I have been having issues with my x3 every since i've had it i am convinced that my vehicle is a lemon. Now my airbags have had a recall on them for almost 7 months and no one has contacted me on fixing them when i call i get the run around. I got into an accident and the airbags didn't even deploy, i could have been killed . I am seeking legal help. I want a replacement vehicleor i am going to court and they can have this piece of crap back. Now i haven't been driving my car for the pass couple of months because they claim that my airbags can deploy at anytime with metal fragments that can kill me, and possibly kill my daughter if she is in the car with me.this was our only means of transportation, and it is hard trying to find rides to and from work. I dont see why they cant replace my vehicle.i pay them every month for a vehicle i'm not even driving.

My vehicle is under two recalls:17v60517v683as recommended, i took my vehicle in to the bmw dealer for the recalls.the dealer returned the vehicle to me stating that the remedy for the recall was not yet available.since that time, i continue to receive recall notices from bmw for the same recall numbers.your database shows that for both recalls:"recall incomplete/remedy not yet available".i do not understand why the "remedy" is "not yet available".can you tell me when bmw projects a "remedy" to be available to correct both recalls?it seems like the technical resolution of these issues would be fairly straightforward, albeit somewhat expensive, for bmw to process.thank you- [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'*pm

Takata recallfor over a month (since may 18th) i have had multiple conversations with bmw north america customer service and west german bmw in fort washington, pa about this recall.i do not feel safe having my wife and 20 month old daughter in this (my wife's) vehicle.everyone is telling me the vehicle "should be safe" but nobody will put that in writing, so i have requested a loaner or rental car.i keep getting bounced around to different people and nobody is taking this seriously and getting me a safe vehicle for my wife. I would like her x3 fixed per the recall, or if the part remains unavailable to be put into a safe loaner or rental immediately.

Takata recall.i was informed by bmw usa that the interim repair is the same parts that are currently being used in the vehicle and that due to the new (same) parts not having been exposed to atmospheric elements thereby "reduces the risk."the complaint i have is that the risk should be eliminated by correctly repairing the issue, not to just "reduce the risk." the solution i am seeking is to have the vehicle repaired to eliminate the risk, not just reduce it.

Our bmw x3 currently has a little under 60,000 miles on it. Back in april we began having a signal on our dash display indicating the passenger seat was unoccupied when in fact my wife was sitting there. She could move around a bit and it would go out. Over time the light has defaulted to always on. We called the local dealer who told us that the repair even though it is for a significant safety feature would cast about $1000.00, which is totally unacceptable. This is a major safety feature that has now become a liability. Bmw has had a recall on prior models for the same problem but i assume now it is not considered significant. This should be mandatory safety recall event and any influence the nhtsa may have on the safety of passengers in this car would be appropriate in my opinion. Thanks for your time letting me vent. I hope that you see fit to look into this problem.
Bmw says they have on ship date on airbags and nothing is being rushed or done now' this was recalled in feb and i am not getting any info from them on status. The dealerships say bmw is in no rush to fix the issue'. I have called many dealers and the main company complaint number' please help.
I have not receive the recall letter to take my car to the dealer for the replacement of the airbag.
Recall campaign #16v-071 initiated in march 2016 still not addressed and it is now november 2016.
Takata recall -my vehicle has a recall and no one has a remedy for it.not the dealer, manufacturer or takata.the issue is that i need my car and the front seat passenger airbag sensor is not working properly.i have received documentation from takata and bmw that there currently is no remedy.my question is since i am still driving my car, if i were in an accident, is the liability of my passenger my responsibility?i cannot let the car sit parked until a remedy is available as this would ruin the cars engine.bmw and takata have no remedy and have given no eta when one would become available. Bmw will not give me a loaner until this remedy is fixed.so for now i am without a car, which is unfair as i still have to pay for insurance and registration.
Recall was issued feb 2016 and notice sent by bmw march 2016; never received another notification from them that parts were available and only found out "interim" parts were available by proactively searching; september 2016 and still only "interim" parts available and not a complete fix??this is the air bag - major safety concern that it has not been a priority to fix on the part of bmw.

I purchased a 2007 bmw x3 on 7/10/14 from a dealer.at the time of purchase the airbag warning light on the dashboard was illuminated.the dealer indicated they tried to fix the issue by replacing the passenger seat sensor mat, the airbag itself and the seatbelt buckle.nothing they did fixed the issue or cleared the light.the dealer had indicated that this vehicle had an airbag recall associated with it and i would be getting a letter from bmw in august.this letter would allow me to get this issue fixed by a bmw dealer.i called my local bmw dealer, he looked up my vin and indicated there was no recall associated with my make, model, year and any further evaluation would be at my cost? was it legal for the dealer to sell me the vehicle with this defect?who is now responsible to bear the cost of further investigation? me or the dealer?what recourse do i have?
I was traveling down a 3 lane highway behind a cube van going slowly.as i moved in to the next lane to go around him, i saw there was a pre-existing multi-car accident that had just occurred in that lane right in front of me. I immediately slammed on my brakes to avoid adding to the mess.i was able to stop in time.i had zero contact with any vehicle or object.as i slammed on my brakes, my front drivers side airbag and 2 of my side airbags inadvertently deployed. The front drivers airbag cracked the top of the windshield. Pictures were taken of all the vehicles involved at the scene, including mine. My car would not start, so it had to be pushed off the roadway and towed to my home.the next day, my insurance company allstate sent an airbag expert to my home to investigate the situation ([xxx]) and to make a determination as to whether there had been a collision.she took her own pictures, which have been obtained and will be provided to nhtsa.she confirmed and reported that no contact had been made by my vehicle with any other object or vehicle.there was no damage. There was no collision.although i have full coverage, allstate has not opened a collision claim on this vehicle.i have no car, no rental car because there was no collision. The car was towed to bmw of annapolis 410-349-9312.the analysis is being handled by a tech named [xxx]. He was unable to make an accurate assessment yesterday, so bmw corporate hq in nj has taken over, [xxx].they determine if there is a manufacturers defect, i will not be able to get a car.now, my mom is struggling to get to work (at nhtsa) and i have to take her car to get to my brand new job of two days.i have a defective airbag situation. I hope nhtsa can help me prove that i have a defect. Takata recall. Received a recall notice from bmw.local dealer (bmw of spokane 509-458-3288) said just drive it with no repair options. Called bmw customer relations at 1-800-525-7417, was advised just to drive it. Concerned the recall is so large that repairs willnot be within any reasonable timeframe. Also concerned the manufacturerand local dealer are not taking the dot safety recall seriously.
A warning code is triggered that affects the operation of the airbag.the warning code is passenger seat occupancy sensor.the airbag light in the dash flashes on and off randomly whether there is someone in the seat or not.it does not matter whether the passenger side seat belt is fastened or not.bmw has a recall for earlier years of this same problem on this vehicle, but not for this year which also has quite a few of these failures.obviously they have not fixed this problem and need to recall all vehicles with similar occupancy seat sensors that affect the airbag.
