Driving north on avon rd, plainfield in, both air bags deployed for no reason.it blew the drivers hands off the wheel going 45 miles per hour. Did not crash.the passenger has bruises on leg.it happened early evening, still light outside, good weather. No warning what so ever.

Re: accident may, 27, 2014, ncic 9245, officer id 17604the above accident was caused by a mechanical failure of the buick le sabre, 1999, license # [xxx]. Not driver error. Leaving highway 193 turning onto hwy 49, (going toward auburn) being a 2 lane narrow winding road, the engine of the above vehicle died, locked up the steering, and had no brakes. I was unable to stop or control the car. This was the first time there was a loss of brakes. In trying to control the car it caused me to veer off the road to the right hand side. Upon leaving the road and crashing the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle has had this problem before verified by witnesses with the exception of the loss of brakes.passenger in car on trip from fresno to auburn, in march of 2013, (mechanical failure of car engine, died, no steering), this happened twice, on same day. I was sitting at a red light when my air bag from the steering column deployed in my face. I did not hit anything. It was on or about 1/25/18. About a week prior to this event my horn began to steadily blow inexplicably. I did not have any reason to suspect anything other than a malfunctioning horn so i disconnected the wires to the horn. When the air bag deployed about a week later i concluded the air bag was inflating inside the steering wheel applying pressure to the horn sensor. I took it to the dealer who, after weeks of investigation, concluded they could not do anything to repair it and suggested i call general motors customer assist center.after reviewing pictures, (no one actually physically looked at it) gm decided corrosion to the sensing module caused the problem. I contend they have a defective valve which overtime began leaking gas into the air bag, hence the issue with the blowing horn.

Passenger side air bag is not available for replacement through the manufacturer. Yh

Vehicle being reported owned by avis corporation. Driver/patient was operating a buick la sabre, rented from avis. Driver states he was approaching intersection, during a light rain storm, and was unable to stop or control the buick. The buick contact a mid 80's nissan pickup truck which was in the intersection. The buick appears to have contact the front left tired, riding up onto the left fender and hood of the pickup. The pickup body had moderate damage suggestive of contact speed between 10-20 mph. Body damage to the buick appears to be primarily on the left side. The left fender had minimum damage. The front bumper and undercarriage appeared to have moderate damage. All the transmission oil from the transaxle was released onto the pavement do to damage to the transaxle housing. . both drivers were wearing lap/shoulder harnesses and did not report any injuries. The airbags on the buick la sabre did not deploy. The driver of the buickwas sitting well back from the steering wheel and also had a correctly adjusted head restraint. Given the apparently volicity of the buick i am unclear why the air bags did not deploy.

Vehicle was involved in a a 40 mph frontal collision in whichdriver and passenger air bags did not deploy, cause has not been determined.please give any further details.

Air bag design flaw - a life threatening design flaw.i am the original owner of a 1999 buick lesabre custom (purchased at the end of the model year). The car often spends time in the bright florida sun. Although i use a reflective windshield sun screen, the car still gets hot inside (as do most florida cars). Recently, the horn began to honk continuously. I took it into the orange buick and gmc dealer in orlando fl.the problem is that the air bag has swolen up and compressed the horn relay. The air bag is broken and needs to be replaced.this is apparently a flawed air bag design, which must also endange people with this steering wheel/air bag design, living throughout the hot southern united states. The cost to replace the poorly designed air bag (with another one having the same poor design) is over $700 (difficult for me to do since i recently lost my job, which has moved off shore to india).it seems that the buick manufacturer should be required to correct their life-threatening flawed air bag design.i hope to hear back from the d.o.t. About this life-threatening safety issue.

The company/manufacturer failed to replace the passenger side air bag after the driver was involved in a mishap. Yh

1999 buick lesabre.consumer writes in regards to defective ignition switch- anti theft wiring issues.the consumer stated the ignition switch had to be replaced. An examination revealed that one of the anti-theft wires was broken and the second wire had the protective insulation coating cracked through to the copper wire. It appeared that rotation of the cylinder had chafed over time and compromised the integrity of both wires and the cause the security dash light to illuminate and the vehicle not to start.

