The contact owns a 2014 bmw x3. While driving at approximately 55 mph, the brakes failed to respond causing the contact's vehicle to crash into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. On another occasion, when the brake pedal was depressed, they failed to respond and caused the vehicle to crash into the rear of another vehicle. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,000.

Takata recall - got a notice in the mail regarding this recall for my bmw x3.

My vehicle has the ' defective takata airbag ' and bmw refuses to recall and replace the airbag.. They would rather pay damages after the fact then correct the problem !

Vehicle intermittently lost power in motion on a highway causing the speed to drop at times from 55 to 45 until slowing down to a stop and intermittently caused random alerts to come on such as "door open" when driving when door was locked/not opened or powertrain alert or chassis stabilizer alert. This happened prior to hid installs but occurred more frequently with hid installment. Dealership discovered the accelerator pedal module was faulty. Very unsafe. Apparently the extra voltage from the lights was the reason for the increased duration for this faulty issue. Multiple reports of this on forums. Car is only at 46k.

Animal chewed electrical wiring on three different occasions rendering the car not drivable.had to be towed three times. My car was parked in my garage the first two times and the third time in my driveway.i have all insurance documentation.

Received multiple error messages "battery discharging while stopped" and "increased battery discharge". I smelled burning plastic.next day i received error the tpm has malfunctioned. I contacted my servicing dealerand explained the problem. He stated he sees this all the time and the cost to repair is $324 for a new rdc module + one hour labor + two hours to reprogram.i removed the rdc module and found extreme moisture damage and melted plastic near the connector in the module. In the attached photo, i attempted to clean off corrosion.after more research i found a bmw training manual describing the module and it states the module is water-proof.

Cigarette lighters are non operational.fuses are blown every 2 to 3 months.constantly replacing fuses.

1)at 14k miles, the transmission transfer case failed. Local bmwservice shop replaced the case to resolve the issue.i was surprised bythis issue at this low mileage as i have been driving many carsfor past 25+ years, butnever had such problems.2) in last week of jan ,my car engine completely stopped and car came off drivemode while i was driving my car on highway. Fortunately, there was nonebehind my car and i was able to safely stop my car with the emergencylights on.car would not go in drive mode until i had stopped enginecompletely.i started driving again, and few minutes later same thinghappened again. Fortunately again there was no vehicles were behind me *buti was scared to death both the times with heart beating really hard.*3) i thought i may inadvertently have touched some buttons, and this mayhave happened, so i decided to be more mindful about not touching anybuttons etcand observe one more time.4) 2 days i drove the car w/o issue.5) few days later, when i was driving back home, same thinghappened again and luckily this time too, i did not have any vehicle behindme.given, it was late in the evening (service shop was closed), i decidedto take the vehicle to dealership next day.6) next day i took the car to dealership and they ran diagnostic andfound nothing. But they decided to talk to bmw usa for further diagnosis.7) today, i received a call from the dealership and they said, bmw-usadid not found the any cause that may have caused the issue but given engineintermittently stopped, they are going to replace the whole engine.even after replacing the engine, i feel that they did not address the root cause i suspect there is something more to it and this vehicle is not safe to drive. Reporting this see if others have experienced this and qualify for recall.

Our parked bmw x3 was in our driveway turned off when it suddenly burst into flames and also caught our house on fire and our neighbors house.there is currently no recall on this year and model.no engine lights were on and we regularly service our car only with certified bmw mechanics. The car is completely burnt to the ground.after further research this is not the first time the x3 has caught on fire and burnt down someone's home and yet no recall and bmw has yet to take responsibility.we have everything on our security cameras.

As an electrical vehicle i ran out of gas and was not able to put my vehicle in manual neutral and the vehicle automatically went into park which if a lot of oncoming traffic was coming i would have been hit.safety hazard for not gear shift to press for parking

Gear shift parking hazard roll back or safety when parking

When i turn on the car, the electrical dashboard has a delay.i turn on the car, start to drive, the dashboard will delay in turning on (happens at least 1/month in the last 1.5years). Winter 2015/16 doors would not lock manually or by key fob. In fear of theft, i drove home and the doors would not lock. Additionally, dashboard notification said driver side door was ajar while driving (took pictures). Lastly, trunk release is constantly jammed and can't be opened manually, trunk release button, or key fob. From time to time i will not have access to the trunk and have to go through the back seat. I have been to my local bmw dealership in summer 2016 and the problems still occur.

