2009 bmw x5.consumer writes in regards to replacement parts not available to repair driver front air bag module and fuel pump recall notices.

While driving on a freeway more than a week ago suddenly the airbag and restraint malfunction appeared for no valid reason.the next day my wife heard a loud metallic rub sound and park brake malfunction appeared. Searched online but no recall for this kind of problems for my x5 but it looks like its very common for bmws.need help!pls!thank you and more power!

I stopped at a drive thru window and the vehicle shut off without warning. I couldn't get it started and the police tried to put in neutral to move it out of the way. No lights or anything indicated that something was wrong. I have only had the vehicle for 4 days.the airbag restraint light is on and waiting for the sensor. Not sure if this is a recall. It was towed to a shop and then it started when getting it off the tow truck. I don't trust driving it now because it can go out while i'm on the freeway or highway and cause a major accident. There are no reports because i was at a drive thru and just tried to get it out of the way. We had the latest recall done on 08/31/2018.

The vehicle computer system shows a malfunction of the passenger safety system on the vehicle and states that the airbag will not deploy and seatbelts should always be fastened.this is an item that i should not have to pay for addressing, especially in light of related recalls of this specific system on other bmw models.i took the vehicle to circle bmw on hwy 36, west long branch, nj and they wanted $1500 to address the issue and replace the bad "sensor" after charging me $150 to "detect" the reason for the malfunction.

I received a recall notice about air bags in august. I have still not received notification of parts. My bmw x5 is now having another very debilitating problem.it shuts off, stalls, won't start, emits very toxic and strong fumes of burning gas when i start my car and when im idling.the engine lightup then , it shakes, it has no punch. I felt as though it was part of the other recall with the fuel pump and i took it to my local bmw dealership for diagnostics and they dismissed me, told me i had to pay more for more tests and that it absolutely was not the fuel pump recall. In the meantime i asked about the air bag recall and they said no they couldn't help.i complained and [xxx]of parts and service said fine, they would fix the airbags right then, but couldn't offer me a rental. After 3 hours and 3 hours more i could not stay because i had to work so he put that i request recallvwork on my car which is absolutely not true. I just couldn't stay. I needed to make an appointment for acday that i was off but he was very unhelpful. Well yesterday i received the originial recall letter for the fuel pump and im shocked once again that there is no solution at this time.i have a car that is a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.the fumes are giving me headaches, i've got 2 very dangerous recalls that say if i have problems pull over and for to dealership immediately. But nobody wants to help me.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Bmw has taken longer than reasonable to address 3 recalls outstanding on this vehicle.the first recall is from a year ago re driver air bag.the second recall is from 9 months ago re passenger air bag.the third recall is from 4 months ago re in tank fuel pump.bmw has advised that parts will not become available for at least several months from now.bmw was unable to provide an precise dates. In the mean time, we have tried numerous times but been unable to sell our vehicle either privately or to a dealership. No one wants to buy this vehicle because of the long standing, unresolved recalls and bmw has refused to fix the issue earlier or offer any reasonable alternative solution.

Front passenger occupancy sensor has permanent failure. "passenger airbag disabled" light continuously illuminated at all times, with audible noise notifying that a passenger is present and must secure seat belt. Occurs when no passenger is present. In order to drive the vehicle with driver only, the passenger seat belt must be falsely deployed/secured.reference: nhtsa campaign number: 13v564000

The front passenger seat has a permanent malfunction of occupancy detection. The airbag "off" light is illuminated while a passenger is occupying the seat. This is an obvious safety fault, and fails to meet current dot regulations. I do not feel comfortable putting my passengers at risk while they sit there!

My vehicle is bmw x5 30i 2009 model year. I suddenly had an error message on the dashboard screen saying "pass restraint system faulty". Dealer checked the problem and stated that this will not engage front passenger airbag and seatbelt restraint system if not fixed. Asked price was $1800 and paid $1500. Absurd price and should be covered by warranty -- its a safety system! i found out that there was an identical nhtsa recall on the same issue with other bmw vehicles just one or two years before this model year. The nhtsa recall code of that recall is 08v384000.i usually ride the car alone and have occasional passenger and never had any heavy load on the seat.

