vin was unavailable.

While riding my can am spyder for approximately 30 minutes, i was stopped at a red light for over a minute. I then began to feel excessive heat from the right side of the bike, where my lower thigh and knee touches the panel of the bike. I also began to smell a strong odor of burning plastic (sort of like when a resister or computer chip gets fried). I immediately drove home where i checked the bike for burnt plastic. I did not notice any burnt plastic, however i did not remove any of the panels to check underneath them. It was approximately 77f when this happened. I am very concerned that the excessive heat will melt components underneath the panels or start a fire. The panel was very hot to the touch. I did receive a very slight burn to my thigh area after the ride.

I road my rt from maryland to myrtle beach sc. On the way there the bike was heating up on the right side burning my passenger and my leg.once i got there i took the bike to a brp dealership to get an oil change and had to pay $335. I asked them to do a check up because my breaks were sqeaking and there was hot air coming from the right side and that the controls for the passenger do not work . When i went to pick my bike up they told me i had several recalls on my bike, and the switch was bad. I said i just got it may 17, 2014 and they said none of the recalls were done.the dealership did not tell me there were recalls on the rt.i think they should be held responsible to tell customers that there are recalls. I did not receive and recall notification in the mail either.i did contact a brp dealership and they told me they will have to keep my bike for 1 - 2 weeks to find out what the recalls are.e are 25 complaints and no investigations i think nhtsa need to do some investigations before someone gets badly injured. Everything i have read had basically happened to me too. Please help us to get this problem solved.

My motorcycle suffers from excessive heat build up due to changes made to the 2013 model including the master cylinder and gas cap. Sometimes the gas cap is too hot to touch and when opened it is boiling gasoline. You can barely touch the front of the seat due to elimination of heat insulation material in front of it for this model year. I have seen and suspect the master cylinder is starting to melt on many 2013 rt & st models. Brp has acknowledged this in a canada recall.as some of you might already know, today transport canada published a recall notification from brp on all 2013 can-am spyder rt and st series roadsters.brp has proposed a solution to the issue raised by the recall; this recall notification has been approved for affected motorcycles within canada by transport canada. Agencies in other countries are also reviewing the solution for their own jurisdictions, including the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) in the united states.all of the details on the issue, the recall and the solution are being communicated to brp's canadian dealers as well as to all canadian owners of a vehicle that is affected by transport canada's. As soon as we have the green light from agencies in other countries, we will release the same information to the dealer network and owners of affected vehicles within those countries, including nhtsa in the united states.

I received a recall notice about the elevated temperature in the engine compartment on february 26, 2015. In the safety recall notice i was advised to contact brp dealership, which i did immediately.i was told the part was on back order and to call back in april i contacted them again in april, was told the states with the hottest temperature was first call back in a month.i call in may, was told again, the part was not available.called back in june was told the tool to fix the problem was not available.meanwhile in ohio the summer months are here, and this still has not been resolved.i contacted brp in canada, no response. This can am was purchased new off the show room floor in 2014, and i am advised to not ride it when its hot, or in traffic.i am not a happy camper right now, i purchased the bike to enjoy the summer months, ride with the legion riders and it sits in the garage.

I took a trip to georgia on october 24, , and onsunday morning, october 26,when i started the spyder to leave, it began to stall at idle, it cut off repeatedly, and idled rough. It wouldn't maintain the normal idle range of 1200-1300 rpm. I finally was able to drive it off, and as i rode, the idle was rough for a few miles, but after i got it on the freeway, it seemed okay. Once again, the heat issue and fuel smellsbecame evident as i rode back to alabama, and the outside temperature rose. It seems that any outside temperatures above 70 degrees and the heat from the vehicle becomes worse with the resulting fuel smell and a lot of heat coming from the engine and fuel tank when going to fill up.i was a bit worried being so far from home, but i got back okay.

We have been waitingfor a recall fix that was informed by brp would be in may 2015. Through social media we were told by brpcarethat the fix was ready and supplied pictures. We havescheduledthe work but am not happy with the fix as it changes the appearance ofthe vehicle. When i called nhtsa i was informed that she could not find any information that this fix was approved.

The panels on the right hand side get excessively hot, to the point of burning my inner right thigh & right foot. The exhaust is too close to the panels and the panels and screws get hot to the point you cannot touch them without being burned. And cannot ride with your legs against the body.i have reported this issue to the dealer and was told this is "normal".

Vehicle gets extremely hot to the touch on the right side , blows very hot air onto right leg. Heat travels up to leg and under seat right where you sit on top of tank. Middle clove department to hot to touch as well tank underneath. Dealer took complain and wrapped pipes and installed heatshield which did not take care of problem and redirected the heat coming out on a different angle. Brp refuses to cooperate on any more solutions and fix the problem. I am concernd that the motor will over heat since the airflow at the engine has realy no escape.

Went for a ride had fuel smell when stop at light ,took a break at fast food place and smelled fuel again look on driveway saw fuel vapors , went home parks in garage ,later smelled fuel, had to open doorsand windows to let the smell out , this happen several times ,went to dealer to find out watt going on with the spyder they work on it 3 -4 times . This bin going back to dealerall summer long about the heat and smell they don't know what to do about it.

