My vehicle was parked for a week from the date that i last driven it and to the time i went and start up the car. After a week of no usage as soon as i started the car, the passenger seat belt restraint and airbag light showed up as a malfunction. After doing some research i notice that bmw had a recall on a seat mat sensor on 200,000 5 series but after talking to bmw my vehicle is not covered under this recall. I also did some research and notice that there is a great amount of people with this same problem. This is a major concern because the seat mat sensor is bad the passenger airbag will not deploy if i get into a car accident.

My car have an overheated cable connection and is causing increased electric resistance, which is a recall and also the passenger airbag light is on and bmw refuse to fix the issues.. They say my vin wasn't one of the car that's in their database for the recalls........
When the vehicle is turned on and while driving, it says passenger air bag malfunction because of seat belt tensioner or something else. And won't turn off
I turned on my car and a notification appeared on the idrive that there was a passenger restraint system failure.i read that there was a recall on this and called my local bmw dealership to give them my vin to see if my vehicle would be on the recall.i found out that it was not.i don't know what fits the criteria for the recall and if this would be considered normal wear and maintenance of the vehicle.

2005 bmw 545i e60 fault in passenger restraint system:this model bmw has experienced a fault in the passenger restraint system and is not listed in the past recall which can lead to dangerous situations if an accident occurs and the restraint system malfunctions. The problem is in the mat of the passenger seat and upon a passenger getting into my car about a year ago, i received the error message. I spoke with varying bmw dealerships (in different states) and received mixed information from the recall wasn't approved yet to the current version of no recall and i would have to pay the full repair costs. Speaking with bmw of usa, there was apparently an extended warranty issued for this problem, but the dealership never mentioned this possibility to me when speaking with them. As of now, the extended warranty is expired so should this issue occur on your car today - you are responsible for the full cost of the repair which is in excess of $1000 and additional diagnostic fees.there is a vast amount of information on the poor quality of the passenger seat mat used by bmw in these models leading to this malfunction. Can someone please explain why the e60 bmw models were not covered in the recall when they are experiencing the same exact issue as other models that were covered? this can get someone seriously hurt and bmw is placing this responsibility back on the consumer when they are at fault.this issue clearly spans many more bmw models that were listed in the recall and consumers are being forced to pay the bill for poor decisions on bmw's part. It would be nice to see more action and attention placed on this issue by the nhtsa.related instances of the same issue:nhtsa campaign number: 15v205000 nhtsa campaign number: 13v564000
Front occupancy seat sensor mat. This is under campaign id 08v384000. My make and model plus year is included in this. A call to bmw states that my car is not in this recall.
Upon turning on vehicle i drive said passenger restraint system malfunction. I called bmwna and they said that there was no recall, so i did some research and found this website https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/vehiclecomplaint/index.xhtml stating that my vehicle should be covered and i agree since this would be considered a safety issue.
A passenger restraint malfunction light has came on my 2005 545 bmw. After doing a little research it seems that this problem is quite common on bmws and i feel as its an issue with the production of the car and should not be at the owners expense for a faulty production. My extended warranty does not cover this repair and i've contacted the bmwna and was told that there is a recall but not on my car. The cost to repair is over $2000 and i feel that it is a safety issue bmw needs to address since there are so many issues with the passenger seat airbag sensors.
The front airbag sensor has malfunctioned, this is a huge safety hazard that had a recall and shame on bmw for not covering this for the life of their vehicles.god forbid someone gets hurt because they could not afford to pony up the $1300 to fix this shoddy part

Hello sir or ma'am;i am writing to you to address a current national highway traffic administration (nhtsa) safety recall affecting my vehicle (and presumably many similar vehicles).i currently own a 2005 bmw 545i 4-door sedan (vin: [xxx]) and have recently experienced a front passenger seat occupant detection mat malfunction.this sensor malfunction affects the deployment of the front passenger seat airbag in the event of a collision.the error codes my vehicle is displaying are the same as those addressed in the nhtsa safety recall (nhtsa campaign number 08v384000, dated 5 aug 2008) indicating a passenger airbag has malfunctioned, "off", and will not deploy in the event of an emergency.the nhtsa recall indicated bmw is recalling 2004-06 5-series models (including the 545i) equipped with seat types that may produce similar errors due to cracking that develops with age.frankly, i find it ridiculous that other vehicles with the same year, make, and model are experiencing the same malfunctions and errors as my vehicle, however, those vehicles are being covered under a current bmw safety recall while my vehicle is not.in the end, my passenger airbag will not deploy in the event of a collision for the same malfunctioning seat sensor, yet, bmw has turned a blind eye to myself and i presume a large number of owners with this same problem.can the nhtsa address this issue with bmw na? thank you in advance for your time and consideration regarding this matter.please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions regarding this issue.have a great day.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Driving approximately 50 mph an accident occurred where there was oil in road. My car lost control and veered into a guard rail on the highway. My car was subsequently totaled and none of my air bags deployed in the crash.
