The front passenger air bag sensor went on at 44k and remains illuminated at all times and for no apparent reason. I took the vehicle to an independent repair shop and was informed that the air bag sensor was defective.called the bmw site who indicated that there were no recalls for this issue.contacted nhtsa website and informed that recall was in place (ea08001 bmw of north america, llc 01/04/2008 12/31/2008 bmw airbag light illumination 08v384000)dealer stated they would not honor this due to the manufacture date of my vehicle which fits every other criteria (e.g., year, make and model.)not the bmw i am used to.

The vehicles seat occupancy sensor is malfunctioning for no particular reason which will prevent for passenger airbag to deploy when it is suppose to in the event of an accident, my vehicle is not that old and has not been abused but yet this issue occurred since about less than a year ago, when someone sits in the passenger seat the warning light comes on that indicates that the air bag is off and the airbag warning light comes on as well.i have tried to get the manufacturer to take responsibility with no luck, they want over a $1000 plus to replace the sensor, my issue remains unresolved; i ran a check for this issue online and found that almost every bmw owner experiences the same issue and almost every bmw in different range of recent years and different models has the same problem and this is a mass-produced manufacturer defect that has gone unnoticed.this is a safety issue, if i had been in an accident my passenger airbag would not deploy, this issue still remains unresolved as of this date.this problem began about a year ago when my vehicle was only about 3 years old and 45000 miles and has been getting worst with time, before it was occasional but now it is all the time, the repair would consist of taking the entire passenger seat out and apart and replace the sensor-pad that is connected to the vehicles safety system computer placed inside the seat pads, this is not an easy task or a repair that is accessible. Most definitely there should be a safety recall on this item.most people don't know that they can file a complaint and request recalls on their vehicle issues and that is why you may not see many complaints about this issue.
This car has relatively few miles (85k), and has always been operated by a single person.the passenger seat cushion has a sensor mat that activates the passenger airbag.with relatively fewer miles and very few passengers, the passenger seat didn't experience the normal use as likely modeled by bmw.however, during the fall of 2020, (during the height of covid), a warning light stating the passenger air bag had a malfunction.we were in the midst of nursing and the warning light then went out during the first three months of 2021.when it came on again in may, 2021, i asked bmw about it as was told, "that's campaign 13v-564.the front passenger airbag seat occupancy sensor mat isn't working.this means, if there's an accident, the airbag protecting the passenger won't deploy."apparently there as a "safety check" on this in 2014 and the recall closed as of january 2021....so, i was four months past the expiration date of their safety check for this important malfunctioning seat cushion.as advised by a bmw representative, i requested "goodwill assistance" with covering all or some of this repair (estimated at approx $2k).i was just told that bmw will not provide any goodwill assistance with this and there is apparently no one within bmw customerrelations i can escalate this to.so, i am reaching-out to the nhtsa in hopes someone can assist me in navigating this.it seems to me, an important safety item such as a passenger sensor for airbag deployment on a car with fewer miles (and passengers) than average, experiencing a brief warning that didn't repeat during covid when we were unable to get to a bmw dealership, and for a "safety check" issue that just ended prior to us contacting bmw to repair is something i don't think bmw should be able to dodge.
My vehicle has had the recall for the air bag completed. The light continues to come back for the passenger side srs. Why can't bmw fix this recall once and for all?
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated approximately 2 months ago. The vehicle was later taken to the dealer and they advised the contact that the front passenger seat sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
The passenger side air bag off warning light came on and stays on. The dealer reset the computer. Light went off. The failure recurred again in a few months. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the sensor needed to be replaced. I was informed that my vin did not meet the recall for replacing the failed mat sensor although other 2006 bmw x5s were recalled for that same failure. The warning light is presently on. I have read of many examples of the same problem. The aging mat become brittle and cracks breaking the circuit.bmw needs to send me a letter and replace my passenger seat mat sensor for free before i have an accident and the passenger is injured.
Since 2010, my bmw x5, 3.0, 2006 seat belt continually sounds the alarm chime even though there is no passenger in the seat. This issue only happens in the passenger front seat.the seat belt must remain fastened at all times to avoid the warning indicator from alarm.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated the occupancy detection mat which was located in the passenger or driver seat that informs the computer that a person was in the seat failed. The failure rendered the air bags inoperable and also caused the seat belt lights to illuminate as if a person was sitting in the seat when it was unoccupied. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on more than one occasion and they performed a diagnostic test but the computer displayed no codes; therefore, they could not repair the failure or duplicate it. The manufacturer advised him to take the vehicle back to the dealer but they would not honor the request. The failure mileage was 38,000 the current mileage was 67,000.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v384000 (air bags). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
Passenger airbag is de-activated.passenger seat occupancy sensor is not working. Bmw states that my production date is not inclusive of the recall# 13v564000. The recall starts mfg date 12/1/2005 forward for bmw x5 models.bmw customer service stated my date of mfg was 10/25/2005 and they will not cover.i need intervention with this matter.it is more than coincidence that i am having the identical issue as cars mfg less than 35 days after my mfg date.thank you.