The dealer stated that the parts were unavailable for months to receive the two air bag recalls. The contact stated that the vehicle was slow to pick up speed and the engine was idling roughly. In addition, the engine warning indicator randomly illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the condition and suggested that the vehicle be taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact was waiting to determine a solution from the manufacturer. The dealer indicated that additional repairs may be required. The contact felt as if the remedy failed to provide a solution for the current condition. The failure mileage was not available. 3-2-19 i brought car to bmw in ft perce, fl for 4 recalls which they did. There was a passenger air bag light on afterwards which they said they would not fix under recall. I had a licensed asc mechanic scan the car and it came up oc3 seat mat fault.i looked up this and there was a campaign april 2009 which specifically states on the 1st page under situation that air bag warning light issue is extended 10 years without mileage limit.i called bmw headquarters 3-25-19 and filed a report, they told me my vin# wasn't recalled but i said it is for the passenger seat mat that was recalled april 2009 and this should be covered if it is the same problem. They told me they would escalate it. Today, 3-26-19, i received a call from another bmw rep and they said they were working on it but they would probably not cover it due to the age of the car and mileage. Passenger seat air bag sensor mat failure.

My 2009 x5 with 127000 miles recently indicated a burnt out brake light.while replacing the light, i found the rear upper right brake light was burnt out, the taillight itself is melted, and the socket is severely melted and scorched. On further investigation, the opposite side (left/driver's side) was also melted! checking online, this appears to be a common problem. I am afraid this could be a fire hazard and was surprised to learn there is not an outstanding recall on the taillights for this vehicle.

Vehicle is subject to recall 12v550000 due to idler pulley bolt which can break, causing accessory drive bet to dislodge and loss of power steering, alternator, etc. This vehicle's idler pulley and bolt were replaced as part of the recall 2.5 years and 35,000 miles ago, but experienced the exact same failure, again, last month. Bmw usa and the local dealer were contacted, both refused to fix the issue, stating that the repair is only valid for two years. The new idler pulley bolt that was installed sheared off at its mounting point, just as the original bolt that was subject to recall did. It is clear that the replacement bolt is subject to the same failure as the original - worse, as this failure occurred in under 3 years and 40,000 miles, it appears that the "fix" is worse and more dangerous than the originally recalled part.in my vehicle, the pulley bolt snapped while the vehicle was being driven on a city street, causing a "bang" noise and the complete loss of power steering.

The contact owns a 2009 bmw x5. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The steering wheel became difficult to turn and the gear selector shifted from the drive position to the neutral position. Afterwards, the engine light illuminated. The contact could not restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic, but was not able to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.

2009 bmw x5 35d vehicle started to display various malfunction codes going into limp mode several times in the middle of traffic loosing power or sudden shut down of engine especially going over pumps or rough and uneven surfaces smoke was seen coming from under hood. Vehicle eventually had a no starting condition. Last display on idrive said ignition malfunction. Mechanic found main engine harness at back of cylinder head was burnt from the engine heat causing the insulation on the wires to be melted and in turn welded themselves together, used wire harness were purchase to replace defective harness but they all had the same problem after contacting the dealer about updated harness to correct problem the dealer admit that they do know about this issue but there is no recall for it. This is a fire hazard and something should be done by the manufacturer to correct it new harnesses will be burnt just like the old ones if it's not rectified