My car has the light on for airbag and seat belt do to malfunction of seat pad sensor in passenger seat.called bmw of america, and was told that my car is not covered under the recall.would appreciate you looking into the matter .thanks in advance.

The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

The contact owns a 2005 bmw 545i. The contact stated that while pulling into his driveway at unknown speeds, the air bag warning light illuminated.the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
I bought my 2005 bmw 545i after a week my seatbelt and and airbag lights will not go out, even with seatbeltlocked in, is there a recall so i can get this fix and feel safe when driving my car.
Got indication passenger air bag/ restraint system malfunction on idrive. Took car to repair shop and i was told occupancy sensor in passenger seat was bad. I checked for a recall for this vehicle with bmw. I was told no recalls for this problem on this vehicle was covered. I checked with the parts department and was told there was only one sensor for this car. If that's the case how can bmw only cover 200,00 of the defective units and not all that were made during this time period. Further, on the ones they did cover they increased the warranty period to 10 years from date of original sale with no mileage restrictions? it seems to me a deal was made with the ntsb to cover at least some of the defective units but not all. By extending the warranty period to 10 years on the same part that is used in all vehicles on this class, indicates bmw has admitted all the parts are faulty. Bmw should include all vehicles that use this part in the recall, recall #08v384000 not just a limited number. According to my records this is the second occurrence of this issue, and well before 2015 when the 10 year warranty extension would have expired.also this indicates the replacement sensor are not holding up well. It is my opinion a programming change should be made, where the onboard computer, controlling the air bag, uses a input from a seat belt connect sensor to determine if the passenger seat is occupied? not the faulty mat in the seat.
My passenger side air bag light and seat belt light are both on at all times. The on board computer says fault in passenger side seat belt or seat belt tensioner.also the back brakes don't work at all but the front ones do.was wondering if this was a recall matter before i spend thousands to fix the problem
As i understand a vehicle for passenger side airbag in passenger side free stream has been dealt with already i just received this vehicle several months ago so it is new to me and i have the same errors as which a recall has been issued for my car 2005 545 i bmw. As i have read after x amount of years a recall is finalized i just received this vehicle several months ago so i feel i am still able to succeed from this safety recall from the manufacture
Passenger airbag restrain system, stationary city street
Passenger side airbag fault light stays on. Dealer said problem wasn't under warranty. Information i found on the internet and bmw sites say it is under warranty. I am afraid if i'm in an accident, my passenger could be seriously injured, or killed.

2005 bmw 545i. Consumer writes in regards to several issues with vehicle to include passenger side airbag, transmission issues and leaks *tgwthe consumer stated the issue with the passenger side air bag was recalled. Even though the part was replaced twice under warranty and exhibited the same symptoms as stated in the recall, the consumer's vin was not included. The consumer also stated there was a jolt/delay when pulling away. Within the last three months, the transmission wouldshift between 30-40 mph as if it were not getting enough fuel. There was also a coolant leak coming from the valley pan, a hose and the coolant tank were replaced. The engine was replaced in 2008, and since then, the vehicle used excessive amounts of coolant.

