When driving at an undetermined speed air bag warning lightappeared on the dashboard. Consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealership on five separate occasions.however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem.

Air bag light stays on. Dealer notified.

Vehicle was struck by a truck while driving but the air bags did not deploy, consumer believes if the air bags deployed her injuries would have been lessened.nlm

Consumer hit a pole on the drivers side of the vehicle, and the driver's side air bag did not deploy, two injuries due to accident.

The contact owned a 1999 buick century. While driving at 35 mph, the vehicle slid on ice and crashed into a tree. The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained a head injury that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at night the vehicle struck a deer at60 mph and the airbags did not deploy.although the contact and passenger were wearing t seat belts, the contact's husbandsustained minor injuriesfrom the seat belt straps.there was no pre braking involved.there were no previous problems with the airbags.due to the extensive damage the vehicle was totaled by the insurance adjustor.since the crash involved a deer no police report was taken.

While driving, consumer lost control of steering and ended up crashing, the airbag experienced no deployment.

Passenger airbag light on--means airbag will not/may not deploy if in an auto accident. Dealer sharpe buick replaced module approx 3 times but problem still exists. I was told that airbag light had to stay on constant before they could do anything, light is always on and problem was still not resolved. Also antifreeze leaking due to leaking lower intake gasket which has been leaking for years alsotaken to sharpe buick several times they didn't see a problem even when there was a smell at the dealership. Also the instrument panelcluster was replaced it starting dimming and finally went black. I have recently paid for these repairs. Car came with manufacturer warranty when i purchased the car and i also purchased an extension on the manufacturer warranty from the car dealer sief chevy/buick in hastings mi where i purchased the car.

Air bags did not deploy when car hit and sheared off a telephone pole.car was totaled with front bumper and cross member pushed back to the engine block.

Consumer's vehicle rear endedanother vehicle at 45 mph, and none of frontalairbags deployed.the driver and the passenger were injured during the accident.

As aresult of an accident driver's air bag did not deploy. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further information.

Consumer's vehicle swerved to miss a deer and ran off the road.front end was smashed in about 2 feet. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy.driver sustainedsome bruises.

Dt:1999 buick century limited, when consumer's vehiclewas involved in a head on collision the air bags on both the front driver's side and passenger side did not deploy.

While driving 40 mph, another vehicle caused the vehicle to run off the road.the vehicle hit a tree yet the front air bags did not deploy.the driver's head hit the windshield and the windshield shattered.the vehicle was towed and the vehicle was assessed by the insurance company.it was determined that the air bag sensors were impacted and that the air bags should have deployed.the vehicle is a total loss.

While drivingsrs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. Consumerdrove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanicdetermined that air bag moduleneeded replacing.a recall was not available on this vehicle.

I've had my buick century for about 5 years now, over the years the quality of my car has seriously deteriorated. Most of my problems are electrical. When i start my car - not only does it like to try and start on it's own when i put my key into accessory (battery mode). This has made me go through about 3 starters including it's original, but once it has started i have absolutely no power. Eventually it will come on. During the summer with the heat it seems like it never wants to work. It will usually start with no problems during the winter months. But now with winter coming i am seeing that electrical issues are continuing, whereas the electricity does not come on. I have no radio, no speedometer, no gas, no mileage, nothing. My heat is also not coming on. The fuse box switch seems to be blown or something every fuse that goes into the fuse socket for the blower motor or relay pops and no longer works.along with this i had a fuse fire in my car (i think). It happened in my door when i was rolling my windows down one day. Ever since then my windows do not work the same, and over time they do not work at all. I've changed the controller twice and it doesn't work. Along with the window issues- when my controller did work- my windows liked to get stuck. You could roll them down but they would not come back up. One winter i was driving home i had an hour long drive and 5 minutes into the drive the drivers side window rolled down all on its own and was stuck. Luckily it was just very cold and not snowing. All of these electrical problems have been adding on over the years. The first problem that i ever had was the fuse fire in my window. My next issue of concern is the flooding that is happening in my car. It only occurs on the passenger side of the car on the floor. There seems to be absolutely no source for where this water is coming from.

Could not drive in drive, replac transmission, when got car back not dash or back lights also the car would not restart after stopping

I never was informed of any recalls on my 1999 buick century. Nowi see all the advertisements on television, in the paper, online that the car canburn up. Brakes, steering, ignition. Which was repaired for 400 dollars. My engine warning lightis on constantly, and they can't find what's going on. Once, it just completely stopped.

1) need headlight adjustment instructions for a known recall.2) every door window motor in the buick failed on each window preventing the windows from lowering if in the up position or prevented the windows from raising if in a lowered position.the windows had to be duct taped shut in order to prevent rain from entering the vehicle cab and the failures happened over 2015 to 2016 and each had to be replaced with new motors.there are large numbers of buick owners across the internet complaining about this issue but i don't believe buick ever issued a recall but i believe they should have.if this isn't a recall, it should be because of the large number of vehicles experiencing this known failure.the closest buick dealer to us is sam leman chevrolet buick, 1040 west center st., eureka, il. 309-467-2351.

