Read complaints for BMW X3 SAV (2008)

I received a notice the start of the year, called bmw and was told that i had an option to have a replacement vehicle which i declined as i was informed parts would be in soon. I called back in the summer and was told parts are slowly being shipped and that because i lived in a cold part of the usa those parts with water climates would have the repairs completed first and that i'm to call back in the fall. I called today oct 5th,2016 to be told that my vehicle could not currently be repaired and bmw are waiting on a governmental solution and in the meantime i must driver a loan vehicle until the final decision or solution is found. My complaint is that i was never called about the issue since receiving the notice in january 2016 and if i'd not called today i'd have never known.

Nhtsa campaign number: 16v071000 . Almost a year and a half and still no resolution from bmw meanwhile we are at risk everyday.i would like to at least see a schedule for repair rather than them using attrition to mitigate their cost.

Takata recall. I have beennotified of the recall for this item more than a year ago and there has been no progress in replacing defects.meanwhile, we are driving a time bomb that is more likely to injure us than offer protect from impacts.when is nhtsa going to force bmw to make repairs. My car is 9 years old now and i have been driving without protection for that long and the car's resale value is affected by this as well.

Additionally, the engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that the dmtl pump would have to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

Passenger seat alarm would go off constantly without anyone or anything in the seat.bmw replaced sensor under warranty.problem appeared to be fixed until the following summer 2012 when alarm on seat would go off again on a regular basis. Bmw refused to replace until complaint filed and i stated it was a driving hazard due to attemptingto fumble with belt while driving to stop alarm by securing belt. Bmw offered to replace alarmsensor i had to pay $300.00 for labor. This was late sept 2012.shortly after due to cold weather alarm did not go off any longer.i did not have alarm sensor replaced because it was now working properly until april of 2014 when alarm again began to sound and continued throughout this past summer. According to internet and forums on the internet this is a problem that has existed on x3s from the first year the car was sold.bmw apparently avoids doing anything to prevent this from occurring even in the newer models.this is an annoying and dangerous situation which should be addressed .in my complaint they stated i didn't accept their offer even though the alarm was no longer going off and that my warranty was over. Someone needs to make them accountable and their cars safer..

I bought my car at 88,000 miles and shortly after (5 days) my airbag light came on.i took it back to the dealer and they figured out what was wrong with it, then replaced the driver side curtain airbag.about a month later my light came on again and has been on since.since the second time the light has come on i took it to a different dealer (because i moved) and they said it is something to do with the passenger airbags but they would have to plug it up to a computer to figure out exactly what it is.

"takata recall" i am not sure if this vehicle has been fixed. I bought the vehicle in march of 2016.i am getting a warning light regarding the airbag and i am concerned.

Takata recall - became aware of driver's side air bag recall in june 2016; contacted local bmw dealer who estimated parts available to fix by october 2016. Contacted my bmw dealer again in january 2017 and was told parts are provided to bmw dealers based on vin, that my vin was on record with bmw, and that i'd be contacted when they became available. This nine month wait is unreasonable for this significant safety issue, and no estimate of when repairs will be made has been provided.

The passenger seat occupancy sensor is defective.this is part of the "seat mat", which is under recall.bmw sent an initial notice of recall in september of 2017.as of april 20, 2018 the parts are still not available to perform this recall.over 7 months!no one at the dealer or bmw usa can give us a straight answer as to when the parts will become available.the q and a part of the notice indicates no one should sit in the passenger seat until this is fixed!why is bmw being allowed to continue to delay fixing this safety defect?i would like to know what the nhtsa is doing to make bmw repair this in a timely manner!

As of today, oct 10th 2016, the recall repairs has not been done.

The seat occupancy detection mat failed at 7,285 and was replaced, then was failing again at 31,592 and bmw did not repair/replace when serviced but did confirm the problem. Know the seat occupancy mat is in total failure at 59,000. Bmw will not address the problem. This problem is part of a recall for most vehicle of this age but for some reason not the x3.

