Nhtsa website claims that my vehicle has had an unrepaired recall. The recall is for: front passenger seat occupant detection mat: this safety recall involves the front passenger seat occupant detection mat. Depending on seat configuration and vehicle geometry, the mat can fatigue during field usage depending on the manner and frequency of the front passenger's entry and exit. Specifically, over time micro-cracks could develop in the side flanks of the mat. If a micro-crack leads to a break of a conductive path, the system will recognize a failure. Consequently, the front passenger air bags with the exception of the head protection system will be deactivated.

The vehicle was sold to us with an airbag warning light activated. Per our sales agreement dealer was to remedy the problem. When we took it back to their mechanic he stated there was an open recall for airbag and take it to a bmw dealer so they can replace the mat. That was last october and now over a year later my passenger side airbag is still not working properly.dealer is not concerned as i have called them several times and their response is " it is not our fault that it has taken so long for bmw to remedy the situation." so i am upset that it has been over a year and still no parts for the recall from bmw, as well as a dealer who got a car off their lot with a safety recall and took advantage of my not understanding the implications.

Takata recall.

I received a recall notice in november 2017. I took my car to bmw myrtle beach for the repair in december 2017. They gave me a loaner while the work was being done. They later told me the repair could not be done because they had ordered the wrong parts and that the repair parts are not currently available. In april 2018 my wife was in a near fatal accident where she had to be airlifted to a hospital and was in icu for almost 1 week. The airbag in our toyota sienna saved her life. In the spring, i connected with the local bmw dealership, who referred me to bmw north america where i logged a complaint. I also requested a loaner until my airbag system could be repaired. They denied my request and for a loaner. They referred me to their website to read their policy and said recommended that i call the local bmw dealership for help. I asked them for a written position statement but they would not provide it for me. Their recommendation was not to allow anyone to ride in the front seat. I purchased a 5-passenger vehicle and not allowing anyone to ride in the front seat is not an option for my family. I have no choice but to have a front-seat passenger. Nine months is too long for bmw not to have a remedy for such a serious safety issue. I cannot believe that they will not provide a loaner at no charge until thy have a remedy.

Front passenger seat air bag occupant detection sensor mat is defective.manufacturing date of my vehicle is 1/1/06 - six weeks after manufacturing date of recall 08v-384 for this issue.bmw customer relations informed me that the warranty on this item has been extended to 10 years.however, my "authorized bmw service center" did not notify me of this and estimated $137 for diagnostic work and $1242 to repair.recall should be expanded so that owners of these vehicles are notified that their airbags may not activate in a crash.extending a warranty that is not communicated in writing to vehicle owners or shared when brought in for servicing on it does nothing.

Head protection system was deactivated the air bag warning lamp illuminated and the air bag "on-off" lamp illuminated as well.after purchase there was no illumination of these lights and then about 2 years later while driving in the city at about 45 mph, both lamps illuminated when my son and i were heading to the store. I called bmw and they told me then that it was probably due to a cracked seat mat sensor and a recall on those sensors was being extended for 2006 x3 models.i called our local bmw today to schedule a repair of the seat and have the car parked in the garage since august 2017 due to a possible vehicle safety issue with a system failure of airbag deployment.my son has been unable to use the car for college which is 4 hours away.now i would like to understand why this vehicle is not considered under the extended warranty notices of 08v384000 or 17v605000.

The passenger airbag sensor has continuously stayed lit since initial activation, indicating there is no occupant in the seat when one is present.the airbag system will not deploy in the event of a crash because of this issue.a recall has been made by bmw on this same issue and has classified it as an airbag mat sensor issue with my year, make and model included.however, my vin is not showing up as a defective vehicle when the exact same issue is happening.this is a safety issue, not cosmetic.if any issue presents itself that will inflict harms to occupants, it should be a mandatory recall regardless of vin.bmw is not standing behind it's customers to protect the safety of them and their families.gross negligence.

