Takata recall sludge forming in oil unit
The first occurrence was november 15 2015. The shut down happens intermittently without warning. After sitting 24 hours, the vehicle reboots and will start - it is then good for 7 days until it happens again. Several repair shops have diagnosed, but cannot identify/duplicate problem. Battery replaced, but did not remedy issue. First occurrence, vehicle was at complete stop - various messages on nav screen (warnings: transmission malfunction, warned if vehicle is turned off, will not start again); on dash all lights were illuminated. Turned vehicle off, did not start again, as noted on nav screen. Next day, started with no problem. Towed toshop, but could not duplicate. Drove one week, then park brake came on. Next day, same alerts-this time while driving. Did not restart after turning off. Was able to start after 24 hours, but could only drive a few feet before totally shutting down in middle of the street while make a u turn. Towed to shop that night. Next morning, shop could not duplicate, as vehicle ran smoothly. Following week, returned to shop for further testing. Battery replaced and registered. When picking up vehicle, noticed nav screen was black, would not illuminate. 4 days later, it came on, but went out again the following day.the next day, engine shut down on interstate. While waiting for tow, wipers came on, door locks and windows would not work. Could not roll down window or open door to talk to safety patrol. Patrol jump started vehicle. It was later towed to dealer (where purchased). Nav screen is still black, dvd and cd do not work (cd changer spits out cds). Shifts very hard between gears. I am very afraid to drive this vehicle, as it cuts off intermittently and without notice. However, i have no choice, as i recently purchased it in august 2015; and i have too much negative equity to trade it for another vehicle.

I have been experiencing seat belt problems for years.there's a recall on the bmw x5 but i'm not sure why my vehicle is not on the recall list.there are 3 others that have the same seat belt issues.
Bill pearce bmw (billpearcebmw.com/) in reno, nv has in no way resolved these recalls in a timely manner. I have made at least 10 calls over the last 17 months to their service/parts department to inquire on availability of replacement parts. The engine is not running at its optimal level and is potentially getting damaged as a result of the faulty fuel pump that is under recall. I am driving at my and my family's risk due to both airbags and fuel pump not meeting safety regulations and bmw is being negligent in treating these 3 recalls as a priority. I have also escalated the matter to bmw customer relations on 7/26/17 and am awaiting their response. There is no incident related to this complaint, but i strongly believe the vehicle is not safe to drive. I have indicated the date of the first communication received by bmw as well as uploaded a pdf version of their initial notification.

Brought my 2008 x5 in for the crankcase (pcv) recall.the dealer (the bmw store in cincinnati) told me the serpentine belt had to be removed for the repair and while removing the belt, the tensioner pully fell off.this was described as "due to an existing broken bolt" in the engine block.the dealer said i would either have to pay to repair or they would put the car back as found and can not be held if the car broke down.is the dealer liable to repair this since the car was fully operational when it was brought in for the recall?

When a people seat on the passenger seat, the light "airbag of the passenger seat is off" is on. And the led panel shows "restrain system malfunction". I get my car checked at the dealership, they said this is due to the fault of the sensor in the seat and will make the airbag not deploy in an accident. Actually, this problem has been there for a while but only happen occasionally (one time a month), and can be solved by change sitting position a little bit. When i checked in the service, nothing wrong was found.he said the same problem exists in older models (e.g. 2005, 2006), which are in the recall list of bmw. But mine is not in and i need to pay $1400 to get it repaired. I think this is a really important issue since it disables the airbag, which is the most important safety equipment. My car is in a very good condition and serviced regularly. There is no reason it faults in such a low mileage and age. Many users in the bmw forum has the same issue, but is under risk or got to pay for the repair. I hope bmw can take care of this issue to recall the cars that are potentially in risk.
Bmw passenger seat airbag/seat restraint system has a malfunction. The system says there is a problem with the passenger seat and/or airbag restraint system or seatbelt or belt tensioners. There is a red light on the dash indicating failure of the system. This light comes and goes. Sometimes the light comes on even when no one is in the seat. I've googled this and it seems a lot of people are having the same issue with this. I'm not sure if the airbag is really effected or if it is a sensor malfunction. I see there are similar complaints listed here for this same issue.

I received a notice in the mail that i have a important safety recall from bmw of north america. The recall is for a drivers front air bag module. Today 3/31/2016 i contacted two different dealerships (ft. Worth, tx location on white settlement road, and the arlington, tx location located off of lamar ave). Both locations said they have no idea when the parts will be coming in to replace the air bag module. I find it unacceptable to tell me its an important safety recallthat could cause rupturing air bag resulting in metal fragments if i get into a wreck, and not have a date of when i can get this corrected.

Vehicle is showing passenger restraint system failure. The error was intermittent earlier during the year i.e it will show up while driving but will go away upon restarting the car. My 4 year warranty period expired in april 2012. When i had taken it for final warranty service i had mentioned it to the dealer (bmw of rockville) but at that time they said that nothing is wrong since vehicle diagnoses is not showing anything. Now within 5 months this failure is permanent and dealer is asking $454 for repair - what a piece of garbage this car is. Never again am i buying a bmw.

I had already submitted a complaint under 10586821 due to the radiator but did not include that the mechanic said that the reason that radiator went out was because of the malfunction of the water pump which i also had to replace.i was told to amend the complaint once received but i never received anything in the mail.bmw knows that there is a problem and refuses to fix it. Also the passenger airbag indicator has been on for over a year. I was told that i would have to remove and have the airbags and sensors replace. What is the purpose of having something that is suppose to be for safety but it's malfunctioning. Therefore i have airbags that are not going to protect anyone in the course of an accident. This is also a common problem with bmw. This is not an age of car item because i had less than 40,000 miles when the indicator came on.
Takata recall.airbag front passenger and restraint seat belt, don't want anything happening when i'm driving it might cause a accident.

