Air bag readiness light keeps coming on and off while driving.the dealer wants to replace the air bag system but wants the owner to pay for it.yh
Airbag warning light sporadically comes on whenvehicle is turned on and will not go off. Dealer indicates thatthere's no problem.
The contact owns a 1995 buick park avenue. The contact stated that while in park, the passenger side frontal air bag inadvertently deployed. The air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000. The vin was unavailable.
Upon the vehicle sitting horn sounds off automatically. It sometimes does it intermittently. Tookvehicle to the dealer, and was told that it was being caused by the air bag.
My horn would go off when i would turn a corner or even when unattended. I have a extend warranty which says it covers the horns. When i took it in to be fixed, they said that the part that was bad was in with the air bag and was not covered under the warranty. Now they say that it is the air bag that is bad, so it will cost me $1000.00 to get it fixed. Since my horn does not work ,according to the warenty the horn should be fixed no mater what. Isn't the horn and the air bags considered a safety item?
Shrinkage of horn pad material caused horn to activate on its own and eventually not work at all. Entire horn/airbag assembly had to be replaced, as they are located together.
The contact owns a 1995 buick park avenue. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph the air bag deployed with no warning. The horn was sounding and would not turn off.a tow truck was called and before it arrived the vehicle caught fire and seemed to have started in the steering column. The police were called, extinguished the fire and filed report #10-24586. The tow truck took the vehicle to a storage lot. The contact stated that the vehicle was possibly destroyed. General motors was called.the failure and current mileages were approximately 120,000.
Consumer was involved in a 15 mph frontal collision in whichdriver's and passenger's air bags did not deploycause unnkown.
The vehicle went down in an embankment and hit a tree at 45mph and the airbags did not deploy and the seatbelts did not restrain the occupants.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving at 60 mph, in a hard rain, on an interstate highway, the driver side frontal air bag deployed without warning.the vehicle was safely maneuvered to the side of the highway.the contact was treated for minor abrasions to the face and a police report was filed.the service dealer and manufacturer were notified.updated 10/25/2006 -
Vehicle was involved in a frontal impact at 35-40mph. Upon impact, airbags did not deploy, and shoulder belts separated fromvehicle, resulting in minor injuries. The manufacturer has been notified.
The vehicles air bag was turned off because the vehicle's horn continued to blow.the air bag module and the horn are connected and the dealer told the consumer it would be at her cost to repair the problem.the manufacturer has not been contacted.
My car is leaking radiato coolerrin the passenger seat
At 6:04 a.m. On 4/28/2000, while traveling at 75 mph on muskogee turnpike, the headlights went out on our 95 buick park avenue.this car has twilight sentinel.when pushing the headlamp switch, nothing happened, could not get lights to come on.this car has had mutliple electrical system problems.we were able to pull to side of road and wait for daylight.later, the lights would come on for 3-4 minutes and go back out.dealer says we have to replace the lamp control module.
Electrical system failures causing various components to experience intermittent failure.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle has failed to start on several occasions. There was a clicking sound when the ignition was engaged. While slowing to a stop, with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle stalled and there would not be enough power to restart the engine. There were other electrical problems such as the headlights turning themselves on when the vehicle was parked in a shaded or dark area. The interior lights have been observed going on and off while the vehicle was parked and the ignition was turned off. Inspections were made by the service dealer on several occasions, resulting in the replacement of the following parts: battery (2 times), battery cables, serpentine belt, fuel pump and the water pump.
Battery failed.
Have had 3 electrical failures in last year. After calling road service,#1. 9/3/98 replaced battery,# 2. 02/03/99 cleaned posts and replaced a cable & #3. 11/27/99 replaced battery and cables. Reported problem to buick customer service (file#980140985) but they have not responded other than record my data. Have called twice to follow up.
As consumer depressed the accelerator, the vehicle down shifted and the engine revved and no drive motion was occurring, consumer had to coast to a stop, the vehicle would only go into low gear, no other gears were operative, also a wheel alignment was performed, the front rotors were replaced and a new battery was installed.
While driving at 25 mph the power steering went out , and the power assist belt broke, causing poor steering. Also, the battery failed, and vehicle overheated.
Driving about 30mph when vehicle stalled out. Had no warning. Had no electrical or acceleration power. After checking under hood, found battery cable was loose. Replaced battery cables & vehicle started up. Same problem occurred again.
Alternator failed.
Horn would go off while driving. Dealer was notified and unwilling to assist unlessexpenses go to consumer . Feel free to provide any further information concerning this matter.
Upon the vehicle sitting horn sounds off automatically. It sometimes does it intermittently. Tookvehicle to the dealer, and was told that it was being caused by the air bag.
The horn started sounding all by itself.i stopped it by tapping the steering column.after tapping the horn intermittantly for six miles, the dealer disconnected the right horns as an interim measure,a few days later the left horns were going off at will (stereo horns, guess that's why the park avenue is more expensive).i used a fingernail file to disconnect the clips on the left horns , they were harder to reach.after making an appointment to have the problem resolved i was informed it was going to be $700.00 for parts and aprox $100.00 for labor.the horn assembly tied to airbags"was sensitive"i was told.for that amount i could send the car to a psychiatrist and still come out ahead.should something as important as horns and airbags be tied together at a replacement cost of $800 plus?am i the only one with a psychotic horn?
The horn would go off by itself, so it had to be disconnected. Now vehicle has no horn. Dealer says needs whole new airbag system in order to fix horn.
Hornwill activate unexpectedly whilevehicle is on and off. Dealership has made no repairs tovehicle.please provide any additional information / attachments.
Shrinkage of horn pad material caused horn to activate on its own and eventually not work at all. Entire horn/airbag assembly had to be replaced, as they are located together.