On may 12th, i was driving my 2005 545i bmw at 8pm with my wife and two children on the highway.the display indicated a windshield wiper malfunction (would not turn off or control speed of wipers).after a few more miles, i noticed there was no communication to any of the steering column controls, nor did the turn signals work (would not stay on unless held down).almost simultaneously, the airbag malfunction warning came on, seat belt tensioners may not function, and the active steering system malfunction warning came on, indicating that the car's steering wheel may not be properly aligned with the wheels.the car became more difficult (more effort) to steer, with loss of some power steering.i was able to control the car back down to 20 mph. After stopping at a traffic light, the car entered transmission failsafe program, limiting the car to gears r, n, 1, 2, 3 for the remainder of the trip home.the next morning, the high battery drain indicator came on also.power windows and remote key functions ceased to work, although i could still control the sunroof.i promptly brought the car into the dealership the next morning on may 13th.the bmw dealership ran a diagnostic and states the szl module in the steering column needs to be replaced.the car is at 51050 miles, and beyond warranty coverage at 5 years old.bmw na will not cover the costs of repair to the vehicle to correct this safety issue, even though there was a technical service bulletin (si b340506) issued for 2006 models describing similar failures in their products.i am submitting this report so that this would not happen to other drivers and their families with similar cars.
While driving to work during morning rush hour in a busy highway the car just stopped running. No odd sounds no shutting no clunking. It was like some just turned the key off.i made it to the side of the highway and had to wait two hours for a tow truck to show up.most of the week previous to this my car would not start at random times even though my battery was good and i had gas. The problem was the dme had water ingress from a poor location where the dme and metronic computer and the intergraded power module are located and stored. They are in a sealed plastic box under the cabin fresh air inlets and cabin filters and the front hood cowl. I'm the box there is a fan at the bottom to expell moister. If the intergtated power module starts to go then the fan stops working or the fan it self goes bad. At that point there is almost always water ingress into the dme and or the metronic computer causing the car to not to run or even crank and with water corrosion on the the dme it causes phantom problems in other areas of the car. The dme is also not easily replaced. The car had to be taken to the dealership and they have to order a new dme and align it with the be cas module for the immobilizer to work correctly and for your car to start. This usally cost in excess of $2,000 just for the new dme.the worst part of this whole thing is i lost my job because i was 4 hours late to work after waiting for the tow and getting a ride to work
2005 bmw 545i steering malfunction light illuminated, stalled without warning, windshield wipers didn't work when it rained, headlights shut off at night time, and check engine warning light illuminated. The navigation system went blank, the turn signals did not work. The steering column motor was replaced. The consumer believed there was a serious electrical problem with the vehicle.the check engine light illuminated because water was found in the luggage compartment which had damaged the wires.
The contact owns a 2005 bmw 545i. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the steering wheel became very stiff and the power steering deactivated warning lamp illuminated. The contact mentioned that after restarting the vehicle, all of the warning lamps illuminated and an electronic malfunction warning message showed up before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage 120,000.
At approxamitately 1:20pmon july 13, after being parked fora little over an hour i was told that my car was burning. 911 was called immediately and the owner of the establishment went outside and called to the firemen at the station on the other side of the street. Their response was immediate. Response was so quick that damage was limited to the right rear. Which seems that the fire started in the area directly foreward and above the battery
I have a 2005 bmw 545i.when i am decelerating and rolling towards a stop and then accelerate before a full stop i will get a large jerking transmission bang coming from the back of the car.in addition while driving the car around 35-40 mph the transmission slips from one gear to the next and back causing the car to surge and jerk slightly.