It fault in passenger-restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner or belt-force limiter.continue to wear the safety belf.
I purchased a 2008 x5 new in oct 07. In sept 08 i started to have major problems with the brake system. Squealing-low pedal,3 major brake system repairs,1 minor repair and it needs to be towed in again because the problem remains. The service manager of the selling dealer advised bmwusa to replace the vehicle due to the dangerous and numerous problems with this car. Bmwusa marketing refused-what mechanical expertise do they possess-none and they continue to put my safety in danger and ignore the problem. Just an example in oct 2008 the brake pads were 10mm-in april 09 they were 2mm and bmw told me i was safe to drive 1700 miles from fl to ny. A florida dealer had to replace every rotor-pad and sensor, and less than 2 weeks later the rear brakes and sensors needed replacement again but so much for bmwusa knowing anything or caring. These people are useless and dangerous--do not buy an x5 from this company, because even after their own svc manager states to replace the vehicle they say there is nothing wrong and don't give a [xxx] about your safety. Stay away from bmw. Damage resulting = this car cost almost 60k, the kids finished college so it was time to buy a car i always wanted--im out all this money, cant drive the car with this problem and bmw cares less--since when should a marketing guy make decisions about mechanical problems, and then over the advice of a trained service manager. My dashboardlight flick engine , abs, parking break will shut off vehicle less than 10min driving with caution.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. The contact stated that the air conditioner failed to function while attempting to be used. Also, while driving approximately 55 mph, smoke appeared under the hood of the vehicle. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to bimmer car care (2017 wabash ave, chicago, il 60616) where it was diagnosed that the blower fan needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
Right rear sunroof drain did not drain properly causing electrical malfunction includingfailure of all safety and dash gauges - (including speedometer, gas gauge) on interstate at freeway speed.repairs exceed $1,500.00.
While driving on the highway, the dashboard give error that the transmission has failed. Car loses power and would not accelerate. Pulled over to the sign and turned off engine. Subsequently, engine will not start or crank as if battery power is list. Engine can be restarted with a jumper or if the car is left for about 30 minute to an hour, the engine will start without a jumper.
After the check engine light came on we took our vehicle to a local shop conway motors in everett, wa.conway motors diagnosed the problem as a fuel pump and the wiring was burnt connecting the fuel pump.mark at conway motors called bmw to see if there was a recall and was surprised when bmw parts in seattle stated there was not a recall but they were familiar with the problem and there had been other similar complaints with burnt wiring connected to the fuel pump. Mark advised we could not drive the vehicle and we were lucky the vehicle had not exploded.my wife drives this vehicle daily to work and bmw is aware of the issue but has not done a recall is totally unacceptable and put my wife's life in danger.
Vehicle shut off while stopped. A smell of hot electrical was present immediately before the shut off. Inspection of the vehicle showed a blown fuse for the fuel pump circut, as well as melting of the plastic power connection to the fuel pump, and the insulation on the power wires themselves. The bare wires were exposed at the connection. The wiring harness was stiff from the connector of the fuel pump to the rubber seal on the body.
I noted that the vehicle was not running properly so i took the suv into an authorized bmw service center to be inspected and repaired.i was notified that the vehicle had experienced a burned up wiring harness from a short circuit to the disa valve on the engine.i was also notified that cylinders 1, 3 and 5 had failed ignition coils, which was the reason for the poor operating performance.i was also informed that the vanos valves were sticking and may need replacing.prior to the poor running performance, last year we experienced the car filling with smoke and had to evacuate the children and adults from the car when driving the car.the car was inspected and no problems were discovered and the smoke did not return, no codes were found.a few months later, november 2014, the car suffered a "major drive failure" warning message and would not shift into gear from an engine idle condition.car was towed to a bmw mechanic and inspected.it was discovered that a fuse had blown and was replaced without further incident.from an engineering and design perspective, no wire on a car should melt and burn, since fuses are required to protect the circuits to prevent that very event.bmw of turnersville, nj completed the inspection under invoice #[xxx].i fell bmw should replace the failed wiring harness and disa valve, since it caused the fire by its failure.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I was driving on the highway at 65mph suddenly the vehicle display the message that the engine temperature was too hot and advise me to pull over. Within 2 seconds, the car slow itself down inthe middle of traffic despite my foot was pressing on the gas pedal. I had to immediately pull over to the shoulder to get out of traffic. I had the car towed to the bmw and it turn out the water pump had stop pumping water to the engine, causing it to overheat. Bmw charged me $1200 to fix it bit i feel like there should be a recall for this issue since a quick internet search reveal numerous people who have the exact same problem as mine. I also found out that bmw did issue a recall for the same year and model as mine but only on the less popular, bigger engine version.
The 2008 x5 3.0l started to sound like a jet engine with the super loud fan noise.i thought the car was going to blow up.took the car in for repair, and luckily the engine hadn't overheated yet.they found that the water pump was faulty, which caused the wiring to burn out, and observed oil leakage near engine.if i had driven the car any more, it would have caused significant damage to the engine of the vehicle.bmw service center told me that i have to replacethe water pump, thermostat, and other parts including gasket something. Thank you.
My 2008 bmw x5 is reporting high battery drain and it's only 13 months old with 5,000 miles.the dealer states the issue is because the vehicle is not driven at least 25 miles a day.if this is a requirement to owning the vehicle it was never mentioned when i purchased the vehicle.my own research on the internet indicates this is a well known problem by bmw.yet the only solution offered is to replace the battery prematurely as it fails or hook the battery up to a trickle charger every night.as stated above, i was never informed this is a requirement of owning the vehicle.i realize this is not an immediate or impending safety threat. However, bmw should be held accountable to finding a solution for the consumer or recalling the vehicle so we have some recourse.
Water leakage on driver side rear- as well as accumulating in spare tire well submerging battery in 3 inches of water. Hi-fi amplifier - bluetooth- navigation- radio- sos damaged from this. All windows shut and vehicle filled with water.
The x5 displayed a digital message on the dash front panel stating: "left brake light malfunction". I removed the panel where the back tail lights are located and found that the driver's brake light plastic carrier, where the bulb sits, was burnt brown, melted and cracked open. I then proceeded to check the passenger side and to my surprise, i found that the same exact circumstance had happened. I believe the bulb is too hot and too close to the plastic carrier, causing the melting. In my opinion, on top of maybe causing an accident due the malfunction of the brake lights, it is an electrical issue, that in the worst case scenario can cause a fire. I believe this matter should be investigated by the agency. I called bmw ag, manufacturers and they replied that they don't have a recall for this vehicle with this specific problem. I owe a 528i, 2010 as well, and i received a recall letter last week to take it back for, as they stated > this recall involves the bulb carrier ("bulb holder") within the rear lamp. Within the bulb carrier, the electrical contacts may be susceptible to corrosion due to aging and environmental influences. I took the 528i to the dealership today and both tail lights bulb carriers were replaced, due to the recall notice i received, so it was fixed to standards.i took 8 very clear pictures of the melted plastic bulb carrier of the x5, 2008, i can send you if needed, to back up my complaint.thanks for the kind attention you give to this matter and hoping to hear from you in a very near future, i remain,v/r,bmw x5, 2008, owner.
Engine stalled at traffic light. Unable to restart car. Everything completely locked down. Car had to be towed.
Vehicle started smoke from engine area and caught on fire. Vehicle was in motion driving on a city street at normal speed. I pulled over and got myself and child out of vehicle. Vehicle preceded to burn and was fully engulfed. Fire fighters extinguished fire.
My car is stock inside my garage with a parking brake malfunction error. The parking brakes will not release even when i tried manually. I had to tow the car to the dealer to fix the problem. I called bmw us but they told me that there are no recalls to fix this common problem which many owner are complaining about.
Kept getting mail about a recall my car had didnt think it was that important so i stalled the process a little until i kept getting mail non stop about the matter so i finally find the time to take my car to get the recall done of course i imagined it will be a walk in the park due to the fact that it was free of charge , so after i get the recall done for fuel pump and airbags i pick vehicle up from the dealer everything seems to be fine , next day comes my car leaves me stranded on a random block and completely shuts down on me , what makes matters worst now im stuck somewhere and have to get a tow truck to take me somewhere im not bothering or move me out the way , i contact the dealer tel them whats going on they make me pay a tow truck to bring the car to them again , so i bring the car to the dealer and let them check over the work they just did on my car because i wasnt having any problems with my car before this literally none maybe a lightbulb went out that was about it nothing else even passes inspection with flying colors , so anyways pass that now they telling me that the problem is in the fuel system that they just was suppose to replace mind you i never had a problem with my vehicle and ive owned it a few years , so now i got this recall done and now this problem comes up , so now i agree to pay them 1100$ just to fix something that was suppose to be free which im not happy about one bit not only they take longer then they suppose too working on my car but few days after i pay them and take my vehicle now the same problem again !! get stranded so now im not thinking going back because i cant afford to have something else come up and have to pay once again ! so as of now i had to take my car to my own personal mechanic so he can fix a problem my car never had prior to this recall visit im furious and spend over 3000 trying to clean up the dealers mess !
Brake light bulbs are installed in plastics that are melted quickly by the time which creates fire risk. I opened both brake light bulbs and saw that both sides are melted in plastics are completely black around from the heat.my car has unknown electrical issues that turns tons of lights and errors in my dashboard computer, then later on they go away.and also i smell burning smell sometimes.i believe all related to brakes bulbs are burning the inserts or somehow this model of bmw has electrical problems.last time on 1/28/2020 when we were driving from nj to ct on 95, car lost all of dashboard lights and details including speedometer, tacometer, miles, singals etc, all died and tons of error message poped up. But car drove just fine.
While driving with the heat on, there's a burning smell that come through the vents. Continue driving with heat on long enough and despite the smell, the right side(passenger) began to smoke, so bad you cant see to drive...while driving and you press on the gas to accelerate, it's not a smooth transition, u cant beat a honda...while driving every now and then u hear a loudscreechingsound till you turn your car off...in stationary position with the car on, its makes loud engine running sounds...the car also pulls to the right...
While driving on interstate 95 in philadelphia pennsylvania just north of the airport my vehicle simply shut off in post game rush hour traffic. The engine stopped running and the power steering and power brakes failed. It was nothing short of a miracle that me and my son were not harmed and that we were able to muscle to car off the road.this car had 66,000 miles on the odometer and according to bmw, after my call, was not part of the 2008 x5's voluntary recall for this model year with normally aspirated in-line 6 cylinder engines to replace the low- pressure fuel pumps. Interestingly, in the bmw press releasedated october 26, 2010 - 1130 am edt they stated that they had notified the ntsba that these pumps fail on my make and model of which they recalled 20,800 cars, the engine will stop running and the driver will lose power assist for the steering and brakes. Wow, at 50 mph on a super highway that was a nightmare and extremely dangerous.
I was left stranded on the 695 baltimore beltway after my vehicle displayed an over-heating signal in my dash.a few seconds later, the engine shut down and a red "engine overheated" signal appeared on my dash and i was only able to drive less than 5 miles an hour to move to safety (in the midst of many cars flying by me doing well over 65 mph).very scary situation.the other scary situation is that i am 3,000 miles out of warranty for this issue and i feel that because my vehicle is not the only reported incident of this type, bmw should repair the problem at no cost to me.a part such as this should not fail at 53000 miles.
2008 bmw x5 has a faulty fuel injector pump and battery.*njthe consumer stated the vehicle suddenly stopped in the middle of the highway. The consumer stated the vehicle stopped again in the middle of the highway after the fuel pump was supposedly replaced. The consumer was told again the fuel pump was faulty. The sunroof was inoperative and the camera used that gives guidance when backing out of spaces was inoperative as well.

