Service airbag light on in vehicle, diagnosis says it is the passenger presence module. Through research, many others are having the same exact issue. The module needs to be fixed, not just replaced with another faulty module.

Cadillac cts was rented, oct 1, 2009, at 9:00 pm, at charlotte airport. My husband was driving the cts home on josh birmingham parkway. I was behind him in our car. We were both on the right-hand side of the road, near the old dowd road overpass. My husband signaled me that he was moving to the shoulder to stop. I was right behind him, on the shoulder. He slowed to less than 5mph. I saw his brake lights. But, his car didn't stop. It continued to roll forward at a weirdly slow speed. Brakes? then slowly, at a very slight angle, the right tire rolled off the shoulder. The rear tires followed. Steering? off-road, it crosses the ditch to the right. His left front tire hits an aluminum barricade. The end is buried into the ground. The cts turned violently to the left. Wheels straddled the railing, "riding" it. It lurched as the undercarriage hit each post. Sparks showered down. Once all the tires were off the ground, the cts came to a stop. The wheels were still turning, as i walked up to his door. My husband was slumped over and unresponsive. His seatbelt was on. Airbags? they had not deployed. I called 911. 10 minutes later fire, emt and police arrived. I was in shock, so the police report had major errors. It claims the car "rolled-over." no! claims the car left the road at 45mph and hit the barricade. No! that his death was caused by an unrelated medical condition. No! the coroner's official report clearly states the cause of death was due to "blunt force trauma from the accident".) the police officer who wrote the official report went on vacation for weeks. Report was never corrected by me. Gm analyzed sdm data (dec 2009). Their date for the accident was wrong, nov 1, 2009. They claim the sdm exonerates the cadillac cts. They blamed the accident on operator error. I know my husband was an exceptionally safe driver, expert mechanic and avid car enthusiast for 50 years.

The service airbag light came on.i took the car to the cadillac dealer who said the connector under the seat was not making contact and that the pins in the connector needed to be replaced ($600). In my opinion this is a design defect as the pins in the connector loose contact as a result of the seat moving back and forth for different drivers as well as driver confort.i have no reason to believe the problem will not reappear and that in the event of an accident that the air bag will deploy properly.i asked the dealer service manager to reach out to the general motors regional service manager, which he said he did and the reply was that cadillac would not get involved in this repair.

Service air bag alert on driver information center came on intermittently from mid-april to may 24, 2018. Took to dealership 5/24/18. Dealer traced, located & repaired high resistance in right front seat side air gab circuit in seat connector at a cost of $168. Dealer said there were no open campaigns on the issue. This is a safety issue that we'd like the ntsb to investigate. As owners, we never removed the seat and, should there have been a crash, the right front passenger side air bag may not have worked.

A police report was not filed. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v394000 (electrical system). The dealer was suing the contact for the remaining balance owed for the vehicle. The insurance company was not paying the claim because they stated there was a manufacturer defect that caused the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

2009 cadillac cts.consumer writes in regards to vehicle vibration/unexpected loss of power and transmission shifting and acceleration problems.the consumer stated the vehicle began shifting gears erratically, vibrating and lacked power. The condition appeared irregular and for some time, no trouble light appeared. Once a light finally appeared, the vehicle was taken to a cadillac dealer who determined that all the ignition coils on one side of the engine were defective. The service representative explained that when one or more ignition coils fail, the engine would have a greater vibration and lack of power. In addition, the coil failure would cause the transmission to unexpectedly downshift to compensate for the loss of power and with multiple coil failures it may shift multiple times each time more power was needed to maintain the throttle speed. In july 2013, the consumer began experiencing the same performance issues. Again, no trouble light appeared. A trip to the dealer resulted in nothing being found, despite the service history of the vehicle. The condition continued and in august 2013. The trouble light appeared. The dealer found an ignition coil on the other side of the engine was defective.

The failure mileage was 35,000.

2009 cadillac cts. Consumer writes in regards to notice of recall for removal of heated washer fluid system *tgwthe consumer does not want to have the recall performed on her vehicle, because it is not needed.

Very sporadically the passenger door either refuses to close from the outside (door bounces back) or you are trapped in the car, when the passenger door refuses to open from the inside.this is a very scary and dangerous situation.

The rear doors will not lock or unlock either with the switch or fob. One must crawl from front seat to rear to unlock the doors manually. Passengers cannot enter rear without doing so. Also doors will not lock automatically, nor with switch, leaving children at risk of opening door from inside. The front driver and passenger doors work but both rear door locks have failed.

Car shuts off while driving at any speed or just when key is on.what exactly happens first car shuts off just like if someone turned key off.2nd stabitrac light comes on for a few seconds 3rd shuts off cruise and will not let you use it for about 10 minutes 4th lockes doors....if you are stopped and this happens you have to start it manually....if you are driving it will shut off and start up by its self.

Ltr fwd fm on behalf of (nc) re defective battery or electrical problem with her cadillac per cadillac's document id #2220774, #pic4979b.*tgw 2009 cadillac cts. On two separate occasions, the consumer returned from out of town trips to find she was unable to gain entry to or start the vehicle. On each occasion, the vehicle remained parked in the garage of her residence for a period of two to three weeks respectively. Each incident required roadside service to transport the vehicle to the dealership.the root cause of the malfunction seemed to be beyond the expertise of the dealership.the dealership advised the consumer to drive the vehicle at least once a week in order to prevent the failure. The dealer installed a trickle charger to prevent the condition, while this is only a temporary fix, leaving an electrical device connected to the consumers vehicle while away was a safety concern.

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. While in park, the contact attempted to turn the vehicle off. The key failed to shift and remained in the on position. As a result, the contact was unable to turn the vehicle off. The vehicle was towed to a dealer who diagnosed that the ignition lock assembly and two keys needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v394000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 68,300.

