Air bag sensor mat in the passebger seat is cracked. Therefor the airbag will not deploy in a crash. According to my research this is a very common problem in bmw e60 sedans. There has been a previous recall to bmw's in earlier years. Why is it not a recall now? obviously this is a critical component of the safety system and should be recalled and fixed by the manufacturer.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 535i. The contact stated that the navigational system advised that the front passenger restraint and air bag was malfunctioning. The dealership advised that the vin was not included in the manufacturer's air bag improvement campaign. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The vehicle was not repaired.the vin was not available. The failure mileage was manufacturer 88, 8000.
The north american bmw had recalled the 2004-2006 bmws with the faulty passenger seat occupancy mat, as they had a recurring problem of failing. Bmw stated that they "improved the quality of materials, and fixed the problem", but it seems that other bmw owners still have the same problem including myself. My bmw about 4 months ago had the passenger seat occupancy warning light come on, and i am very disappointed that they "fixed" the issue, but most likely instead of actually taking the time to improve their product, they probably just slapped a new label on it and called it a day. And what even more annoying is the cost of replacement parts, which alone cost upwards of $900. You would think that for $900 the past wouldn't have a propensity to break. The newer models that still have this problem should be covered under recall or at least have a reduced price to compensate for the poor craftsmanship of a product known to fail.
2008 bmw 5-series vehicles have the same issue as recalled 2004 - 2006 bmw 5-series vehicles in regards to the front passenger seat occupant detection mat malfunctioning.the seat occupancy mat is faulty on 2007 & 2008 models as well.the consequence is that the passenger air bag will not deploy even in the event of a severe crash.why were 2007 & 2008 bmws not recalled already...?!?!?what is being done to recall 2007 & 2008 bmw models that use the same parts as 2004 - 2006 models...?!?!?
It says restraint system malfunction. . i'm scared to put my children in the car..this is ridiculous and there are plenty more problems. .!!!! there needs to be recall before someone is killed.
My 2008 bmw 535i is suffering from the same passenger restraint system malfunction error as the earlier bmw models.nhtsa information i've read indicates that the passenger airbag will not deploy in the event of a substantial front end collision, which poses a significant risk to passengers.bmw only recalled model years 2004 - 2006, however.this is not an isolated incident to those years.my 2008 bmw 535i throws the error every time i drive with or without a passenger.both the passenger side seat belt light and the passenger side airbag light remain illuminated any time the key is in the ignition.what is being done about more recent bmw models?
Pressing the shift (transmission) selector into the reverse position, causes the shifters electrical ribbon cable to get pinched and the lights in the shifter and sport button fail to work anymore.repositioning of this ribbon cable or using a different insulation method would solve this problem.
While driving about 35 mph on a busy street at rush hour i prepared to make a right turn by indicating.the fast turn single flashing started and the computer system in my 2008 535i said rear turn single malfunction. I slowed to my the turn and the person behind me slammed on their brakes and swerved to avoid hitting me and almost crashed into the person next them.i didn't realize why this happened, so i pulled over to check my lighting system and realized that the right rear lights weren't functioning properly.i opened the rear brake compartment and smelled burning melted plastic.i disconnected the brake light connector and found that it was melted. I searched online and found that there is a nhtsa recall for this problem for my year car.when i went to beverly hills bmw i was turned away.they told me that there wasn't a recall that covered my car.they were very rude about the whole and basically told me that i'd have to deal with myself and cover the costs. After more research, i have found many complaints about this online:http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=571079appears to have been going on for a long time.but, bmw has been avoiding the safety issue!!!please file a complaint and get this safety issue resolved before someone dies as a result.
Driving a 2008 bmw 535i at highway speed, approximately 50 mph, when, with no warning, large red warning light appears, "engine overheated - turn off engine."light came on suddenly and engine died to 5 mph and then stopped running. Barely able to get to the side of the road and in great danger from trucks bearing down on a mountainous curving california highway. Discovered the problem was an immediate failure of the electric water pump which causes sudden engine loss placing the driver in grave danger. This problem has been reported by many drivers to bmw (see online forums)and they know this is a serious problem but have not issued recall notices on the electric water pumps on their vehicles. They previously issued recalls on the high pressure fuel pumps but this also requires a recall as the car abruptly dies at highway speed.
