Several issues with the 2004 cadillac to report.#1 (most significant)the rear seat child seat latch mechanism does not work.i had this inspected by the dealership and then admitted that the design is defective and will not properly latch and hold the belt.any wiggling of the seat will loosen the belt through the latch.the cadi does not have a lock type mechanism where you pull the belt all the way out and then it won't give.they claim the latch mechanism will hold.i drove around for two weeks with a two year old in a four inch slacked car seat.#2 - remaining miles display is defective.i recently ran out of gas when the display read "41 miles remaining".the service department admitted that this is the sixth time they have seen this and that i should us the gauge and not the display.what is the point of the display?very dangerous!i was stranded on the side of the road in a snow storm for over an hour.#3 - bose cd player has errored over 20 times and locks up with an "initializing cd" error.not common to any one cd.cd player will lock up and will be unusable for five minutes to two days.

My cadillac cts 2004 key is stuck in the ignition and will not release. The car was towed to two different dealerships one said it was a battery. I purchased a new one that wasn't the problem and one thought it was the alternator and that wasn't the problem. I did have a recall on the key ring and got that taken care of, but honestly the same recall that is dealing with the camaros and the cobalts need to be enforced with the cadillacs. Gm new there was something faulty about the keys getting stuck in the cadillacs. I've been on several forums and we all have the same problem!
This incident occurred twice. The first time (april 29th 2013), the car was at a stop light. The engine turned off by itself and the message: "anti-theft" was displayed on the car sat-nav screen. Key was removed from ignition and reinserted. After turning the key, the engine restarted. The second time (may 3rd 2013), the car was in motion in a parking lot. While pulling into a parking spot the engine turned off again. The message: "anti-theft* was displayed on the car sat-nav display. After removing the key and reinserting the engine started when the key was turned. My mechanic informed me of this website to report the incident. The car has been brought to a cadillac dealership and i have also reported the incident with cadillac corporate. A rep from cadillac will be in contact with the dealer. Said that i will receive a call back between 5/6/2013 and 5/9/2013 with the options to resolve the issue.
Service theft system has came on randomly which would not let the car be moved out of park. Which also causes the key to not be removed from ignition. The car also has intermittent starts and can be jumped at the starter relay in the fuse panel. This all happened when the car was stationary. It makes the gas gauge and temperature gauge not work but speed and rpm do work.t he lights on the shitter do not work along with rc not functioning and theft symbol showing on instrument cluster also..

I purchased a 2004 cts in may of 2007.there was approximately 30,000 miles on the car.there is now 52,000 miles on the car.my concern is that since having the car on four occasions the car has failed to start.the dashboard goes black, the first time we thought it was the battery, but when the battery was tested we were told it was fine.the other times it was taken to the dealership for repair.no clear explanation was given for the breakdown.the problem is that car goes dead the dash panel is black and silent.there are no significant events leading to the failure.

I was notified by u.s. Mail from general motors on 9/19/2014 that my vehicle was involved in a recall notice #14172. The letter stated that parts were available for the repair to my vehicle. Letter also stated that i was to make an appointment with my cadillac dealer to get the repair completed. None of this is true. The dealer informed me that the parts were not available and that they did not accept appointments for the repair. This letter from general motors, dated september 2014, and signed by [xxx], vice president - global safety is very misleading and apparently contains false information. I contacted general motors by telephone @ 1-800-458-8006 and the agent from general motors confirmed that the letter contained false information. Since human lives are at risk concerning the recall, i feel this is a mistake that needs immediate correction.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

On may 18th, 2018 i purchased a 2004 cadillac cts from top notch auto.the gas gauge, brakes, a/c, blinkers dash buttons all were not working.he said to bring it the next day and they would fix it all.i ran out of gas getting there the next day due to not having a working gas gauge.i spent the entire day there and they did nothing to fix the car.the next day the computer (ecm) went out on the car and the engine light came on saying the catalytic converter was bad.i took the car back and asked for my money back and they said no but would fix it and they had the car for over two weeks.they said everything was fixed but i noticed the car went from 176000 miles to 101000 miles (odometer rolled back).i asked about this and he said it was legal and necessary to fix the car.the day after getting it back the service engine light came on again and the car would not go over 20mph on the road.the codes read po121, po23 and this time it was the throttle body and wiring that were bad.the dealer would not pay for it.i paid $498 out of pocket and another 3 days without the car.i told him the brakes were still bad and the car barely stops and pulls hard to the right.on friday june 22nd they told me to come in to get the cars vin checked out for my registration and so they can look at the brakes.they said they brakes are fine (they are not) and he took my keys and would not return them until i signed documentation saying i would not complain or take him to court.it is now july 9th, 2018 and they will not give me my plates or registration and say i am stuck paying for this death trap of a car.
On wednesday, october 18, 2017, while driving from work i had to suddenly apply to my brakes. In the process, from out of no where my car just cut off and continue to cruise along.i had to cruise to the side of the highway and at the same time my stern wheel was hard to turn. Once i came to a stop on side of the highway i attempted to put my car in park and turn my ignition switch to the on position. This was a very scary situation for me, because i was on the highway.