Good evening all, since 2011 i have had issues with the i drive system. Just recently, the system stopped working. After attempting to resolve the issue with bmw of ontario, they declined to cover the vehicle's i drive computer module. Finally, the computer stopped working and i could not see my computer display or listen to music. I could not re-set the air pressure on the tires. I drove the vehicle that way for months. Finally, i went to the junk yard and found a vehicle similar to mine and replaced it. Even though i replaced the computer, i was not able to gain certain functions on my vehicle that came standard with that particular vehicle such as the satellite radio or speak to call function. I'm pretty sure many vehicle owners can relate to this issue and the difficulty it has created to try and mitigate with the dealer. Take care,

I purchased my used 2005 bmw 545i with only 55k miles on it in may 2009.on or about march 2010, the vehicle started jerking during acceleration and sometimes a hard "jolt" as if you hit a large object in the road or hit by another vehicle from the rear.on acceleration, the car will sometimes rev way up, without engaging the transmission, and then slam into action so fast that it feels like being hit from behind. It is life-threateningly dangerous, because when it happens, it is such a shock you are distracted from driving.it normally happens from a full stop, but has happened on the freeway numerous times as i was trying to move from a slow lane to a faster lane. When it slams, the natural tendency is to let off the gas, however, there was faster traffic approaching from the rear, and i almost got hit.after checking popular bmw owner websites such as bimmerfest, i noticed there were countless owners with the same problem with the same model years (2004-2005 545i) which has the v-8 engine and drive train.bmw has not recalled this defect as of this date and will not unless someone gets killed, seriously injured, or receive major public embarrassment like toyota's accelerator problems.i was informed that there is a software upgrade (fix) available from bmw that will fix this problem, but they prefer customers to pay out of pocket (out of warranty customers) opposed to voluntary recalls forced by the government or bad pr from the media press.the bmw service information bulletin (sib) that addresses this problem is: 24 03 05 software update for transmission. I plan to take this matter to the media press if solutions aren't offered from bmw or the government.
Headlight wires are almost bare, and could possibly spark and cause a fire.
Good evening sir,i am writing to you because my vehicle had bare wires on the headlight. The hot wire and ground wires were touching. I did not have the headlight working. There is a problem with the wires of the vehicle peeling off after a certain amount of time.
The contact owns a 2005 bmw 545i. While the seat heater was activated, the front driver's seat became extremely hot. Smoke was seen coming from the seat and the right side of the steering wheel. The seat heater was turned off and there were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact was concerned that this could cause a fire. The vehicle was taken to habberstad bmw new and pre-owned (945 e jericho turnpike, huntington station, ny 11746 (800) 997-9313) where it was diagnosed that the faulty heater wiring, the seat, and the steering wheel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The contact was advised not to activate the seat heater. The failure mileage was 123,000.updated 08/30/17*lj
I turned my car on and it immediately warned me that my left read brake lamp was not functioning. To be specific, there were four warning lights on: one for the reverse lights, one for the brake lamp, and two other ones. All for the left light. I opened it up and immediately observed that the wiring harness plug where the wiring meets the bulb holder had shorted at the ground wire. The two pieces were melted together, suggesting there may have been a small fire. Bits of melted plastic fell all over the place when i managed to finally pull out the plug.
Certain bmw models including e60 2005 545i almost all require valve seal replacement due to faulty manufacturing defects. This results in oil leaking into the engine and secondary air injector causing smoke to emit out of the tailpipes. Although my car passed al computerized smog checks, it did not pass the new visual test because of these faulty valve stem seals.this occurs afte idling the engine for 10 minutes. The repair costs for this are about equal to the retail value of the car.every mechanic i've spoken to believes this should be recalled.
The coolant transfer pipe which runs through the engine leaked all of the coolant and required an immediate shut down. It required a repair costing approximately $6,700 which included 38 hours of labor. This is clearly a design flaw. It is widely cited on the internet.
An excessively harsh 2-1 downshift when decelerating to a stop, ortransmission "bangs" into gear when accelerating from a full or a "rolling" stop (vehicle did not come to a complete stop).

The contact owns a 2005 bmw 545i. The contact stated whenever the air conditioner was turned on there was an overpowering mildew smell coming from the vents. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility and the air conditioner was drained of excess water. There were no prior warnings. The failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 45,000.