This car now has a reported second failure of an electrical part that controls the correct operation of this vehicle and it's engine.the failure rate on this item now exceeds 33%, which is not an acceptable rate for a critical engine electrical item!the failure noted here is very dangerous for the live of the people in this vehicle, as it may create an inoperable vehicle in a critical situation. At my age, i do require a safe and operable vehicle!!

2009 cadillac cts4 electrical system drains battery when not driven 7-10 days.then, car is completely dead.car has been in for service four times now and the third time was held for more than three weeks.now the fourth time, gm has had the car more than three weeks again with no idea when problem will be diagnosed or solved.

2009 cadillac cts. Attorney writes on behalf of clientregarding heated washer fluid system *tgwthe consumer received a recall letter stating the heated washer fluid system needed to be removed.the consumer doesn't want the feature removed, because she hasn't experienced any problems.

While driving on the interstate, during a violent rain storm, my cars check engine light went on and the dic message "reduced engine power message came on" which immediately limited the to approx. 2500 rpm.this action created a totally unsafe driving situation.the reduced power slowed the car immediately, in heavy traffic, in a heavy rain storm , with low visibility.lucky for myself and my wife, i was able to avoid creating a series of collisions and traversed across three lanes of traffic to the side of the road.by immediately reducing the engine power created a very dangerous scenario that should never, under any circumstance be created.

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v394000 (electrical system, air bags). The part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The manufacturer was notified. The contact had not experienced a failure.

Cadillac cts, 2009 model year.placed the car in "park" and tried to turn the ignition off. Key would not turn to "off" position. Engine kept running.key could not be removed from the ignition.the service technician said that he has encountered similar occurrence with many 2009,2010 cts vehicles. My fatherdisabled the engine by removing the fuel pump fuse located in the rear trunk of the vehicle. The car was towed to a cadillac dealer for repair.this is a dangerous circumstance. If there were an engine fire, one could not "turn-off" the motor and fuel would feed an engine fire.

Key would not turn in ignition, could not shut vehicle off.this occurred after 9pm in the evening and there was no assistance available through the dealership or onstar to turn the vehicle off.had to leave vehicle unattended and running in the driveway overnight risking an engine fire and could not shut off fuel supply or risking the vehicle popping into gear (or moving into gear by a child) and moving unattended.

While driving my service traction control light came on i pulled over turn it off but not my car will not shift into gear and it has a loud roaring sound when driving

While driving suddenly i lost power steering, abs, power brakes, stability control, traction control. Parking assist and all wheel drive. Car was in motion on a city street. I was able to safely stop the car.all the proper warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. I was close to home so i returned home with no power steering or power brakes.

While driving car jumps out of gear causing rapid deceleration, loss of traction control, stability control, power steering, and brakes. When this happens the instrument cluster looses any indication of gear selection, and car must be shut off and restarted several times to regain controls once parked. Gm/cadillac is aware of the issue since they have a tsb relating to the fault code, but no recall, even though this is a severe safety concern. It has happened several times at multiple speeds highest of which was about 45-50 so far. Have had into shop 4 times. They have replaced a detent, which did not fix the problem, and internal mode switch twice within approx. 2-3 weeks apart neither time has fixed the issue. Now they are wanting to replace the transmission control module, which i have not had done yet since i am not confident in their ability to correct the issue and the cost is well over a $1000. Currently looking into legal recourse, since i have a vehicle that is pretty much a lemon and not safe to drive my children in. Cadillac has refused to grant a goodwill repair even though the issue was addressed 3 times under the cpo warranty. I have been looking online and have seen several recalls for similar issues but different model years. Not sure how rapid deceleration, loss of power steering and braking does not qualify as a recall necessity.

Check engine light, steering tight when backing up or in tight spaces, door locks, suspension control and abs light was a recall on air bags that i dont see on the recall list now

Indicator light came and had a notification that a loss of power would happen. Just barely limped home.

Warning light came on.i brought the vehicle to my mechanic and he said that the timing chain was the problem.the car has only 61000 miles on it.

" the contact owns a 2008 cadillac cts. While driving 50 mph, the contact heard an abnormal clinking noise coming from the engine. The sound usually occurred when the vehicle accelerated. Also, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the technician diagnosed the vehicle and the "timing chain" message displayed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was 34,053. "timing chain failure at 102,000 miles manufacturer did not help, esis claim pending for injury

While driving i heard a loud noise from under the hood and the service engine soon light came on.once able to stop i called onstar and asked them to give me a diagnostic.i was told that it was an engine error and to take in for service.i took the car to the dealer first thing the next morning.was told my timing chain needed to be replaced.my car has less than 28,000 miles.called gm/cadillac was told that while there was a recall (#10287) for prematuring timing chain wear for certain 2009 cts mine was not one of them.

Check engine light came on in may 2014 at 58,000 miles.my timing chain wore out prematurely.gm had a recall through july 2013 for this issue (tsb #10287 2007-09 cts and special coverage adjustment 11340c) that repaired and extended warranty to 10 years from date of original purchase on affected vehicles.i was told my vehicle was not covered under recall.in may 2014, i paid the dealership $1,800 to install a new timing chain kit.in september 2014, check engine light came on again at 80,000 miles and same issue occurred requiring a new timing chain kit after only 22,000 miles on last timing chain kit.gm and dealership refuse to cover the entire cost of replacing timing chain and deny there is a manufacturer's defect.i disagree and have discussed my issue with two independent mechanics who also disagree.gm has not included all affected vehicles in original recall and should do the right thing and repair this defect at no cost to its customers.i should not have paid anything for the first or second repair.gm is putting drivers at risk if timing chain breaks while operating vehicle.

In late august 2018, at or about 66,000 miles the check engine light illuminated. Car went to a cadillac dealer for diagnosis and repair. Codes that were read were; p0008 & p0017 indicating a timing chain wear issue. Timing chain was replaced at a personal cost of $2281.83. The dealer and cadillac customer assistance center informed me that this vin # was not covered under service bulletin 11340c special coverage adjustment, which supposedly covered 2007-2009 cadillace cts vehicles. This issue could have monumental safety issues if the timing chain were to break while driving, rendering the vehicle and occupants dangerously exposed to a traffic collision. Car 3was in motion when check engine light illuminated.