Takata recall: after being notified that my x3 was under recall earlier this year, i still have not received any updates to the recall or alternative options to make my car safe again. I have reached out to niello bmw here in sacramento and they are unwilling to put me in a rental or otherwise accommodate my safety needs. I need bmw to aggressively provide a solution so i can drive my family around without risking our lives by an airbag explosion. I am making a car payment and insurance payment for a car that has been dangerous to drive for 6 months. It cannot keep sitting in my garage. I need answers. Thanks.

My car was on recall for a defective airbag.i was notified in march 2016.i was told by my dealer they would notify me when they had an airbag. When i didn't hear from them still by early august i asked for a loaner car as i no longer felt safe in my car because of the constant worry about the airbag.bmw instructed me to park my car and "not drive it"which i did.finally on 11/28/16 they said they had an airbag.i brought the car in. The result from it sitting for so long has rusted my perfectly maintained brakes and rotors to be not safe to drive and my hood is frozen shut with possibility of flying off and killing someone. Bmw will not be responsible for the damage caused by the car sitting so long and i believe they should be. It is thousands of dollars worth of damage on a car that was perfectly safely drivable before i parked it to wait for an airbag. I have the bmw recall and the paperwork that says i had to park and not drive my car. They say i was supposed to maintain my car.i started it regularly to be sure battery was good and everything seemed ok.i don't know what else i should have know to maintain if the car was ordered to be parked and not driven. They should be responsible for this. Can you please help?

Takata recall -- bmw sent me a letter for the recall, but says they have no parts and by summer may have limited parts. They quoted nhtsa when i called saying they are probably safe. What is the point if there are no parts?

Vehicle was stationary.i was changing a fuse and was leaning over from the driver seat on to the passenger seat.after changing the fuse, i started the car and the airbag light illuminated.upon driving the car later with my wife, i noticed that the passenger airbag off light was illuminated as well.i then had the code diagnosed and it indicated a malfunctioning passenger seat sensor.i have sport comfort seats in my car.

Takata recall:i first received notice from nhts in feb. 2016 and went to dealer to have part replaced however they did not have the notice or the part.i received a notice from bmw in oct. 2016 and went to the dealer again and still no replacement part available in our area.i was told to just hang tight.please advise

Takata recall - i called east bay bmw and bmw of concord dealerships since receiving safety recall in june 2017 to make an appointment for the airbag recall service and i haven't received a call back regarding the parts arriving to the dealership. It is not november and i still haven't received a single phone call.

Takata recall...received recall notice months ago. Bmw has no idea when the part will be available to fix

Since purchase in 2013 from a dealer, with only 43000 mile changed battery twice at bmw peter pan, replaced power steering pump, window regulator, replaced starter , plus other services and window wipers are faulty, t-case actuator replaced, sway bar replaced, totaling $9531.38. I tried to complain to bmw corporation for selling a lemon car . Please let me know who i can complain about this car. Right now it only has 57k miles on it and i am being told it needs more work.

I brought my car into the dealership because it stalled and the check engine light came on briefly and shut off. The car was also hesitating on acceleration. The dealer determined the cause was a needed thermostat replacement. However, once under the car, the technician noted 3 of 4 engine mount bolts were "broken" and needed to be replaced. He said it was considered "wear and tear" and was not covered under warranty even though only one bolt was now holding the engine from falling out. This repair would cost approximately $400. Upon investigation, i noticed this website: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=528870 where people post about their bmws. It seems that several others have had this serious problem around the same mileage point with the same make and model, and several complained that the repair was not covered under warranty, even though it appears to be a manufacturing defect as the bolts are made of aluminum, not a strong material, and one that easily breaks.

Engine bolts are loose or have fallen out.

While slowing down my car (bmw x3 year 2008)engine suddenly shut down. I pull over put it in park and it and re-start auto. This has happen a number of times. The last time was today 10/08/2016 while slowing down at a yield sign. Lucky for me there hasn't been an accident yet.this has happened a number of times on a busy street, pulling in my driveway and on the highway during a backup.