The contact owns a 1999 buick century. While driving various speeds, the shift gear board and odometer lighting failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to fountain buick (8701 s orange blossom trail a, orlando, fl 32809) where it was diagnosed that the instrument panel lights needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

While driving vehicle (1999 gm buick century ,120,000 miles) on at least 10 different occasions in the past 2 years the vehicle engine has stalled and all electrical power is lost. This has happened on the freeway while driving at 70 mph, it has happened on city streets at 45 mph.after the vehicle stops it can be restarted. There are no warning indicators displayed before or after. Initially thecheck engine light did not come on and there were no code diagnostics indicating a problem. The vehicle has been serviced 3 times. The gas cap, crank sensor have been replaced and the computer reflashed. The vehicle now maintains a constant small evap leak warning code and the check engine light is always on although the servicemechanics cannot find any associated leak problem and the car drives perfect except for the intermittent and sudden engine stall and sudden loss of all electrical power . The vehicle has stalled on 2 occasions since the last service encounter. My internet searches indicate this is a big problem that few buick owners have been able to resolve for many years. I think the sudden loss of engine power and electrical power for steering, brakes, lights at any speed without warning warrants investigation. When this occurs at night on the road - suddenly no one can see you stopped in the middle of the road.

The way the horn is assembled makes it hard to press. When being pressed, it mustbepressed very hard to get it to sound. Dealer has benn contacted.

Consumer states thathorn is not loud enough, and this is a safety matter. .dealer was contacted, and stated they could do nothing because the air bag is also under the wheel.

When driving and trying to use the horn, it is hard to locate the spot where the horn is, causing the consumer to not be able to use the horn.

Horn is difficult to sound and sometimes the first attempt fails, design flaw.*mjs

Car would not start, engine froze up in the garage, the tempature is never 60, put dry gas in tank and after car warmed up it cranked.also the horn is hard to locate in an emergency event.

When the consumer uses the horn the horn sticks intermittently.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Child door electric lock rock switch broke retainer clips. Unable to lock out rear doors.high beam switch clicker broken.not able to keep high beams on without holding flash lever up.body to trunk lid tail light wiring harness broken wire.

My car is nothing but a problem and very serious problem. I lost control of my car and almost get into accident. The abs breaks is not stable,so many electrical problems. Power windows is defect.

When to court on 11/12/13. Was told if i did not take the car i would get charged storage. Went to the garage were the car was. At the court house was told car needs rotors. They took the car out of the garage and parked it running. I got in it stepped on the pedal and it went down on the floor with the brake light on. Had to get the car out so i got it to my home. Beside structural damage from rocker panel filled with spray foam no brakes. You take corners and the car bangs from the frame moving. This car is suppose to have 39000 miles on it. The steering wheel is worn out and the struts bang and bounce. This car is now sitting in my yard. I would like a dot person check this car for true mileage. I ran my own garage and did state inspections and i really think some one altered the mileage. My inspection number was 1495 back in april 2000..updated 11-25-13

I had to replace the head gasket twice.mechanic indicated the first time that the coolant might be the cause for the gasket deterioration.when replaced the second time, the gasket was (i believe) a metal rather than plastic or rubber and the coolant was green.so far, so good. Both replacements cost $1000+.recently had brakes replaced and was told the intake manifold gasket needs to be replaced at a cost of $1100.the car runs well, but has serious rust on the rail below the doors.not sure i should spend that much on a 16 yr old car.i've also had to have a motor on the driver's side window repaired.that seems to be a frequent problem with this model, too.

My car is nothing but a problem and very serious problem. I lost control of my car and almost get into accident. The abs breaks is not stable,so many electrical problems. Power windows is defect.

As the 3rd owner of a 1999 buick century limited i did a thorough search of cars history and found no problems until today 8 9 2013 when i took it in for radiator hose change cooling system flush and oil change which later was told allthey could do was the tranny flush because of the intake manifold gasket leak which im hearing is a huge 3.1 gm engine problem. Uppon calling the former owner she informed me that at 50,000 it was replaced and again at 108,765 miles. It now has 137549 miles and iy has again taken a dump i hear a coolant type conversion can help my $700.00 problem. Im outraged that a car in this good of care is a big disaster. Recall is needed & i shoulda kept my 92 century with the 3.3 v6 it had 374,988 miles at trade in & still ran awesome:{ im so unhappy with this car i am ready to fix it and trade it off for a ford lol.

The contact owns a 1999 buick century. While driving 5 mph, the engine stalled. The contact placed the vehicle in neutral and restarted the ignition, but the failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 98,400.updated 10/07/14*ljupdated 3/24/2015

Dt*: the contact stated when the vehicle was at the dealership for a routine brake check, it was noticed that antifreeze had leaked into the engine.the mechanic informed the contact there were many people with this problem.the contact stated there were no problems with the vehicle prior to the incident.