This is my 2nd report, i rode the spyder again yesterday and i burned my inner thighs and my right calf from the extreme heat coming from under the seat and a vent on the right side.the engine temperature is not showing it running hot. There is a design flaw thebody plastics not allowing proper venting for the heat.this is my second spyder, my first was a 2008 model and never had problems with the engine heat, i had 25,000 miles on it before i sold it and bought this pile of junk, i have left many e-mails on brp's website and have never gotten a reply,

Hot air from the radiator blowing on the right leg reaches 140 degrees fahrenheit at the ankle. The temperature was monitored using a digital thermometer with a remote readout. This temperature reading was repeated on subsequent tests.the heat makes the bike virtually unrideable during the summer without taking the risk of burns to the right leg.the manufacturer has refused to talk with me about this issue.

After buying my spyder i noticed excessive heat coming from the engine area under my seat. At times its so hot that i can barely touch my gas cap with is located under the seat. There have been a few time that after riding for a extended period and stopping the bike i've noticed the smell of gasoline. I've checked for fuel leaks and found none, and called the dealership to complain. They told me that it was probably the fuel tank over pressurizing because of the heat and venting to the air. I was advised to park the bike out side until it cooled down before bringing it into the garage. While riding the heat coming up from under the seat is really bad, making riding not much fun. I've called brp to complain about the problem but as of yet heard any thing back from them. I've read that several spyder's have caught fire, and still nothing has been done. My fellow spyder riders have all complained about the heat problem, other than that the bike is great. I just want brp to come up with a solution to the heat problem.

Excess heat coming from engine compartment created heat blisters on right calf. Also, an intermittent fuel smell that emanates from the engine compartment.

Vehicle gives off such a strong fuel odor after a ride, we now park the vehicle outside our enclosed garage for a few hours so the odor will not be overwhelming in our garage.also, the vehicle's fuel tank is very hot to the touch when re-filling with gas.vehicle was taken to an authorized bmp dealership about the strong fuel odor and they did not find anything wrong.

This vehicle has an extremely dangerous heat problem. Heat builds up under the fiberglass panels which results in the gas cap becoming too hot to touch with your bare hand, and gasoline boiling in the tank. Also, the radiator fan blows very hot air on my right foot which is very uncomfortable. Additionally, i can smell gas fumes when riding, and the fumes are overpowering when parking the bike after riding. I leave the bike outside my garage until the fumes dissipate, as i feel that it dangerous to park in the garage with the overpowering gas fumes. Brp and the dealers are aware of these problems, and can offer no fix for them. These problems have been addressed in the 2014 models, so obviously there is a way to remedy them. Whenever i am asked how i like the bike, i tell people that the gas mileage is horrendous, the heat problem is uncomfortable, and the gas fumes are unbearable and dangerous. I advise them not to buy this vehicle.

This vehicle runs extremely hot, and is uncomfortable to ride. After riding in 74 degree temperature for approximately 1 hour, i used a digital thermometer and measured the heat under the seat at 157.1 degrees with the engine off. Heat rises from the front and sides of the seat, which resulted in a burn to my right leg. There have been numerous instances of these vehicles with no warning suddenly catching fire and being completely destroyed. Brp is aware of the heat problems with these vehicles, and so far has only offered a software update in an effort to fix the problem. This update was unsuccessful. Additionally, gasoline boils in the tank, and the gas cap gets so hot that it cannot be removed without wearing a glove. My wife and i are afraid to take a long trip - which is the reason that we bought this very expensive touring motorcycle - for fear that our vehicle will burst into flames. Please expedite your current investigation into this matter, and please require brp to do whatever is necessary to solve this problem, perhaps a retrofit to change the cooling system to mirror the solution that brp developed (and touted in their promotional literature as "solving the heat problem) for the 2014 model i.e. Two radiators in the front of the vehicle rather than the one mounted in front of the rider's right foot. Please feel free to contact me if an investigator would like to view the vehicle firsthand.

I purchased my can-am spyder in august of 2013.the recall for the heat issues was completed in september of 2013 by my dealer.over the last year i have had incidents of a gas smell, sometimes very strong, and heat from the engine area.recently, a burning plastic smell has been occurring.it is noticed at different speeds.first incident was around 40 miles per hour on a 2 lane road, next time was going down a fairly steep hill around 30 miles per hour, and the third incident was on a 50 mile per hour 2 lane road.these incidents were on different days.the burning plastic smell was also noticed by my riding partner behind me.i am very concerned with the fires that have occurred with these machines and the investigation being done by nhtsa.i have brought the spyder rt to my dealer but they said they did not see any issues that could be causing the burning plastic smell.

Vehicle is a fire hazard and produces hot air from the engine onto the right leg that is intense enough to cause burns. Also heat from under the seat where the gas tank is located is unbearable. Gas fumes are emitted from the bike while riding and when the cycle is turned off the gas fumes are so intense that it seems unsafe to park in a garage for fear of fire.this is a tragedy waiting to happen.can am needs to be required to find a solution to these problems for the safety of the riders and the general public.