Driving on a flat paved road and hear two mental ping sounds on the front passenger side.i pulled over to checkthe vehicle, and couldn't see anything. I pulled out and when i turned there was a loud vibration. This happened when turning left or right from a stop.when further inspected you could see the motor was hanging at an angle.the four bolts on the engine mount bracket had broken off causing the engine to hang down.after inspecting the parts you could see by the discoloration of two bolts that they had been broken for sometime . There is no way of knowing when the first one broke or how long it took the last two to break .this could cause a serious problem to the operation of the vehicle.i spoke with a bmw mechanic and he said they fix this problem all the time, its not unusual. Its defiantly a safety concern .

My bmw had been having a roaring, vibrating noise in it.then it started running hot.i parked in my garage only to find water and antifreeze all over the garage floor.when i took it to get it fixed, the mechanic told me that the bolts which hold the engine mounts up on the passenger side had broken and the engine was sitting sideways and had dropped down and crushed the water pump and coolant reservoir.the bolts are not substantial enough to support the engine.they are very lightweight metal (maybe aluminum) and just broke.the car has not been involved in any crash.there is no reason why the bolts broke, but it could have really put my family in jeopardy.when i contacted the dealer to see if there had been any recalls on these bolts, they acted like i was crazy and didn't know what i was talking about.

While driving at about 25 mph on residential street, felt an unusual "bump", continued driving home with no apparent problem.started car next morning and felt an unusual vibration and noise which disappeared when driving.vibration at idle continued, two days later, after driving on freeway, i found a broken bolt under the car in garage, i immediately took car to dealer service department.was told that several motor mount bolts had sheared and was lucky no serious damage occurred.quick internet search indicated sheared motor mount bolts to be a problem with bmw x3 years 2007 & 2008.broken motor mount bolts could result in serious accident and/or injury - again, i was lucky.

I have 2 dangerous recalls. One-no one can sit in the passenger seat because the air bags may not deploy and the second, my engine can be on fire due to a pvc valve. Bmw has no remedies and it has been over 4 months, this is unacceptable.someone has to put the pressure on bmw to get this fixed immediately. Thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I noticed water on the garage floor about a week ago and that the coolant was low.i took it to bmw dealer expecting a radiator leak.i was told that all 4 aluminum support bolts had been sheared and that the engine was resting on the water pump causing the leak.the solution, while covered by my extended warranty, is still costing me $50 deductible and another $200 or so to flush and replace the coolant (which was caused by the water pump damage).if i didn't have the warranty and was forced to pay for the labor, bolts, support brackets and a water pump - i would be even more irate that bmw hasn't issued a recall on this well known issue.

The contact owns a 2008 bmw x3 sav. While driving 55 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 139,000.

Service engine soon light came on.diagnosed at dealership that it was the dmtl pump that senses and gas leaks. I was told by service manager that it was out of warranty and i didn't have to replace it since i lived in pa in an area that didn't require it to work under our state inspections. The only problem was that the service engine light would be on and i would not know if something else was wrong with the car.later i was talking to service manager at lexus who was a former bmw service manager who stated it was covered under pa emission laws.i contacted manager at bmw who informed me that i would have to contact bmw. I registered a complaint with bmw who came back 3 weeks later denying any coverage. When asked why gentleman could not answer stating he was not a technician. I repeatedly stated from my research that pa adopted california emission law in 1996 and from my understanding it should be replaced by bmw. Once again i was told no coverage and i asked if his 3 weeks of research involved a corporate attorney.he would not answer.it appears that a bmw buyer is given 4 year warranty because after that everything is denied with no explanation as to why.this dmtl pump is a sensor for fuel leaks and could really cause a serious accident if not replaced.i believe pa emission laws understand the hazard and that is why they state it should be replaced.this problem with bmw goes back over 10 years according to internet forums..i cannot understand why they have not been held accountable and made to correct this hazardous situation.

Engine turned off on interstate 40 near greensboro, north carolina. Fortunate to be able to pull onto shoulder. Traveling close to 60mph.started right back up. This is third occurrence in past two months. Never a problem prior; almost two years of ownership. Very scary and dangerous. Please advise on if this is more common than the 40-60 cases i've read about online. What seems to be issue?