Safety recall 16v-071 still not repaired.bmw told me they repaired all other models so far but dont know when they are going to get the parts for the x3 models. I have been waiting since march 2016. It is now october 2016, plus i am in florida which makes this repair a priority according to bmw because the damage happens faster in warmer climates.

Turned on heated seat on driver's side. After approximately 2 minutes, felt burning on left side of seat. Turned off the heated seat, turned on the light and the seat was smoking substantially. A small hole was burned through the leather seat (about the size of a dime) and through my pants. I have a small red mark on the top of the back of my leg. The vehicle smells like smoke. Luckily, i was in the driveway when this happened or an accident might have occurred. Very concerning and will likely be a costly repair. Have noted several other similar incidents repoted on-line.
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3 sav. After a seat warmer was activated, the heat generated became so intense that it burned a hole in the seat, as well as the contact's jacket and jeans. There were no injuries. The contact was altered to the failure due to a burning odor. The failure occurred without warning. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the failure was caused by a faulty heating element and the seat would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Themanufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

I had car heating system on and felt some thing very hot under my thigh. I got down to inspect and found a hole in the car seat. I put off the heating system to reach home safely. I have sent pictures and my complaint to bmw ag and bmw usa.
Experiencing recurrent electrical issues including multiple episodes of complete loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking while driving at 15-25 mph.thisincludes an episode of the vehicle's engine cutting off without warning during a turn on a busy street resultingin immediate loss of power steering and brakes, nearly resulting in a head-on collision.vehicle will restart immediately and without difficulty after incident occurs.vehicle has also experienced multiple episodes of a battery drawing down voltage and non-start in the morning despite a new and fully charged battery.battery has been replaced and problem persisted.software was updated yet problem continues to persist.no issues found by mechanic.
While driving this morning the drivers side heated seat was in use since it was cold outside. I began to smell the oder of something burning and myleft leg felt extremely warm. Not knowing what was burning i turned off my heated seat and my passengers seat which was occupied. I also turned off the vehicle heater and defrosters. Upon arrival at my destination i found that the drivers seat had two burn marks just above the electric seat controls where my leg was as i was positioned while driving.
Bmw x3 heated seat burned hole through seat. If heated seat is turned on, visible sparks or fire will come through hole. Hole is directly below driver's left thigh. Bmw has issued a recall for other models, but not the x3. The x3 is susceptible to the same issue.
Driving vehicle noticed a burning smell, at first thought it was coming from outside of car, then while in heavy traffic and unable to pull over felt a burning pain on thigh. Immediately turned off seat warmer and tried to pull over. Found that drivers side seat warmer had burnt a hole thru the leather seat cover and burned my pants. This could have very easily caused a wreck!
The contact owns a 2008 (na) bmw x3.the contact stated that the brake lights illuminated automatically several times.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for service, but they found no failures.the light illuminated again and the contact was able to reset the system by turning off the vehicle.the light illuminated again and remained lit.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the electrical switch failed.in addition, the brakes failed while driving at an unknown speed.the contact drove onto a curve and crashed into a tree.there were no injuries.the gear shifter failed and stuck to the floor when it was pulled.the transmission is also failing.during acceleration, the vehicle pulls backwards violently and the contact's hands released the steering wheel.the instrument panel indicators also illuminate.a report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that nothing was wrong with the vehicle.the vehicle has not been repaired.the current mileage was 7,300 and the failure mileage was unknown.
23 month old toddler gained access to vehicle keys and locked himself in with the remote key.after several attempts of him trying to open the doors with the door levers, they would not open.we had a lock smith attempt to unlock the doors by pushing the door lock/unlock button located on the upper center console, but this also didn't unlock the doors.the driver side door finally opened after pushing the center lock/unlock button and then pulling on the door lever two times to actually be able to unlock and open the driver door.this entry system requires the use of electrics prior to the mechanical system becoming active. This situation could be very dangerous during high temperature days if a person is locked inside and dangerous in the event of an escape if the electric system fails with the doors in the locked position.
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3. When the vehicle was warming up, the contact stepped away for a few minutes. Upon returning, the interior was filled with smoke. The contact noticed that the front driver seat was burning. The contact turned the engine off and waited for the seat to cool down. The contact drove the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electric wiring for the seat failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
Bmw x3 needs new computer system due to water damage allegedly emanating from a clogged drain in the sunroof.new computer costs appx $2,000.dealer and bmw say the drain can't be seen or accessed by owner and it isn't cleaned as part of any servicing.clear design flaw.i know of others who have had the same situation and bmws response is to try and file an insurance claim.
In cool climate on november 1, 2016. Turn on my heat seat, then i smelled something burned, then i felt sharp burn on left butt cheek. Then i knew something wrong with heat i turned off, ,on november7, 2016, i tried again,,, burning smell is so bad, the heat still burned almostthrough out side layer of seat
While driving smelled something burning and also realized my upper leg was in pain. Turned off the seat warmer and investigated after reaching my destination. There was a scorch mark in the seat near the bottom left bolster. Lucky this didn't cause a fire or bodily injury.
Due to cold weather, engaged the driver side seat heater.noticed a sharp pain in my leg and then began to smell and see smoke.fortuneatly, i was quickly able to realize the seat heater appeared to have a short in it, and turned off before burning through the leather and setting my cloths on fire.i will be contacting my local bmw dealership to see what, if anything they are will to do.i feel there should be a recall before someone is seriuosly hurt or killed.the engine was idling when seat heater was on.i was backing out of driveway and driving down street when i noticed.if i would have had seat heater on and then stepped away from vehicle as it was warmimg up, i am confident the driver seat would have caught on fire or at least severly damaged it.
My 2007 bmw x3's driver side seat heater overheated while i was driving and burnt my thigh. I reacted to the burn and almost ran off the road. When i stopped i found a black burned spot on my seat. From my research it seems this has been a common problem with this model. I think the company should have to fix this problem before someone is hurt badly.
Driver's side seat heater has malfunctioned and has burnt the leather and caused discomfort while driving.heavy burnt smell in the cabin resulted from using the seat heater.
