The fuel tank flanges have developed cracks and now gasoline leaks onto the motor while driving.the motorcycle has flanges on both the left and right side, both sides have the cracks and they are in the same location.the cracks extend from where the gas fittings are attached.
On top of the fuel tank of a bmw r1200 gs adventure is a pump where the fittings crack from the factory spraying gas over the rider as you ride. One you stop the fuel puddles in the fuel pump area and drips down the motorcycle tank onto the engine and a hot exhaust.
New bmw motorcycle, 2007 gs adv.fuel gauge failed with in weeks.repaired twice.3 months out of warranty, failed again.discovered by running out of gas away from home.reported to dealer and he indicated bmw would not fix.however, this issue is so problematic that bmw has put a different send unit on the new bikes.now the mileage and miles left do not work.
On october 3, 2009, while riding my 2007 bmw r1200gs adventure, the engine stopped while i was driving in traffic on a state highway hear my home forcing me to pull off onto a very narrow shoulder (western nc, mountain roads) and stop with traffic passing me by at highway speeds approximately one foot from my left side.the motorcycle would not restart for several minutes.eventually it did restart and i was able to drive approximately fifty yards before the engine again stopped.this allowed me to get to a wider section of shoulder where i was not at such great risk from traffic.the symptoms indicated a lack of fuel.i checked the quantity of fuel in the tank visually and found ample fuel (i had driven less than one hundred miles since filling the tank, well within the fuel range of the vehicle).again, after approximately five minutes i was able to restart the engine and drive approximately 50 yards.after another few minutes i was able to restart the engine and drive about 50 yards.after another few minutes the engine restarted and got me approximately one mile to my home. A check of error codes in the onboard computer indicated fuel pump failure. On october 5, 2009, i contacted touring sport bmw regarding the failure and they were unaware of the nhtsa campaign id number: 09v319000 regarding this issue.

Fuel indicator bad for the second time in 6 months. Ran out of fuel the first time when it said i had plenty. Now it says its empty when its full.
Fuel pumps were found cracked with broken seals and leaking during normal service.
Prior recall campaign 13v-617 for faulty fuel pumps was performed in 2014.fuel pump has started leaking in the exact same manner that triggered the initial recall.vehicle is leaking fuel from the same part.
Despite a completed recall for the fuel pump flange, cracks in the fuel pump developed and led to the flange snapping completely into two pieces while under pressure. On a trip from memphis tennessee to richmond virginia, the flange broke into two pieces and subsequently covered the rider in gasoline and made continued travel an impossibility. In addition to covering the rider in gasoline and risking injury to skin and eyes, the gasoline also made its way onto the front tire, reducing traction, and onto the front exhaust headers, risking a fire and/or explosion. This occurred while the motorcycle was in motion at roughly 55 mph and predominately in a straight up/down position. The incident occurred on a state route off of interstate 40 near nashville tennessee.
The fuel pump flange cracked and fuel sprayed all over me covering the motorcycle and myself with gasoline.the motorcycle was in motion and i was not able to stop immediately. I was driving to work on a highway and a side street. The part that casued the issue was a fuel pump flange.this part was repaired under recall 13v-617 in july of 2015.the recall fix failed and is a safety issue.
At the suggestion of a fellow bmw motorcycle club member, i inspected the fuel line fittings where they attached to the fuel pump. There were numerous cracks in the plastic around one of the fittings.i was preparing for a summer trip with a friend who also owns a r1200 gsa, so i bought two clamps (same kind as sold by beemer boneyard) so we could avoid a potential failure during the trip.i am disappointed that bmw did not take responsibility for this obvious safety hazard.i have seen recalls for other motorcycles for potentially defective fuel lines, so why is this not any different?
Gas tank cracking at fuel sensor electronics.fuel leak causing fuel to pool at the top of the tank and run down the tank onto the exhaust.
Vibration felt which worsened under power and diminished when power was reduced.pulled off the road and noted smoke and odor from front drive shaft u-joint area.
First final drive failure at 51k, second at 71k, final drive seal at 79k, third final drive at 85k, fourth final drive at 93k. I have paid for three of them, with the latest costing $2600.00 due to the housing being damaged and none available from bmw. Only option was buying brand new final drive. Complained to bmw san jose dealer who contacted regional guy. Their solution was to refund me a third of their cost of the final drive only, a whopping $462.19. Contacted bmw na customer service, was told that this is final decision and they will not be doing any more.
