The front passenger seat occupant detection light is on due to the mat cushion failure.this is very common on bmw and most of them have a recall issued, but not for my 2007.please advise as the dealership wants $1800 for a new one. Passenger airbag will not work unless replaced

I received a "passenger restraint system" malfunction error on my 2007 bmw 530i.i was told by my mechanic that there has been a recall on the passenger seat sensor/control module, recall id # 99695, however, my car was not included because it does not have "comfort seats."an internet search shows that this problem is quite common for other 2006 & 2007 bmw 5 series sedans without "comfort seats."

I was informed by the bmw service manager that the passenger air bag was defective. I contacted bmw and they stated there would be a recall in about a month. Now they want to charge me to repair the problem. I feel that bmw is responsible as the indication on the dash alerted me to this when the car was still under warranty. I wish to inform you of this and also notify me when there would be a recall as the bmw 325 series was already recalled and i presume the problem was attended to. Trunk above spare tire was dry, no signs of moisture. We experienced heavy rainfall on 3/17. My message display is stating that the airbag on the front passenger seat occupant may not deploy in a crash due to cracks and fatigue which couldlead to a systemfailure, this looks like it couldhave been a recall issue that i wasn't notified about

My car was in my driveway. My complaint is i just bought the car from a friend of our family and everything was. About a month later when i start the car i get this error" fault in passenger restraint system effecting airbag-belt tensioner or belt for delimiter. So i call bmwusa to see if this was recalled.the man i spoke with said yes it was but i let me have your vin# oh no i'm sorry not for your vin " i was shocked to think it would be a recall on one but not another. If it is effecting my air bag u would think. It would be a safety issue for all cars that get that error. Or was that car builtknowing it was eventually going to go out and we the customers are going to have to pay for it. I would rather not have that at all. It makes no sense. Especially if your ok to fix some cars and not all of them after all why would we want something in the car if we know one its just going to go out and we have to pay for it. And for the safety part . It even sounds more crazy that something like that could malfunction and i not even sure if anybody should ride in my passenger seat. Well it's [xxx] at [xxx] if you have any questions thank you for your time and have a wonderful day. 2007 bmw 530 i . The light indicating the front passenger air bag is not working seems to be unfixable. Bmw will not give me any assurance that the problem is not of any danger and actually told me not to drive it if i feel it is unsafe. It has been repaired five times yet the light continues to come on.

The passenger seat occupancy mat sensor has failed and it has triggered the seat belt and airbag light sensor for my bmw.bmw says it is not under recall, but they have recalled the 2006 bmw e60 (mine is a 2007) for the same problem.

Last year i could hear a sound of water through my sunroof and would have water thrown at me through my ac. My stereo and dash stopped working and suddenly started working after a couple of months. I took it to 2 different locations and they would tell me there was no short in a fuse.yesterday my car would not start it was stationed in front of my home. I went to a mechanic and found that my battery was sitting in water. The car will not start even after water was drained and the battery was replaced. I called bmw but they want to charge me $385 just for a diagnostic. I have changed my battery like 4 time in the last 2 years which is just a headache in itself. My vehicle wont start.

The headlights, driving lights are all shorted out. This was a dangerous situation as it happened at night. When taken to my mechanic, he told me that it is a common fault on bmw's. That the wiring for all the lights is made from recycled plastic and with the heat from outside and the engine the insulation completely deteriorates. He showed my bare wires everywhere and if you touch the insulation it just crumbles away. How could a $55,000 car have such poor wiring that is can create a dangerous and possibly fatal accident. To me there should be a complete recall of affected vehicles.

The sheathing on my headlight's wiring is flaking off which could lead to potential fires. I was quoted $1500 per headlight to replace them with the same crappy headlight housings that are made with the same material that will eventually do the same thing. All i need is to have the car parked in my garage and it causing a fire that could burn down our home or worst injure my family.

Replacing the daytime running light bulb that failed, i removed the headlight assembly from the vehicle to have easier access to the bulb recessed deep inside the headlight housing. Upon opening the access panel, i discovered the wiring insulation of most of the inner wiring harness of headlight brittle and flaking off, exposing the bare wires. The short circuit probability is high with the exposed wires in close proximity.

Headlights internal wiring geta so hot it melts and cracks and deteriorates and causes short circuit eventually leading to both or single high beam malfunction.