Bmw of dallas ,tx said passenger seat sensor mat back ordered, it has been over 6 months. We need to be able to use this seat safely. They said they would call when avail.

When a person is sitting in the front passenger seat the "passenger airbag off" light comes on and the airbag light shows on the dash like the sensor isn't registering that someone is sitting there, then after a few minutes it goes off again and does this frequently.

Was informed that the sensor is outside of a recall nhtsa recall campaign number: 08v384000 (air bags:frontal) and that the repair would not be covered under warranty as it was outside the date of manf. Serious saftey issue the seat occupancy detection mat in the front passenger seat was replaced by bmw once in this vehicle while it was under warranty under manufacture's defect code: 6577081500. It has failed a second time at 82,000 miles. There is a recall for this issue but the vin is not covered in he recall. My vehicle was apparently manufactured right when bmw started installing updated sensors. This is not a coincidence. It has failed twice. It is a serious safety issue.

On april 15 the vehicle was in a collision with severe front end damage. The tear down estimate was over $10,000. Funny thing was the air bag did not deploy.

2006 bmw x3 passenger side airbag deactivation light come on intermittently. Sometimes the "fasten seat belt" light on the dash comes on while driving with a loud beep (while the driver is wearing the seat belt and there is no one or no object on the front passenger seat. This is more alarming as one is not sure if the air bag is going to work or not in emergency. This happens intermittently and searching the web shows others are having similar issues. I have taken it to the dealer a few times and each time they run some diagnostics, keep it overnight and tell me there is no faults registered, diagnostics found no issues, and they could not reproduce the problem and there is nothing they can do. Today they told me the same thing again and when i drove out of the dealership the fasten seat belt light went on with the beep but by the time i tured around to go back the alarm turned off. So i didn't go back. On the way home had to stop at the grocery and the light and alarm turned on again on the way home from grocery.it's pretty disappointing for a brand known for safety and quality.

Pertaining to bmw recall campaign 17v-605. This recall has been going on for more than two years and the manufacturer does not have any idea when parts will be available. My son was driving in bumper to bumper traffic (city street) barelygoing 5 miles per hour. He steps on the brakes and his airbags deploy. No collision was made between his car and the car in front him. All the airbags deployed except passenger side.i understand that this should happen at10mph or greater and a collision. No collision going around 5mph. Hard to justify. My son was very shaken by this incident where is almost afraid to drive. Car was towed to dealership, i placed a call to bmw north america. They are sending a investigator out to inspect the vehicle.since ther was no collision insurance isn't going to coverany repairsand bmw na isn'tacting as if they will do anything. I have read several blogs and complaints about recalls on the bmw airbags from all makes andmodels. The car 135,000 miles and has been a great first car for my son. There was a nhtsa recall campaign number: 08v384000 (air bags:frontal) that may be related to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000. Airbag indicator comes on when a passenger sits on the passenger side. It usually stays on til the vehicle is driving for several days without a passenger and once a bump is hit. The contact owns a 2006 bmw x3. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag light would not turn off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer as the failure was similar to recall 08v384000 (air bags: frontal). The contact was informed by the dealer that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 58,000.

Automatic airbag disarm light came on intermittently while adult passenger was in front seat.the light now remains on at all times and the front airbag is deactivated even with adult passenger in seat.called bmw usa was told my vin number not included in recall.i have the sport seats and same year as those with problem.obviously the same issue as other included in recall.highly concerned car with 55,000 miles will not be safe because airbags won't work.

Failure of front passenger airbag safety system as described in nhtsa action number ea08001 for my 2006 bmw x3 (54,700 miles).

Experienced a wet floor board in backseat on the driver side along with a puddle in the front driver side.dealership said it was a seal, they removed the backdoor panel and water test showed the vapor seal had became loose.the next rain, still a puddle in the front - which means that vapor seal went bad as well.also, water is dropping in from the sunroof controls on the roof.they still function and the seal around the sunroof seems bone dry.i also experience the air bag issue - it was fixed under warranty.but this may be a recall that bmw needs to look into.