I have been experiencing seat belt problems for years.there's a recall on the bmw x5 but i'm not sure why my vehicle is not on the recall list.there are 3 others that have the same seat belt issues.
On a recent ride home from vacation (summer 2014), my family and i had to endure our 2008 bmw x5 stalled out and slowed to about 30 mph on interstate 95.there were no warnings of a potential problem or any upcoming maintenance needed.the information screen stated cruise control/engine malfunction. We were extremely surprised, overly alarmed and frightened as this was a dangerous and unsafe event.we were not using and have never used the cruise control.my family was scared of this unsafe ordeal but thank god, no one was injured. After researching these conditions,we found this similar incident occur to many other x5 bmw owners and date back as far as 2001.this throttle body defect is a safety issue and can cause bodily harm or death.if this car decreases in power, especially on an interstate, serious and deadly accidents can occur.quite interesting is that this same diagnosis was identified with previous owners who've only owned their vehicles less than a year. Research shows this condition has been an issue for the past 10 years and bmw has not acknowledged, recalled and corrected the problem. My 2008 bmw x5 has about 52,000 and receive regular maintenance on time and as required. More important, the day before the incident we checked the vehicle system check and all systems were "ok."and two days later, the car shut down with no warning.my car was taken to northwest bmw in owings mills who diagnosed the problem as a throttle body defect.
I was driving my car under normal conditions, around 40mph and all of a sudden i started to loose the power to my car to the point that it shut down in the middle of the road.i called my husband and there was nothing we could do to start the car to move it to the side.it had to be towed to the dealership to reset some electronics and was told its a safety issue on the car.i asked them to explain to me what would happen if i was on the new jerseyturnpike or staten island expressway or route 17 in nj what would happen . No explanationwell i can explain it . I would probably be rear ended and cause a pile up.i think this needs to be looked into.i wonder how many times this has happened and the accidents it has caused.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. While driving 15 mph, the vehicle lost power and multiple warning indicators illuminated. The contact's spouse had to turn the steering wheel sharply to reach the shoulder of the road before almost being sideswiped by another vehicle. Prior to the failure, the vehicle was serviced per an unknown recall. The vehicle was taken to bmw of bel air maryland (716 bel air rd, bel air, md 21014, (443) 345-2712) where a diagnostic failure code could not be found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,526.
Warning came engine overheating stop and call dealer.cooling fan blowing at full speed as if plane has started. Took to local mechanic who diagnosedwater pump failure and told after 5 years majority of these cars having this problem and he has repaired many of them.
This morning when i started the vehicle i noticed a loud sound coming from the bottom of the engine near the pulleys. It sounded if though something was coming a loose. When i got out to check it the sound cleared or toned down. It sounded like it was coming from the water pump. While traveling on the freeway a low coolant light came on. I pulled off and checked the coolant level and it was in between low and max. I filled the coolant level up to max. The low coolant light remained on after parking it for two hours. I'm taking it to the dealer in the morning to see if its what i think it is, ( the water pump ). There should be a recall on this issue , i've read too many complaints. Can anybody help me with any updated info on this?

