Speedometer is inaccurate and very sporadic.speedometer needle gets stuck on any number when vehicle is completely stopped and/or turned off.most of the time have to guess how fast or slow the vehicle is actually going.this is a safety hazard.after reading about the same type of complaints from other consumers, i think it's about time gm fixes this problem by initiating a formal recall.my grandparents swore by buick and gm vehicles.i absolutely have my doubts now.if problem is never recalled, i will never purchase a buick or any other gm vehicle in the future.it is not right for this to be ignored with as many common complaints that are filed.

Failure of stepper motors in instrument cluster.

Vehicle speedometer works on and off. Speedometer reads 20 mph when going 60 on hwy. Took vehicle to dealer and they stated that the entire instrument panel would have to be replaced at a cost of 800 plus labor.....vehicle has about 60,000 miles and had 55,000 at time.

Instrument lights on radio, heat/air controls, steering wheel radio/cruise control controls started burning out one by one.thinking that it would be a simple, cheap fix, i took it to the dealer.at that time, they informed me that they could no longer just fix the burned out bulbs, but had to replace the entire electrical module just to fix the light.what was once a $10-$20 fix has now become a $150-$200 fix per module.one module can contain one or two light bulbs, so if you have 6 or 8 burned out bulbs, it can cost you up to $1600 to fix!secondly, around september 2010, the rpm gauge pegged out and then dropped to the six o'clock position.ever since then, sometimes it works erratically and sometimes not at all.then, about january 2011, my fuel gauge started doing the same thing.when my tank was full, it would read empty or half full.after re-starting my car, it would go back to normal, only to act funny the next time i started the car.i noticed that there was a recall on other gm cars that used the same defective stepper motors that are installed in the 2002-2005 buick lesabres, but for some reason, the lesabres were not included in the recall where gm was responsible for the replacement cost on the instrument cluster. This isn't right!with faulty instrument panels, it isn't safe to drive!and if you want to get it replaced,it will cost you around $800-900!!!!

Started out as a headlamp that we thought was burned out.replaced the bulb and it worked for a day or two.next the gas gauge, speedometer, heat and cooling gauge and now both headlamps do not work.my husband has to drive in the dark with brights on because there are absolutely no headlights .this is a serious safety issue and gm should be issuing a recall.this is extremely dangerous and we cannot drive our vehicle at night unless we use our brights the whole time which then becomes a safety issue to other drivers.this is as serious as seat belts failing or windshield wipers out of whack.please respond to this with quick and serious measures.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lesabre.when the contact starts the vehicle, the instrument panel gauges become hot.the dealer stated that the entire instrument panel needed to be replaced at a cost of over $600.in addition, one of the gauges is not registering the correct information.the failure mileage was 60,000.

Originally when the issue happened at random times with the speedometer readingin inaccurately.now it has fallen to the 6 o'clock position and never moves from that position.i have never had it repaired was told by dealers that the part was the instrument cluster and it would need to be replaced.issue started at around 86000 miles (random readings) around 91000 speedometer (fallen to 6 o' clock position.

The speedometer in my 2005 buick le sabre intermittently read false speed readings for 2000 miles after 55,000 miles of use.it failed completely at 57,000 miles and does not register speed at all and is flat-lined on 0.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)2005 buick la sabre, 65,500 miles, suffered a premature failure of both front wheel bearings. Failure discovered while car was being serviced (ie. Oil/filter change & front end alignment.) replaced at a cost of $600.00.reported to gm customer assistanceon 1/26/2010, and verballycalled back on 2/2/2010, gm denied anything wrong with such failure, and said car was beyond 36,000 mile warranty.later appealed in writing to buick gen. Mgr. Last contacted, again verbally, on 2/26/2010, senior asst. To exec., who also denied claim for reimbursement, saying the mileage did not matter, but since the car was not examined by a qualified gm mechanic and dealership, they could not do anything about it. (the implication being that my mechanic, who has serviced my vehicles for over 10 years, was incompetent, or crooked, and could not be trusted to make a valid determination regarding the state, and cause, of the bearing failures).you should be advised that i repeatedly requested a written response to my inquiries, and was consistently refused.it is obvious that gm has a problem with their newer cars non-serviceable parts, and they are trying to maintain deniabilty as to this problem!in my case, nothing happened, and no one was injured, however, had i not serviced my car regularly, and these bearings had failed at road speed, there could easily been a head-on crash, with damage, injury, or death involved to myself, my car, and or other vehicles and people! [xxx]the consumer stated on june 29, 2010, upon engine start, the driver information center displayed sounded the alarm chime several times and turned on the red oil warning light. The oil information display showed oil pressure normal. After doing some testing, the consumer concluded that the oil pressure sending unit was bad which he replaced and everything appeared to be functioning normally. Updated ivoq 08/05/10

The lights on the heater control quit working making it hard to see at night.