My truck bmw parking for more than 6 hours, fire without a known cause, remaining with total loss, i communicated via email with the bmw, after reviewing the internet and find the research done by you, and receiving the possible diagnostic of what happened "an overheating in the pcb valve that rusted and caused the truck to fire", and knowing the bells that are reaping to pick up the vehicles in the united states and canada, but that they know should be extended to other countries, i put in i know the facts, receiving from them, exactly the bmw group mexico, the answer that they had no responsibility for these events, because two years ago i did not maintain or wash the engine with them; facts that have nothing to do with the defect of the vehicle. Please ask for your help and collaboration, the incident occurred in cucuta, colombia.the police of my country made an inspection of the events, which resulted in the fact that there was nothing external that had caused the fire, which was the truck alone, which caught on and in very short terms was burned as a total loss.i really understand that this country has rules that can give me a protection, but the bmw is one, and the manufacturer must respond from any point of view, by vehicles that manufacture no matter where they are.reviewing the models and years to which they are predicted to have this defect, is the x5 series, between the years of manufacture 2007 to 2011, and the truck of my property is x5 - 2009.this is the answer that the bmw invia"dear [xxx] : thank you for contacting the bmw group. Based on your email, we internally review the history of your bmw xdrive30i, vin [xxx], with factory warranty expired in april 2011. We found a pair of keys reading, which shows lag in the required maintenance services according to factory specifications. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The engine idler pulley bolt broke while vehicle was in motion on highway. Vehicle iost all power steering. Alternator warning lamp illuminated along with warning message "charging malfunction". The bolt had previously been replace in 2012.

Driving through the neighbor hood after some rain, ended up driving through a few inches of rain water, while the opposite traffic struck the same puddle, it caused the front of intake system right under the hood to suck in water causing the bmw suv to light up multiple sensors, loose alot of power and 4x4 traction stability to act up. The rainwater that got ingested almost causing theengine to hydrolock or sieze up. The suv became undepedable due to all the error codes acting lighting up and causing the suv to run at low power.

The fuel gauge does not register "full" when the tank is indeed full. The needle will creep towards "full",but stops short of full. The car has run out of gas with the fuel gauge registering half full. Dealer has replaced both fuel pumps and fuel sensors/sending units as well as an electronic junction box to no avail. Likelihood of becoming stranded is high, in addition to never knowing how much fuel is actually in the tank. Must guess by keeping track of miles traveled after last fill-up. In addition, rear lift gate will not function (very) intermittently with "comfort access" option. Must use key to manually open the lift gate. Dealer has not been able to reproduce this phenomenon in the shop, but it continues to occur and has occurred since the car was brand new.

Sudden failure of water pump at 72k miles without warning while driving at 35 mph.vehicle lost power steering, became impossible to drive.pulled over.bmw said well known issue but bmw not willing to provide any assistance.very dangerous defect.takata air bag recall - listed on bmws website as available but bmw service center said still not available.want to sell the car but cannot because buyers are aware of the recall and do not wish to purchase the vehicle.bmw also refuses to purchase the vehicle as a trade in.will owners be compensated?rear air springs failed at 72k miles.bmw said known issue but not willing to provide any assistance.

The idrive system on the x5 controls the reverse camera and park distance sensors.my vehicle currently has 36,000 miles.the reverse camera and park distance system has a major lag when engaging from park to reverse when you would want to use it.the lag can be measured in minutes, and takes away a major safety feature.bmw's response is that the system takes time to warm up, but other cars i've driven by other manufacturers have zero lag.

My 2009 bmw x5 is exhibiting the same issues listed on the nhtsa campaign number 13v339000 relating to the 'fuel filter heater/ possible fire' issue. Although the make, model, and year are exactly as listed on the nhtsa recall 13v339000 for some reason my vehicle's vin is not listed on the recall note. I pleaded with the bmw dealership to repair this safety issue due to the fact that the make model and year are the same to no avail. My vehicle has a warning light indicating i have the issue with the heater as well as battery drain issues related to the heater staying on not by design. Please assist me with adding my vehicle vin to the recall before someone gets hurt. Thank you.