Car was driven at 25 mph. Stopped at destination for approx 10 min. When restarted made loud blower sound but kept driving at 25 mph. After about 10-15 secs, message came that " engine is overheated and drive at moderate speeds" . In about 10 secs after that, message changed to " engine overheated, stop to let it cool down" . Stopped immediately. Called an independent mechanic who advised hat car be towed to their garage problem has still not been diagnosed. Car is very well maintained.
2008 bmw x5 with 49k miles was traveling at 65 mph on freeway when yellow engine overheat warning came on along with instruction to drive moderately. After 20 seconds, red alert came on indicating engine overheated and car stalled to 20 mph on busy freeway. The car was stopped on side of freeway and allowed to cool down for 10 minutes. When car was restarted, same warnings came on, and car had to be stopped. The breakdown cause was diagnosed to a failed water pump.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated with a message stating that the engine was overheating. Started my 2008 bmw x5 4.8i with only 90,000 miles a big puddle formed under the car. Towed the car to independent shop they said the alternator bracket gasket went bad prematurely noted by the repair shop said it's a common factory defect an that there might be a recall out for this.
I was driving about 20 mph and all of the sudden i heard a snap noise and steering wheel became hard to move, i managed to park the car safely and turns out the bolt that holds the tensioner pulley broke off. The repair is thousands of dollars, i almost had an accident and because i was only doing 20 mph i managed to avoid an accident and others safety. Imagine if i was on the highway doing 70 mph. I would like bmw to pay for my repair and make it doesn't happen anymore to me or anyone else.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning. After restarting the vehicle, a rumbling noise was heard coming from the engine. While driving my vehicle in motion, a warning sensor came on stating that my vehicle engine was overheating. Then, my vehicle came to a complete stop, making it unable to drive.
Will in the middle lane of 3 lanes of traffic, the yellow engine overheat light appeared. Within a few minutes that yellow light turned to red engine overheat, turn off the vehicle to cool down. I did my best to exit the highway and pull over without causing an accident. I waited nearly 2 hours before i could get towed off to the side of the highway. I had the vehicle diagnosed and the bmw of austin dealership advised i will need a water pump replaced to the tune of $766!! since my car has over 50k miles, i am outside the warranty. I know there was a recall for the 2010-2011 v8 version of the same car i have for the same faulty part--electric water pump. I believe this same failure affects my 2008 4.8i x5 sav. Please do something to help those of us who have put our lives at risk on highways with this sudden water pump failures.

Car stalled and the message appeared on the dash board "engine too hot. Pull over and contact bmw representative". The issue is the water pump going bad causing engine to become hot. The dealer is saying that a new water pump is required.
Ongoing problems with failing parts on a sav with only 67,000 miles. Issues include leaking valve cover gasket, leaking brake vacuum pump, drive belts worn (a/c and main), water pump failure. Expensive repairs (some completed, some yet to be completed). Also, idrive doesn't work. Many bmw x5 owners are experiencing the exact same issues, even with mileages as low as 40,000. Bmw says "tough luck." bmw needs to issue recalls on several of these components for free replacement but have not done so. How can they get away with this?
The vehicle shakes, runs rough and turns itself off when braking/stopped at red lights. I have taken the car to bmw naples and another repair shop. They requested i have a tune up and replace two sensors which i have done. Thousand of dollars later and the problem was not fixed. No one can tell me what the problem is. I have researched it online and found other people are having the same problem with their bmw x5.

I purchased a 2008 bmw x-5 with 50,000 miles on the odometer.i was shown proof from the used car dealership that the vehicle had only one prior owner, a female in her mid 50's.although the vehicle was immaculate and looked brand new, it needed a new right rear air suspension bag 3 months after the purchase and started leaking oil.since purchasing the vehicle in 2012 i have continued to take the vehicle back to the same dealership at which time they clean the oil underneath, remove gaskets and bolts and reassemble everything to include using generous amounts of silicone.i recently took the vehicle back to the dealership and the owner did his usual "patch job" but he said this isn't working anymore and that the oil leak is actually coming from a failed gasket that is not accessible without removing the motor to the tune of $6,000 or more.the owner of the dealership further mentioned that the left rear air suspension bag has failed and needs to be replaced, as the car sits off camber while parked.the most important thing is that my vehicle had one owner, a middle aged female, my wife drives the car to the supermarket and kids school, not the race track so the failed gasket is clearly not the result of abusive driving, rather a manufacturers defect.according to the owner of the dealership, the 4.8 liter v-8 in my 2008 x-5 has been recalled for the same problem in the bmw 5,6 and 7 series.i am wondering if and when their might be a recall on the x-5's, as i do not have the money to replace the vehicle, yet i cannot afford to pay $6,000 + to fix the problem.i have talked with a lot of people both in and out of the car industry and the consensus is growing stronger and stronger that bmw uses faulty gaskets on purpose to make their money on the service end.bmw, the ultimate "servicing machine."my 2003 ford explorer, 218,000 miles has never had an issue?
While driving the vehicle at apx 65 mph, check engine light came on, red indicator light came on, and engine overheating notification displayed. Vehicle slowed to 20mph and would not drive. After sitting for 20 minutes, attempted to restart vehicle, overheating message still present. Vehicle was towed to shop, where diagnosed with faulty water pump. Called bmw to notify them of the problem, and mentioned recall 11v521000 - offered no assistance. Incident happened at apx 60k miles.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the engine warning indicator continuously illuminated. The contact maneuvered to the shoulder where the engine was shut down. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the failure was contributed to the water pump and thermostat. Thevehicle was currently being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000. The vin was unavailable.
Water pump problem of the 2008 bmw x5engine overheated warning message illuminated when driving on high way with 65mph with a reduced power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the water pump was defective and needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 53k.
Thank you.
My 2008 x5 3.0si started just out of the blue to have this super loud fan noise while driving in town to pick up my kids. It was not even hot outside so i was wondering what's wrong with it. Also got the water overheating warning. Brought the car to the dealer and it was determined that the water pump was faulty. Cost me almost $1400.00 and the car had only 37000 miles on the clock. Why is there no recall for the 2008 6cylinder engine?
Was driving about 65 miles when the warning light came engine malfunction notification, engine overheated ... To drive moderately.i pulled over waited a few minutes and drove off again.5 minutes later light comes back up and says engine overheated stop...call for service.car now in shop.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. The contact stated the windshield wipers continued to move while the engine was off, and the vehicle also stalled without warning. The dealer reset the main computer, removed the dashboard and replaced the windshield relay module; however, the repairs did not correct the failures; therefore, the dealer advised there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage were 91,000. Updated 10/31/13*lj
The water pumped failed in the middle of a 4 lane divided hwy the vehicle is a 2008 bmw x5 and only has 47000 miles on it.
My dashboardlight flick engine , abs, parking break will shut off vehicle less than 10min driving with caution.
I was driving home from store when the coolant fan came on and would not go off. Display stated that the engine was over heating and if it continues take it in for service. The next morning i turned on the car and the same thing happened and was told not to drive the car because could damage the engine. Had the car towed and was told that it was the radiator. Was told that bmw resigned the radiator there for the hoses had to be done over. There was never any other indication prior to this. Was on my way driving out of town. Looked online and it appears that this is a common problem. This should not be happening with only 46,000 miles on the car. I have been the original owner.
My bmw occasionally stalls at a low speed after a brake or in a turn. The engine is quietly off and the engine light is on. When i restart the engine, the engine light is off and it drives normal. It looks like a minor problem, but can be hazardous. At one time, my car stalled after i made a brake and started to turn. Suddenly i feel the steer wheel is locked and i lost some brake force. I almost crashed into the brick fence at the side of the road. It was really scary. I think it could be even more dangerous if it happen in certain circumstances, for example, brake before entering a highway, slow turning on a bridge.i've sent my car to the dealer and they traced no error and problems, and ask me to drive until the problem become more obvious. I wouldn't do this because with this problem the car may become a killing machine for myself and other people on the road. I do hope you can help me to contact bmw to find a solution.