Excessive heat coming from under seat causing redness of legs where touching seat & glove box gets hot to touch.

I have had the2013 spyder rtssince 6-24-2014. Ever since getting it there has been excessive heat coming from the bike, especially on the right side where the radiator exhaust is vented. The bike gets extremely hot whether sitting still or moving.i have done modification in an effort to reduce the heat, as suggested on spyderlovers.com by other spyder owners. The measures haven't really helped and the bike is still way to hot!

Motorcycle has excessive heat under body panels causing fuel to boil in fuel tank, gas cap hot to the touch, fuel tank filler neck and surrounding body panels excessively hot to the touch.

The bike has a very bad heat problem. The temps on my right foot are very high and i smell gas when i come to a stop and shut it down. I replaced the front shocks due to the bike doing a nose dive, and the front ball joints also had to be recalled because they were bad. My bike is going into the dealer on tuesday the 15th of october for a complete work over to see why all the heat is there. Can am aka. Brp knows of the problem and can't seem to fix it. A couple of bikes have caught fire and there is a heat recall where the brake master cylinders are melting and their fix for this is a heat tape on them. The new bikes that have come out for 2014 addresses all these problems and seem like they knew of all our problems and fixed them in the newer bike. I even tried to trade the bike in and the dealers don't want them, so we the owners of the 2013 rt's are stuck with a bad bike. Is you go to a site called spyderlovers.com you will see that brp even posted a post on how the owners feel and to send them our thought of the bikes. They know the bikes have a problem but don't have a solution for it. So we just keep going back to the dealers and they just shake their heads and run test's to no avail . Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

From the day i bought my spyder, i've had issues with extreme heat atthe lower right and in the area ahead of the seat. I've had numerousincidents of fumes after parking, dripping fuel, and fuel boiling withthe gas cap heated to the point that i could only open it whilewearing gloves. During one of my first times refueling whileloosening the gas cap my hands were washed with fuel that wasexpelled under pressure, soaking my gloves. Afterward i was carefulto open the cap slowly (like a coke can under pressure) to relieve thebuilt up pressure in the gas tank. Heat on my foot was so bad thati've gone through many pairs of boots and wore fire/heat resistantsocks to mitigate discomfort. I had the ecm softwareupdate/fuse box sealing warranty campaign [2013-9] done on my bike atthe malcolm smith motorsports dealership. I continued to have heatissues. After it became apparent that there wasn't a solution to myheat problem, i had the exhaust wrapped and insulation installed. This hadlittle to no effect on reducing heat. On saturday (july 26, 2014) i left my home at 5:50 pm to ride.the temperature was about 95 degrees. Once again, i noticed heat whileriding. At about 6:20 pm, traveling at a cruise-controlled 60 mph onamboy road in the mojave desert, i smelled hot or burning plastic andthen i observed in my rear view mirror smoke coming from the rear ofmy spyder. As i began to slow, i also noticed smoke coming from thearea just ahead of the seat. Thinking it was either an electricalproblem or melting bodywork, i pulled to the side of the road, stoppedand hit the kill engine switch. After getting off the bike, i openedthe seat. Instantly there was a ?whooshing? sound and the bike wasengulfed in flames. I ran across the road, called 911, and while waiting for the fire crew i took pictures and video of my burning spyder.

I bought my 2013 can am spyder rt new in feb 2014.over the year that i have owned the bike, i have noticed excessive heat under the seat along with a gas smell.i had talked with vendor on several occasions and heard various other explanations.i did not give it too much thought until i read the forums and saw this was a common severe issue.until recently the can am was kept in an open air carport, so i never noticed the odor after a ride.i had experienced gas fumes and smells on rides and just didn't think it was a deal when the vendor kept telling me not to over fill the tank.i don't over fill the tank and stop after the first click which then causes the tank not to become full and having to stop more often to refuel on long rides.when we moved into our new house we now have a two car garage and after the last few rides, i gas up before coming home and notice a strong gas odor and leave the garage door open for an hour or until the fumes dissipate.now reading of the major heat and fume issues is extremely scary to me and causes some concern if the manufacture new of this issue when the unit was sold to me in feb 2014.i will have to pay attention the next time on a ride and see if the gas is boiling as reported on other units. I have read on the forums and facebook a recall is pending to resolve the heat issue which hopefully will resolve the gas fume issue as well.

Vehicle is extremely hot. Right foot gets unbearable heat. Gas fumes present at every stop. Gas fumes fill garage when bike is hot and parked. Can am refuses to discuss the danger of gas fumes which are extremely dangerous in a closed environment.this safety issue must be addressed as individual owners are powerless to get can am to respond to this dangerous situation. Please help

There is excessive heat on the right foot and lower leg at all speeds to the extent that one has to put their foot on the passenger footboard to keep the discomfort at a tolerable level.there is also excessive heat coming from the front and sides of the seat also to the point of discomfort.after riding for a short time (well less than 30 minutes) if the seat is raised, one cannot touch any surface under the seat for fear of being burned.