We purchased this vehicle in february of 2012. The body, interior, electrical systems, engine and transmission are in very good condition. The car was sold in great condition and i was told of no major mechanical issues. I performed a carfax on the car and found that the maintenance schedule was followed and for the first 80,000-90,000 plus miles was only driven between 5000-6000 miles per year for the first 14 years of ownership. After purchasing the vehicle and test driving i began to notice a noise and decided to perform a break job and inspect the suspension when i found the subframe crossmember rusted/rotted out on both the driver and passenger side. This part supports the engine and other vital partsin the suspension. Inspection of the rear showed only minor rust. After having the car inspected by a second party i was warned that to drive the car with this rot could lead to an accident and would be dangerous until repaired. The break through of the rusted/rotted area could easily be caused by hitting repeated bumps, large potholes, or by driving over railroad tracks. I was also informed that the rust/rot of the sub member crossframe was abnormal and probably caused by defect in the material/frame, seeing that the rust/rot was most severe in this isolated area with only minor rust elsewhere. Carfax reports list this car in very good condition with no reporting by the buick dealer or there mechanics that performed a majority of the maintenance on this vehicle as having a problem with rot in the subframe crossmember though the problem is present and severe. If it was not for the need of a brake job this defect in quality of workmanship/materials was likely to lead to an accident at some point and cause injury or possibly death.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)i had a 1995 buick park avenue and mine caught on fire exactly as is described in your recallnew recall of buicks- however i did not see mine included in your list and i think it is important that you know this.i was on my way to a restaurant to meet with a client and was fortunately able to pull off the street into a parking lot. Another truck pulled in that had an extinguisher and he put it out before the fire department got there.it was totaled. I had a towed to an auto repair facility where it was junked for parts (i signed the title over to them).[xxx] i do not recall the date - i would have to pull the copy i made of the car title. So i am just putting a guess below so i can submit the form. I can provide a copy of the title, the auto repair company owner name and contact info and vin if you want it ...just call or email.

Make:buickmodel:park avenueyear:1995at start up, there was an explosion. Vehicle caught on fire. If this car was parked next to a home or in a garage this would have drastic consequences. Fire department was immediately called to extinguish the fire, which got pretty large. Home did sustain exterior smoke damage.
The engine shuts off while driving. The dealer replaced the fuel filter and the crank sensor the trouble persists. I plan to return the vehicle to the dealer for further diagnostics and repairs.