I just had to have my water pump and thermostat replaced on my 2008 535i. I was told that it happens so often, they keep the part on the shelf! are there really no recalls on this problem?? also, my right tail light shorted out. I asked the shop why...he said this also happens all the time. The wires fry! not cool.i really think someone needs to investigate this. When i was told they replace them all of the time, i was shocked. That cost me $1102.62 to fix. The guy who towed me said he makes several trips a week for people with the same problem.
As i was driving home on the highway my engine overheated very quickly.it went into serious limp mode and slowed down to under 30mph in the middle lane of a wide freeway.i let it cool for over 20 minutes, and it overheated within 1 minute of turning it back on.i had to have it towed to my mechanic and he determined the water pump had failed.i started doing some research online and it turns out to be a very common issue.i read many many complaints of people having electrical water pump failures before 75,000 miles.without a water pump you must have the car towed and its a very expensive fix.bmw/mini have had many cars with problematic water pumps in the past and they never do anything about it.this issue needs to result in a recall.
Vehicle was previously driven the day before drove perfect no problems, the day after the vehicle when you put in drive or reverse it would automatically go back to park on it's own and would not move the vehicle was parked in the drive way as normal. I had vehicle towed to bmw they diagnosed as the mechatronic sleeve needed replacing they charged me 1300 dollars my wife picked the car up and drove 50 miles and the car started doing the same previous behavior i contacted bmw they had me to tow back to their dealership a second time both tows cost me 125 dollars each the car was then diagnosed as needing a 9000 transmission and i was told the previous repair that i paidfor would not be credited toward the new transmission i'm outraged.my service advisor is john ard at tom williams bmw in irondale alabama.
I ordered new light bulbs to change out my halo angel bulb lights (running parking lamps) .which said they were out on my screen inside of the bmw . When i twisted off the housing cap in the back ,the wiring inside of my headlight housing which turns on my parking lights left and right is totally degraded and flaked off ,the copper cables were touching everywhere .i read this is because germany use biodegradable material but this is a very dangerous fire hazard for driving on the highways and road in florida . We as 5 series owners for these years need a recall of new harness with better wiring .even if you buy a new housing it will do the same thing in 4 years guaranteed . You would have to find some one to rewire it with the same cables ford uses so it can last 20+ years . Please fix.
Right rear brake light failure indicator on dash board turned on. Inspecting the light bulbs, all seemed to be in working condition. Fuses were also good. Found the ground wire pin and socket on the bulb holder burned out pretty severely.problem appears to be intermittent as the indicator would turn on and off before eventually staying on permanently.also, indicator would show turn signal failure at first, then brake light, then right back up light, then all three.eventually it settled in on brake light only.potential for accidents related to turn signals not working and warning other drivers of braking and/or turning.also potential for an electrical fire beginning in the rear of the vehicle close to where the fuel filler cap is located.checking online forums for a repair, it appears to be a common problem, and the subject of an earlier recall on other bmw models.
My 2008 bmw 535i headlight went out and i took it to a certified mechanic to change the headlight bulb, he took out the headlight and shown to me the wiring in both headlights have flaked off and had presented a fire hazard situation which caused the fuse the blew. I researched the bmw forums and found lots of people with the same issue, hence, it is not an outlier. I contacted bmw usa and they refused to remedy the situation. I was told by them that the vehicle is out of warranty and that the vehicle mileage was past the headlight wiring should not go bad in 8 years and they were rude and told me they will not pay for it. I also learnt that most of these headlight wires in the e60 flaked off within 50k miles and are not discovered until a short or blown bulb. Hella (the manufacturer of the headlight) said it is not their problem since the make the headlights to bmw specifications.
New battery install caused power surge damaging electrical system.
Driving family down the highway around 65 mph. I loose all power in the cabin. The car starts throwing all warning lights, abs, steering, sway control, transmition, etc. Engine still running would not shift into neutral had to use e brake to pull over then it wanted to keep going had to turn car off to stop it. Called tow truck sent family home.
Wires inside headlights have insulation crumbling off.fire risk.so many bmw's have this problem.a clear issue that bmw knows about.