The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5.the contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the message 'engine temperature high, drive slowly to cool the engine' and the engine warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the electric auxiliary pump failed.the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
While driving at 35 mph a loud noise started coming from engine compartment, sounded as if the fan was running at warp speed. A few miles later a warning came on stating engine was running hot, i pulled off to the side of the road and allowed it to cool down. After it cooled down i drove 2 more miles to my office and called a tow truck to send to bmw dealership. Bmw informed me the electric water pump went out and need replacement at a cost of $1400.00.internet shows 38,000 recalls of x-5 for water pump problem but just my luck my car is excluded.i am waiting on a response from bmw usa regarding my request to have issue covered.my vehicle has only 40,000 miles and we have already replaced the fuel pump, the fuel pump relay and now the water pump. This car was over $70,000 when purchased and you would think they would stand behind their product.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the coolant level low, pull over warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The contact was able to drive home and added coolant into coolant reservoir however, the coolant leaked out. Prior to the failure, the contact stated that the engine fan could be heard from the engine while driving at various speeds, and that light gray smoke would emit from the engine. The contact had an independent mechanic come to her home who inspected the vehicle and informed her of nhtsa campaign number: 12e029000 (engine and engine cooling) which he linked to the failure. The contact then called the manufacturer who notified her that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to nhtsa for further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Computer system does not function properly, causing vehicle to go into transmission error mode-vehicle abruptly loses power and speed while driving. This has happened on highway (saw our lives flash before our eyes as semis bore down on us and almost drove over us/other vehicles trying to avoid collisions and in town with several near-collisions involving ours' and other vehicles. Vehicle has had several recalls and computer system has been updated at our expense with problem not resolved and we are told we need new tranny.we do not believe this is so as when you turn off vehicle and turn it back on-code disappears and car drives fine until you go up a hill or let foot off accelerator/ accelerate, ect.instead of addressing the problem with the computer system, dealerships make bank on replacing transmissions that soon fail again due to the computer issues.
Overheating issue. I fixed the thermostat and the water hose but car immediately overheated once i got on the highway. This caused the car to immediately shut down on the freeway. This was a very dangerous situation.
My wife was driving to pick up my son from school and she noticed a loud humming noise after about 15 minutes into the drive. The radiator fan kicked in because the engine coolant got above a certain temperature. After 10 minutes the warning label popped up to stop as soon as possible due to coolant temperature high. Also no hot air was coming from the heater. My suspicion that the electric water pump was failed was also confirmed by my dealer billjacobs of naperville which did the repair on the 31.march 2015.

Check engine light came on - vehicle stalled abruptly. After some minutes waiting for the car to cool down, the vehicle was able to drive to a nearby parking area. The vehicle would not go further. Contacted nearest dealer who was 345 miles away. They agreed to tow the vehicle to get it fixed. The problem was a faulty water pump. The water pump, coolant and thermostat were replaced under warranty. We paid a deductible and the car was repaired. Judging by the number of complaints about this issue and the existing recall for the same vehicle model years 2010-2011, bmw should extend the recall to all affected e70 (x5) models including this 2008 one. We should not have to pay a deductible on what is clearly a dangerous defect. Had the vehicle been traveling on the highway at speed, an accident could have occurred given the way it stalled.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. While depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle stalled while going up a steep hill without warning. The vehicle was taken to rusnak bmw (3645 auto mall dr, thousand oaks, ca 91362, (805) 433-9576) where it was diagnosed with a failed valve in the engine. The contact was informed by the dealer that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to cost. The manufacturer was notified and a case was opened. No further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 111,778.

I was about less than 2 miles away from home and i was driving 35 mph. I heard a loud fan sound and in few sec i got a message in the display board saying engine over heating drive slowly. After few seconds another message showed in red that engine is over heated andthe vehicle did not move even pressing the pedal hard. Then i stopped the vehicle by pulling it to the side and let the engine cool for 15 min. Then i drove back home. When i was 50 yards away from home i got those two messages back one after the other. But, i drove it slowly to the drive way my house. Then i called the bmw dealer, let the vehicled towed their and the dealer diagnosed it as vehicle water pump is gone bad and it caused the over heat of the engine. Becuse of this thermo stat is alos gone bad. There is some other part gone bad because of this but i did not remeber it. The dealer told me that it cost me 1700 to fix the issue. I checked on the internet and several tens of people had this issue and needs to be recalled by bmw.

I was driving under heavy rain on april 20, 2012 in houston, tx. I first saw engine overheating warning sign on the dash and then misty smoke came out under the hood. I had to get off the highway and drove to a nearby repair shop. It was determined that the failure was due to a faulty water pump. I had a friend who has a 2008 bmw x5 and recently had the same issue. We believe that recall #11v521000 that concerns only 2010-2011 bmw x5 needs to be expanded to x5s of earlier years. Thank you for your consideration.
Car overheated while driving in the highway and onboard computer disabled the accelerator and message was flashed for the operator to stop driving.

