My vehicle started flashing, chiming, giving service abs, service tc, service brakes messages, air bag indicator lit up,and turn signals started having longer and longer pauses between clicks at random times during a two week period. I took the vehicle for a computer diagnostic. I was notified everything indicated the instrument panel is the problem: the computer is not connecting to the various parts of the vehicle.

I brought my car to my mechanic for regular inspection.i have a strange noise in the steering base when i turn the wheel or apply the brakes.he told me it was in the steering columnand my airbag light comes on and will not go off.i found that there was a recall for the brake pedal pushrod retainer and i went to the buick dealership and they told me there was no problem, yet i have a vehicle history summary for it.how can i get it fixed if they deny it?

The air bag module in my lacrosse is being replaced for the fourth time. It failed the first time around 40,000 miles and was replaced under the warranty. It failed again around 80,000 and i paid to have it replaced around $900.00. I now have 117,647 miles on the car and it is being replaced again. Gm said they would pay $500.00 of the repair cost. I don't know what is causing these module break but it would seems that this would be a part that rarely breaks. I believe the source of the problem has never been established and that it will go out again in 30,000 miles. The unit is located under the drivers seat and believe that he wiring is shorting out on the seat track. If the red indicator is on an i move my seat it goes out in less than a minute. I have advised gm of this but no action on their part.

My wife and i were driving our new (to us) 2005 buick lacrosse with the rear window defroster on in sanford, nc.it was on for approximately 10 minutes.the rear window exploded into the vehicle while we were driving with what appeared to be an 8 inch hole in the middle.we bought the car approximately 3 weeks ago used with a 30 day warranty from steve jones honda in aberdeen nc.we haven't even made the first payment and we still have a temporary tag on the vehicle.the dealership refused to assist in any way with the vehicle repair and now we have spent over $300 on a new rear window for our new car.the wires in the defroster were observed to be a different color in the center of the window - dark orange / red.this incident was very frightening and appeared to simply be a result of a malfunctioning rear window defroster.we had the shop not hook up the defroster to the new window to avoid another of these incidents.we could find no recall information for this issue with this vehicle.though we did find one other incident online of the exact thing occurring to a mother who had their infant child in the back of their 2006 lacrosse when this occurred.

The vehicle was being driven at night when suddenly the headlights went out causing the driver to leave the road as he was going thru a turn at the time. Luckily no one was injured and the car only suffered minor damage. It had to be pulled out of the ditch. After the car was driven home less than a mile away, i opened the hood and saw that the fuse box had caught on fire and a portion melted.this also damaged the wiring connected to the fuse box. I am not sure what other components have failed as a result because the vehicle has not been operable since. I am currently trying to get the vehicle repaired and have spent $300 and countless hours on labor so far. This same problem is currently being investigated on 2006 and up buick lacrosse's. I would like for the 2005 models to be included in the pending recall. The vehicle was purchased six months prior to the failure for $8,000 and now i am not sure it will ever run again.

Low beams intermittently fail at night, then self-restore within a few minutes. High beams work. I was driving my car everything was perfectly working.i parked for the night behind my house no problems. I went to drive my car the next morning and all of the dash gauges as well as the reverse lights were out. I took it to an auto repair shop with no explanation as to what was going on. The cluster panel was replaced with no luck of the problem being resolved. Fuses were replaced also. This is not only upsetting but it is also dangerous. I can not and do not drive the car because of this issue. How do i know how much gas i have or how fast i am traveling. Gm sent out a recall for the buick lacrosse 2005. The recall was to fix an issue that caused the car to switch off at random while running causing for potential crash and lack of airbags to work and other possible hazards. They recommended that we take any things off of the key ring other than the key when in drive. I had never experienced the issue of my car turning off on its own previous to receiving this recall. Being proactive i took my car to the wilkins gmc buick dealership located at 6913 ritchie highway, glen burnie, md 21061 in order to have the recall serviced. While having the recall fixed i found out from a service worker at the dealership that the recall fix is only a change in the key. Once the recall fix was completed i left and a week later had the issue of the car turning off while driving occur. I called the dealership to see if they would like to take a look at the key to ensure the fix was properly done, they informed me it was properly done and no need to come in. I then called gm corporate and was told they have no recall on the ignition part (the real problem) and the key should have fixed the issue. I was given no assistance for the true cause of the problem and am very disappointed in the lack of quality and quality assurance from this company. My car has progressively gotten worse and now will barely stay on without the key turning to the off position. I have done research and spoken with many mechanics with all of the information pointing to the need for a new proper recall on the ignition itself and not the key.

For months prior at night my low beams would dim and get brighter periodically. Then as i was driving one morning i began to smell an electrical burning smell. Luckily i was on my way home which was less than a half mile away. When i got home i opened the hood and saw smoke coming from the fuse box. I immediately disconnected the negative battery cable and proceeded to investigate what happened. Upon further investigation the hdm module had failed and was melted right into the fuse block. If i had driven any longer than i did i feel like my car would have certainly caught fire. Luckily i got home safe and prevented any further damage from my car.

The headlights (dims) will shut off,the radio will turn off or the lights for it will dim or shut off, the dash lights dim or turn off completely, then take quite a while to come back on.sometimes it affects only different parts of those listed above. The issue is we have had it into a repair shop at least twice for it and they have replace some parts they thought could cause it, but it hasn't stopped it from happening. It is only noticeable in the evenings when the lights are needed but it happens at any time but when you want to duplicate the problem. No one seems to know what the problem is because when we get it to the shop, the problems are no longer showing up. It has done this for her at least 6 times.