Front passenger seat occupant sensor is defective. The air bag warning light is illuminated constantly along with the passenger side air bag off light. Was informed that the sensor is outside of a recall nhtsa recall campaign number: 08v384000 (air bags:frontal) and that the repair would not be covered under warranty as it was outside the date of manf. Which the recall applied to. The cost of repair at the dealership would be around $1000. Until the repair is made the front passenger side air bag is inoperable and will remain that way until fixed.

When a person is sitting in the front passenger seat the "passenger airbag off" light comes on and the airbag light shows on the dash like the sensor isn't registering that someone is sitting there, then after a few minutes it goes off again and does this frequently.

Heating element for front driver seat shorted, causing it to burn through the leather. Fortunately, i caught it in time before fire or injury. Searching the internet reveals that this has occurred for many others as well, sometimes with more damaging results.

Repeated flooding in driver-side back and passenger front. It has been the vapor seal along the door, top part of door near window, seal along the windshield and finally from the sunroof leading to drain leading to interior of car.i have been fortunate that no electrical issues have incurred, but due to the high risk of that happening, wanted to report the situation. This has been ongoing for over a year (fixed various issues with flooding every few months).bmw acknowledges that the x3 has water issues but that it is no fault of their's.i understand a vapor seal needing to be replaced once in a while- but this is far and beyond happening way too frequently. Just don't want any of the larger possibilities to come into play.

Internal headlight wiring is extremely flaking off its insulation, revealing bare wires throughout both headlights.both sections of the light are affected, xenon and halogen.discovered during routine bulb replacement.merely touching the wires caused extra flaking.seems to be a potential electrocution/fire hazard.

06bmw x3 3.0 driver seat heater gets extrememy hot in one spot. Hot enough to cause a burn if not turned off quickly.

Electrical and has been affected since the car was less than 5 years old, radio would suddenly get loud if volume was adjusted. After the electrical issues started about 2 years later my a/c started having issues thought it may be a leak but now after seeing the recall on electrical issues on some models this suv x3 should have been on the list but it's not, and should have reported this a long time ago that this is a lemon. The back window also slides down another electrical issue. Car was driven for pleasure every few days but has more issues than older cars.

We were driving in cold weather and activated the seat warmers on the driver and front passenger sides when we detected an odor of something burning and smoking.we stopped and got out of our suv and discovered a burnt hole/spot on the driver's seat, lower left seat back bolster.on taking it our bmw dealer for repair, we were told that the seat warmer was defective and that is what caused the burnt hole/spot on the seat back, i.e., "failed component 3".further we were told that our suv was two months out of warranty, and that the cost of repair would cost $2,900.we have searched the internet and discovered similar malfunctions on bmws equipped with seat warmers.further, we had to replace the seat warmer system on the front passenger side approximately two years ago because it too became inoperative.this is a clear case for bmw to absorb the cost of repair, since this seat warmer malfunction has a history of occurrences.thank you for your attention regarding this case.wv

The contact owns a 2006 bmw x3. While driving approximately 10 mph with the front driver side heated seat activated, smoke appeared from the seat. As a result, a hole was burned through the front driver seat and the contact's coat. There were no injuries reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 95,000.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw x3. The stated that the air conditioning unit failed to blow cool air. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was advised the contact that the evaporate cord needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

Driver seat caught fire when seat warmer was engaged. Leather seat has visible burn mark. Fire burned driver. When seat warmer was disengaged, smoke began billowing from seat, filling the vehicle with smoke.seat warmer was engaged upon vehicle start in owner's garage. Vehicle was moving approximately 10 mps (1-2 mins later) when fire began.