My car was in motionon the interstate.the car is used but excellent condition and recently purchased. I felt a jolt got off the next exit and car will not start, all batteries come on, everything else works
My complaint does not involve a crash, it involves gm's performance in its recall # n140172, nhtsa recall # 14v394, issued 7-21-2014.1. The recall should have come years earlier. 2. Gm as of now has no remedy for the defect & cannot tell me when it will.3. I have not received a recall letter, i found out my car was subject to recall on gm's website 8/22/14. I had checked in early july & website showed no recall.4. Gm will not give a loaner vehicle until defect is remedied. And advises only to remove all from ignition key, adjust seat & steering column to get key away from knne, but this means airbag will deploy toward my head rather than my chest.since the car was purchased, the ignition has been difficult. Once when i tried to start the vehicle, the ignition key was locked, vehicle towed to dealer, & i was told a bad computer was replaced. Since purchase, ignition hard to get into lock position so key can be removed. Daily i have had to shift out of park & back into park, sometimes several times, before the key can be removed.
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts. The contact was locked inside of the vehicle and could not get out after the vehicle was started. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,000.
I am writing to report a very dangerous problem that occurred to my wife's 2004 cadillac cts.while she was driving to work that morning she began to smell a rotten egg type of odor inside the vehicle.she thought what she smelled was an exhaust odor.at this point she decided to return home with vehicle. When she returned she had me inspect the car, as there was steam emitting from under the hood.upon opening the hood the source of the steam was revealed as the vent outlets on the battery.the battery was hot and was venting sulfuric acid steam.the battery is located in front of the firewall on the passenger side directly adjacent to the air intake grills for climate control system.the sulfuric steam was being sucked into the air intake of the hvac system and then being emitted into the cabin via the vent system.my wife had inhaled this caustic gas for the period she drove the car causing her to have severe respiratory distress requiring an emergency room visit.she was treated for severe respiratory irritation due to exposure to the caustic gas.the symptoms and illness from this exposure lasted 8-10 days and included a number of follow up visits to the doctor. At this time there has been no definite cause or reason to why the battery failed.a certified mechanic said that the battery probable had a major plate failure and went into an internal, dead short circuit causing the overheating. I want to warn/document this incident as a dangerous threat to the occupants of 2004 cadillac cts and other similar models. My concern is that this problem may occur to others and someone may die due this poor design.gm patented the design of the battery and making it a dealer only replacement part.this demonstrates their responsibility for the battery design and location in the vehicle.it appears that they are negligence in providing safe vent path for the battery in the event of such a failure.
Multiple, arbitrary incidences of the brakes shaking, kind of grinding and car not wanting to stop, generally when pulling into or out of a parking spot, or coming to any slow stop.always at a low speed.spoke with two gm dealership service managers who have no knowledge of this problem, although it is documented close to 100 times on this and other web sites: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0f480a/29please check these posts since so many others have experienced this problem which (as stated in one of the posts) very well could be a failure in the design or workmanship in some of the wiring harnesses connecting the ebcm to the speed sensors that causes the brakes to fail.whatever the cause, one would not expect any brake trouble on a vehicle with only 21,000 miles.this is a deadly flaw and i expect gm should own up to it, educate dealers and owners and fix the problem.thank you.i look forward to your response.
My car was in motionon the interstate.the car is used but excellent condition and recently purchased. I felt a jolt got off the next exit and car will not start, all batteries come on, everything else works
Had my cruise control set at 70 mph for highway driving when i heard a psshhh sound and cruise control broke violently and smelled burnt rubber with smoke coming from back end of car. Pulled over immediately and car smoke from back end and smell only increased. Thought for sure i had a tire blowout. Walked around car and nothing wrong with tires. Had car towed to an auto repair place and am told that the rear differential went out. I have since investigated and found many, many forums about this issue. There are no recalls for this particular model but a certain recall for 2005 models. This situation could have been deadly and i feel both fortunate and upset with gm that such a problem has been so commonly noted but with no "real" resolve. The auto repair place has called around and this is a special part that is not available in my state and a new one costs an estimated $1,200. With so many issues with models 2004-2006 how come there is no recall for 2004 and only a lesser degree of a recall for 2005?
While driving at varying speeds (typically over 30 mph) the "stability system engaged" message comes on and the car violently pulls to the left with a weird noise. This is really scary while driving down the interstate at high speeds. No recall exists and this has taken place for two years. I have since learned how to turn off the traction control and this problem by holding down the traction control button on the inside of the glove compartment. This is no real solution to the problem since it has to be done every time i drive the car.
Wheel hop or axle tramp caused the rear to lose traction and the stability track and traction control failed to correct the problem.the axle tramp is a severe banging of the rear when there throttle is applied to the car.the rear spun and caused the car to hit a guard wall.
While traveling at 70 mph and all of sudden the stability tracking system engaged on its own and caused the vehicle to pull to the left. Manufacturer was contacted by consumer.

The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts. While driving various speeds, the check engine, service air bag, and traction control warning indicators illuminated. In addition, the rear of the vehicle made noises. Patriot auto sales in cleveland, ohio was made aware of the failures and scheduled a service appointment. I have a 2004 cadillac cts i have replaced the ecm, throttle body 3 times, gas pedal, wiring harness for the throttle body, but the throttle body position will be learned for about a month then my vehicle would go into limp mode almost causing several car accidents. I have tried just about everything i have had the engine replaced as well. I don't want to let this vehicle go but this issue will not stop. It is a huge safety issue and i need it fixed before me or one of the other gm owners lose their lives.
The timing belt cover leaking oil creating fire hazard
I have a cts and i've gotten it service thinking it was a tune up do to it was misfiring. Come to find out that it was my cylinders gotten then fixed and it has done the same. Did research on cts and come to find out that is a major issue for these cars. What kind of solution can be made to stop these issues
2004 cadillac cts. Consumer writes in regards to ecm board recall.the consumer stated the dealer there was a recall on the vehicle. The cost to repair/replace the ecm board was $800.00. The day after the vehicle was returned to the consumer, it would not start. And the same message displayed on the vehicle, from when it was originally taken to the dealer. The transmission cooler lines blew out of the radiator.the transmission fluid was blowing out all over the engine compartment front tires, front brakes, and onto the road. I saw on some forums, where they stated that this was a common problem for the cadillac cts.and i wasn't sure if anyone else had filed a complaint.it definitely was not a safe situation to be in.to be honest, i have owned/driven a number of cars, starting from a 1950 chevy.i can't believe that the cooler lines blowing out of the radiator is now a problem.none of my previous vehicles had this problem and they were definitely not in any kind of pristine condition.
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts. The contact was driving 10 mph when fluid began leaking from the vehicle abnormally and the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the dealer advised that the transmission coolant line fractured from the radiator. The dealer advised replacing the radiator assembly, coolant lines and refilling with automatic transmission fluid. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 90,400.
Noticed brown liquid leaking from the front driver wheel area. Had vehicle towed to gm dealer where they discovered a coolant line failure which created leaking of transmission fluid into radiator and coolant into transmission. Both transmission and radiator need replacing, car is unable to be driven. This was determined by the dealer and cadillac to be a failure of the part, unable to be prevented and unable to detect. Consumer was not at all responsible for damage. Total estimated cost $4,900. Contacted gm where they offered to "split" the cost 50/50, myself reliable for the $2400. Although cadillac took responsibility for the failure, i am responsible for the cost of repair.
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts. While driving approximately 15-20 mph the transmission cooling line broke off from the radiator and the fluid spilled out of the vehicle. He stated the vehicle stalled, there was fluid on the ground and inside of the vehicle . The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. Emission test failure.2004 cadillac cts. 875 miles on odometerjust picked up from dealer brought back following day for inspection sticker, would not pass emissions test.told by dealer vehicle had blocked catalytic converter and need replacement.
Floor mats that come with the cadillac cts do not stay in place, they get pushed forward under the break and gas peddle preventing acceleration and stopping.
Radio for the cts intermittently loses audio for am,fm and cd functions. The radio has been brought in for repair several times, only to be reprogrammed. There is an apparent software problem that has not been identified by general motors cadillac division.