My vehicle went on limp mode i'm pretty sure it has to do with the transmission gears.my passenger side door looks like the air bag wants to pop out.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact received a notification for recall nhtsa campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags). The contact stated that the time frame for the repairs was unreasonable. The manufacturer was made aware of the wait time and stated that the parts were unavailable. The vehicle had not experience a failure.
After experiencing the same issue for which bmw issued this recallnhtsa action number: ea08001i learned that because my 2006 x5 was manufactured after november 30, 2005, bmw is not covering under warranty the very same defect that vehicles manufactured prior to november 30, 2005 are under warranty for (extended to 10 years with no mileage restrictions). The explanation is "that is the recall policy. We manage this via vin numbers".
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. After the vehicle was started, the front passenger side air bag off warning light illuminated. In addition, the failure occurred when the seat was occupied. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags). The failure mileage was 99,999.
Airbag light on, passenger airbag off light illuminated. Diagnostic scan showed faulty front passenger seat occupancy detector. Bmw issued recall campaign 13v-564 for vehicles manufactured from dec 05 to sept 06. My vehicle was manufactured 06/06 and is displaying all the symptoms from recall 13v-564 yet bmw usa claims my vehicle is not effected.
I brought car in after i got recall notice. I was told the part had to be ordered from germany. My complaint is that it is taking longer thani feel is reasonable. Bmw refuses to provide me with a rental.i have no other car to drive and i feel unsafe driving this car.
The contact owns 2006 bmw x5. The contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags). However, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
I have a 2006 bmw x5 with the sport sports package and i am experiencing these same problems as described in the recall 02 - id # 13v564000 - air bags recall03 - id # 13v564000 - air bags:frontal:sensor/control m.i have called bmw of america and tried to get them to honor the recall but they have refused. I was told by customer rep. [xxx] that bmw have decided that my vehicle was not under that recall and that i would have to pay to get it look at before they would conceder any repairs to be covered under these recalls. I told both reps and also spoke with supervisor [xxx] that this is uncalled for since it matches the year, make, model and package that is being recalled. I first talked with [xxx] and all he had done was give me a run around that bmw would look into it and that i would need to have it checked out by a bmw service technician. I kept telling them that i was not going to pay for a diagnosis for something that is defective and should be repaired under the recalls, but once again i was told by [xxx] that i have no choice but to pay to have itlooked at. I have sent may emails and had many phone calls with bmw america about this issue and i am very unsatisfied with how they are handling this issue. I feel they do not look out for their customers and don't care if this recall hurts or even kills someone. If they truly cared they would have taken in this vehicle and have done the diagnosis to see if it is the problem and have it fixed but as i have experienced with this issue bmw does not care. This is not the company that i remember bmw was standard for excellence and is to be an extremely high standard of high quality cars but when something goes wrong bmw leaves you with nothing and will not honor their mistakes to make it right. Thank you. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Passenger air bag sensor defective related to recall 13v564000.defective sensor mat causes airbag to be turned off at all times. Called bmw they stated to take vehicle to dealership before the end of 2015.dealer would not honor recall for this vehicle.
Both the air bag warning lamp and passenger air bag "on-off" lamp illuminated on circumstance thatthere is someone sitting on the passenger seat.
Both of the air bag problem indicator lights are activated. This is a result of a faulty air bag occupant detection mat. This faulty mat deactivates the passenger side airbag. There have been recalls issued by bmw for this issue for my model and other models.when i called the dealership they informed me that my vehicle will not be covered based on my vin number.

Passenger seat occupancy airbag light shows airbag is inactivate (whether or not someone is in the passenger seat). This light appears intermittently. Took to dealer and was advised the repair is $1200. Although my model should be covered in the 2008 recall, nhtsa 08v384000 -??bmw is extending the warranty to 10 years from first registration without any mileage limit to the following vehicles: my 2006 6-series, 3-series (standard seat), my 2004-2005 z4, my 2004-2006 7-series, my 2006 x5, and my 2004-2006 5-series (comfort seat). Under the extended warranty program, the occupant detection mat in a vehicle that experiences this specific issue will be replaced at no charge to the customer, although my car is listed above, the dealer says that my 2006 x5 was manufactured outside the current manufacture date for the 2008 recall. This recall need to be expanded. There are numerous complaints from 2006 x5 owners outside the november 2005 manufacture date.

Passenger seat air bag sensor recalled several years ago by bmw.was told that i would be advised when parts are available.to date bmw has not made the parts available to the dealerships so the problem cannot be corrected. This has been close to two years.
Passenger airbag is off and remains off with a passenger wearing seatbelts, i am the new owner and it was like this when i got it, previous owner never had passengers so wasnt aware it was not working, looked up recall info and there is a recall for that year and model is there anyway i can get it fixed under the recall
The passenger air bag light is on all the time. I took it into my bmw dealership and they said the sensor mat in the seat faulted and needs to be replaced.they originally said it was covered under a warranty extension for this specific problem. Later they said my vehicle was made too late to be included in the voluntary warranty extension. If this is the same problem that keeps occurring in bmws and obviously affects the safety of the vehicle and is the subject of a nhtsa investigation, why is my vehicle not covered. It would appear bmw did not fix its problems with its passenger airbag system. Why isn't the nhtsa still investigating this problem.
My vehicle / vin should be included in the recall campaign no. 13v-564: "front passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor mat." my vehicle is part of the model year 2006 x5 sav's that has the defect. But my vin is not being recognized in the recall and is experiencing the exact defect. The air bag warning lamp on the instrument cluster and the front "passenger air bag off" lamp in the overhead console are illuminated at the same time. The sensor has become damaged over time due to the frequency of front passenger seat usage. Bmw ag has decided that the defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in the model year 2006 x5's. When i contacted bmw usa they told me my vehicle was part of the recall but they had the last digit in my vin as a "2" instead of a "3". The rest of the vin was the same. The vin with the last digit as a "2" was the exact model as my vehicle (year, color, inside and out, and equipment). But for some reason my vin is missing from the recall. Why is my vin not part of the recall if it is the same vehicle (year and model) as others that are part of the recall? how do i have my vehicle / vin added to the recall campaign no. 13v-564?
Just purchased the certified pre owned bmw x5. 2006 model and had it 1 day and the passenger side airbag light came on and would not go off. Returned car to bmw of dallas to have repaired. Approximately 40000 miles later at 68000 miles same light is on and will not go out.
In january of 2014, i received a letter telling me that my vehicle needed the front passenger seat air bag sensor mat fixed.they went on to say that they would let me know when the parts came in.next, in june of 2014, they sent me a letter that the parts are in and to schedule the work.i have now taken my vehicle back multiple times and they are saying that they still don't have the parts.i have called bmw corporate and no one will help me get this problem fixed...they just keep giving me the run around...
1) the air bag light does not go off. It stays on. Air bags engage but light is just as bright as can be.2) ignition switch security latch does not release. Have to smack steering wheel after turning off alarm to place key into ignition slot.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, it rained and water entered through the sunroof and created moisture in the vehicle. Air bag passenger seat occupancy sensor failure.
Air bag signal and seat belt warning were lit on the dash, even after the passenger was out of the car. The seat belt warning chimes when passenger leaves, took it to a mechanic and he told me that the sensor needs to be replaced. Took it to bmw on 06/10/2014 they told me, there were no recalls for my car due to my vin. Considering the fact that other vehicles are having the same problems, and are being repaired, this is very disappointing that my car can not be fixed, when this is a potentially dangerous situation.

