The contact owns a 2004 bmw 545i. While the vehicle was parked, the air bag and passenger seat belt warning lights illuminated. The failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front passenger seat air bag occupant detection mat failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 181,500.
I recently purchased a 2004 bmw 545i. On the second time having a passenger in the car, while driving down the highway, i was alerted by a chime and message that the passenger side airbag / safety restraint system had failed. Also noticed was that when turning on the driver's seat heater, the seat got very hot in one particular spot- on the left side near my hip(hot enough that i received a minor burn on my leg through a pair of jeans). I contacted bmw customer service about the problem, as i was made aware that there were recalls on other models for the same reasons, and was told that there were no open recalls for either issue on my model. The representative simply explained that the vehicle was out of warranty and that fixing the issues would be at my expense.i believe that these are very serious defects that could affect my safety and the safety of my passengers.
The air bag warning came on in the information center about a malfunction on the passenger side.dealer said sensor would need replacement.
My car has the passenger restraint system warning everytime i start my car. The air bag recall is by takata is for the 2003 545i model. My car was manufactured in sep of 2003 with those takada airbags.
Takada recall.my car's make cracking noise or groaned noises as some other e60 owners described.the noises sounded as the car start rolling at low speed whether go straight or turn a little to left or right. It's happened every time. The airbag light come on during drive and it is off when i shut off the engine. The next time i start the car is still remain stayed on, and it's goes off during drive.the steering wheel seems not firm unlike e39 is more firm. I found a forum where the e60 owners had similar problem and the dealer solved the problems i mentioned above by just replace the takata airbag and maybe an update of software involved.in conclusion to my complaint regarding takada airbag the bmw should open a recallfor my car or add my car to the recall list as it's not safe for me and my family. Please help, thank you.
There is a bmw service bulletin si b 65 75 06 where they say they will fix an airbag and seatbelt issue on e60, e61 (5 series) vehicles produced up to 11/2005. The bulletin says it is due to oc3 seat mat fault.due to parts defect they also cover it with an additional 10 year warranty according to the bulletin.my bmw 5 series was manufactured in 08/04 and currently has the exact same issue outlined in the service bulletin according to my mechanic.he said that i have micro cracks in my oc3 seat mat and thats why my airbags are now off all the time when i drive. I currently do not have any running airbags in my vehicle because their computer system detects micro cracks in my oc3 seat mat and disengages the airbags because it detects that someone is not sitting in the seat.i do not feel safe anymore driving this vehicle and since it displays it on the main screen at all times i cannot even sell the vehicle since no one would want one without airbags that work.bmw says they will correct this issue on a customer complain basis in the recall.when i let bmw dealership know about my issue they say that my vehicle does not show up on the computer and bmw is refusing to fix the issue. I have a 5 series as described in their bulletin. I am within the guidelines issued on si b65 75 06 dated february 2009.from searching on the internet there are other customers with bmw 545's who have had this issue rectified by bmw.it is the same part and same issue (micro cracks) they need to cover this so i have working airbags.
When i got up out the seat the airbag and seat belt indicator came on and is still on. It says passenger restraint system malfunction. And it will not deploy airbags. Also there have been a few oil leaks in the engine.
Custom ordered 545i in 2004 as still original/existing owner.have had repeated electrical errors on i drive "dynamic drive failure proceed with caution as the steering has been effected and see your bmw authorized rep," "electrical failure see your bmw authorized rep. Immediately proceed with caution,"passenger restraint fault proceed with caution effecting belt and belt force limiter, stalling at very low and as high rates of speed as high as 70 mph without any warning."sometimes the car logs the errors and many times it doesn't fully that it takes bmw na's computer to access the extended ram in the car to retrieve per bmw na that the dealerships can't.i even have pictures of the errors the car doesn't log so they claim they can't do anything.bmw engineers in germany have been involved as the car refused to reprogram twice for the dealership.this car is compliant w/all recalls per the dealer and has been in the shop over 16 times w/only 70k miles.the dealer and bmw na can't determine the root cause of the problems except to say they think they're being triggered by low voltage and its had 3 batteries at less than 70k miles, isn't driven much, and bmw na nor the dealership can permanently resolve the errors and stalling and/or stop them.bmw na and the dealership have replaced the entire wiring harness at 13k miles, have refused to take the car back after several attempts after qualifying as a lemon under the lemon law since before 10k miles and been given multiple excuses for all of the errors they can't resolve.they keep telling us to bring it back every time, buy an extended warranty at $6k to continually service electrical and stalling/running rough issues they can't fix under original factory warranty.they're not reporting service trips to carfax and refuse to release documentation on the car regarding the problems to us or our attorneys.
Airbag light is on. I am very sure that it is the floor mat pressure sensors for the airbag system.
In 10/17 i bought the above vehicle from private owner.from the time i started driving it to currently, the control display has been showing a passenger airbag and/orseatbeit warning.the current warning reads:"pass. Restraint system.fault in passenger-restriant system affecting airbag, belt tensioner or belt force limiter."the display between the speedometer and tachometer shows a red airbag symbol and a red fasten seatbelt symbol, which do not go off with operation of vehicle.these 2004/2005 bmw 545i had a nhtsa safety recall (08v384000) but certain vins, including mine were not included.i cannot understand why, because clearly not knowing whether your airbag & belt tensioner & belt force limiter are working properly is a safety issue.i am not the only one with this concern, please see at least 10 other people listing this problem with "www.carproblemzoo.com" under bmw 545 i seatbelt problems.my mechanic has tried several times to reset these warnings, but they always come back.nhtsa's job is to protect car owners re realsafety concerns; i ask that you please do this.how would you like to have a passenger in the front seat and not know if airbags and seatbelts will operate properly in the event of a crash?20 thank you.
Same problem everyone else has with passenger side air bag malfunction.$1500+ repair, but will do it again, as it is faulty parts.someone sits down in the passenger seat too hard, and it sets off the warning.
Low speed crash in febuary 2015 airbag malfunction light came on but didn't deploy. This item had been replaced due to recall in 2011 and bmw said i had to pay for seat mat that malfunctioned and to be put in. No passenger in car during impact i was alone. I don't feel that this should be my problem or that i should have to pay for said problem. I believe this is a faulty part and should be covered by bmw and recall didn't fix problem.
Not too long ago i had my car parked on a street on a sunny day. I got in the vehicle and started it and received a message on my idrive saying that there is a passenger restraint system malfunction and a airbag light along with the seatbelt light lit up on the dash. Dealer says that there is no recall for this issue yet online i've read that my model does in fact have a recall for this issue.
The contact owns a 2004 bmw 545i. While driving various speeds, the air bag warning indicator illuminated continuously. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v384000 (air bags). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 81,520.....updated 12/30/15updated 2/23/2016
Drive moderately keeps popping up an service engine after getting bmw to check it an fix it also it won't crank sometimes but the battery an alternator is brand new but after it sit for hours it finally crank up, maybe it's an security issue but it's unnecessary
I purchase this vehicle on 2012, three days after the purchase, i come back to the dealership, because "air bag light its on", two days later when i pick up my car, air bags lights still on, the mechanic said its a sensor. A year later bring the car to another mechanic, who said its "no air bag connected" which scared me because me and my entire family are on risk, what happened if we crash? where its the air bags? they was deployed before in a car accident with a previous owner, but dealership don't tell me nothing about this, they sold me the cars said "its not car accident involved". Now i try to they take his car and pay me back what i pay or just give me another car, but its difficult to talk to this people. I feel as victim of "fraud" if i have the knowledge that this car had a accident before, i don't take this vehicle. Have to be a responsible for this outlaw action. The dealership name its"florida fine cars" located on "21151 nw 2nd avenue- miami gardens, fl 33169." phone "(305) 384-6400. I just need justice in this case please, help me please.
I came back from my summer holiday, and restarted my car. A lot of warnings appears on the odometer. About engine, airbags, steering, tire pressure, and seat belt. (i have checked the tire pressure, it is normal. And i always lock the seat belt before driving). In addition, the navigation screen and radio died. Furthermore, the car lose electricity after it shuts down. After more than 3 hours of shut down, it won't have enough power to re-ignite. I check on nhtsa website that there are three recall issues that my car was included, and related to the issues i am reporting right now. About air bags (08v384000), engine (12e029000), and electrical system (12v126000). But i cannot find out any information by my vin number on nhtsa. It is a used car, i am not sure whether the former user responded the recall before. Even if this car was recalled before, i don't know whether it was fixed properly, and the similar issues would not happen again.
Bmw has refused to fix the issue under recall of the passenger restraint dealing with the seat mat/sensor that develops cracks over time from repeated entry and exit of the vehicle.this issue was a recall and this car is clearly effected by it but bmw says it is not.as the vehicle was just purchased to replace another vehicle that had actually had an accident, the safety related equipment is extremely important.bmw admits there is a recall(id# 76546) but claims this vehicle is not covered.this could effectively end my ownership of any bmw if this issue is not fix promptly.