The check engine light illuminated and dealer diagnosed problem code as p0008 pertaining to the timing chain.i was then told that the timing chain was stretched and needed to be replaced for a cost of approximately $2200.vehicle is well-cared for and has 83,800 miles on it.according to other complaints made to nhtsa, a number of people have experienced premature timing chain wear with this make/model.i called gm to inquire about a special coverage adjustment bulletin, issued 11/5/12, #11340c, pertaining to 2009 cadillac cts and other vehicles with premature timing chain wear.even though my vehicle is experiencing this exact issue and presumably would be included in the special coverage adjustment (which extended the warranty for affected vehicles to 10 years/120,000 miles for this issue and requires dealers to replace the chain without the customer paying for it), gm told me that my vehicle was not eligible as only "some" vehicles were included and apparently my vin# was not one of them.if my vehicle is experiencing the exact issue that necessitated the special coverage adjustment, then why am i not given the benefit of the coverage?instead, i am forced to pay out of pocket for a known premature wear issue?why doesn't the special coverage adjustment apply to all 2009 cadillac cts vehicles, not merely "some"?

My engine would not turn on when leaving for work.i did a check under the hood and found i was completely out of oil.my oil gage display was at the halfway mark which means i am still good on my oil.also, the digitial display in my car says that i have 54% of oil life remaining.somwhere within the car, the system wasnt reading the oil level accurately which caused me to believe my oil level was still good.at the moment my car is at the shop waiting for details.how can this issue be fixed to prevent this from happening again and to others?

Gm 3.6l timing chain stretch without warning. Had it failed at speed, it could have been a dangerous situation.

Over the past two years, 4 of the 6 cylinders on this automobile have needed coil replacements on the cylinders. I have owned several gm vehicles and have not needed any repairs of this nature, and believe this may be a hardware defect. The effect has been intermittent loss of power, particularly when accelerating uphill at traffic speeds (50-55 mph). This forces the driver either to slow or to accelerate through this narrow speed band.

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. While driving various speeds, the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain failed prematurely. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 70,000. Updated 03/11/16*lj

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. While driving 40 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that the check engine code needed to be reset and the timing chain possibly needed to be replaced. The check engine warning light was reset, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 109,000.

Regarding tsb 11340 (nhtsa reference- 10043857), which states, "if premature wear of the timing chain occurs on your 2007 model year gmc acadia; saturn outlook; 2007-2009 model year cadillac cts, srx, sts; 2009 model year buick enclave; chevrolet traverse; gmc acadia; or saturn outlook vehicle, equipped with a 2.8l/3.6l v6 engine, within 10 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge"our 2009 cadillac cts with ~94,000 miles has been diagnosed with this failure; however, general motors refuses to make the repairs stated in the tsb at no charge in accordance with the tsb.my experience dealing with cadillac over the past 2 days indicates that cadillac had no intention of making the repairs that they have informed the nhtsa were appropriate.it is my observation that general motors had no intention of honoring the bulletin and only submitted the information to the nhtsa as a means to mitigate the negative public image from this engineering failure.general motors should not be permitted to manipulate public trust and abuse the resources of the nhtsa for their own marketing benefit.this is a deceptive practice and the government should require that the manufacturer abide by the stated resolution and not permit the manufacturer to abuse public resources.

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. The contact stated that the vehicle made an abnormal rattling noise while accelerating at 40 mph. In addition, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. The contact called the local dealer (larson cadillac, 6411 20th st e, fife, wa 98424, (253) 777-0271) and was informed that the vehicle was not covered under a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.

Took my car in because the engine kept running when car is off.( i could only here itwhen in the garage.third time this happened.they replaced water pump 2 years in a row.this year the same thing happened.they said it was the thermostat housing.they replaced it but did not test drive it.i put it on the freeway and got a burning smell with black smoke and a noise.took it back the next day because they were closed.he would not take my car back to see what the problem was.he told me he did not know anything about cars.he just work the desk.he said if you here a noise bring it back.several days later i heard a noise but it did not sound like the same noise.sound like it was coming from the back passenger side.they supposedly replaced the thermostat housing and a hose or something. I asked the manager why would they replace it when i already paid for one just a month or so earlier.he could not give me an answer.then several days later i noticed i had a leak.this time they said i needed a head gasket.at this point i am trying to have someone else give me their opinion. It has 60,000 miles i made a big mistake and forgot to ask for the old part.but had he looked at my car when it was smoking i would not be going through this right know i fee.

I just got a oil change, a week later the engine light came on, so i thought it needs a tune up so i took it to get one and they said it does not need a tune up, they have a code( p0008) they said is the engine position system performance, something about a belt that's lose n it needs to be fix soon or it can be dangerous if i don't fix it so i look around and saw a recall on that code, so i was reading about it, people being having the same problems but they all said that the dealer refuse to fix.how is that possible if is a recall.

My car has less then 96k miles and the check engine light came on and it showed codes p0017 & p0008.gm issues a service bullentin (11340) and later extended it to include the 2009 cts ( 11340c) for premature timing chain wear.even though my cars make, model and year is listed under sb 11340c, when you call gm, they say my vin isn't included.obviously, my car which year is listed should be covered and gm should repair under this sb.it is the exact same issue the sb was issued for. Gm is scamming their customers and there needs to be a recall for this issue.i read thousands of people complaining about the same issue, and all that needs to happen is for the htsa to require all the 2009 cts that had to have this issues repaired at their own expense while gm reaps the rewards of each car that they have a known engineering issue.