The left front parking bulb was no working, took the vehicle to bmw dealership in columbia, s.c. To have bulb replaced. Upon picking up the vehicle, the warning indicatorfor the same bulb and the left front high beam warning both lights were not functioning correctly appeared. I returned to the service department to inquire why the warning was on, which they stated it was probably left loose. The service adviser returned to bring me into the shop to show me the wiring for the light assembly was cracking and falling off, exposing bare wire causing the short and blowing the bulbs. The service department at bmw stated a new assembly would be required which would be about $1500 each for the parts. After replacement of the bulb while in the service department, there was another electrical short causing the bulbs to blow immediately. I have read the wiring was coated with a soy based product, which is why the wiring coating is prematurely cracking and exposing bare copper wire, creating an electrical and fire hazard. Due to the inadequate material utilized by the manufacturer, it should be rectified by the manufacturer prior to serious injury or death.

I was driving and opened the sunroof.the night before there was a massive rain storm.shortly after opening the sunroof the car's electrical system started severely malfunctioning.a warning sign came on that said that the entire electrical system was having a massive malfunction and that i should pull over immediately.the water from the storm drained into the electrical system and shorted it.this is a design flaw in the car and bmw is aware of it.the electrical system is stored near the drains in the lower rear of the car.

My 2007 bmw 530i engine caught fire on april 15 the moment car was ignited in the early morning. I was with my wife and 2.5 years old son at the time of incident. It could have been a major disaster or even blast if we were not home or with fire extinguisher to control the fire on time. We reported about this life-threatening incident to bmw na multiple times but their customer service representative from corporate headquarters betsy hohmann called our concerns as hypothetical unless there were personal injuries involved.bmw of fremont service center identified that pcv heated hose shorted out and burnt other components. The wire harness and intake manifold were burnt out and melted.the dealership verbally accepted this issue a design flaw that caused almost 6-9 inches flames inside the engine. Bmw na customer service offered a deal to fix the problem as long as we sign a confidential nda to hide the facts. Bmw na also recommended us to sell this car after repairs but we don't want to risk anyone else's life by not disclosing the fire even if we agree to bmw na's proposed resolution. Our confidence in bmw brand has already shaken from the outcome of our conversations because after all this is the matter of customer life, safety, trust and brand.

My car automatically shut off and i smelled a burning plastic odor coming from the engine. I took my car to the bmw licensed mechanic that i normally see who repaired the issue that was deemed to be the pcv valve heater. This happened at the end of may. Then at the end of june, i received a lower from bmw announcing recall # 17v-683: pcv valve heater. Bmw told me today that they can not refund me for the repairs that i had done because these repairs had to be performed at a bmw dealership. I have all my receipts. Total repairs cost $2626.91 + rental car expenses of $204.16 and $76.71.

Warning light came on stating electrical malfunction then several other warning lights came on and was lit up like a christmas tree. The odometer area starting going haywire. It was like the car was possessed !!

Electrical problems and transmission repair issues

All active xenon headlight wiring protective coating is/has flaked off exposing wires, making it vulnerable to electrical short, lose of driving lights and potential fire hazard .

The contact owns a 2007 bmw 530i. While attempting to drive the vehicle, there was a ticking noise coming from the engine, a burning odor, and smoke emitted through the vents. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v683000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 179,688.

Car vibrates when ac is on. Passenger seat belt buzzes when no one is in the seat as well as seat belt tighten while driving. Transmission hesitant at times. ( transmission warning light come on at times, when car has already been service).

There's a recall for my car's pcv and bmw still hasn't developed a remedy to fix the issue....going on 9 months now. How long are bmw drivers with recalls supposed to wait to fix their cars. I can't believe that the company would leave their customers standing idle on this issue for so long.

This seems to happen when the weather is hot and in major traffic or when i am out on the open hwy driving for about 1 to 2hrs on a hot day. The car will automatically cut off without warning. No alarm or idiot light indicator.the problem is you can be driving 60 to 75 miles per hour on the interstate and loose control of your power steering and ability to maneuver the car to a safe stopping point.it will not start back up until 15 to 20 minute later as if the car needs to cool down. Once time period has elapse the car will run as normal. This has happen several times. Driving home from work in traffic and we only going 45 mph but its hot outside and the car will cut off without warning. I notice on the bmw forum this is problem that is across the board with other vehicles. The car will cut off at a light after driving for long period of time in hot weather in the city limits but also on the hwy after long period of driving.