Transmission jerks and slips.when coming to a stop, the car slams into gear.this could cause a major accident if this occurred during wet or icy road conditions due to breaking traction from wheels and road surface.this is a major concern and after doing some research, thousands of 5 series bmw's have this problem.the result is a defective mechatronics which costs between $5000-$8000 to fix and not covered by bmw or under warranty.
Bare wires inside the headlight housing, these are hid lights made by hella for bmw they are oem. When contacting bmwna they say that's not how they make there lights and blame heat and the car not being maintained at a bmw dealership, well the rest of the wiring on the car is just fine even the wires that come in contact with a high heat producing engine... It's the same exact issue mercedes benz had on the w202 chassis, wires that would degrade at an extremely fast rate. But for headlights that cost well over $1000 each. But my question is what happens when a family is out at night and there headlights malfunction because of something bmw knows about but refuse to take responsibility and said family has a wreck and kills multiple people because of a known problem. This is my second attempt at getting something done the first was contacting bmwna which equaled to insulting someone's knowledge of electrical components. Also the headlights no longer adjust, the angel eyes no longer work bulbs blow as soon as they are replaced and constant warnings that parking lights have a malfunction. Telling someone heat is the cause makes an automotive company kinda look ignorant especially when wires touching an engine are not effected by heat at all and are still 100% flexible and have not lost any of the insulation. You can see some of the wires have liquid electrical tape used, should any vehicle with 119xxx miles have such an issue?