The check engine light came on.i took it into cadillac and they said the timing chains needed to be replaced.general motors announced a customer satisfaction program 10287 in feb., 2010 for premature timing chain wear on 2007-2009 cadillac cts.there is obviously a problem with the timing chain wear but i was told that mine wasn't part of that.very early for that to happen with only 70,000 miles on the car.i was told the cost to repair would be $2650.00.

3.6 liter engine timing chains worn, stretched.note - if timing chains fail further andthey jump time serious engine damage can occur. Mileage 47643

My experience dealing with cadillac over the past 2 days indicates that cadillac had no intention of making the repairs that they have informed the nhtsa were appropriate. I had a p0008 check engine code come up on my car for timing chain issues. Gm issued a special extended warranty for 2008-2009 cadillac cts with this issue, but they stated i am not covered under this warranty, but it is the same problem as the tsb they issued.

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. The contact stated that there had been multiple failures with the vehicle ever since it was purchased. The vehicle was taken back and forth several times to mcelwain motor car company chevrolet (812 beaver ave, ellwood city, pa 16117, (724) 824-1223) due to the wheels, wheel bearings, and brake system corroding. The contact had not utilized the emergency brake out of fear that it may not work when needed. Also, the service engine indicator illuminated the last time the dealer dropped off the vehicle. An independent mechanic stated that there were two diagnostic trouble codes for the timing chain. The manufacturer refused to honor tsb: 11340c (special coverage adjustment timing wear) even though the vehicle had less than 120,000 miles. The manufacturer indicated that the dealer may need to replace the timing chain and to have the vehicle repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer provided no coverage of the special adjustment campaign. The approximate failure mileage was 109,000.

Error codes related to timing chain are on therefore it now needs to be replaced. It looks like many people have had this same issue.

Second time timing chain failed cadillac says 2007-2009 cadillac timing chainshave a recall11340c except my vin # car is not included in the recallsi had topay for both repair $1600 and $2900 cadillac should reimburse me.

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. While driving approximately 30 mph, an unknown warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain was worn and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 52,594.

I was driving on interstate when the check engine light came on. After having the vehicle diagnosed it was determined to be failure of the timing chain. If the timing chain had broke while operating the vehicle it could have caused a major accident resulting in injury. Cadillac has known about the issue with timing chain failure. They issued tbs bulletin 11340c special coverage adjustment for timing chain wear and extended it to include 2009 cts vehicles under 120.000 miles. When asked about the bulletin cadillac informed me that only certain vin's are covered under that special bulletin. I believe that cadillac is being deceptive in their dealings and all vin numbers with timing chain wear should be repaired at their expense.the information concerning the possibility of timing chain wear was neverdisclosed by the salesman or the dealership at the time of purchase. Evidently their was a defect in the timing chain components from the factory. The vehicle is currently being repaired at crain gmc 710 s amity rd. Conway, ar 72032 877-302-8551.

P0008 warning light on when drivingmechanic says need timing change replaceddealer says that 11340crepair for 2009 cadillacs does not apply to my vin number carcar was running when engine light came on

Premature timing chain wear.needs to be replaced for approximately $3000.check engine light alerted us of the situation.from our research, there is a known issue with this particular gm vehicle. Gm denies there is an issue for our vin.timing chains do not to wear in 5 years 66617 miles. It is a manufacturer defect.

Was told the timing chain was stretched by a service technician and it was covered by gm with an extended service campaign, 10 years or 120,000 miles.my vehicle had approximately 95,000 miles when the problem as diagnosed.a cadillac dealer confirmed via a phone call the vehicle was covered.upon visiting the dealership, i was told the vehicle make/model is covered but the vin of my vehicle is not covered.the problem is exactly as described by the extended service campaign.

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. While driving, the engine warning indicator illuminated and a p-0008 code displayed. The vehicle was taken to motor world auto group (located at 150 motorworld dr, wilkes-barre, pa 18705, (866) 403-0006) where it was diagnosed with a stretched timing chain that could fracture. The timing chain needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer informed the contact that the vin was not covered under the specialty coverage adjustment for the timing chain. The failure mileage was 108,000.

The vehicle was taken to suburban cadillac of plymouth (40475 ann arbor road, plymouth, michigan 48170, (734) 453-7500) where it was diagnosed that the engine timing chain failed and caused the vehicle to shake while driving. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in the warranty timing belt repair. The failure mileage was 82,000.

I purchased my vehicle in april of 2016 and it ran fine. But as of late i have been experiencing some major problems with the functioning of the vehicle. To date a "service all wheel drive" illuminates on the dash as well as a "service stabilitrak" which causes the check engine light to illuminate and the engine to reduce power. I was on a highway where the speed limit is 65 mph and this occurred which almost cost me my life. I contacted my warranty company which was no help so i scheduled an appointment at a cadillac dealer. I have been researching this issue for 2 months and have found forums online with car owners of gm vehicles experiencing the same issue. I have spent days reading the outcome but no one could say what caused the issue or what was fixed or corrected. The only thing everyone agreed upon was that said issue should be a recall to properly diagnose the problem. I have an appointment with a cadillac dealer in the next week but feel they will not be of any help but have no choice at this point.

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The engine stalled. The failure recurred twice. Takara recall for timing chain on 2009 cadillac cts. Took to dealer and they wont cover it. Car was stationary when the light came on.

My 2009 cadillac cts showed a check engine light. Took to a mechanic who pulled codes p0008, p0017, p0018 which are all related to timing chain failure.i became aware of tbs bulletin 11340c ' special coverage adjustment 'timing chain wear which was extended to include 2009 cadillac cts with less than 120k miles (my car has 107250) i made an appointment with local cadillac dealer who informed me that cadillac is only covering vehicles with certain vin's in which mine is not included.they state that the problem was corrected later in the model year with an improved timing chain.clearly this is not the case.this is a $2000 repair that cadillac clearly states covers vehicles of the model year but then they don't cover it after looking up your vin.here is a link to the service bulletin. Https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2012/sb-10043857-8663.pdfhere is an addl link to many who've had this same problem and not received coverage.http://m.carcomplaints.com/cadillac/cts/2009/engine/engine-2.shtmlsomething should be done about this as it's a very shady business practice. Cadillac clearly knows the problem exists and refuses to do anything about it.