I received a letter from bmw regarding recall campaign 13v-564 in january.in that letter, they indicated that they did not have parts available to conduct the recall and expected the parts to be available in march, at which time they would notify me of the parts availability so i could schedule a service appointment with the local dealer.i have contacted the local dealer two times (after march), the second time today.after a less than comforting discussion with the local dealer, i contacted bmw north america to discuss the issue.bmw north america informed me that they do not have the required parts and when the parts are available, will be sending out a second letter.however, they could not give me any idea as to when this would happen.so, i sit now, 6 months after receiving their first letter with no idea as to when the problem will be solved.and, by they way, my vehicle has both the air bag warning lamp on the console and the "passenger air bag off" lamp illuminated .... Indicated that, at a minimum, there is a problem with the passenger air bag.bmw needs to solve this problem quickly.

Passenger seat occupancy airbag light near sunroof controls remains unilluminated (which means airbag is activated) when no one is in the passenger seat.this appears to be intermitent as yesterday it remained illuminated (airbag off) as it should be with no one in the passenger seat.also had case where red airbag light was illuminated on dash for unknown reason but light went off after driving for a period of time.my x5 was manufactured in may 2006 and appears to be outside the current manufacture date for the 2008 re-call. The recall needs to be expanded based on how many people complain about this on vehicles outside the november 05 manufacture date.
Passenger occupancy sensor fails, causing air bag to become inoperative and airbag light to appear on dash.in case of accident, the airbag will not deploy.dealer wants nearly 2000 dollars to fix, though they say it had "already been repaired in 2008" when the vehicle was two years old; dealer confirmed that they hear this complaint all of the time.recall campaign 08v384000 addresses this issue for some bmw models/seats, but does not adequately address all models and years that have the problem.for the x5 model, for example, the "comfort seat" is covered, but the standard seat, which has the very same problem (not related to the comfort system) is not.please widen the coverage of the campaign to include all models and years affected by this widespread problem.
I have been informed while car shopping that my 2006 bmw x5 has a recall for the seat belts but i have never been notified of that recall.i am disappoint that the manufacturer seem to be taking this recall lightly but lives are at risk.what is the plan to resolve this issue?
My passenger airbag is defective due to micro cracks in the weight sensor mat.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that the air bag system warning light was illuminated and the vehicle was taken to a local repair facility. The mechanic advised the contact that the front passenger seat air bag occupant detection mat was defective. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 90,091.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5.while driving 30 mph, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle.the bumper, muffler, and trunk were damaged.the driver's seat belt failed and released prematurely.the front air bags failed to deploy.the contact was uninjured.the vehicle was towed to a local repair shop and repaired.the contact has a copy of the police report.the manufacturer could not provide an explanation for the failures.the failure mileage was 56,000 and current mileage was 56,500.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5.while driving approximately 60 mph on normal road conditions, the passenger seat occupancy sensor and air bag warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the indicators remained illuminated until the engine was turned off.in addition, the seat belt system chime sensor was inoperative.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and the technician stated that the failure was contributed to the passenger seat sensor.the vehicle has not been repaired.the manufacturer has been notified of the malfunctions.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 66,000 and current mileage was 67,000.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that when she purchased the vehicle, the air bag warning light was illuminated. The dealer advised her that the mat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in any recall. The failure mileage was 3.
My vehicle has had the recall for the air bag completed. The light continues to come back for the passenger side srs. Why can't bmw fix this recall once and for all?
Defect in the driver side airbag sensor.
While driving on interstate in high speed lane engine suddenly lost power creating danger of rear end collision. In moving to break down lane engine continued to run but would not propel the vehicle over 5 mph. This problem had occurred two weeks previously when the vehicle was towed to bmw dealer for service. At that time the vehicle was electronically diagnosed andno faults were found or repairs made.the vehicle was again towed to the bmw dealer and no electronic faults were found. This time a mechanical diagnosis was performed and fuel pressure was found to be 12 psi rather that the 55 psi specified. Subsequently the contacts in the fuel pump relay were found to be burned, the fuel filter and pressure regulator were found to contain metal shards, the fuel pump showed no external signs of damage. All items were replaced at which time fuel pressure returned to 55 psi and the vehicle was able to be driven normally. The conclusion is that the fuel pump can fail internally which cannot be detected by electronic diagnosis and returning a car to the road without performing the mechanical diagnoses specified in the factory service literature is a dangerous and negligent practice by this particular bmw dealer's service department and may indicate an inherent flaw in the manufacture of the fuel pump.parts replaced:61 36 8 373 700 relay16 12 6 754 016 fuel filter pressure regulator16 11 6 768 357 fuel pump
Heated seats were getting hotter the past couple of uses...until today when i warmed up the car (approximately 3 minutes). I was putting my daughter in her safety seat in the rear passenger side. When i opened the door, the cabin of the vehicle was filled with thick white smoke. I removed my daughter and proceed to ascertain where the smoke was coming from. There was a swirling funnel of smoke coming from the front driver side. I opened the driver side door and observed the driver seat leather burning (fizzling amber fire). I looked over to the seat warmer light and it was on. I turned it off and had to put out the fire by batting my hands against the fire while holding my daughter in the other. The fire left my hands charred and the entire interior of the car smelling like smoke.
The tail light assembly on my bmw is defective, which causes the brake light to not work, which is dangerous when driving.a quick search on the internet turns up that this is a very common problem in x5's, and i think bmw should be responsible for replacing these assemblies, not the customer.this is extremely dangerous, and we should not have to foot the bill for a material defect in their products.
Started x5 up and turned on driver 's seat warmer. Let car warm up for 5 minutes and commenced to drive away. One minute down the road i smell smoke like an electrical fire. I feel my left hip getting hot at the same time. I stop car and look down and see a dull red glow from the seat. Immediately turn off heater and get out of car. The driver seat warmer had shorted and burned a hole through the leather seat along the left side of the seat. How hot was it! my pants had been burnt and had a small red mark on my skin. Think goodness i was not severely burned due to the area of my pants that was burnt was also the left back pocket area so the interior pocket fabric help protect me. Wow! will bmw fix this?????
Drivers side heated seat burned through leather seats on right side of seat at rib cage. Slightly burned driver. Had a electrical burning smell. Left about a 6 inch burn line in the seat. Very unattractive!