The car is equipped with seat heaters. One of the heating elements failed, overheated and burned through the seat surface. In doing research, this appears to be a problem with the vehicles.bmw did do a recall on the x5, but does not show a recall on the x3. On various sites, this issue has occurred many times with owners, some with the vehicle catching on fire.i found complaints on the following sites; carcomplaints.com, bimmerfest.com and arfc.org.just on carcomplaints, this complaint is shown 23 times; madbury, nh, portland, or, westfield, in, derwood, md, tampa, fl, annapolis, md, louisville, ky, bergenfield, nj, holderness, nh, liberty township, oh, laurel, md, novi, mi, cromwell, ct, prairie village, ks, hillsborough, nc, daly city, ca, alexandria, va, saginaw, tx, bethesda. Md, pittsburg, pa, selah, wa.same issue with each.bmw of north america was contacted and their response was "it's a part of wear and tear....no offer to assist" from bmw na. Yet, the issue has continued to arise and bmw na did replace the heater element and seat surface in some instances, making the replacement a matter of preference or discrimination, or dealer's opinion of the car owner versus correcting the manufacturing/design defect problem. I would request the assistance of nhtsa to review this matter and protect the public from hazardous over-heating/ fire threats.i was fortunate to have been just getting into the vehicle and smell the burning leather and turned off the seat heating system before a fire could occur.
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3. The contact stated that the battery and battery cables failed. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was advised that the battery cable connecters needed to be replaced. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage and current mileages were unknown.
After multiple attempts to remedy the situation, bmw has been unable to resolve the transmission and the intermittent loss of power and most recently "limp-home" mode occurrence associated with the drivetrain on the 2007 bmw x3.the symptoms 1st presented itself as a loss of power from a start.upon pressing the accelerator, the vehicle did not respond and then responded with a surge or lurching forward.this makes for unpredictable and dangerously erratic vehicle performance.after multiple visits (+4) and multiple complaints along with the sound of gear or differential noise, the dealership finally did some type of ecu update that appeared to resolve the problem.the noise never subsided and recently the car was inoperable forcing a tow after upon pressing the accelerator the vehicle went into transmission limp-mode.as usual, the symptoms "can't be duplicated" once codes are cleared yet the ecu is throwing multiple codes for transmission limp-mode and code 56be for clutch gears 2 and 6.i believe that this is a very dangerous situation to either press the accelerator and for it to be non-responsive then have a delayed vehicle surge not proportional to the input and timing of the accelerator depression and/or press the accelerator and experience significantly curtailed vehicle power due to the "limp-home" condition.this has been a recurring issue since the purchase of the vehicle on 5/31/2009.
I purchased the vehicle on february 07, 2014 and while driving home from work my vehicle started jerking. It would jerk really hard and when you would try to stop by pressing on the brake the vehicle would jerk harder as if it is about to break down. The second time was in april, i believe the 5th i was having the same problem and then several warning lights came on. I called the dealership and brought the car in. As soon as the service advisor checked on the vehicle she said the car is not drivable and how it is unsafe to drive. There was another problem with the vehicle. I brought the vehicle in may for an oil change but when i was driving the vehicle towards the end of june it said i was really low on oil. I went to turn the vehicle in and it would not start.

While driving on interstate 72 in illinois, we noted a low coolant level light. Checked the owner's manual, and it stated that this was not a major issue, but we should check it at the next opportunity. Coincidentally, the other party we were traveling with asked if we wanted to stop for coffee at a location 1.5 miles off the interstate. When we stopped, the low coolant light went off. Before getting back on the road, noticed that coolant was dripping from the front right side of the engine. A repair facility was nearby, and they investigated the leak and determined that it was emanating from a crack in the water pump. Also determined that the cause of the crack was the engine sagging. Further investigation determined that a lower engine mounting bolt was missing entirely. This was replaced along with the water pump, when the engine was jacked back into proper position. At this point it was discovered that the upper mounting bolts had sheared off inside the engine. This is a serious issue. We were one mounting bolt away from the engine sagging excessively, likely causing drive train seizure.
All four engine mounting bolts are sheared and completely broken. The vehicle was not in any kind of accident and no other issues i.e. Engine taken out and reusage of bolts, etc. The engine was sitting on the surrounding chassis. This caused the engine head to crack and oil leaking onto the exhaust
I have a 2007bmw x3 with both rear spring brokennever have i seen this and also all four engine mount bolts are snapped. I'm the only one that drives it, so i know nothing traumatic has happened to it.
When i pulled the cover plate off leading to the engine mount on the bottom right side of the engine, a sheared bolt fell out. As i search to where it came from i noticed it was one of the four bolts holding the engine mount to the engine. One thing to mention about the bolt is that is made of aluminum. It seems completely inadequate for a high stress area like an engine mount. I cannot tell you when exactly the bolt failed, likely in motion at some point between 70k and 80k miles.
Right front motor mount bracket bolts sheared off.3 of the 4 bolts were sheared off, and if the 4th had sheared before we got it to the repair shop this would have caused significant damage.if it had happened while driving this would have absolutely caused an accident.
2007 x3 3.0si 76000 miles. While performing an oil change, user noticed oil drain plug not aligned with opening in stiffening plate. Removed plate and m12 bolt fell out. Upon inspection, all passenger side engine mount bolts have been sheared off or fallen out. This vehicle has never been in an accident and is driven conservatively. Researched on-line and found that this is not an isolated incident. Prolonged vehicle use with sheared engine mounting bolts could cause drive-line failures potentially resulting in accident, injury, and/or death.
Engine mount bolts sheared off at the head causing engine to fall onto subframe.
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, there was a severe vibration felt without warning. The contact noticed that one of the engine mount bolts was sheared. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who informed that three of the four engine mount bolts were sheared. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they offered to provide a further investigation related to the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
6 out of 8 of my motor mount bolts were sheared or broken in half.this is a common bmw problem with the n52b series bmw engines and bmw does not take any ownership of this obvious design or manufacturing flaw.this causes a very unsafe driving dynamic in that the engine is no longer held securely in place.
I was driving on the interstate, exiting an off ramp, decelerating in speed when the engine died, the car stalled and i lost power steering. This very same thing happened 5 weeks prior while i was on the interstate traveling 60 mph.
3 out of 4 engine mount bolts sheared off while driving. This caused the engine to drop 2 inches and damage the cooling system. If the engine had dropped further it would likely have caused a more catastrophic failure and accident.
I recieved a recall for pvc valve heater last year dec 2017 until now april 20 2018 my car is not fix and i get overheat when my car is stuck on traffic.
Low coolant light came on, and bmw dealer found a crack on the water pump.upon further inspection, the engine was noted to be canted, making it impossible to attach the new water pump. It was discovered that the engine mount bolts (total of 4 on one side) had all broken off, causing the engine to tilt. The repair was $2000 and when i called bmw usa, they said that there would be no compensation back to me, and that the broken bolts were secondary to the car having 90,000 miles. Changing bolts is not a normal wear and replacement item, and the car has never been in an accident. Our vehicles are gently driven, and never go off road, so i am mystified how this happened.