I was jacking up my bmw in my garage using a proper floor jack on the right side rear jackpoint stand built to jack the car up from the right rear. The jackpoint failed after it was approximately 6 inches off ground, and the vehicle dropped back to the floor where the entire jackpoint was now collapsed inside of the frame. I contacted bmw dealer in chapel hill,nc, and also bmwna who opened a case under my vin number, and had me bring the vehicle into the dealer for an inspection, and that they would look things over, and correct the situation. The dealer took 4 weeks to get back, and told me they needed to see the car again to take photos, and look it over again so i took it back to the same dealer in chapel hill, nc (performancebmw).they took another 4 weeks, and asked if i could bring it back again as they needed a specialist who travels to the dealership to look over the vehicle, and so i took it in again a 3rd time.i thought finally they would resolve this issue, but after the 3rd visit they have neglected to contact me back, and upon myself contacting them 2 -3 weeks after the visit i was told it would not be covered ,and that bmwna would take no further action into repairing my vehicle. This is a huge safety issue which i have read has happened to others, and their is absolutely no rust on the underside of my car, and it was not in an accident.the frame did not have any damage whatsoever until this jackpoint failure, and now they just want to not return my calls, and not help at all. Anyone looking can clearly see the jackpoint broke on the inside, and you can see the weld points that have failed on the frame. Is there anything you could possibly do to help with this since it is a serious safety concern. The fix would mean pulling the jackpoint back down from the inside of the frame, and re-welding the side of the jackpoint.
Headlight wires are almost bare, and could possibly spark and cause a fire.
Good evening all, every time i fill up the gas in the vehicle, there is a strong smell inside the cab. This began occurring about 4 years ago but has continued thought my time with the vehicle. Currently, i cannot fill the tank at more than . If i do fill up the vehicle to more thani face having to smell the fumes of the fuel inside the cab of the vehicle. This is a safety issue and should be recalled. Many people have a similar complaint with these vehicles.
Frequent electronic malfunctions (averages 1 per hour).car will engage cruise control with no warning.occasionally will increase the cruise control by 5 mile per hour increments.will randomly spray & wipe windows.frequently unlocks doors & will not allow them to be locked again until the car is stopped & turned off.makes frequent emergency calls (often 3-4 times in an hour).moves & adjusts steering wheel while driving.activates turn signals.activates 4 way flashers. Rolls up & down windows with no warning.sometimes will go outside to car to find windows rolled down while car was parked.activates alarm siren while driving.and more .....
For many years, and after many "repairs" my 2005 bmw 545i, which i bought new, has never run right. Bmw is aware of the problem, does acknowledge that it is an issue, but has been unable to repair it. I have spent many thousands of dollars in search of a permanent fix, but the last bmw dealer i dealt is miffed on solving the problem.when approaching between 25-35 mph, the transmission "slams" and feels like you have been rear-ended. It is a continuous problem.i have to slightly let up on the gas in these speeds in order for the car to run right without an emergency light coming on saying "transmission fault; drive moderately." this can be a dangerous situation because the car is sensing the fault and it will not allow one to drive much above 50 mph without straining the engine.going down the highway at 50mph in my area can be a hazardous activity!this has been a continuous situation with the car since i purchased it up and thru the present date, aug, 21, 2014. I have no faith in the engine/power train/transmission. This is my first and last bmw.
An excessively harsh 2-1 downshift when decelerating to a stop, ortransmission "bangs" into gear when accelerating from a full or a "rolling" stop (vehicle did not come to a complete stop).
The contact owns a 2005 bmw 545i.the contact stated the air bag and power transmission warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle also occasionally stalled while driving on the highway. The dealer and manufacturer were notified and made the contact aware of the nhtsa campaign id number: 05v504000 (power train:automatic transmission) and the nhtsa campaign id number: 08v384000 (air bags:frontal) recall, but the vin was not associated. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 104,000 and the current mileage was 112,000.
Car slams like you just got rear ended if you speed up while rolling at around 35mph. This is very dangerous as it happens when i'm trying to change lanes and speed up. Also transmission jerks as if you are missing a spark or it is trying to find a higher or lower gear while cruising in traffic between 32-40 mph. It jerks noticeably where my son asks why are you driving like that. This is terrible and needs to be dealt with, regardless whether the car is still under warranty or not. None of these incidents signals a check engine warning. The bang at rolling is enough to give one whiplash.
My bmw 545i 2005 has experienced problems with mechatronics for some time. One day i was driving home and my car has down shifted from high 4th gear to 2nd and caused me to drive into a ditch. Luckily i was wearing a seat belt but still experienced neck injuries from hitting the ditch.this problem needs a recall before some one gets killed.bmw can no longer cover this up and this issue needs to be investigated. Manyforms on the internet have addressed the same problem. This is no longer a issue, its a life safety problem.