1999 buick century developed a rough idle right after start up. Then check engine light comes on. The contact owns a 1999 buick century.while driving approximately 55 mph, the temperature gauge increased and the contact began to smell burning antifreeze.the contact parked the vehicle and a mechanic stated that the intake gasket was leaking coolant and needed to be replaced.the current and failure mileages were 54,310.

Intake gasket failed on 3.1 engine in a 1999 buick century.this engine has less than 55,000 miles on it at the time of failure.it appears as if there are many other complaints for the same issue and the manufacturer denies that there was faulty workmanship involved. Estimated cost of repair $700.00also same car with less than 20,000 miles the bolt holding the left front caliper fell off while traveling down the road with my daughter driving (drivers permit) and locked up the left front wheel damaging the rim. Cost of repair $350.00.

Both the intake manifold and the heater core failed on my car.

Loosing coolant.no external leaks can be found.from the information i have read, we probably have an intake manifold gasket problem.

While driving at low speeds a squeaking noise was produced.

My complaint is on my 1999 buick century. December of 2002 i took my car to my mechanic because it was leaking dex-cool coolant. My mechanic informed me it was the intake manifold gasket and it would cost around $440.00. My car only had 59,000 miles on it and was only three years old. This shouldn't have happened. Very poor job of quality in this area by general motors/.

The intake manifold was leaking antifreeze, which could cause the vehicle to overheat. Manufacturer was contacted by consumer.the engine locked up due to loss of coolant.the water pump started leaking at the shaft seal with less than 43000 miles on the vehicle.a dirty, oily substance was noticed in the radiator neck.*tc

Notice coolant is leaking around the intake manifold area on 3.1l v6 engine of my 1999 buick century. Local mechanic said it was a common problem with this engine. Dealer is asking approximately $900.00 to repair this problem. This should be a recall on this engine if this is a frequent problem. A good engine should not failed like this in my opinion. This is not a normal wear and tear of the engine, but poor engineering of the engine. Dealer should pay for this problem.

Driving down road one day when car overheated.one mechanic replaced thermostat but continued to do same.took to another facility who ran diagnostic test and was told that it was the r & r intake manifold gasket.car is a 1999 buick century with only 46,191 miles.have been told the cost to fix problem is approx. $700.with all of the other identical problems of other owners why hasn't something been done with this problem?consumer should not have to foot the bill for gm's defective parts.there is obviously something wrong with the engine design.had a buick regal before this and it is still running with over 195,000 miles.no engine cooling system problem with it.

While air conditioning was on consumer noticed fumes insideof vehicle. Temperature gauge was repaired three times.air scoop to cool engine scrapes ground, also lets fumes and heat from engine in car.*ml

Intake manifold gasket (lower) failure

Car would not start, engine froze up in the garage, the tempature is never 60, put dry gas in tank and after car warmed up it cranked.also the horn is hard to locate in an emergency event.

Second failure of intake manifold gasket on 1999 buick century 3.1 m engine.causes anti freeze to leak from manifold which could cause a fire (as stated in owners manual, warning not to spill anti-freeze on a hot engine when filling radiator as it could cause a fire).first failure occurred at 72,000 miles.second failure at 115,000 miles.

1999 buick century began using dex-cool and overheating. Also heater would blow cold indicating coolant was low.car taken to dealer who said it was a leak in upper and lower intake gaskets.when asked why this happened they said that gm has had bad batches of gaskets and they are having to replace a lot of gaskets, even on 2003 models.i asked why they were charging me $403.66 to repair, since it is happening so much.they said that gm considers this gasket problem a "normal wear and tear" item just like belts, oil changes, ect! this should not be happening when the car only has 34,780 miles on it.

Intake manifold gasket has a leaking coolant.the car was stranded on the side of a busy divided four lane highway while waiting for a tow truck; twice.*la

Vehicle started to run a little lot in october 2002. Vehicle was brought to mechanic shop since we where out of the three year warranty by about 6 months. Upon checking the contents of the radiator, a brown sludge was notedinside.per service bulletin # 00-06-02-004 the mechanic flushed the system and replaced the radiator cap.two weeks later, the same sludge was starting to appear in the radiator.mechanic suggested that we bring it to the dealer since it was probably a gasket leak.vehicle was brought to crown buick. They diagnosed the problem as a leaking lower gasket and the air was getting into the system causing the sludge.they changed the lower gasket and due to the service person quoting us a wrong price on the cost f the repair this was completed for $two weeks later, the oil pan gasket was diagnosed as leaking.this repair cost $it amazed us that two weeks after crown worked on our vehicle the oil pan gasket starts to leak.both gaskets leak and cause problem within 6 month's of ouryear warranty expiring even though we were under the 36,000 mile warranty.it is obvious inferior workmanship on buick' s apart to have two gaskets leak and cause expensive repairs to the owner of their product.since this was already evident due to the service bulletin beingpublished, buick gems should have completed these repairs as warranty.complaints filed with buick gems and no compensation was offered.