While driving, the entire electrical panel [speedometer, radio, display screen, etc.] begin to click on/off each time reappearing with appeared to be everything but english. Soon to follow, i received a warning light indicating "engine overheated", "engine power was being reduced", and "to stop the vehicle" when possible. Unfortunately, i was in the middle of traffic and could not immediately pull off to the shoulder. The vehicle didn't travel very far before complete engine power was lost due to the possibility of "fire risk" as indicated on the panel.
Insulation crumbling on all wiring inside both headlight (driver and passenger sides) units resulting in malfunctioning headlights, running lights, and marker lights. Unfortunately, a common problem and a huge safety concern. Issue is exacerbated but not caused by heat.insulation on wiring to navigation, radio/media player, climate control unit, or ccc (car communication computer), crumbling causing malfunctions to occur in all the above sections. I suspect much of the car's wiring to be in similar, poor condition.i have read that many european cars from the '80s, '90s through the first ten or so years of the 21st century used a soy based, biodegradable wire insulation as part of a "green movement". This early implementation of said wire does not last much longer than 10 years, much less than that when exposed to heat.please see:https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2132684-headlight-wire-jackets-just-flake-offhttps://5series.net/forums/e60-discussion-2/headlight-wiring-outer-jacket-deteriorating-139655/http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/off-topic-discussion/330631-can-you-believe-bmw-still-using-biodegradeable-wiring-insulation.htmlhttp://www.mercedesdefects.com/2008/04/wire-harness-defect.htmlhttps://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-cayenne-forum/733521-brittle-wiring-insulation.htmlthere are many, many more threads such as these on the web. There are thousands of cars on the road like this. The manufacturers keep producing vehicles with this type of wiring. It's wonderful that the insulation degrades. It's absurd to start biodegrading when the car is just five or so years old.

Engine malfunction-driving with reduced power notice.have previously been told that "service engine" light and shaking and stalling during acceleration was due to ignition coils.i have had those replaced and after replacing those the water pump failed and left me stranded on interstate....vehicle shut down while driving 70 mph.was able to coast to safety.now engine malfunction.from looking at recall information it appears that i should have been notified to issues with water pump and replacement but was never contacted.bmw should be held accountable to customer who paid for service that was obviously not the real issue.
Driving if freeway 65 mph, all the sudden car stalled lost power i drove it off the freeway the steering wheel was very hard to turn, try to startup the car did not start called aaa for tow truck after 15 min i start the car, start fined and no problem, to bmw usa made appointment with bmw dealer 4 days later was available for service, the day before my appointment, after dropped my daughter the car stalledin middle of the street cause bad traffic called tow truck again waited after 15 min startedeverything was fined but i tow it to bmw dealer to check it. Idrive should fuel pump once flashed. This is very dangerous .
Drove the car home from work the day before. Went out the next day to start the vehicle and it was shaking and vibrating tremendously. I had it towed to the bmw dealership that stated the injectors were bad and needed to be replaced for $1,700.00. They then called me back and stated the dm e was also bad and the codes didn't pick it up in the beginning. They then asked for an additional $1,800.00. I picked up my car after repairs and did not make it home before the check engine light came on and lost power. Took it back to the bmw dealership who then stated it was the turbos that was bad and it would be an additional $5,600.!!!! i am not pleased with the 535i. I have wanted a bmw all of my life and i finally get one and it's been a nightmare. The water pump went out two months after i purchased it for $1,700.00! the bmw 535i has been one headache after the next and i feel like i was sold a used lemon of a car!!! i bought it from a certified bmw dealership!!! what a rip off!!! i called bmw of north america and they refused to offer assistance with repairs and so did the dealership!!! i feel like i've been robbed!!!

I was driving home stopped at a red light , then turned green went to accelerate car took off and lost all power would not move pressing accelerator and 2 semi trucks coming real fast from cross traffic almost killed me light turned red for me and green for semi trailers with no time to exit car.
While driving at 45 mph, yellow warning light indicating the car was overheating came on. A few seconds later the light turned red and indicated to stop the vehicle and shut the engine off. Vehicle lost all power and i came to a stop. It was towed to the shop and i was informed that the water pump and thermostat needed to be replaced adding that it was a common failure in the bmw. Vehicle had recently been serviced at bmw dealer.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw model 535i. While driving 50 mph, an unknown warning light illuminated and indicated that the vehicle was overheating. In addition, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v521000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000.