My 2007 bmw x3 (e83) front passenger side, "engine mount bracket bolts" snapped while driving vehicle. At least 3 of the 4 aluminum bolts snapped during normal vehicle operation which resulted in my engine resting on the vehicles water pump and eventually causing the water pump to fail. My mechanic noticed the snapped bolts when he attempted to install a new water pump.this is a major safety issue to have half your engine not properly mounted down and should be a factory recall.just think of the damage a front end collision can cost with that part of the engine able to move freely. On the micro side it cost me a water pump.however it could have done more damage.please recall this!!!numerous people online are reporting the same failure.it's a very dangerous and life threatening malfunction that could be avoided by bmw.the problem is galvanized corrosion between the different metals over time. The bolts are aluminum, and the engine mounts are magnesium-aluminum mix.i believe it is the magnesium that is causing the failure.there are a couple of fixes. 1-easy fix would be to take steel bolts and coat them with aluminum (the aluminum will slow corrosion and the steel will strengthen the bolt without giving way to galvanized corrosion).2-other fix would be to make the bolts of the exact same mixture as the engine block (magnesium and aluminum) not just aluminum. The bolts still wont be as strong as the steel (aluminum) coated bolts.
Driving with 85000 miles on it and it just jumps when you push the gas. Hops like a bunny. Then it takes off like a race car...which is dangerous if a car is in front of my and i slam into them. This problem has came and went over weeks now. Had codes checked. There are no vaccum leaks or anything. I am not the only one having issues with this. Its dangerous and unacceptable of bmw.
4 motor mount bolts were sheered.took to dealership due to coolant leak and found that engine had become unmounted and was sitting on water pump that was cracked and causing the leak.i had noticed vibration but was not sure what it was. Over $2000 repair bill. This seems to be a common problem with this model bmw.
"takata recall" while driving knock sensor kept tripping on the check engine light had it replaced knock sensor kept tripping the check engine light after mechanics check more into it all four engine mount bolts were snapped off engine was pretty much rest against the exhaust they were the factory bolts made of aluminum.
Sheared engine bolts, motor mounts! never have seen this before...heard this has been happening to other x3 drivers. How can this well known vehicle manufacturer can let something like this happen. I have two kids, and lucky i caught the problem before something worst happened.
While inspecting for an oil leak under the vehicle, a bolt fell off of the side of the engine.inspecting the bolt, it was sheared off.inspecting the underside of the engine, it was found the bolt came from the passenger side engine mount where the mount bolts to the block. At the same time, it was found a second bolt had also sheared off with a portion of both bolts still in the engine block.the two other bolts of the engine mount were/are still in place. Evidence of corrosion was found around the bolt holes of the missing bolts and around the lower bolt that is still in place.investigating on the internet revealed other owners reporting similar incidents, including those causing substantial damage when the vehicle was in motion when the failure occurred. See the following links:http://recallbmwmotormountbolts.blogspot.com/ http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.ef15778/4161.
Bmw x3 is extremely dangerous to drive it will not accelerate slowly . It hesitates in acceleration from a stop, on hills, on corners and then takes off very rapidly. The dealership in seattle has worked on it three times and reports that they cannot fix it, they are aware of it but no fix is available. Bmw in fife refused to even try to fix it because it cannot be repaired. Someone is going to get killed because of this defect.
My 2007 bmw x3 has broken down twice. The fuel sensor monitor has failed. I have less than 9,000 miles on the car. I do not want the vehicle any longer. I do not feel safe. The last time it broke down was on a draw bridge, there was no power!
Since purchase of my 2007 bmw x3 in nov 2006 theengine hesitated periodically when iaccellerating. I have takentires to the bmw service center, who drove the car and agreed their was a problem. I was told that there were many cars within a certain lot of vin numbers , who have the same problem and my vin number falls within this lot. I was also told at this time, bmw has been notified, but they do not know how to fix the problem. When this problem occurs, the car hesitates in the middle of the street and then surges forward. This is a periodic occurance. It appears that the engine gets the fuel but then does not know what to do with it. Bmw service said they would keep in contact with me about fixing this problem but i have not heard from them in over one month. I left another message last week and have not had a return call. Do you have any information about this issue? thank you.
I was driving on an interstate highway going about 65mph when theengine started cutting off and on and theeml warning indicator light came on. My car did completely cut off and fortunately i was able to get over to the right shoulder of the interstate. I waited for a few minutes and the car restarted. I called my husband and he met me at my planned destination an hour later. We took the car to the nearest bmw dealership. On the way it cut off again. We finally made it and had the service department run a diagnostic analysis. It showed a malfunction with the eccentric shaft sensor, which basically deals with throttle control. The total cost for replacement was quoted at $1,707.08. The vehicle (a bmw x3 ) has 92,538 miles on it. This was a very dangerous situation and expensive to repair. I want this on record in case other bmw owners have had a similar problem.
There is a delay in throttle response through the 1-2, 2-3 upshift when accelerating from a stop; there is a lack of power or hesitation when reapplying throttle, during either a 4-3 or 3-2 tip-in downshift. This may occur after slowing and coming to a stop on a hill and then continuing into a turn; harsh downshifts when slowing on a roadway with hills; downshifts become violent.bmw dealer has looked at vehicle twice for same concern but seems to be getting worse.this all happens under light acceleration.the vehicle has almost stalled 3 times in the last 2 days, once making a left turn with oncoming traffic at an intersection with no light, and the other two times while entering a roundabout.bmw na says see a dealer and the dealer does nothing.
I was driving on the interstate, exiting an off ramp, decelerating in speed when the engine died, the car stalled and i lost power steering. This very same thing happened 5 weeks prior while i was on the interstate traveling 60 mph.
Severe acceleration and deceleration issues with transmission on 2007 bmw e83 x3. Once the engine has reached normal operating temperature, transmission issues are more noticeable. My vehicle does not respond immediately to throttle input when starting from a dead stop. Several hesitative jerks are felt and then the vehicle accelerates very slowly. Often times during this sequence, the exhaust emits a huge plume of smoke, blinding drivers behind the vehicle. Upon deceleration, my vehicle may downshift harshly, generating a forward surge of acceleration because the transmission fails to match engine revs with the lower gear; i have only experienced this particular characteristic at low speeds (<20 mph). Also while decelerating, my vehicle may lose power, which results in a loss of power steering, making the vehicle very difficult to turn. I have not been able to determine a deceleration rate that "triggers" this behavior. I am a test engineer and a performance driving instructor with bmw cca. I have regularly driven bmws over the past decade and have never experienced this issue with any other models that i have driven (e46, e39, e63). I also have limited racing experience in e30 bmws. I.e. I know how an engine/transmission is suppose to accelerate and decelerate under a wide variety of conditions. These acceleration/deceleration issues are very concerning to me.
Over a year ago i began hearing loud noises underneath my 2007 bmw x3.i have had it serviced four times for the following:loud popping from underneath especially with slow driving (5mph ), problems with jerking with acceleration, & a significant rattlingand or shaking from under the car between 35-45 mph. The first two times it was taken to the dealership they claimed to hear nothing.the 3rd time they told me the tires were to blame.wherein they further told me that if it was transmission issues ( i told them each time it was taken in we thought it was a faulty transmission) then they would not be responsible because the tires were causing an issue with the transfer casing. The fourth time was the same as before with still no resolution.
