Immediately took to gm cadillac dealer.they were aware of the problem as they have corrected the problem in other cadillac's "several times".the turnsignal switch melted. The contact owns a 1997 cadillac seville.while driving 40 mph, the contact noticed a burning smell.the dealer stated that there were multiple coolant leaks inside the engine and they replaced four gaskets, a water pump, and hose; however, the failure continued.as of february 15, 2008, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle.the powertrain was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 57,813.

I was on the highway driving at 60 to 65 miles an hour, the distance before the malfunction began was approximately 5 miles before my brakes automatically were applied during a non braking application. The cadillac sts slowed down into a car that hit my rear bumper. I tried to recover from the bump. As an result, the momentum sent me into a rocky but grassy ditched area on the side of the highway. As a result of the ebtcm failing while driving on the highway, my bumper was damaged, front bumper was damaged, along with my steering and struts. I contacted gmabout the issue with this defective ebtcm and the remedy has been that a inspector will evaluate the car then next(....) i will be notified whether or not it will repaired. The car has been parked majority of the time since my incident. I'm waiting for the inspector to call and schedule an date to view vehicle. After the date of accident, i went to get a diagnosis of the damage from an authorized cadillac dealer and they told me i would have to start with the ebtcm and struts. In addition, they would need more time to diagnosis other issues.

On february 18, 2010 i had to call the fire department because my car had caught on fire. It had been sitting in the garage for 5 hrs after being driven.

I bought a used car with an extended warranty. A week later the fuel switch went out. I had to spend $80 to get that fixed at the same dealership. After a few weeks the turing switch started smoking so i took it to different dealership to get check out and they fixed it for $100 (co pay) while my car was being fixed they found a major oil leak and asked me if i would like to see if my warranty would fix it. The warrenty people came out and said no we are not going to pay the $1,500 -$2,500 to fix it. The car needs to go back to where you bought it so they can fix the car because the leak was preexisting . At that time i went and talked to one of the owners. He said he would look into it and advised me to go and let the service manager take a look at the car. Come to find out the used car lot knew about the leak and did not tell me at the time of sale otherwise i would not have bought the car . I was told by the service manager that the sales department may pay to get it fixed and they declined. I am now stuck with a $320.00 a month payment on a car that i can't drive very much until the leak is fixed . I would like to get my old car back that i traded in. I was told that i would be able to under the used car lemon law act. One more note i also need to get the steering colum repaired that would be another $210.00 and i work for the company i bought the car from.

I purchased a 1997 cadillac sts with all options. The car had just about everything go wrong with it, including it requiring a new engine. Many of the problems early on were under warranty, but later ones weren't. However, the most disturbing problem was the rear tail light assemblies. They do not seal properly and allow water to seep in. This causes corrosion of the bulb sockets and eventually causes a short that blows a fuse, extinguishing the tail lights. Obviously, this is a major safety concern and the driver has no way of knowing there is an impending failure. Cadillac customer service acknowledged to me on several occasions that there is no known cure other than replacement and that the problem exists on several years of that model. The replacement cost is $500 per set of tail lights and there is no guarantee it will last or how long it will last. On e of the methods people have used in an attempt to cure the alleviate the problem is to drill holes in the bottom of the lens to allow water to escape. When i last talked to the cadillac customer service, they would not allow me to talk to the avm (zone manager for this district), nor would they offer to work with me on replacing the tail light assemblies. I believe this is a critical safety issue that must be addressed by general motors, especially since the customer service readily admits it is a problem and there is no known cure other than replacement at the customers expense. Incidentally, the tail light assemblies were replaced once under warranty when i took the car in for a completely unrelated problem. So, that is evidence the problem was well known by both gm and the dealership network.*nlm

They should all be recorded by the cadillac dealer in conroe, texas and here in lexington ky. I believe that this car was a lemon when i bought it.

Crank problem now replaced by stalling after decelerating to near stop then doing a gentle tip in on accelerator as in making a turn or entering a traffic circle.

I have had extreme oil compsumption since i purchased the car from superior . It was used and still is under warrenty.i have had it back to them three times for this and they ran two different oil comsumpion tests.. One for 4000 miles which took 5 1/2 quarts oil and one 500 mile test that took 1 qrt.. Since then they have declined to tell me what the statis of the complaint to gm is..thanks.