Vehicle loss powerwhile driving on hwy and idle rough. And check engine light came on.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 535i. The contact stated while driving at 30 mph, when warning message of "engine hot and drive moderately" was illuminated on the instructional panel. The contact was able to park on the side of the road and then saw smoke exiting the front passenger side of the hood. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with a bottle of water she had in hand. No fire or police report was filed. The contact was currently waiting to have the vehicle towed to her residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired as of yet. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 138,000.
Currently having issues with a wastegate rattle on turbos. Rough engine idle. Having multiple misfires, and stuck open fuel injectors. Causing tailpipes to excessively smoke (white color) while going into limp mode could not go past 20mph and surging. Issues happen when stationary and while driving. Had to get vehicle towed home.'fuel injector recall 16e-a01'hpfp recall- could not find number 'turbo recall- could not find number
2008 bmw 535i @70 mph, , when, with no warning, large red warning light appears, "engine overheated - turn off engine." light came on suddenly and engine died ,. Barely able to get to the side of the road. Discovered the problem was an immediate failure of the electric water pump which causes sudden engine loss placing me@ danger. This problem has been reported by many drivers to bmw (see online forums) and they know this is a serious problem but have not issued recall notices on the electric water pumps on their vehicles. The complaint is reported on every forum regarding the car, as well as on this site. Please advise whatit takes to reach the level of a recall.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 535i. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, smoke emitted from the outside rear of the vehicle and the engine coolant warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician informed the contact that the rear passenger's side tail light wires had failed and were completely burned. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id numbers: 13v407000 (exterior lighting) and 12e029000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the vin was not included in either of the recalls. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
While driving on the highway, the car indicated an engine malfunction and within seconds the message changed to engine overheating and that engine is operating at reduced output.it also advised to stop the car immediately and call the nearest bmw dealer.i had the car towed to a bmw dealer and they identified issue as a failed waterpump. The water pump was replaced for about $1,400.3 months later, a similar issue occurred where engine was having issues and the message said that the engine is operating at reduced speed but that it is safe to continue.took the car back to dealer and they could not find any issues; but just to be safe (whatever that means) they reprogrammed the battery and the bill was $126.again, with no specific issue identified or resolved.
Driving my dad to er for medical emergency and driving within speed limit. Car begins to slow down on own. Could not go more than 5mph when car shut down and stated engine overheated. We were stalled on busy highway. Once able to get someone to transport my father to er, had to get car towed. Water pump had to be replaced for no fault of mine. My sister also has bmw 2008 3 series and same thing happened to her yesterday---stranded on side of road--water pump had to be changed. Tow truck driver stated he is towing bmw's all the time with malfunctioning water pumps. This really needs to be looked into before something bad happens to stranded drivers.
Engine losses power while driving on highway, engine malfunction light comes on with warnings of engine reduced power.took it to bmw fremont, they found the vanos solenoid valves exhaust faulty, replaced both solenoids and performed an oil service with fuel injection/induction service. This time bmw na paid 85% of the bill as a one time goodwill!
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 5351. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shuddered without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The contact was informed of a misfire cylinder # 2. The vehicle was not repaired. An unknown dealer was contacted and stated the vehicle was not subjected to a recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.
The electric water pump failed. The system did not show any visible warning on the dashboard at time of failure even though the ecu registered a failure code internally when it detected that the pump had stopped working (as compared to mileage/timestamps from diagnostic codes at the time of failure). Some time later suddenly the system displayed an engine overheat warning and lost power in the middle of the road. Driving at about 35-40mph on a local highway.