As i drove home from a long flight home after the holidays, the engine caught fire due to a frozen crank case ventilation system which caused oil to spray out in the engine compartment. I pulled over when i noticed smoke in the passenger compartment and smoke coming out of the hood. I was able to blow out the fire.temperatures were 5 degrees f that night. The dealer stated there was a "more robust crank case ventilation system" that they would install at my cost. After the week long repair, the dealer brought my car to the front and turned on the seat heaters. I drove about 5 miles before noting a pinching/painful sensation on my left upper thigh. I pulled over to find a burn mark on the leather seat and a burn on my left upper thigh. It appears to be due to a short in the seat heater.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw x3. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle started to overheat and stalled causing the engine warning light to illuminate. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the thermostat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 97,000.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw x3. The contact stated that there was fluid leaking from the vehicle and the coolant warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the coolant reservoir, but the vehicle continued to leak. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer wasmade aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.

My bmw x3 has had its engine mount bolts sheared off. There are no indications of the bottom of the vehicle having been hit by any objects.the vehicle's mileage is in the low 90,000 mile range. An internet search reveals that this is a common problem happening to many bmw x3's, at low mileage. They also claim that the broken motor mount bolts, could result in a serious accident.the bmw service manager, i talked to, indicated that he has seen this similar issues, but was not aware how wide spread the problem is. His guess of why this may be happening is due to different thermal expansion and contraction of the 3 different metals involved in the mounting system.the way i discovered the problem was that the engine oil drain plug was misaligned with a protective shroud.i have been occasionally noticing a thump coming from the engine compartment.i had my ball joints and front-end checked out about a year ago and everything checked out fine. I suspect now, that the thump sound is due to the sheared engine mount bolts.if that's indeed the case, i would have been driving the vechile with the engine mount bolts sheared off for about 1-1/2 years, unaware of the issue.the engine mounts are not easily inspectable, which is probably why the mechanic that checked out my front end suspension didn't check the engine mounts at that time.

On 8/4/2016 around 7:20am. I pulled into a parking space at work. My foot was on the brake and was a complete stop. Shifting from drive to park. The car excelerated throwing me back into my seat. I kept pushing the brake and the car would not stop. The car went airborne and excelerated a second time. I hit a fire hydrant and landed in the street. I was then able to stop the car. The distance from the parking stop to the road was about 20 feet. The car was towed to a bmw dealer. Bmw had my car for 8 weeks. They had 2 different techs come in to look at the car. The out come was that the brakes are fine and it did not have any codes. Nothing is wrong with the car. I told them that i didn't want the car back. Since they didn't see an issue i told them i would trade it in and they could be liable for someone else getting hurt. Funny how all of the sudden they totaled out the car. I ended up getting a concussion and whiplash and will be doctoring for a while. The person at bmw that was taking care of this is michael and his phone number is 201-571-5820. We were told by american family insurance person that going after bmw to get the reports from the techs would be very difficult. We really would like to know what the reports say. I feel like we were given the run around. I want bmw to acknowledge that they have issues with sudden exceleration. I am very angry on how i was treated. They gave us no information and we were without a car for 7 weeks. The last week they finally gave us a rental. Please look into this for me.

I started my 06 bmw x3 in my driveway to warm it up prior to driving.it appeared to be fine, i backed out of my driveway and noticed it was smoking from the exhaust.i drove about 100ft to the end of my street and the smoking worsened so i decided to return home.i turned onto the main street and drove at most 20mph for a few blocks to get back home.the smoke was pouring out of the exhaust so badly that i couldn't see out my back window.it was blue/grey colored.the car was putting and chugging.i did not make it home.eventually the car chugged a few times and completely shut down.the warning lights all lit up and i lost all power, including power steering.it was stranded across a driveway and would not start.i have followed all recommended maintenance, drive locally and use premium gas.there was no reasonable explanation to this failure.i had it towed to a local bmw repair shop and found that it was the "oil separator" that failed.my invoice states that it was an "engine hydraulic lock".the failure of the "oil separator", which is called a cyclone separator on my invoice, caused the car to flood with oil.the cyclone separator and crankcase vent hoses were replaced.researching online i found that this is a common issue with bmw, mostly the x5 models.bmw n.a. Refused to assist me, my warranty expired 3 months prior due to the year of the car, but had not met the mileage requirement.the repair cost $1100 and i was without a vehicle for 3 days.i also had to pay $70 for a tow as bmw would not honor the road assistance.