Brp canada has issued a recall on all canadian spyder rt's for heat related melting of the secondary master cylinder plastic top which could cause fire. I just returned from a 200 mile trip today on my 2013 can-am spyder rt-limited and heard about the canadian recall.i had first degree burns on my thigh, and my wife received a first degree burn on her right ankle due to the excess heat under the seat area. I have complained to the dealer that there was a heat issues . Ihad to use a glove to remove the gas cap as it will burn your fingers after riding for any distance. You can also hear the gas boiling in the tank when refueling.please do a recall on these can-am spyders. Brp says it is up to nhtsa to do the recall. The dealer will not cover this under warranty at this time. I was told not to ride or ride at own risk. I have heard of several can-am spyders erupting into flames for unknown reasons.

I found that after driving my motorcycle the seat is very hot and the gas cap is too hot to touch. I also have noticed excessive heat on my right leg that gets very uncomfortable with proper riding gear.the bike has had no modification done to it. I love riding it but it makes very hard on hot days.

After riding this motorcycle for as little as 15 minutes in weather above 70 degrees f. (in warmer weather the condition occurs more quickly and more severely) the location on the right side of the bike where your leg is positioned becomes unbearably hot.in warmer weather 80 degrees f. Or more it actually becomes painful to bare skin.it becomes so hot you must move your leg away and into the wind to provide some relief.this forces you to take your foot off of the footrest and away from the brake pedal.also, after riding the bike as stated above and stopping for traffic or to stop and get off you can clearly smell gasoline vapors.with the panels removed i observed that the catalytic converter is located directly under the fuel tank.the heat from this component appears to be heating up the fuel tank and creating the fuel vapors you smell near the bike.to refuel the bike you must lift the seat to access the fuel cap, after riding in the conditions stated above this fuel cap also becomes very, very hot to the touch.again, all of these conditions are more pronounced the warmer the weather.i believe both these conditions described above are a danger to the consumer. The first condition could cause skin irritation or possibly even a slight burn to the skin.it could also cause a delay in reaching the brake pedal with heat causing you to move your leg from the vicinity of the brake.the second condition has the potential to cause a fire.both these conditions seem to relate to one root cause, too much heat under the body panels and no place for it to go.the proximity of the catalytic converter to the fuel tank is also a major contributor to these conditions.both of these conditions have the potential to cause bodily harm and property damage.

This is my third complaint regarding this vehicle. In addition to the severe heat and gasoline odor problems which i described in earlier complaints, the vehicle has become very hard to start when the engine is warm. Normal idle rpm is 1,300 to 1,400. When this condition occurs - as it has on multiple occasions - the rpm does not exceed 500, and there is limited throttle response. The engine stalls, and there is an overpowering odor of gasoline emanating from the vehicle as if the throttle body is being flooded with gasoline. The dealer and brp (bombardier recreational products) have been made aware of this problem. Brphas proposed that my dealer replace the purge valve and oxygen sensor to address this problem, as well as the previously mentioned heat problem. I am waiting for the dealer to obtain the repair parts. I was told by a representative from brp that if these repairs did not fix the problems, there would be nothing more that they could do to address them. I, as well as many others, believe that there are may design flaws with this vehicle. The frame for the 2013 rt was intended to have a new engine, a 1330 cc inline three cylinder rather than the 998 cc v-twin. The brp representative admitted to me that the new engine for this vehicle "was not ready" at the time of production of the 2013 model, and they were forced to use the older engine. This engine runs very hot, and being fully enclosed by plastic panels exacerbates the problem. It is infuriating to spend $27,000.00 on a vehicle whose problems are not being proactively addressed by brp. The dealer that i purchased the vehicle from was aware of these problems, yet made no mention of them at the time of the sale. I urge nhtsa to compel brp to recall these vehicles, address these problems, and find a comprehensive solution to them.

Purchased demo the end of september 2013. Limited riding before put away for the winter.starting in the spring i started noticing a strong gasoline smell and extreme excessive heat. Fuel cap is extremely hotand gas is boiling which make filling hard as nozzle keeps shutting off. This is occurring in ambient temperatures as low 53 degrees.the recall and all service bulletins have been completed and the fuel canister has been replaced in september 2014. Within 200 miles, the gas smell returned and is noticeable by my husband riding behind me at 15 mph. When stopped in traffic the smell is overwhelming. The extreme heat continues and i to wear extra protection on my legs. I have kept our dealer advised of the heat issues.

I drove the newly purchased spyder rts from the dealership and parked the vehicle in the garage.after turning off the engine, i heard what sounded like boiling sounds coming from the gas tank area.within minutes, the garage was filled with gasoline fumes.it was so overwhelming, i had open the garage door and left it open for at least 2 hours.this is now happening every time after the vehicle is ridden.it appears to be very likely that the boiling sounds and fumes are also occurring while the vehicle is in motion.