Heads on 1997 cadillac seville (sls) pulled loose from engine letting antifreeze enter into the combustion chamber of all eight cylinders. Heads were warped and had to betaken off engine and milled to refit to engine block. This work done at local cadillac dealer (sam swope cadillac, service manager dave holland 502 499 5015) cost to repair engine $4,999.47........i have spoken to quite a few cadillac owners and service personnel and this is a constant problem with the cadillac northstar engine and all cadillac dealerships are well versed in repairing this engine defect........i have been told that if general motors had put steel insertsinto the aluminum block for the headbolts to tighten into at the factory that this problem would not repeatedly occur! from what i have been told gm was trying to save weight and improve fuel consumption and that is why they went to an aluminum block and heads.

1997 cadillac rear light housings is a defective design. These housings continually leak causing excessive moisture to be trapped. We had delivery on our sts on 10/09/96.these housing were replaced under warranty on 2/18/97 due to this problem. Again on 3/25/98, these housings were replaced under warranty due to same problem. The moisture problem continued and when presented to dealer on 09/07/01 for service, we were told that this was a normal condition and cadillac has washed its hands with no replacement. They have implied that this a defective design and can only be fixed by replacement, but at owner's cost. Now, this problem has continually got worse resulting in corrosion in light bulb sockets causing light failure.i am concerned that this moisture will eventually cause a electrical short resulting in a fire, etc. Or visibility concerns for on coming vehicles. Hit a speed bump - loud noise - could barely brake - avoid collision and after eventually being able to stop; looked under car and fluid gushing out like a rainstorm.call insurance company who stated it was a collision; however, repair shop and adjuster for insurance company stated it was bound to happen due to rusting and cracking of brake line, etc. And will not pay for repair - auto repair did send a paper showing a recall that was issued by nhtsa id: 04v110000 on june 2, 2004 dealing with fuel system and the fuel rail constructionwhich may degrade and crack.i informed not only the insurance adjuster and the repair shop, and i also called cadillac at l-8---458-8006, about this recall and since i never received a recall from cadillac, it would appear that this is an issue which should be addressed by them. In reference to open investigation pe03050. I have cadillac seville, sts, 1997. Had exactly the same problem as described -- strong fuel smell in the car -- whenchecked by the dealership -- there was a pin hole in the fuel rail -- i have seen it myself and it was scary. Logged the complaint with cadillac: [xxx] on 09/30/2003, but they were not willing to investigate any further at that time. Cadillac should recall all these vehicle as soon as possible because this is a significant fire hazard. Consumer called complaining aboutfuel injection system, injectors. Injectorswere made out of plastic, gas was leaking through them, and was falling right on top of the engine. While making a turn at 15 mph the anti-lock braking system engaged, causing the vehicle toskid. When it released consumer was able to drive thevehicle until the next time when consumerturned it off.

Driving 60mph w/cruise control on; brakes making noises on & off; smelled something burning. Got out vehicle & noticed brakes & hub cap on driver's side hot; steering vibrates all the time; cruise control went out. Took to dealer for repairs.

Dt: the contact states there is a nhtsa recall campaign97v064000 concerning the abs brakes.this vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall, but itis not included in the recall due to vin.the vehicle has not been repaired due to excessive cost.

While drivingconsumer pushed down on brakes and pedal went to floor.first warning was when brake light came on. Steel brake line was rubbingframe rail ,and fluidwas squirting out. Also, s when putting on brakes 5 to 10 seconds, pedalwent to floor.unable to contact dealer.

Dealership would not even look at the problem because it was past the 75000 warranty milage. The brake line had rubbed a hole in a rigged steel line by rubbing up against the frame of the car.the regional field rep. Did not even want to look at it.they were taking what the dealership was say about it that it was not a defect and no one ever looked at it !!!

Driving 60mph w/cruise control on; brakes making noises on & off; smelled something burning. Got out vehicle & noticed brakes & hub cap on driver's side hot; steering vibrates all the time; cruise control went out. Took to dealer for repairs.

