The window regulator on the rr window of my 2005 cadillac deville is defective.my window is down and won't come back up although the motor power is running to the window the regulator is broken.i have checked the complaints and noted that there are several complaints regarding defective window regulators on this model of deville which in 2002 through 2005.i called the dealer and they knew exactly what the problem was and said it would cost over $500.00 to replace.this is only one window.there is the possibility that this could occur three more times.i know several people with this model deville ( not this year) that have the same problem but can not afford to get the part replaced consequently they are driving around with no window in the back.i feel this is unsafe for children and pets. As well as dangerous for leaving your car out.i would appreciate if you would check into this.i think it has not been addressed because the complaints appear to be unrelated. However taken as a whole for all the years it is significant.i you look at the window regulators you will see the problem.i do not know how to get cadillac to address this problem.

Driving on a local freeway, my ignition switch to off. I was only going 55 mph in heavy traffice. I was able to place the car in neutral & restart the engine, but for a short period i was with limited braking and steering. Had my wife been driving i am certain the outcome would not have been as good.after this i took the car into the local cadillac dealer to have the ignition switch corrective recall complied with. They adjusted the size of the hole on my keys - this was the fix. However, changing the size of the key hole does nothing to prevent my ignition switch from "popping' to off. At the time of the failure mentioned, i had only a single key in place. I contacted cadillac about this and their reply has been that the recall only covers the key hole change & does nothing to address thefaulty ignition switch. Further, they indicatedthat i could have the ignition switch changed for $1090.00.

This northstar engine has leaked oil,(not burning it) since 40,000 miles. I use 2 or more quarts of oil between oil changes. It leaks whenever it is parked. Within the last two months, while driving at night on a somewhat crowded interstate, i found myself driving behind a newer model of cadillac with a new type of tail light/brake light (possibly leds). My following distance was about 30 feet at times.this new type of light proved to be very distracting -- not because of its novelty but because of a "streaking" optical effect created by the lights. I have excellent night vision and use glasses when i drive. I never have light-associated vision problems when driving. But the effect created by these cadillac tail lights/brake lights proved so distracting that i was unable to drive in a normal manner. When i would look at the tail lights and then look away (to watch other cars, check mirrors, etc.), several very bright red streaks or blurs of light would "emerge" from the cadillac tail lights and follow within my field of view. This same distracting streak/blur effect would occur with even the smallest movement of my eyes -- as i looked from cadillac tail light to cadillac trunk, for example.the effect proved so distracting that i could not look at the cadillac ahead for a while and had to let the car move very far ahead of me before i could return to normal driving, eventually managing to change lanes and keep my distance from the cadillac.i bring this matter to your attention because i consider these tail lights to be a potential and serious driving hazard. The streaking effect caused by these new types of lights can confuse and distract drivers. The streak effect, for example, might prompt a driver to imagine seeing a light where there is, in fact, no light -- perhaps causing the driver to brake suddenly and unnecessarily. Or, perhaps more likely, the annoying streak effect could force some drivers to adopt less-then-safe driving measures to avoid looking at the lights. In either case, these lights are distracting and potentially hazardous. I urge you to investigate this matter as a safety issue.thank you.

When trying to make a turn on wet roadway (not a puddle of water) or trying to turn at a light for instance while it is raining, even at alow rate of speed, the power steering locks and the car will not continue to turn, causing traffic behind you to come to a screeching halt.after stopping the steering will slowly loosens up allowing you to complete the turn. I have had it checked out with my repair garage but they couldn't find anything. Since i am aware of this happening i'm very careful when making a turn in the rain. I'm thankful i wasn't on the interstate doing 60.

This northstar engine has leaked oil,(not burning it) since 40,000 miles. I use 2 or more quarts of oil between oil changes. It leaks whenever it is parked. I have spent monies on this, but it appears a major engine repair is needed. Some say, the bolts were too short, and others say, this defect continued until the 2006 year.

I have a 2005 cadillac deville i purchased it used with 48,000 miles i have had it about three years and the leather seats are horrible. They are not comfortable for long distant riding. I had a 1994 deville and there is no comparison.