I have been reviewing blogs on the 2005 bmw 545i series. About a month ago i started experiencing issues with my car. The car is accelerating at times on its own as i switch the transmission into drive and i let go of the brake. It gives a boost of acceleration where i almost hit my garage door. On several occasions when i roll from a stop sign the car experiences a big jolt as if i just got rear ended. It is so hard that my 4 year old got flustered and started to cry. At 30-40 miles the car started to jerk as well. I took it into bmw but since the sensor does not pick up the problem they was nothing they could do according to them. They informed me that it is hard to tell what is wrong it could be transmission, sensor, brakes, engine, etc...i feel they know but do not know what the extend of the problem is. There is a problem and they need to admit it and it might be an electronic issue with the gear box functionality. It seems they need some pressure before it causes a fatality. The acceleration and jolt are a big problem. Please address and let's not add to your number of deaths column before you react.
I started having problems several months ago that has progressively gotten worse. When i accelerate from a stop, it appears that the automatic transmission is struggling to get to the next gear. The rpms will fluctuate up and down and sometimes rev way up before the car kicks like i have been hit. If i try to accelerate fast from a stop, the engine will rev up to about 5k rpm and stop responding until i let off the gas and let the rpms drop down and then it will kick into gear. If i slow down to almost a stop and then accelerate it will most certainly kick, so i have to be very cautious. I have to make sure i have plenty of room when pulling out of an intersection because i never know when it will act up (which is most of the time) and hinder my acceleration. Once i get up to cruising speed (above 45 mph) it runs smoothly, but it has gotten to the point that i dread every time i have to stop at an intersection or slow way down. I talked to the dealer and said if it was the transmission then the service light would come on. He asked me what kind of gas i use and i said shell high octane and he said that is good. Other than that, he didn't tell me much more. I want to sell the car next spring but who will buy it with it performing this way?
My 2005 bmw 545i has a hesitation, and strong hard downshift present, under factory warranty i complained about this, and now outside of factory warranty i am still having issues, and no one is willing to do anything about it at my dealer basney imports. When calling bmwna they are unwilling to help until a "hard code" is present, even though the service advisor, and technicians have road around with me in the car, and felt the situation.
2005 bmw 545i.if the car does not come to a complete stop, and i accelerate while in a slow roll, there is an extremely hard slam from the transmission.this is a known problem throughout bmw owner of the 545i series.bmw has to know about the fault in either there programming or there transmission and should recall and fix properly.anyone can go to the numerous bmw forums throughout the internet and find the many threads regarding this issue.
I own a 2005 545i. I was pulling into the gas station to refuel. I began to hit the brake the car started to jerk back and forth and then it accelerated on its own. I began to pump the brake and the car stop short of the mini mart thank god! afterwards a gear indicator appeared and the car went into safe mode and shut off. I couldn't start the car and i tried for thirty minutes and only the gear indicator would come on. I then called a tow truck company after thirty minutes, right before the tow truck arrived the car started. I took the car to bmw of roxbury and i was told that since my dsc light was on that needed to be repair to alleviate the problem. After challenging them, how can a add on feature (to increase stabilization and traction) that i never used when it was working cause the car to drive by itself. They dropped the issues called me back after a hour and said they drove the car around for 25 min and nothing is wrong. Also there was no record of the gear indicator coming on even though it came on twenty or so times when i was trying to start the car. So i guess i will get my car back and pay them a few hundred dollars for nothing. Is fine and there is no record the gear light ever came on. So.

I am writing to you to address a current national highway traffic administration (nhtsa) safety recall affecting my vehicle (and presumably many similar vehicles). I currently own a 2005 bmw 545i 4-door sedan (vin: [xxx] with 84,474 miles and have recently experienced a front passenger seat occupant detection mat malfunction. This sensor malfunction affects the deployment of the front passenger seat airbag in the event of a collision. The error codes my vehicle is displaying are the same as those addressed in the nhtsa safety recall (nhtsa campaign number 08v384000, dated 5 aug 2008) indicating a passenger airbag has malfunctioned, "off", and will not deploy in the event of an emergency. The nhtsa recall indicated bmw is recalling 2004-06 5-series models (including the 545i) equipped with seat types that may produce similar errors due to cracking that develops with age. Frankly, i find it ridiculous that other vehicles with the same year, make, and model are experiencing the same malfunctions and errors as my vehicle, however, those vehicles are being covered under a current bmw safety recall while my vehicle is not. In the end, my passenger airbag will not deploy in the event of a collision for the same malfunctioning seat sensor, yet, bmw has turned a blind eye to myself and i presume a large number of owners with this same problem. Can the nhtsa address this issue with bmw na? thank you in advance for your time and consideration regarding this matter. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions regarding this issue. Have a great day.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I bought my 2005 bmw 545i after a week my seatbelt and and airbag lights will not go out, even with seatbeltlocked in, is there a recall so i can get this fix and feel safe when driving my car.