I was told by the bmw dealer, my driver side rear brake bulb socket is melted to the housing because of the bulb heating up and i need to replace both sides housing, the bulb can not be removed because the socket is melted to the housing. I can not even change my blown bulb and it is given me a blown bulb signal on my dash board?
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. The contact stated that a warning light on the instrument panel indicated the rear drivers side brake light had malfunctioned. After removing the brake light assembly it was discovered that the bulb housing had melted and was damaged. The vehicle was taken to the local bmw dealer bmw of henderson, 261 auto mall dr. Henderson, nv. Who diagnosed that the entire brake light assembly would need to be replaced. The cause of the failure was not determined. The contact was also informed that the rear passenger side brake light that also experienced the same failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failures but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 98,000.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. The contact stated that the rear driver's side brake light malfunctioned. The bulb holder had turned black and was slightly melted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not inspected. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 52,200.
I had the light bulb sensor illuminate in my car.i brought the car to the local bmw dealer for light bulb replacement. The rear parking brake lenses are fused to the parking brake light bulbs.the light bulb can not be removed. There is a possibility of this lens catching on fire there are marks on the lens cover that shows this. I spoke to bmw north america and they would not replace.this is a safety issue it could catch on fire.i can not replace the bulb without replacing both lenses. My car will now not pass inspection in my state due to this issue..
A brake lamp malfunction light came on the dash board for, at first the left brake light, then later the right brake light. I opened the panel to replace the bulbs only to find that in both sides, the brake light housings were melted because the bulbs were so hot. The taillight housing were burned black and melted.this was less than an inches from the electrical wiring. I was surprised there wasn't a fire inside both panels. As goodwill, and to retain my loyalty, bmw of alexandria replaced both at no charge. Each assembly cost $500, and i needed two.customers should check to ensure this is not happening in their car before it is too late.

A brake lamp malfunction light came on the dash board for the right tail light, the mechanic opened the panel to replace the bulbs but found that the brake light housing was burned and melted and needed to be replaced.after looking over other lightening complaints, it seems as though this is a common issue with the 2008 bmw x5 and a potential fire hazard.it is also expensive to replace, my mechanic is quoting over $600 for one side and i fear i will have an issue with the other side.this should be addressed by bmw before there are any fires as a result of the defective tail light housing.
My brake lights were out.bmw has indicated that both sockets have melted to the point that they can't remove anything without breaking things.i did some research online and found that people have had this same thing and fires have started.worth investigating!
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. While driving approximately 30 mph making a left turn the vehicle stalled.she stated that the fuel gauge displayed the incorrect amount of fuel without warning. Driving on highway 60mph and suddenly lost engine power.my suv started slowing and felt like car was locking up ie. Steering wheel was harder to move.pushing accelerator pedal did not bring any speed back to slowing suv.i was able to get to right side shoulder from middle lane and called bmw assist for help.they were not able to help at my location in wisconsin at 8pm but did call police to keep traffic away from us (myself and 5 young children) until a friend came to pick us up.the car had to remain overnight on the highway until a flatbed truck was available to take it away the following morning.once the engine was turned off it would not restart and needed 2 men to move it which is why it couldn't be taken away that evening.once taken to the bmw dealer, international autos in milwaukee, wi, they told me the fuel pump had failed and they replaced it.the 2008 bmw x5 3.0si had a little over 33,000 miles on it at the time. This has not happened again after replacement of fuel pump.

2008 bmw x5 3.0si. Attorney writes on behalf of client in regards to incompetent repairs *tgwthe consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, because the check engine light illuminated.pursuant to a voluntary national bmw recall, the dealer replaced the fuel delivery unit on the vehicle. Eight days later, the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. The entire electrical system shut down. The consumer was unsuccessful at trying to restart the vehicle as it would not come out of park. A bmw technician came to the consumers location and his inspection revealed an issue with the fuel delivery system. The exact issue that the dealer had supposedly addressed a week prior. The gas gauge showed the gas level at a little under half a tank, when in fact the vehicle had ran out of gas. Apparently, the level float was stuck on the tank siphon which obstructed a proper reading of how much gas was in the tank.

My car started leaking gasoline from back under rear passenger tire, after i was running for more than one hour, i experienced gasoline smell and i checked it out and i saw a gasoline dripping from the area, the car was on and running but when i stopped the car i smelled gasoline so i fallowed the smell and i saw the dripping, i turned off and waited for the car to cool down, and i started after and the leak stopped, now i'm worried about it, because i can't drive the car to far or for to long because i might get bigger issues, because the leak is right before the muffler and the muffler gets hot , and maybe if a drip gets to the muffler something bad can happen, i just need some help with this issue, thank you
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5.the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and engaged into limp mode.the vehicle then stalled as the parking brake and engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted and was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the braking system failed and there was an xdrive malfunction. There was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 10v518000(fuel system, gasoline ) that could have been related to the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 19,150.
We are smell gasoline inside the cabin while we were driving and also when we stop we could still smell gasoline. We took in to the bmw shop on july 5, 2017, but they said they didn't the recall in-tank fuel pump part yet
Takata recall - it has been about 9 months and there is still no repair parts for the driver side airbag.no parts also for the passenger airbag and now fuel pump.

In october of2015 while making a right turn very slowly into a one lane drive thru, my bmw x5 accelerated climbed up a 2 foot wall that was on the drivers side rode the front drivers sidewheel upon the wall. I tried to break and pull the hand brake the car would not stop. I turned the steering wheel to the right the car hopped off the wall on to the ground and i turned off the car. The car just accelerated so fast and hard my sister and i could not believe how it climbed the tile wall with one wheel and came down to the ground. Now i had just got the car back from the dealership 5 days earlier when they replaced the water pump and replaced the 2 front tires and did a wheel alignment a $2500.00 job. It was very scary luckily there was no people or another car close by. I immediately called the dealership and took it in the next morning. I explained what happened i felt that the car had a malfunction with the accelerator it made the car go so fast and hard. It wasn't just a crash into the wall it climbed the wall. Of course bmw said the engineer said there is nothing wrong with the brakes or drive shaft? what gets to me is thati just got the car back from the local dealership. I feel like the power of the vehiclewas so strong and powerful there was no way that it could hop on the wall like that and not just crash straight into the wall. Oh side note the very next morning 10-12-2015 my sister heard on abc morning news that a bmw suv just ran into a glass window at a store the car accelerated on it's own!