Traveling on interstate 57 during daytime hours.while cruising at 73 miles per hour in the right hand lane, the vehicle sputtered and lost all power. I coasted to a stop off the side of the road. I restarted the vehicle and everything seemed ok, so i continued on. A little later it sputtered again and started losing power.the power came back before it came to a complete stop. The vehicle coasted down to about 60 miles per hour before it kicked back in. I in the mean time had dropped back behind the semi with the three cars behind me and when i could i pulled back into the right hand lane.this was a very dangerous situation for me and my wife. A couple months ago it stalled, while my 17 year old daughter was driving it. There were no engine lights on. This happened to me a couple times and to my husband. It takes about 2-3 minutes before you can start it. The engine light will come on when it stalls, but goes off when started.without the engine light on, there is no the code to find out what is wrong. One time it stalled and when started, the engine light stayed on.. My husband took it to the gm dealer and we were told it was the battery. We bought brand new battery and installed it. Same day the car would stall. I have read many stories about this problem with the 2005 buick lacrosse. People seem to have multiple problems it could be, but when replacing parts doesn't fix the stalling problem. I called gm and got a case number.we are told to keep driving it until the engine light stays on so we can get a diagnosis. When the car stalls at 20 mph or 55 mph, you have no control of the vehicle. Gm won't do anything until there is a diagnosis. I asked gm if i could get a loaner car until my car is fixed and they just say the warranty is over, or it is a seven year old car, and of course won't do anything until it isdiagnosed.?? it is very dangerous, especially if no warning lights come on. I don't dare to drive it. My husband is the only one who drives it. We have another vehicle, which is gas hog that i have to drive.i can't afford a new car. I also can't afford to keep buying parts that don't fix the problem.my car is paid off. I am disabled and can't work. Just waiting now for disability benefits. My car has low mileage and is in perfect condition. I am unable to drive my car that is registered and insured and gm will not help me. I think it is dangerous to tell us to drive the car until a engine light comes on. Any resolutions?

While driving home at night on the highway my headlights went outi tried turning them off and then back on nothing happened so i drove home using my flashers so no one would hit me. Took into the dealer and they checked the car out and the headlights were now working they told me they would not be able to do anything unless it happens when they have it in the repair shop. They stated it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Great response . Since then it has happened three more times the most recent was yesterday. I am able to put my high beams on but while driving it's scary because i am constantly being flashed by cars due to the use of them . My job is 35 min away from home and there are three nights per week that i drive home in the evening and my driving is on the highway which is a major interstate. I'm waiting for the police to pull me over one time for using them.i am contacting the dealership again tomorrow which is dec 15, 2008.

Re: nhtsa campaign 15v519000 (gm safety recall 14291).this problem results in failure of headlights.i received letter from gm in september 2015.it indicated that a permanent solution was not yet available. Today i checked with gm and they indicated the permanent solution is not yet available and furthermore they have no schedule for completion.obviously, headlight failure is a significant safety concern (which has happened twice to me).for gm not to have developed a permanent solution, or apparently even a schedule for doing so, is extremely disappointing.

Driving down the road lost low beam headlights as well as day time lights , smelled small burning odor and discovered the headlight control in the fuse panel to be over heating and beginning to burn a hole in the fuse panel under the hood. Have read of this happening to several of these cars with the fuse panel being the direct source due to wires shorting out internally, why is this car not included in the recent recall?

Low beam head lights went out while driving. I pull to the shoulder changed the switch setting from auto to on. This did not help . I drove home on high beams. As i entered the driveway the low beams came back on. This is the second time the lights have gone out only to come back on after a few minutes.

My daughter has a 2005 buick lacrosse that the electrical system shuts off different items that can be dangerous at night.

I own a 2005 buick cxl with about 38200 miles. Starting back in february or march 2007, the message from the dash indicated that my oil lever was low.i added 1quarts of oil and thought that my last oil change wasn?t complete. After driving many more miles, the oil indicator came on again. I brought the car to the dealer for diagnosis on april 4, 2007 with 19,488. Oil dye was added to trace a possible leak.no leak was visible when i returned again on june 13th (21,126 miles) when the oil indicator went on again.the dealer found minor seepage due to the left rear of the oil pan.the bolts were tightened, changed the oil and they sent me on my way. On july 23rd (23,102 miles) the oil light went on again, but this time the dealer suggested a consumption test and that i shouldn?t add any oil.on august 29th (24,275 miles) oil was down again.they added 1 quart of oil and told me to bring the car back again for a valve determination.on september 4th (24,637 miles), the dealer notated that there was oil lost and found bulletin for valve stem seals. They were replaced.finally, on january 11, 2008 and still loosing oil, the dealer told me that a bulletin says that it is common to loose 1 quart oil every 1000 miles. I told them that answer wasn't acceptable.

2005 lacrosse dash lights are not bright enough.