I drove to work and the engine light was on that morning.the car drove as normal. I was driving home from work at approximately 6:30 p.m on a busy interstate in the middle lane traveling approx. 65 mph when thecar began to shake and lose power. It automatically shifted into neutral and lose power. I had to maneuver to the shoulder in heavy traffic with no power. After turning on my hazard lights, i was able to safely get to the shoulder. The car was towed home. After a few days, we were able to drive it to the repair shop (not bmw) and was initially told that sensors were bad. Replaced them and a few days later, the same engine warning light came on again. This time i was told that it was bad injectors and that the fuel is burning to rich.bmw had previously replaced 2 of the injectors about 2 years ago. The car only had approximately 35k miles at that time and needed injectors replaced. Why they only replaced 2, is incomprehensible. Thankfully, the car was under warranty at that time, unfortunately for me, it is no longer under warranty and now i have to foot the $2k bill to have them replaced.bmw should be held accountable to its owners and replace these injectors since there are so many reported problems. There is obviously an issue with the injectors.these cars are not inexpensive to purchase and it is unfair to be stuck with thesehigh repair bills when there is a know problem and reported by so many bmw owners.first, it was my water pump, and now the fuel injectors.this is my second bmw. I previously owned the 328 and it had lifters replaced after about 8 months.i will not purchase another bmw - probably go with lexus!shame on bmw for not taking ownership of this problem..
Bmw clearly states that this vehicle had a recall on the fuel injectors and related components and when the recall was completed it states that a emblem to mark completed is placed under the hood. Although, this is not on my vehicle nor does it show being completed on any type of information. Bmw is very secretive about all issues on the vehicles that they manufacturer. In fact, most all bmw dealerships service departments do their very best too make you pay for non issues and will not repair what is really found to be the issue. If needed, i can give you at least two that i am very familiar with about this matter.
While driving, the car stopped accelerating and a transmission malfunction warning came up on. The fan on the engine also came on very loud and there was lots of exhausted coming out. I drove slowly to a shop. Once at the shop they stated they could not get the car to shift into gear. They did diagnostics on it and said it was a shift module that needed replaced, i had it replaced and it did not fix the problem. They then said it needed a reset that could only be done at the bmw dealership. Bmw performed the reset and that did not fix the problem. Bmw diagnosed that the transmission pump was out and a $9k transmission needed to be replaced. The car continues to not be drivable, not stay in gear. It has also started spitting out milky substance from the exhaust like the coolant is leaking into engine. In addition the paint on the hood and roof of the car has become dull for no apparent reason, like it has reacted to a high amount of heat from the engine. A car with only 132,000 miles on it should not need a transmission replaced and the paint should not be wearing like it is. There was coolant recall on all models except the 535i, this coolant problem could have been what caused the transmission to go out very prematurely. The car is nownot drivable, will not stay in gear. I believe there is something wrong with the car that is due to a failure or malfunction of the car itself and not wear.
We were stopped and waiting at a red light then pressed accelerator when the light turned green. The car starts moving then suddenly loses all power within seconds while entering a very busy freeway onramp. After losing power and car is dead, a warning message appears. Warning says car is "overheated and to stop, danger of burns with hot water pump." car had not been driven for 2 hours prior to incident. There was absolutely no warning before losing all power and control of the car. Had to have car towed to dealer. Dealer replaced the water pump and did not explain the sudden loss of power or lack of warning. The car has had multiple problems with the high pressure fuel pump. The car also has had several warnings of sudden power loss that the dealer is unable to diagnose. The sudden stop on the freeway caused us to be nearly rear-ended a few times before the police came.
During highway traveling upon acceleration to change lanes the car began to lose power and stall. A engine malfunction light came/reduced power. I had to drive the car about 45 mph because it began to shake as if it was going to cut off. Dealership advised that is was not the hpfp (high pressure fuel pump). I was told that all six fuel injectors needed to be replaced. This car can be very dangerous to drive on the highway because of its unreliability!
Driving at 30mph,engines power suddenly reduced, engine malfunction light comes on . Took the car to bmw fremont, they found the intake camshaft position sensors faulty.they replaced camshaft sensors, pulse generator,o-ring and torque screw.as advised by the service agent had to do an oil, oilfilter change and fuel injection service to prevent default on the warranty of parts put in. As the car was out of the warranty period(even though it has a very low mileage of 18760) so had to pay $1235 out of pocket.at 19350miles the similar issue came up, took it back to bmw fremont, they found faults stored in dme,2a7c variable camshaft timing control intake cold start 1 time not currently present, cleared faults and customer to monitor.
My car is stalling while i'm driving." engine malfunction reduce power " the code is ( p 3090 ) .. It's very unsafe .i don't have power to move it to the side of the road safely.. I drive mainly interstatesi 75 and i475to macon georgia.