Jan 16 - check engine sensor light came on - car running sluggish.immediately took to dealership - they detected oil separator failing. Car started smoking at dealership.they replaced the oil separator and several parts due to damage- costs $2400. March 22nd - same sensor light came on - took car back to dealership - they have had the car for 1 week and still have not told me what is wrong with it other than there is oil everywhere and i may have head gasket or engine damage.possibly looking at another $1k to $5k.there is a manufacturer defect with this part causing serious damage to the engine.this is widely known and well documented all over the internet.this should be addressed by bmw and consumers should be given relief on the costs.bmw should support the correction of this defect and pay for the cost of repair. Dealer (chattanooga bmw) should have also informed me about the broader issue versus me finding out on my own research.

The intake boot between the mass air sensor and the throttle body cracks over time. This causes the check engine light to come on.even though this is a known failure item, and the car is within the cpo warranty period, bmw does not cover any hoses or tubes, as they believe they are "wear" items. Since it is not covered its a $175 dollar diagnostic fee and $38.54 for the part vs $50 deductible. You do not know if your repair is covered until the diagnostic, so short of having to take it to another mechanic to have it checked you could be penalized $125 for wanting you car repaired under the extended warranty which you paid extra for.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw x3.while driving between 60-65 mph, the contact began decelerating for traffic and the vehicle began shaking and then shut off.approximately two minutes later, the vehicle would restart.the failure has occurred four times and has been to the dealer three times for the stalling.the dealer could not duplicate the failure.most recently, the engine light began illuminating intermittently.the current mileage was 18,000 and failure mileage was 16,352.

Air conditioner temperature began to warm just on drivers side but remained cool on drivers side. Based upon my many years or working with cars, i assumed this was a malfunction ofsome of the "doors"in the air routing system had failed not allowing sufficient cool air on drivers side. Taken to regular bmw dealer (he has serviced all 6 bmw's i have owned) and was told ac condenser needed replacement. Car was 4 months out of warranty although mileage was lower than warranty limit. Dealer stated they contacted bmw and told me that bmw refused to cover repair under warranty. The repair was approximately $2200. Having been the director of a county consumer protection agency in tampa, fl, i followed the path of directions we give to our own consumers before we (as an enforcement agency) will normally initiate a complaint investigation. I wrote a letter to bmw outlining my problem.within three weeks my dealer called me and told me that bmw had contacted them, verified the repair and that i had paid for it. They then told the dealer to contact me and tell me that they were going to partially reimburse me for the repair. About a week later i received a check from bmw for a little less than half of the repair cost and no explanation. I have no idea how or why they choose to pay a portion versus all or nothing. However, since the car was out of warranty, i considered this a fair settlement for the bill. However, i still believe that the failure of the a/c condenser in five years of full time use was unacceptable performance for this part.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw x3.whenever the heat or air conditioning is activated, the contact smells burning plastic inside the vehicle.the odor is so strong that it burns her eyes and nose.the vehicle has been to the dealer approximately three times.during the first visit, the mechanic stated that there were probably leaves inside the vehicle, so they cleaned out the air conditioning system.there was no immediate difference.she took the vehicle back to the dealer two weeks later and they stated that they could smell something in the vehicle, but believed it to be cleaning fluid.the dealer did not want to service the vehicle.a few days later, the contact called the manager of the service department and was informed that they could not make any repairs since they did not know where the odor was originating.through online research, the contact found numerous complaints, but none with the same type of odor that was in her vehicle.she believes that this is a manufacturer defect, but has not been able to locate a dealer that will repair the vehicle.the failure mileage was 24,000 and current mileage was 27,000.

Headlight went out, upon inspection by a local independent bmw specialist it was brought to my attention that the rubber insulation on all of the wiring inside my xenon hid is flaking off. I was told those a common issue on most mid 2000s bmws. I was quoted 4000 for replacement of both headlights and they would eventually begin to flake again. With the recent onset of bmws catching on fire i would think this is a possible recall issue.