Dt:the consumer owns a 1999 buick century. He states that six months after he purchased the vehicle he took the vehicle in for a recall on the headlights. While the vehicle was there they maintenance the vehicle and found that the gas filler pipe had deteriorated and the cooling system intake was leaking coolant. This vehicle only has about 50,000 miles. Both front lower control arm bushings had blown out and they had to be replaced also. Wyoming valley motorspo box 1308 kingston, pa 18704-0308. He has spoken with gm they told him they would get back with him in a couple of days and they did not contact him back. He is not available until after 4:30. They told him the gas filler pipe was normal for the vehicle. He seen a article that said they had been having this problem with year for the cooling system. They also said the bushings was normal wear on a car also. He did go onto carfax and it did not indicate any time of problems with the vehicle.

Vehicle was overheating while driving.was taken to a mechanic who stated that anti freeze was gunked up and radiator needed to be flushed. The consumer had a mechanic flush the radiator with the same type of fluid (dexcool) on june 15, 2002, consumer went on a trip then noticed low coolant light came on, the antifreeze was checked and it was again full of gunk, later that night the car was check and it was observed that antifreeze was leaking from the head gasket. Original coolant was used, dexcool brand, the consumer believes that the dexcool antifreeze may be the problem.*nlm

I am the owner of a 1999 buick century with 78,000 miles. I bought the vehicle used and have no current warranty. Recently, the low coolant dash light began to intermittently illuminate, which prompted me to check thee coolant level and search the underneath of my vehicle. The coolant level was not low; however, there was a small amount of coolant on the ground. I did extensive research on the internet and identified that tens of thousands of gm vehicle owners have had this same problem with the coolant systems in their gm vehicles. The problem was that the lower intake manifold gasket needed to be replaced. Gm claims that the dex cool coolant, which is required in their vehicles, lasts for 150,000 miles of vehicle use without needing to be changed. However, my internet research of others'' complaints, and the service repairman at my local garage, confirmed that the dex cool coolant through the lower gasket at approximately 70-80,000 miles, requiring a new lower intake manifold gasket and a coolant flush, as well as a necessary oil change because the coolant leaks into the oil due to the faulty gaskets (and in turn causes decreased lubrication in the engine and ruins the bearingswhich is also a costly problem.) after having my vehicle repaired for $900, i am told by my service repairman that this problem will occur again in another 70-80,000 miles, should i own the vehicle for that long.there are several petitions on the internet regarding this faulty equipment, advocating for a gm recall. Gm, however, has done nothing to rectify this problem. Gm should be responsible for the cost incurred for the replacement on the lower intake manifold gasket on affected gm vehicles, as they claim the system is good for 150,000 miles with the dex cool coolant, which is clearly a false claim.

Failure of cooling system, engine intake manifold gasket. Vehicle is 1999 buick century with only 41000 original miles. Engine oil leaked into cooling radiator.

The air snap located underneath the vehicle which supplies air to the engine cooling system is too noisy, indicating a problem which may result ina loss of vehicle control.please provide further information.

Passenger airbag light on--means airbag will not/may not deploy if in an auto accident. Dealer sharpe buick replaced module approx 3 times but problem still exists. Cooling system full of gunk, uses dex*cool. Overheating, leaking coolant, constantly refilling. Mechanic advised dex-cool is the problem, as deteriorates gaskets. Replaced intake manifold gasket for $650. If problem continues, may need to replace head gasket as well. Problem is this is the recommended coolant for this car. Have spent much money flushing and refilling system, before finding out that the coolant is the problem.

The vehicle overheated because one of the engine gaskets became unsealed and leaked coolant.this failure was not recalled because the manufacturer didn't see the problem as a safety issue.*nlm

When looking underhoodnoticed radiator was full of gunk. Took vehicle to a mechanic, and they saidthis happens to all buick century vehicles.

The vehicle stalled, the dealer attempted to fix the problem on several occasions.

Enginefailed prematurely, vehicle had been repaired twice in one year.

While driving the vehicle began to overheat and eventually the engine seized. Dealer notified. Please provide additional information.*nlm*dt

Cooling system defect in 1999 buick century. Cooling system is being containminated by brown substance in system, causing the system to overheat. Reported to dealer three times. They have a tsb out on this, but no clue on what is causing this. They have inspected the vehicle three times, flushed the system, and replaced the radiator cap, but problem reccurs. Now it is going in for the fouth time. Problem was not corrected under original warranty, now the extended warranty that i purchased is about to run out, yet having the same problem. If they have a tsb out on this, why can't they fix the problem once and forever?