While driving at speeds up to 70 mph, the vehicle shuts off completely with no warning signs. When vehicle shuts off, all systems are completely off including power steering, antilock braking, the engine itself, all electrical systems, lights - everything completely powerless. The car will then not start for 10-15 minutes, but no check engine lights, and most importantly no errors logged in the computer.the first 2 times this happened was on a freeway at 60-70mph cruising speed. No sounds or warnings the x5 immediately shuts off. We have been fortunate enough to avoid a major accident or severe injury/death this could easily cause. This happened 5 times over a 14 month period, even after 2 bmw certified fixes.after the first incident, we brought it directly to bmw northwest in fife wa. The service department examined the vehicle, talked with bmw us headquarters - their recommendation was that we pay $800 to have the entire fuel system cleaned, and the cause of the problem was likely debris in the fuel lines. We consented to the fix and paid for the repair.after getting the vehicle back it happened 2 additional times. Once again on a freeway going 60 mph, another time on a side street going 30 mph. We then took it back to bmw northwest, they found that there were 3 parts in the fuel system that had not been 'recalled' but were under some type of warranty. Claimed it was a free $3500+ repair, we took it home after the 'fix'.3 months later, the same issue occurred 1 time while driving the vehicle at about 35 mph. Took it back to bmw nw again, this time they are claiming 3 fuel injectors need to be replaced (but they recommend all 6, even though they were previously determined not to be the cause of the issue). They want to 'eliminate' the possibility with the said fix but believe that is likely not the cause and the root is electrical issues.

Car began to overheat while driving on highway, exited highway to city street, then the alert for low coolant came on. Immediately found a place to park to keep engine from being compromised. Allowed to cool, opened reservoir and coolant was low. Added one gallon of approved coolant. Drove for 5 miles. Car sat for several hours. Started car, alert came back on.

The circuit board for the electric auxiliary water pump overheated and caused smoldering.

On oct 1/2008 there was a bolettin saying that waterpump and thermostat were defected. But bwm is just replacing the ones under diesel fuel. There is more gasoline fuel x5's cars than diesel. Why they dont just fix the ones with this issue? there is alot of complaints about it on the web.

The original water pump has been replaced three (3) times in four (4) years.each time the water pump failed coolant started leaking out of the pump and the low coolant indicator illuminated on the dash.the vehicle was in motion for each of the three (3) incidences.the original pump was replaced in 2015 and the third pump replaced in june, 2019.

When the vehicle is idle it will have a white smoke that comes out the tail pipe. Also loosing anti freeze frequently

I own a 2009 bmw x5 diesel. Bmw has recognized an issue with a sensor in the selective catalytic reduction (scr) active tank. The tank stores diesel fluid. Diesel fluid is added into diesel to reduce the amount of emissions that is released from the vehicle. Bmw extended the warranty for this part but it is unknown how they determine the amount of this extension. My vehicle is over the extended warranty by 4 months but under the mileage limit by 40,000 miles. This issue should be a recall call and not an extended warranty with limited time to repair the issue. I attempted to resolve this with sean s. At bmw customer relations by informing him that this is my commuter vehicle and i have to drive this car every day. I also informed him that if not resolved this will lead to a large amount of pollution released to the environment. Sean s. Acting as a representative of bmw north america stated they are only concerned about their business and their bottom line and only will assist me if i'm a loyal customer. They viewed me as not a smart business move to fix the issue and indicated they are not concern for the environment and ok for me to continue to drive this car that is putting out 10x the amount of pollution as gas. Researching the internet there are many bmw x5 owners driving their vehicle with this defective sensor and many using hacks to trick the ecu and many using alternative non oem parts and forcing a fitment. All of this is due to the limited time bmw is offering to fix this issue and the extreme cost of the repair at a bmw service center.

The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 18v336000 (engine and engine cooling). On 10/28/13, i was on a two lane county road, speed limit 45, travelling at 45mph, when the engine overheating light came up on the panel, advising me that the engine was overheating.shortly thereafter, the warning light advised that the engine had overheated and to pull over asap.while trying to find a safe shoulder, the engine shut down, so there was no more power.i was able to get to the side of the road, gliding.while trying to call for assistance, the electrical system shut down, so that i was unable to operate the windows or any other functions.i had the car towed to the dealer.per the dealer invoice, the electric water pump/coolant pump were defective and needed to be replaced.in addition, due to the incident, the thermostat had to be removed and replaced.the bill was $1136.77, not including a "dealer goodwill" credit of $268.59, reflecting 50% of the cost of the new water pump.while the car was at the dealer, i went on line and discovered that there have been dozens upon dozens of reported problems with the bmw water pumps, and that this part has been the subject of recall 11v521000, for 2008 models, and that recalls exist for more recent models.i attempted to discuss the matter with bmw north america customer relations, the supervisor there advised me that the problem was not with bmw, but that the problem was that my vin number had not been listed by the nstb on the recall, and that it was therefore the government's fault!i urge you to review the blogs noted on arfc.org regarding 2008 x5 water pump problems.the fact that the car's response to the water pump failure was to shut down with only seconds of warning placed me, and any other driver of this vehicle in a life threatening situation--several of the posts talk about this happening on a busy highway.i could have died.the car should be recalled, and i should be reimbursed.