Drove car for appx 1 mile.stopped for 10mins at a store.when i started it back up, a fan was louder than usual.i then recieved a high heat warning telling me to drive moderately or risk over heating.after a few more miles, i recieved a warning to stop the vehicleimmediately due to excessive heat and not to open the hood for risk of burns.the vehicle slowed to a crawl.luckily i was a few blocks from home. Next morning i took it to a non-bmw service center who said that the water pump malfunctioned ($950).there was a recall for certain 2008 models for the water pump.i confirmed with bmw that this model was not included.based on similar complaints online, i believe it should be.
The head light wiring has flaked off and caused a shortage in my headlights.
Wire insulation inside the headlight housing is falling away leaving bare wires. Currently only affecting the drl. Searching bmw forums - this is not an uncommon problem. This is a dangerous condition being that the headlights could fail at any time. Replacement is prohibitively expensive at more than $700 per unit. With the number of complaints that i have seen in on-line forums, i feel this should warrant a safety related re-call. Thank you in advance for your time.
Headlight almost caught on fire. Started car and as i was backing out of garage i smelled a burning smell and then received a drivers side bulb out error indication. When i returned to the house i looked at the headlight and noticed the inner lens had fallen away inside the housing. I began to examine the headlight closer and discovered a lot of wires that were basically rotten. Meaning there was no insulation what so ever to protect against a short if the wires made contact. I examined the passenger side headlight only to find the exact same condition with the wiring, large amounts of bare unprotected wires.further investigation showed theentire inner lens became so hot that the plastic welds melted and also the metal housing causing the lens to fall away.i contacted bmw na and was told on the phone they were aware of the problem but could not cover the repair because the car is out of warranty.this situation could have easily led to a full vehicle fire had i not inspected the problem and attempted to repair with electrical tape. I cannot get to all of the bare wires because they are inside the head light.the cost of replacing both headlight is ~ $3000.00parts plus around 250 in labor charges. Sadly if this is not properly discovered it could lead to a total destruction from a fire in the vehicle and even death if the driver was to become a asphyxiated from the fumes while traveling on the highway.

I have a 2008 535i (e60) w/55k miles, in otherwise perfect condition with no aftermarket alterations. While driving car in the highway, i had a parking light alert/error that my parking light was out. After arriving to my home i inspected my headlight assembly. The angel eyes on both left and right headlight showed completely bare wires on both sides of the bulb connectors, on both sides of the car. I found flaking insulation and bare wires everywhere the inner sealed headlamp assembly!!!. The more i touched the wires, the more insulation flaked off, almost like a powder. I've never seen anything like it. Definitely a fire hazard!!!!
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 535i. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the turn signal warning light illuminated as the passenger's rear turn signal and reverse light failed to illuminate. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
Wires inside headlights have insulation crumbling off.fire risk.so many bmw's have this problem.a clear issue that bmw knows about.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 535i. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the rear driver's side brakes failed accompanied by the illumination of the warning indicators. The failure was recurring. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 13v407000 (exterior lighting) but did not confirm if the vehicle was included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
Wiring for daytime running light melted all wiring insulation off.i got a shock while replacing the bulb before i realized there was no insulation left.to replace the light fixure it is in excess of $1,500 each and both have all insulation melted off their wires.the bulbs do not stay on and we're having difficulty getting a valid nh inspection sticker.
Warning of rear light and rear right blinker malfunction.
Please fix.
The wire insulation inside the headlamp housing becomes brittle and can short out.they can flicker or go out.if both left and right experience a short, a driver can be left driving at night without headlights.this can result in deadly accidents.this has happened to my rh headlight.the issue has long been known and complaints are posted all over bmw forums.replacement headlamps are in excess of us$900 each leaving many car owners to go with defective headlamps. I was driving my car tonight when the rh lamp went out for a few moments due to the wiring short.i can only imagine how it would have been if both went out.i don't have photos or video evidence.