Turbo waste gate actuator rod rusted out. This immediately led to loss of turbo-charging,leading to a dangerous situation due to low engine output.there is no warning prior to this occurring. This is a systemic problem for this model/engine as evidenced by the bmw tsb:https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/mc-10154818-9999.pdfi feel this issue is widespread enough and unsafe enough to merit a recall of the actuator unit/rod -- at least in northern states that use salt on their roads

Engine began making clanking noise while driving on highway and rapidly worsened. Engine started losing propulsion power and i pulled over. Car towed to mechanic. Oil filter inspected and was covered in metal shavings. Informed that the bmw n20 engine can experience a premature timing chain or oil pump drive chain failure outside of the limited power train warranty period and unanticipated engine timing chain or oil pump drive chain failure may result in extensive engine damage (applicable to my vehicle) and could have resulted in serious safety hazard while driving on congested highways. My engine has been diagnosed as failed and requires a new engine. My vehicle had 76,000 miles at time of failure.

I was driving home on a city street when the engine light began to flash. I was getting close to being home so i continued to drive to try to safely get my car off the street. It then began to drive slower and slower even as i was stepping fully on the gas peddle (well below the city street limit of 35, as cars started to go around me). The car then completely shut off. I luckily had made it to a neighborhood road and was able to glide over to the side as much as possible. However, because the car was no longer operational it was still in the street and i was stranded in the rain until the tow truck got there hours later. Once i put the car in park it would not go back to neutral so i had to wait for a specific tow truck. Once my mechanic was able to take a look he said that the timing belt had broken and destroyed the engine. In his opinion this is unheard of in a car with just over 70,000 miles and 6 years old. I had just purchased the car from a high end used dealership 5 months prior and they said they found that bmw had put an extended warranty on the timing belt for 70,000/7 years for this specific issue. When i called bmw they would do nothing because the warranty was no longer in effect, even a mile over 70,000. They clearly know this is an issue with this vehicle and never properly remedied a very serious safety issue. My normal commute is all freeway. This could have been a very serious, if not fatal accident if it had occurred on the freeway.

The oil-feed line for the turbo on the (n20) engine of the 2014 bmw x3 was replaced due to leaking oil into the engine. On cold startup a plume of blue/white smoke is seen emitting from the exhaust tailipie for approximately 30 seconds. This bmw x3 has the standard, common n20 engine.this issue has been addressed by bmw for model years 2012 and 2013, but not 2014.this turbo-oil line failure is a well-known and common defect. Bmw has issued "service bulletins" and extended the warranty on the 2012 and 2013 models for this express issue. The service bulletin is attached. Bmw has been contacted and are refusing to cover the 2014 model although it is the same engine defect. The repair part includes a redisign of the original part and now includes a check valve. This is a clear example of defect in design. Bmw verbage is listed below:the 'new' engine oil feed line part numbers listed above incorporates a 'check valve' on the engine side of the engine oil feed line. The check valve eliminates engine oil pressure equalization and the consequential engine oil leakage past the turbocharger's 'exhaust side' turbine seal.on contact with bmw i could not get a clear answer why the 2014 model was not covered, but i did get bmw to confirm that the engine and the original part are identical to the defect parts in the 2012 and 2013 model.would nhtsa open an inquiry on the 2014 model n20 turbo oil-line defect please?thanks[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Dear nhtsa, the oil-feed line for the turbo on the (n20) engine of the 2014 bmw x3 was replaced due to leaking oil into the engine.the car was blowing white smoke when idling or driving, indicative of burning oil. This bmw x3 has the standard, common n20 engine and only 37,000 miles.unfortunately the repair was done outside the standard 4 year warranty period.yet this turbo-oil line failure is a well-known and common defect.bmw has issued "service bulletins" and extended the warranty on the 2012 and 2013 models for this express issue.the service bulletin is attached.they are refusing to cover the 2015 model although it is the same engine defect. By 2015 bmw had re-engineered the turbo- oil-line with a better check-valve.would nhtsa open an inquiry on the 2014 model n20 turbo oil-line defect please? sincerely,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Faulty turbo hose causes oil to leak and smoke from engine. Seems to be common problem that i wish bmw would address.