My headlights would not come on or would go off intermittently while driving .i had to drive with the high beams on.a preliminary recall notice came to me telling me to drive with the high beams on, until they figured out the issue.after about 6 to 9 months they issued a recall.they indicated it was a "module", i took the car in to have the module replaced.it did not fix the problem.i took it back in and talked to the service manager.he investigated the issue and said that the module was not making contact with connections inside the module / fuse box.he said it was a box issue and wanted to charge me $500 for a new box.please note, no damage or tampering has ever done on said box. This did not make sense to me.he said he was sorry and tried to give me a "break" on the price.i did not design the box, i just own the car with the lights that do not work unless you put on the high beams.seems like a safety issue to me.

The headlights just stopped working.it is not the bulb as the lights come on when i lock or unlock the car using the fob. I was driving down the road and the headlights just stopped working, this was in the middle of the night with no street lights.i just had the car in the shop two months ago for the same problem.there has to be an issue with the car and the headlights.i love this car but i can't drive at night as i have no lights and can't keep taking it to the shop and paying out money every couple of months to fix the same problem.

The first incident was around 40,000 miles.the gas gauge would not work, after filling it up the gauge would "stick" or the hand would drop down to the thermostat needle.very erratic.carried it to the dealer and naturally, everything appeared to be working.52,000 miles and the gauge is dead - of course the warranty was out also.it was explained that i would have to replace the entire cluster of gauges and i could not afford that at the time.car now has 79,000 miles, i have been using the odometer so i will know when i need gas.a few weeks ago, looked at the speedometer and it read my speed as 120 mph.i immediately pulled over and at a dead stop, the speedometer was setting on 60 mph.now i am concerned about the entire cluster readings.the thermostat will jump up to the red, hot reading which is wrong.now i am going to be out huge dollars that appears to be something gm should repair.

Needles on fuel gauge goes all the way around and points vertical.needle crashes into the thermometer needle that also points vertical.does not correctly register fuel or temperature.i am depending on my odometer to guess at my fuel levels.this seems to have started after my "loose gas cap" alarm came on.i had cap replaced 2 times, light will not go off.this, of course makes the service vehicle soon light stay on.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lesabre. The contact stated the fuel gauge would inaccurately show that the fuel tank was full at all times. After he would refuel, the fuel gauge would not move. The manufacturer was contacted who referred the contact to a local dealer for repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 75,867. Updated 06/17/11 updated 06/27/11

The contact owns a 2005 buick lesabre. The contact stated that while exiting a parking space, the accelerator pedal became extremely resistant and the contact experienced difficulty in depressing the accelerator. In addition, the contact stated that the interior lights would sporadically flicker on and off while driving. The contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer or a mechanic for inspection or repairs. The failure mileage was 150,000.

The transmission rarely slips causing a dangerous situation. I must pull over shift off the vehicle and start it again.

Took vehicle with 55,100 miles to the authorized gm dealer after shuttering and barely beginning to move while driving in traffic. The authorized gm dealer stated "inspected, no codes in system, erratic shift points, delay shift thru 1st and 2nd gear, no 3rd gear, goes to 4th gear. Recommends srta trans (3yr/100,000 warranty) $3782.64."

At approximately 24,000 miles i started feeling a harder than normal shift between second and third gears.by the time the odometer reached 26,000 miles the shift was somewhat severe with a pause between second and third.i took the car to the local dealer who supposedly installed some type of "kit" which did not eliminate but greatly reduced the problem.i now have 37,000 miles on the car and the problem is gettingprogressively worse once again as well as hard shifting between first and second and sometimes when i shift from drive to reverse while the car is not moving.i have not returned to the dealer because i am now 1000 miles over the warranty and the first time i took it in the dealer told me the repair would take one day and kept it nine days.i emailed buick with a complaint but got no reply.

Dt:consumer stopped on an incline waiting on a traffic light and discovered when removing foot off thebrakes vehicle rolled back.consumer put vehicle in first and secondgears and it still rolled back.this only occurred on inclines.had not been to dealer, no repairs were done. .called dealer service department, and they said there was nothing they could do. Consumer used onstar and the diagnostic module and they foundthat nothing was wrong with the engine, and instructedconsumer to call dealership.had not contacted manufacturer.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lesabre.while driving between 45-50 mph, the vehicle shook excessively.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle was taken to an independent transmission shop and the technician stated that the failure was contributed to the inner wear in the transmission.the vehicle was repaired.the failure mileage was 84,892 and current mileage was 86,000.updated 8/28/09 updated 09/09/09

The contact owns a 2005 buick lesabre.while driving 30 mph, the contact heard a loud noise coming from the engine compartment.the engine then stopped running.the contact attempted to restart the vehicle and placed the gears in the correct position, but the vehicle would not move.the vehicle was towed to a shop and they could not figure out what was wrong with the vehicle.the vehicle was then towed to a dealer and they stated that the transmission needed to be replaced.the transmission is currently being replaced.through online research, the contact discovered numerous complaints on this defect and believes it should be recalled. The current and failure mileages were 48,000. Updated 09/16/08 updated 09/24/08.

(1) started as intermittent problem when engine was cold and car was stationary - stepping on accelerator resulted in no motion followed by car lurching/jerking into first gear; the problem became more repeatable over a three year time period; just prior to failure, the car would shake and make noise when accelerating from a stop and when coming to a stop; at failure, the car would not move (forward or in reverse)(2) complete failure of automatic transmission - surprising because auto only had 22,300 miles on it when the transmission failed(3) replaced transmission

2005 buick lesabre's brakes failed. The brake pedal was dangling useless.