After owning the car for est 2 yrs, i noticed the info cntr began to not work properly.the illumination in the info cntr & radio area will intermittently not light up.there are occasions where this w/b lit & then go out as i drive, or vice versa. W/ the car being under warranty, i brought it to the dealership last summer, they were unable to recreate the prob.i filed a complaint with gm (case #71-567506079) on 10/23/07.they indicated they were unaware of any potential probs with the info cntr.7/07, i began keeping track when the prob occurred.w/ my warranty abt to expire, i brought the car back to the dealership 1/4/08, along with documentation of when the prob occurred.again, they could not recreate prob & gave me a statement from gm that provided a possible diagnosis."condition" customer comment of i/p difficult to see at dusk or dawn.recommendation:cause:"the ambient light sensor may sense that it is sufficiently dark under these conditions that the bcm will activate the automatic headlamps.when this happens, normal i/p dimming occurs, causing the customer concern." correction: "this is normal operation of the vehicle and there is no correction for this concern.engineering is evaluating this feature but it is unclear at this time if any change will be possible."to this i ask: 1) why did this "concern" only recently develop?i did not have this "concern" in the 1st yr i owned the car.2) per my doc the "concern" (22 instances from 7/27/07to 12/24/07) occurred under these conditions:41% cloudy/overcast, 14% dusk/dawn and 45% sunny, thereby reputing the "normal operation at dusk/dawn". 3) why is it the illumination may not be on when i start the car, but 4 miles down the road it comes on, or vice versa? 4) how is it when i spoke to the rep back in oct they were unaware of any "concerns", yet, in dec their "engineers are evaluating the feature"?to this date, the "concern" has yet to be resolved and 3 more occurrences have come about.

On a cold morning in february, outside driver's side door handle broke off during normal opening function. Upon further investigation, it turns out that the entire handle is merely chrome-plated plastic, with pem nuts inserted into the rear side of the handle. The entire tensile load of the handle is carried on these two points, and this is where the plastic fractured. Having no luck finding replacement parts, and no reason to believe that putting a similarly-designed handle would prevent the problem from recurring, i repaired the handle by drilling through the handle and putting 2 bolts and 2 nuts through the body of the handle to secure it to the door.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lacrosse. The contact stated that the vehicle doors locked unexpectedly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

From approx. 60,000 miles drivers door would stick in the locked position regardless of lock solenoid actuation. Cycling door lock solenoid several to "many" times usually loosened it up, however, at 80,000 miles it stuck for 3 days. Dealer that replaced the mechanism advised that when the door unlocks, there is a metal gear in the door lock mechanism that engages a plastic gear that moves to engage the door handles (in & out) so when you pull on either handle the door opens. So, when the plastic gear wears out, your done. Dealer had to break into the car because the door will not open with this malfunction.drivers door, passenger door and now, last week at 180,000 miles the rear driver side door have all malfunctioned and needed replacement. Approx. $250 - $300 each time depending on need to break in. Safety issue if you get locked in when it malfunctions.

My son was driving and the rack and pinion went out again. This is the third time in two months. Something needs to be done about this vehicle before something serious happens like lost of life.

This is the fifth (5th) time the rack and pinion has gone out on this vehicle in the past three months - may 2013 through july 2013. This does not make any sense - the vehicle was repaired with "genuine gm parts" and still continues to go out in about a week after install. When is someone going to address this issue? i send complaint after complaint to you and to the buick people and nothing is being done. What good does it do to keep sending complaints to your agency? what good does it do to send complaints to buick and general motors - nothing is going to happen, nothing is going to be fixed. Bah!!!!!!! i will definitely never purchase another american vehicle again! nothing but the runaround. If my name was shaquille o'neal they would be sending me a brand new vehicle to shut me up.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lacrosse.whenever the contact places the vehicle into drive, he hears a loud clunking noise and it feels as if the vehicle is not in gear.after a while, the engine will rev and finally shift into the proper gear.while driving less than 15 mph, it feels as if the gears are changing and the clunking noise is heard again.the vehicle has been to the dealer several times, but the manufacturer stated that the vehicle is working properly.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 73,000 and current mileage was 76,000.

Car was repaired thursday, june 27, 2013, picked up onthursday, june 27, 2013, rack and pinion went out friday night, june 28, 2013 for the fourth () time in less than two months. Something needs to be done about this defect. There was no warning, steering got tight, pulled over and checked the fluid, was empty, put some more in and it poured out the bottom on the driver's side. Just like the other three times.

"takata recall" we bought a used 2005 buick lacrosse for our sonin april 2016; at first it ran perfect and then we noticed a thump when changing gears (automatic transmission).two weeks ago my son was going to the store and "drive" stopped working.now it is sitting in the yard and will only go into 1st and 2nd gear and reverse.it will not go into drive.

I smell something like burning wires. The transmission light is on.automatic shifting jerks. I am afraid of being stranded somewhere. I am 70 years old and need my car to be reliable.

While driving the car down the road it will "randomly" shut off. Giving no indication other then dimming lights. Neither the dealership or the garage i went to can explain it. The power steering doesnt work and has almost caused me to crash on the highway and town roads.

While sitting at red light would not move on green, had checked could not find problem. Then during merging onto highway lost all power, almost got hit. Then starting surging. To dealer again, could find no problem. Kept acting up, it was the transmission again. This is the 2nd rebuild on this very much used transmission model in gm vehicles.