Dt*:the contact stated while traveling 20 mph the vehicle stalled.no warning lights illuminated prior to the failure.the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was determined to have a faulty cam shaft.the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced.

Dt*: the contact stated the engine's intake manifold was leaking antifreeze.the non service dealer determined the top of the motor needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not taken to a service dealer

Oil/filter had been changed, lose oil, return to dealer, they said it was a bad filter, they no damage had been done to the engine.

Coolant in oil - head gasket failure -

I noticed smoke from the hood last month and called a mechanic out to check all the hoses. I took it to the original dealership where i purchased the car. There finding was that they found coolant leaking from the lower intake gasket. I could not get the repair done because of two reasons. This is my only form of transportation and money is scarce since i am a full time college student and mother.i have had many gm cars with over 100,000 cars before that never had this problem. I voiced my frustations to the manufactuer, who just simply stated tough luck. The dealership refused to give me an extended warranty above the intial manufacturing warranty. The engine has less than 60,000 miles and a major component already needs to be replaced. It does not matter if i was the original owner or not. I can be a future buick owner, but after this whole situation i am going foreign.dt

Engine is knocking when driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, it was determined thatengine needed to be replaced. Provide further information.

While traveling noticed engine knocking. Dealer was contacted, and engine was replaced. Please provide further information.

There is a tapping noise coming from motor. Dealer has been contacted. Consumer stated the service engine light comes on, consumer took the vehicle to the dealer. But the dealer refused to fix the problem.

While driving at 20 mph the entire vehicle began to jerk backward and forward, at 30 mph the jerking became violent, the engine became noisy and there was a loud noise which appeared to come from below and toward the back of the car. Consumer took vehicle to dealer but dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.nlm the dealer, not knowing what the cause of the problem is, replaced the main computer.the consumer is upset that the dealer replaced a part on the vehicle that wasn't possibly what was causing the problem.

Intake gasket on my 1999 buick century with 25,000 miles on the odometer failed.

Intake manifold coolant leak caused engine failure. While driving intake manifoldleaked antifreeze. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Car started to leak anti-freeze very slowly.has the dexcool antifreeze.i checked the radiator to see if it was low, and the radiator looked as though it had lots of rust in it.so i took it to a local firestone store to have it looked at, and they found the leak and proceeded to tell me that this was a common occurrence in gm vehicles around this model year with the 3.1 liter engine, that a manifold gasket would start to leak, and you either got antifreeze leaking into the oil, or as in my case, the oil from the engine got into the cooling system, hence into the radiator and turned it into "gunk".the price tag to do the work was around $700.so i thought i would call the buick dealer in town to see what they knew about this problem and see what they would charge to fix it.i found it ironic that the gentleman in the service department knew exactly what i was talking about, said they the parts on hand to fix it and quoted me the exact price without even taking a breath.seems this is a rather common occurrence with these engines.which leads me to believe that this is some sort of manufacturing defect, and that perhaps gm/the manufacturer should be picking up the bill for this fix.the service man at the firestone store said the same thing, that this is getting to be pretty common with these cars and could recite the necessary work that needed to be done to fix it right off the top of his head.so i would like to register my complaint in hopes that something could be done to rectify the situation.the car is in the shop presently being repaired.the head gasket and manifold gaskets need to be replaced, which constitutes tearing half the engine apart.also the oil needs to be changed a couple of times to get any coolant out of the engine, and of course the radiator needs to be flushed, cleaned and refilled.no old parts would be available as what needs to be replaced are gaskets.

Dealer replaced intake manifold gasket. Consumer stated it was premature to replace the manifold. When the consumers first purchased the used vehicle, dex-cool needed to be added every 2-3,000 miles. After a year, the consumer was adding dex-cool every 2 days. Consumer then noticed pink gunk in the dex-cool. Vehicle was taken to the dealer and they couldn't determine why this happened and where it came from. They were informed the intake manifold needed to be replaced and the vehicle needed a complete flush. When the consumer received the vehicle from the dealer, they noticed a lot of pink gunk still in the reserve jug.*ph

While air conditioning was on consumer noticed fumes insideof vehicle. Temperature gauge was repaired three times.air scoop to cool engine scrapes ground, also lets fumes and heat from engine in car.*ml

The radio volumn control does not work well. Mjs

My wife tried to change a tire using the supplied jack which failed. The weight of the car crushed the jack which was on a flat asphalt surface. Clearly the supplied jack could not support the weight of the car.

The car had a flat and was being changed in a drive way on a flat surface with the jack that came with the car. Once the car was jacked up and the tire removed the jack broke and the front end fell down, no one was hurt, but someone changing the flat could very well have been hurt or killed when the car went down.

They also said the bushings was normal wear on a car also. He did go onto carfax and it did not indicate any time of problems with the vehicle.