January 29, 2012, vehicle headlamp went out.i observed condensation in the headlamp assembly.it was taken to the dealer who determined water had entered assembly and shorted out ballast and bulb on high intensity discharge headlamp assembly.repair cost: $646.approximately may 5, 2012, during rainy weather, same headlamp went out.again, condensation in headlamp assembly.bulb and ballast shorted out due to water.required replacement headlamp assembly, repair cost in excess of $1200.complained to gm, and they provided goodwill cost adjustment, but still had to pay an additional $671.i'm afraid the right side headlamp will do the same thing eventually.gm needs to replace faulty headlamp assemblies on vehicles due to condensation caused by manufacturers defect in sealing the assembly during production.there appears to be a lot of issues with high intensity discharge headlamp assemblies on gm vehicles.
My car was in motionon the interstate.the car is used but excellent condition and recently purchased. I felt a jolt got off the next exit and car will not start, all batteries come on, everything else works
On my 2004 cadillac cts the area where the backup lights are leaks from rain, or a car wash.this causes the constant replacement of bulbs because of rain and moisture getting into the area causing the short circuit of the bulbs, and corrosion of electrical sockets, let alone the risk involved of backing up and someone hitting our car from the rear because of failure of the back up lights, (we've had to replace the bulbs four timesin 2 months).we took our car today to the cadillac dealership, only to be told that they do not fix this problem, that cadillac found the error, and that the entire section of the car has to be replaced. Yet we have to pay between 500.00 to 700.00 for parts and labor to have the correction made.for this to be a 3 year old vehicle, and for this to be a problem, that cadillac knows about, this sounds more like a recall item that should be covered by cadillac and gm.
Headlights flicker, about as quickly as the blink of your eye.have retruned the car to the dealer three times but they have been unable to duplicate or repair the condition.
The dimmer switch stays on,andconsumer would be unable to see the instrument panel during daytime. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts. The contact was driving approximately 40 mph, approaching a stop sign when the vehicle jerked and surged forward unexpectedly. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was at stop sign or traffic light. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. Went to jiffy lube to get engine oil changed. On the way home my car started to stall, then shut off. Took it to the gmc cadillac dealer and they stated i needed a new fuel pump, and that there is a leak. I searched online and there is numerous recalls for this exact situation, however my vehicle is not under this recall.
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts.the contact stated while driving 75 mph the vehicle suddenly stalled.the contact was able to pull to the side of the road.the vehicle was towed to a dealer.the dealer stated the fuel sending unit malfunctioned, preventing fuel to reach the engine.the dealer stated the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced and the engine needed to be replaced as well.the contact stated the vehicle was unsafe to drive. Fuel tank showing full tank of gas.driving normally, car suddenly dies, no power to steering or gas pedal.pulled over to side of road, called onstar, police and tow truck summoned to scene.tow truck towed me to nearest cadillac dealership, car left over the weekend.monday morning dealer calls to say fuel pump is defective, and that tank was bone dry, even though gauge was reporting 100% full...this all a result of the fuel pump problem.car only has 6,200 kilometers (about 3,500 miles).fuel pump was replaced, however fuel range still reporting ridiculous values, jumps all over the place, gauge still not accurate, am afraid of losing power and that the gas will run out without my knowing it.
Dt: the contact stated while driving the vehicle it stalled and could not be restarted.the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. The dealer inspected the vehicle and determined the gas tank was defective. The gas tank was bent, and the fuel could not get to the engine. The vehicle was under warranty and was repaired by the dealer. Updated 11/30/2005 -
Several issues with the 2004 cadillac to report.#1 (most significant)the rear seat child seat latch mechanism does not work.i had this inspected by the dealership and then admitted that the design is defective and will not properly latch and hold the belt.any wiggling of the seat will loosen the belt through the latch.the cadi does not have a lock type mechanism where you pull the belt all the way out and then it won't give.they claim the latch mechanism will hold.i drove around for two weeks with a two year old in a four inch slacked car seat.#2 - remaining miles display is defective.i recently ran out of gas when the display read "41 miles remaining".the service department admitted that this is the sixth time they have seen this and that i should us the gauge and not the display.what is the point of the display?very dangerous!i was stranded on the side of the road in a snow storm for over an hour.#3 - bose cd player has errored over 20 times and locks up with an "initializing cd" error.not common to any one cd.cd player will lock up and will be unusable for five minutes to two days.
Strong smell of gasoline leaking from fuel tank when filled over 3/4 tank and sending unit not operating properly with some noticeable hesitation , fuel gauge no longer reports correct amount of fuel in tanksame issue as cadillac cts-v nhtsa campaign number: 14v542000,with the fuel pump sending unit overheating and burning a hole in the unit.
There was a campaign number 14v-542. For cts-v recently not for cts for the same problem.we had no alarm indicating that fuel pump was faulty.after verification at the dealer we were told the fuel pump module melted. They did not understand why the car did not catch on fire.the only indication we had was a strong smell of gasoline. The garage replaced fuel pump module and connection.
While driving in slow traffic, lost power in all electronic components (windows, door locks, air conditioner, dashboard indicator lights).luckily car kept going.drove off freeway and manually unlocked car to get out.car started up normally after that.
Dt*: the contact stated during daylight hours the instrument panel lighting is too dim.this interferes with the contact reading the gauges.the manufacturer determined this is the way the vehicle was designed.update 5/2/2006 - at the maximum setting the light is still not bright enough.
Truck lid slams down. Almost knocked me out.
2004 cadillac cts. The trunk lid fell on my head. I have been having headaches ever since. I probably will go to the doctor to make sure that i did not crack my skull. The lid came down with such a force that was unbelievable!

Rear pinion seal failed and rear axle locked up. Lost control and was involved in accident. Shocked to find out there is a recall for 2005 and newer cts (nhtsa campaign number: 07v589000, gm recall no. 07204) but not my 2004 which has an identical rear main seal. The part number used in the recall is the same to repair my 2004.
Powertrain problem as many others already posted.
While driving for business the rear end started making a growling noise and then it started to cut in and out. Still makes noise and cuts in and out more in turns.
Was driving down the road at 55 mph and all of a sudden we lost drive power. The rpm's revved up to 4 before i could pull over on a busy road jumping two lanes of traffic with my three kids in the car. It was storming the car was running but would not engages in gear. When we got out there was transmission fluid poring and spraying out of the car we quickly knew to turn it off and call for help. When we got the car home we saw that the transmission line came off the radiator. I have seen sense then that this problem is very common and most peoples transmission are shot after this happens. Witch is a $5000 fix. There was no indicators that the part was bad or that the coolant pan was loose in the bottom of the radiator which striped out the nut on the line leavening me and my three kids stranded on the side of the road. Cadillac knew this was a problem so they put out a after market part with a quick disconnect not the screw in part like my car had. I found that out after i called around to have my car fixed.

