It seem all the bmw models have the same issue, i got lock in in my 1999 540i also i have a 2004 bmw z4 the same situation, to get out of my 540 i have to put down my window and using the key i was able to unlock the car, my pregnant wife have to climb out of a window because she freak out when got lock in. The dealer cant figure it out i reolace all the locking actuators and the same problem, also theres a double lock in bmw but neather dealer cant tell how to remove it.
Door fail to unlock from the inside.accuator defect. Electronic locking works ok, but manual unlock does not. This creates a very dangerous situation if you needed to leave the vehicle in an emergency.instinct is to open via the handle which does not work.if the electronics died, then the door would not be able to be unlocked and passengers would be trapped inside.bmw charged $2000.00 to fix this issue, which i consider absurd for a safety issue.looking on the internet this is a well known failure point in bmw's . The failure of doors to open manually was persistent and applied to all 4 doors.