2005 buick lesabre with 42,330 miles went into the repair shop to have the brakes replaced.once the brakes were replaced, the mechanic took the car from the repair bay onto the parking lot to check the integrity of the brakes.the mechanic applied a hard braking when the brake pedal went to the floor.upon inspection of the brake system, it was found that the brake line which goes across the rear of the car from wheel to wheel had rusted through and caused the brake fluid to leak.this brake line was replaced with a new one from wheel to wheel.the system was then bled and brake fluid replaced.the car was checked again and was found to be drivable.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 50 mph down a steep hill under normal road conditions, the hydraulic brakes failed and the vehicle crashed into a lake.there was no warning prior to the incident.the contact and a passenger sustained minor injuries.the vehicle was towed to the insurance company, who could not find the cause for the brake failures and deemed the vehicle totaled.odi #10160493 can be used in comparison to this issue.

3/17/2005 traveled to myrtle beach, sc mostly on i-95. On the way i experienced periods of rain. The first time i noticed a problem was during rain when another vehicle caused me apply my brakes in an emergency situation. When i applied foot pressure in the normal manner the brakes did not respond properly, instead of slowing down immediately, i discovered i needed to apply at least 2-3 times more pressure (if not more) to get the brakes to slow the vehicle. I encountered this problem for the remainder of the trip whenever i was in wet conditions. I did not experience on dry roads at any speed, and i was driving at speeds of up to 75 mph. 3/23/2005 returned to harrisburg, pa. Experienced rain from the south carolina/north carolina border all the way home (approximately 520 miles). The rain varied in intensity from a light drizzle to a down-pour. The brakes continued to not slow the car in the normal way (my top speeds varied from 55 to 75 mph). I continued to have to apply excessive foot pressure to slow the vehicle or even get it to respond.when i applied the brake the response was very similar to driving a car from the 40's or 50's equipped with brake shoes that has been driven through a large puddle of water and the brake shoes needed to be dried by applying the brake pedal to dry them before they would take hold again. At one point i thought the floor mat might be the culprit and interfering with the operation of the brake pedal, but the mat was nowhere near the brake pedal.i took the car to the dealer, but the day i was able to do this there wasn't any rain and the problem could not be duplicated. When we receive heavy rain again i will be going back to the dealer.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 20 mph the brakes suddenly failed.there were no warning lights prior to the incident.the brake pedal was hanging loose and was inoperable.the vehicle was towed to a dealership.the rod connecting the brake pedal to the master cylinder was misaligned.the dealership determined this happened at the factory and informed the contact they had never seen anything like it.the service dealer repaired the vehicle by replacing several unknown brake components. Iown a 2005 buick lesabre. While driving 60 mph or greater, the front wheels, steering wheel and the floor boardsshake and vibrate. Took to dealer at 415 miles and they said to return when car had 500 miles. At 1292 miles dear replaced steering shaft. The dealer replacedtires.; however, the failure continued to occur. I took the vehicle to back to 2nddealer and they stated that the vehicle had to be forced balanced and have wheel alignment. The dealer made the repair ($400.00); however, the failure continued to occur.as ofmay28, 2005 the dealer had not repaired the vehicle and said it was an inherent problem. The current mileage was 11,081 and failure started from time car was purchased.

The transmission rarely slips causing a dangerous situation. I must pull over shift off the vehicle and start it again.

Dad bought a new 2005 buick lesabre in oct. 2005. He had an accident feb. 18 this accident was not his fault a car backed out of his driveway and hit his as he was driving by. Now he has turned it into his insurance and person to repair. Insurance ok car to be fixed february 21, auto body turned in for parts same day or next.connot find rear panel door. Gm said it may take a while to find. So my dad has been driving around in a damaged car which gm won't give him a car to drive "even though it is their fault that he can't get this part" the fender is rubbing against the tire when it turns corners the bells are ringing because doors are jammed and damaged. Now he is 77 and drives church members to doctors and to get groceries etc. What is wrong with our country that a gm dealer would put a senior in this position or for that matter anyone in this country in this kind of position and not give them a loaner until there part came in to repair this car..........!!!!!!!!!! we have made a complaint with gm and also to a dealership in ny which he was really nice but also said he couldn't help because he was just a dealership in ny "my mistake" thought it was the big guy. So how does one get a car fixed or make a company such as gm give a person a loaner while waiting for his part to come in.his representation person hasn't even called him back after his complaint which he did call the number in the back of his car manual.. So people, don't buy a buick lesabre because if you do and you have an accident they don't have the parts for it and you drive a piece of junk around that is dangerous waiting for the part. What a safety hazard this is.....if something happens to my dad all hell will break loose.

A switch labeled "eng/met" located right next to the headlight switch causes the speedometer read approximately double your actual speed. It is very easy to accidentally press this switch when turning on your lights, which is what happened to me the first day i drove this rental car.