We had a defective in-tank fuel pump replace in september 2016 by an independent mechanic. We then received a recall from bmw usa in december 2016. We've since had bmw san diego review the installation and they determined thatthe part installed was not a bmw part so bmw usa denied reimbursement under the tread act. We then confirmed with our mechanic that bmw parts were used and forwarded this info to bmw but they still refuse to reimburse. We replace a defective part and should be compensated . Reference; bmw correspondence [1-8113168403] . I asked for photos and their denial in writing and they refused to provide either. I saw the part initially removed and it was burned up inside the gas tank!!!

My 2008 x5 sport 4.8i with 76,000 miles in nor ca has had 3 petrifying episodes of engine stalling in the middle of the street while driving my kids to school and myself to work at low speed -sub 40mph in middle of 2016 and early 2017! thanks god we were saved and did not get rear ended from oncoming traffics because i was able to quickly pull the vehicle over into a side street and store plaza, but the incidents were frightful and traumatized our well-being! 2 out of 3 incidents, the vehicle could not be driven (made loud engine noise and could not start with engine light lid up) and it was towed to a bmw certified shop for repair. First and second incidents were the faulty fuel pump and the faulty oxygen sensor was for the third incident and both parts were replaced with the repair cost was more than $2000. I have had the faulty fuel pump issues repaired because safety of our family and safety of other drivers on the road comes first. Bmw has recently issue the recall on faulty fuel pump late 2016 and the part will not be available until late spring 2017. Bmw should voluntarily issue reimbursement notice for all of the repair costs on any recalled issues that were taken prior to the recalls posted to illustrate good faith to its customers. In early march 2017 we have decided to buy a reliable and safer vehicle (not a bmw) because our 2008 x5 4.8i is not safe and too distressful for us to drive and also for the safety of other drivers on the road. For the amount of money we have paid for this sport 4.8i x5 brand new in 2008, we nor anyone else would not expect that it has had many faulty and malfunction on its basic safety parts and also on other parts.bmw should get its act together and be accountable for all of these basic safety and reliable parts to live up to its name and theme as the ultimate driving machine and not as a potential ultimate killing machine!
While driving my vehicle in motion, a warning sensor came on stating that my vehicle engine was overheating. Then, my vehicle came to a complete stop, making it unable to drive.
I was driving in interstate 4 hwy.going about 50 mph trying to speed but no control ofthe accelerator.thankfully i managed to merge rights in the car switch from driving park. I called bmw headquarter and they said days no recall for this vehicle.also i contacted may warranty company "concord auto protect" they said it's not covered because it's under recall.so i have no idea how's right?!please help me.thanks

The car would not startor stall at the traffic light
My car was apart of the recall takata . Part was repaired by bloomfield dealership, took a week . Pick up car on thursday , by friday morning the coolant light turned on . I called the office friday , no response left message , saturday called twice no response or call back . I called today monday 12/4 left a message with the receptionist as the service manager was unavailable. Was told i'd receive a call back , i have yet to hear back . . due to their faulty repair my car is unsafe to drive
2008 bmw x5 3.0si with recurring "parking brake malfunctions" since summer 2009 leading to failure to engage parking brake when vehicle is put in park increasing risk of "rolling" and in several incidents resulting in the vehicle not being able to move when placed into drive requiring manual release of parking brake and later "repair" by bmw service center with no resolution to the problem . The problem has been increasing over the past several months with last full incident on 4/12/10 and again on 4/20/10.
The x5 does not response well to throttle inputs. Hesitation is extremely pronounced at all times. The hesitation feels like stalling. Not sure if this is caused by the engine, transmission, software or some other reasons.this happens mostly when the transmission is in regular "d" mode but it also happens in the manual mode at times.passing and merging in heavy traffic should be avoided because the x5 could receive rear-ended accidents due to the sudden hesitation.had many near-misses and suspect eventuality.

The 2008 bmw x5 3.0i has major transmission issues which severely affects the throttle response time and gears slips occasionally. While driving on high way vehicle will not respond to gas paddle and gears slip and make metal noises. Also when vehicle starts from a stop, gears slip and it moves the vehicle backward as if it is in reverse 'r' gear and you have to hit brakes then it will move forward with a severe jerk. Similar gear slipping happens while stopping the vehicle. The hesitation and gear slip are big safety issue as vehicle will not move fast enough as needed (while merging on highway ramp or changing lanes) and could get in to a side or rear collision. Similarly when starting from stop the sudden backward movement could result in crash with vehicle moving behind. The dealer said it is happens with x5 as it a heavy vehicle, which no body would buy as a justifiable reason for a premium luxury vehicle. These issues happen everyday and affect the safe operation of the vehicle on roads. These issues should be investigated and bmw should recall the affected vehicles.
Was driving at about 45mph when heard a roaring sound followed by a loud snapping sound. Rpms was stable with no warning lights. It happened right at the state border on la plata hwy 140. There's no emergency lanes on neither side of the hwy. I was able back up on reverse for 25ft and parked safely at the rest stop on the colorado side. Engine light came on then. Had vehicle towed to a shop who discovered the front drive shaft broke loose when the universal joint snapped in half, coming off front hub. There's collateral damage to transmissioncasing, tranny cooling lines, and dings to exhaust pipe. O2 sensor failed and triggered engine light.

The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. While driving over 40 mph, an abnormal loud noise could be heard from underneath the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the driveshaft joints were worn out. The vehicle was not repaired. 2002 x5 would not go into reverse.
Car surges continuously after taking off from a red light or stop sign.i have had to pull off the road until it stops.this is a known defect of this auto.this happens every day.it is sporadic.several complaints have been made, and i have been told by bmw's repair department that they know of no such problem, then they admitted they did know of the problem, but it was a "software" issue and no download was available for me, and then eventually the dealership stopped returning my calls.
The gear shifting/transmission in my 2008 3.0 x5 is an ongoing and dangerous problem from day 1. The car does not accelerate reliably and i have had many near collisions. I have been complaining to bmw service (port chester, ny) since sept. 3 2008. I purchased the car new at the end of may 2008. Bmw service told me bmw usa was aware and there was a "software update" coming the beginning of oct which should address this problem. I called the service center in oct and was told no update was released yet. I called bmw of north america on oct 6 and was told that there was a system update released to address this issue and they would contact the service center manager. I left several messages before he returned my call. The update was installed on oct 14, 2008. There was absolutely no improvement to the hesitation/stalling. On each subsequent service visit i complained of this same issue. Each time they acknowledged the problem. I had a test drive with the repair foreman who admitted that bmw was well aware of this issue. It was a new system that was designed to get better gas mileage and was "reactive" to the owners driving style. It was not working and they did away with it for new vehicles. The repair foreman has seen many 2008 3.0 x5's with this problem. I was told a second update was coming to fix the problem.on sept 28, 2009 the update was done update, which again did nothing. I advised bmw i was filing a complaint with this agency.within a few days someone called to say they would take care of this problem and service manager would call. I never heard from anyone again at bmw service. I had a near miss accident again. Bmw is hiding this dangerous problem from the public!! interestingly, when i complain, bmw does not enter the complaint into their system, but always say they will look into it. Are they hiding these complaints? please help me before it is too late. There are many others with this problem.