At about 100k i noticed the axle seals on the rear differential is leaking. There are recalls on this but not based on my vin number. When i noticed this the car was on a lift in the air being inspected by a mechanic.
Have a noise in rear-end when accelerating up to speeds. When letting up on accerlator noise quits, but as soon as i give it gas it hums( like) very loud. Have had two cadillac dealers check it and told not to worry about it nothing is wrong and that , that' is the characteristic of the 2004 cts. This is hard for me to believe since i have had 8 cadillac over the years and have never had a problem of this nature.
2004 cts w/ 89160 miles complete and sudden loss of trans fluid. Had towed to gm dealer and was advised that the trans lines to the radiator were "stripped " and both needed replacing. We bought the car new and this area has never been serviced or touched. Dealer that worked on problem is st.
Dt*: the contact stated the transmission became stuck in reverse while backing out of a parking space.the vehicle excessively increased in speed without warning, spun three times and collided with a parked vehicle.the air bags did not deploy, and both passengers incurred pinched nerve injuries and mild spinal injuries in the collision.a police report was filed.the vehicle was towed to a service dealer where only the body of the vehicle was repaired.since this incident, the vehicle has been exchanged for a different vehicle.updated

1) i took my car in on 3/30 complaining of a leaking rear differential. I was informed nothing was wrong with the vehicle. 4/20 i was driving on the highway at normal speeds. I down shifted and heard a loud bang. The engine revved yet the car wouldn't move. The rear differential had quite literally exploded.2) the housing to the rear differential shattered causing one of the bolts to come out and the remainder of the housing to hang at an angle. The internals of the differential looked as though a grenade had been set off in them. The passenger side rear half shaft was hanging out of the housing.3) i'm currently locked in a fight with my local cadillac dealership. They are trying to refuse warranty.

2004 cadillac cts.the car has made a loud noise in the differential since purchased.the differential was replaced however, the noise and jerking of rearwheels continues.i have returned to the dealer several times only to be told there is nothing wrong with the vehicle.i have replaced the tires three times because the dealer said they were the source of the noise and jerking, but the condition still exists. I have checked the internet and information listed reveals thecadillac cts has a major defect in the drive train however gm has not acknowledged.
I stopped at a stop sign, put vehicle into first gear, began to let off of clutch, heard & felt a very loud bang.rear differential exploded.
Vehicle has excessive wheel hop, causing rear differential failure. I've gone 2 times for differential bushing replacements and 1 rear end replaced. The vehicle has gone through a tsb which was supposed to correct axle wheel hop. Still no fix the vehicle still wheel hops.
I have had numerous problems with my 2004 cadillac cts.the most recent is with my rear differential.the latest problem with the differential prompted an online search with the results showing that each of the problems i have had with my cadillac cts is one that has happened with 1000's of other 2004 cts model cadillacs.

So ill start off with aboutcomplaining to the dealer about my rear end making a moaning whinning sound.i went in more than once to tell them abouthow it keeps getting louder and that i know something is not correct.i am currently selling my car and want it perfect for anyone who buys it.the cadillac dealership keeps telling me that all of this is normal and they do nothing.so let me tell you a little bit about how it all starts.i was at a raceway road course practicing driving one of my race cars for a race that i have coming up.my girlfriend wanted to go around the track a few times to see how it felt so i took her for a little ride in the cadillac nothing more than driving up a windey road.we pack up our stuff and i leave with my girlfriend to meet my folks for dinner. I started driving up a freeway on ramp and hit a little bit of water as i was accelerating then get a little bit of wheel hop and boom!my car suddenly stops in front of a big rig that was on my tail the whole time and i barely have time to move to the side of the road without getting ran over.i trailer my car to the dealership and they tell me my car was abused!i knew about the rear ends and didn't want to deal with the car and all its problems and that is why i didn't want to risk dealing with it.i feel that this is a huge hazard that cadillac seems to just be ignoring.they need to do something before someone gets killed.i keep thinking about it and how it could have been a lot worse for me and my girlfriend.the dealership refused to fix this problem but at least we walked away!now i am scared for whomever i sell this car too.someone from this website needs to do a google on all of the problems we are having because i don't think people know about this website.thanks guys, michael lebard.
Rear differential failure/half driveshaft failure. Rear differential case fracture dand broke inhalf shafts.
Oil leaking from rear diff in 2004. Dealer replaced seal, but leaked again in 2006 and dealer then replaced rear diff. Then in 2007 a seal on the new diff leaked and was replaced. It appears that the rear diff is improperly designed and will continue to fail outside my warranty period. In my opinion, the rear diff is the only design problem with the 2004 cts.
Rear end differential assembly underrated for vehicle.the differential whined up until failure.the differential was replaced under warranty.