On bmw with the n62 4.4l v8 engine there's an oil leak on the alternator bracket that leaks for a while until it is inspected and found it leaks oil on the steering components i think causing the steering components to deteriorate after a while causing a safety issue. The oilleak eventually happens to all n62 4.4l v8 engines.

My i drive or ccchas malfunctioned.at first the screen would turn on and off or freeze up. Finally the screen went blank.this unit provide the safety information of the vehicle. This unit also provides the communications such as bluetooth and hands free functions. This unit also provides all the service information/basically it like driving a vehicle with out a brain.this seems to be a recurring problem with other bmw owner.
Main problem: vehicle exhibits highly unsafe tendencies of turning off randomly, leaving the driver with no power, no functioning gauges, no functioning lights, and more.cause: faulty alternator and voltage regulator.scenario: on 12/21/2012, a 2004 bmw 545i vehicle with approximately 29,000 miles on its odometer is traveling on a highway driving 70mph, highway is flat and speed is constant with very light traffic.without warning, car completely turns off, all gauges (speed, tachometer, and fuel) revert to "0" position, radio turns off, lights turn off, car immediately slows and has no propulsion power nor speed control at all.brake pedal was not depressed, steering reverted to a very firm feeling.about 10 seconds of coasting later, the vehicle's electronics resume operation.multiple incidents were to occur between 12/21/2012 and 1/29/2013 to varying degrees of severity.on 1/29/2013, the vehicle failed in a similar capacity three times on a 21 mile journey. On 1/30/2013, vehicle failed twice.on 1/31/2013, the bmw 545i vehicle is at an authorized bmw dealer.it is determined the alternator and voltage regulator are defective.electrical power was not consistently being generated nor allocated to vital vehicle computers.these interruptions in power supplies, which last approximately 7-10 seconds, are referred to as brown-outs and they vary in degree of severity.the major cases incapacitated the entire vehicle, shutting down all gauges, lights, and critical safety systems.on 2/1/2013, the bmw 545i was delivered back to the owner with the alternator and voltage regulator replaced.the mileage of the vehicle at the time of repair was only 33,426.note: bmw dealer noted this was a common problem on many of the 5-series models in the 2004 and up year range.
Vehicle slips in an out of 5th and 6th gear when traveling at constant 35 to 40 mph in auto mode and around 60 mph in ds mode. Noticeable oil leaks as well as occasional smoke from tailpipe andvehicle bangs into gear ( while downshifting on occasion) also noticed that the electrical system seems to cut out for a split second while driving. Heads up display and radio illustrates this finding as they shut off for a second. The clock is also behind a few minutes / week because of this.

Electrical wiring in headlights are disintegrating.the shielding is dry rotting and flaking off nearly every wire in both headlights causing them to malfunction during driving.lights will cut off randomly.i'd imagine the wires are shorting out.
Passenger side headlight assembly wire "jacket" is brittle and flaking off, causing malfunctions in parking lamp "halo" due to exposed copper wires. Also, high-beam halogen light wiring has exposed copper wiring. Wires get hot to the touch and cause a "passenger parking lamp malfunction" to appear inside the car. Problem seems like it is a fire hazard to say the least. Many online forum members have expressed the same issue. I attempted to contact both the headlight assembly manufacturer, hella, as well as the car manufacturer, bmw of north america; both companies did not take responsibility. Problem expands over many models for several years. Please investigate. I have even heard of headlamps catching fire, causing substantial damage to the vehicle. Even if the consumer decided to purchase a new headlight assembly for ~$1,500, the wiring will likely still cause the same issue a few years down the road. The headlamp bulbs are high voltage xenon gas bulbs that have over 20k volts feeding them. This is a huge safety issue!