In dec 2010 i turned on my rear window defroster on my 1999 buick lesabre. It did not work. After checking repair options in the auto manuals and on line, i still could not get it working. When my son came in for the holidays, we decided to check the wires at the rear window. We discovered a square unit attached to the body under the roof panel. This unit had an entry plug which was burned and an outlet plug leading to the grids on the rear window. It also had the radio antenna leading into it. The unit and the entry plug were burned. My wife and i both smelled something like a electrical at one time but did not know where it came from. What i am asking is that: could this unit cause a fire or be subject to a recall? i know it is in other gm cars as well as our buick. The part in question is gm 25623688. I have since replaced myunit and repaired the wiring. Thank you for your consideration!

Battery went down when clock left on because ignition was loose or faulty. So now i make sure clock is off when i shut it down.car started up fine - drove it 6 miles - came back out to start it after an hour and nothing-no sound nothing-about 20 minutes later i tried it again and it started right up.there has been a grinding sound n cassette player with no cassette in it at one time.dash lights lit up while driving so automatically thought there is short in dash board.second time i put key in and nothing happened-no sound-nothing, when it finally decided to start this time i took to auto zone.first they said battery, but battery is pretty new, then another man said alternator.got alternator from shop that rebuilds alternators and they don't think it is alternator.rear defroster doesn't work and for some reason i think short or problem could be here, but not sure.i've driven it many times with dash lights on, knowing that nothing is wrong with car.oil is good, cooling good, transmission good.it has to be an electrical problem.alternator belt is not loose.todate, the problem has not been fixed. I even thought it was key, so got second key and tried it - not the key.

The event leading to the incident involved turning on the rear defroster. After turning on the rear defroster i smelt smoke and burnt electronics. The rear window would not defrost. I turned the car off and pulled off the panel near the wire running to the rear windshield and discovered the "power radio amplifier" had melted and caught fire, resulting in burns to the panel and complete loss of radio and rear defroster. This of course made it impossible to defrost the rear windshield. A replacement part was bought and installed by myself (the wiring harnesses and cables needed to be repaired due to severe burning as well). I still own the old burnt part.

In approx 2010 my buick lesabre had issues starting and would occasionally stop operating during travel. All ignition functions would cease to work. Towed to buick dealership to resolve and replaced ignition switch. This year a similar action happened where the car would not start. Again at the dealership the ignition switch was replaced.is this ignition switch issue included in the gm recall?

Traveling about 65 - 70 mph i noticed my speedometer went 'wacky', meaning it went down to 0 - 20 mph and back up again to the speed i was traveling.nothing else happened.the next time, maybe a week to a couple weeks later it did i it again, only i heard the doors unlock and it had died.since then it has been happening more frequently.i have always been able to start it right back up.i can be out on the highway or in town.i usually put it into neutral, start it and keep going. It has happened as many times as 3 times a day, or it won't die for3-4 days.i did have one especially dangerous situation with a semi-trailer truck behind me on the highway when the vehicle just died.

The owner went out to the vehicle to leave and the vehicle would not start.he then contacted the auto club and they came out and attached jumper cables.when the owner turned the ignition as instructed by the mechanic he immediately heard a "bang" followed bya fire.please provide any additional information.

Consumer bought new buick, lasabra in 1999, within 4 years of ownership, batterydied andwas replaced twice. Average battery life was 5 years or 60 months.

Dealership informed the consumer that battery cables were not getting enough charge to start the vehicle.dealershiprepaired the problem.the vehicle quit running after shimmying all over the road. *sc

Horn sounds when vehicle steering wheel is being turned to the right. Vehicle begins to vibrate at 65 mph. When vehicle has been driven at least 5 miles, the transmission seems to lock up or remain in high gear and gives the driver the impression that the vehicle is stalling. Several times the vehicle, failed to locate the correct gear, resulting in a near miss collision with another vehicle that was approaching the intersection.

Horn ble wout intermittently. Tookvehicle to dealer, and they stated that driver's side airbag needed replacement.please provide any further information.