The events leading up to this failure were daily normal driving.for the second time in two years, the rear end of my car began to exhibit a whining sound when accelerating in 4th gear, and the sound became progressively louder.the differential on my car was replaced under warranty.
The rear differential in my 2004 cadillac cts-v had been whining and grinding for about 5500 miles (starting when the car had 9000 miles on it).the differential fluid had been changed three (3) times in 4000 miles and the problem was not solved.finally, took the car to the dealership with 14500 miles and cadillac agreed to change replace the differential with the 2006 part.
I purchased the car new on 1/08/05.the car started to make a howling noise after several thousand miles,gm tech's indicated that it was coming from the rear differential.the original rear differential was replaced at 3220 (7/1/05)miles due to internal failure of differential assembly.the howling noise occurred again at 5.565 ( 12/08/05) miles.again, the rear differential was replaced and the repair order noted that it was also leaking differential fluid.i contacted several other owners of the same type of car and they have the exact same problem.i'm concerned that this is a re-occurring problem due toa under rated differential.
This vehicle exibits excessive wheel hop, when under har accleration, the rear suspension carriage assembly hit the frame. The wheels jump up and down violently. Some cars have broken axles or damaged the rear differential. This could also cause loss of control.
Rear differential whine from 45 mph after vehicle has driven at least 5 miles.
I own a 2004 cadillac cts-v. After owning the vehicle for a few months, with approximately 6,000 miles on the car, i began to experience an extreme whining noise from the rear-end of the car. I took the car to the dealership and they said the noise was normal for my vehicle. I continued driving the vehicle and about 5 weeks ago i took my car in for excessive noise coming from the rear of my car. The dealership found that the rear differential unit had excessive play and needed to be replaced under warranty.this concerned me so i did some research. My research found that many, many cts-v owners are having the exact same problem and that my problem was in no way isolated. I also found that the differential unit used in the cts-v is underrated and is not designed to handle the power produced by the engine from the factory.i am concerned that a failure in the near future will cause serious injury to someone if no action is taken.
I just purchased this vehicle and noticed a whine in the rear.took it in to lindsay cadillac (great dealership) and they are now replacing the bearings.i hear this is a common problem with cts-v's and i'm worried about what will happen when the warranty ends....
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts.the contact purchased her vehicle with numerous failures.she stated that the recall repair should have been performed prior to the sale of the vehicle.the contact experienced several issues with the front end suspension, steering wheel shaft, and rear differential.she was informed to take the vehicle to another location because it was under warranty; however, due to the number of failures, the vehicle was not repaired at all.the dealer does not want the contact to trade the vehicle in or take it back.the contact believes that the vehicle is a lemon.the failure mileage was 34,000.
The differential was fine up until the time of casing failure. On a rainy night, the car exhibited a bit of wheel hop inherent on that car with a small amount of throttle. The casing shattered immediately. The differential was promptly replaced by an identical oem replacement.
Rear differential leaking - driver side axel seal will need to be replaced again.was replaced for same issue at about 6k miles now same problem at about 10k miles, i suspect the case is warping.
Powertrain problem as many others already posted.
Premature rear differential failure.apx 5000 miles prior to failure the differential began to whine and during turns, the differential would grind horribly.
Major differential problem on a 2004 cadillac cts-v.really loud "clunk" noise on the car dealers claim it's normal. Differential is underrated for the horsepower that the car outputs therefore causing problems. Gm denies claims on people and consumers are forced to spend over $3000 on a part that is faulty and will break again.
Failure of a second rear differentiali was on the highway doing 55 mph in the center lane when the rear went. The car shut down forcing me to pull to the right in traffic without power. The car had to be towed as it would no longer move.
2004 cadillac cts having problems with rear differential.*mrthe rear differential has been replaced twice.the manufacturerindicated that the loud humming noise coming from the rear diffeential was normal.
Two differential failures in the first year and under 10,000 miles of ownership. Currently on the 3rd differential and it is whining/leaking. Have read several reports of failed differential's causing substantial damage to the vehicle on cts/srx platform vehicles. Cadillac denies there is an issue. Dealership unwilling to accept the defect either.
Rear differential whines.
Manual transmission will not shift into gear has caused many near accidents. Gm claims that this is normal and refuses to fix this. Many people report this issue and gm has not yet addressed this on the cadillac cts-v. It is a very dangerous condition when i cannot shift or get into gear.
Consumer has concern with the safety belt.the safety belt does not utilize a ratcheting style safety belt harness.the consumer had a professional install his child's safety seat but the belt would only hold temporarily.any wiggling of the seat caused inches of slack.
The driver's seatbelt twisted on this '04 caddy cts with 70k miles. The local repair shop told us to take it to the dealer. The dealer wanted hrs of labor guestimated at $170 to take it apart. Isn't it essential that a safety feature holds up. The car is mostly driven by a light weight woman who is very careful. I thought the manufacturer should warranty the seatbelt design longer! this is the first time this is happened in the 20 cars we have owned since seatbelts were standard. Are there any other such complaints?> these front belts come from the top of the seat.
Service airbag light and warning indicator came on when car is started.took to gm certified dealership for service.was advised code b0058- right front pretensioner defective on passenger seat belt buckle.thedealership advised that this part is no longer available from gm and therefore they wouldn't be able to make repairs.also advised that the air bags are disabled and will not deploy.was told to contact gm customer service.after 3 weeks of lengthy telephone conversations, still no help from gm.searched every online website and this part is not available.please advise what if anything can be done to stress the importance of this issue with gm.
Dealership failed to ensure that both front anchor tabs are fully seated in the floor as stated in the recall 03 v 346 000 for the front bucket seat attachment.instead, the dealership instructed the consumer to place the recall letter in the glove compartment.
Problems getting recall repair on anchorage of seats performed.*mr consumer took the vehicle to the dealership twice and to no avail was the work performed. The first time, the consumer was told the vehicle wasn't serviced yet. The second time, the mechanic stood outside the vehicle and stated he research the information and nothing was wrong with her vehicle. The recall letter she received was to be placed in the owner's manual.the recall letter states that the "vehicles have a condition where one or both front anchor tabs for the front seats maynot be engaged in the floor pan reinforecement slots. If the vehicle is in a vehicle crash, the seat(s) could pivot rearward, resulting in possible increased injury to its occupant or a rear seat occupant.*ph
I observed a large puddle of brake fluid around the front left tire. Upon removal of the wheel, i discovered a large brake fluid leak at the interface between the hard brake line going to caliper and the flexible line that goes to the body of the car. During removal, the interface completely failed.this is exactly the failure that was involved in recall:report receipt date: mar 17, 2010nhtsa campaign number: 10v105000component(s): service brakes, hydraulic yet for some reason, this recall was limited to vehicles sold and registered in a certain number of states. This brake line obviously is failing on vehicles registered in other states. The part on my car was within several cycles of complete failure, which would have meant loss of braking and a crash.i have retained the failed part and can provide photos or make it available for analysis.
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was applied. The contact mentioned that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
If you turn to the right at a slow speed to stop or park the brakes gives out. The wipers start and stop at times in the off position.
Pulling out from my driveway in slow speed about 3 mph on reverse turning steering wheel left my radio show message "service brake assistance". Same time i lost the brake, traction control and abs light come on on the dashboard. Lucky this was low speed so car stops on my neighbor trash can. I don't want to think what will happen if the other car will drive by or someone will walk by. I am scare to drive now.
While making a left turn into driveway brake pedal pulsated the service brake assist indicator came on the traction control and abs lights also came on, the car would not stop right then.
Hi ever since i purchased the car when driving at very slow speeds and turning the vehicle the brakes lock up and stop working. When pulling into and out of parking spots or driveways the car makes a loud noise and shakes a little like if the brakes are trying to work but don't. This only has happened about 2-3 times per year since i had the car and since then had many parts replaced but it always seems to come back. I did searches on the computer and found many others with the same problem and read that one dealer replaced a wiring harness and solved the problem where most dealerships have no idea how to fix this issue and many people just replacing parts after part with the same issue coming back. This to me is a very important safety issue since during those times you can not stop the car andis not a safe situation. I also seen people making reports to this website and figured i would do the same since it needs to be addressed and its many people with the same issue. Thank you for your time.
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts. While driving 5 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to stop. In addition, while the vehicle was in reverse, the failure recurred numerous times. The dealer replaced the brakes, but the failure recurred. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v225000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000.
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts. While driving and attempting to park the vehicle, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had to apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal in order to stop. The contact also stated that the liftgate struck the contact in the head several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure could not be diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts. When the contact turned the ignition switch, the traction control and brake warning indicators illuminated. The failure occurred numerous times. The dealer stated that brake fluid leaked into the computer, but the exact cause of the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified about the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 122,000. Updated 11/26/14 updated 10/5/2015
When turning at a low rate of speed the breaking system completely fails.this nearly caused my entire family to end up in the middle of a very busy highway.thankfully we were traveling slow and the emergency break worked.we immediately got home and checked fluid as was well.reading through online complaints there are many people complaining of the exact same thing.i am truly worried this could get someone killed.at the time the breaks failed they stuttered a bit and the break light on the dash came on as well as a tone or alert in the car.please take this seriously before someone gets killed.this just started happening suddenly out of the blue.my daughter had told me her breaks did something strange when backing out of the driveway one morning.then the next day she said it did it again going forward she almost hit the car in front of her.i had her take me for a drive so i could see for myself and i was terrified when it happened.
Noticed puddle on garage floor so moved car out on driveway and found that it was oil on floor.went back to car and there was a wet spot behind wheel on drivers side.moved car back and it was oil. Made decision to go to closest place to have problem checked that i trusted and went to big o tire.by the time i got there brake was going all the way to floor to stop car. The checked and said the rubber brake lines needed to be replaced and they replaced them. Looked up what happened on internet and saw there was a recall for this very problem but, only for states with heave winters.i live in kentucky and there was not recall for my area. I listed speed above at 10 this is what speed i drove after finding problem.
As i make sharp turns while on my brakes, my car makes a noise near the tire area and does not stopand then abs indicator and the traction control indicator lights come on.it usually occurs when i am trying to turn into spaces going 1-2 mph. The only way to stop the car is to get off of the brakes and then press them again several times or to hit an object. I have taken the car to the cadillac dealership in my area and they cannot determine the problem. I have also taken the car to several mechanics that specialize in brakes and have been told that the brakes themselves are fine. Since this problem has started, i have hit a trash can and several curbs.i have tried to get the vehicle fixed, but no mechanic, including cadillac gm mechanics seem to know what's wrong.fortunately, i have not hit any person or any person's property due to this faulty braking system.i have researched and found that other cadillac owners are having similar problems, but cannot find a fix.
When pulling into a parking spot(almost stopped) there is a grinding sound, a vibrating brake peddle and the car doesn't want to stop. This appears to be an intermittent problem that is only happening on right turns and very slow speeds. There are several discussions on line about this type of problem and cadillac dealers being unable or unwilling to diagnose the true problem. Http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0f480a/50.i am going to look into the wire harness issue discussed online myself.
My braking power assist fails occasionally when i am making a hard turn (as when parking), either right or left , but recovers when i straighten out my steering wheel. This began after i replaced my front wheel rotors and brake pads at around120,000 miles. My power assist unit failed completely around 138.000 miles, so i had it and my master brake unit replaced. I continue to experience the same braking problem as before.
This vehicle has an intermittent problem with the brakes, when turning to the right or left like when parking in a driveway or a parking spot, the brake pedal looses pressure and starting kind of shaking like when the abs system engages and the car can't be stopped unless the brake pedal is released and applied very hard again so i can stop the car, it could happen at any given moment, i have asked several gm dealers and nobody is sure what the problem is, they are all guessing and can't guarantee to refund a diagnostic fee to troubleshoot the problem, some have said it is maybe the abs module, the master cylinder, a kinked hose, etc. I went to several forums on line and there are several people complaining with the same issue and nobody has had any acceptable answer from gm or any dealer, they all stated that the were not able to duplicate the problem so that they could not refund the diagnostic fee, i am very concerned about this problem since i feel i am playing a russian roulette with my vehicle, i don't want to get in the situation where somebody can be seriously hurt or killed, i don't want to sell this vehicle either without telling the new owner about this problem and get him into a very serious problem, so i am writing to you to please provide me with some advise to address this extremely serious problem. I don't drive this vehicle very often since the brake problem has happened to me several times and i don't want to gamble with my life or anybody's. Thank you.
My husband was driving home and the brakes went out and he had to pump them to be able to stop. Upon reasearching the campaign number came up. His brake light came and and upon inspecting the brake lines and checking the fluid it was low and the lines appear to be corroded. Cadillac stated there is not active recall.

