While driving air bag light will come on unexpectedly.dealerdid not know what could be causing the light to come on.this happens quite often making the driver nervous.

The air bag deployed without impact while driving at 35 mph.the dealer notified. Prior to the incident, the air bag light had come on.the consumer had gone to two separate service dealers who suggested that it was okay to drive the vehicle until the repairs could be made.the consumer was told that the module coil and wire needed to be replaced along with the entire air bag assembly. The air bag deployed while the consumer was driving and caused the consumer to lose control of the vehicle. *scc

The air bag deployed when i started the car.other than the shock of what happened , i only sustained a scratch on my face as a result of the deployment. The dealer want to charge $800 to repair the air bag which seems unfair due to the apparent defect of the air bag system. I reported this incident after seeing action # ea99-026 with a suject of " inadvertent air bag deployment" in your monthly defect investigation report thinking this incident may be related?thanks.

When turning steering wheel, in any direction, there's a "rubbing" noise from within steering column.mechanic diagnosedthe clockspring was rubbing against some internal wires and if the wires short the air bag may deploy without warning. Ph

Air bag light on instrument panel on. Carried to have checked. Problem located with a module on the drivers side. Carried to someone else to check. Replaced coil, but that didn't correct the problem. Tried to order another part for the air bag. Part was on backorder due to a recall of 1995 buick regal. The same part required to fix my problem with same product code is the same product that has been recalled for the 1995 buick regal. Why hasn't the 1996 buick regal airbag problem been recalled. I have talked to buick air bag hotline. They say it could be a while to get the part because of the recall. Why hasn't the airbag for my car been recalled yet or will it? i see where nhtsa is investigating this already. Action #ea99026 for the 1996 buick regal. Campaign # 00v171000.i wanted to report the problem with my car to further aid in a possible recall. Thank you.

Dual airbags did not deploy upon front end impact, driver lost control, hit telephone pole, speed 25 mph.

On july 17, 2019 at 8:40am, i got into my car in my driveway. I turned the key in the ignition and the airbag exploded. (the car was not started.) the airbag sounded like a shotgun being fired and a powder like substance immediately filled the car. The airbag itself hit me in the abdominal area. I found the door handle, opened the door, and rolled out of the car onto the ground. At this time, i yelled for my son. My son picked me up off the ground and called an ambulance due to me being in a severe amount of pain and in shock. I was taken to the hospital via ambulance and observed for the remainder of the day. I had several follow-up appointments that continue to this day. Insurance came to look at car, filled out paperwork, and said they were going to total the vehicle. The car has not been moved since this incident.

On january 21, 2006 at 7:10 am, while i was driving on u.s. 1, a busy street during rush-hour traffic, my driver side air bag deployed. There was no crash involved nor did my car come into any contact with any object. I didn't even apply the brakes. There was absolutely no reason for the air bag to deploy.when the air bag deployed, it hit me in the face and burned my hand. For about five to seven seconds i did not know what had happened. It was like i heard an explosion and then whoosh, the whole bag was in my face. I was cruising in the middle lane of light traffic, and fortunately, was able to stop, then pull over out of traffic to find out what happened. I then called my local buick dealer and complained to service writer "paul." he told me to get my car to him at my cost next tuesday, and he wanted to charge me for diagnostic. This means ihave to pay for something that was buick's fault -- investigating a defective product. I do not believe this is acceptable customer service.

Consumercranked the engine and driver's side airbag deployed. Vehicle did not have any contact with any object. Airbag explosion caused minor injuries to consumer.

The contact owns a 1996 buick regal. The contact stated that the brake and abs warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent facility for diagnostic testing and failure codes: c1265 (rear abs motor circuit shorted to ground) and c1286 (ebcm/ebtcm failed to illuminate the red brake warning indicator) were located. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (don brown chevrolet, 2244 s kings highway blvd, st. Louis, mo 63110, (314) 282-7887) where it was determined that the codes indicated that there was a rear motor short to the ground and the electric brake control module activated the brake warning indicators. Further diagnostic testing would be performed by the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Failure of both brake lights and turn signals.emergency flashers operate so bulbs and wiring are ok.fuses checked.not repaired yet but was told it probably is a switch/component in the steering column.

While merging onto the freeway, i was taking my car to be smogged. At speed, i noticed a little white puff of smoke emit from the right side of the engine bay. As i proceeded to start moving to the shoulder, this puff had turned into a gray plume. As i finally reached the shoulder, the entire front of the engine bay was billowing black smoke. As i tried to stop, the brake pedal went to the floor, so it seemed the fire had burnt through a brake line. I managed to engage the emergency brake slowly and managed to stop on the shoulder. Opening the hood, i found a small fire burning at the rear of the engine, but in front of the firewall. I had nothing with me, so i called the fire department and it was extinguished. However, by the time they got there, the entire engine compartment was totaled beyond extensive repair.