For nearly the entire time i have owned the vehicle i have had issues with the car jerking and lurching while accelerating in the lower rpm ranges.of late this has become so bad i am afraid to drive the vehicle.the problem manifests itself mostly between 1,800 and 2,400 rpm with the most severe issues in the 2,200 to 2,400 rpm range.when going from a stop the car will begin to accelerate and when it gets just above 2,000 rpm it begins to jerk and lurch with the tachometer fluctuating wildly.the 4x4 light then comes on and the car completely loses acceleration.this has happened many times while in the middle of a busy intersection.i have been nearly t-boned twice and now fear for my life driving this car.

I have brought my vehicle to bloomfield nj dealership on several occasions in 2013, 2014, 2015 due to vehicles inability to shift gears swiftly, rmp going to 34,000 and transmission not shifting gears.i drive about 6,000miles per year sometimes less.all dealer would say "vehicle performs as designed"....or "unable to duplicate the problem".around june 20, 2016 when in the driveway i put gear in reverse but vehicle would not move. I called bmw dealer describing the inability of my car moving in reverse dealer representative stated its transmission failure.the vehicle was towed totra-par transmissions in belleville nj on june 23, 2016 confirmed transmission failure andreplaced it june 27, 2016 for$ 3, 092.19 !!!come to find out through reading copies of receipts dealer had not described issues as there were on their work orders!after i read most of them, they don't even mention the true reason why the vehicle was brought in !i'm very disgusted with them and i find bmw dealer stalling tactics and deception criminal.

Last week dash 4x4 light comes on a,udible rapid clicking sound comes from rearjust after car is turned off...i brought the vehicle to west paterson motorsin woodland park, njfor diagnostics. Mechanic states computer codes indicate it's transfer case failure, and to replace it costs over $ 2,600.00 !how does the vehicle such as bmw gets away with such poor quality, parts that fail so soon, so expensive? how is this possible? please recall transfer case please, this vehicle does not even have 85,000 miles on odometer yet ...

This vehicle is a bmw x3 3.0si.when the vehicle is in first gear, there is a severe hesitation in the transmission.when you try to accelerate, the transmission "thinks" about what gear it should be in.the vehicle hesitates, stalls slightly, and creeps along slowly before second gear catches.the rpms are erratic when accelerating.very unpredictable when trying to accelerate.the hesitation is the main issue, especially when trying to pull out of an intersection across traffic. It can become a very scary situation when you want to accelerate and nothing happens. This is an ongoing problem.nothing in particular causes it to happen besides regular acceleration.the problem is intermittent and may disappear while driving.however, it will appear again for no real reason.a software update was performed in mid-july.the problem was still noticeable.on august 3rd, the vehicle was once again brought in for service work.the service manager came along for the drive and noticed the transmission problem.another 2008 bmw x3 that was on the lot was driven under the same driving conditions. The same issues with the transmission were noted.he told me that they will contact bmw to see if there are any service bulletins on how to correct the problem, but was unaware of any fix currently available.after two service calls the problem still persists without any fix as of yet.

Own a 2008 bmw x3 3.0 si awd.we had an engine cranking issue and took to vehicle to dealer to have tsb service bulletin number : sib-12-17-07/nhtsa item number : 10028464 performed.since this was performed, there is very poor throttle response in the normal transmission mode.the transmission will stall to engage with very erratic and hard up and down shifts.the concern is with the delay in throttle response when pulling into traffic, when you give it throttle, it is delayed to respond, presenting a true safety concern.the vehicle has been back to the dealer 2 to 3 times since with no resolution.bmw north america was contacted and they simply referred me back to the dealer.spoke with the dealer this week and there is still no resolution as they say they are still waiting on new computer programming; however, they have 3 other x3s in this dealership with the same concern.my fear is that when my wife is pulling into traffic that the vehicle will be delayed in throttle response and a crash may result.bmw has an issue with this in looking at the bimmerfest.com blog as there are numerous complaints of the same issue on this site.