Driving on highway, panel indicates that the temperature is high, and advises to drive moderately. Pulled over one lane.before being able to pull over completely, a new indication shows on the panel, instructing that the engine is overheated. Vehicle quickly powers down in the middle of the highway.unable to pull off to the side before the car is traveling under 20 mph.limped to the road side with other cars buzzing by at dangerously different speeds as compared to my own.i was finally able to pull off to the side of the highway while going less than 5 mph, causing other drivers to slam their brakes and honk profusely at me.the deceleration happened very quickly.with lots of traffic, this created a dangerous and difficult situation to manage in the middle of rush hour.the fact that a crash did not occur is a matter of luck.after pulling off to the side and letting the car cool for several minutes, i was able to restart and drive slowly, long enough to get off the highway at the next exit, about 500 feet away.called for a tow truck. Car is now at dealer.
My car is stalling while i'm driving." engine malfunction reduce power " the code is ( p 3090 ) .. It's very unsafe .i don't have power to move it to the side of the road safely.. I drive mainly interstatesi 75 and i475to macon georgia.
The warning light came on.the vehicle information system said the fuel pump was malfunctioning.i took it to the dealer and they said the fuel pump failed.
Smell of gas fumes in car when started car. Gas and fumes increased as car idled. Infant also in car. Began feeling lightheaded so had to roll down windows to make it home. Later in evening entire garage was consumed with gas fumes. Sent car to shop. Found leaking fuel linewith no fault of my own.
I was driving my vehicle about 45 mphwhen instrument cluster warning lamps can on and my car lost power and stall while i was drive . Luckily i was able to avoid a crash and coast the car to safe side road until the car came to a complete stop. I tried to restart the vehicle but it will run for few seconds and die, however i wasn't able to restart my car.
Hpfp is going bad engine light comes onlong crank start
I was driving home stopped at a red light , then turned green went to accelerate car took off and lost all power would not move pressing accelerator and 2 semi trucks coming real fast from cross traffic almost killed me light turned red for me and green for semi trailers with no time to exit car.
Check engine light came on and car started shaking violently. It happened as soon as i took a corner and hit the gas and lasted until i turned the car off. Very rough idle.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 535i. While driving approximately 60 mph, the fuel pump failed and the engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was pulled over to the shoulder and towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that both of the vehicle's fuel pumps were replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer and the fuel pump was replaced again due to a defective manufacturer's part. The failure mileage was 60,000. Updated 01/25/2017*ctupdated 6/28/18
While driving on freeway at 70 mph, the vehicle began to lose power in heavy traffic.i noticed on computer screen engine malfunction-reduced power.so, i manuvered to get to outside shoulder lane, and stopped the vehicle.it was sputtering at the time, and i turned the vehicle off for a few minutes.and then started it again and the problem had cleared itself, so i proceeded to my home.when i got home, i checked on the computer for online information, and saw a recall notice for this vehicle because of high pressure fuel pump failure, safety hazzard.the car was purchased last year from a dealer with only 40,000 miles on it, and at that time the dealer said, "the old owner traded it in on a new vehicle." so, i have no record if this problem was recalled through this 1st owner or not?it acted exactly as the safety complaint explained, the loss of power with engine malfunction.i was fortunate to get off the freeway to a safe place to stop, with lack of power. It was strange to say the least, and the vehicle now has 45,000 miles on the odometer.(i looked up on the site for recalls and put in the vin number, and the indication came back, no recall on this vehicle.it is ironic that this is the same type of incident that happened to cause major problems, enough to have an abc safety recall special, and i experience the same type of event that many others had.please advise me of my next procedure to not experience this again.troubled driver7/1/2016
I was driving home stopped at a red light , then turned green went to accelerate car took off and lost all power would not move pressing accelerator and 2 semi trucks coming real fast from cross traffic almost killed me light turned red for me and green for semi trailers with no time to exit car.
As soon as i hit the start button, a second later, - jolt or clunk - it's not happened all starts. Some starts with noise some doesn't.it sounds like its from the gearbox but when outside sounds like its from the diff area. Occasionally the car even rocks.the intensity of the clunk varies every start. Some very light, some heard very loud hard. It happen when it's in parked.shift gear and drive is normal no noise or anything...
While driving on a rural highway to work the car shutdown completly. I had the car towed to the mechanic for a diagnotic check. The car needed alternator and water pump. I called bmw because there is a recall on the water pump on my vehicle. The customer service rep stated that recalls are vendor specific. That does not make since to me since cars are made on an assembly line.