My car started to not start after being driven and shortly after did not want to start in a simple idle. Somehow fuel has been getting trapped in a pressurized line and i'm having to release the fuel out. Oil leaked into the spark plugs caused a pilot flame. I have read multiple accounts of this happening to that specific make and year as well a few of the other 90 models. Every account says it is a flaw in the engine and fuel system.

I bought a used car in boardman, ohio area and i now have a 1490.00 repair bill after salesman told me it was checked out. They replaced a burned out bulb with another burned out bulb which i can prove. I need help to stop this practice.

Other - oil leak - have been told by independent repair shops that it is either the cam shaft timing sencer or manifold with the costranging from $700.00 to $1200.00.also the motor mounts need to be replaced. Tape player does not eject tape properly, been a problem since i got the car.brakes - have had complete brakes replaced.have been told buick regals are bad on brakes.air conditionung cooling coil in front of raditor has developed a leak.estimated cost to repair is $400.00.have not taken it to dealer.i got the car used in 1997 with about 72500 miles on it.

Anti freeze leaked inside the engine due to faulty intake manifold gaskets which were made of plastic. This happened frequently, even after antifreeze was refilled.fumes from the antifreeze oil mixture were entering the cabin of the vehicle from the engine.

The contact owns a 1996 buick regal.the contact noticed that the vehicle sporadically experienced a no-start condition.there was also a backfire that occurred when the vehicle was started.the upper intake manifold failed prior to the upper intake manifold.the dealer stated that his vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 96v116000 (fuel system, gasoline:fuel injection system).the contact would not assume responsibility for the repair.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure and current mileages were 78,117.updated 02/05/09.*ljcoolant was found in the oil when repairs were made on the manifold. Car broke down 2 days after i bought it, it broke down on the way to the shop.they kept the car for two days to fix it and i received it back.the next morning, the engine light was on, and it continues to be on, dan nelson network refuses to take the car back, and expects full payments on a vehicle that does not run properly

Vehicle back fire through the intake and smoke rolls out from under the hood when trying to start the vehicle, normally start good after sitting over night, but go to start it again it will back fire or the engine idle is very erratic before it will smooth out. I replace spark plug, spark plug wires, cam sensor, pcv valve, fuel filter check battery connection.

While driving 35 mph white smoke emitted from under the hood. The consumer was informed that coolant was in the engine oil and blew out a head gasket. The engine was not cover under the manufacturers recall. Please provide any further information.

Buick regal 1996.engine and engine cooling:cooling system hortly after just 72,000 miles, a leak developed near the upper intake manifold, causing excessive coolant loss (up to 1 gallon per week).i believe this to be a saftey hazard resulting from a design flaw. The owner's manual includes several warnings that coolant contains ethylene glycol that will burn if it comes in contact with hot engine parts. I am also concerned this problem may have caused engine damage that will manifest itself later. I believe gm should address this as a safety hazard before someone is killed or seiously injured by an engine fire.thank you.djs

The engine was not running properly which caused a crack in upper intake manifold forcing excessive coolant into the top end of the engine and upper combustion chamber.this is an on-going problem with the 1996 buick regal.this could have resulted in a fire as indicated by the previous recall notice for the same problem. As a result of this incident, the following service was required:repair electrical failure, clean excessive coolant from upper combustion chambers, remove coolant from top end of engine, replace upper intake assemble and manifold, replace spark plugs, perform injector service, replace the pcv valve, oil and oil filter.although i have an extended warranty, i was still charged $557.17 for the repair.due to the numerous service bulletins, consumer complaints, and previous recall notice for the same situation, this defect should have been detected on march 7, 2002.at that time, i had the routine 60,000 mile service performed even though the car only had 50,480 miles.the total cost for the routine service was $807.00. For these reasons, i should be entitled to a reimbursement of the $557.01 charge.if needed, i will be more than happy to forward a copy of my service records for your review.additionally, i am concerned this recent event has caused damage to the engine and will have long term effects on engine performance requiring additional maintenance.it??s hard to believe this did not cause damage to the valves and/or lifters. Once the extended warranty expires, i will no longer have financial protection for repairs resulting from faulty manufacturing.i hope this safety hazard is resolved before someone is killed by an engine fire.thank you for your assistance in this matter. *nlm

On engine start, loud explosion in engine compartment. Inspection reveled engine cover broken, upper intake manifold (plenum) split in two pieces. Smell of gas, broken vacuumand fuel lines.must replace upper intake manifold, fuel rail, 2 injectors, various lines.old parts are available.