Danger!fire hazard on 2006 bmw x5.heated seats get extremely hot on driver side left side under the drivers buttocks and thigh.smell of burnt plastic and fumes in cabin.
Driver's side heated seat turned on and thereafter became dangerously hot and burned through the driver's coat.
My vehicles rear doors will not open from the inside or outside. The lock goes up and down, but the doors will not open. The rear passenger door stopped working on the 12th of december 2012 and the rear driver side door stopped working today 18 december 2012. The driver side door stopped working this morning when i dropped my daughter off for school. She was unable to get out of the back seat after multiple unlocking attempts of the rear driver side door. I had to have her climb into the front seat in order to get out of the car. That is terrifying to think that she would not have been able to get out in an emergency, fire, or accident. After doing some research online i found that this seems to be an ongoing issue with this model and other bmw models. I am assuming and concerned that my front driver side and passenger side door will do the same. Myself and family need to be able to get out of the vehicle along with all the other consumers that own these vehicles. Its just not safe. I have had other vehicles that were older with more mileage and never had an issue with doors not opening. This is a safety issue and hazard. I have contacted bmw and i am waiting on a reply on how they plan to rectify this issue.

Driver's sideheated seat shorted while driving. It caused a small fire and burned a hole through the leather seat when heated seat was turned on.
Just purchased the certified pre owned bmw x5. 2006 model and had it 1 day and the passenger side airbag light came on and would not go off. Returned car to bmw of dallas to have repaired. Approximately 40000 miles later at 68000 miles same light is on and will not go out.
My vehicle went on limp mode i'm pretty sure it has to do with the transmission gears.my passenger side door looks like the air bag wants to pop out.
My drivers side seat ( cushion) caught on fire when i turned on the heated seats. I first smelled a burning / plastic smell. Then i felt my glutes and hamstring getting warm. I looked down ( i was driving) and saw an orange ember on the seat. I pulled over as soon as i could, hot out of the car, and saw that the seat was actually burning. Luckily i had a bottle of water in the car and put out the flame and turned off the seat. I called the dealer- got a quote to repair. Bmw will not take responsibility for this. I have a small burn on my leg, and a good size hole in the seat. I like my heated seats living in the northeast during winter months. Very disappointed that bmw refuses to address this dangerous issue.
My heated seat catched on fire. Driver side seat left side rear. I got burned as i was driving on a parking lot. I realized that my pants have a whole as well as of the seat
My vehicles battery keep draining when not drove for two days. I have replaced the battery and it still wont fire after 2 days. I saw the recall about moisture getting into the vehicles positive crank case ventilation valve heater and thought this might be happening with my vehicle causing my battery to be drained.however, i find that my vehicle is not on the recalled list.it still continues to do this.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, burning oil could be smelled and smoke emitted from the engine compartment. The vehicle was moved to the shoulder where it was discovered that the engine was covered in motor oil. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was determined that the crank case release valve failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 85,000. The vin was not available.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 (na) bmw x5. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and various warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and an independent mechanic, but the failure was unable to be replicated. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 07v479000 (engine and engine cooling). The contact also received notification for nhtsa campaign number: 16v071000 (air bags); however, the parts were unavailable beyond a reasonable time frame. The failure mileage was unknown. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
Takata recall white smoke comes from exhaust pipes when driving and fills the streets while driving on city streets in traffic and at idle. Other drivers behind me can't see due to the smoke coming from the exhaust.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. While the vehicle was idling, there was smoke coming from the passenger exhaust pipe. The vehicle was taken to both a dealer and independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the valve stem had a leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.
Ccv (crank case ventilation) system froze leading to vcg (valve cover gasket) failure.bmw issued a sib for this in 2009 so they acknowledged the problem and revised the parts for cold weather climates.unfortunately i am way out of warranty and this is out of pocket at $1000++.this was/is a design flaw because i had the cold weather ccv and it still failed. They blame it on not getting the vehicle up to operating temperature due to short trips!ridiculous on what was a $54k car when new.
Approximately 1 month after having our bmw serviced for an oil change at our local dealer, the "check engine oil level" light illuminated.we immediately called the dealer, and upon them looking at it, it was determined that the crankcase vent valve (oil separator), needs to be replaced, at a cost of $1,300.we have been having this light come on numerous times over the past couple of years, and always call the dealer when it does.every time we call, they either tell me to top the oil off myself, or we bring it to the dealer for them to top off.not once did someone mention that this issue could be a problem, and they continued to let us drive even though the engine could have been damaged in doing so.a very quick internet search reveals that this is a very common problem with these vehicles, and bmw's in general, and i think they should be held responsible and the part should be covered.i now have to get this done immediately, due to the fact that the car is burning so much oil daily, around a quart per 1,000 miles.i am reaching out to help get a recall on this issue.if there is any other information i can provide, please do not hesitate to contact me.thank you.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that the engine failed and exhibited excessive oil consumption. In addition, smoke was seen coming from the exhaust. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer and they were told that the cylinders failed. The vehicle was not repaired.the vin was not available. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.
While driving my truck on a very cold day (0 degrees) in chicago, white smoke began emitting from the exhaust and the truck totally stopped running in the middle of heavy traffic.it would not restart and it had to be towed.it was determined that the cranckcase breather box/oil separator stopped working causing oil to spew everywhere within my exhaust.this also ruined my spark plugs.this is a well documented defect in the x5, and there should be a recall related to this.it seems to occur as soon as the manufacturer or extended warranty expires and it is related to cold weather.
Oil separator problem with 2006 bmw x5, caused engine to shut down in the middle of the highway. I'm told that this is a problem when driving in cold weather and there is nothing i can do to fix it. $1500 repair and still no assurance it won't happen again.

