Gm will be sending out an inspector to determine cause of brake failure.i do not know whatbrakecomponent failed.whether it was master cylinder, abs, vacuumbooster, etc.i only know there was failure.i was traveling at a speed of 15-20 mph withplenty of space to stop in response to 2 separate accidents that happened just in front of me.i applied the brake and when i got no response i pressed the petalwith extreme pressureandthe pedal went to the floor.later at the garage the pedal again went to the floor, but on another occasion it was able to stop.air bags did not deploy. Actual damage in dollars is only estimate as adjuster has not determined cost as yet.another car ( 1999 geo) was hit in rear and i do not know the amount of her damages.i have contacted cadillac and i am not happy that an impartial witness cannot be on site when they do their physical examination. Please be advised that milage is close estimate.the car is physically not at this location .i also do not know if it is a 2point 3 point or motor belt .

That while driving 60 mph without vehicle collision occurring the passenger's side air bag deployed, causing the occupant to sustain injuries. There were two more accidnets since the first one and the air bags failed to deploy.

Air bag warning light comes on.i find that my vehicle has a vin in the middle of those for which cadillac has issued a recall fix, but for some reason my vehicle is not eligible.i bought my car used, and it was covered by warranty...why isn't it eligible for recall fixes to safety related items?

I have had recurring electrical problems since buying the car.the record at this same dealership shows that the previous owner began having multiple problems as well in 1998. 2001 was the first year an emissions test for the car was required to be licensed. It failed. The dealership could provide no explanation, but did fix numerous componets and it finally passed a manuel test.this year the exact same problem occurred.again, the dealership has no explanation. The technician has 30 years of experience and said he called gm and the engineers could offer no explanation. There are 23 pages of recurring electrical problems ranging from inoperative seat heaters (repaired 3 times and don't work now), seat belt on drivers side does not latch, climate control, thermometer and temperature control panel...it goes on and on.i have the 23 page report that harmon's printed out themselves. Ryan, the technician in the service department agrees that the repairs are extensive and needs investigating.the service manager, scott johnson, refused to even make a single phone call to gm for any help at all.i offered an equitable trade solution and was completely and flatly rejected by the dealership before even speaking with gm. I called gm and they had misinformation as to my complaint about the car and the service manager at harmon's cadillac.i am hopeful the case file has been corrected, but cannot trust this, given my experience so far.the case file number at gm customer service is c06598245.it should reflect numerous and recurring repairs beginning in august of 1998 to present. Next year i will have the exact same problem with the emissions as well.the dealership was very unhelpful and unconcerned with the report and problems i have had. Example...getting the car to pass emissions last year and this year alone has cost me 11 full days of no vehicle, 50 miles of travel to the dealership each trip, lost business. I am a real estate broker and need a car to work. Nlm

I purchased a 97 cadillac deville in january 07. From the start it had problems. It wouldn't crank right and had various electrical problems. Tried many different solutions but none worked. Car still would not crank right. In 08, i purchased a new starter andalternator. Nothing worked. After 9 months, the alternator went out. Had to get a replacement, plus pay again for the labor because the people who did the first time would not replace it because they were under new management. So i had another place put on the new alternator.i also had the same location replace my radiator that had cracked and had been leaking rapidly. Not even two months after getting all the new parts, on march 19 2009, i had been trying to crank the car. It would not crank. It suddenly popped and started smoking. It had done this before and crunk right up. So i go to crank the car up again, its started smoking even more and as soon as i opened the hood, it caught on fire. The fire department was not sure but mentioned it could have been the battery, the new work that i had gotten done or something electrical. When asked if it could be repaired, fire chief stated that they did not think it would be worth putting all the money into and stated that it was totaled.had to wait to get the report so im unsure of what they say the cause was. Now i am out a vehicle because i did not have collision. I put alot into this car and think that all information should have been sent to old and new owners to alert them of any recalls, changes, and what ever else.

Dt: thegas gauge did not work properly. The consumer tookthe vehicle to a mechanic.the mechanic said there was a recall with the fuel rail . He told the consumer to go to the dealership because vehicle had a transmission and oil leak. Thevehicle was taken to the dealer they did the recall and gave them a copy of what mechanic had given the consumer.they replaced the water pump, and said there was a bad oil leak. This wasn't consistent with what the mechanic said. Felt like the vehicle was a safety hazarddue to the north star engine. The consumer was told the vehicle needed a new crackcase seal due to an oil leak, the water pump was leaking and there was no transmission leak.