Smoke and smell of electrical fire coming from steering column. Immediately took to gm cadillac dealer.they were aware of the problem as they have corrected the problem in other cadillac's "several times".the turnsignal switch melted. In my 1997 cadillac sts the steering gear went bad. During a left turn it will intermittently become harder to complete a left turn. Turning right is fine. Over 800000 gm cars were recalled in 1997 for this same problem however cadillac is not one of them. When i contacted gm they told me that there was nothing they could do. When in a vehicle i feel it is important to be able to predict the resistance of the steering wheel as it may pertain to my and others future safety.

Car would not steer to the left steering locked up on my wife after steering wheel was turn to the right.had to have car towed home.can not drive it.

Heater core exploded and the hot radiator fluid poured on my foot, causing me to lose control of the car. My injuries were bad burns to my foot and pulled muscles. I had the car repaired, where they told me that the heater core was a badly made product. Because it was part plastic, which cracked when they repaired it they put an entirely metal heater core as replacement. They also could not believe that it poured the hot water on the drivers side of the car, usually it goes on the passenger side.

When driving vehicle, the console area is hard to read.if there is a sunny day consumer cannot see at all. Cadillac manufacturer said to take vehicle to dealer to see what they could do.dealership cannot remedy this problem. Cadillac manufacturer wasaware of this problem.

Vehicle has developed a major leak that is pumping oil onto the exhaust system.nlmoil leak caused by a faulty rear main seal.engine was running rough due to faulty 02 sensor, fuel gauge reading erratically due to bad spot on sender.while driving and hitting a bump, there was a rattle under the vehicle, dealer replaced the right strut and mount.

When traveling at a high speed vehicle wobbles up and down.also, slides when hitting a bump.rear end goes up and down.

I bought a used car with an extended warranty. A week later the fuel switch went out. I had to spend $80 to get that fixed at the same dealership. After a few weeks the turing switch started smoking so i took it to different dealership to get check out and they fixed it for $100 (co pay) while my car was being fixed they found a major oil leak and asked me if i would like to see if my warranty would fix it. The warrenty people came out and said no we are not going to pay the $1,500 -$2,500 to fix it. The car needs to go back to where you bought it so they can fix the car because the leak was preexisting . At that time i went and talked to one of the owners. He said he would look into it and advised me to go and let the service manager take a look at the car. Come to find out the used car lot knew about the leak and did not tell me at the time of sale otherwise i would not have bought the car . I was told by the service manager that the sales department may pay to get it fixed and they declined. I am now stuck with a $320.00 a month payment on a car that i can't drive very much until the leak is fixed . I would like to get my old car back that i traded in. I was told that i would be able to under the used car lemon law act. One more note i also need to get the steering colum repaired that would be another $210.00 and i work for the company i bought the car from.

1. No injury, no crash,wife complained of breakpedal going to the floor as she backed out of the garage - i observed large amounts of break fluid in driveway.i instructed her to get out and shut it off- message center also warned of brake failure.2. Steel brake line chafed against the frame of '97 seville sts - factory installation/design with clearance too tight in the location where the line crosses over the frame to the terminal bracked at the rear wheel - wore through the brake line.i've owned the car since new and there was never a damage or a repair in the area where it wore through. This is obviously a very serious class defect as the location of the wear through is not in a service area of the car and there is no warning of an eminent failure.3.i used a hacksaw to cut out the worn portion of the break line and using compression fitting from the hardware store and a new brake line section from the auto parts store re-routed the line away from the frame that cut the original line.i have the worn line and digital photographs of it and the failure before removal. There needs to be a service recall inspection of all '97 sevilles to see if this is occuring on every or most models.the gromets and brackets that position this line are most likely common on all models up through '97.

Instrument panel can not be seen when weather is cloudy, the lighting can only be turned on by the sensor, the design does not allow consumer to adjust manually.

Dealer unable to determine cause of multiple failure including failure of wiper/washers.

The chromium is peeling off the inside of the original wheels and this caused an air leak and rapid tire deflation. This vehicle (97 cadillac saville) has a little over 70,000 miles. The tire dealer tells me that there is no way to remedy this problem and the wheels will have to be replaced.