Rear brake light continue to go out intermittently. Vehicle sometimes displays the warning message on the dash only a portion of the time. When the light does come on, it is about 5-10 minutes after starting the car and driving it a few miles. Took my x3 to a service center in atlanta where i was told they couldn't find anything wrong with the brake lights. Warning light returned 48 hours later. After some research, it seems like my 2014 x3 is not the only one with this issue.

During replacement of the xenon headlamp bulbs on the vehicle i noticed that all the vinyl wire covering material had become brittle and cracked off most of the copper wire in side both the headlamp assemblies. The now exposed bare wiring possespotential fire hazards and also loss of lighting at night.i believe that the oem headlamp supplier supplied out of spec wire and should remedy this potentially dangerous life safety situation.

The soldering on the circuit board that controls the led tail lights fail and are not serviceable.also the on board diagnostics does not alert when when the led tail lights are out

Tail light stopped functioning . Based on research on internet , it seems, its due to faultylight controller. This seems to be common problem . This is real safety issue as it can happen anytime,i am providing one of the links for reference : http://www.carproblemzoo.com/bmw/x3/tail-light-switch-problems.php

Tail light failure due to a manufacturing defect.led driver boards are failing due to bad solder connections, components do not fail but the assembly does.i believe the defective solder joints are probably due to contamination on the bare circuit board.i've repaired mine (albeit probably only temporarily due to the contamination).the failed joint on my assembly was exactly the same one identified in this youtube video i found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdpbm6cp_yoit's apparently a very common problem, so much so that there are multiple sources for replacement modules common on the internet (do a search on b003809.2 and you'll see what i mean), even though the modules are "not replaceable," according to bmw.bmw charges hundreds of dollars to replace the whole tail light assembly even though it is obviously a manufacturing defect, not a wear out problem. Failure of the led drive disables the tail light assembly which is clearly a safety issue.the preponderance of premature failures due to a manufacturing defect needs to be addressed by the manufacturer but they are not doing anything.

Bought a new 2014 bmw x3. In november 2014 without any warning, this suv had a mechanical breakdown in the middle of the street. This vehicle controlled itself,i was not in control of this vehicle.for more than half an hour, the truck was jerking hard back and forth if i took my foot off the brakes. The wheels were not moving any time.i could not exit this vehicle because the body was jerking.i thought about jumping out but i didn't know if the vehicle would hit someone or i would have been hit by another vehicle, hurt from jumping and falling, etc. The vehicle cabin felt as though it was disconnected from the bottom of the suv and held together with springs.my life was in danger as a result of this.the flasher stopped working after a couple minutes.i pushed the starter/stop button, the remote lock, the emergency brake, etc. But nothing kept the truck from moving unless i kept my foot on the brake for over half hour. Also, i had conversations with geico tow and bmw tow while this was taking place.i could not control this vehicle!the damages were extensive to this vehicle that the dealership had to get bmwusa to authorize the repairs. The mechanic told me in all his years, he had never seen anything like this. The tow truck driver could not get the x3 to move either. I want passport bmw to fully disclose all the problems with the vehicle to the new owners because they appear to minimize damages in their report to me. After this experience, i had to buy another vehicle because i will never drive/ride in that x3.my thoughts are with the people that purchase that x3.

Driving on 3 lane road traveling approx 20-30 miles per hr cars ahead of me stopped and i applied the breaks and nothing happened, car kept going and i hit the car in front of me.seemed like the car didn't even slow down.

The contact owns a 2014 bmw x3. While driving 30 mph, the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed. As a result, the contact swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid rear ending a vehicle. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed, but the technician could not find a failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 29,000.

It's winter i was wearing ight ll bean boots. Came to a stop sign put right foot on the brake pressed on the brake to stop and the car accelerated the harder i pressed the more it wanted to accelerate.i realized that the accelerator and brake pedal are close together and at the approximate same hight from the floor. I purchased this car yesterday. I called the dealership i purchased it from as i had another issue with the finance papers, i had also sent them a email explaining what happened. The finance person was aware of my email and told me the same thing happened to him moving cars in the lot he actually ran into the back of a x5 because of it. He recommended putting a piece of wood on the brake pedal to raise it from the gas pedal. My concern is this is a safety issue and someone is going to get badly hurtby not be able to stop and going into a intersection with flowing traffic.