Transmission shudders in second and third gear around 2000 rpm uphill. The shudder gets worse and worse as miles add up. They have had the car two weeks this time and still not fixed.
The vehicle hesitates when starting from a stop despite pressing the accelerator pedal.the hesitation ranges from 1-3 seconds before the vehicle accelerates.the hesitation is often accompanied by the dynamic traction control activation light illuminating.this is particularly troubling when accelerating through an intersection or making a turn from a stop through an intersection.i do not feel safe letting my family drive the vehicle with this problem.
The transmission on our 2007 model year is a 6 speed automatic transmission.there has been gradual increase in upshift kick and downshift kick affecting the accelerator foot pedal feeling. At times it feels like the vehicle is ready to move from a dead stop, this is specially concerning on stop and go traffic where the transmission is constantly upshifting and downshifting in low gears. The downshift kick is more prevalent in the lower gears 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st.the upshift kick is more prevalent in 2nd to 3rd. A sense of concern has creeped up on my wife every time she drives the vehicle with no sense of security as she tries to make left turns or in slow stop and go traffic that the transmission will not react and be involved in an accident.
Transmission continues to hesitate @ low gears, especially at initial accelerations while stopped @ a stop sign or signal light.automatic transmission hesitates, car jolts trying to find the right gear. The car then jumps into a higher gear and dangerously accelerates rapidly.in addition, when driving on a steep downhill decline, the car adjusts well; however, when transitioning to a level surface street after a steep downhill, the gear will not shift into the appropriate gear (i.e., was stuck in previous gear). On 6/14/2010, took car to dealer. They "performed bmw diagnosis control unit function, there is no fault record in control unit, and at test drive i9 could not duplicate customer complaint at this time." no fix was provided.after years of minor jolts when accelerating (i believe in 1st and 2nd) & then a rapid kick acceleration to 3rd, no major incidents have occurred but safety on road has been compromised. I have learned to ease into accelerations with this car and do not allow anyone to drive this car because of unexpected hesitations/accel.on 1/14/2012, i had a close call entering an intersection after i was stopped at a light. As i proceeded into the intersection to turn left, the car hesitated & stalled in middle of intersection, then jerked forward and yellow transmission light came on. I parked on the side of the road, put it in "p" & turned engine off. Turned it back on and tranny light remained on and car would not accelerate in "d"; however, it would allow me to "reverse." it took three attempts (on/off engine) and the car went into "d" with hesitation. I attempted to drive home and car stalled at the next light. Was stuck in middle of road for 2 minutes trying to get it in gear. "d" finally worked. I parked in a lot, turned engine off for 15 minutes. Car has been working ok rest of day but it is not safe! this is seriously dangerous!!!!!

In acceleration the car will hang and hesitate, and lunge. In a slow down situation the car will violent lerch from one gear to the next, and can not things out of the seats.
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3. The contact stated that while driving various speeds and attempting to engage the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would hesitate and then lunge forward abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 64,000.
2007 bmw x3.the six speed automatic transmission shifts poorly at slow speeds going up hills.vehicle will lunge forward after down shifting to too low of a gear and over rev before up shifting.the gear selection seems inappropriate when going slow speeds.the vehicle has been to the dealer twice to address these problems; however, the present software fix did not rectify the problem.
2007 bmw x3 (build date 09/06) transmission problem, potentially very dangerous (deadly).vehicle surges, lags, hesitates, can't find gear, red lines, fails to respond to accelerator.first three service department visits, no attempt was made to repair.4th visit = software upgrade.problem not fixed.
We had a new 2007 bmw x3 that had horrible transmission problems.it was very scary - the car would hesitate when you wanted it to accelerate, it would seem to lose power at times - a real disaster and safety concern.bmw was totally unresponsive - told us all sorts of nonsense about us not knowing how to drive.initially they kept the car for a month claiming they needed software.then they replaced the transmission.that still didn't fix the car.we sent the car back for service again, and after another month they said they couldn't fix it.finally, after jerking us around for a long time, they agreed to swap the car out for a 2008, but even then, the way it was handled was abominable.the whole time we were dealing with bmw, they kept acting like they had never heard of the problems we were having, yet a simple search of the internet revealed the many many complaints that are exactly the same.obviously, bmw is trying to avoid a recall.
Slowing down to take a left hand turn at a traffic light, once the coast is clear, pressed accelerator to turn and the vehicle "hesitates" and does not react to the input. Traffic is now oncoming and vehicle still not moving, finally it starts to go. Barely get across the lane before the oncoming traffic is in the spot we just left.vehicle does not shift smoothly; it has a jerky motion between 1,2 and 3rd gears. Often times when slowing down it down shifts harshly, searching for the correct gear. In the morning when first started and driven down the street to the stop sign, it will lurch forward several times while you are holding your foot on the brake.this vehicle is not safe to drive in it's present condition because the operator does not know whether it will react to input or not. You are forced to cross traffic with extreme caution.
The vehicle has a tremendous lag when u step on the gas....
2007 bmw x3 >surging forward after releasing foot from gas peddle >rpm revving to red line before going into gear on acceleration>rpm going past red line and never into gear in cold temp as if thrown into neutral>bmwna refusing to repair stating can't duplicate although they admit there is a problem and have offered new software as of oct 07 which did not work. >80 people across the nation just on one web site with exact same car, exact same problem, have exact same responses from dealers and bmw na.
This is related to the transmission. 1)there is a delay in throttle response through the 1-2 upshift when accelerating from a stop.2)there is a lack of power or hesitation when reapplying throttle, during either a 4-3 or 3-2 tip-in downshift. This may occur after slowing with a closed throttle.3)harsh downshifts when slowing on a roadway with a rising gradient.this is a very serious problem as it may cause an accident when trying to merge into traffic, or cause a rear end collision since the vehicle almost stalls at some points upon take off. Life threatening. There have been 4 attempts so far to correct this issue by the dealer with little success. This was done by reprogramming the computer module that controls shifting. The 2007 model and back do not have this problem. It is specifically automatic transmission.
The transmission on the 2007 bmw x3 has jerkiness and hesitation issues, presenting serious safety concerns.an immediate investigation is warranted.bmw already has attempted to resolve the problem with two software fixes, with mixed results.a third software fix allegedly is on the way.please review the links below so that you can understand how serious and widespread this problem is.http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=255335http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=242429http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.phpt=203584&highlight=transmission+jerk.