Complete bmw diagnostic done in october 2013, repairs done except brakes. While stopped at red light at northside dr. & 8th street(approx.) my x5 shut off & would not crank until 10 minutes later. Fire truck was on an emergency & my x5 blocked it's motion. Immediately took x5 to auto repair, rented a car & no problem diagnosed. 06/02/14, on my way to bible study, stopped at light, stuttered upon gas petal push to drive. Drove up hill & x5 shut off then dash light read stop! oil pressure, coasted to nearest lot. Oil added then drove for 5 more minutes, stopped for officer to direct school zone traffic, shut off again. Engine turns on but won't completely start. Police pushed me into nearest parking lot.
I already filed complaints for a failed brake booster, master cylinder pump, water pump leaking coolant, power steering pump leaking oil. I failed to mention that the valve gasket cover also needed to be replaced as oil was spewing all over the engine. At this point, this vehicle should be recalled in its entirety.
Dt*: the contact stated the transmission would not downshift properly.the vehicle was taken to the dealership and the transmission was replaced, but the problem persisted.also, the engine revved while at a stop.the dealership was unable to determine a problem.the vehicle was a 2006 bmw x5.updated 01/10/07.
The engine light went on and stayed on therefore made an appointment with the dealer.i did not notice any changes on the car except the fuel consumption where it consumed more than usual.when i took it to the dealer, they told me that the oil vapor separator needs to be replaced, that i was lucky that the car did not die on me.they are charging 1400 to fix the problem.as i researched on the internet, this part has been failing for people that do not drive their car far enough.the condensation coagulates in the oil passages. One of those passages is the tube from the oil separator which goes back into the oil pan. Over time, the repeated driving on short trips causes the coagulated oil and condensation to build up inside the passage which runs from the oil separator to the oil pan. When enough condensation gathers in the oil separator after the engine is shut off in temperatures below freezing - hydrolock may be caused by oil ingestion. Due to this, the suv can just stop anywhere, i am one of the lucky ones that made it to the dealership that did not have to compromise my safety.i called bmw and they said, the car is no longer under warranty and it is not considered a defect.*ln

The "check brake light" warning light came on. It continued to persist even after i replaced the bulb. This has happened before to both brake lights (driver and passenger sides). I replaced both taillight assemblies 6 months ago to solve the problem.the occurrence of the problem is an indication of a design flaw and not due to poor maintenance.in searching the internet there seems to be a large number of x5 owners have experienced the same issue.please help with making ibm recall and fix this issue.thank you,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
My right tail light keeps burning out causing my brake light not to work. I didn't know this until i was stopping at a corner and someone came very close to my rear end, blew his horn and yelled get your brake lights fixed. When i went home my husband found out the socket that holds the light was burnt. We bought another 1, days later it happened again. We kept replacing the socket until one day i research only to find that this is an ongoing problem with these suv's that is very costly to fix. I am scared that it will cause an accident and my children are always with me. My notification for the bad light never came on until after the fact, now its on constantly even after replacing the unit. There are many x5 owners with this problem, this could be very dangerous. There should be a recall for these vehicles with these recurring problems!!
Hid lights from other cars are blinding me from behind.

This is about a leased 2006 bmw x5.i was parking the car, & had applied the footbrake when the car began to accelerate.i floored the brake pedal again, but the car did not stop, so i applied the handbrake & still it did not stop.it crashed through some bushes, over a concrete sidewalk & into the street which luckily had no traffic.i was able to slam the gearshift into reverse &turned off the ignition to stop the car while at a right angle to the lane markers in the road.verylucky that there was no oncoming traffic at that hour.i restarted the car, put it into reverse gear & backed over the same path &into the parking lot & pulled the handbrake &turned off the ignition.icalled braman bmw of w. Palm beach to tow the car away since i was unwilling to drive it anymore.their head mechanic, prior to inspecting the car, during a 3-way phone call with me & joe of braman bmw in w. Palm beach, stated that he concluded (before he ever looked at the car) that i was at fault & that i must have mistakenly pushed the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal.they called me on monday, december 29, said they test drove it & found nothing wrong.they said they would call bmw's national office & get back to me.so far i have had no call back.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph the contact noticed a grinding noise coming from the front end of the vehicle and the transmission failure light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact heard a loud bang in the rear of the vehicle and noticed blue smoke emitting from the tail pipe. The vehicle was towed to the contacts home and later driven to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician diagnose that the transfer case assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000.
After driving for an extended period, intermittently the transmission gear slips with big joltwhen accelerating from 5-10 miles uphill.
Brake booster and master cylinder failed in june. Not covered under recall since a recall had not been issued for the 2006 models. Shortly thereafter the water pump began leaking coolant. Again, not covered for 2006 models. Now there is a severe leak in the power steering pump. All should be recalled. Already spent over $4k in repairs for a vehicle that, given its price and claims of extraordinary german engineering, should not have been necessary. Very disappointed.
Hello,i have a 2006 bmw x5 [xxx] that has a transmission issue.it has started by rolling on hills and shifting funny both in city and on highway.it then started not moving much when accelerating as i was coming off a highway exit and continued through town.it has 120,000 miles.having done research, attached below is a link to 4 related recalls.please advise me as to which recall this is and how to proceed to getting it repaired.i look forward to hearing from you soon.thank you,[xxx]https://www.transmissionrepaircostguide.com/bmw-x5-transmission-problems/information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
My vehicle went on limp mode i'm pretty sure it has to do with the transmission gears.my passenger side door looks like the air bag wants to pop out.
1) cruise will not take into action when less then 15 mph--- and you have to be in accelerate to engage cruise- causes problems in school zone. Especially to set the cruise at 19mph is a challenge.2) seat belt warning even after i have the seat belt on. And the beep comes after i drive about 2 blocks ...so i have to take off the belt and put it back on.
Since 2010, my bmw x5, 3.0, 2006 seat belt continually sounds the alarm chime even though there is no passenger in the seat. This issue only happens in the passenger front seat.the seat belt must remain fastened at all times to avoid the warning indicator from alarm.
The contact stated that the passenger side air bag warning light continued to flash off and on when a passenger was either occupying the seat or when there was no passenger. The contact also stated that the seat belt warning chime was activated when the passenger was secured using the seat belt. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the nhtsa campaign number 13v564000 (air bags). The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same defect listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 93,000.
Danger!fire hazard on 2006 bmw x5.heated seats get extremely hot on driver side left side under the drivers buttocks and thigh.smell of burnt plastic and fumes in cabin.
The driver side heated seat overheats and becomes too hot to touch. I have experience discoloration in some of my clothing due to the excessive heat, and i experienced a slight burned on my thigh when the heated seat is turned on. The issue occurs while the car is in motion or stationary. The leather most affected by the heated seat malfunction is thinning. I have contacted the local bmw dealership twice about the issues, and i have been ignored when i requested a quote on the repair and why the safety issue has not been addressed.