Exhaust seal defective, replaced seal.
Fumes are coming into the passenger compartment.plaese provide further details.
I'm filing this report after reading nhtsa action # ea02030, recall campaign # 03v473000. I had a 1995 buick park avenue with the plastic intake manifold. On march 9th 2004 the intake manifold melted around the egr valve. This caused coolant to be sucked down into the engine reulting in irreversable engine damage. I had just had $1000.00 of work done to the car less than a month earlier. I had the intake manifold replaced and the engine flushed with the understanding that this might not work 2 weeks after that the engine bearing spun.due to the age, milage and need of a dependable car ( i commute in excess of 100 miles per day )i ended up selling it for parts.

Headlights and dash lights cut off intermittently.
In september 2001 we began experiencing an intermittent, but extremely dangerous failure of the lighting system.at night, the headlights and interior lights would suddenly go out completely.this happened with the headlights set on the twilight sentinel control and also when we used the manual headlight switch.to get the lights back we had to bring the car to a complete stop, then turn the car off and restart.we live in a rural area where the roads are typically curving with no street lights, making it extremely dangerous to safely bring the car to a stop to the side of the road so you dont block the road for cars coming from behind.i found this same condition reported in an existing nhtsa recall on the 1995 olds 98, which shares the same chassis, headlamp module, and twilight sentinel option. The nhtsa campaign id is 94v190000.we had the car repaired at our local authorized buick dealer and their note on the completed repair order confirmed the condition and cause. They proved that the headlamp modeule was at fault and replaced it.we have contacted both buick customer service and corporate offices, and they are denying that it is a safety defect.
Headlights turned off on a curve road, while meeting oncoming traffic, finally they came back on, problem not found.

The gear shifter does not shift in to the correct selected gears. The prefabrication was not done correctly on the bottom rocker panels, that caused them to rust prematurely. The paint is just peeling off the top and the hood of the car. 8 years after i purchased the vehicle, gm dealer parts became unavailable. I have kept my car in immaculate condition. I have all my service records and receipt's from the day i purchased the car to this very day!!! i still have the car to this day. If there wasn't a recall there should have been. Especially for the gear shifter and rocker panels...???? also the horn pad had a defect with the springs under the horn pad. Gear shifter occurred most of the time while trying to shift the car in to one gear or another. The horn was pad was replaced when i purchased the car. I was driving and no horn. It is a very nice car but who ever help put it together had to be on something??? my 1995 park avenue has always been garage kept. It only has 167,787 miles on it. Never driven in winter until 2014.

Abs failure, when applying the brakes at high speed or emergency stopping situations, the brakes fade and the pedal goes to the floor. This happens on normal road conditions. Vehicle taken to dealer, problem not corrected.
Failure of dealer to give consumer proper instruction on how to use abs system caused driver to misuse brakes.