My car has the light on for airbag and seat belt do to malfunction of seat pad sensor in passenger seat.called bmw of america, and was told that my car is not covered under the recall.would appreciate you looking into the matter .thanks in advance.
The contact owns a 2005 bmw 545i. The contact stated that upon entering the vehicle, the air bag and seat belt warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the passenger seat central mat needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact was made aware of nhtsa campaign number 08v384000 (air bags) however, the vin number was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000. The vin was not available.
When the vehicle is turned on and while driving, it says passenger air bag malfunction because of seat belt tensioner or something else. And won't turn off
A passenger restraint malfunction light has came on my 2005 545 bmw.

My passenger side air bag light and seat belt light are both on at all times. The on board computer says fault in passenger side seat belt or seat belt tensioner.also the back brakes don't work at all but the front ones do.was wondering if this was a recall matter before i spend thousands to fix the problem
The contact owns a 2005 bmw 545i. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa recall campaign id number: 10v446000 (service brakes, hydraulic: power assist vacuum) and now the vacuum pump was leaking. The brake vacuum line was replaced, but that did not prevent the vacuum pump from failing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who stated that the vacuum pump was not cover under the recall since only the brake line hose, brake booster and brake calibur were listed. The failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 77,000.
The contact owns a 2005 bmw 545i. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. After repeated attempts and full bodily force, the vehicle then came to a stop.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The technician informed the contact that the brake vacuum pump would need to be replaced. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 10v446000 (service brakes, hydraulic) but was advised that the vin was ineligible under the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.
Coming to a stop sign, had to exert an unusual amount of force to the brake pedal to stop.going to the dealer to have my brakes checked under the bmw brake recall, i was told i had no oil in my brake line, but the car was diagnosed with a vacuum pump oil leak.remedy was to replace pump and clean, for $1300.if you look on the bmw e60 forum, and others, there are numerous identical complaints.something has to be done.
Brake failure.
1. The events leading up to the failure - brake loss2. The failure, how often it occurs, its consequences:this started about 3-4 months ago. I was driving about 25-30mph and had to stop because the light turned red. I stepped on the brakes but my car did not stopped. It felt like i was stepping on a brick but there was no brake pressure. I pulled the e-brake, turned off the car and turned it back on again and it was ok after that.i ignored that issue thinking it was just a phantom issue - just like most electrical issues with bmw's. I don't drive my car everyday - maybe once or twice a week at the most. After a few weeks, i had the same issue again, it happened to me twice. Same scenario - driving about 30-35mph. It is not spongy (i know for sure if it was caused by air on the brake system) - it definitely felt like stepping on a brick, as in literal brick. I thought maybe i have to change the brake fluid since manufacturer recommends replacing the fluid every 2 years. About 2 weeks ago, i was driving at the interstate driving about 70mph, i had to press my brake because a low moving vehicle moved in front of me. I have to press the brake then had the same issue again. I have to drive on the left paved side of the interstate to avoid colliding with the van in front of me. Yesterday, i changed my brake fluid. Went to the groceries to test drive it. Driving about 15-25mph on traffic - had the same issue again. No brakes, no pressure, felt like stepping on a brick. Turned of engine and turned it back on - went back to normal.