Failure of car to start when ignition key turned. Still had lights & dashboard.this occured 9:00 at night and could have left me stranded. As it was, i had been with a group of folks and someone waited to follow me.next day mechanic towed car to shop, unable to fix because he not set up for diagnostics. Referred me the gm dealer.dealer determined theft deterrant module shot. Once fixed, two days later, security light showing on dash.now we need a new key lock ignition cylander switch and key.my complaint is this could have been a situation where i could have been locked inside my car without a way to get out!this, in my mind, is a serious safety issue.these parts need to be recalled!i take good care of my car and it is not old.therefore i see no good reason for these parts to fail.my bill will be approximately $700.00 per the garage estimate.i purchased an extended waranty, but these parts not covered, naturally.i guess they weren't expected to fail.(mileage i submitted is an estimate and i do not know what oem means, so i let it default to no.)

After coming to a complete stop or when making a very slow turn, vehicle will stall.dealer has inspected vehiclenumerous times overlast year, andreplaced computer. However it did not remedydefect. Occurs intermittently.when the driver was in line of heavy traffic waiting to make a left turn at a very busy intersection and the engine quit in the midst of the turn.

While traveling 35mphvehicle stalls for no reason under variable conditions. This incident had occurred several times, and has resulted in accidents.

Consumer's vehicle was towed to a dealer for a new starter assembly. While themechanic was inspecting the vehicle the intake manifold exploded. The mechanic sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. The cause has not been determined at this time. When the new started was being tested the manifold blew up.

Consumer was pulling into a parking lot when she heard a loud boom. Then flames came from beneath the vehicle, said a witness.consumer got out and vehicle caught on fire. In june the consumer received a recall notice which explained the failure that she experienced several months earlier.

When driving suspension is rough.whenappling pressurevehicle shakes. Dealership is aware of problem.dealer refuses to replace the shocks.air conditioner leak, dealer replaced compressor shaft seal.pressure ocntrol solenoid replaced, consumer stated when shifting into reverse or drive, there is a shudder felt at times, dealer replaced the turbine shaft seal because it was worn and again the vehicle jumps when putting into gear as if gear is not engaging, dealer can not remedy this problem.engine light has illuminated.front rotors warped causing vibration.turn signals inoperable, dealer found wire out of terminal.

Upon starting the vehicle there was a loud bang, then the vehicle caught on fire. The fire department was called.

When i started the engine in the morning, there was a loud bang, followed by smoke coming from under the hood.i opened the hood, and there was a fire coming from the engine.

The vehicle caught on fire under the hood.

Possible computer problems caused oil pressure gauge light to illuminate, loss of power and caused the vehicle to stall. *nlm

My car is a 1999 buick la sabre with a 3.8l engine. July/20/2012 my car had 80,000 miles on it when my engine started to miss. When i got it looked at by my friend i was told there was coolant in the cylinders. The engine had problems with the intake plenum leaking coolant, because of the egr system. He then fixed the car. On november 20, 2014 my engine had 138,000 miles when it overheated on the highway. I found no coolant in the reservoir with coolant in the oil. When my friend looked at my car he said it was the plenum again, but this time the coolant in the oil may have wiped the main bearings. The overheating may have also warped the cylinder heads. He told me at the least there was damage done to the bearings. Being upset i looked online for information to find that this problem is common with that engine. Also that gm didn't acknowledge the problem. Has gm finally admitted to faulty manufacturing? even if my car is fixed i no longer feel safe driving it. It may leave me on the road in winter someday with my young son. Or worse, stalling on the highway with loss of power steering. Can someone please help? i am a single mother going to college and money is tight.