Shortly after a routine oil change, i was driving at highway speed in suburban minneapolis.when applying the brake to exit the interstate, there was little change in speed and the driver information center displayed braking and stability system errors.i was able to slowly drive back to the dealership i purchased the vehicle at where it was determined the passenger side front brake hose had corroded and ruptured, resulting in the braking failure.i noticed the trim level of my vehicle was not included in a 2010 recall, however the same condition seems to exist in the v-series cts.only one brake line was replaced, leading me to be concerned about the safety of the vehicle in its current state.
I was in the right lane of a highway leading to an off rampat about 35 -40 mph when traffic stopped suddenly. When i jammed on the brakes the pedal went unusually low, the abs also seemed to fail resulting in the brakes locking, car skidding and considerable stopping distance (well over 100ft).i hit the bumper of the car in front of me and slid into a curb. Car wastowed to a dealer who noted that the master cylinder was shot and the brakes were spongy.i've contacted gm but they have not yet responded to my complaint.
My cadillac '04 cts has a brake issue.when turning sharp at low speeds the brakes "disengage" and i lose complete control of the car.it is intermittent and i can't duplicate it at will.it just happens.i have filed a case with gm customer service and am taking to the dealer tomorrow.
Brake failure in cadillac ctsi have a large amount of information in a pdf that explains our experience as well as documents multiple similar experiences from other individuals.how do i send it to you?the brakes are intermittently completely failing at slow speeds and significant injury to a pedestrian seems inevitable.please help!!!
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts.while turning right at any speed with the brakes engaged the vehicle would not stop.the vehicle would not stop until the steering wheel was returned to a straightened position.the failure recurred intermittently while braking and making right turns.the failure recurred more frequently during rainy conditions.during the failures a brake assist light would also illuminate on the dashboard.the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed.the manufacturer was notified and the contact was told the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 10v105000 (service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings).the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 78,000.sm.