Occurrence is very similar to oid 10399328, 10328989 and 10407868.first occurrence was in congested traffic conditions at slow speed. The vehicle slowed when brakes were applied normally but did not come to a full stop. Had to stomp on the brakes will extreme force to avoid colliding with the car in front. Problem recurred intermittently 3 time before repairs. Additionally, frequently when foot was on brake when the car was turned off the pedal would forcefully push back against foot. Service on recall for hydraulic power vacuum pump on the booster was performed in january. Dealer said the current problem is not covered under the recall as it is a complete booster failure not the vacuum pump.my perception is that the first recall was not comprehensive enough to address a larger general problem vehicle's booster braking system.
The contact owns a 2005 bmw 545i. While driving approximately 45 mph and depressing the brakes, the brake pedal dropped to the floor board. The contact applied excessive pressure to the brake pedal in order for the vehicle to come to a stop. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics or repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 87,500.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 bmw 545i. The contact stated whiledriving at speeds of 35 mph and depressing the brake pedal, thebrakes would not fully engage. The vehicle decreased in speed butwould not stop. She was able to move the vehicle from thehighway and engaged the emergency brake to stop the vehicle.the vehicle was towed to a local repair shop where theindependent mechanic advised the brake booster and vacuum hadfailed. There were no repairs yet made to the vehicle. Themanufacturer would not provide any assistance. The failuremileage was 60,000. The vin was not available.
The contact owns a 2005 bmw 545i. While driving approximately 5 mph and applying pressure to the brake pedal the contact stated the vehicle would not come to a stop. The contact had to apply excessive pressure to the brake pedal in order for the vehicle to stop. The failure occurred intermittently when the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal. The contacts vin was included in nhtsa recall campaign id number: 10v446000 (service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum). Recall repairs were performed prior to the failure. The dealer stated the recent repairs would not be covered under the recall because the recall repairs had already been performed. The vehicle was not repaired.

Driving approximately 50 mph an accident occurred where there was oil in road. My car lost control and veered into a guard rail on the highway. My car was subsequently totaled and none of my air bags deployed in the crash.
I am the second owner of a certified pre-owned 2005 bmw 545i.i purchased the car in jan 2009 from bmw of pleasant grove in salt lake city utah with approx. 35,000 miles.when i drove the car out of the dealership it had dunlop run-flat tires on it.by august 31st 2010 the car had approximately 58,000 miles on it and needed replacement tires. I took it to discount tire in san diego(pacific beach location) and had (4) new michelin tires installed.i drove home and the next day on september 1st 2010 while driving to work one of the tires went flat.i returned to discount tire that evening and they re-inflated the tire and placed it into a water tank to check for leaks.that is when the employee told me that i had a cracked rim.i contacted the bmw of san diego dealership regarding this issue and after inspecting the rim they stated therim cracked and "failed due to impact" and claimed that i had most likely hit a curb or a large pot hole which caused the rim to crack. I was forced to buy a new rim for $363 dollars.i am not the only bmw owner with this problem.while i was at discount tire on september 1st 2010 a gentlemen driving a 2005 645i came in and was diagnosed with the exact same problem- cracked rear rim.the manager at discount tire stated he sees 4-5 bmw's per week that come in with cracked rims.bmw refuses to acknowledge that the rims on their vehicles are not properly designed, engineered, or manufactured to withstand normal daily driving conditions.i have owned and driven 6 cars in my life and never once have i cracked a rim in the course of normal daily driving. This is a serious safety hazard.if a rim were to crack and fail at high speed during interstate driving conditions over 65 mph this could cause a fatality.great britain currently has an investigation ongoing to look into the problem with all of the cracked/faulty bmw rims in their country.the nhtsa needs to investigate this as a matter of public safety.
The tires wore out in less than 1000 miles on a new car. The company (bmw) was aware of this problem but delivered the car with the defective tires.

For the past 2 years i have been having problems with multiple flat tires. The dealer kept telling me i had bad tires and i bought new tires every time. This year again i have 2 flat tires and now the dealer is telling me i have 3 cracked rims and 1 bent rim. I did not hit anything. My insurance carrier state farm told me this is a problem with bmw wheels and they are not responsible to fix. The dealer is saying they know nothing of a rim problem. But when i searched it on line i found thousands of people with the same issue. This is a huge danger to me as well as anyone else near me when these rims and tires fail.
The wheels on my 2005 bmw 545 have all cracked. The wheels had to be replaced.