On november 21, 2005, i payed working man's auto in austin, tx two thousand dollars as down payment for an "as is" 1997 cadillac deville.upon getting the car i informed the salesman of a "service engine soon" light that was on the dashboard.he informed me that it "just needed to be reset".due to my lack of knowledge regarding vehicles i took him at his word.when the took the vehicle to get inspected, it wouldnt pass inspection due to this "service engine soon" light.the manager and salesman asked if i would be willing to go there other site in north austin to get the cars computer reset.i agreed, and on my way the car overheated and broke down.the owner came and replaced the coolant in the car and asked "what would you like us to do?"i asked for a loaner vehicle until the car was repaired.he informed me that he couldnt do that due to "insurance reasons."he told me to go by there location friday and i did.the mechanic claimed to had fixed the problem even though i asked him if with the light being on still, was it okay, and he said yes.he asked if i could come back the following monday to have the computer reset.again i agreed and again on the way home the car overheated and broke down again.they came to get the car to be repaired on november 28 of 2005.with constant phone calls, requests, missed hours of work, stress, not being able to register for school, i hadnt recieved any information from them as to when my car would be repaired.the owner refuses to give me my down payment back, he refuses to place me in another vehicle, and refuses to discuss the matter with me.

I january 2004 i took my 97 cadillac deville to be serviced due to an indicator light on to check the coolant system.i was told that i would need a new engine due to the engineering design of the cadillacs since 1992 of mounting steel bolts in alluminum motor mount which was designed to last only up to 100,000 miles.the options i was giver were to replace the engine or have the mounts rebuilt but the later no longer came with a warranty option since a family opted for that at which time their engine fell out in the middle of the road on their way to california.gm informed me that they would give no assistance for any source of repair with openly admitting they were aware of the defect but were not planning to make any changes to the engine design much lessrecall the vehicles.after spending many hours communicating with them and an attorney writing a courtesy letter on my behalf, their resolve was to give me a certificate towards the purchase of a new vehicle.they have eno concern that this problem is a safety issue, as well as a deliberate engineering design flaw to cause the consumer to continue to spend money.gm indicated that they were perfectly happy with false advertisement stating they backed their product with integrity and quality all well knowing this is a lie to the public.telling lies and stealing from the american consumer has to stop!unfortunately the courts will not go against gm but hopefully the news media will take a stand for the american consumer.

My 1997 cadillac deville stalled while driving. This has happened at steady speed on the freeway, while exiting on a clover leaf ramp at highway speeds, while driving on a country road, while approaching a stop sign. The dealer service dept. Says it shows codes that car stalled but no reason. Therefore, even though the car is under cadillac extended warranty, they will not attempt to diagnose the problem unless the car stalls while they are driving it or if the stall leaves a code stating the cause. I feel the car is unsafe for my family to be driving and am frustrated that they won't try to fix the problem.i've called cadillac customer care, the dealer's gmgr, the svc. Mgr. And they all say they won't do anything till it acts up for them. If i put the car in neutral, i can always restart, but if this condition occurs in highway traffic with a vehicle following close, there could be horrible consequences.

While driving. The panel lights illuminated. Stating to turn engine off. While driving consumer heard a popping noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. Found that it was the head gasket, was told not to drive the vehicle. Please provide any further information.

I had antifreeze leaking from my cadillac deville and took it to a mechanic that i have a lot of trust in. I expected to hear i had a bad radiator and would have to replace it. Instead he called me and told me that gm has a bad design defect with the materials they used on the head bolts to hold the motor. They deteriorate because of this and strip out causing pressure on the radiator and it cracks. All this is a result of using aluminum instead of steal. The mechanic said he see the same thing every other week and to date gm has not done anything about it. I called gm and they blew me off. They gave me a file number of 1-380-399-885.

I was travelling at 80 mph in the far left lane when the vehicle lost power- the gas indicator indicated that i had 5 gallons of gas left and could go 110 + miles.yet when i finally got the car to the side of the road and tried to start it again, it indicated empty.this is the fourth time this has happened.dealer says he can't find anything wrong.

While driving the car starts to make a loud noise like gears changing and comes almost to a halt. The speed gauge just drops from 50 to 30, as though the drive has applied the brakes. The vehicle has been to shop (4) times in a (6) month period for this problem. The problem has not been corrected.

The weather began to warn up and notice something was wrong with the air.i took the car back to the dealer and was told that the compessor was gone. I calledgeneral motors in detroit. They told me i would have to work something out with the dealer. I got a second opinion from grammers automotive repair (901-373-3072) they told me the compressor had to be replaced. They suggested that i go back to the dealer. That i would probably get a better replacement price from them. Cadillac of memphis replaced the compressor for $ 393.89. After they replaced the compressor, i have found three other owners of cadillacs will fail compressors that occurred shortly after the warranties had expired. Icontacted delphi automotive systems, the maker of the compressor. The letter was sent certified in june. I don't understand why these compressors are failing in cars in which the warranties have just expired. I wad told at cadilac of memphis that things like this just happen. I was told that some stange things go on in that service department at cadillac of memphis. They are the only cadillac dealer in this area. Your attention regarding this matter is greatly appreciated.