S10- direct reply- letter to the secretary from constituent regarding assistance with a safety recall of a 2005 buick lacrosse.the consumer stated the air bag light would come on and then go off.the dealer stated it would cost $150 to replace the air bag module for the driver and passenger side.also, the vehicle stalled slightly when driving up a short hill. There was a noise coming from thefront of the vehicle. The dealer concluded the fender was rubbing on the tire when turning left and they simply re-positioned the right front fender. On one occasion, when the consumer started the vehicle, he heard a strange noise and the steering wheel would not turn.the vehicle was towed to the dealer. It was determined, the power steering pump, transmission, water pump and engine were all leaking fluids.also, the wheel bearing needed to be replaced. Updated 12/17/15

The contact stated that when driving at any speed, the vehicle would intermittently jerk when changing gears and sporadically would fail to start.in addition, the rear defroster would take an abnormally long time to defrost the window and the air conditioning unit would independently turn off and on. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 42,000 and the current mileage was unavailable.

Dt*: the consumer stated while driving the vehicle surged. It was taken to an independent repair shop. The mechanic determined it was the transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, were a diagnostic test was performed and no codes were found.while turning right there was a clicking noise in the front end.

2005 buick lacrosse was bought used with slightly over 44,000 miles back in may of 2008 and was taken to the dealership for acceleration and transmission shifting issues several times since purchase. Car would not accelerate, losing power while going up hills, bogging down while slightly accelerating to pass, and the transmission would shimmy between 1st and 2nd gears, and clunk when coming to a stop. Naturally, the dealership played the guessing game replacing the catalytic converter, the torque converter and sensor, and even re-programmed the computer, and could no longer duplicate any problems once they had run out of their options two months ago the car developed a clicking noise while turning the steering wheel either direction, the dealer was able to determine within an hour that it was the intermediate steering shaft and proposed lubrication to resolve the issue for a cost of over $300. Sounds like they were already aware of this popular issue.

The vehicle had a hesitation upon acceleration between 40 and 60 mph. Also noise was coming from the engine. Especially on a cold start. Brakes were pulsating.

2005 buick lacrosse transmission failed at 81,000 miles- took car to dealership before extended warranty expired with the hard shifting problem before the transmission went out they stated it wasn't the transmission- transmission had to be rebuilt at my cost $2,500.per google search this has been a common problem other owners of the same car have had.

Car looses power while trying to accelerate.have almost been rear ended on a couple of occasions.once while on i-95 in georgia, a semi-truck almost rear ended the vehicle.the dealership says it cannot duplicate the problem even though they say it could be the wireless accelerator they will not replace it unless they can personally duplicate the problem.

At times, car will not accelerate.when attempting to increase speed, usually when accelerating into high speed, the car does nothing for a few seconds, then it begins to buck, still with no speed acceleration.it has lasted from a few seconds to 10 minutes.it only happens periodically, and no trouble lights appear on the dashboard.

My 2005 buick lacrosse has had a problem with acceleration since i bought it used in 2006, if you step on the gas between 50 and 60mph the engine dies, no warning lights come on and you have to idle out of traffic until the system comes back on, i took it to buick and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong, to this day you have to watch your speed when passing so that you do not lose power.

2005 buick lacrosse with defective brakes under recall. Customer stated that her vehicle had defective brakes and the pedal was pressed the brakes would not be applied. She was told two weeks before repairs could be made.the consumer also stated the lights on the driver's information center were dim most of the time and sometimes disappeared altogether.the dealer informed the consumer it was a normal occurrence for interior illumination to dim/brighten due to voltage demand and/or ambient light conditions.the consumer believed there was a short circuit in the electrical system, a problemwith a computer chip or the battery voltage.the power steering pressure hose leaked due to poor manufacturing.

The contact owned a 2005 buick lacrosse. On august 24, 2014, while driving approximately 65 mph, the power steering and brakes failed. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a concrete divider. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact suffered back, knee, and neck pain that required medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a wreckage yard by a private tow company. The contact received a recall notification after the crash occurred for nhtsa campaign number: 14v355000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lacrosse.the contact stated that there was a tsb regarding a clunking noise (service bulletin number 4105, nhtsa campaign id number 10020049 (steering:column)).the failure occurs whenever the steering wheel is turned.the tsb stated that the failure can be resolved by greasing the wheel and was due to insufficient lubrication of the intermediate steering shaft.the failure began at 41,000 miles in 2007 while driving 15 mph.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they repaired the vehicle according to the tsb; however, the mechanic stated that the failure would occur again.currently, at 66,000 miles, the failure is recurring.the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was corrected the first time and they would not repair it again since it was out of warranty.the contact believes a recall should be issued since it is a manufacturer defect.the failure mileage was 41,000 and current mileage was 67,000.updated 01/08/09 the consumer stated the steering intermediate shaft has inadequate lubrication, which cause a clunking noise. The consumer stated the noise has returned.updated 01/09/09.

I have had to replace the power steering pump, and steering intermediate shaft, both tie rod ends. This is all steering related issues on a buick lacrosse 2005 that had only 26,333 miles. I feel that this auto should not have had these problems at this mileage. I sent a copy of complaint to gm they will do nothing about any of these problems until there would be a recall. This is a safety issue.updated 10/06/11.

Buick made noise when turning a corner with around 30,000 miles on car.the steering intermediate shaft had to be replaced which cured the problem.it could have been lubricated instead, but this would have only been a temporary solution.there is a bulletin on this defect, but we feel that gm should have recalled this model, rather than lubricating the shafts until the warranty had expired.this noise had been noticed long before this; however it didn't always occur every corner so had to wait until it was ongoing to locate the problem.