Service engine light came on at 93203 miles. Obd code p0008 timing chain problem. There's a special coverage adjustment (sca) #11340c on 2007-2009 cadillac cts vehicles for that known problem. I'm at the cadillac dealer and my specific vin doesn't fall under that sca. I called the cadillac hq and they opened a case #71-1492554265 and told me to file a complaint with the nhtsa. The sca is 10yrs or 120k miles. It's a known problem which needs to be addressed. Thank you

I purchased a 2009 cadillac cts4, i just recently had a tire blow out due to road hazard which made the tire not repairable. When i pulled over to put the spare on i discovered there was no spare no jack no lug wrench.,.but just an electric tire pump and a seal kit in the wheel well.luckily i was only a few blocks from home but my point is i could have been stranded in the middle of nowhere with nothingto temporarily fix/replace the bad tire.after contacting the dealer on the following monday they ordered a tire and replaced it.i questioned why no spare and they could not answer, just said"that's gm for you"they said they could order a spare tire kit for $340.00 which i did and just rec'd today.with that being said,my question is how can they sell a car without a spare, jack, lug wrench??? every new car i have purchased over the last 30 plus years has always had a spare!!.isn't it required under dot regs. Thank you

2009 cadillac, cts sedan. Consumer states defectivetire compressor *tgwthe consumer discovered the vehicle did not come with a spare tire. The dealer informed the consumer cadillac no longer installed spare tires, but it came with a compressor that provided foam to inflate the tire in the event of a flat tire. In february 2010, the consumers wife had a flat tire. A passerby stopped and tried to inflate the tire using the compressor and foam, the foam went in the tire and came out of the hole. The end result, was no inflation of the tire. The consumers wife had to aaa so the vehicle could be towed. Also the trunk had a leak.

While jacking up the right front side of the car the jack broke at the base of the jack where the two levers connect and the car fell about a foot thegarage floor.the jack was seated level on the concrete floor and in an up right position.i was not under the car, so i was not injured. The jack has only been used about four previous times.

I am finding that the newer vehicles with the led tail lights are very distracting.when following these cars and moving my eyes from side to side the pwm switching frequency causes me to see a strobing effect.this seems to be worse on the cadillac's with the larger tail lights.but there are getting to be more and more cars with the new led light.apparently when the brakes are applied the lights go on steady and i do not see the effect.some of the newer signs on some of the kwik trip stores in our area are also distracting.when seen it makes me think there is a fire truck or police car with the flashers on.it will be a big problem when more car companies start using them.

Electrical connector on the front right headlamp melted and prevented the use of the headlight.second incident in 8 months, with the first occurring on the left front headlamp.dealer blamed incident on heat generated by the halogen headlamp.

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. While making a left turn, the contact noticed that the driver's side turn signal failed to function. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to cma's colonial auto center (located at 100 myers dr, charlottesville, va 22901, (434) 951-1000), but was not diagnosed.

Fuel pump assembly leaks from the plastic "pvc" 90 degree elbow located on the top of the fuel pump. Normal vehicle operation will cause the plastic "pvc" elbow to crack which in turn leads to a pervasive and dangerous fuel leak. The fuel leak then begins to puddle on top of the fuel tank which then flows down the fuel tank towards exhaust and eventually the ground. A strong smell of fuel is present while vehicle is on or off. The leak becomes greater as more fuel is sent to the motor. This is a pervasive issue on many 2009-2015 cts and cts-v vehicles which can be seen on many message boards and forums. This issue has the high potential to cause a fire in which injury or death can occur. In addition, this leak does cause a fuel shortage to the motor affecting drivability of the vehicle. The piece that leaks is inferior and should be replaced to avoid issue.a recall should be issued to resolve this potentially deadly issue.

The contact stated that the fuel injectors have been replaced six times on the vehicle. The most recent time was three weeks ago. The vehicle was taken to be repaired but the failure recurs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.

Noticed gas smell coming from car. I got worried once the gas smell became a everyday thing. Mechanic states a gas leak is coming from the gas tank area. Did a search online and a lot of petiole are having the same issue with this make and model.

Strong smell of gasoline was coming from the car while driving and while stationary. Took car to be checked out and learned that a crack and leak was in the plastic supply line of the fuel pump module. This caused fuel to spill and settle on top of the fuel tank which created a dangerous condition and possible fire.

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. While driving at any speed, an odor of fuel emitted from the fuel pump into the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. The contact stated that the two front door latches were frozen and inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the failure occurred because water and moisture had seeped in and as a result, both latches needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle had already been repaired under a customer satisfaction campaign listed under service bulletin no: sb-09104 (latches/locks/linkages , structure). The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.

Takara recall for timing chain on 2009 cadillac cts. Took to dealer and they wont cover it. Car was stationary when the light came on.

When driving a 2009 cadillac cts the car generates a drone, boom and vibration. This happens when accelerating to or driving at highway speeds. I bought the car new and there has been a problem has been with this car since i took delivery from the cadillac dealer. Gm has issued a service bulletin (#08-07-30-044b) to install rubber insulators and reprogram the transmission control module. This "fix" did not help. It only moved the onset of the vibration to a higher rpm/speed. When the vibration occurs the car does not feel safe. I am not sure if a mechanical component is going to fail. The drone is constant, distracting and annoying while driving. There is also a boom noise at 5 mph when coming to a stop. This is not a smooth quiet safe car. The cadillac service mgr says he does not hear anything. I do not agree. Cadillac also says the noises are inherent in the vehicle and have no fix. They are making no attempt to fix the car at this time.