Steering gear assembly failure; when turning left/right there was a loud popping and grinding noise. Entire steering gear assembly box was replaced.also engine began to surge on its own without touching accelerator.
While backing out of a parking space vehicle made a loud clunking noise and the power steering was lost. Dealer has not seen vehicle.
Power steering system becomes inoperable at speeds below approximately 15 mph. This happens when making slow turns in traffic ,parking etc. The car can not be steered. It is as though the engine has been turned off. It is a safety hazard because the car will not turn, resulting in it going into the other traffic lane. Mountaineer auto mall has replaced everything in the power steering system two times. Two weeks ago they told me they had contacted buick & were told there was nothing they could do. Further, they explained the car was not repairable, and it should not be driven because it is a safety hazard, not only to ourselves but other drivers as well. We need to know how to proceed with buick.
While driving at 30 mpha 2 quarter inch bolt that holds power steering unit sheared off, causing the unit to fall, resulting in loss of control.
While driving out of parking lot heard a loud noise. Opened up hood and power steering unit was not in original position.towed to the dealer, and said that the power steering bolts were broken.resulted in loss of power steering.
The consumer has been experiencing problems with power steering.while driving, their power steering bolt broke, causing the power steering belts to come unloose.the manufacturer has been contacted.the mechanic found that the 2 bolts holing the unit sheared off, due to one bolt not being fully seated, this caused the unit to vibrate and fail.
Bolts connecting power steering unit to engine block broke off inside engine block, causing ps unit to detach and separate from engine, subsequently damaging other engine parts and drive axle.this happenned while driving on interstate highway (25-30 mph) in snow and ice conditions.this made steering very difficult, almost impossible.the unprovoked unwarranted failure of the ps unit mounting bolts breaking off with no warning makes this a serious safety hazard.this incident could have caused serious injuries to other motorist, pedestrians, passengers, and myself.unsuspecting failure of these mounting bolts reflects a serious defect in the engineering, manufacturing, and assembly of these parts.repairing the damage and replacing the broken bolts appears very labor intensive and costly. This condition warrants further investigation and possible recall to replace existing bolts on other power steering units.thank you.
Power steering failure due to the 2 bolts holding power steering unit broke, belt wrapped around parts and consumer was unable to control vehicle.
While driving the vehicle about 40-50 mph, the bolts that hold the power steering unit to the steering pump broke.driver was able to pull over to side of road safely. The vehicle has been repaired.
In late 1999 i began to have problems with the steering at low speeds. It continually got worse untill the power steering would go out completely at speeds below 20mph. The dealership has replaced the entire steering system three times. The dealership has been in contact with buick over the last six months, and they tried everything the buick technical people suggested. However, the problem continues. The car has been taken off of the road because it is unsafe. At this point both buick and the dealership have stated that the car is not repairable, and that they do not know what the problem is. No one from buick has ever come to beckley to look at the vehicle. All of their input has been over the telephone. I and the dealership both feel that whatever the problem is, it most likely is not confined to this one car. The car is a safety hazard because one never knows when the power steering will go out completely.
The bolts that hold the power steering pumpto the motor broke off.the dealer has repaired vehicle.
Power steering pump bolts broke off the engine blockand fell on the axle shaft causeing loose of power abd the belton right side of car . Also damage to the axle shaft . Second time it happened in 2 weeks. Not happy with the results of the problem. Nobody seem to know about the this problemaccording to the service people at buick.service people at buick said that they never heard of this problem. I'm not happy with this problem
Power steering pump failed.
Pull out of service station, power steering bolts broke, causing loss of steering.tt
While driving at30 mph the car lost power steering. I was able to pull to the side of the road. The car was towed to a repair shop, where they found thatthe three bolts holding the power steering pumpbroke off in the engine block. They replaced the bolts at a cost of $275. I had just completed a 1200 mile trip.

Tie rod pinch bolts loose, tightened.
Aug4,2004::15am on my way to work for an early start i was 2 minutes into my drive. I noticed a slight loss of assist from the power steering. The symtoms were typical of a slipping belt or low power steering fluid.from the stop at the corner of hillside and hwy60 i proceeded to turn right, but as i straightened the wheel entering the right lane the steering went tight with a clunk and the steering wheel was freewheeling. Before i could stop i found myself in the left lane staring down a semi coming down the hill. Fortunately he was alert and had enough room to stop. I talked to the driver and suggested backing my car up to the shoulder on the right side (north) of the road. The angle of the tires if they held current position would place me on the shoulder just east of hillside. The semi blocked all traffic from the west and when the east traffic cleared i proceeded. I went about ten feet and then the tires turned and i was sitting 90degree to the road blocking the left lane. At this point all i could do was direct traffic around my car. With the help of two good gentlemen we directed traffic until a tow truck arrived.in the past i have had vehicles with worn parts. Tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints, or idler arm. Failure is incremental over days or weeks. Symptoms of shuttering or pulling indicate the car needs servicing soon. Never has any component just failed with a loss steering. This time was different; the failure was catastrophic. An instant loss of steering as the whole cradle dropped. Furthermore this problem is not new or unheard of. The following web page indicates a recall to cars of similar design as far back as 1988.c:\winnt2\profiles\gfenske\desktop\its not hot in death valley and it doesnt snow hard in buffalo.htmrecall # 00v-189,number cars recalled 713,435front engine cradle bolts pull through corroded retainers & steering shaft separates.