My complaint is a duplicate of all the other steering complains.it has a crunching-grinding sound and it is getting worse.it started at about 41,000 miles.i see that it started much earlier with many other lacrosse's.what is wrong with you gm??? why is there not a recall on this.i just purchased this vehicle from a reputable dealer and of course it started just three months after.i even purchased the extended warranty which of course does not cover this.i cannot afford to fix this.i have never owned a gm before and thought that this could be my lucky car.wrong.

Son was driving to pick up his mother from work. Steering became hard to turn (2nd time in one month). Vehicle was repaired for rack and pinion problems not one month ago. Problem has recurred. Gm is aware that there is a problem with this platform (shared with buick lucerne) and chooses not to fix or address the problem until there is loss of life. The nhtsa is aware that there is a problem also.

Power steering went out completely, no warning just out. Had a very hard time steering car. Lucky know one was hurt.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lacrosse. The contact stated that while driving a various speeds, the power steering sensor light illuminated as the power steering malfunctioned causing the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the power steering was faulty. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

My vehicle was experiencing clunking whenever i turned the steering wheel while driving with less than 35,000 miles on it.it had become progressively worse over the past few months.the steering also felt a bit loose.i contacted gm for vehicle recalls and there was one on the steering column but not for my vehicle or the intermediate shaft which as it turns out was the defective part and the shaft was loose internally.gm insisted i go to a gm dealer for service to see if i "might" be eligible for replacement assistance.i told them i had a certified mechanic who was closer and less expensive.i offered to send them the defective part and they were not interested.gm stated when i filed my complaint with them that they will not review any vehicle issues unless serviced by a gm dealer.they also offered no opinion when i told them gm has multiple service bulletins on the clunking issue and this defective part.i know of at least 15 similar complaints filed with the nhtsa.apparently, gm won't take ownership of defective parts unless someone loses steering, dies and they are sued.so much for customer service.i am curious how many other intermediate shafts have been replaced by gm or other mechanics - maybe hundreds or thousands.i also had to replace two front defective outer tie rod ends at 30,000 miles and this is with gentle driving.looks like another defective part and dangerous too if not caught in time.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lacrosse. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle steering wheel became difficult to steer. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to smart chevrolet cadillac buick gmc (3 smart dr, white hall, ar 71602, (870) 543-2200) where it was diagnosed and determined that the steering column had detached from the steering wheel. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred. The contact was concerned about the safety of driving the vehicle. The contact mentioned nhtsa campaign number: 09e005000 (steering) as a possible solution to the failure however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.

My steering seems to be loose way to much play i've tightened a bolt on bottom of steering arm thing twice still is coming loose difficult to steer also seems to be missing rubber or defective prices .will crash can't control car .stability control issues over and overalso tc. And air bags are faulty.in motion major steering prob.

Clunking in steering column.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lacrosse. While backing out of the driveway and turning the steering wheel, there was an abnormal noise that came from the steering column without warning. The failure recurred on several occasions while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the knuckle at the bottom of the steering column was not equipped with a grease fitting and was the cause of the abnormal noise. The entire steering column would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

My son was driving and the rack and pinion went out again. This is the third time in two months. Something needs to be done about this vehicle before something serious happens like lost of life.

My wife and son have complained for last couple of months that the power steering is becoming more and more difficult to turn, makes funny noises, bumping/thumping sound, when turning, a low sounding screeching no power steering fluid. My son was driving to football practice the power steering went out on while turning a corner, impossible to turn. A classmate with him, and together they had to turn the car (almost wrecking the vehicle). I went to get the car and checked the fluid level, there was none in the pump. I put some in and checked under the car. Power steering fluid was pouring out under the driver's side. After filling it again, they power steering worked for only a moment or so, screeching at the same time and shortly thereafter, it no longer worked. I thought it was a busted power steering hose. My wife took it to the shop, they put it upon the rack and we were told it was the rack and pinion that went out. That it would cost around $700 to repair it. The car is in the shop for repairs as i am typing this - mileage is around 67,500 - problem initially began (per my wife and son) a couple of months or so ago. I do not drive that vehicle, otherwise i probably would have noticed the problem much sooner. There are several buick vehicles built on the same type of platform as our 2005 buick lacrosse that have recalls. Why is there not a recall on this vehicle since the problems appears to be across the board? almost all the complaints i researched about this problem with buick lacrosse is a repeat of what others have complained about. Buick (general motors) should assume all responsibility for this defect - yes i said defect." it is more cost effective to ignore the problem and wait until they are forced to address it. My boy almost had wreck behind it and general motors/buick won't fix it until someone gets seriously injured or killed. Enough said.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lacrosse. Upon starting the vehicle, he could hear a humming sound coming from the vehicle but could not determine the exact location. The steering wheel would not engage and after the engine began to idle for a few moments, the humming sound disappeared and the steering returned to its original state. The contact believed that the defect existed in the power steering module and the rack and pinion. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 30,000.