Pressing the shift (transmission) selector into the reverse position, causes the shifters electrical ribbon cable to get pinched and the lights in the shifter and sport button fail to work anymore.repositioning of this ribbon cable or using a different insulation method would solve this problem.
2008 bmw 5-series vehicles have the same issue as recalled 2004 - 2006 bmw 5-series vehicles in regards to the front passenger seat occupant detection mat malfunctioning.the seat occupancy mat is faulty on 2007 & 2008 models as well.the consequence is that the passenger air bag will not deploy even in the event of a severe crash.why were 2007 & 2008 bmws not recalled already...?!?!?what is being done to recall 2007 & 2008 bmw models that use the same parts as 2004 - 2006 models...?!?!?
While driving under speed limit of 50mph on expressway, had to slam brakes to prevent hitting a red light runner. My 12year old son was in the rear left passenger seat, with seat belt on, was thrown forward but used his hands to cushion the impact. Luckily he suffered no injuries except for the scare. On checking the seat belt ,it was found to behave a defective latch. Took it to bmw fremont for inspection, they too found the seat belt latch defective and ordered a new one.the car is used mostly for work commute hence the low mileage of 21250 for a nearly six year old car and rarely has any rear passengers, therefore the seat belt defect must have been there on production. We are very lucky to find the defective seat belt in a minor incident, if it was a major accident my child or any anyone in that seat could have beenseriously injured or worse. Reported the incident to bmw customer relations officer, so far only sympathies were offered.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 535i. The contact stated that when the front passenger side seat was occupied, the passenger restraint malfunction warning light illuminated. In addition, the passenger seat belt light failed to disengage when an occupant was properly secured with a seat belt. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the failure mileage was 98,000.

Tip in as it is called, lag in the response time from when you step on the gas pedal till the car actually takes off. Also passenger side seat sensor sensing someone is there when they are not causing the fasten seat belt error to contantly go off.

The active steering stops working without warning, dramatically changing the handling of the car.it randomly starts & stops working.the dealer first denied that there was a problem, then after 3 visits "fixed" it with updated software, but the problem persists.i have gone off the road, but not hit anything...yet.
2008 535i power steering pump at 49,560 miles.i fluid dripping (brownish-reddish) on my garage floor and looked under the car and noticed leak developed under the car engine left side, sipped thru the under carriage cover plate. I contacted bmw dealership, set up appointment for service analysis.i was told by the service rep and his master mechanic that they could not find any visible leakage and could be "just from another vehicle parked on the spot before and just "top off all fluids". I insisted that the drips was on my garage cleanfloor and un-satisfied with the answer.i told the service rep that i will e-mail him a picture i took of the cars under carriage showing the fluid dripping.after an hour, he called and admitted that the picture help them to "trouble-shoot" and they un-install the under carriage cover plate and found a leak on the power steering pump (part cost $1,250.00 not including labor, $1,630.00 total) and need to be replaced. Fortunately it's all covered under warranty.this could have caused total loss of vehicle and cause accident or even lives.
The car pulls hard to the right and now shakes above 20mph.
Copious amounts of smoke are released upon start and now it smokes even worse no matter what. It used to stop but not anymore. So many people have a problem with this. I noticed my car couldn't accelerate and then smoke started coming everywhere and then it ran ok but as soon as i got home my car smoked and smoked so much i was barely able to get into a spot

Car reduced power, shakes and will not run anymore. Is so unsafe to be driving this specially in the fwy very scary.

Car reduced power, shakes and will not run anymore. Is so unsafe to be driving this specially in the fwy very scary.

The contact owns a 2008 bmw 535i. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle exhibited loud popping noises, similar to the sound of a gun shot. The contact proceeded to drive the vehicle and the glass from the sunroof began to shatter, falling over him while driving. The contact moved off the roadway and confirmed that the sunroof shattered. The vehicle was taken to the dealer the following day and the contact was advised that something must have struck the sunroof to cause the glass to shatter. The contact was persistent that nothing had struck the sunroof and later while performing research, he discovered that many other owners of the exact same year, make and model had also encountered the sunroof failure.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs to the vehicle. The failure and the current mileage was 36,500.