Raw fuel smell after trike warms up and comes to a stop.right leg and foot alos becomes hot while riding.gas cap hot when removing to fill up.was told by dealer that there is nothing they can do and is a very common complaint.the warmer it gets the worse the raw feul odor, and heat build up gets. Dealer claims that the gas actually boils in the fuel tank and vaporize.they also said thatthere is no fix for this currently. I was in contact with the manufacture (brp) and they issued me a case number for reference while denying any complaints about this.my fear is the trike catching fire, as my research has found this to happen.i usually have a passenger with me and i fear should a fire occur my passenger won't have enough time to get away.this also includes myself getting away.search syderlovers.com and you will see many posts on this issue.i feel that the nhtsa needs to step in and take a serious look into this problem and make brp address this before someone gets killed due to shear ignorance. B

I have had the previous recall done and the bike is still dripping gas in my garage from the evap overflow line on the right side. This has been going on for months and there are many reports of this happening even after the recall insulation. It is a fire hazard.

After parking in the garage i am getting a very strong gas smell throughout the whole garage and honestly i am afraid to any longer park it in the garage. When i removedthe gas cap from the tank after riding on a 90 degree day the gas was boiling inside the tank.i received a recall notice from can am on sept 4 3013 about the master cylinder may melt from excess heat generated under the body panels. I called them and asked about the boiling gas and they said this was common and there was no recall or service bulletin for that issue. I am now very concerned about this machine catching fire or exploding because of the boiling gas issue.

I have the 2013 spyder rtl since 11-23-2013. Ever since getting it there has been excessive heat coming from the bike, especially on the right side where the radiator exhaust is vented. The bike gets extremely hot whether sitting still or moving.very uncomfortable on the right leg and ankle.under the seat and the center storage area gets extremely hot after riding.i feel this is very dangerous to the rider.

Everytime the vehicle is refueled there is lot of fuel smell. It is so bad that i am afraid to close the garage door, for fear of an explosion.

Excessive heat!! on right side & coming up from under seat & panels. Boiling gas & gas smell.

Fuel will leak out of evap canister due to high heat condition in engine compartment. Rear air bag leaks down and affects handling, dealer says they all do it.

During the spring, summer, fall = i.e.warm / hot days / months there is an incredible amount of heat [ 100 + degrees] coming from the engine compartment. This motorcycle has the front , both sides , and rearpanels that encase the motorcycle.air comes in from the front then goes around the engine with no place for the hot air to go except up and outwhich heats up the side panels and up through the center which heats up the gas tank. At times when stop to refuel; when you remove the gas cap you can feel the heat coming from inside the gas tank. This heat deal is extremely excessive and can burn your feet, ankles, and legs. If you've had ankle replacement [metal alloy]this heat is unbearable. Been in contact with brp on this and seem to be getting the run- around. Tryke is at my dealer waiting for this problem to be solved. Unsafe. Understand brp has known about this the last year and a half. Can you help. This is too nice a vehicle to have sitting at the dealer collecting dust. Can you help.

During a trip in september of 2013 to upstate ny, the bike started to give off a strong smell of gas & melting plastic.the bike went into limp mode so i pulled into a near by gas station in order to get off the road.i let the bike sit for about 15 to 20 minutes so it would reset.when i started the bike up again in remained in limp mode.i contacted the nearest local dealer and rode the bike to them for service.upon inspection the technician discovered that the lower right hand body panel was damaged due to excessive heat in addition the fuel evaporator canister had melted and had developed noticeable hole.

Since the purchase of my spyder there have been several occasions where the fuel is boiling in the fuel tank and very strong smell of gas comes from the cycle. The fumes are so strong that i feel it is unsafe to park it in my garage until the fumes go away. I leave the cycle on the driveway away from the house on the off chance something ignites the fumes. Typically, i have to leave the cycle outside for a coupleof hours to totally clear. The evap canister that should control these fumes isn't doing the job.

Purchased my 2013 can-am spyder on 03/05/14, in springfield, mi. My home address is new iberia, la. I drove the bike back home.my first fuel stop i was overwhelmed by the strong smell of gasoline and i can smell gas fumes every time i fuel up. At every fueling i have to use gloves or a rag to put over the gas cap to unscrew it because it is so hot. Then when i try to unscrew the cap it just ratchets with out unscrewing it. I have spent at least 30 to 45 minutes trying to unscrew the cap and after tank cools off the gas cap releases, then you can fuel up. On several occasions i have had to pry the gas cap with a screw driver to remove it and then you can hear the fuel boiling in the tank. I had 3 gas caps from another recall and tried all 3 caps and they did the same thing, just ratchet and not unscrew.while traveling i was in pensacola, fl and could not remove the gas cap and went to the dealership there and they replaced the gas cap after it cooled off.the next day i had to re-fuel and the cap they just put on would not unscrew. Thursday october 30, 2014, i had to refuel and could not open the fuel tank and had to pry it open with a screw driver to put fuel to get home.while doing so the cap was so tight that the top portion broke off leaving the bottom portion in the fuel tank neck. It gets so hot my right foot actually burns from the engine heat. When i want to crank the bike after fueling the bike does not want to crank. It spins the engine for a long time before it cranks and then it runs so bad, missing etc., and dies out 2 or 3 times before i can travel. Then when i get to places i have to stop the bike engine dies out while coasting or taking off, leaving you in an intersection with no power. I asked the dealership tech in pensacola what caused that and he advised can-am hasn'tfigured out why that happens just yet.