Takata recall.airbag front passenger and restraint seat belt, don't want anything happening when i'm driving it might cause a accident.
I get the seat belt on light and something similar to that but with the airbag light on. This is only on the front passenger side. No passenger but light is on with the chime as well.
Takata recall! my airbag seat keep on ringing to put seatbelt on when no one is sitting there, and the restraint warning on my tv screen won't go away. I'm afraid my seat willexplode on us when we are on the road. They need to check it out, dangerous its better to save lives, then sorry.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. The contact stated that while parked the passenger restrain system error message illuminated on the instrument panel. The error message illuminated intermittently.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.
I have been experiencing seat belt problems for years.there's a recall on the bmw x5 but i'm not sure why my vehicle is not on the recall list.there are 3 others that have the same seat belt issues.
Water leakage on driver side rear- as well as accumulating in spare tire well submerging battery in 3 inches of water. Hi-fi amplifier - bluetooth- navigation- radio- sos damaged from this. All windows shut and vehicle filled with water.

While driving the brake pedal became inoperable.it was very difficult to press the pedal to get the vehicle to slow down and impossible to get it to stop without adding complete pressure.we had to shift the vehicle down to 1 low manual transmission to slow down enough to stop completely.from that point, the brake pedal did not work at all so the vehicle is inoperable due to safety reasons.i checked for recall's and my model year was recalled for this exact problem, however i do not have a v8 engine, so bmw is stating i do not qualify for a recall.it's the same part, the vacuum assist braking system.see attached recall number:nhtsa vehicle safety recalls________________________________________recall number: 13v045000recall date: 02/07/2013component: service brakes, hydraulic:power assistproblem summary: bmw is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 x5 sav vehicles, manufactured september 12, 2006, through march 18, 2010 and equipped with an 8-cylinder engine. The brake vacuum pump may leak a small amount of lubricating oil into the hose. The contamination could result in a loss of power assist braking.consequence: the loss of power assist in braking could increase stopping distance and lead to a vehicle crash.what owners should do: bmw will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake vacuum line with one that contains a check valve, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during march 2013. Owners may call bmw at 1-800-525-7417 or email bmw at [email protected].

My dashboardlight flick engine , abs, parking break will shut off vehicle less than 10min driving with caution.
My car is stock inside my garage with a parking brake malfunction error. The parking brakes will not release even when i tried manually. I had to tow the car to the dealer to fix the problem. I called bmw us but they told me that there are no recalls to fix this common problem which many owner are complaining about.
When the vehicle is moving a relatively slow speeds, it requires an excessive amount of pressure to be placed on the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. Also, when the vehicle is stopped,, it takes an excessive amount of pressure on the brake pedal to keep it stopped while in gear for example stopped at a traffic light. It is experiencing a loss of power assist in the braking system.my vehicle was covered by a recall issued in 2013 but i never received any notice of the recall, and therefore did not get it repaired as it was working normally. In mid-december 2015 the problem began and i took it to the repair shop who diagnosed the problem. However, bmw says that since it has been more than 2 years since the recall, they will not repair the problem at no charge. The brake issue was noted to be a safety issue which could result in a traffic crash due to loss of power assist in braking. Since i never received any notice of the safety recall, i believe bmw should pay for the necessary repairs to my vehicle to return it to safe operation.
I drove from los angeles, ca to hidden valley lake, ca over the holidays. The problem started to occur when i was within 100 miles of my destination traveling at freeway speed. Over the weeknd, my brakes became extremely hard to press. As if i have no more power assist. I did some research and seen my year/make/model was affected. However, bmw claims that my vin is "unaffected " even though i'm experiencing the same issues as listed in the under nhtsa campaign # 13v045000
Started the car and got "parking brake malfunction" message.the parking brake could not be disengaged and car couldn't move.followed instruction to release the parking brake so the car can be moved.the car is movable after that, but the parking brake no longer worked.
My brake lights were out.bmw has indicated that both sockets have melted to the point that they can't remove anything without breaking things.i did some research online and found that people have had this same thing and fires have started.worth investigating!
I had recall service done at seattle bmw. Brake boost hose replaced on may 2013 they said they don't have brake booster part yet so they going to call me. Today i take my car to sk motorsport in bellingham wa. They said oil leak on brake boost pump. So i called seattle bmw. They told me to call nwbmw. So i called them they said they don't have recall so told me to fix with my money.
The electronic parking brake signals a malfunction and the dealer quoted $1,600 to fix. There is clearly a design flaw in this new feature - an electronic brake - on the bmw x5 2008.two weeks after purchasing the vehicle, the electronic parking brake locked up and would not release; the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer for re-programming. Now, the electronic parking brake is not working and bmw wants to charge to fix the brake. I have never had a parking brake fail and i have been driving since 1976; clearly bmw has a flaw in the design of their electronic parking brake.i recommend that the nhtsb investigate the issues related to the bmw electronic parking brake and take the necessary actions to protect the consumer.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw x5. The contact was driving 40 mph when the steering wheel seized. The vehicle was taken directly to an authorized dealer where the power steering pump was replaced. The failure recurred approximately one month later. The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer where all of the power steering mechanisms were reinstalled but again, the failure recurred six months later. The vehicle was again taken back to the authorized dealer and they were in the process of diagnosing the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,846.

Right rear sunroof drain did not drain properly causing electrical malfunction includingfailure of all safety and dash gauges - (including speedometer, gas gauge) on interstate at freeway speed.repairs exceed $1,500.00.
The loss of air pressure is creating a possiblecontrol issue if it fails at higher speeds. It deflates at night when not in use but if it occurs while driving then is the question of safety.

Takata recall. My bmw quit one day and the bmw dealer in paduca will not take it. It has 2 or 3 recalls and they will not even take it for the recalls. They have cost me a lot of money and have no reason at all for not takeing it for recalls only.
I was driving on the freeway and the panoramic sunroof exploded. Raining glass in on me and my two granddaughters.
My car was apart of the recall takata . Part was repaired by bloomfield dealership, took a week . Pick up car on thursday , by friday morning the coolant light turned on . Water leakage on driver side rear- as well as accumulating in spare tire well submerging battery in 3 inches of water. Hi-fi amplifier - bluetooth- navigation- radio- sos damaged from this. All windows shut and vehicle filled with water.