During highway driving - loss of forward motion, coasted to a stop.no forward or rearward movement possible afterwards

At 101,000 miles my 2009 cadillac cts awd starting to "thump" when shifting from reverse to drive or vice versa. It also did it when coming to a stop. This started happening on a thursday. I made an appointment for service for the following wednesday at the dealer. On my way to the service appointment, the transmission failed one mile from the dealership on a busy highway. I managed to safely get the vehicle off the road without causing an accident. I called the dealer and told them what had happened. They didn't even offer to come and get me when i could see the building from where i broke down. I had to call a wrecker to bring them the car. They said my transmission was ruined and it would cost me 3995 to repair it. Needless to say, the car wasn't worth the investment. I had onstar for the entire life of the vehicle. I never received any diagnostic warnings regarding my transmission. I also took the car to the dealer for regular service. Never was i informed that my transmission was beginning to fail. In fact, the car had been to the dealer at 98000 miles for service. There were no warnings at that time that my transmission was failing. A transmission should not die at 101,000 miles. The fact that the car completely died while driving on a busy highway without any warnings of an impending problem is a safety hazard. I'm lucky to be alive. It appears that this problem is not unique to my car. This should have been part of a recall. Instead, i was unexpectedly forced to get another vehicle.

There is a jolting in the rear of the car that is acting like someone is stab braking.it does it at all speeds but does not do it all the time

At under 90,000 miles my 2009 cadillac cts awd started to make a thumping noise when i shifting between gears. This happened for 3 days.on the 4th day i drove to my office, parked in a parking ramp.when i went to leave for the day i got in my car to go home, the car started and moved into gear, but as i approached the exit gate, which is on a hill it, car abruptly made a grinding noise and would no longer move forward or backward.there were cars lined up to exit the parking ramp behind me.i was fortunate to act quickly and use the emergency brake to prevent the car from rolling into another vehicle. I had to get assistance from other drivers and security guards to help push the car out of the ramp exit lane.with no notice of the transmission failure i could have been on the freeway and have caused an accident when the car suddenly stopped working.as it is, i was lucky not to have rolled back into other cars. I called the dealer to report the issue and they said it sounded like a transmission problem.i had the car towed to a service station who confirmed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replace at a cost of over $4,000.00. There were no "check engine" lights regarding the transmission.the transmission should not have failed at my mileage and use rate.the dealershiptold me that there was no recall and that no-one else had experienced this issue.i find hundreds of reports of this issue online.at the price i paid for this car it should have lasted another 10 year. There were no warnings that my transmission was failing. A transmission should not die at less than 100,000 miles. There are numerous reports showing that this problem is not unique to my car.this has to be a faulty part and a recall should be established.

I purchased a cadillac cts and the timing chain is out. The engine light came on and i brought the vehicle to an authorized dealer and was told that this was out. I have googled this model and have found others to have had the same problem. Why haven't someone held this company responsible for placing a know fault part into their vehicle. I will never purchase another cadillac and i will inform my circle of friends about the service and lack of care. This was my second cadillac and my last.

The transmission failed while the vehicle was stationary at a stop sign on a street road in blacksburg, virginiathe consumer stated a few months after purchasing the vehicle, the transmission locked up at 59,000 miles.

While driving my service traction control light came on i pulled over turn it off but not my car will not shift into gear and it has a loud roaring sound when driving

I was driving my 09 cts-4 w/ 20,000 miles on 12-12-09 @ 40 mph when i heard a loud boom from the rear and the rear wheels locked. This caused a huge jerk and several skips on the road before coming to rest after a 150 ft skid (paced off skid marks) . When i tried to drive the car from it's stuck position from the middle of the road, the exact same thing occurred @ 5 mph. The car was towed to a dealer.gm authorized the dealer to replace the rear differential assembly under warranty sight unseen. The dealer did not even remove the differential first to determine the damage or diagnose the cause. The service manager said there was no sign of fluid leakage and that the differential was full of fluid when it was removed. The differential has been replaced and there has been no problem since.fortunately the car did not skid off the road.had other cars been on the road, a crash would have occurred.

The rear differential routinely makes loud grinding and clunking noises when making slow turns at parking lot speeds when cool and just starting to be operated.this problems was been in for service 3 times and the dealer states it is normal and an expected thing that may occur.i disagree, grinding gears and/or clutches are not normal or safe.my car was purchased new on 10/30/091st service came on 10/25/13 at 36,605 milesthe problem was described at the service appt to "diagnose rubbing noise when making slow sharp turns, goes away after warmed up.noise comes from rear of vehicle."the resolution at the time was to do "as per document #3402587 flushed gear oil from rear diff and replaced with an updated fluid. 2nd service came on 3/21/17 at 64,269 milesthe problem was described at the service appt to "diagnose gravely grinding sound from rear of vehicle when making tight turns at parking speeds.also noticeable 25-30 mph."the diagnosis and resolution this time was again "test drove for grinding noise while making tight turns.was able to duplicate concern found coming from rear diff.per doc id 4013532 recommend servicing rear diff with new fluid.new fluid has additive that will last longer and does not break down over time.serviced rear diff and test drove found noise went away, no other repair needed."3rd service came at 6/18/18, at 71,678 miles.the car is presently in the shop for diagnosis and service.this is only 7,396 miles since the prior service.the problem was described as "inspect for gravely sound when making turns**rear diff service done for this ro#394816 3/22/17 #881."the problem i have with this is that this is not a normal and expected problem and could be very dangerous if the rear transaxle fails while driving at speed due to a gear or clutch failure.gm knows of this problem based on the fact they have 2+ bull

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph the vehicle accelerated on its own. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician tightened the drive shaft bolts to the transmission; however, the failure recurred after the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle not repaired after the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.

Both the driver and passenger doors were bent. There were no injuries. Auto star (4395 buford hwy, peachtree corners, ga 30071, (770) 446-8772) towed the vehicle away and declared it destroyed.