When using the heated driver seat, it begins to smoke and give off a burning smell. I don't know if it would catch on fire, i turned it off as soon as i realized it was the seat burning and smoking. I bought this vehicle used and just thought the seat was a bit worn in that spot.i checked for recalls on this year and there aren't any.my car was stationary when this occurred, parked in a parking lot.
The heaters in both the driver's and front passenger seats overheated to the point that it was too hot to touch and melted the leather seats. We are not sure if the heaters were even engaged at the time.we brought the car to the local bmw service department and were denied any assistance or warranty coverage. We then called the national bmw customer service number and were also turned down. The costs to fix this very dangerous issue would be close to the value of the vehicle.we are still pursuing this with local management but at this time, despite recalls in previous years for this same safety problem, we have been denied any assistance or relief.
When pulling into my driveway i noticed a burning sensation on the left side of my butt burning my coat.i stopped the bmw and jumped out .with the courtesy light on i could see that the leather seat had a burn hole where i could see the electricity like minilightening.when i turned off the seat heater and the burning stopped. Had i been on the highway, serious injury could had occurred.bmw referred me to have the problem evaluated and determined that they were not responsible and repair would cost about $1400. Bmw is aware of their seat heater problem as see by numerous blogs online but refuses to recall the affected vehicles.i have not yet contact my insurance company.
Driver's sideheated seat shorted while driving. It caused a small fire and burned a hole through the leather seat when heated seat was turned on.
While driving i turned on my heated seats and about 15 minutes later my drivers sideseat became very hot and started to burn me. I pulled over abruptly, jumped out of my car and noticed that my pants was discolored/burned and my seat was burned and had a burn hole(about 3.5 inches) in it., the car had a plastic type burn smell in it. I am terrified to turn on the heated seats again.
Driver's side heated seat turned on and thereafter became dangerously hot and burned through the driver's coat.
I have a 2006 bmw x5 with approximately 60,000 miles.while sitting in the drivers seat, i turned on the heated seat.minutes later, i felt a burning on my left leg halfway between my knee and hip and began to smell smoke.i pulled over and exited the vehicle immediately.when i looked at the seat, the leather was visibly burnt and was extremely hot to the touch.had i stayed in the vehicle any longer, i would have been burned by the seat and injured.we are currently teaching my daughter to drive, this could have been a serious safety issue if she had been behind the wheel, distracting her from driving and injuring her leg possibly causing an accident.the burning now happens every time i turn on the heated seat.after looking on the internet about this issue, many people have been having this problem and there is currently no recall for this vehicle.the local bmw dealer quoted me a price of around $700 to fix the heating element.i have not fixed the problem yet and do have the old malfunctioning part.thank you for your time and keep up the great work! updated 12/20/10 received invoices. Updated 12/21/10
My heated seat catched on fire. Driver side seat left side rear. I got burned as i was driving on a parking lot. I realized that my pants have a whole as well as of the seat
Drivers side heated seat burned through leather seats on right side of seat at rib cage. Slightly burned driver. Had a electrical burning smell. Left about a 6 inch burn line in the seat. Very unattractive!
Driver's side seat heating element electrical short, burned hole through leather seat when heated seat is turned on.
My heated seat caught on fire and burned me and my coat. I very rarely used it at all. I started using it and it was probably the 10th time i used it when it occurred.
We own a 2006 bmw x5. Within the last week when the driver's seat warmer was turned on, the left side of he seat heated up almost instantly, and burns the left thigh and buttocks area of the driver. My husband received a 3 inch burnon may 15,2010. Five days prior to this i was aware that an area of the driver's seat was burning me, and i immediately turned the warmer off. The warranty expired on our car in december.
Just purchased the certified pre owned bmw x5. 2006 model and had it 1 day and the passenger side airbag light came on and would not go off. Returned car to bmw of dallas to have repaired. Approximately 40000 miles later at 68000 miles same light is on and will not go out.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5.the contact stated that the electric seat heater on the driver's side caught fire.while at a stop light, he noticed that the seat was smoking and his leg was burned.the seat heater was activated prior to noticing the failure.he took the vehicle to the dealer, where it currently remains.the manufacturer stated that they were aware of the issue; however, the failure was a result of the risk of having seat heaters.they also stated that they would repair the vehicle for free.the current and failure mileages were approximately 27,000.
Sudden loss of brake function and leaking brake fluid during normal weather ad road operations.after doing research there is a large group of similar year make and model with this same issue.
Brake booster failed while stopped without any warning lights
The brakes failed while i was driving to work. I stepped on the brakes to stop from approximately 30mph and the vehicle did not slow down or come to a stop. I had to steer onto the median to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me. Mechanic said the booster needs to be replaced. No warnings displayed in dashboard. Extremely dangerous and i'm lucky to have avoided a more serious accident. Someone could have been seriously hurt given the size of this vehicle.
2006 x5 vin [xxx] while in motion on a city street and hwy!1. Brake booster / vacuum line failure same as recalled 2007-2010 issue.why is my 2006 x5 bmw not covered when there is clearly a systemic failure of this same system? i seek immediate relief and demand upon you a recall for my specific bmw now today. [xxx] call me!2. Alternator failure x5 acted possessed with all lights going on and off before shutting the car down on a freeway while at max legal speed. Alternator is placed low on the left side where oil leaks into it causing a failure mode.the same oil leaks cause other rubber components to swell up crack and fail such as boots and rubber bushings on arms. Where is the recall?? 2006 where is it?? 3. Brake light system failure back r/h and changing light bulbs didn't bring it to working condition. Bmw used a screw driver to make it work again after the airbag and alternator repair they did..i paid for the alternator but it should have been a recall item! now my brake lights don't work back r/h side.5. 1 head light out6. Engine leaks oil on the side onto my x5 rubber components and i already had to pay for a new boot and arm! other rubber items are all bad and getting worse! where is the recall? why are these safety items not being recalled by your governmental organization? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
While sitting at a red light the brake pedal all of sudden became hard and applied a unreasonable amount of pressure against my leg.in order to make the car stop i needed to exert a tremendous amount of pressure in order to stop the car from rolling forward and hitting the car in front of me.there has been a recall for the 2007 and newer 8 cyl x5 brake boosters.obviously this is the same problem and there should be a recall done with this car as well.any denial on the part of bmw that this is a product defect is a denial on their part.
My x5 4.4 began to have a harder and harder brake pedal.in a three week period it went from a little hard at the end of the stop to absolutely no brakes.what is more concerning is that my mother-in-law also hasa 2006 x5 4.4 that the same exact thing has happened and she has half the miles. This appears to be a workmanship or design fault since it is not mileage dependent but age.it is an absolute safety concern since the brakes will completely fail shortly after the 1st indication.bmw has a history of skating on recalls, the same problem happens to 5 series using the same set up and it was recalled.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that while at a traffic light, the brakes failed to respond. The problem recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified about the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