Driving to work, my brake pedal began to get soft but i made it to work safely.at work, i popped the hood a found the brake reservoir was empty.i had not noticed any leaks on my driveway before so i was confused at this leakage.i was able to refill the reservior and tested my brakes at lunch and they seemed better.but before driving home i noticed there was a puddle under the car. I drove home, with my brakes getting softer at each brake application.once home the leaking continued.the source of the leaks is the brake lines rusting.upon further investigation, the fuel vapor lines are also rusting through and leaking. I pulled into a parking space on a slight incline and was just releasing the brake pedal to move forward when the car lunged violently forward as if the gas pedal was to the floor.there was not enough time to do any thing expect a reflex to turn the wheel to avoid hitting the building head-on.the car scraped the side of the building only stopping when it hit a van.after the car stopped moving, i put it in park and turned off the iginition. The impact was not strong enough to deploy the air bags.my feet were not on the brake or gas when this occurred. My son-in-law went to your site to see if there was a record of this happening before and there was almost an exact description on a previous incident.*la

When the vehicle is on an incline and the transmission is in "drive" the vehicle will rapidly roll backward immediately after the brake is released.the service department indicated that all of the new buicks will roll back while in drive and on an incline when the driver releases the brake and does not simultaneously accelerate.the service technician demonstrated with a vehicle off of the lot that other buick century vehicles also rapidly roll backward.this roll back has also occurred at a rise for a railroad crossing and in the parking lot near my place of business.the dealership checked the transmission and told me that the car was operating according to specifications. No warning of the rapid roll back problem is present in the literature concerning the vehicle.a safety warning needs to be included in the manufacturer's information.additionally, the gradent level at which the consumer will experience the roll back should be stated in the product information.

Could not drive in drive, replac transmission, when got car back not dash or back lights also the car would not restart after stopping

Unsure if this is an actual safety problem but it relates to transmission problems for our 1999 buick century.since the problem could render the car unable to move at any time, i would classify it as a safety problem.our service engine light came on a few miles back.we checked everything we could and finally had the problem diagnosed.we were told that the service code meant that a transmission component was slipping.i find that very troubling since the car has only 44,011 miles.we were also told by the same service center that a 2000 buick century that had 45,000 miles had the same problem only the day before.is there an on-going investigation into this problem?should there be?

Consumer's child was strapped inside of carseat. Shoulder belt was strapped againstchild's waist and it tightened . Mother had to cut seatbelt.to release the child.the dealer refused to replace the seat belt under warranty because it was cut by the customer.

Rear seat belt would not release for more room. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Both front head rests will not remain raised when they are used. Putting the head back against the head rest causes them to lower to the minimum position. There will be no support for rear-end collisions. Other cars in the lot have the same problem.

Front seat head restraints do not stay in raised position when used.nlm

While driving, the vibration of the vehicle causes the headrest to rise.dealer has seen seven times and has replaced the headrest.problem still exist.consumer adds head rest rises automatically while driving at 65 mph.

Service vehicle, abs and traction control light came on. The light would go out at first but now is steady. Took car to dealer who said it was broken wire under hood. They have found many with same problem. A wire harness is to short and the wire eventually fails. Abs does not work during this failure.

Wheel sensor failed causing auto track off and service engine soon lights to illuminate.

Brake lines on 1999 buick century rusted out, resulting in complete loss of braking.brake lines are severely rusted in most locations in the rear of the car.fuel filler line is heavily rusted, as of yet there is no leaking from this defect.location on long island new york is not a heavily salted area.

Brake failure, front brake line corrosion (rust through) resulting in complete loss of brake fluid.thankfully no accident resulted.correction required new brake line replacement andreplacement of lost fluid, etcthis failure is the same type which occurred to our 2000 buick century. In that car first the front brake line failed (like the 1999 did), and about a year later the rear brake line failed with the same corrosion problem. The incident happened out of state and the repair shop manager stated "this has become a common problem and that he has replaced many failed brake lines.

The brake lines on my 1999 buick century corroded, fluid leaked and the brakes failed. Fortunately, i noticed the brakes beginning to fail (pedal went all the way to the floor), so i drove defensively and was not involved in an accident.i was only a short distance from my local garage and went there directly to have the lines replaced.they told me that the lines had rotted through.i assumed that this was something that happens in areas that use winter salt, but hearing of the recall of gm trucks, i now realize that this may not be a "normal" event.the parts in question are no longer available.

There was no place to pull off and i decided to turn it off. It instead reengagedand would not disengage for awhile. We finally got onto i-285 looking for a place to get off. As we got up to speed it once again reengaged and it took me nearly 8 miles to get it off again. This happened three more times, each time i was not able to exit. We were fortunate thatwe were able to get off at the exit to our daughters house and i unplugged it under the hood. I had no further problems. I have never been so scared in a car in my life. 85 mph in atlanta traffic & no brakes. I took the car to the local chevrolet/buick dealer (bennett chevrolet/buick)on monday the 12th. They told me that the cruse control module had gone out. I thought that you might need to know about this potential for a fatal crash. We were lucky, please see that this happens to no one else, they might not be so lucky.