01/07/16,my wife and my son of 3 years were driving a 2009 cts with 77k. All of a sudden the vehicle stops and won't move. No warning signs, nothing! as she tried to put the vehicle in gear she heard a whining noise. The car would not move.

The spline on the transmission stripped out because of rust and i believe poor workmanship. The vehicle just went out of warranty two months ago.it will cost me aprox. $4000. To repair. Potential hazzard.if i were on the interstate it may have caused a terrible accident. When willgmhave a recall so i can get my money back?

Timing chain check engine light

Cts timing chain bad - engine codes p0008 & p0017 coming up - was told by cadillac of las vegas that there was a service bulletin related to this issue, but for some reason, my vin was not included.regarding tsb 11340 (nhtsa reference- 10043857), which states, "if premature wear of the timing chain occurs on your 2007 model year gmc acadia; saturn outlook; 2007-2009 model year cadillac cts 2009 model year 2009 equipped with a 2.8l/3.6l v6 engine, within 10 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge" our 2009 cadillac ctswe are experiencing the exact issue mentioned in the bulletin, but gm refuses to acknowledge any culpability in the matter, despite the vehicle being within the parameters established within the bulletin.we ask for any and all assistance in this matter. A quick scan of the internet shows a large number of gm vehicle owners with vehicles that were included in the tsb that were being denied service.if a company makes a claim, it shouldn't be done as a pr gesture with no action behind it. They should be made to live up to their words and back the quality of the vehicles that they have sold.

I was trying to adjust the seat belt clip (male part) on the drivers side rear seat belt.the clip was turned the wrong way on the seat belt.while trying to adjust the clip the lower part of the seat belt came apart from its anchor. I was stunned at how easily the seat belt detached.i came to the conclusion after inspecting the belt that there was no stitching in the belt where it should have been sewn together.it looks like the machine that attempted to sew the seat belt had no thread in it.the hole marks and sewing pattern are there but with no thread.note: i am the second owner of the car.i purchased the car from a family friend who is a middle aged single person.i doubt the seat belt had ever been used by a rear-seat passenger.

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. When the vehicle was started, the passenger side air bag warning indicator consistently illuminated. The failure recurred each time the vehicle was started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front passenger seat belt pre-tensioner needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 19,000. Updated 12/03/15*ljthe dealer informed the consumer, the problem causing the red warning light to illuminate on the screen was due to a pre-tensioner which rendered the activation of the seat belt inoperable. The consumer received a second opinion, which was the same diagnosis. However, the price was cheaper. Updated 12/28/15.

Check engine light, steering tight when backing up or in tight spaces, door locks, suspension control and abs light was a recall on air bags that i dont see on the recall list now

At first, the car wasn't running straight. When i drove straight on an interstate, the steering wheel was about five degrees clockwise. Therefore, i went to the local cadillac dealer, [xxx], for a wheel alignment. After the alignment, the car ran pretty good, until it ran over a small bump on the road. When i ran over the bump, the car suddenly ran toward the right. I tried to turn left, but it didn't work for about half a second. After half a second, i controlled the car, and it worked fine. I made an u turn, and went to that place again, and it happened again. I went home, grab my meter and my thermometer, and went back to that place. The road temperature was 33.1 degrees, and there was no ice on the road. The bump was about 4 inches over the road. I took the car to the dealer next day, and they checked almost everything. However, they're unable to identify the problem.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While in motion on a highway, the all wheel drive off, service stabilitrak service, service traction control and service brake assist displayed on the dashboard. My brakes were affected for a while, then returned to normal. After that i have the sameintermittently.

We were leaving a diner parking lot in the afternoon, when i had to stop for a delivery truck blocking our exit. When the truck pulled forward i lightly pressed the accelerator and the car began to surge forward and to our left(my wife was in the car with me). I pressed down on the brakes and the car continued forward and began to turn to the right and i tried to steer the car to the left but the steering did not respond resulting in my hitting two parked cars. I had the car towed to the cadillac dealer. The dealer indicated that there was nothing wrong with the car and suggested that the surge was caused my a secondary car mat but could not explain the steering problem. This same situation occurred during our severe snow storm last winter. At the time i assumed it was due to icing conditions on the road and my dealer indicated that they had reset the car codes to correct any errors(stability control light stayed on)

The contact owns a 2009 cadillac cts. The contact heard a squeaking noise in the rear brakes immediately after the vehicle was purchased. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph. He took the vehicle to the dealer who resurfaced the rotors. Within two days, the squealing noise recurred. He took the vehicle back to the dealer and new rotors were installed in the rear. After a week, both the front and rear brakes began making a squealing noise. He called the dealer and was told that they could not repair it again because it had not been authorized by the manufacturer. He had not spoken with the manufacturer to-date. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was approximately 6,200. The failure mileage was 2.

Ever since i took delivery of my 2009 cts the brakes have squealed. Cadillac dealer replaced brake pads but said cadillac is aware of problem but has no remedy as yet. This is occurring on a daily basis with no remedy or contact from the dealer or cadillac when to expect a fix.

With about 5,000 miles of 09 cadillac cts brakes began to squeal. At 8,381 miles dealer replaced rear brake pads and completed service bulletin to rotors. While on vacation, at 10,000 miles brakes went all the way to the floor to stop vehicle. Took to dealer who could not locate problem. Problem continued. While taking car to locate dealer, problem just went away. Dealer keep car for 3 days but could not locate the problem. 2 weeks have past and 1000 miles and all is normal.