Very disappointed in bmw this time.my brakes system suddenly failed, causing my vehicle to crash into a poll in the street parking.front bumper was completely damaged.right after, we found out that the brakes were not working properly, has to keep full force on brake to keep at full stop.we called bmw service they said to just bring the car as they recently recalled my car for recall for this issue. We took the car to bmw service, after they checked my vin # they said my car was actually not covered in that recall, even though it was the same problem.this incident could have been worst, someone could have been seriously injured or killed as a result to this sudden loss of brake assist.called bmw, but they are not willing to do anything at this point until a official recall is posted for 2006 year x5 4.4 models. Now i havebody damage and a $1,500 brake repair estimate i have to deal with. "not good bmw.not good." please consider this as a recall guys, every x5 4.4 owner should get thispreventive maintenance, i see many other people complaining about the same issue.
The issue is specifically with the braking system. The car developed a sudden dangerous loss of braking power. One moment the brakes were working correctly and the next they were not. Bmw has 2 recalls for this issue but for unknown reasons my car is not included in either recall. The recall campaigns are 10v-446 & 13v-045. The description of the problem is the following: "this recall involves the power assist braking function. A small amount of oil could leak from the brake vacuum pump into the brake vacuum hose. Over time, contamination of the brake booster could occur. This could affect the power assist braking function. In certain cases, loss of power brake assist could occur. If this happened, it would require greater brake pedal force, increase the stopping distance, and increase the risk of a crash. " my car has the exact issue as described in the recalls. There is no warning light to indicate there are any issues with the brakes. I called bmw na and described the issue to them and they told me to take it to my local bmw dealership to have the issue diagnosed. The local dealership determined my car had the issue as detailed in both bmw recalls. As instructed by bmw i reported this back to them and after several weeks they followed up with me (2/10/15 to be exact) only to tell me they will not fix the issue as part of the recall and thus i would have to pay for it out of my own pocket. This decision was made despite the fact that my car meets nearly all parameters of the recalls (my exact model is not listed as part of the recall but the model of braking system and engine matches the recall details). This is a serious safety issue and one that i do not believe bmw should be overlooking or denying coverage for. This brake issue affects more than just the cars listed in the two bmw recalls.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the contact applied the brakes but the vehicle failed to decelerate. The contact had to apply both feet to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test. The test results showed a defective brake booster. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 114,000.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle, the vehicle continued to move forward although the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician was unable to locate a failure. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. While driving 65 mph, the brakes failed without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster, cylinder, and vacuum failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v446000 (service brakes). In addition, the brake pads were replaced a year ago. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was included in the vin and that it would be an out of pocket expense. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the brakes upon engaging for a brief moment. After coming to a stop, the contact was able to resume driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed that the power assist was faulty. The brake booster, vacuum pump and power assist would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 143,000.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that the while driving 10 mph, the contact attempted to brake but the brake pedal seized. The vehicle did stop, but hesitated to respond. The failure recurred at different speeds.the vehicle was inspected at an independent repair shop where it was determined that the failure was caused by oil that was present in the brake booster. The vacuum pump leaked oil into the brake booster, causing the brake assist to fail. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 120,000.
The brakes pedal becomes hard and is unable to stop vehicle.this occur while the vehicle is moving.in addition the brake pedal is hard while stationary as well
On august 8th 2013 while we were on vacation in northern ny, the vehicle braking system failed -' pedal to the floor with very minimal braking function. This is a huge concern in any area, but we were in a mountainous region of ny and this could have ended very very bad. Luckily it didn't.i called the closest bmw (keeler) dealer and spoke with a service representative. I noted the year and model and explained the symptoms. The service representative knew immediately what it was. He had me check under the driver's side of the vehicle for a brake line leak. Sure enough he was correct; brake fluid was dripping from the cover under the driver's floor. He made note that they see this very frequently in their service group. They had another x5 in the shop for the same problem and because that owner was a "local", keeler used their parts for our vehicle.very concerning is the fact that a month earlier, we had a nys inspection and the corroded brake lines went unnoticed.when we returned home, i spoke to the bmw of rochester service guys about this. To my surprise, they confirmed that they to see this corroded brake line problem on a regular basis. I paid $2106.57 for a problem that your service teams see on a regular basis, yet nothing has ever been mentioned to me and the vehicle passed the nys safety inspection a month earlier. I worked with bmw of rochester service and discussed my concerns regarding the brake failure. Bmw extended a good faith offer of $2000.00 towards a new vehicle. This appears to be a common problem that the bmw service shops see frequently. It rendered the vehicle unsafe to drive and should have been discovered with a proper safety inspection. Best regards.
Brake warning light came on, went to my repairman who added brake fluid and said to watch for brake fluid spots on garage floor. Found spots coming from area behind front wheel on drivers side. Took it back for check and it was determined that line had rotted through. Hard to understand this was in enclosed protected area.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that oil was leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis who informed the contact that the brake vacuum pump would need to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the contact was informed that the vin was not included in the manufacturer's recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 46,000.
Steering wheel vibrations on high speed on highways.when braking car merges to left. I am not sure of the date but im sure the dealer computers will have the history of maintenance. This happened 3 times from they day i got the car till today. The car dealer always took care of the service.
The contact previously owned a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that he had an issue with the brake system. His spouse was driving at a low speed of about 5-10 mph and when she depressed the brake pedal and there was no response. The vehicle jumped the curb in a parking lot and hit the wall of a building. There were no injuries but a police report was taken. In november 2007, the brakes failed again and the vehicle hit a wooden pole in another parking lot. There was another report taken at the scene of the accident. The driver cited the brakes as the cause for the failure again. The contact also noticed that the brakes would not engage on 3 different occasions but the failures did not cause any accidents. The contact took the vehicle to the dealership but the dealer stated that they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle and gave him the vehicle back with no repairs made. The contact then turned the vehicle in to the dealer for a newer vehicle. The contact had not spoken with the manufacturer. The mileage at the time the contact sold the vehicle was 14,776. The failure mileage was 12,476.
1. Brake light came on in 2006 bmw x5 on 8/1/10. 2. The vehicle was taken tobmw dealerto be repaired, on inspection they found "both front axle -cv boots split and spraying grease on brake calipers". The vehicle was repaired to bmw standard3. On 8/11/10 the vehicle was in an accident- the brakes was sluggish and did not respond.