This is a copy of an email i sent to cadillac.cadillac did respond, however, they are not pursuing this issue any further.i had a very disturbing experiencethis past saturday evening, february 15, 2003.my wife andmyself went out for dinner and theright front tire went flat.it wasonly 15 degrees out and i decidedto change the tire myself.iloosened the lug nuts, then usingthe factory jack, raised the car, took off the flat tire, installedthe spare, and hand tightened allthe lugs nuts.i then went tolower the jack and as i startedturning the bolt to lower the car,the jack broke and the car fell.luckily i was not under the tire orany other part of the car.when ipulled the jack out from under thecar, the sides of the jack tore.it appears that the jack was madeout of material about twice thethickness of sheet metal.the jackwas not robust enough to handle a4000 lb. Car.i was parked on alevel parking lot when ichanged the tire.

Left front headlamp assembly replaced due to an improperly sealed headlamp causing leakage and moisture.

Cover forleft headlamp fell off vehicle on april 10th, 2001, andcover forright headlamp fell off on april 12th, 2001 while the vehicle was traveling at approximately 65 mph.consumer was informed that condensation inhead lamp assembly causedcovers to disconnect.

Headlight cover blew off while driving, no previous damage to vehicle prior to this incident.

Headligt lens comes unglued from headlight flies off; also causes headlight failure; talked with service rep at dealership and he stated that it is a common defect.

The headlight lens has clouded, reducing the light beam affecting night time driving.this is not a surface problem, because it cannot be cleared.the defect is a material problem caused by the sunlight.this problem has existed for about 8 months now making the lens appear opaque even in the day light.cadillac refuses responsibility and says the vehicle is out of warranty.*jg

Consumerwas traveling at approximately 65 mph in high wind whencover forright front headlamp fell off.then, it started raining which caused headlamp bulb to go out.consumer was stopped bystate police who informed him thatheadlight was out.headlight assembly was replaced and the same day while driving the left plastic cover blew off.

While driving glass lens on headlights on both sides fell off without any warning.

My 1997 cadillac deville was one month out of warranty when the right headlight cover fell off whil my wife was on the highway.upon further inspection, i found that the left headlight cover was about to fall off as the adhesive had failed that holds the lens to the headlight body.no replacement covers are available.the only "fix" is to replace the entire headlight assembly at a cost of $689.75 for the two headlight assemblies.cadillac has reuected this as a manufacturing defect or as a safety issue.i feel it is both and that this vintage of cadillac deville's should be investigated for what i am finding out is a somewhat common problem.while my wife was in the service waiting area to have these headlights replaced one of the customers also stated that she was in for the same problem and another said that he had recently had one of his replaced in both instances this was done under warranty.also, if this were not a common problem why would a small town dealership stock such an expensive part and not have to order it from the factory?further, unpon inquiry by a friend of mine of a west palm beach cadillac dealer's service rep, the service rep made the statement that "this happens all the time and we usually cover it under the normal warranty or a special warranty that we can utilize."i feel that this is a safety issue and not just a problem of getting satisfaction from cadillac.the safety issue is that when the headlight cover is gone or fails to be watertight, moisture can reach the halogen bulb within the sealed unit and the least amount of moisture causes the bulb to fail.needless to say, you are then unexpectedly without lights if both units fail and if only one fails you are still without proper lighting for nighttime driving.can you inquire of cadillac as to the frequency of this headlight lens failure and ask them why they have not establised a recall program if this failure is as frequent as i am hearing?

While traveling at highway speeds driver's side and passenger's side headlight lenses blewout. There are no headlights in the vehicle at this time. Dealer has been contacted. Consumer had both the lenses fixed.per phone conversation with cadillac, cadillac agreed to pay 75% of cost.consumer believes this to be a defect cadillac should investigate.consumer is awaiting reimbursement.*jg(possible new address: sharon badgley 33248 sand dune lane, leesburg, fl 34788 352-314-2444)

Driver's side headlight cover fell off.dealer replaced cover. Checked passenger's side and noticed it was loose.consumer states that this could cause light failure or a fire.

Head light lens have falled offheadlights.dealer was notified, and informed consumerthatparts were only sold as a whole unit, not justlens cover. Asking nhtsa to assist in this matter.consumer states that the plastic civer has fallen off while driving, replacement is costly because consumer has to purchase the whole head light assembly instead of just the failed part.