Engine failed going uphill, valve failure, repairman says normal with type of buick.buick knows engine is bad, recalled other engine model for this year.

Bolt in oil pan has stripped and separated fromoil pan. Entire unit has to be replaced.

After having reported a steady burning "engine check light" to the dealer, approximately two weeks prior to engine problem and upon being advised to be sure to tighten gas cap to create the proper vacuum, the light went out and the car ran like a top.upon stopping at the store and hearing a little chug, the engine then rattled, etc. And had no power on start-up and was towed to dealer. The dealer found a broken valve spring in the engine. Much to our consternation when we thought we had purchased a 100,000 mile virtually maintenance free engine, there seems to be no explanation for this occurrence and we wonder if:(1) others have complained of such a problem, (2) this is a defect in the original equipment, and (3) this might be a dealer defect to be corrected by the dealer.

While driving 40 mph vehicle stalled. Then, vehicle restarted without any problem.

Vehicle would not start, it was towed to repair shop sat for about 24 hours, when trying to start it the intake manifold exploded.

Vehicel stalled several times.

Vehicle stalls whendriving,. Once it stalls the vehicle will not restart; have to get it towed. Vehicle stalls at any given speed. Contacted the dealer, and they are aware of the problem.

When applying brakes in wet conditions, the vehicle will stall. Also experiences a power surge ,which could cause an accident.

Burning odor coming from the engine area.

The vehicle experienced an oil leak at the intake manifold, the engine also developed rod bearing and/or wrist pin noise. Nlm

Engine required replacement due to acceleration problems, several repair attempts prior to final diagnosis. Mjs

When the car is driven for a long period of time, it will begin stalling and cut off while driving, and will not restart for about 20 minutes.took to the dealer 3 times for this problem, but they can't duplicate the problem.

While driving 1100 milesalmost a quart of oil will be gone. Oil consumption is very high. Dealer claims this isa normal characterisic. Please provide further information.

While driving the vehicle stalls without prior warning which almost caused an accident.dealer cannot determine problem.

The contact owns a 1996 buick regal le. The contact stated there was an unusual loud explosion immediately after the vehicle was started. She opened the hood to further investigate and was exhumed with thick smoke emitting from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was discovered that the top manifold melted. The mechanic replaced the manifold, injectors, sensor wires, pcv valves, and hoses. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. The approximate current mileage was 130,000.

While attempting to start the vehicle the consumer heard an explosion. A hole was discovered blown through the intake manifold and a crack was discovered a crack in the dust cover.the consumer requested reibursement.*sc

My 1996 buick regal has had two intake manifold gasket failures--one at 52,000 miles, and the most recent, at 111,000 miles.in the first instance, the local buick dealership refunded half my money of the cost of the $607 repairs because they agreed that it was highly unusual for a gasket to fail at such low mileage.my son, who did the most recent repai andr is a materials science engineer, inspected the most recent failure and found several places on the gasket where it was deformed and had let antifreeze escape.his opinion was that it was badly designed, with inferior materials.

After turning the ignition to start the vehicle there was an explosion, the engine was on fire.the fire department was called, and the fire was extinguished.this vehicle was not included in the intake manifold nhtsa recall 96v116000.the egr valve was inoperative and on another occasion the vehicle had to be jump started. *sc

The front seat is extremely uncomfortable at any driving distance.i have checked with multiple dealerships, and this is not a unique problem as many owners experience this problem.the seat design is without significant support.the dealership and manufactuers zone representative have tried a couple of adjustments without success.the seat pain is at a level that after 3 or 4 hours, you just can't drive any further.

Seat belts located on rear side panel for front occupants is dangerous for rear seat passengers, causing passengers to stumble.

Front seat belts located on rear side panel cause head/hair to get caught, also belt tension is very uncomfortable.

Recall 03v527000concerning steering gear bearings.consumer read a newspaper article about the gmc power steering recall.the consumer had not received the notice, but called gmc to get authorization for recall repairs. Vehicle was making noises when starting and when turning, but gmc representative stated it may not be a problem with the steering.theconsumer must pay $90.00 for a diagnostic test.

Upon starting the vehicle there was a noise in the steering column that became worse whensteering the wheel was turned. Themechanic determined that the noise was caused byrack and pinion failure.there was a steering gear bearing recall , but this vehicle was not included due to vin.

