No response from the leftand right turn signals, horn, electrical windshield, cruise control.an internationally known issue on this bmw bike. Surprised there is no recall issued yet! bmw dealer charges over $600.00 to replace the left hand multi switch part # 61318546213.
My switches, right&left, both failed for the 2nd time in about 3 years. My right side switch failed while i was riding my bike, causing its stalling! so above and beyond the switch issues, the stalling issue is the most annoying as that can directly effect your safety. I think a couple k1300s drivers have reported crashes because of it. That is certainly nothing to be downplayed. You know why reports are coming out now that bmw is finally looking into the problem? because people filed the reports, complained on the forums and called bmwna to see what the heck was going on and for them to get off their arzsses!i am trying to encourage those of us who have been or may be impacted by these problems (switch failures and now the stalling) to take proactive ownership of the problem and not leave our collective safety in the hands of bmwna.now, if the dealers don't have the switches (plano, tx and nashville, tn), it is bmwna's fault - no?if they know that bikes have had bad switches on them, bmw should issue a recall for those bikes that are affected, distribute enough switches to the dealers and replace them all! but, that is not happening. Why not?i'm sorry, but i don't buy into the "nothing you can do about that" theory. I don't care what the actual problem is, it can be fixed. Fixing it yourself and avoiding becoming stranded is not silly."the problem is a little more complex then just cutting and splicing two wires together."do we know for certain when the problem switches were made? do we know what bikes (made when?) will have the problem? when did the assembly line change to the allegedly "redesigned switches"?
Appalled to discover that even the reputable bmw no longer stands behind its products! about 3 years after the initial purchase (brand new) from an authorized bmw dealer, rode my bmw for the 1st time, on a rainy day. The next day, before leaving my garage(i always parked this bike in a covered garage) i noticed that the right turn signal was not functioning. The 4 way signal/hazard was ok though. One week later, while riding it for the 2nd time in rain, i've noticed that there was no response from the horn, left & right turn signals, electrical windshield, cruise ctrl. (surprisingly the 4way was functional still). Since the warranty expired a few months ago, the bmw dealer charged me over $700.00 to replace the left hand multi switch part # 61318546213. I've called bmw on 7 occasions to try to pursue them to at least reimburse me the $470 for the part. On my last attempt spoken to bmw complain dept. Supervisor [xxx], on 12:49 pm, 02/13/14. Explained to them that this issue is very similar to another known nhtsa issue(see campaign number: 09v384000). Also stressed the fact that the bike was never dropped and that i've been taken extraordinary care for it. There is no excuse for something like this to occur! so as a result of the bmw's indifference to this issue i will boycott bmw from now on.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The switches on the right handlebar, for the emergency engine off/engine-start functions failed! as a result engine dangerously stalled while in motion(almost crashed my bike), luckily i was traveling at only 30mph.
Engine has stalled numerous times since new.third time in for this problem in a year.this condition creates a serious safety hazard.if it worsens, it will substantially impair the use or value of my motorcycle.occurs with clutch in or out, in gear & in neutral.happens at idle & at various speeds up to 50 mph.happens as soon as after five minutes of riding or after an hour of riding.happens with one or two riders.
When accelerating around 4500 to 5500 rpm, the engine bogs and the motorcycle loses speed.other times, and at cruising speeds, when turning the throttle to accelerate at lower speeds, the bike does not accelerate immediately and takes a couple of seconds before it accelerates.when pulling in the clutch to change gears, the engine stalls.this can happen in the middle of a turn or driving down a straight road.this happens randomly.

My brother in law and i just purchased new 2010 bmw r1200rt motorcycles from two different dealers.we rode them over 600 miles.while riding the bikes the engine would die without any reason. His died two times and mine died five times, unrelated to any specific gear, or riding condition, acceleration or deceleration. After returning from the trip we took our bikes to the bmw dealer for service....explained the trouble...the service technician said he was aware of the problem and that there was a bmw recall to fix the problem...but he didn't have everything he needed to take care of it.....probably would be two weeks.....i can't believe that bmw is selling brand new motorcycles that they know are defective and extremely dangerous.....can you imagine riding a motorcycle at 70 miles per hour and the engine just stops without any warning and for no reason.....the bmw dealerships should not be allowed to sell the bikes until they are fixed......

The contact owns a 2010 bmw k1300 gt. While riding approximately 30 mph, the odor of fuel was present. The contact discovered fuel had leaked from the fuel pump where the boss threaded into the flange. The contact indicated that the motorcycle was previously serviced per the manufacturer's campaign number: 038538 for the same failure in 2014. During the repairs, a reinforcement ring was installed to prevent the same failure from occurring. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified. The failure mileage was 28,815.
The contact owns a 2010 bmw k1300 gt motorcycle. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact noticed that his pants were wet from fuel that was leaking from a plastic connector line. The contact also stated that the engine started to misfire. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. In addition, the contact stated that the fuel was blowing onto the engine that could have resulted in him sustaining burn injuries. Medical attention was not received. The failure occurred on three different occasions. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer stated that they would file a report and provide an evaluation. The approximate failure mileage was 19,000.
Brake fluid in the front reservoir is foaming, can result in brake failure!
The brakes at the rear wheel locked up. Fortunately i was not traveling at speed but had stopped to get gas. It was at the pump that i discovered that the brake had locked up. The vehicle has been in the shop for six weeks and that to me is an indication that the problem has not been sufficiently reported.at the pump i came to a complete stop and i overshot a little bit. A very little and i could have filled the tank at the place. But none the less i think i'll back up a little to get closer to the pump.it was at this point that i could not move the bike. My first response was to say what the and check that i wasn't stopped against a rock or down in a small depression. I wasn't. Tried again making sure i had the clutch lever pulled and might have put the machine in neutral and push backwards very hard two or three times. Still wouldn't budge.at this point i decided that something wasn't right. I start the motor, put the machine in gear and start to pull away from the pumps. I can now tell that something is not right in my little escape from reality moto road trip world. I have to apply lots of throttle and as i ride around the pumps and toward an out of the way parking place, i have to apply more and more throttle and i can tell the machine is locking up tighter and tighter. I just barely make it out of the line of traffic and the machine is stuck solid. After i initially am stopped, i play with tying more and more throttle and get nowhere.i'm broke down in the heart of the city of farson wyoming.
Center stand bent while trying to stand up my bike on it. I rarely used it, never abused it. Poor engineering suggested by an authorized motorcycle mechanic!