On september 30, 2014, i was driving down the highway in my 2005 cadillac deville at the speed of 65 mph.i exit on to an exit ramp and stopped at a stop light.while at the light my brake pedal went to the floor.i tried pumping the brakes but the peddle kept going to the floor.i then realized i lost my breaks.the repair shop that repaired my brakes stated that the brake line going to the rear brakes rusted out in the middle of the car, which caused my brake failure.this repair cost me $572.66 to run 2 new brake lines from the front of the car to the rear brakes.i was very lucky that the brakes failed while i was stopped and not trying to stop at 65 mph.i have an 84 chevy, a 98 buick and a 2002 chevy and the only thing i ever did to the brakes was to replace them when they wore out.i am very interested in your explanation of why the brake line rusted out.

My2005 cadillac deville loose steering power when turning for about 20 second to 1 minute about 20 times in 3 years. This happens during the first couple miles of driving.cad dealer can not confirm problem as it is erratic and only happens once in a while. I noticed that this usually happened when the weather is high humidityand i parked the car outside at night or during rainy day.

While pulling into a parking space in front of a store car i went through a puddle of water.the steering immediately froze and the belt began to squeal.the steering came back within 10 seconds but for the ten seconds i could not steer the car.this is about the 10th time this has happened.i keep going to the dealership, they put on belt dressing but it does not help.something needs to be done since this seems to be a common occurrence with the 2005 deville.

During heavy rain or driving through water the steering completely goes out. Scared the living daylights out of me today....almost hit by a log truck while turning left into my neighborhood. Oct 2011 i took to dealer and they said that they have had other such complaints, but no recalls have been issued on this problem and they didn't know how to fix the problem. Does someone have to be killed before this problem is addressed? i saw the same thing happen a year or so ago to an elderly lady turning into our neigbborhood in her cadillac deville...she just stopped in the middle of a busy 2 lane road...luckily several people were at the intersection waiting to turn out of the neighborhood and were able to start the car and push it to safety. I didn't think anything about it at the time until the same thing happened to me...and i remember that the day it happened to my neighbor it was also raining.this is a major problem with an accident waiting to happen. Something should be done by gm about this before someone is killed! now i never drive my car when it's raining and if it happens to rain while i'm out my nerves are completely shot! i'd like to get rid of the car, but i could not in good conscience pass this vehicle onto another person knowing what i know about the steering issue.

Vehicle cuts off at random times while in motion.the car ignition cuts off all power to the engine and power steering when the car hits a bump, railroad track, or pothole.bumping the column cover will also cut off the engine, and the power steering.the vehicle has had the key modification which would appear to have no affect on the problem of the ignition randomly rotating out of the on position.

The contact owns a 2005 cadillac deville. While driving various speeds during inclement weather, extreme force was required when making a right turn. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

In the past month power steering has failed in wet weather 7-8 times. To date this has happened when turning off city streets, but i am terrified that this will happen on the interstate and i will be unable to control the car. The steering re-engages when the ignition is turned off and back on. It also re-engages after several seconds if the ignition remains on.we bought the car new and this problem just started happening, but now happens everytime it has rained.i contacted cadillac and they have no information or recalls despite what i found (on an internet search) to be a problem others have experienced on this model for years 2003-2005. Does someone have to be killed before this is addressed? i transport my young grandchildren daily in what was supposed to be a large "safe" car. This is a very dangerous situation. Basically, i feel that we can no longer safely drive this car in wet weather and we live in florida where we can't always predict if and when it will rain.

I bought this car used and have only had it a few weeks but about five times now i have had the power steering quit when driving in the rain. It returns in seconds but i am disabled and it is very difficult for me to control the car. Luckily, this has only happened at low speeds. I'm afraid of being killed. I have since read that this is a well known problem. In all seriousness, do folks have to die before gm fixes the problem?

Steering will lock up when driving through standing water. Unable to steer right or left, can only steer straight ahead for approximately 10 seconds. Then steering will return to normal. This happens any time vehicle is driven through standing water at any speed.