While driving about 65 mph on the open road a headlight lens came loose, and bounced off the passenger side windshield.we didn't know what it was until we stopped and examined the auto.there was a slight dent in the post between the windshield and the passenger side window.the left headlight lens ws examined and found to be loose.on the return trip the left headlight lens came off.fi may have gone under the car as i recall a slight noise while driving.the parts man at the dealer made the comment that this usually doesn't happen to cadillacs and when it does they ususlly just drop off.the lenses are secured to the headlight with glue.apparently this is common on other autos.the repair entailed repalcing both headlight at a total cost of about $610 problem.in my opinion this is poor engineerring.

While drivingheadlight lenses fell off ontwo separate occasions. Head light assembly was replaced.

Headlights had to be replaced because lense was separating, consumer felt it was coming from a heat buildup, consumer also owned a 1995 same make/model that experienced the same problem.

The lens on the headlight lamps are losing the glue, causing the headlight lens to fall out of place.the consumer contacted the dealer, and they were not willing to do anything.the consumer states that on the right headlight holding the 11 by 7 inch lens failed causing the lens to come off while driving at 60 mph.*scc

The passenger compartment, began to smell gasoline, so i did stop in a gas station, open the engine compartment(the hood) and noticed a big gas leak on the gasoline rail close to the carburetor or fuel burner, so i decided to stop there and have towed the vehicle to san antonio, texas...the mechanic charged me 560.00 to change the complete rail for a metal one with the guarantee that this one will not happen the same thing, because is a metal one not a plastic one that the car have originally installed... When i saw this recall , i ask myself who is going to pay now for this ?????!!!!!!!

The contact owns a 1997 cadillac deville. The contact stated that while traveling 40 mph, gasoline fuel fumes emitted from the front driver's side of the vehicle. The fuel gauge indicated that there a half of tank of gas was in the tank, when the tank was nearly empty. The vehicle has gone empty on fuel on three separate occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000 and the current mileage was 114.000. The vin was not available.

I have a 1997 cadillac deville.during hot weather after the car has been driven long enough to reach operating temp and then shut off,raw gasoline flows out of the charcoal filter vent (mounted above the rear axle) and onto the ground and saturates an area of 8-10 feet in diameter under the car.it has been to the dealer twice and to date 2 oxygen sensors have been replaced, the map sensor, the purge valve solenoid, the purge valve switch, and the charcoal filter have also been replaced. None of which has solved the problem. No one at the dealer(s) i've contacted seem to know anything about what components inside the fuel tank or fuel system could cause excessive pressure or heat in the fuel tank causing it to be pumped or vented out through the charcoal filter and on to the ground. When this occurs, it is always accompanied by a gurgling sound in the charcoal filter as if the fuel is bubbling or boiling. It only seems to occur in hot weather regardless of how many miles the car has been driven.

Fuel tank sensor causes an incorrect indication of the level of fuel left in the fuel tank. When the tank is approximately half full, the sensor becomes erratic and shows various fuel levels. I would consider this a safety issue because of the incorrect levels of fuel remaining in the tank being incorrectly displayed. A driver could think that there is a full tank left but run out of gas in a busy traffic area as one example.

This complaint is in regards to the failure of the brake system on a 1997 cadillac.whe the system failed the vehicle was unable to perform an emergency stop.there was no backup system under this condition. At a little less than 90,000 miles the brakes failed.there was no backup.when the pedal was depressed it would bleed down until it bottomed out.it was during the 2002 holiday season and i was unable to get the car serviced.i investigated the problem and found it to be a brake line in the left rear wheel well had a hole rubbed in it.it was obvious that this problem was the result of poor design and due to the point of failure caused the entire brake system to fail.i repaired the line with a splice.i called the cadillac dealer in san antonio, tx and was told there was no service bulletin, however the service manager said that they had seen this problem in the past and referred me to customer service.customer service said there were not any service bulletins related to this problem.i have photographs of the brake line area where the hole was created.if you are interested please let me know.the problem appears to have been the result of poor design in the routing of the rear brake line and i would suspect that the same problem would occur on like models.my interest in reporting this incident is to hopefully prevent accidents resulting from this failure occurring on another vehicle.regards, david mason

I am the owner of a 1997 cadillac deville that has an on-going history of windshield wiper failure. The car has been looked at by my mechanic on numerous occasions for this problem between june 2007 and september 2008. On several occasions the wipers were inoperable when i arrived at the mechanic's facility. On the other occasions the wipers became operable by the time i arrived at the mechanic's facility.the cadillac dealers display no degree of concern in dealing with this problem. In my opinion, all evidence points to a design or manufacturing defect, which could ultimately lead to a crash, or cause injury or death.i bring this matter to your attention because i have lost confidence in any repair recommendations. Further, i am concerned for my safety and the safety of others when i drive this vehicle during inclement weather. I fear the potential for expensive litigation that could follow an accident caused by this problem.i solicit your comments and/or recommendations.stanley l fastenau