I own a 2005 buick lacrosse with 27,000 miles. Another ownerwith same car warned me to watch out for steering problems. I paid little attention and within one month my car's steering was making a grinding noise when turning in either direction. I took my car to a local repair shop and they quickly diagnosed the problem as a defect in the intermediate shaft in the steering column. They stated there was a tsa bulletin on this issue with the buick lacrosse. About two weeks later while casually discussing this with a neighbor she described the same problem in her buick lacrosse repaired by local buick dealer. From my perspective, hearing of this problem from three sources in one month i believe the problem is pervasive and has yet to result in a tragedy because the owners took preventive measures. I could find nothing about this intermediate shaft defect in buicks 2005 or newer in my research, no accident reports nor recalls. There is however a danger here that is not being disclosed and is quite expensive to repair.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lacrosse. While driving approximately 55 mph, the steering wheel and front end of the vehicle began to shake. The contact also stated that the vehicle veered to the right. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired, but the repairs were unknown and the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

On or about may 8, 2011 at approximately 3 pm my son and his friend were driving in the buick. My son tried to turn the car at an intersection and the power steering was gone. Between the two of them they were able to get the car turned. They drove the car to my house a few blocks away. I went out and saw a large puddle of fluid underneath the car. I discovered that it was power steering fluid. I did have this car towed to my mechanic. My mechanic informed me that the house fitting on the power steering failed. He stated this is a re-engineered gm part only available via gm. He stated that the re-engineered design did not allow for a replacement of the hose since the pump would also need to be replaced according to gm. He quoted me $650 parts and labor. I did call gm on or about may 10 2011 and spoke with brionna. She asked me to have the car taken to a gm dealer at my expense and i would have to pay a diagnostic fee. I did pay to have this car towed a 2nd time to community motors. She stated they would communicate to see if there was any assistance they could offer. I spoke with dennis from community on may 11 2011 and i was told there was a p/s steering failure and the hose and pump would need replaced. "around $900." was what i was quoted. I again spoke with brionna on may 11 and she told me that she would have a district rep in contact with me once he completed his investigation. I spoke with larry on may 11 who asked some questions and told me that he would be in contact with me. The entire time the car sat at the gm dealer i received 2 calls a day asking me to authorize the repair. I stated that gm was investigating this issue and they should be in contact with them. Dennis said no one from gm has told us they will fix the car. As such on 5/12/2011 i did go pick this car up. Please note i was able to drive this car away. The failure is not a completed failure.

My 2005 lacrosse has 25000 miles and i am about to take it in for thethird time for the steering column grinding problem. Gm better figure something out because fords are looking better than ever.all they seem to do is lube the steering column and expect you backlater.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lacrosse. While making a right turn at low speeds, the contact heard a grinding noise coming from the front of the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that the steering wheel seized and the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ignition cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v355000 (electrical system). The approximate failure mileage was 26,000.

A creaking sound was noticed usually when turning the steering wheel or in a constant state turn mostly at speeds below 40 mph. Car was taken to a gm (buick ) dealer garage and it was diagnosed as the rack and pinion. Dealer recommended replacing the rack and pinion, tie rods, power steering pump and hose and also recommended replacing the struts. I took the car to a garage that does md state inspections to have the car inspected and they quickly found the issue....the front stabilizer bar was fatigue cracked completely through at the attach point on one end and only the bolt was holding it together. The stabilizer bar was replaced and the noise went away. If i had taken the gm dealer's advice i would have spent at least $1,850 and still had the problem. The mech. At the inspection station says that this is a chronic problem with certain gm makes/models.

Broken stabilizer bar, sway bar links and bushings were replaced.several days later there was leakage under the drivers side of car. After checking fluids all seemed in order. But leakage continued until i assume fluid was low or out. Now i notice a steering wheel squeal whenever i turn the steering wheel, regardless of low or high speed.i understand power steering is still a problem. When will there be a recall?

Power steering pump is going out on a gm 2005 buick lacrosse after only 70,000 miles.gm currently has a recall out on several models for power steering problems.seems to me that there is a strong possibility that the issue with my car is related.

I have a 2005 buick lacrosse cxl with only 20,000 miles on it.i've had to have the steering column relubricated twice in 2 yrs.it rattles, or starts to rattle after only 6,000 miles from the last service.this is obviously a factory defect, and i would like a permanent fix to this problem.no wonder honda outsells buick in america.for shame!!

Have had steering issues twice, both related to grease used in bottom of steering column.have been told that grease leaks and/or liquefies over time causing rack to groan due to lack of lubrication, eventually leading to failure of rack if not promptly serviced.have been advised this will be an on-going issue year after year.

I was on my way back home which is rochester, ny.i was coming from porsmouth, va. From burying my motherwhich she pass on june 3, 2014.i had a car accidenton june 22, 2014. A car was coming over into my lane from the left lane cut me short, i tried not to hit thecar turn my car to the right but the car hit my car and made my car go out of control went to the left and hit the center concrete barrier with the left front portion of my car, then i veered across both lanes and struck the east rock embankment before my car coming to rest in the left lane of travel facing north.the crash occurred northbound on l-476 pa turnpike at 0850 hours.my daughter and i was hurt in that crash. We went to the hospital we had to do therapy and as ofseptember 25 2014 i am still going to therapy.the car that i was in the crash with was my buick lacrosse 2005.the car key jump out of the ignition on top of the dashboard and the key was bent into the shape of a horse shoe and my car was total in that crash.

My 2005 lacrosse has 25,000 miles and i am about to take it in for thethird time for the steering column grinding problem. Gm better figure something out because fords are looking better than ever.the steering column has been replaced twice in the previous visits.