The contact owns a 2009 bmw x5. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The steering wheel became difficult to turn and the gear selector shifted from the drive position to the neutral position. Afterwards, the engine light illuminated. I bought my 2009 bmw x5 vehicle in june 2018, with approximately 61,630 miles and a limited warranty with 'power train coverage', which included 'engine, transmission, front wheel drive, and rear wheel drive'.in mid-october 2018, my vehicle began showing the 'low coolant level' light and 'low oil level' light. I called the flow bmw dealership for service and took my vehicle in for service on 10/19/18.flow bmw diagnosed a leak in the radiator. After contacting the warranty company (assure) the warranty company informed the service manager that they would not cover the cost of a new radiator ($1,300.00) because it was not covered by the limited warranty under 'power train coverage'.the radiator is one of the engine's unsung heroes. It's responsible for essential heat exchange functions in your car's cooling system. The normal operating temperature of the average car engine is around 190-210 degrees fahrenheit. With a defective radiator, the increased heat starts to wear on other engine components, and the resulting stress can shorten engine life dramatically.the coolant system is absolutely critical to keeping the engine running. This is a danger to the driver and to others on the road.the radiator issue and inevitable issue with the engine can cause serious injury to other drivers on the road if the vehicle's engine seizes are stops in the middle of traffic. After some research, i learned that other bmw customers have complained about the radiators in bmws from the years 2007-2013 (documents attached). Again, the radiator is a vital part of ensuring that the engine runs appropriately, and if there is evidence of consistent leaking with bmw vehicles with very few miles due to a manufacturing error, then this problem should be corrected. Please see attached documentation for more information.

I am smelling extremely dangerous for health exhaust fumes inside the car while driving. The more the cabin heat is applied, the more exhaust smell is noticeable. I found many forums online related to the same issue on 2009 and up diesel powered bmw x5 xdrive35d. People are complaining about faulty egr coolers, leaking turbos etc. This problem needs to be addressed and corrected. Thank you.

This issue is for a 2009 bmw x5 3.5d (diesel) suv. When slowing down to a near or rolling stop at approximately 2 mph and then attempting to accelerate quickly while turning, the vehicle continues to roll without power for up to 3 seconds. Scenario: pull up to an intersection for a right or left turn, slow to a near stop, then accelerate. The vehicle just rolls forward when crossing traffic or attempting to pull away quickly. Meanwhile, traffic is approaching you at speed and an accident could easily occur. Volkswagen diesel vehicles had a similar problem with their dynamic stability control (dsc) system recent. The key factor may be operating under these conditions while attempting a turn, which invokes dsc. I have experienced this several times since purchase of the vehicle in august 2009.

The contact owns a 2009 bmw x5. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55-65 mph, the vehicle would suddenly decelerate to about 25 mph.the vehicle would then completely shut down with no power steering or power brakes. The dealer stated that they made repairs to the computer. The contact experienced the same failure the day after receiving the vehicle from the dealer. The vehicle was being repaired at the time of the complaint. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that they would investigate but had not corresponded with the contact since. The vin was unavailable when the complaint was filed. The current mileage was approximately 15,000. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.