Steering locks up at idle and low speeds. Takes all my strength to overcome this situation almost caused an accident. Happens in park lots, city and superhighway. Since december of 2018.i called gm and cadillac and they refused to tell me thereplacement part number for power steering fluid listed in the owners manual

When driving on the highway over normal bumps (bridge seams, r.r tracks, highway concrete expansion joints) the car performs an uncommanded turn to the right, the steering wheel is quickly turned to the left by driver, followed by the steering wheel pointing (up to) approx. 30-45 degrees to the left while the vehicle goes straight.sometimes "stabilitrak off" message shows on the dash then the stabilitrak light comes on, sometimes no dash warnings come on at all.sometimes the amount of steering wheel misalignment is a little, then a little more, and can be smaller amounts depending on the bumps.if the vehicle is shutdown, the driver's door is opened and closed, and the vehicle is restarted, everything is back to normal and the steering wheel is straight again.this is not once in a while, it's repetitive and happens daily.dealer has ordered a steering wheel position sensor to fix this and states that what is happening is impossible.

There is a steering problem felt vibration coming from steering when making turns, took to one dealership who claimed it is fixed, and it wasn't, took it to another dealership two week later for steering vibration, they found out the drive shaft needs replacement. The worst investment of my life since the car had also a water leak from the sunroof which they claimed it was a manufacturer's defect.

2009 cts di has had constant problems with vibration in front end felt thru steering wheel vibration as well. Occurs anywhere from 60-75 mph mostly highway driving. Dealer has tried changing tires, replacing suspension parts and still the dealer states cannot find the culprit. Dealer is acting very responsibleas always. I have concerns that a safety issue is looming and hope this gets resolved soon. Problem has existed for some time and dealer has had the car for resolution of same 4 times. Dealer agrees a problem exists but to dat no cure. ( 8-15-2010).

2009 cadillac cts *grthe consumer stated from time to time, while waiting for a red light to change with his foot on the brake, the vehicle would suddenly surge into the intersection almost causing an accident or when parking and shifting from reverse into drive, the vehicle would suddenly surge forward. The consumer has taken the vehicle to the dealer several times, but they were unable to duplicate the problem. The consumer also stated the steering wheel locked which made it impossible for him to turn the ignition on. On three occasions, he had to call for assistance.

Driving down the interstate highway going about 65 - 69 mph, the right wheel tire started shaking violently, and squealing then, it started wobbling but i was able to get it to come to a complete stop after it spun around a few circles. I got out of the car and noticed that the right rear wheel was sticking out and crooked. I took the car to the dealership right after that, and they replaced the knuckle, link, bolt and tire rod. The suspension got extremely messed up that i've still been unable to get the suspension back to somewhat normal. This costed me 948.01.

Just like many other gm's the steering wheel will stick while driving and release in one direction of the other. It has caused us almost to have a head on collision. I have taken to dealership 2 and they have no remedy for this issue. They said they could change the steering column but can't guarantee it will fix the issue. They have test drive and have duplicated the same locking and sticking while driving. I'm afraid to drive this car and the gm dealer has no diagnosis to solve this issue. The steering wheel will lock and violently take a sharp turn when it unlocks.

Front passenger door fails to open from outside the vehicle, first intermittently, then constantly. After inspecting the vehicle, dealer said it was a faulty door lock actuator, and that eventually, the door wouldn't open either from the inside or outside of the vehicle. This is a safety issue that i'd like the ntsb to investigate. Dealer said there were no campaigns on the issue. The car is garaged 100% of the time when not being driven. It had 37,367 miles on the odometer when inspected at the dealership for the front passenger door not opening. Dealer said it would cost $576 to repair.

Severe tire damage due to movement of lower control arm anchor points on 2009 cts-v resulting in contact of tire (sidewall) with lower control arm while turning, merging and/or entering the flow of traffic.in addition to contact damage, the movement of lower control arm anchor points can result in miss alignment of tires resulting in excessive and sudden wear of tires resulting in exposed threads and other tire structures.particularly on the extreme inside edge and, in the case of contact with control arm, inside sidewall of the tire which is difficult for the driver to detect and could put the driver and the general driving public at risk of the tire "blowing out" suddenly.

2009 cadillac cts-v.consumer requests vehiclebuy back per lemon law. The consumer stated the vehicle made a noise similar to driving over a bed of large rocks while backing up. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, however, the problem continued.

I own a 2009 cadillac cts, with approximately 90,000 miles.my check engine light came on and i took it to my cadillac dealer.i was told my timing chain is stretched, loose or needs adjustment.i was told it would cost $1800.upon research i discovered there was supposedly a special warranty on this specific problem.i called the cadillac dealer, gave them my vin number and was told, my vehicle was not included.i was very skeptical and did not believe that i was getting accurate information. I want to document this negative experience with my vehicle.it cost me $1280 to repair.the cadillac technician told me i could drive it with no problems.common sense says otherwise!

Takara recall for timing chain on 2009 cadillac cts. Took to dealer and they wont cover it. Car was stationary when the light came on.

While driving my service traction control light came on i pulled over turn it off but not my car will not shift into gear and it has a loud roaring sound when driving

I have found some recalls for this car by vin.#, but when i enter it in gm recall site, they say there is no recalls. Mitchell and all data reported a passenger air bag module, no deployment problem. Heated windshield washer module can cause a possible fire. Rear tie rod nut can come loose and cause loss of vehicle control.

Service traction control and reduced engine power came on the display. Vehicle runs and idles roughly even when in park. Took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told to call cadillac dealer about a special coverage adjustment: throttle body-reduced power mode. Gm #14582. Looked up this special adjustment and it states it is on 2008-2011 cadillac cts models. Called local dealership and was told it had been determined that because my car was not manufactured in a specific plant, it was not included. My car is doing exactly what this special adjustment covers and i am not eligible to have my car repaired because of where it was built?i was told that i could have a gm certified dealership verify the issue and then call gm experience rep. If i was not satisfied with results then i could call gm customer service and ask for help paying for the repair. I should not have to pay for a repair that has already been documented and is currently being fixed on other cadillac cts vehicles. This needs to be repaired across the board as obviously this is not just a faulty part put on vehicles in specific plants or with specific parts.

This same situation occurred during our severe snow storm last winter. At the time i assumed it was due to icing conditions on the road and my dealer indicated that they had reset the car codes to correct any errors(stability control light stayed on)