2007 bmw 530 evaporative cooler leak in dashboard, causing freon in passenger cabinet. In addition to leaky freon in the air.very common problem according to dealer in tucson, az for bmw they replace them all the time even on couple year old cars, usually they charge customer for it. All the freon leaking in compartment can't be good for us.

Car overheating.took vehicle to shop and radiator was replaced immediately.same thing happened again the day after, car overheating and getting message that engine must be turned off immediately.car at shop again and issue is being investigated.assumption that it has a defective water pump.contacted bmw and they state that they are aware of some water pump issues for models 2008-2011 but they have not identified all models or vins affected.my vehicle is a 2007.bmw referred me to nhtsa to file complaint and request investigation.bmw states that it is a possibility.repair is extremely expensive, my car is not drivable and i do not have another vehicle to drive.i am requesting your assistance.thank you.## vin passed ## bmw, 2007 530i ##

The contact owns a 2007 bmw 530i. While having the vehicle serviced, the contact was informed that the torque aluminum bolt on the engine pulley was fractured and would need replacing. The bolt was replaced. The current and failure mileage was 101,000.

I was warned by the computer system of engine over heating, and while driving on freeway, the engine automatically slowed down the speed, which caused me pull of the freeway in a hurry, so i wouldn't cause any accident for slow traffic.at the mechanic's shop, i was first informed that thermostat was defective, but later they discovered the water pump has failed. The reason for the water pump failure was because the electronic control within the water pump housing appeared to be burned out.i was able to see the burned charred mark on the interior wall of the housing, which is laminated with plastic.the water pump is in close proximity of the engine.this failure happens at about 10,000 miles after the expiration of 50,000 miles warranty. I believe the design of the water pump and the location of the water pump has inherent problem for eventual breakage.bmw should redesign this part.

The headlight went out - replaced bulbs and still not working. Removed the headlight assembly and noticed every wire was bare with barely any coating left to protect the wires- at least 15 wires. Headlight replacement cost is over $650.00.!! this is an electrical hazard and could cause shorting out and a dangerous driving situation in the least.

My headlight assemblies, manufactured by hella for bmw, have crumbling and decaying insulation on the internal wires.many of the wires are bare, and can cause short circuits and failures.all of the dozens of internal headlight wires are rotten and failing.there is the potential for sudden lighting failure at night, as well as the possibility of short circuit, combustion and fire.this is a major safety problem across many bmw's, and has been reported by many owners to safercar.

The contact owns a 2007 bmw 530i. The contact stated that the head lights malfunctioned. The contact attempted to replaced the lights and noticed that the wires had frayed, prompting the contact to tape the wires in order to avoid wire contacts which caused sparks. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000.

Headlights internal wiring geta so hot it melts and cracks and deteriorates and causes short circuit eventually leading to both or single high beam malfunction.

The vehicle headlight internal wiring insulation is falling apart, thus leaving bare wires exposed.this is a faulty design that could possibly lead to a fire or accident due to loss of lights at night. This should not be happening under normal conditions.

All active xenon headlight wiring protective coating is/has flaked off exposing wires, making it vulnerable to electrical short, lose of driving lights and potential fire hazard .

The headlight assembly had a halo light that burnt out. I went to the dealer and bought a replacement bulb. When i unscrewed the light bulb, the wiring insulation fell off and exposed all of the copper wiring in the headlight wiring harness. They do not sell a replacement wiring harness and now i'm required to buy a new headlight assembly for the passengers side which costs approx $1700+ at my local dealership. Due to the high costs of the headlight assembly, i'm not able to afford it and now my car will not pass inspection which has prevented me from driving it. I can only imagine that the other headlight has the same issue from reading 100's of other forum posts on the internet about this same issue with their vehicles. I've attempted to fix this issue myself using electrical tape but that didn't work for long. I've contacted repair shops and they won't take the headlight assembly apart due to the age of it. The vehicle was in motion when the light bulb burnt out. This issue happened in 2015 and i decided to drive with the halo light bulb burnt out but then the low beam bulb burnt out. Now my car won't pass inspection to continue driving it in texas.

The headlights, driving lights are all shorted out. This was a dangerous situation as it happened at night. When taken to my mechanic, he told me that it is a common fault on bmw's. To me there should be a complete recall of affected vehicles.

All rubber tubing has fallen off of lights creating a major fire hazard.wiring is currently down to copper, with multiple wires touching each other which has caused my lights to no longer work.