I took my vehicle in to bmw service department because i was having problems with my vehicle dry starting (didn't want to start as if it was out of gas). Service guy informed me after he ran a diagnostic check that it was my battery. I was flabbergasted, because that didn't sound of a dead battery. I paid 460 (new battery and diagnostic check) and he assured he ran it again with the new battery and no codes was shown again. Before i even got into my vehicle the transport guy notice a light on. Service guy checked it out and finds out rear light needs to be replaced, wait a few. Calls me in the back and says we have a big problem, the righttail light wiring harness has burnt and melted the socket and the whole assembly, which will now cost 380 to repair. My husband takes a look at the left side, and it's worst then the right side, which means both sides needs to be repaired. This is a huge safety issue because it could lead to a fire hazard and the owner would bot even know it. The service guy said he ran a check before and after the replacement of the new battery all within 24hrs, and it didn't it catch this huge safety issue that has been going on in my vehicle, which is naked to the eye unless someone opens up those departments and look with a flash light. Please be aware and lets get this resolved.

The headlights on low beam reach out only 3 car lengths. Traveling at 40 mph or more you have inadequate forward visibility, if there is an object or an animal in the road ahead, due to low distance visibility, you have no response time. The tech knowledge on these headlights for up and down and left to right movement are fine if you are going up hill or turning left or right. They have been to bmw service in lubbock and dallas texas. I have had several friends and family drive this vehicle and they experience the same poor visibility.

Car stuck in park and is in fail safe mode also when trying to charge battery while it's dead it sounds like the whole car is clicking

The rear tail lights get water leaks and corrosion and won't work.they need to be replaced.this happened on both the passenger and driver side lights.

The power cable going to the in-tank fuel pump burnt up, melting the pump housing and melting the insulation on the wires in the tank. When i took it to the dealer they said it was a known issue and that new firmware will fix the issue to reduce how much current the pump draws, they said there was no recall or warranty on this item.the vehicle could have caught on fire with wires getting hot enough to melt the insulation in the fuel tank! how could this not have been a recall?

There have been two occasions that i have changed the fuel pump on my vehicle. It is extremely dangerous that it turns off suddenly. I am so afraid that this might just happen worst thing is that there are no light indicators that will tell you that there is something wrong.

In heavy traffic, the vehicle lost power unexpectedly.the fuel injector malfunctioned.this was due to water leaking to this area asit is not properly protected.

Fuel heater (previously recalled) cracked and spilled fuel on highway and vehicle presenting a fire and environmental hazard.incident occurred while traveling highway at highway speeds.

Bmw fuel pump recallvehicle is hard to start and it is progressively getting worse.there is a mandatory nhtsa mandated fuel pump recall on this vehicle.we received the owner notification letter.i was told by the dealer at first that the fuel pump is not available.after i persisted the dealer stated that the fuel pump is available but that they have to perform a diagnostic first. A)it is unlawful to charge a diagnostic fee in conjunction with a federally mandated recall.b) the fuel pump issue has been known to bmw for many years (bmw had a voluntary reimbursement of fuel pump repairs in place until nhtsa mandated the recall of all vehicles with the affected fuel pump.)the fuel pump should be installed and the parts should be readily available.i just talked with bwm of north america customer service.they stated:* i would have to take the vehicle to the dealer and have a diagnostic run* i would be charged for the diagnostic if it turns out to be an issue other than the fuel pump* if it turns out that the fuel pump module is defective, then i would not have to pay the diagnostic feethis illegally ties a different service (that i may have to pay) to a federally mandated recall.it is not in dispute that the fuel pump recall is mandatory.it is bmw's allocation of parts availability that may result in me having to pay the diagnostic fee.

#5 & 6 fuel injectors had to be replaced in july 2015. #5 fuel injector had to be replaced again in july 2016. Same mechanic performed both repairs. He advised and gave me a "technical service bulletin" that described fuel injector faults and factory covered repairs. - please advise me of this- there is no outstanding recall that i can find for this.

My wife had a harrowing experience with the 09 bmw-x5 locking itself with the key in the car. Remote key was inside the car in her purse on the passenger seat- untouched by anyone. Car was parked with engine off. Car locked itself after our two kids were secured in the backseats and their doors shut with my wife outside! it was over 90 degrees outside and she did not have much time to call for help.my 5 year old's attempts to open the door resulted in alarm going off and everything shut down. Finally, by luck, she was able to guide the 5 year old to get to the front seat and locate the key from the purse and unlock the car. If it was only the 2 year old inside, she had no option but to break the window! this is a really scary situation for a luxury car and a brand new one. It had never happened to us.surely we do not want to experience this again and wish it on no one else! we suspect that it had to be something to do with the electronics. It has not occurred again in the last 3 days. The remote key in these cars are designed in such a way that the car should not be able to lock itself with the key inside the car and the driver out!