2006 bmw x3 "check gas cap" warning light comes on intermittently after refueling. Check the gas gap and everything seems ok. Happens consistently in temperatures over 40f.

2006 bmw x3 serious bucking of transmission above three thousand rpm under load going up a hill but also occurs on flat ground.had the vehicle in for service multiple times at two different dealers and bmw denied that there was an issue. The car was still under extended warranty.had service rep take a ride with me to show him the issue and he admitted that there was an issue with the car. In the end to make a long story short bmw said they would not fix the car because it wasn't a life threatening issue. I was on the highway a few times when the car started to buck and i had to move over into the slow lane because the car would not maintain speed. This could lead to a serious situation but bmw doesn't think so.

My drivers seat belt randomly unlatches while i am driving. This has happened more than 10 times , both on side streets and the freeway.a week ago i was coming home and about a block from my house the seat belt light lit up on my dash and started dinging. My seat belt was latched. It continued to ding until i got home and turned off the vehicle.

2006 bmwx3heater on the drivers seat malfunctioned and burned a hole in the seat and my coat.

Had been ongoing for a couple months the heated seat was malfunctioning. You would turn it on and the driver seat in the left side would start to heat up beginning from the butt area ending by the knee to the point where it was starting to sting and making itreally uncomfortable to sit. Just recently the seat heater got really hot to the point it burned the leather and burned my wifes butt. Go to inspect it while it was on and while pushing down slightly where the burnt hole was, sparks began coming out

2/5/10smell of fire in my 2006, bmw, x3, noticed drivers seat had a burnt hole mark.i brought the vehicle to the bmw service department and the service department found a manufacturing fault in the seat, heater shorted out.

Heated seat malfunctionedwhen turned on the seat got so hot it burned the back of my thigh, strong smell of something burning.turned it off right away. I had just turned th car on it happened within seconds of turning the heated seat button on.

Started the car in my driveway this morning and let the engine idle for a minute or two before driving off, i energized the drivers side heated seat to the lowest setting, after 10 sec or so i started to smell a burning odor and felt a sharp pain under my left thigh. I turned off the heated seat immediately, shut the car off, and got out off the car to see what the problem was. I noticed a small black burn mark on the seat that was very warm to the touch. I called bmw north america to file a complaint, the lady on the phone took my information and statement as to what had happened and suggested that i take the vehicle to an authorized bmw dealer for inspection. I had the vehicle inspected later this afternoon by concord bmw and was told by the service manager that since the car was out of warranty that the dealer would not cover any repair cost of the damaged seat. I asked if they would contact bmw north america on my behalf and ask them to authorize and pay for the repair due to the severity of the event, heated seats are not suppose to catch fire and myself or someone else driving the vehicle could have been burned. I was told no, that i would have to take it up with bmw north america on my own.

Heated seats gets too hot and burnt me on the left butt cheek.definitely a fire hazard as i could also smell something burning in the car.

My heated driver side seat shorted out and burned a hole in the leather seat, and luckily being in the auto industry and having a knowledge of seat construction i immediately turned the seat off.there are numerous reports of this issue on various bmw forums., including fires!i think this is a serious safety defect that bmw should be held accountable to fix and repair.

The heated seat device in the passenger seat becomes hot enough to burn your leg, primarily on the left side. A burning sensation and intense heat is felt when the heated seat is turned on, making it impossible to use, for fear of burns or fire.appears to be a common issue with these seat elements, and could cause serious burns or fire.why is there not a recall on a serious bodily injury, safety and fire issue?