The automatic transmission does not appropriately respond to driver input, variously displaying hesitation of up to 3 seconds, abrupt upshifts and downshifts, and occasional stalls. It is so unpredictable that one avoids pulling into traffic, or turning left across incoming traffic. Not an ultimate driving machine. This is a bmw x3 2008 model.
2007 bmw x3 transmission issues. Transmission went into fail safe mode (4th gear) and transmission warning light on dash appeared. Bmw dealer is aware of this malfunction and had a bulletin that recommended a software fix. This is apparently a far reaching malfunction and quite common on this model. The nhtsa should maintain metrics from dealers to see if the fix works because if it doesn't then this catastrophic transmission failure could be quite dangerous to the occupants as well as others on the road.
Transmission on my 07 bmw x3 is not handling properly.i have had it in for service multiple times, and yet again for redlining and stalling.this is extremely dangerous, and i would have never expected this from a bmw.waiting for service dept. To call back with a crazy price that i have to pay to fix this problem now.
Car always hesitated when accelerator was pressed. One day even with the car in "d" it did not move and engine raced. I was in the middle of a busy intersection and unable to move.a gentleman got out of his car and stopped traffic in all directions.i was finally able to move the car by switching between p and d until it caught and the car moved.i narrowly escaped getting hit when the light changed but my car did not move.i had it towed and the dealer installed the upgrade program.
2007 bmw x3 automatic transmission:have been complaining to bmw about this problem since spring of 2007.the vehicle has been in the shop more than a month (total from numerous visits).at a stop light the transmission will occasionally surge & if not for foot firmly on the brake that surge would throw me into the car ahead.it has surged when parking almost ramming me into the side of a building.i almost went through a file cabinet and into the wall in my garage yesterday.hesitates when changing lanes & through intersections.i've almost been hit numerous times.almost rammed from the rear at 70mph on the freeway when transmission hesitated & wouldn't accelerate.the engine will rev and the transmission won't kick in for a few seconds.then the car takes off like a rocket.this vehicle with this particular transmission is dangerous.i've been trying incessantly to get bmw to help me for well over a year.all levels say they will help but it never happens short of a transmission reprogramming which doesn't eliminatethe problem...and they know it.bmw states the "vehicle is operating as designed".what a stunning admission!this is a huge problem and quite easy to verify.service managers admit the problem too...and bmw is saying they designed the vehicle this way???who has to die in an accident before this is taken care of?bmw had a regional tech engineer evaluate my vehicle.he says it's "operating as designed".he also said there are no 'faults'.a service mgr once told me that 'faults' don't always register in the computer so having 'no faults' isn't unusual.by the way, bmw had me take the car in to get reprogrammed shortly "before" that regional tech did his evaluation.yes, they reprogrammed it "then" sent him in!nothing was found?go figure!what could i do?it's a leased vehicle.i couldn't just sell it or take it back to the dealer.why do they refuse to help me when it would cost next to nothing.they love my $$$.
Vehicle hesitates from stop.transmission constantly "hunts" for proper gear.vehicle exhibits loss of power when merging into traffic, or making turns.
Vehicle transmission hesitates to shift from 1st to 2nd, making it dangerous to pull out into traffic. Vehicle also has difficulty shifting into reverse, causing it to roll forward when the brake is released.
On 3 occasions, the transmission on my 2007 bmw x3 3.0si has resulted in near crash situations. The transmission either does not respond (a significant delay) in response to the accelerator or lurches nearly uncontrollably in response to only a slight accelerator depression. I have taken the vehicle to the bmw dealer 3 times with no substantive improvement. Because of the transmission's erratic unpredictability, it really is only a matter of time before it will not respond in a critical situation resulting in a crash.
Transmission won't shift smoothly between the gears.this is a major safety issue.between gear 1 and gear 2.it seems to want to stall at the start.
Faulty transmission. The gearbox will fail to respond at random times usually in critical life threatening situations such as merging into traffic or avoiding other careless drivers. Can't seem to decide what gear to be in when making quick uphill turns. While downshifting in sd the driver may experience down shifts so rough it seems like you have been rear ended by another driver. Cold temperatures seem to always make the shifting issue worse and the vehicle may red line or not shift at a normal rate.
Acceleration hesitation on bwm x3 especially when turning into traffic from stop (0 mph). Unanticipated loss of acceleration while maintaining pressure on gas pedal.
The transmission on the 2007 bmw x3 (gm6 transmission) hesitates in acceleration during drive mode. It has become unsafe to make a fast lane change. I almost got rear-ended today. I live in a mountain top community so driving down hill the down shift inmanual (steptronic) 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd pretty much allows the car to lung forward as if in neutral. In relying on the transmission to safely slow the car it practically forces you into the rear of another car or does not allow me to safe slow the car without having to use hard breaking. My car has been in the shop 5 times now. I am being told "this is just the way it is" i spent 6 hours with the bmw regional engineer test driving and doing software modifications. We compared this to a 2008 model. Any x3 with the same transmission is going to have the same issue.
Bmw x3savsurges forwardor looses power unexpectedly.unexpected power surge happens mostly when taking turns, coming out of the turn the car takes off.loss of power, happens often when going up a hill or sometimes after a stop to take a turn then all of a sudden accelerates uncontrollably. Have had car in to dealer 5 times and still is not resolved.
Faulty transmission/engine - hesitates and causes many near fatal accidents when getting on a highway.hesitation is also seen when stepping on the gas pedal when accelerating from a stop.this is frightening and very stressful to drive.
The vehicle hesitates and is quite unsafe especially when making turns at intersections. Cars would be coming at you while you are 'praying' for it to move! it happens regularly but unpredictably. Sort of like playing russian roulette! the main problem, aside from performance is safety-safety-safety! the car was purchased new and is still under bmw warranty. It's been in the dealership for 3 weeks now! according to them, they are replacing the trans-axle! the same exact problem is happening to all of its owners. Check:http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f11ffdc/0subject: bmw x3 hesitation on acceleration.
Transmission shifts erratically, hesitates on occasion and when cold it causes the engine to rev in excess of 3,000 rpm before shifting.
My car hesitates to change gears during a cold start and there it is a clicking noise when i press the gas pedal.
2007 certified pre-owned bmw x3 needed an entire new transmission after only 30,000 miles.
Vehicle does not properly respond to my pressing the gas pedal and hesitates to move forward.also, severely lurches forward on deceleration, especially on declines.very unsafe.
My new 2007 bmw x3 hesitates when accelerating and seems to shift in peculiar ways. It suffers from a lack of response which is totally unlike my first 6 bmw's. It is quite un-drivable as it is.
Bmw x3 heated seat burned hole through seat. If heated seat is turned on, visible sparks or fire will come through hole. Hole is directly below driver's left thigh. Bmw has issued a recall for other models, but not the x3. The x3 is susceptible to the same issue.
Driving through residential area i fell a little pain on my buttocks, pull over and there is a hole the size of a pea on the seat and similar hole on my pants. Got a mild burn too since i am heavy and was sitting heavily on the affected burn area of the seat.