I was traveling in stop and go traffic when the spyder started producing excess heat from under the machine and around the gas tank. I stopped at a gas station to fill the tank as it had about an 1/8 of a tank. The gas cap was so hot it couldn't be touched for ten minutes. You could hear the gas boiling in the tank. Upon getting the cap off, it took several minutes to pump gas into the tank as the nozzle kept shutting off. The outside temperature was 83 degrees. It was giving off a very strong gas smell. I returned to my dealer and expressed my concerns and they said they would contact brp. The dealer has wrapped the header pipes and replaced the evaporator canister and purge valve many times. At this time my spyder has 22500 miles and the gas cap can't be tightened completely because it won't unscrew if the spyder is warm. I am still having all these problems with my spyder and brp hasn't been able to find a solution.

On 26 march 2015 i rode home after work of approximately 30 miles.the outside air temperature this day was approximately 85 degrees as a high that day.upon arriving home, i left my 2013 can am spyder rt se-5 out side the garage as directed by the interim recall notice.i got off my spyder and noticed a strange sound coming from under the seat.i removed my helmet and lifted the seat.the sound was coming from the gas tank.i removed the gas cap and could see gas boiling in the tank.i have noticed strong gas smells and reported that early, but never have i had gas boiling in the tank.i put the gas cap back on and put my helmet in the garage.i reopened the gas cap it was still boiling and was going to film this, but was fearful something might happen.i contacted my dealer who returned my call the next day.he related they had experienced that before during the summer months.they said it was still safe to ride and take the appropriate precautions and we would have to see how the recall design dissipates the heat. I contacted a second dealer who related they contacted brp and no one has reported or dealt with issues like this?they recommended i transport the unit to them approximately 3 hours away.i called a third dealer and was advised of the pending recall.boiling gas is scary in my book, since when you are riding the spyder you are riding virtually on top of the gas tank.this is a bit discouraging for the amount of money to purchase this unit.

2013 spyder rt limited has boiling gas issues. Fuel cap is very hot to touch when stopping to fill up. You can hear the gas boiling when you remove the gas cap. Had the bike in for it's 600 mile oil change and check up. We are not overfilling the gas tank when we fill up. Once the pump cuts off that is all the tank gets. Dealer said nothing was out of the ordinary. Since the weather has started to warm up you can feel the heat on the right side around the foot. Temp has started to kick up quiet high and we are not even in the hot months yet. Passenger can feel the heat as well. Heat is also on pretty warm on the seat as well. Again dealer says that is normal. I totally disagree and wonder what the long term effects are going to be on the bike as far as parts and wiring. Gas smell after running on warmer days has produced the smell of gas as well. I had the latest updates completed as well while in the shop. While the bike is smoother, i don't think it solved any of the heat issues or boiling gas issue. Hard to believe that brp has not offered more of a solution for a well known and documented problem and they have know about this issue for some time. If it wasn't a problem then why would have they corrected it on the 2014 and redesigned what is under the body?they moved the evap canister and moved the radiator up front and split it into two radiators and added reverse fans to help get rid of the heat produced by the engine. Yes, they know there is a problem with the heat and 2013's. They cannot deny it.

When stopping at an intersection, i can smell gas fumes.i suspect gas boiling in gas tank, as this has been reported in past with this motorcycle.plus, whenever parking in the garage i have to leave to garage door open for at least a half an hour for the gas fumes to clear out.

Motorcycle has excessive heat under body panels causing fuel to boil in fuel tank, gas cap hot to the touch, fuel tank filler neck and surrounding body panels excessively hot to the touch.

The contact owns a 2013 can-am spyder rt motorcycle. The contact could smell fuel when the vehicle was hot. The contact stated that the storage compartment and the seat would become very hot. The dealer stated that the vehicle was within specifications. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 13v386000 (service brakes, hydraulic), but did not confirm if the vehicle was included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 800.

There is extreme heat under the seat. I have received 1st degree burns on my right ankle and right thigh.the gas cap gets so hot one must use gloves to remove the gas cap when purchasing fuel. I can hear the gas boiling or bubbling in the tank after riding for short periods of time.the raw gas smell is so strong when parking in the garage it makes ones eyes burn. I had the local fire department check the gas vapor concentration in the garage after riding and found it was close to being strong enough concentration to cause a explosive situation if the right spark was introduced, was cautionednot park in the garage until the unit cooled off, by the fire department.there is a serious health issue involved also, was advised by a urologist that continued exposure to high heat on the male genitalia, could product male reproductive issues as well as male performance problems was told to refrain from riding the brp can-am spyder for periods over an hour at a time to avoid exposer to harmful high heat.i have had all the re-call, and recommended service done. The dealer has contacted brp and there is no solution offered. I have contacted brp and been given the run-a-round, and told to go to the dealer, dealer is at a loss on what to do. I was told by the brp tech. Department to keep the engine rpm above 5000 which i have done, which is near impossible in city traffic, this made no difference in the extreme heat.brp is well aware of the problem but appears that they are going to wait to take corrective action until there is a garage explosion, serious injury, or death to take any corrective action. The nhtsa need to take action and not wait to let this turn into another gm mess where people are hurt or die due to no action.