Valve cover gasket leak, timing chain cover gasket leak, valve stem leak.
When beginning to drive, the vehicle would slam to the point where i thought i was rear ended.i took the car to my mechanic and he said it was the transmission and the fix was costly.continues to do this at times and will also do a smaller scale slam when slowing to a stop light or stop sign.
The contact owns a 2004 bmw 545i. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle overheated. The contact stated stated that the pump cool pipe was making the vehicle overheat. The contact stated that the vehicle was diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.

Intermittent harsh 2-1 downshift (jolt)when coming to a stop with lightbrake application.jolts and/or jerks felt whenreaccelerating after coasting.judder when gently accelerating(most noticeable at an enginespeed below 2,000 rpm).
The contact owns a 2004 bmw 545i. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, he attempted to accelerate and a large cloud of smoke emitted from the exhaust. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the valve stem seals had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 94,000.

The headlamp bulbs are high voltage xenon gas bulbs that have over 20k volts feeding them. This is a huge safety issue!
When driving between 35-40 miles per hour the car has a very bad jerk like it doesn't know what gear it wants to be in. And sometimes it feels like the car is getting hit from behind with how hard other jerks are.
I purchased this vehicle thinking that it would be a safe car for my family and friends. The transmission seems to be slipping and an excessively harsh 2-1 downshift occurs when decelerating to a stop. Also, transmission "bangs" into gear when accelerating from a full or a "rolling" stop. This occurred several timeson a daily basis. One time in specific i was driving with my 4 year old niece and it caused her to become alarmed as well as injure her neck. Please let me know what can be done, the dealership is saying that they will charge me an ridiculousamount of money to upgrade the software for the transmission.i strongly feel that this should be a "no charge" repair or fix seeing that no car should behave in this manner. Please let me know what can be done, as i am no longer driving the car and taking the bus in fear of causing any injury to my loved ones.
When beginning to drive, the vehicle would slam to the point where i thought i was rear ended.i took the car to my mechanic and he said it was the transmission and the fix was costly.continues to do this at times and will also do a smaller scale slam when slowing to a stop light or stop sign.
This transmission is slipping aggressively. It happens on up-shift 1-2and downshift 2-1.it happens like 4 to 5 times in a week.also sometimes i get a big slam on both up-shift and downshift...when this happens, the transmission malfunction error message pops up and reduces my movement to safe-mode, unless i shut the engine off and restart the engine. If you take time to go on bmw forums and blogs, everyone complain about this issue with this 5 series...please do something.. The passenger airbag restraint error pops up even when someone is not seating on the passenger side..this needs to be looked into.. Almost every bmw owner has this passenger issue...
Intermittent harsh 2-1 downshift (jolt)when coming to a stop with lightbrake application.jolts and/or jerks felt whenreaccelerating after coasting.judder when gently accelerating(most noticeable at an enginespeed below 2,000 rpm).
Engine stalling while driving vehicle, unable to restart vehicle after the stall. Loss of power steering and brake power assist when vehicle stalls while driving. Engine stalls very periodically after a short period of operation. Took vehicle to dealer 3 times and were unable to pinpoint the problem. Dealer replaced battery and electrical wiring to fix problem but problem still continued. Also a brand new alternator was replaced and still same problems arose. Message center would display "transmission fault" drive moderately.
My car has the passenger restraint system warning everytime i start my car. The air bag recall is by takata is for the 2003 545i model. My car was manufactured in sep of 2003 with those takada airbags.

The contact owns a 2004 bmw 545i. The contact stated that the driver seat warmer, overheated and burned the contacts clothing. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the heated element was fractured causing the drivers seat to overheat. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000.
The contact owns a 2004 bmw 545i. The contact stated that the driver engaged the driver's side seat warmer. Several moments later, they noticed smoke emitting from the seat. The driver immediately moved off the roadway and stopped the vehicle. After exiting the vehicle and inspecting the failure, the driver discovered a large burn in the driver's seat. The driver waited several minutes before continuing to drive the vehicle. The dealer was contacted and advised the contact to have the vehicle towed to them for diagnosis. The manufacturer was contacted as well, but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were approximately 90,000.
The contact owns a 2004 bmw 545i. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an increase in braking distance when the brakes were applied. The contact also mentioned that brake fluid was leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the brake pump, brake booster pump seal, and the oil pressure sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 121,000 and the current mileage was 122,000.updated 11/20/14*lj

The contact owns a 2004 bmw 540 five i. The contact stated that oil was leaking into the brakes. The vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 10v446000 (service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum). After repairs, oil continued to leak into the brakes. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage 98,000.
The battery died so i got a new one. After reinstalling it, all the dash lights came on. The active steering came on also. After driving the car off the lot, i realized my steering wheel was turned to the left but i was going straight. Now i can't figure out how to fix this issue.