She tried to control the steering wheel to stay on the lane. When she applied pressure on the brake, the vehicle spun out of control. The driver's door slammed into the guardrail facing in the oppoite direction of traffic. Without the guardrail, the accident could have been fatal.

Vehicle has 150,000 miles. Suddenly the car has difficulty making left hand turns. Now when turning left the power assist fails, and it feels as if the steering wheel is locked up, but you can force the wheel further left if you try, but it is very hard to do.if you aren't prepared for it you could easily get into an accident. But sometime as you force the wheel left, the resistance will suddenly disappear and the car will jerk to the left. Turning right immediately returns normal power assist, until a left turn is attempted. No fluid is leaking.

This morning i started my car to head to work, there was a whining noise and very hard to turn my steering wheel. As i backed up i noticed a leak onto the pavement. I purchased a bottle of power steering fluid with stop leak and put it in hoping that's what it needed. I continued my drive to work with hesitation. I was still unable to make a sharp turn. While at work i researched a few things and found it to be the rack and pinion has probably locked up and leaked. The part to replace will cost me about $200 and the mechanics fees will be more, with a total of around $750-$800. My car is older and has me wondering if i can afford to put more money into replacing faulty parts. If this part already has an investigation ongoing, i would like to be placed on the list to have this issue solved.

My 1999 buick century has a steering problem, my local dealer (dewey griffin) told me so what! that''s just the way it is! i won't let my wife drive it on the freeway or leave town because i feel it's unsafe.

I own (bought used) a 1999 buick century, at 27,000 miles my drivers windows regulator/motor went out.at 30,000 i hit a little bump while in a construction zone and the passenger side broke and fell down, of course i saw it and swerved a bit, but fortunately not too much.my mother owns a 2000 buick century, at 20,000 her drivers side window broke....i am just waiting for a few more miles and then her passenger side will go.general motors needs to make these parts better.i do believe it is a safety issue, due to the general reaction of something happening like that while a person is driving.

The cruise control was set at 55 mph, suddenly the vehicles speed steadily increased until it approached 70 mph in the midst of heavy traffic, the consumer depressed the brake to cancel the cruise control but it would not disengage, the dealer found that the cruise control cable was pinch by thestrut tower bolt causing the sudden acceleration, the dealer replaced and re-routed the cable.nlm

Consumer was at a stop signat an intersection with foot onbrake, and without prior warning, vehicle took off, went intotraffic, and collided with another vehicle.dealership was aware of problem.

When driving at any speed, and consumer takes foot offaccelerator and the brake, the vehicle would start rolling backwards real fast.

The vehicle was at a stop, when it suddenly accelerated and rear ended another vehicle.

On nov. 9th 2001, we were on our way to atlanta, the cruise control froze up at 70 miles per hour, i was unable to disengage it or turn it off and the brakesfailed to respond , they were locked up also. Thinking that the accelerator might be stuck i tapped it lightly and the car sped up to 85 mph. I was in atlanta traffic and finally after about 5 miles i was able to get it to disengage.

I pulled into a parking space & was just ready to complete brake and turn off engine when my car lunged forward as though the gas was floored. It was so fast i could do nothing! the car went barreling down the side of the building scraping the wall & only stopped when it hit a parked car. This car did this all on it's own. Now i am afraid to drive it when it gets out of repair (giuffre buick). They said they have never heard of such a thing but i found a complaint just like it on your site.

While driving uphill, vehicle began slowing so consumer accelerated, vehicle hesitated for a moment and then took off, consumer took foot off accelerator, however vehicle continued to accelerate at a rapid rate, consumer kept foot on brake slowing vehicle, consumer put vehicle in park and shut it off, brakes were so hot that flames were coming out of the wheels, consumer threw snow on tires to extinguish fire on both tires, brake discs were glowing orange, consumer traded vehicle for a 2000 model, however was $5000 more and feels she is entitled to some compensation.

Vehicle tends to hesitate to accelerate at various times while on the road. This occurs while the check engine light remains on.

The contact owns a 1999 buick century. The contact's wife was applying the brakeswhile pulling into the driveway when the vehicle surged forward into the garage. There were no injuries and no police report was taken. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealership and had not spoken with the manufacturer to-date. Interior rear-view mirror has developed some kind of dark brown oil leak inside the (auto-dimming) mirror. It has decreased visibility in the mirror to nearly zero. It is very dangerous to drive with this mirror since it is essentially like having no rear-view mirror. Just today i had two or three near-incidents on roads i never had a problems while driving other cars which have functioning rear-view mirrors.

Windows fog up too easily, causing poor visibility.2. No insulation in firewall, causing loud road noise , and distracting the driver.

Design placement of vent behind shifting handle becomes extremely hot when heat is on.