This concerns a defective design of the intake manifold used by gm on 1998, 1999, 2000, and some 2001 buick lesabre's equipped with the 3800 series ii v6 engine. Following the failure and resultant hydraulic engine lock of a neighbor's 1999 buick lesabre with approximately 80,000 miles on the odometer, i visited our local buick dealer (lee chevorlet/buick - washington, nc) to discuss what appears from research done via the internet to be a frequently encountered problem on these vehicles so equipped. It seems that a failure of the intake manifold is a very common problem on vehicles with about 80k miles on them, my wife drives such a vehicle - a buick lesabre limited purchased from lee chevorlet, washington, nc on 2/24/99 it currently has 78,000 miles on the odometer.the dealership owner, and the service manager freely revealed that this is a serious and chronic problem with these vehicles and is the direct result of a poorly designed part used on them. They are prone to failure at about the 80k mile point which results from an internal (not apparent) failure due to materials degradation. The result is very frequently the discharge of engine coolant into the cylinder(s) resulting in a hydraulic lock up with frequently disastrous results involving not only an engine seizure while in operation but also associated significant engine parts damage. Their recommendation for a remedy to handle this dangerous situation is to have the involved parts (top and bottom intake manifolds) replaced with "the gm replacement design resulting from the problem. These vehicles are all +/- 10 years old and have outlived their original 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. They indicated that the only way to perhaps get gm to participate in a remediation of this problem is to speak with the customer assistance group which i did yesterday. They deny existence of the problem and will provide no assistance in the $800-900 repair. Failure of this part in operation could be fatal.

Simple facts when rear ended the seats on 1999 buick lesabre broke back sending in back seat, seat belt nearly killed me , and the jack placed on the right wing flew in the front seat...... Then in 2002 the car caused a major explosion nearly killing me with a flying buick sign caught on fire the tires .....etc problem ....intake manifold the car only had little mileage and yes was well maintained

While driving the vehicle stalled. The driver pulled over and turned the vehicle off, but was unable to restart it. Vehicle was then towed to the dealership, but the mechanic determined that the problem couldnot be duplicated.vehicle would stall while driving at any speed.the fuel pressure regulator was replaced under recall 03054 and the ignition control module was also replace but neither of these repairs corrected the problem.

Car was getting harder to start each time-red light (overheating) came on while on a trip-added 4 + qts of water-drove 15 miles-car would not start--added 3 + qts of water--tried several things to try to start--noticed oil level was up--assumed coolant went into engine-removed 3 front spark plugs--coolant ran out of spark plug openings-car was towed 60 miles-intake manifold (warped), gaskets, & thermostat were replaced-starter replaced due to broken housing (from attempting to start water logged engine)-total expense approx $ 1,000

The vehicle's engine blew while the consumer was slowing for a stop light.the vehicle displayed a hard start and was missing.the coil pack was replaced.the intake plentum leaked water into the cylinders. *sc

1999 buick lesabre v6 3.8l engine, 82,000 mi.had been experiencing some surging, no other symptoms.8/05 drove home, parked car, went out next morning and auto would not start.towed to dealer service dept. Who found "water in cylinders".used "stop leak" as temporary repair.11/05 engine again locked, unable to start.water in cylinders, water in oil.contacted buick customer service who suggested engine replacement or purchase of new vehicle.independent mechanic informed me of "class action" suit due to faulty manifold intake and other engine defects.have contacted attorney handling the suit.suit involves "k" series 3.8l engines, various models and years.for now, i need a new engine.as realtor and mortgage lender, i work through my car!

Wife's 1999 buick lesabre with 90,000 miles on it was burning antifreeze in engine.i was told by a certified gm mechanic to try tightening throttle body mounting nuts because being too loose was a common problem from the factory.did that 6 months ago and it seemed to help even though the manifold throttle body mounting surface was warped due to the engine heat.over the past month the car became increasingly hard to start, burned large amounts of antifreeze, and would stall intermittently.on march 13, 2008i took the intake manifold off the engine and found antifreeze in the intake duct going to the air filter and antifreeze pooled in the intake manifold.this was caused by two separate defects, the upper intake manifold gasket not sealing properly to the lower intake manifold (was leaking in two different spots) and the leaking throttle body to intake manifold gasket (was leaking coolant into the intake duct to air filter), which was caused by excess heat from the egr pipe warping the upper manifold.another serious problem with the upper intake manifold was the heat from the egr pipe eroded the manifold to a point that it would cause leaking coolant to enter the intake manifold in the near future.this seems to me to be a safety concern not only from a standpoint of the car stalling and becoming hard to steer but i work in the outdoors in remote locations in sub zero weather in the winter.i am always prepared for the possibility that my car won't start and i will have to walk miles to the nearest phone but somebody else may not be prepared and it looks like this defect might be dangerous if not fixed. I replaced the upper intake manifold and gaskets with an aftermarket one and the car is fine now.