My local buick dealer replaced the steering rack on my 2005 buick lacrosse cxl on wednesday, october 17, 2012.the symptoms included a loud whine when accelerating after a left turn.a seal in the steering rack leaked, and the power steering fluid leaked into the boot, but not on to the ground.gm refuses to pay for this problem, and i feel that it is a potential safety issue.i believe that this steering rack may be common to buick regal, pontiac grand prix, and chevrolet impala.i am the original owner of this car.

2005 buick lacrosse had only 24,000 miles and experienced difficulty turning the steering wheel.made a grinding sound.dealer replaced intermediate steering shaft.within 4 months, steering difficulty returned with rumbling and whining noise.

The contact owns a 2005 buick lacrosse. The contact stated there was an abnormal screech coming from the steering wheel when turning in either direction. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where an unknown service was performed on the vehicle. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The dealer was unable to provide a remedy to correct the failure. The vehicle was not further repaired. The contact stated the failure persisted and became progressively worse. The failure mileage was 13,130 and the current mileage is 23,000. Updated 02/23/11*ljthe dealer replaced the intermediate steering shaft. Updated 07/01/11

The power steering was very tight and required a lot of effort to turn the wheel. The mechanic said the car needs a new rack and pinion, hose and alignment. Very costly. ...updated 11/04/15

Pulled into parking lot and lost power steering. Lots of clunking and grinding just prior. Mechanic says power steering hoses, rack and pinion and tie rods. Yet another problem with this vehicle. Gm was aware enough of the problem that they put a supervisor on the line but said that it is out of warranty now, so it's not their problem. Going to try to work with local guys to get out of it. Not sinking another penny into this car. If this had happened on the highway, i'd be dead.

Clunking noise while steering...brought it to my dealer...knew right away the trouble....said that steeringwas a problem with my model...involves intermediate steering column part....required lubrication and replacement of part and labor....car only had30,000 miles.

I've been experiencing a crunching sound in my steering when turning the wheel left or right. I've told i have a problem with the intermediate steering shaft. I've also been told by other gm owners with other type vehicles that they did or are now having the same problem. Why has gm not addressed this problem when they perfectly know they have a part failure why should we the consumer have to pay for this defective part?it's time someone addresses this ongoing problem.

While driving the car down the road it will "randomly" shut off. Giving no indication other then dimming lights. Neither the dealership or the garage i went to can explain it. The power steering doesnt work and has almost caused me to crash on the highway and town roads.

Sway bar cracked both ends.this repair shop claims they replace 2-3 sway bars on gm vehicles per month.

Clunking noise in the steering of 2005 buick lacrosse with 25,000 miles.noticed it about 500 miles earlier and is getting worse day by day.

I have 53000 miles on this car and it's been clunking every time i turn the steering wheel left or right. I'm told this is a problem with the intermediate shaft.i'll be getting it repaired as soon as possible. Shame on gm. That said, i'll guess im going with toyota or honda!!

The contact owns a 2005 buick lacrosse. The contact was driving approximately 15 mph when the steering wheel exhibited an unusual clicking noise. In addition, when applying the brakes there was a slight jerk felt in the steering wheel and brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that he was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to a different dealer for a second opinion where the technician stated that the steering column would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 35,500.

I have a noisy steering column, took it to the dealer this is what i was told: lube lower steering shaft rubber seal, slight improvement.will have to disassemble steering column to eliminate all noises."there was no improvement and the noise seems to be getting worse.of course that dealer is out of business due to gm elimination of dealerships.not sure what my next recourse should be, i just hope it is safe to drive.have about 40,000 miles on a 2005 buick lacrosse cxs.

Date of repair 02/16/2011mileages: 039610 replaced left and right outer tie rods, discovered worn when they balanced both sides. There was always a clucking noise in the steering when i took it in for repair. After the repair it still retain the clucking noise and so decided to go on line and much to my surprise there were many complaints about this clucking noise in the steering column. What i want to know is there something being done about this defective and is it life threading. Will the government force a recall to fix the problem. Thank you

The contact owns a 2005 buick lacrosse.the instrument panel and the driver information center are difficult to read during the day or early mornings because the sensors are dim.the dealer replaced the light cluster switches and stated that the instrument panel and information center were designed with dim lighting; therefore, replacements would not correct the failure.the current mileage was 15,500 and failure mileage was 14,000.

Water leak; front and back passenger foot wells soaked after heavy rainfalls.

Purchased the car in march of 05, have had it in a total of 24 days for service, on about 10 different occasions. The front doors leaked badly in the rain. They have since been adjusted, had new seals put in, bondo applied at a body shop. Then buick replaced both doors with new factory doors. These also leaked. They were adjusted and bondo was applied to the new doors. They required multiple adjustments as well. Now the doors feel like they drop a quarter inch when you open them and there is a lot of wind noise.

Both outside door handles on left driver side and back passenger side have fallen apart when opened. Each occurrences has happened atdifferent times. About a year apart.my concern is what if there was an accident with children in the back seat and i was unable to open the door. Same with the driver side.i have been driving 65 years and never had door handles fall apart. (more cheap quality we pay for).this can't be happening to just me!!

But leakage continued until i assume fluid was low or out. Now i notice a steering wheel squeal whenever i turn the steering wheel, regardless of low or high speed.i understand power steering is still a problem. When will there be a recall?