While driving less than 5 minutes with driver seat heater on, smelled electrical smell, felt pain in leg, then felt shock/burn.not sure which.turned off seat heater.electrical smell comes and goes.small burn hole in seat.not able to use seat heater anymore.
The heater element in the heated seats driver's side burned through the leather and my clothes.
On monday, february 25, 2013 my wifeturned on the driver's-side seat heater and approximately one minute later she smelled smoke. She realized that her clothes were on fire and stopped and jumped out and the seat-heater had burned through the leather seat and was burning her coat.
My husband and i had just gotten in the car and turned on the seat heaters and not even 2 minutes later, he started smelling smoke...he turned the seat heater off and when we got out of the car, there was a pea sized burn in the driver's seat.he also had a burn mark on his jeans that went through to his wallet.fortunately, no one was hurt, but we had our 3 dogs in the car headed to the vet and this could have caused major problems.i certainly hope this is a problem that bmw will accept responsibility for fixing...
While idling for less than five minutes with the seat heat turned on, i smelled smoke but wasn't sure where it was coming from and ignored it. After driving home i found that there was a hole burned through the leather driver's seat and an exposed wire was showing through the hole. Luckily my jacket didn't catch on fire. The outside temperature was in the mid 20s at the time.
I was driving to work early in the morning and since it was a bit chilly, turned on the seat warmer.within seconds i felt a painful burning in my left rear "cheek" and smelled smoke and something burning.i immediately turned off the seat warmer and the smoke and smell cleared.when i was finally able to stop and assess the damage, there is a burned spot on my leather seat and i have a burn on my backside.i took the car in to my mechanic and he states that i was lucky it didn't start a fire because the damage to the heating element/wiring is so extensive.i was advised not to use it until it could be repaired.i bought this vehicle used and i did purchase a warranty with it, but it doesn't look like this item is covered.however, bmw needs to step up and fix this.i almost got into an accident because of the pain and i actually thought the car was on fire.i was very lucky that turning off the seat warmer stopped any further damage.i've already noted 7 other seat warmer issues for the 2007 x3 model, i've read numerous other complaints on various other internet blogs (which would definitely increase the number of complaints if those individuals knew where & how to file a complaint like this), and i also know that there have been other bmw models with similar issues where there has been a recall (04v575000 recall date : nov 24, 2004 ).what are you waiting for?for someone to get seriously hurt or worse, die?this is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed by an immediate recall.this issue nearly caused a fire while i was driving on the freeway and could have caused an accident!!!
The driver's side seat has 2 burn holes where the heater has burned through. Often there has been a burning sensation where the holes are. Until it actually burned through we just thought that it was overly hot. We have an appointment to have it repaired. I am surprised that bmw has not recalled this item already.
While riding in car, passenger (my wife) turned on seat heat and it got very hot, began to smoke and burned 2 holes in vinyl seat back near right bolster. It burned a hole in her sweater, but we realized what was happening, pulled over and turned off seat heat immediately avoiding a burn to her skin. Hoping it was a fluke, i attempted a vinyl upholstery repair with a kit, but it too melted away when i tested the seat heater. I will not run the seat heater again on either the driver or passenger side until this can be addressed by bmwna. This is very clearly a serious and well documented issue that could result in fire and/or injury.
Drivers side seat heater got way too hot. Need to turn off to avoid burn of both seat and driver's leg.
My cars is bought in usa from http://www.selectautoimports.com/ and exported to belarus via lithuania (port of klaipeda).let me report the following case and ask your assistance. A hole of almost 1 cm was discovered after the driver seat heating had been switched ona bmw x3 e83 2007 (a driver coat was also damaged). The car is no longer covered by warranty. The hole is located in the left waist support cushion. It can be noticed that the heater is glowing, sparkling and overheating in this particular place. As i know, such manufacturing defect is rather a common case and is dealt with by local bmw dealers independently of where the car was purchased.please help me solving the above issue which is more annoying as we are in the middle of a severe winter and one does not feel like getting burned or set the car on fire. Pictures is here https://picasaweb.google.com/101022534625221094019/x3?authkey=gv1srgclullsubjnl3pg#thank you very much for your attention on this matterplease contact with me by e-mail.
2007 bmw x3 with just under 80,000 miles.the driver side seat bottom burned through the upholstery and burned the thigh of the driver while the seat heater was in use approximately five minutes into the drive on paved city streets.it was immediately turned off before the upholstery actually caught fire.
I had car heating system on and felt some thing very hot under my thigh. I got down to inspect and found a hole in the car seat. I put off the heating system to reach home safely. I have sent pictures and my complaint to bmw ag and bmw usa.
While driving my x3 at interstate speeds, i activated the driver side seat heater. Approximately two to three minutes later, my upper leg began feeling very hot and it started smelling like something was burning. I lowered the seat heater temperature from the hottest setting to the lowest/coolest setting, and the temperature remained the same - was extremely hot. A short time later, i also saw smoke. When i was able to pull over, i saw a hole on the seat where the seat heater had burned through. It had also burned through the coat i was wearing creating a hole. Called the bmw dealership to see if they would repair and/or replace the seat heater and seat, and they refused saying they would not pay for the repair since there was not a recall for this defect. Called bmw na and received a similar response.
Heated seat was on "medium" setting, within one minute i noticed a burning smell then felt pain in left leg. Heated seat element burned through seat material and burned pants! no real injury but seat was hot enough to burn through the leather and my pants. Seems extremely dangerous.
While driving smelled something burning and also realized my upper leg was in pain. Turned off the seat warmer and investigated after reaching my destination. There was a scorch mark in the seat near the bottom left bolster. Lucky this didn't cause a fire or bodily injury.
Driver side heated seat switch was turned on while driving. Few minutes after switch turned-on, burning smell was felt inside the car. Stopped the car and checked the engine (first guess). It was not from the engine. Sat on the seat and then realized the fume was coming from the seat. The driver seat was burned, my pant bottom was burned and my butt was also burned (not serious).
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3.the contact stated that the driver side seat warmer overheated and burned a hole in the seat.the manufacturer and dealer were contacted, but denied any assistance with repairs to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was approximately 66,500 and the current mileage was 66,655.
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3. The contact stated that the driver's seat emitted a strong burning odor. The contact found that the driver's seat was on fire and had burned through her clothing, injuring the contact. The contact was able to extinguish the fire by pouring water on the seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed but was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 68,000.
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph when a burning smell was exhibited from the inside of the vehicle and smoke was seen coming from the driver's side seat. The contact's coat caught on fire but the contact was able to exit the vehicle without any injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised that the electric heater failed and the entire seat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000. The vin was unavailable.