I purchased a vehicle in good faith from bmw on 12/23/2019 what i thought would be a great christmas present, for myself. Little did i know i was buying a road hazard. In less than two months a tire light came on, i took the vehicle a guy a the service desk reset the light it never went off i then took the vehicle again to have it looked at and i was told it was a $4600 repair. I was totally taken aback. I advised the dealership that i would not pay for a problem that was clearly there when i purchased the vehicle. I told bmw i would not pay for the repair of $4600, considering it appeared to be an underline problem that was not disclosed when i purchased the vehicle.

I recently purchased my first bmw in october 2013 at a dealer in florida.in march 2014, my husband and i were traveling when suddenly the steering wheel stopped working. I was completely unable to steer the car, so we stopped on the road. We immediately called bmw service center and were reassured that this was a known problem. We were told to restart the car and continue to drive. The steering wheel worked again temporarily until 2 minutes later when it locked again! this time we were on the highway and you can imagine how terrified i was. I could not even change lanes the steering wheel was so tight.the second time i called the service center and still was reassured. I was advised to bring the car in during the next week. A third time i restarted the car and tried to take the next exit ramp off the highway, when it happened again. I narrowly avoided an accident because the car almost drove off the ramp since i couldn't turn. I called the service center and told them we were coming now. Looking back on the situation, i wasn't offered a towing service to get my car safely to the bmw service center and it just seemed as though the problem was not being taken as seriously as it should have been. My husband and i switched because i was so scared because i did not have the strength to turn the steering wheel even an inch on a busy main road. The main reason for this letter is that to this day that i still fear that this can happen again and it can happen to anybody. I spent well over $50,000 on my first brand new bmw, and i no longer have the confidence to feel safe in my own car. Bmw played down severity of my experience. I narrowly avoided accidents on the highway when the steering wheel effectively locked on me. I am not looking for an apology, but rather i am looking for some sense of security and an investigation by bmw since this may happen to more people.

The 2014 x3 has a directional control issue.when accelerating from low speeds, within 2-3 seconds without a firm hold on the steering wheel, the car departs the lane of travel, diverting to the right hand side.in steady state driving regardless of speed in a range of 30mph-75mph, within 5 seconds without firm hold on the steering wheel, the car diverges to the right from its lane of travel.with any slight distraction of the driver, the x3 drifts to the right hand side, always the right side, and has been uncorrected with alignment, new tires, new steering arm.my local bmw dealer has refused to fix this problem even with a car under warranty.many other bmw x3 owners have reported the same problem on bmw forums online.this lane departure is a safety issue that always happens while the car is in motion.

The contact owns a 2014 bmw x3. While driving approximately 50 mph, the power steering failed momentarily and then returned to normal. Bmw of bloomington (1604 commerce pkwy, bloomington, il 61704) diagnosed that the wiring harness became corroded due to water intrusion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000.

Sun roof exploded while driving on highway

The contact owns a 2014 bmw x3. When the outside temperature dropped, the tire pressure sensor goes off and the warning sensors illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle had to be stopped to reset the panel, which could distract the contact while driving. The contact lived at a high altitude that caused the sensors to go off. The dealer (schomp bmw, 1190 plum valley ln, highlands ranch, co 80129, (303) 730-1300) was called and stated that they were aware of the failure. The contact inquired if the tire sensor system could be disassembled, but the dealer did not return his call. The manufacturer was called and provided a case number. They also did not return the contact's calls. The failure mileage was 14,000.

2014 bmw x3 the sensor to the left rear tire has now indicated that the tire has gone low for the fourth time.*mwthe consumer was informed the valve stem was loose. However, he witnessed the technician tightened all of the stems.

When starting the car daily there is a large amount of blue smoke coming from the passenger side exhaust pipe only. Research shows and bmw confirms that this is due to a faulty oil line hat is the cause and can also effect the turbo charge. My question is that his is the exact same oil line in other bmw vehicles that have been recalled with the exact same problem, then why is this model with the exact same parr &problem not part of the emissions reduction recalls when it doing the identical same thing. On cold mornings forget about it. The smoke is so dense that it covers the whole block. I can't even park in the garage anymore from fear of getting deathly ill and the headaches are mind numbing. Please explain why some get recalled with the same issues? thank you in advance for your time looking into this matter. Blessings.

Consistent water leakage during rain fall. Vehicle has had numerous leaks which im assuming is from the sunroof.

I was driving my car about 30 mph and pulling up to a red light and pressed the brakes. The car suddenly accelerated on its own and i stepped on the brake. It started lurching forward, accelerating. I had to kill the engine. This has happened 3 times and it's terrifying.