S10- direct reply- letter to the secretary from constituent regarding assistance with a safety recall of a 2005 buick lacrosse.the consumer stated the air bag light would come on and then go off.the dealer stated it would cost $150 to replace the air bag module for the driver and passenger side.also, the vehicle stalled slightly when driving up a short hill. There was a noise coming from thefront of the vehicle. The dealer concluded the fender was rubbing on the tire when turning left and they simply re-positioned the right front fender. It was determined, the power steering pump, transmission, water pump and engine were all leaking fluids.also, the wheel bearing needed to be replaced. Updated 12/17/15

Front end of car has a slight shimmy, and tires will thump at all speeds. Dealer did a force balance, did not help. I had a four wheel alignment done.that helped about 85 percent of the problem but still has a slight shimmy. I don't know about the rotors or rims.tires are new.new wheel bearings installed.

Premature corrosion caused rear strut to fall off and cut driver's side rear tire.replaced 1 tire, rear struts, rear springs and rear sway bar links. Mechanic said this failure was "unusual."i was very lucky that this did not cause an accident. The repairs cost $917.46. This expense was completely unexpected.i wash winter salt off of the car regularly. Parts, design, or both are flawed.

Dt: new buick lacross; the car wandered around the road. It would all of a sudden go to the left and then to the right. The steering wheel doesn't have to be turned in either of those directions.

Noise in front area, parts replaced front strut, strut mount, tie rod end and front tires, noise still, mechanics mentioned that "cross member is cracked", car only have 22700 miles, they recommended to check if there is a recall for this part, car is in an excellent condition.

Ignition it starts and it dont start i see recall for my year can someone contact me to let me know if i need to have recall done

The vehicle had a hesitation upon acceleration between 40 and 60 mph. Also noise was coming from the engine. Especially on a cold start. Brakes were pulsating.

My car shuts down while driving. My dash will display "service traction control system, reduced power, starting disable" i must pull off the road; car shuts down, now it has trouble restarting after this occurs. Dangerous to drive this car. Occurs intermittently; no pattern. I am paying for a car i cannot drive. Very upsetting. Please help.

The drivers door fails to unlock with car in park and ignition off. An internet search indicates this is a common issue with this vehicle. This issue is not addressed by gm.

I was driving on the highway going 50mph and the car stalled and went down to 20mph and it shut off. I was able to get it started again and was only able to go 20mph all the way home.my car insurance app has engine alerts and it stated it is the throttle/pedal position sensor/switch 'd'/'e' voltage correlation.the the alert stated it was urgent because it decreases the engine performance and the engine may enter limp home mode.i was very lucky no cars where behind me when this happened.

There are no incidents at this time of for this complaint, general motors should also be held financially responsible for the replacement of high-beam bulbs as they will burn out as a result to not having a remedy as of yet to repair/replace the hdm for my vehicle as well as the other gm owners. I work at night and need my headlights to be in proper operating order. Please make gm also responsible for the replacement of the high-beam bulbs on all the vehicles that pertain to this "recall status: recall incomplete. Remedy not yet available" an is unacceptable to the consumer of the affected 2005 ' 2009 model year buick lacrosse vehicles; certain 2006 ' 2008 saab 9-7x and isuzu ascender vehicles; certain 2006 ' 2007 buick rainier, chevrolet trailblazer and gmc envoy vehicles; certain 2007 pontiac grand prix vehicles; and certain 2006 chevrolet trailblazer ext and gmc envoy xl vehicle owners.

The driver's side windshield wiper stopped moving while the passenger side was still working. The splines in the driver's side arm were stripped. I tried to find a replacement arm, but gm has discontinued the part & no aftermarket suppliers have one avaialble. Seems wrong to have a 12 year old car that can not be driven in the rain or snow. Gm needs to keep making parts or release the patent & let other companies make them.

The right and left exterior mirrors experience a reflection that is vertically going through them. However, itdisappears while driving. I was merging onto the nj tpk at 14a heading west, on the road for less than a minute, about 4 feet before merge, heard a clunking noise and my front passenger tire felt flat. Ipulled over and called for help. The sunoco dot came and said tire was good, but rim blew out. When changingoriginal tire to the donut, my original buick rim, factory equipped, came off in two pieces.i have gone todealership difeo in jersey city, nj , and was told not a general motor defect not covered under warranty.union pontiac dealership tells me the same. I called general motors directly, and was told the rim is not a defect of theirs.did not know the manufacturer or part number. On october 9, 2007 contacted union pontiac parts dept. And was given part #88964115, but no record of manufacturer. Made of chrome white aluminum.my complaint is if i was going at a speed of 55-65 mph, rim would have popped off my tire, front end fall to the ground, damaging my axle, etc. Causing me to swerve, possibly physical injury or death.thank god i was only going about 15 mph and only went a short distance.i need your help to see if general motors will take responsibility for this incident. They are the ones who manufactured my 2005 buick la crosse cxs and had these rims placed on my car.i had to drive with an almost fitted rim from a tire company, and purchase 4 new rims made of steel chrome alloy. Will last longer than my car.after this incident i was not going to order the same rim and take another chance in the future for the same thing happen to me. Total cost of loss: $1128. Buick should think of safety, using steel chrome rims, will outlast the life of my car.why is it that there must be a death, or a major collision for themanufacturer to do a research and only recallsbased on how many complaints?these rims are unsafe and should replaced on all the 2005 buicks having such rims to steel, chrome alloy.rim manufacturer known to all. Please investigate and respond back.