The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts. The contact stated that the vehicle would exhibit an air sound when the brakes were applied. In addition, there was an abnormal increase in stopping time and distance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 80,976.
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts-v. The contact stated that there was corrosion on the metal brake line. The contact noticed the corrosion after finding out about recall 10v105000 (service brakes, hydraulic:foundation, hoses, lines/piping). He experienced no failures at this time. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The current mileage was approximately 64,000. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
Car would not stop at low rates of speed on multiple occasions. Have had to throw it into "park" gear to make it stop. Have changed brake sensors on all four wheels, ebscm system, and problem still occurs. "service brake assist" light came on after multiple episodes occurred. Have had it into cadillac dealership on numerous occasions and continue with same problem. Aware this has occurred on many cars of same make/model and year via internet search.
Inquiring about any recalls or problems with 2004 cadillac cts. *phthe consumer would like to be notified of any recalls or general problems related to her 2004 cadillac cts.*mr
While entering a parking place, my brakes failed to engage.the abs system warning appeared and also the traction control warning illuminated, as i struck a restraining post.this could have been tragic if a person had been infront of the vehicle.less than 2 weeks prior to this i had a complete brake service and replacement of all worn equipment.now i am concerned for anyone driving this vehicle or anyone walking in front of this vehicle.i took the car back into my local garage to have the brakes rechecked.they found no problem.my plan was to take the car to the gm dealership where i purchased the car, yet, i find that this is a common problem and gm refused to help others with the same problem.they, others with the same problem, spent lots of money and to no avail.the problem has not been repaired at the dealerships and have left the customers very dissatisfied.
Abs brakes would kick in when attempting to park the vehicle at about 5 mph. The only way i could stop the car was to throw it into park or hit the emergency brake. It was happening about 2 times every month or two. Very randomly. I kept brushing it off until one day i almost hit a person. The abs and tc warning lights would come on the dash and then go away when restarting the vehicle.i then decided to take it to the cadillac dealer and he told me that it was probably the abs sensors. This was onoct. 12, 2010.as it turned out, i had to replace the left front hub bearing assembly at a cost of $659.41. The name of the cadillac dealerwhere i had it repaired is faulkner cadillac, 298 stoke park road, bethlehem,pa..phone # 610-867-4177. My customer on the receipt is #[xxx], and the invoice # is [xxx]. The mileage at that time was 50,590.the repair date was oct. 12, 2010. Since i had it repaired, i haven't had any more problems. I'm sure that i'm not the only one having this problem and i think it should be looked into before someone gets seriously hurt. I realize it would be an expensive recall on gm's part but a necessary one. Thank you, [xxx] phone # [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I own a 2004 cadillac cts with no previous problems except for responding to several recalls.several days ago, i was moving forward into a parking space at about 3 miles/hour.i pressed the brake pedal and suddenly the pedal went almost to the floor and i barely stopped inches from the car in front.i was not stepping on the accelerator at the same time.immediately after the incident the brake pedal felt normal but two loud bursts of air, 2-3 seconds each, occurred.the cadillac dealer finds nothing in computer checks, road tests, and visual inspections and does not know how to fix the problem. The edmunds.com townhall web site contains several reports of exactly the same problem with the cadillac cts.
Sporadic brake failures on a 2004 cadillac cts.car has had front left hub/speed sensor assembly replaced 4 times per authorized dealership recommendation starting at <20k miles.brake failure occurring every few days, typically at low speed but now starting at higher speeds.nearly ran over pedestrian in parking lot.accidents have been avoided thus far.car is with dealership; they say electronic brake control module is to blame.called gm; they refuse to cover cost of repairs even though problem started when car was 19 months old with <20k miles. When applyingbrakespedal would go to the floor resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has been notified.the dealer replaced the master cylinder but the problem still existed.the dealer then bled the system . It appeared that the brakes were improperly bled during factory assembly *nlm
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts. The contact stated that the brakes would not engage when he attempted to slow down. He noticed the failure at low speeds between 5 to 10 mph. He had to shift into park in order to stop the vehicle when the failure occurred. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired when the complaint was filed. The contact called the dealer and was told that the problem could have been caused by the wheel sensors.the contact had not spoken with the manufacturer at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was 47,150. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

1) leaving the parking lot of my employer, turning right onto major highway2) one occurrence.the lower front ball joint separated from the control arm, hence dropping the front right corner onto of the wheel/tire. The nut "backed off" and slowly spun itself off.the nut had no visible "marring" of the metal or showed signs of distress.this is also truefor the lower ball joint.3) vehicle was towed to repair shop, where the parts were replaced and a new nut was applied.although there is a safety recall issued by gm for the 2004 cadillac cts regarding this problems, gm has failed to cure the problem as " it does not fall within the described lot of vehicles per your vin # ". Given the major safety ramifications surrounding the improper function of this part it is irrational to believe that the nut would just "back itself off".
Takata recallws driving the car - i was at a complete stop while attempting to turn in parking lot - then sounded like a pop - the bottom ball joint fell completely out due to screw falling off bottom called several places for partand several wouldn't even give me a quote due to a recall then i call gm dealership in columbia mo and they state vin # are off buy 270i feel like it should be covered due to the fact that it done exactly the same thing other cts
Hello,i have heard reports of the gm recall for power steering in some vehicles. I just wanted to let you guys know you may want to check out cadillac's as well. I have a 04 cts that just recently started doing the exact same thing a few weeks ago. At low speeds the car is very hard to turn and when you turn the steering wheel right or left there is a whine sound. Looks like the power assist pump has gone out.

Back plastic piece that covers my license plate fell off, i have 2004 cadillac cts and i been looking all over and im not the only one with this issue. To replace this piece costs around $1200.00. How many people does this have to happen to before cadillac takes care of this problem. Its a cadillac a piece of plastic on a $40,000 car should not just fall off.

This incident was the first of 5 times that the trunk lid, when completely opened, blew shut on my head.my boyfriend has been hit 2 times. When it's open all the way, it's at an approximate 90 degree angle and the least amount of wind will cause it to blow shut. The trunk lid itself is extremely heavy and i'm fairly strong.i actually have scar tissue on my head from being hit.i didn't seek medical attention but there were a couple of times that i was almost knocked out. I love my car and would get another cadillac cts in a heartbeat if it wasn't for this problem.

As i was driving on the highway, at 60 mph, my sunroof, which was closed, flew off of my car! no warning. No reason to do so. It just flew right off. Thankfully, no-one was hurt and everyone was able to move out of the way. I was driving west on 90 right before the lagrange rd/301 exit in ohio.

The front and back bumper are not the same color as the rest of the car.there are also defects with the overall paint finish - there are dark blotchy spots.the vehicle warranty handbook calls the condition "chemical paint spotting."the new car limited warranty covers the overall paint finish, but the gm representative says that although they are aware of the problem, they will not do any repairs.i was charged $995 [under options installed by manufacturer] for this white diamond paint finish.

If you go here: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0f480ayou will see that our car is not the first cts to have this problem!!!my in-laws purchased a cadillac cts in illinois in 2004.that car needed its front left wheel bearing/speed sensor/hub replaced multiple times.it was replaced on 2/906, 7/10/07, and 12/3/07 in il, and again in ca in 7/08.in 12/07 my in-laws purchased a new car and gave the '04 cts to my husband and i (california residents).since receiving this car, it intermittently displayed a 'service brake assist' warning.because of this, the front left wheel bearing/speed sensor/hub was replaced again at a local ca dealership on 7/30/08.the 'service brake assist' warning has continued to be displayed rarely but intermittently during this time.earlier this spring, i was turning into a parking lot at a slow speed when the brakes did not engage.we took the car directly to the dealership.they recommended that we replace the tires (which we did) and then recommended that we replace the left front wheel bearing/speed sensor/hub again for the 5th time.we were not comfortable with that (obviously it was not fixing the problem) so took it home to investigate. We were not comfortable with the way the car was braking and took it back in last week to the dealership.we were told again that we should replace the left front wheel bearing/speed sensor/hub assembly.we refused asking them to please further investigate why the same part was failing.we called gm directly and they became involved.the dealership called yesterday to tell us that in fact the left front wheel part does not need to be replaced, and that actually the computer that needs replacing.likely this has been the problem all along (ie, that part was replaced 4 times when it has really been a computer issue).the car showed these problems within the first 20k miles.gm refuses to reimburse for 4 unneeded repairs or repair the original lemon computer.