We have a 2006 bmw x5 that we have had 5 sets of front brake rotors replaced for warping.when the rotors warp you get a sever shake in the front end with high speed braking that may cause loss of control of the vehicle.i have contacted bmw of north america about the issue and they confirmed they know it is an issue but said they are not going to try to resolve the issue.they will only offer a 2 year warranty on the rotor so it will not cost the customer to replace it.these parts fail after approximately 10,000 miles.my wife has almost lost control of the car on the expressway due to this issue.it need to be addressed.

Brake pads wear out within 35,000 klm on bmw x5. Not covered under extended warranty and the average for performance brakes like these are suppose to be 50,000 klm. Bmw will not replace the brake pads without replacing all 4 rotors at the dealership level. All other vehicles with performance brakes on sports cars have lasted over 50,000 to 90,000 without replacement of brakes. We're not hard on brakes if you take a look at our last 2 vehicles with performance style brakes on sports cars...

Driving on the highway about 50 mph, no vehicles near us, no trees, not even a bridge around us and we heard loud gunshot-type explosion and the small window to the panoramic sunroof just exploded. There was not an impact of any kind from the outside. The glass is broke from the inside with no puncture whatsoever. Glass is now falling and also blowing off the car. The cover shade is currently keeping it from coming in the car, but not for long.
Shattering or exploding sunroofs on bmw vehicles.upon doing my on-line research, it has become apparent that on several models of bmw vehicles, including the x-5, a large number of sunroofs have shattered while the vehicle is being driven. In the case of the vehicle owned by my firm, the sunroof was closed, there were no construction trucks in front of the vehicle nor any overpasses within miles of the vehicle when it shattered.in this instance, there was a police officer behind the vehicle who witnessed thescene and rendered assistance to the driver. Despite the abundance of glass in and around the vehicle, no one was physically injured by the flying glass.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. While parked, the contact attempted to open the front driver's door from the exterior but it would not open. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a diagnostic test. The mechanic stated that the door handle was broken and would have to be replaced. After the repair, the failure occurred on the front passenger side and the rear driver's side doors. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
Suspension problems. Very, very bumpy, rough ride.
Takata recall white smoke comes from exhaust pipes when driving and fills the streets while driving on city streets in traffic and at idle. Other drivers behind me can't see due to the smoke coming from the exhaust.
1) the air bag light does not go off. It stays on. Air bags engage but light is just as bright as can be.2) ignition switch security latch does not release. Have to smack steering wheel after turning off alarm to place key into ignition slot.

When driving a lot of white smoke comes out of the back exhaust pipes and fills the streets up with smoke why passengers cars are behind me in traffic. Other cars can not see and it's very dangerous. This is due to car having a unsafe bad engine valve seal leak. Bmw knows about this problem for a long time and they fail to correct this problem until someone dies due to the valve seals leaking and causing smoke in traffic.

I drive a 2006 bmw x5. This morning while completely stopped in the drive thru of the bank at the window, reaching into the open drawer for a deposit slip, my bmw accelerated wide open on its own. I distinctly looked down and my foot was on the brake. The car was moving extremely fast and the engine was revving as if the gas was pressed even though my foot was on the brake. The drive thru opened up into a long parking lot. I was able to pull up the parking brake to stop the car. It was so scary and i was at the point to make a decision to get into traffic, if i could make the turn or to hit a retirement building. Once the car stopped, i put it in park and turned it off. I checked to ensure there was not anything on the gas pedal and there was not. This is a major issue and i am so thankful to god, he allowed me to stop this car. This has to be some type of defect.
Rear section of moon roof will not close so car can not be in rain or washed as it will come right into car. Reading on the internet i see this is a very common problem.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw x5. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, it rained and water entered through the sunroof and created moisture in the vehicle. The air bag warning light then illuminated. The contact believed that the air bag warning light illuminating was related to the water entering the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or mechanic independent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