I backed out of my driveway, shifted to drive, began driving on my street and the wheel came off and the car hit the ground.the drivers side ball joint broke.had i been on the freeway, this would have caused a multi-car accident with injury and or death to many people.oem ball joints, especially on an expensive car like a cadillac deville, should have a lifetime or the same life expectancy as the other major components, including the frame.it is an engineering defect (inferior metal strength and quality) for a ball joint on a cadillac to "break" for no reason.it should be forbidden and punitive for a balljoint on a cadillac to break before 300,000 miles.why should consumers be forced to play russian roulette with their lives????a good quality product that is permanently lubed as in the cadillac line, should be reliable for the life of the vehicle.anything else is the same as attempted murder and should be forbidden or punished.the public must be protected from this type of suicidal journey in a reasonably new vehicle that has been maintained.

Driving in rain and power steering froze up for about 10 seconds. This has happened a few times. You need to look into this safety issue.

Intermittent -has happening more than a dozen times over the years- while negotiating a turn when the weather is wet (raining or shortly after rainstorm) the power steering freezes up for several seconds. Extremely frightening experience. Panic sets in if on the road (as opposed to a parking lot) because one becomes powerless to avoid oncoming danger and fearful that stalled position of vehicle (1/2 way through a turn) may cause accident for others. Want to know cause!!! want to know remedy!!!

When you drive thru a puddle of water the power steering stops working. After a few minutes it works like normal. This has happened numerous times.

The contact owns a 2005 cadillac deville.when the contact drove into an area with water puddles, the power steering locked up.he immediately applied the brakes and safely drove to his destination.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that water was getting onto the serpentine belt and causing the failure.the contact was informed that there was no current remedy to repair the failure.he stated that any time there is wet weather conditions and the serpentine belt gets wet, the power steering will fail.the manufacturer advised him to call nhtsa and file a complaint.the failure mileage was 32,000 and current mileage was 40,000.updated 5/5/09 updated 05/06/09.

I was driving home after a driving rain. The car made a screeching sound for several seconds and then the steering wheel froze while i attempted to turn right. This has happened multiple times. Therefore i do not drive in the rain. Also the problem persists even after the power steering pump has been replaced secondary to a leak.

I had driven the car and parked it outside. When i went to drive the car approximately two hours later, i lost power steering for a few seconds when turning the corner. This failure has occurredseptember 2009, january 2010, march 2010 and may 2010 when i have notified the dealership service department.the cadillac dealership replaced a pulley on the right side in march 2010 and we still have this issue.it happens inadvertently and it seems like after we had rain.the cadillac is garage kept.updated 06/29/10

Temporary loss of power steering when driving through standing water puddles. Nearly impossible to steer for about 10 seconds, then returns to normal. Dealer can not duplicate. Reports splash shield intact, drive belt is not degraded and has proper tension to power steering pump. But problem still exists and is a potential safety hazard.

After purchasing the vehicle from thedetroit location of don massey cadillac on june 9 2009.there wasa very bad rain storm that weekend.i was driving and noticed the rain coming into the vehicle by the left side of the dash board dripping from the roof.after taking it back several times to don massey they indicated to me that it was some sort of plug in the sunroof that was getting clogged up.they fixed it but every time it has rained for the last 5 years rain has continued to come in the car and now its coming next to my left foot. The detroit location of don massey closed later that year and i have not taken the vehicle in to another one (not sure where to really).now i'm reduced to putting a plastic bag over the sunroof when i know rain is predicted (which is extremely tacky on a cadillac) ;-(not sure if other 2005 cadillac owners have this issue, but it is truly a pain in my "roof" .

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's door will not stay opened while parked on an incline.the contact is handicapped and must prop one foot on the door panel for the door to stay open while exiting the vehicle.this happens every time the vehicle is parked on an incline or when there is a strong wind blowing.the manufacturer has been contacted which determined this is the way the vehicle is designed.

The driver side mirror changes position, pointing down to the ground, erratically, usually when entering or leaving the car, or inserting the key, even though i am always using driver #1 key. I can reset it, use the memory button to save the position. It may work for several stops during a shopping trip, then change again on it's own. It is a safety hazard because when i want to change lanes i look at the mirror and it is pointed to the ground. The dealer where i always take my car for service, has not been able to determine the problem.

I have seen a lot of vehicle this make and model the back windows stop working mine are not working i also see a lot of cars this model with the back windows taped up could you help please with this matter. Thank you