There is a severe problem with the steering.we brought the vehicle to a garage and we were told that there is a recall on the vehicle to correct the rack and pinion steering.we called buick and were told that the recall is vin specific and that our vin was not recalled. We were advised by buick that it was just a coincidence that our vehicle was the same year, make and model as the recall and had the same problem and that we would have to pay one of their dealers to look at it.

Consumer was trying to make a left turn onto a street when the steering wheelbecame stiff.this made it hard for the driver to complete the turn. Dealer was contacted, anddealer replaced the pinion bearing. However, that didn't correct the problem.

A recall was issued regarding the rack and pinion steering on our 1996 buick. The problem was supposedly fixed by the previous owner of the car.my 17 year old son was put in serious danger because the 'fix' did not correct the problem. Now buick is telling us that they will not stand behind the obvious problem with their vehicle. The car will not turn to the left. Bucik reps are incompetent and rude.

While making a turn, the steering in my 1996 buick regal became very stiff and would not return to neutral. It has only been two days now that this has happened, but it's dangerous, as it gives no warning. The turn almost put me into a tree! it happened today but i was more aware that it might happen and alert for it. My 1995 century had the same problem and it was that the steering rack gets tight in colder weather and after 75000 miles!

Front driver's side pinion shaft produced a whining noise when driving at any speed. Recall 03v527000 was issued. However the dealer stated that was not the cause of the noise, and charged the consumer for a diagnostic test.

Hard to turn left in my 1996 buick regal, steering went tight. Caused me to hit the curb and over the sidewalk, damaging the 2 front tires, rims, radiator, body and under caridge. The police helped me with aaa to get it home, but not sure if it was reported.* cb

Left hand return went out, my car, a 1996 buick regal, has a bulletin # 03062 issued for this problem and a recall for this part, however on notifying the buick dealership and the 800 # have been told that my vin # isn't included.it is obvious that my car does have this problem and is the correct year.

On 02/02/03, i noticed a large piece of my hood was exposed due to peeling paint.(the gray metal of the car's structure is exposed)the car is a 1996 buick regal purchased in 12/99.i am concerned that the areas surrounding the peeling paint will continue to peel away resulting in no white paint on the hood.upon researching how to repair this, i came upon information that gm had/is having a concealed, latent manufacturing defect. (the photos i viewed showed that i am heading to becoming another victim to gm's paint problems) i contacted buick corporation and was told that the warranty for the repairs had expired.i brought to their attention the discovery rule and that it was impossible for me to know of gm's latent dpaint defect until the paint literally started peeling off of my vehicle.and i still was not aware of a problem until i conducted a search engine on the internet.apparently a story was done by dateline nbc in 11/97 about the issue.(once again, my car was purchase 12/99)the representative repeated that the warranty had expired and ended the conversation.i am angry because i am about to make my final car payment and this issue was never brought to my attention.do i have any recourse?

I purchased my car in 1998 and soon after that the paint started to peel. In about 2000 i finally researched it online and found out to look at my vin number, and if the 11th number was a '1' that it was painted in canada and that they trouble with bad primer up there. A lot of people had sued for a new paint job. Gm closed that plant down. I went to maaco here and was told that since the primer was bad, they would have to strip that all off too, and the whole job was more than i could afford. Also, ever since i've had the car, the brakes have made a horrible noise on stopping, mainly in warm weather. All mechanics think it is very odd and have tried to fix it several times. Two mechanics have actually stopped the noise but it returns promptly. It doesn't seem to impair the braking ability. It's a good old car and now has 93,000 miles without other complaints, but is embarrassing to drive with 1/2 of its paint missing. It looks like a cow.

Experience problems with paint, as a result we can not trade or sell the vehicle unless vehicle is completely painted.*tc

Bought a 1996 buick regal in 1999. The paint has been litterly peeling off the car all over. Is there a recall for this or is there anything i can do for this?

Car paint peeled off in sheets when car was only 3 years old - created dangerous driving conditions, as i witnessed drivers behind me swerving to avoid what was flying off the roof of my car. Manufacturer's defect - certified buick dealership 'fixed' = they caused over $700 in damage! i amnot the only buick owner of that year to have this problem & buick / gm refuses to assist in any way - even after their dealership ruins my car! have 3 certified buick auto body repair quotes, sheet of the bad paint & chunk of rubber window gasket hacked off my car - later found inside vehicle. Buick knows they have a problem & consumers are paying top dollar for defective merchandise (false advertising at the very least). Please help! mr