Driver's seat heater element overheating.turned on seat dec 2015, got too hot.used diaper to insulate leg.seat heater melted diaper to leather.i have not used it since.an internet search indicates this is happening to other cars of this model.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw x3. While driving approximately 45 mph the heateron the drivers seat malfunctioned and burned a hole in the seat. As a result the driver was injured. The dealer was contactedand stated that they would not cover the repair cost because the warranty expired. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

I felt a burning sensation under my left leg and pulled the car over. Noticed that the seat had cracked and there was a discoloration indicating a burn. I switched off the heated seat and continued. I have felt this burning sensation a few other times and would turn down the heat or switch it off altogether. The dealer suggested a change of the seat cover which costs upwards of 1000 $s

Driver side heated seat caught on fire.

Seat heating system issue: without any earlier warning signs the driver seat overheated very quickly (within one minute of turning on the seat heaters) to the point of burning the drivers skin. A burning smell occurred at the same time. The driver had to get up from the seat rapidly to avoid any serious burns. This made bringing the vehicle to a controlled stop very difficult. The driver was halfway up from the seat with the seatbelt holding the driver back. This could have lead easily to an accident as it is very difficult to control a vehicle in that position. Fortunately, the vehicle was still at a slow speed and operated in a residential area. However, the risk of an accident or injuries at a higher speed and/or more populated area would have been much greater. I believe this is a serious safety related defect under the united states code for motor vehicle safety (title 49, chapter 301). Internet research and multiple complains on the nhtsa website confirm that this is not an isolated incident.

Front seat heaters become too hot on outside bolster ( left side on driver's seat, right side on passenger seat), burning hole in seat cover and burning person sitting in seat.

While using driver side seat heater, elements overheated burning through the leather seat and burning the left side/hip of the driver. Car was in motion and almost caused an accident. Pulled over and turned off the heater immediately and haven't used it since.

Within two minutes of driving, on a city street, the car with the heated seats on, i smelled a burning smell and thought it was coming from another car. But the smell got stronger and it didn't smell like a car-related smell. Eventually, the smell got so strong and pungent and i suddenly had a sharp pain on my left hip and i realized it the heated seat was burning me. The pain was so acute i had to lift myself off of the seat, which was dangerous and could've resulted in an accident, and i immediately pulled over and turned off the heated seats. Once i turned the heated seat off the pain and smell dissipated. I got out of the car and there was a clear burn hole both on the seat and on my pants. The smell of burnt fabric lasted in the car for several days and for the rest of the day i experienced sharp pains on my left hip as if it was getting burned again.

Driver's side seat heater wire burned through the seat, melted a spot on my vinyl raincoat and subsequently burned my buttock.vehicle was in motion on a city street at the time.

When testing the heated seats in this vehicle, after 5-10 secs, i felt a strong heat sensation on my left thigh. The there was a burn hole in the driver's seat on the left side. Switched off heat warmer right away.

While driving, with driver's heated seat set on high (3 lights for heated seat control),driver noted a burning smell.driver turned off cabin heat, heated seat and pulled off the road to identify the source of the strong burning smell.heated seat had burned through the leather seat and the external layer of the driver's down filled wool coat.vehicle was in motion on a residential street, manual transmission in 3rd gear, straight road. Occurred on 12/16/19. Included 2 pictures of the burnt leather seat and 1 picture of the driver's burnt coat. Seat and coat were burned, no live flame.

I was driving and noticed a burning smell. I had my seat heater on and noticed a very, very hot spot on the bottom part of the seat on the left side. I hurried and shut the seat heater off, but noticed burn marks on the leather. The seat would have definitely caught on fire if i hadn't shut off the seat heater.

Driver seat heater coil burned up while i was sitting in the garage preparing to leave causing hole in the seat and my pants.. I searched on youtube and it showed that there were several incidents of this happening. Shouldn't there be a recall for this problem

I was driving when i smelled smoke and realized that the driver's side seat had caught fire.i stopped the car, jumped out, and saw that a hole had burned through the car seat and i could see flames.i don't understand how this has not triggered a recall as it is obviously extremely dangerous to have your car catch on fire while driving.