My drivers side seat has many times started over heating and you can smell the electrical burning. Gets real hot. I have had to turn it off it gets so hot and i always am looking for electrical fire when i smell it. Its real strong. This is dangerous, could start a fire while my car is warming up in the snowy winters. What if this caught fire under me and burnt my legs or body before i could get pulled over. Regardless its faulty and dangerous.
My passenger seats seatbelt light comes on and airbag light comes on when there is just a purse in the seat. It beeps over and over until you click the seatbelt when no one is in it. I know that it feels weight. But it's supposed to be around 45 lbs. Not 10lbs. I will keep a watch on this to see if its having airbag issues with a adult sitting in it. Just like the recall on the drivers side as well, already .what happens if something happens before the new parts are out to fix this recall?? little to late.
While driving i turned on driver seat heater. It smelled like it was burning so i turned it off. I took it to the shop and they said that sometimes it burns a hole in the seat. I turned mine off before it could do that. They unhooked it so that i can't accidentally turn it on.
While driving last night , i started to feel something hot in the seat, and within a few moments there was a burning smell.i leaned forward and looked back at the seat, and it had a flame coming out of a hole melted in the leather.(left side of the driver's seat)luckily, i was wearing a coat and driving in an area that i could pull over quickly.after i hopped out & turned off the heated seats, it continued to spark as my son and i waited outside in the cold for someone to come pick us up.could have been a lot worse, but i'm starting to hear that this is not that uncommon of a an occurrence.thanks!
The passenger seat heating element got so hot that it started to smoke, burnt through the leather and burnt my wife's coat and leg.
Heated drivers seat started to burn me left side of seat. Burning smell. I shut it off, but it looks like it would have continued to burn through seat if i had not. Can feel the wire through the leather seat. Called bmw and they said they would "help" with the cost of repair, but i have to pay a diagnostic fee first. Will take this to me regular mechanic first.
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3. The contact stated that the front passenger side air bag sensor illuminated and dimmed intermittently even though the front passenger seat was unoccupied. The air bag sensor would not illuminate when a passenger occupied the seat. The dealer stated that the front passenger seat needed to be replaced. The test plan indicated that the sensor was defective from the local dealer. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000. Updated 08/19/14*ljbmw agreed to pay half of the charge for the repairs. Updated 08/21/14
Driver's side seat heater has malfunctioned and has burnt the leather and caused discomfort while driving.heavy burnt smell in the cabin resulted from using the seat heater.
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3. When the vehicle was warming up, the contact stepped away for a few minutes. Upon returning, the interior was filled with smoke.
I was driving on the interstate, exiting an off ramp, decelerating in speed when the engine died, the car stalled and i lost power steering. This very same thing happened 5 weeks prior while i was on the interstate traveling 60 mph.

On 10/27/08 i purchased and drove a 2007 cpo bmw x3 3.0si sav from bmw encinitas in california. From the time i drove vehicle from the lot to my home the x3 pulled to the right. On 11/06/08 i took the vehicle back to bmw enciitas. The dealer performed a four wheel alignment and released the vehicle to me. During driving the vehicle home the car still pulled to the right, making it unsafe to drive. On 11/13/08 i took vehicle back to dealer for service. The dealer performed a wheel alignment again, and adjusted the camber to favor the left side. According to the shop foreman, a driving test was conducted and reported that the vehicle drove straight and released the vehicle to me. After i drove the vehicle home the vehicle continued to pull or veered to the right. Again this makes the vehicle unsafe to drive and difficult to control the steering.bmw of usa is refusing to accept that a problem exists with vehicle after several repair attempts.
Driving on a side street at ~20mph and about to make a left turn and the steering completely locked (as when you turn the engine off and park the vehicle, with no ability to turn the steering). The battery and oil lights came on, but the engine was still running. Ended up having to bump into the curb and stop the vehicle. Upon turning the ignition off and turning it back on, it was fine. Dealer does not know what the problem is inspite of having it for a couple days and driving it around. Suspects the steering lock unit may need to be replaced but is not sure since they were not able to replicate the issue nor were they able to see any logs of issues in the on-board computer. Vehicle is running ok now.
The back passenger door suddenly stopped opening. Unable to operate the latch from inside or outside of the vehicle. This could trap an occupant inside or prevent a rescuer from getting a occupant out. This was noticed when vehicle was stopped, in park, all doors were unlocked, when a passenger atrempted to open the door from outside in order to retrieve her belongings. Later attempts to operate the door failed, including locking/unlocking with key, with interior unlock button, with window up and down and with car on and off. Door will not axtivate and nothing sounds broken or detached.
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for a separate incident when the contact was informed that three of the four engine mount bolts were sheared. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.
I have a 2007bmw x3 with both rear spring brokennever have i seen this and also all four engine mount bolts are snapped. I'm the only one that drives it, so i know nothing traumatic has happened to it.
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for service when the contact was informed that the two rear coil springs were broken. The cost they quoted to replace the coil springs was $909 plus tax. Themileage at the time the broken coil springs were discovered was 29,706 miles. This vehicle is always garaged and rarely driven in bad weather. The underside of the vehicle is clean and has no rust. The collapsing suspension due to coil spring failure seems to be a growing problem.reports indicate a big increase in the number of broken coil springs.the simple fact is that the coil springs are lighter and prone to failure.the manufacturer is well aware of this problem and this should be a safety recall due to the dangers caused by the spring failure.the manufacture was notified.

Engine mount broke, resulting in extreme vibration.
Vehicle failed to move for several seconds when accelerator was pushed.this occurs infrequently when vehicle is coasting at a few mph.
My 2007 x3 was involved in a bizarre and freaky solo accident. My house is on sloped hill with a level driveway. The road leading to the driveway is about 20-25 feet below the driveway. On apr. 18, 2013, upon entering the driveway, the car suddenly accelerated, hit concrete columns (on the edge of the driveway, meant for retaining walls) 3 times and went airborne from the edge of the driveway onto the street below. The car hit the street surface on its roof, rolled over once and came to a stop on its 4 tires. Driver and front passenger had seatbelts on and received minor injuries. The rear passenger was ejected from the car and suffered major injuries and still remains hospitalized 18 days after the accident. I have contacted bmw of north america and they have assured me that they will investigate this accident. After doing searches online, i am becoming more and more convinced that this is in fact a car malfunction and not a driver error.http://forum.roadfly.com/threads/13163648-sudden-acceleration-with-08-x3-anyone-elsei would like to establish contact with other bmw owners that have had similar experience.
The contact owns a 2007 bmw x3. The contact stated that when the vehicle was in drive or reverse, it would lurch forward or backward about 100 feet suddenly. When the contact tried to change lanes and accelerate, the vehicle would begin to decelerate. The vehicle felt as if someone were applying the brakes. The contact also noticed a wailing sound from the rear end. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but the failure could not be duplicated. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 31,000 and the current mileage was 33,000.