This is my 3rd spyder.although i am happy with it, it does emit heat in which sometimes on hot summer and humid days is not an acceptable feeling.this model year emits more heat than previous year models.

I purchased a can am spyder rt 2013 on august 23, 2013. From day one i've had excessive fuel smells after rides, also gas boiling in fuel tank after rides. You can actually hear and see the gas boiling in the tank. There is excessive heat coming out from around the glove box area and also around the passenger right foot rest. Needless to say all this heat makes for an extremely uncomfortable ride. I have had all recalls and updates done to date. September 2013 told my dealer of excessive fuel smells while the bike was in having the heat shielding recall work performed. He said that he did not smell the fuel coming from the bike. I went back a week later to have work done to the air ride suspension that was broken upon receiving my new bike. While he was working on the bike repairing the air ride suspension he noticed the smell and replaced my evap.canister. This was after i had the recall done. He had to remove the recall work and replace my evap canister and then reinstall the recall wrapping. Today october 28, 2014 went for a ride fueled up on the way home.i rode home approximately 20 minutes. When i parked the bike i could hear the fuel boiling and could see it in the tank. Obviously all the updates and recalls are not helping. I also had handling issues with the bike from brand-new. That i had to have corrected with my own money spent.

My return from a spyder gathering was about 100 miles total, including some stop and go traffic thru seattle, air temperatures in the low 80s (f), and completed with about 40 miles of open highway cruising at 50-60mph and air temps in the high 70s. During this entire ride, i struggled to find a position in which i could place my right boot where it was not unbearably hot! the spyder never showed any signs of overheating, but my boot sure did!!! i will add that i was riding in jeans, leather chaps, hiking boots and heavy socks. Positioning my boot in such a way as to try to cool it down some would place it concerning far from the brake pedal. I was forced to chose between some heat relief and safety. ?towards the end of my ride, i finally was stopped by a traffic light, at which point i smelled gasoline fumes very strong thru my full face helmet! i almost bailed off, being concerned that there was a risk of fire!i tried to look under the bike to see if fuel was leaking but the light turned green and i had traffic behind me. The fuel gauge at this point read a bit less than half a tank.i was home in my driveway in just another 5 minutes. My wife and my neighbor both came out to meet me and ask how my first long ride went. They both smelled the gasoline also. I opened the seat, which was also extremely hot underneath and allowed the spyder to cool down before parking it back in my garage.

The contact owns a 2013 can-am spyder rt. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v095000 (engine); however, the manufacturer's remedy was incomplete. The manufacturer stated that they would be replacing the body panel with new improved body panels and an upgraded fuel system kit. The contact received templates to use to cut out pieces of the body panel. The manufacturer stated that thiswas the only available repair for the issue. The failure mileage was unknown. .. .updated 07/21/15

Heat build up under body panels and seat at low and high speed, causing bodily discomfort, ryder and passenger, to the point of needing medication to the affected areas coming in contact with panels and seat. Gas cap hot-to-touch, building up pressure in tank and causing gas to blow out of filler when removing cap. Erratic gas fumes at any time.

After a four hour ride, i stopped at a gas station to refuel.when i was ready to leave, my parking brake cable would not release.i had to get under the machine and pull it free in order to ride home.it turned out the cable had melted, along with the master cylinder and the charcoal canister.all three were replaced during the recall.in march, while driving in heavy traffic on i-95 south of fredericksburg va, my machine stalled and i had to call for a tow truck.a rubber hose going to the throttle body had cracked.at numerous times i have received first degree burns on my inner thighs from heat, under the seat.i am concerned about what the heat that all the plastic and rubber parts have been exposed to, and what may fail, next.if a rubber fuel line cracks, it could be catastrophic.

Every time i ride the bike when it gets to operating tempsandi stop all i smellsraw fuel vapors good thing i don't smoke i am afraid it will blow up i cant put bike in garage when i get home because of the smell afraid my house will catch firewhat can be done about this deal says itsnormal.

Excess heat coming from engine compartment created heat blisters on right calf. Also, an intermittent fuel smell that emanates from the engine compartment.

I recently have been getting a strong odor of gas when i come home after a ride. The recent recall for the evap canister and brake cylinder has been done but i put a paper towel under the purge line to find it is dripping gas. This is all to common on this motorcycle and is a fire hazard both on and off the road in my garage. I have heard this is happening to a lot of spyder owners who say the solution is to park outside after a ride. Unacceptable.

Excessive heat!! on right side & coming up from under seat & panels. Boiling gas & gas smell.

High heat effecting the right foot and crotch. There is now a slight buckle on the bottom right side of the cover emitting additional heat at highway speeds.