After my 2006 bmw x3 had been running for about 10 minutes, with the heated seat on, i began to feel a burn in my bottom as well as smell smoke.i pulled over, got out, and noticed that the left cushion of my drivers seat was smoking and had melted about a quarter size hole in the leather upholstery.this is a common and know issue to bmw.however, they have not issued a recall.very dangerous!!!

I had a problem with the driver's side seat warmer in my 2006 bmw x3 starting on about october 21, 2013. While i was driving on a couple different occasions, i felt a "shock" in my left thigh. I didn't think anything about it until the seat warmer stopped working all together. I brought it to the dealer to fix and found that the entire heating element would have to be replaced, at a cost of over $1500. As i am looking into the problem, i found that this has happened to numerous others. I am fortunate that there was not a more serious injury, and that my seat was not damaged to the extent that others have encountered. However, this is an unacceptable problem and bmw should be taking care of it.

Was driving down my bmw x3 down the road with my seat warmers on and the inside of my car started to smell like something was burning ifigured something was wrong with my seat warmer so i turned it off a little ways down the road i pulled over to check and make sure my seat was okay and noticed a small burn on the bottom left on the back of my seat and i checked my sweater and there was a burn mark on it too

I'm filing this complaint on behalf of my wife. She was driving down the highway utilizing the heated seat function of the vehicle today when she smelled burning and the seat became dangerously hot. She pulled over and turned the heating function off which temporarily resolved the the problem. A little research on the internet reveals that this is a common problem with 2006 model bmw x3s. Some cases being so severe that people's seats have burned them and even caught fire. This is extremely dangerous.

Heated seat malfunctions causing "hot spot" that burns skin on rear upper leg.

Heated seat getting too hot too fast. Burning smell.

Turning into a driveway with a boulder on the edge/corner. With the drivers side seat heater on, the seat burned a hole thru the leather and made me turn abruptly and bumped the boulder. Damage to the fr. Bumper, inner fender and wheel.left side (drivers) seat bolster has a burn-through hole.

I was driving down the road at approx. 20 - 30 mph.there was a vehicle in front of me.as the light turned from yellow to red, first it was going to go through the light but then stopped.i slammed on my brakes and the abs brakes did not work.my brakes locked and i skidded.fortunately, the vehicle in front of me heard me squealing, and started easing forward.it happened to be a truck with a receiver hitch on the back.that's what i hit, pushing him into the intersection.he was not hit.the person i hit turned out to be a policeman.

My bmw is 8 years old with approximately 125 thousand miles and both rear coil springs are damaged. This is a bmw, the frame of this vehicle should not be damage in this type of car. Bmw are built to embody the highest quality and safety standards but one of the most important part of the car body is not functioning properly.there most be a deficiency on this part and as far as i know it should be a bmw original part.when i bought the car in 2009, it was a pre-certified car, when i asked what that meant the sales person stated "that all parts were checked and are originals bmw parts".i bad other type of vehicle for over 10 years and never had this type of problem, so never expected this from my bmw.i will appreciate your assistance on this matter, i believe this part is deficient and bmw should be paying for the repairs.i do expect more from them as they advertise their cars to be more durable and higher quality. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

I was exiting a city park, i was stopped waiting for a steady stream of traffic to pass so i could make a left turn. My foot was on the brake pedal and suddenly it seemed as though someone had pushed the gas pedal to the floor as i was holding down the brake pedal. I held down the brake pedal as hard as i could because the car wanted to take off at a high rate of speed across the traffic. I have never experienced this in this car or any car before, needless to say it was very frightening. The engine was racing at a extremely high rate of speed. I can't remember if i putthe car in park first or just shut the car off. I restarted the car and since it sounded alright i reluctantly put it in gear to drive home. I made it home safely without incident. This incident occurred on monday, october 26, 2009 . We contacted your agency first, but we are phoning our dealer in indianapolis to come and pick the car up, it will not be driven until it is thoroughly checked.

After each rainfall, front and/or rear passenger footwells flood, depending on the angle that the vehicle is parked. Dealership replaced vapor barriers but a water test revealed that the sunroof glass is too low, causing the leak.