My bmw x3 2008 was 'bought back' by bmw after three months of ownership in dec 2008 due to a problem with the transmission. The transmission would not respond when depressing the accelerator at random times. It happened once after pulling away from an ezpass booth - the car just froze and would not accelerate nearly causing an accident.this was so serious that bmw recognized it as a problem but could not fix it despite replacing major transmission parts. They assured me it was not a general problem in x3's so i allowed them to replace the 2008 x3 with a 2009 model. Less than 1000 miles and one month later the 2009 started exhibiting the same problems. This time bmw would not remedy the situation instead denying there was a problem with the car. The matter is currently with mylemon law lawyers and bmw. Here is a link to a blog that shows many bmw x3 owners have the problem - some have had their cars replaced by bmw and others have been ignored. This is a serious safety issue that is being ignored by the manufacturer (similar to the toyota issue). Please investigate before someone gets killed.http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=262130.

The seat belt sensor warning light and alarm would indicate that the seat belts are not worn by driver and / or passenger when the temperature inside the vehicle is 90 degrees fahrenheit or more.

Passenger seat alarm would activate for no apparent reason on a daily use.under warranty seat pad was replaced.reported same seat malfunction one month after warranty ran out and bmw agreed to pay for seat pad and i would have to pay for labor of $300.00.at this time seat no longer sounding alarm.seat alarm would malfunction again the entire hot weather season of 2013.after contacting bmwin dec of 2013 i was toldno coverage. After researching internet i discovered this to be a regular complaint since 2003 when 1st x3 was manufactured.i discovered last week that as long as this pad is not functioning properly the air bag may not work in an accident.this a very serious driving situation that could result in serious injury.bmw needs to be held accountable and made to address this safety hazard immediately.

While driving my 2008 bmw x3, the driver side heated seat was turned on, than shorted out, burned through the protective layers, a stinky smoke created, melted my leather seat, and partially burned my jeans and leg.due to the year and miles on the vehicle, bmw would not fix any of the parts.

While driving my 2008 bmw x3, the driver side heated seat was turned on, than shorted out, burned through the protective layers, a stinky smoke created, melted my leather seat, and partially burned my jeans and leg.due to the year and miles on the vehicle, bmw would not fix any of the parts.

I left my car parked on the corner of elmhurst avenue and ithaca street in elmhurst, queens ny. Another car by the license plate of [xxx]a volkswagen was parked literally on my car. There was a clear impact and the car was left literally touching the back of my car. I have plenty of pictures as evidence.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My bmw x3 2008 57,000 miles.engine vibration at idle speed, find out all 4 boltengine suspension on the passenger side broken.

I was informed by an independent bmw repair shop that the rear springs were broken. A subsequent visit to a bmw dealer confirmed this. I was also informed by both the independent shop and the dealer that this was a common problem with 3 series bmws.bmw of north america told me that this was not an item that would be covered under their cpo warranty or any other warranty. I would think that broken springs would affect handling and therefore constitute a safety hazard. Both the dealer and independent shop strongly recommended that i have them replaced as soon as possible.

I was driving my vehicle when all four tires indicated a major malfunction of tire pressure warning.i immediately went to my local authorized dealer where it was discovered that all 4 tires needed to be replaced, the 2nd time in 2 years, because of interior deterioration from within the tire walls.it was explained to me that the nitrogen used to fill the tires, that are run flats, causes this.the cost to replace each tire was $274.01.mind you this is the second time in 2 years and the dealer and tire manufacturer refuse to rectify this issue as well as make good on any warranties that are still in affect.

I tried to complain to bmw corporation for selling a lemon car . Please let me know who i can complain about this car. Right now it only has 57k miles on it and i am being told it needs more work.

Takata recall - i called east bay bmw and bmw of concord dealerships since receiving safety recall in june 2017 to make an appointment for the airbag recall service and i haven't received a call back regarding the parts arriving to the dealership. It is not november and i still haven't received a single phone call.

Recall notification was received in nov 2017.dealer has yet to repair.is this length of delay acceptable?