In june of 2007 the right rear motor for electric windows stopped working.then in september of 2007 the left rear motor for electric windows stopped working.these were both replaced in early 2008.shortly after replacement of these motors the front drivers window motor stopped working.

Consumer states 3 of the 4 window mechanismsbroke within a month of each other. The windows werestuck in the down position. Consumer paid $700.00 in repairs.

The right front window's is inop.. Replaced broken regulator cables. I would have just excepted this normal on day of repair, aug 29 2007, but the left rear side window became inop. On jan 3 2008 and on jan 21 2008 the right rear side window became inop.(both with the same symptoms.

Driver and rear driver side power windows ceased to operate.please refer to attached copy of the letter sent 10/11/2002 which sets out information about two previous power window failures on the above identified vehicle. Both of them had to be replaced at #391.87. And surely a third power window failed it is obviously a product failure and matters need to be resolved.

Window regulators, in this last twelve months, the driver, passenger and today rear passenger window regulators have failed.a nylon clip holds the two ends of the cabling.the part breaks, then window drop to the down position.the entire window regulator assembly must be replaced.in my opinion, this is a safety & security related issues as the driver is then exposed to the elements or distracted by the passengers who are exposed.the elements being cold, rains, sleet, wind, etc.thevehicle can not be secured with the window down. The part that fails needs to be strengthenedand of made of metal.

Power windows fail and will "go down" while driving with no warning.unable to close the windows as they are "off the track". This the 4th window this has happened to.the 3rd happened 4 days prior to the 4th.the 1st and 2nd happened several months before. Repairs are over $425.00 per windw.i had been informed they are not covered under the extended warranty i had purchased.at this time all 4 window have failed.two have been repaired at my cost. The other two i am not able to repair at this time due to the expense.

Bought this car new.have had intermittent problems with electric windows not operating.in june, drivers window fell down and would not close.mechanic replaced entire window mechanism.three weeks later left rear window begin to fall while driving.drove to dealership where mechanic taped window up and he said this had been a problem but thought it was with all makes/models not just buick.the original repair on front window was $440.to repair rear window would be the same.my husband has disconnected switch and temporary fixed window up.now the remaining two windows seldom operate.

1999 buick century, bought new, currently has 22,000 miles. First failure occurred at approximately 19,000 miles. Passenger side window stopped functioning due to worn out plastic grasp. Dealer explained that is a common problem but has never been recalled. 400 dollars to fix!! now the other 3 windows have the same problem. Dealer wants 1200 dollars to put in the same plastic graps!!!! help.*la

Rear power window failed while in heavy traffic.window control was pushed by accident and when pushed again to bring window back up, a loud "popping" noise was heard and window refused to stay up.service dept. At dealer determined a new regulator was needed.this is the third time power windows have been replaced on this vehicle, as both rear windows failed while car was still under warranty.vehicle very rarely has any backseat passengers, so these windows get very little to no routine use.

Windows just stop working properly the will roll down but not back up.continuous problem i.e. Each window failed over life of car.

Window regulator failure.this is my second complaint about this issue. The last of four windows regulators has failed in a year''s time.a plastic or nylon clip that holds the two cable ends becomes brittle and gives way.the window then is unsupported and falls to the bottom of the track.first the drive window failed.this in my opinion is a safety and security hazard and the driver is then exposed to the elements, cold, rain, etc.the same goes for passengers.the passenger window failed within months after, followed by the rear left window and now the rear right window.this window regulator is common across all gm models in this chassis type.

1999 buick century.have had to replace power windows 6 different times on 2 windows.left front power window motor twice.have had to replace right rear power window motor twice plus the regulator.the right rear power window has gone again and this will be the third time.i have tire plus do the left front window and the dealer working on the right rear.the dealer states there is only a 12,000 or one year warranty so i have to keep paying for these repairs every one to two years.one mechanic said the part was rusting. That indicates water but why can't they fix the problem with the water causing them to rust rather than me paying $300 each time when the motor finally rusts out?

All the power windows will not work.i had the driver's window repaired at a cost of $325.00. It worked for about one year, and now sometimes it will roll down.most certainly there was a problem with these windows.the other windows were occasionally used, so i know that they were not worn out. I am not going to pay to get them fixed because i don't use them. Why has this not been recalled?

The rear power windows motor failed which caused the window to be inoperative.

Dt*: the contact stated the front passenger and rear driver side windows fell down and would not stay up.the dealership determined the regulators needed to be replaced.

Passenger side windshield wiper deposits water directly in the line of vision of the driver on the up-stroke, temporarily blocking drivers vision during moderate to heavy rainstorm until the driver side wiper clears the driver side of the windshield on its downstroke.dealer service manager said nothing can be done by dealer to correct problem. Problem is worse for taller drivers due to the angle at which the passenger side wiper stops on the up-stroke. I am six feet three inches tall and the passenger side wiper stops directly in the center of my line of sight, forcing me to lean to the left substantially during a moderate or heavier storm.