My daughter was put in the backseat in a hot (100f) car and strapped in.my wife placed her purse (keys in it) on the middle console. The door was shut and locked on its own, locking my child in the car.we called bmw assist to remotely unlock the car.this did not work.police and fire was called and showed up on seen.a neighbor fireman came and broke the window.the car still would not unlock and my wife crawled through the broken window cutting her leg to get my now hot, red and lethargic child out of the car.afterward, the car still would not unlock for 2 hours.

The contact owns a 2009 bmw x5. The contact stated that she inadvertently placed the vehicle into reverse and the auto park function shifted into park. When the contact exited the vehicle, the auto park disengaged and the vehicle rolled backwards. The vehicle was taken to flow bmw (2565 peters creek pkwy, winston-salem, nc 27127, 366-788-3333) for diagnostic testing, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified and a field representative came to the contact's residence where it was diagnosed that there was water in the transmission case. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.

I was driving on the 95 south, between exit 28 to 39( willmington area, ma) yesterday ( 5/18/13) about 6:30pm. I was on fast lane, driving about 70 mph, suddenly the car lost power, the dashboard warning sign showing power output down. The speed of car suddenly dropped, i had to pull over to breakdown lane, but the cars behind me could not stop quick enough, it collided with my back bumper, luckily no personal injury, and the car only got slight scratch. Thanks to the cars behind me slowed down in time.it was so scare for me, never had such thing asloss of power before on highway. There must be something wrong with the bmw electronic design. To avoid other accidents, please investigate this thoroughly. It could cause fatal results if happens to someone else. Thanks.

While driving at speeds up to 70 mph, the vehicle shuts off completely with no warning signs. When vehicle shuts off, all systems are completely off including power steering, antilock braking, the engine itself, all electrical systems, lights - everything completely powerless. The contact owns a 2009 bmw x5. While driving, the contact smelled something burning from the air conditioning vents and smoke began to fill the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. The failure occurred numerous times, which resulted in a crash. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. The contact received a notice for nhtsa campaign number: 17v683000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was taken to the dealer (bmw of south atlanta, 4171 jonesboro rd, union city, ga 30291 (770) 969-0755). The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that parts were not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 160,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

The contact owns a 2009 bmw x5. The contact stated that an abnormal noise could be heard from the rear of the vehicle while traveling various speeds. The failure occurred without warning. Bmw of denver downtown (1040 s colorado blvd, denver, co) diagnosed that the driveshaft was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 68,247.

I was driving on the freeway and suddenly i felt a power loss. Shortly after i realized i had no power steering.immediately, i pulled over and looked under the hood and saw the drive belt tensioner pulley was broken and was out of place.

My seat belt light comes on it starts beeping without anyone or anything on the seat it's very annoying and unsafe i would imagine if i was to get into a car accident would my airbag deploy or not giving false reading this happens while driving

The contact owns a 2009 bmx x5. The contact noticed that the air bag warning indicator illuminated, which was a safety concern. The vehicle was taken to bmw of monterey (1 geary plaza, seaside, ca 93955, (831) 920-0743) where it was diagnosed that the passenger seat mat sensor failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in any recalls. The failure mileage was 95,116.

The front passenger seat has a permanent malfunction of occupancy detection. The airbag "off" light is illuminated while a passenger is occupying the seat. This is an obvious safety fault, and fails to meet current dot regulations. I do not feel comfortable putting my passengers at risk while they sit there!

Bmw x5 2009 4.8is (v8).brake master cylinder and brake booster failed causing sudden and unexpected loss of braking while driving.no in dash alerts or diagnosis shown before or after the incident.braking fault was permanent not intermittent.vehicle is under bmw warranty.upon inspection, bmw technicians have advised brake master leaked fluid into booster and that they found oil contamination in the master cylinder.this sudden braking failure could have resulted in serious damage and fatalities. (previously experienced auto hold parking brake failure which was not fixed for over a year due to backordered parts.) following the technical diagnosis, bmw is yet to respond to driver.