Problems with intake manifold and fuel intake.*mrthe vehicle suddenly backfired.the vehicle was take to the dealer where the computer was scanned.the computer indicated that coolant there was coolant in the intake manifold.

Check engine light illuminated after starting up vehicle and steering wheel was shaking. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop, and coolant was found in the engine. Engine was flushed, and thermostat was replaced.

Engine seized and wouldn't start.found theintake manifold full of antifreeze.caused by a faulty intake manifold.replaced manifold, changed oil and antifreeze and replaced cracked starter.

Antifreeze leaking into engine through intake manifold plenum causing expensive replacement engines and or parts. Dangerous if engine locks up while driving.

1998 lesabre stalled while driving on the highway. The first time the vehicle stalled, the problem was diagnosed as a cracked cylinder head and damaged plenum.on another occasion, when the vehicle stalled, the mechanic forgot to reconnect the alternator.the dealer stated another reason why the vehicle stalled on one of several occasions, was because a crankshaft sensor had failed, but was not related to the previous problems, however later that day the vehicle stalled again. The serpentine belt failed, which caused the consumer to lose power steering.

Vehicle experienced a problem with the safety belt. The plastic that goes outside the belt to guide the belt when being usedsharpened and tore the seat belt each time it was being used. This made the seat belt use very difficult. The seat belt often got stuck in position because of the groves that were worn into the belt during each use. Intermittently when the brake pedal was depressed to slow the vehicle downengine stalled.the dealership performed a diagnostic test, but no failure code was found. The consumer had the vehicle checked by two different dealers who both showed no failure code. *sc

There were no events leading to the failure. The failure was sudden in nature. The failure was the brakes on my car which resulted in a minor (no damage) accident due to lack of stopping power. The brake lines rusted through (pictures available, the lines may still be available) causing nearly complete loss of stopping power. I was able to pull over but did run into shrubbery resulting in minor scratches to the exterior. I had the car brought home and replaced the rusted brakes lines myself with new teflon coated lines to ensure failure would not occur again.

While performing routine maintenance with my son he noticed all the front brake lines were severely rusted and close to failure.this vehicle previously encountered a burst rear brake line on 5-19-09, mileage at that time was 143,304.see nhtsa odi #: 10269462. All metal brake lines from the master cylinder and to/from the abs unit and front wheels were replaced to avoid imminent brake failure.silently rusting brake lines are a potential for sudden and unexpected brake loss, only giving the driver seconds to react.

Brakes are spongy; partially due to a racing engine, it takes more pressure to apply the brakes for what would be considered a routine stop.the engine has 'automatic cruise control' which distorts normal driving sensors.i drove a similar buick for a day and it didn't require me to brake frequently to avoid exceeding our condo area's speed limit.

When vehicle rides rides over a bump or a series of bumps not readily visible, the bounces are above normal and in a series of bumps directional control becomes serious.

As i was driving from the gas station i took a left and as i accelerated, the engine started to vibrate. I i had never noticed this before that day. So proceed to take my time carefully back to work. I examined the undercarriage of my 99 lesabre custom and that's where i noticed that the drivers side subframe bushings have all but fell out due to severe rust. Thankfully the passenger side is still firmly attached. Upon further research, this is a common problem with gm cars of this era and the dorman replacement parts are readily available. Had this component failed on both sides the engine and transmission would have fallen out and caused an accident or worse. I am still trying to figure out if this is a recall issue or just a bad choice of vehicle design by gm and their lack of concern for the publics well being. These subframe bushings should have been or should be a viable recall concern today. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Suspensionis not working properly. Vehicle becomes unstable/ bouncing, and moving from side to side to the point whereconsumer is getting sick. Contacted dealer, and the dealer is not willing to do anything.