See the attach nhtsa_complaint.pdf the vehicle was in motion.can am spyder serial/vin # [xxx], model # 000b9dc00.i have put that i was going 75 miles per hour, not sure of the number as this is a bike. My goal is to keep up with traffic.however the speed limit on the highway is 75 mph.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I found that after driving my motorcycle the seat is very hot and the gas cap is too hot to touch. I also have noticed excessive heat on my right leg that gets very uncomfortable with proper riding gear.the bike has had no modification done to it. I love riding it but it makes very hard on hot days.

While riding on the highway in motion, during a clear day on july 16 2016.the subject vehicle suffered a blown rear tire leaving a large center strip of blended steel and rubber shaped as a wide belt that extended past the rear of the bike. See the multiple photos attached in (exhibit p).while attempting to bring the bike to a safe halt to the side of the highway, the rotation of the wheel using the stated belt beat the plastic rear end of the vehicle to a total dismemberment of crucial parts. With the rear end of the vehicle being ripped away from the vehicle, the attached passenger's plastic seat mount was also destroyed. Finely as the vehicle was being brought down to a stop to the side of the highway, somehow with the vibration of the rotating blow tire and wheel, the right front wheel stabilizing cast iron mechanism broke dislodging the lower ball joint that stabilized the horizontal position of the right front wheel.see the multiple photos attached in (exhibit k).this sent the vehicle in a violent clock wise spin that finely overcame the rider's grip dislodging the seat and rider on to the side of the highway, and then finely coming to a complete stop facing the oncoming highway traffic.however, at no time did the vehicle hit any car, curb, water, ice, trash, or wall during the ride or dislodging of the rider.noor did it flip or turn over at any time, in fact the vehicle during its reduction in speed, as well as the clock wise spin ever leave the final lane that the rider was dislodged from the vehicle.please except this as a replacement and update of the removed complaint 11051430.

According to a safety recall notice, dated sept 4th 2013,that brp sent to it's dealers and distributors and is listed on this site, they were informed:1."do not sell or deliver any involved vehicle that you have in stock as federal law requires you to complete the recall service on these vehicles before delivery."2."contact all of your customers who have purchased an affected vehicle. You must inform them about the foregoing and must request them to make an appointment to get their vehicle repaired."approximately 6 days after said notice a dealer delivered our new spyder without completing said recall service and without ever mentioning it.sounds to me like a violation of federal law!

The contact owns a 2013 can-am spyder rt. While driving 70 mph, a brake warning light illuminated and the vehicle required a longer distance to stop. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and noticed brake fluid leaking beneath the vehicle. Fumes of smoke were seen beneath the seat. The vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 13v386000(service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to the dealer again where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder and brake fluid reservoir were melted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 10,000.

The contact owns a 2013 can-am spyder rt.the contact recently purchased the vehicle and discovered that it was included in nhtsa campaign number 13v386000 (service brakes, hydraulic).the manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was not repaired.the contact had not experienced a failure.

I found that after driving my motorcycle the seat is very hot and the gas cap is too hot to touch. I also have noticed excessive heat on my right leg that gets very uncomfortable with proper riding gear.the bike has had no modification done to it. I love riding it but it makes very hard on hot days.

Excessive heat coming from under seat causing redness of legs where touching seat & glove box gets hot to touch.

The contact owns a 2013 can-am spyder rt. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the body panel overheated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing where the heat shield was replaced.the failure recurred on multiple occasions. The contact sustained an injury due to the failure but did not require medical attention. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75.

As you clearly can see can am spyder 2013 has many complaints about heat i own one and this machine is quite dangerous i have installed temp gauges on my machine and have studied this issue thourougly ... I would invite an investigator to come visit and spend 30 minutes with me and my machine . You will see for yourself the proof ... You can feel the machine and monitor the gauges i have installed and make your own judgement. I think it will save a life. I truly believe this. The manufacturer is aware but my feeling is having conversation.... They really won't do much until forced. As we all know its about the money, lives seem secondary.

We purchased a brand-new 2013 can-am spyder rt from a dealer.from the date of purchase, the vehicle has had heat issues.my wife received minor burns to her leg as a result of the heat emitting from the plastic side panels.we have returned it to the dealer and theyinstalled some aluminum foil on double sided tape to try to cut down the heat.this had little effect.the dealer contacted brp and was told that they were aware of the problem and what others had done to mitigate it at their own expense.the bike is back in the shop and i've emailed brp customer care to see what they intend to do about it.

This is my 3rd spyder.although i am happy with it, it does emit heat in which sometimes on hot summer and humid days is not an acceptable feeling.this model year emits more heat than previous year models.

Fuel will leak out of evap canister due to high heat condition in engine compartment. Rear air bag leaks down and affects handling, dealer says they all do it.

We are paying for a motorcycle we cannot ride due to a recall and no one can seem to tell us when it will be fixed.recall letter states it will be resolved by may of 2015 - 2 days left in may and still not notified of how it will be fixed - we cannot ride this vehicle as it could catch on fire - we live in florida where temperatures are extremely hot - consequently, we have not been able to ride our motorcycle due to this recall - we contacted brp and they advised us not to ride the vehicle so we are making payments on something we cannot use or sell due to a recall - not a happy consumer!

Excessive heat!! on right side & coming up from under seat & panels. Boiling gas & gas smell.