Upon completion of an interstate highway trip at highway speeds, i pulled into my driveway and came to an involuntary dead stop with a loud noise with the rh front end resting on the wheel.the suspension on the ground.the nut retaining the lower ball joint was missing. The rh sides of front end collapsed on r front wheel..2004 cadillac cts.earlier models had factory recall for same loose nut not this model. Front end collapsing on front wheel at high speed is guaranteedcatastrophe. If a nut is relied on to retain ball joint, that nut must be positivelyprevented from loosening by hole thru both nut and bolt, with cotter pin through holes.no such basic safety in evidence.design flaw catalytic cts 2004 and earlier modelsa also suspected.used to be loose lips sink ships -now -loose nuts kill people. Bad bad bad.
Dt*: the contact stated while pulling into the driveway under normal road conditions at 10 mph, the front end of the vehicle collapsed.there was no prior warning before the incident occurred.the vehicle was towed to the dealer who determined the cause of the problem was due to the nut holding the bolt of the lower front ball joints was missing.the vehicle was repaired and no further problems occurred.the contact wrote the manufacturer a letter pertaining to the problem that occurred, and had not received a reply as of yet.updated 10/30/06.
The consumer also stated the abs activated at low speeds, the abs and traction control lights illuminated. Updated ivoq 09/29/10the dealer replaced thewheel bearing assembly. Updated 10/29/10
While driving 40 mph the rear end locked. As a result, the rear end began spinning out of control. The vehicle was taken tot he dealer who replaced the rear because of noise.less than three miles from the dealer the vehicle the consumer heard noise and the rear end locked.as a result the vehicle did three 360 degree turns and finally came to rest in a truck stop parking lot.took car back to dealer and found out that the rear end was out of line from the time of purchased.the tires have been rotated on 2 occasions.this is the third trip back to the dealer for rear end noise.
Failure of a second rear differentiali was on the highway doing 55 mph in the center lane when the rear went. The car shut down forcing me to pull to the right in traffic without power. The car had to be towed as it would no longer move.
Under power the rear suspension rattles up against the floor. It sounds like its falling apart which prompts you to stab the brakes upon hearing it.
The contact owns a 2004 cadillac cts. When the contact turned the ignition switch, the traction control and brake warning indicators illuminated. The failure occurred numerous times. On or about february of 2007, september 2008, june 2008 and march 2010, my 2004 cadillac cts's rpm fluctuated from 1 to 3 at a high speed while driving and while parked.
The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 160,000. The vin was not available.
Brakes go to the floor when turning right. Abs/tc kicks on but car does not stop. Reported to dealer and they said they couldn't fix it because it doesn't happen all of the time. Almost had many accidents and recently avoided hitting pedestrian. Car is sitting until we find out what is wrong with it.
Vehicle goes into theft mode while driving, locking the driver and passengers inside the car.windows cannot be rolled down and doors cannot be unlocked.car stops showing speed, fuel level, etc.in motion on city streets.also happens when parked.
Bought car in 4-2009.first throttle went out within 20 days, replaced by dealer.dealer went bankrupt within a month.second throttle replaced 8-2010, third 2-2011, and fourth throttle went out yesterday (4-4-2011.)one gm dealer refused to make repair, calling car a "problem child."(i.e. Lemon)another said they did not want to, but would replace throttle, but would not handle the warranty.i have called gm at least five times, talking for hours, and they refuse to think this is their problem.i have repeatedly brought up the dangerous situation a throttle going out creates when the car looses power in the middle of a busy street.they just don't care.gm does have a service bulletin out on throttle problems.i have put @ 5,000 miles on the car since purchase in 2009.
Vehicle has twice accelerated forward upon braking when coming to a stop.first time was in a parking lot.vehicle was pulling into parking space, slowed to a crawl with the brakes applied, then suddenly lunged forward, hitting the car parked directly in front of vehicle.no damage occurred, but experience very frightening.second time was returning from doctor appointment.a passenger in the vehicle at the time and experienced the defect.while coming to a stop behind a group of cars at the stop light, brakes applied to slow the car to a crawl, then suddenly the car surges forward.upon slamming brake fully to the floor, the vehicle stopped, missing hitting the car ahead and stopped by only inches.vehicle was taken to dealership, which kept the car over the weekend, supplying a loaner car.called dealership monday afternoon.told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle.it was driven a total of 80 miles over the weekend and the problem was not recreated.the trouble is, it was almost 450 miles between the first problem occurrence and the second one.they were almost one week apart.now i am told by the dealership that since the computer found no defects over the weekend, my car is ready for me to drive.i now have a defective car with a serious safety issue, which i am afraid to drive.i told them i wanted a piece of paper stating the car was free of defects, so when this occurs again, i will be notifying my insurance company and we will take action against this dealership if any damage results from another occurrence of this type.i am also going to request the dealership to allow the computer to stay hooked up to the car for at least a week when i go tomorrow to pick up the car.
2004 cadillac cts.consumer writes in regards to throttle body assembly issues.the consumer stated the throttle was either replaced or serviced six times. Because the vehicle would not go over 45- 50 mph.

If you turn to the right at a slow speed to stop or park the brakes gives out. The wipers start and stop at times in the off position.
When you engage the windshield washer, the wipers continue to run and will not turn off. At times the only way to stop the wipers is to pull the fuse. Other times, simply turning off the ignition and letting the car sit for a few minutes also works.
Dt:2004 cadillac cts-v, a popping soundwas coming from the front windshield, this happenedin any type of weather and at any speed, this was the only problem with the vehicle, consumertook vehicleto the dealership,.

The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle struck an object on the road. The right front rim became damaged, causing the edge of the rim to hit the brake caliper and a brake fluid leak. The contact installed the spare tire and drove the vehicle to his residence. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that they could not offer any assistance. The manufacturer advised the contact to have the vehicle repaired by an authorized dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The current mileage was approximately 52,000.

Two weeks later then the failure occurred on the passenger side rear tire .dealership indicated thisoccurredbecause of the rims.the tires were rotated by this dealership two weeks prior to the incidents.