When traveling over 60 mph the steering wheel moves too easily. The dealer/manufacturer acknowledges that there has been a change in the suspension starting with the 1996 models. *sb

Control arm bushings were causing an unusual noise, dealer could not get parts for 2 weeks.

The car shows an annoying and unsafe condition whenit is driven at the speed limit on an irregular but properly paved road surface.the shock absorbers will allow several cycles fo bouncing before they dampen out the response to bumps.on several occasions i have had to stop the car in order to regain control, or to prevent bottoming out of the underside.i brought the car in to a local buick service center where it was diagnosed as "normal soft ride"and dismissed.pursuing thisdirectly with buick has yielded the fact that they are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. They have assigned a case number ( 000013545) and promised to advise me when the corrective action becomes available.it seemsprudent, however to document this with nhtsa.

Shocks in rear of vehicle are unstable. This causes the vehicle to bounce up & down, even with people in the front & the back. Would even have luggage in the truck & vehicle would bounce.

Transmission was under recall order (5/99) for "transmission shift lever sequence"; work was completed by alhambra buick on 7/12/99.while driving on friday, 7/23/99, car surged forward and accelerated.i tried to apply brakes but they did not work.i moved to the right lane to avoid hitting car in front of me, but could not get car to slow down as i approached an intersection, but in process hit the car in front of me.i eventually crossed interesection and ran car alongside curb to try to slow down, but car continued to surge and accelerate, and brakes would not work.i was finally able to slow car enough to shift it into park and stop car.car was towed to alhambra buick to be checked out with full explanation of what happened, however, they were insistent to have car towed onto auto body shop for repairs, rather than find source of problem.after many discussions with dealership, buick division of gm and their products allegations resolution office in detroit, i received a phone call from brian birkey this morning (8/16/99 a.m.) of this same office, stating that buick's engineers could find nothing wrong with the car and his findings were being given to gm.at this point, they would expect me to have my insurance pay for my auto body damage and remedy the driver which my car hit.i do not want this car returned to me, given my experience and their finding that the car checked out okay without any identification or acknowledgement of a mechanical problem.i have no confidence in this car or their failure to find the cause of the problems; further, i did not pay $30,000 for a new buick to become their next crash test dummie.i strongly feel that they should replace my buick with another new car or refund my money.if they feel such confidence in their inspection, then they can sell the car as a used car on their lot.

Consumer tookvehicle to dealership for an oil change, and was informed by mechanic that a leak developed and leaked fluid onto the engine. Antifreeze was gone. While attempting to make a right turn from a main highway to a secondary road, the car failed to move until the accelerator pedal was depressed to the floor. The vehicle acted as though it was stalling or stuck in high gear. This is the sixth time this has happened and the dealer cannot locate or replicate the problem. This is the second time i have reported the incident on this site and after reviewing the site and finding other people are describing the same problem, i felt you should know this problem is still present. To overcome the problem since the dealer cannot rectify, i downshift to low each time i have to make a slow turn. I don't trust the car to do what it's supposed to do. Also, the dealer has been very good about trying to replicate the problem, but it just doesn't happen. This is not a dealer issue, they have tried, but i cannot keep going in for service checks all the time, so i adjusted to the problem. I guess the next step would be to hear from buick, but nothing happened the first time i wrote you. Now that more people are reporting the same type of problem, buick should be interested.

While driving through a parking lot at 5-8 mph, attempting to park, vehicle surged forward and suddenly accelerated, causing consumer to have a head-on collision. This happened in dry weather conditions.

While in reversevehicle surged rearward suddenly and unexpectedly, resulting in a minor collision. Dealer has been notified.

Consumer states during a severe thunderstorm windshield wipers did not work when he turned them on, when he turned wipers on high they started, but only after a period of time without being able to see the road, dealer has replaced the motor and switch, consumer was advised by dealer that condition would lead to a complete failure but they have not been able to determine the cause of the problem this is a ongoing problem.

When the windshield wiper switch is applied, fluid comes out onto the windshield and the wipers do not come on, making it impossible to see the road ahead. Dealer can't find the cause.