When let go of brake after stopping at red light, very often that this vehicle makes a suddent jump. This happens so often that cause a safety concern.

***update to nhtsa id complaint number: 10662420.***vehicle vin is [xxx].bmw x5 2009 xdrive48i (v8 model).[this vin is not recognized by nhtsa vin lookup / database.]bmw investigation was being handled by [xxx]in "spi" (special products investigation), who was generally non-responsive to phone calls and emails.the few responses received were deliberately evasive and / or falsified purported attempts to return calls.case was transferred to [xxx]in executive customer care, who indicated that spi was unable to determine the cause of the brake failure because they never received the defective component.(note:the faulty component was handled by bmw service at century west bmw in los angeles, who stated that the parts had been sent to spi for investigation.)bmw states that since they have been unable to analyze the failed component, it is possible that the failure was due to reasonable wear and tear and not due to a manufacturer's defect. (they are therefore taking the position that they are unwilling to cover the minor damage that was sustained to the rear of the vehicle when the brakes failed while reversing.)i am very concerned that bmw has not handled a potentially deadly fault with due care.it is unacceptable that 3 months after a brake failure event, they have been unable to carry out a proper investigation into the cause of the failure.it is also unacceptable that bmw believes a 5 year old vehicle could suffer a catastrophic brake failure and that such a fault could be within the reasonably expected wear and tear cycle of the components.this position puts the lives of road users in the vicinity of a 5 year old or 60,000 mile bmw with potentially defective braking components in peril.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

He managed to pull to the side of the road and saw that the rear driver's side was on fire. The fire was able to be extinguished using snow and water. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where they advised him that the caliper was hanging and caused a brake failure, which ultimately led to the fire. The vehicle was repaired for the calipers, rotors, brake pads, shocks, axle and brake lines. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure and the current mileages were approximately 47,300. The vin was unavailable.

After sitting idle in the car for 5 minutes i decided to drive off, the steering wheel started to lock and a burning smell came from the ac, after turning off the ac the steering wheel worked normal but when turning it back on the smell came and the steering wheel locked.

Power steering does not work when driving.

The engine idler pulley bolt broke while vehicle was in motion on highway. Vehicle iost all power steering. Alternator warning lamp illuminated along with warning message "charging malfunction". The bolt had previously been replace in 2012.

There have been two occasions that i have changed the fuel pump on my vehicle. It is extremely dangerous that it turns off suddenly. I am so afraid that this might just happen worst thing is that there are no light indicators that will tell you that there is something wrong.

I have 2009 bmw x5 xdrive 48i , 148700 mile on it .i am facing a big un safety problems with the malfunction in drive in transmission and awd and dsc have malfunctioned. This problems on bmw x5 2009 it's from the car and this model exactly and this problem happened with me lat week and the car it start of when i drive it sometimes by it self and didn't know what to do i cannot handle it and i need recall for this to fix it at the dealer near me please

When let go of brake after stopping at red light, very often that this vehicle makes a suddent jump. This happens so often that cause a safety concern.

2009 bmw x535dactive fuel tank sensor not working

Bad water pump at 43886 miles. Bmw is recalling x5 from 2008 through 2011 but when i called [email protected] they told me there is no recall on this vehicle. How can bmw calls their vehicles "ultimate driving mechanics" when water pump fails at 43886 miles which cost me $1318.29.labor cost $803 for less than 1.5 hours work. Bmw must acknowledge the water pump failure at low mileage.

The complete windshield washing system stopped working during an extended road trip.pumps no longer engage.because the washing system stopped working, this has contributed to the destruction of all wipers on the car.failure of the washer pumps and relays is a very common issue with bmws.

The contact owns a 2009 bmw x5. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when the instrument panel illuminated for the tpms monitor. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that front side driver's side rim had a stressed crack that was causing a deflated tire. The rim and tire was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 71000.