Insulation on electrical wiring inside headlight assembly is crumbling apart.this lets bare wire touch each other and shorts out headlight, leading to malfunctioning / very unpredictable and dangerous lighting.other drivers may not see you coming

The contact owns a 2007 bmw 530i. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle shook and hesitated to accelerate. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing, who diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 175,000.

I'm an owner of the bmw530i & around the end of april i began to feel a jerk type of motion (a slight acceleration) when i came to a stop . I called the dealer who asked if they could test drive it because they cannot explain what that could be . On 5/30/2013 i took the car into the dealer & i was told the car may just need to be updated because they could not explain what was causing the jerking motion upon stopping . After about 1 hr 1/2 i was told they needed me to give them authorization to push pass there system because for some unknown reason there system keeps stopping/unable to diagnose & the tech says they tried several times & if they continued it could possibly blow my electrical or radio system , they would not take the responsibility . I could not take that chance because that is the only vehicle my self & family has . So at that point the tech & the service mgr explained that there was nothing else they could do & they felt it was still a safe vehicle to drive . Bmw should be able to diagnose there own vehicles & is this a manufacturers defect ? i am very disappointed & concerned about the safety & security of my self & my children .

The passenger seat occupancy mat sensor has failed and it has triggered the seat belt and airbag light sensor for my bmw.bmw says it is not under recall, but they have recalled the 2006 bmw e60 (mine is a 2007) for the same problem.

The front passenger seat occupant detection light is on due to the mat cushion failure.this is very common on bmw and most of them have a recall issued, but not for my 2007.please advise as the dealership wants $1800 for a new one. Passenger airbag will not work unless replaced

The steering wheel has a lock with an electronic system that creates a "fault" notice when not working. The fault notice can come on even when the steering wheel is operable. Apparently, the fault notice can lock the steering wheel after 10 +/- notices. The lock can cause the steering wheel to freeze, and/or the car to shut down. There are literally thousands of reports online about this issue. The repair costs $850. This dangerous situation should be a manufacturer's problem and a recall should be implemented.

My 2007 bmw 530i has a message in the dash with a red steering wheel saying "steering wheel lock malfunction!" "steering wheel may stay locked/unlocked and vehicle may not start"..... I have called the bmw manufacturing company in south carolina and they told me that there was nothing they could do about this issue stating that the vehicle was 11 yrs old and problems will accrue with that age on any vehicle. Yes that may be true but this is a safety issue because the steering wheel could lock while driving down the rd and cause an accident. I also called the local bmw dealership to see how much it would cost to resolve this issue on my own and the said that the part itself was around $600!!! then add on 4hrs of labor to that with a labor rate of $145 and he! that adds up to almost $1200.00, how can a steering wheel lock cost so much! and us customers be forced to pay this amount because if we don't we may end up on the interstate at 70mph and the steering lockup and have major accident. Someone please help with this issue!

Electronic steering lock message appeared while car was stationary.car was brought to mechanic who said the steering wheel needs to be replaced and that the car was not safe to drive because the steering wheel could lock at any time including while driving at high speeds.then brought car to bmw dealer who also confirmed that the steering wheel needed to be replaced and it was unsafe to drive.there should be a recall on this safety issue.this is even more dangerous than the current airbag recall.there is already a service bulletin regarding this which states "if defective, which was common, the steering column would have to be replaced". It also states that these lock mechanisms were only used in production year 2006.bmw stopped using these electronic mechanisms because they knew it was unsafe. I have read many other posts here and online where people are experiencing the same issue.this major safety issue needs to be investigated and a recall should be issued.i'm hoping you will take care of this matter soon before someone is seriously injured.

I own a 2007 bmw 530i.water can get below the trunk of the vehicle where a rdc modular is located and cause the rdc to fail.this rdc failure in turn can cause your electrical system to fail.this happened to me and as of today, bmw only replaced the rdc, on my dime of course even though i have a cpo warranty.water can come from clogged drains at the sunroof and other places.bmw knows of this issue and doesn't want to fix this issue.it appears to be a design flaw.after reviewing bmw forums, this appears to be an issue with many people.

The rubber gaskets for both the front windshield and back are wearing out prematurely.this may cause windshield to fly off while driving thereby causing an accident.i have contacted bmw and the case # is 1-4829383813.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)i ([xxx]) am filing a complaint on behalf of my mom ([xxx]) who owns the 2007 bmw 530i in question (vin #: [xxx]). English is not her primary language. According to my mom's account, on 11/10/2009 she pulled her car into the driveway and waited for the garage door to open. But as she let go of the brake pedal, the car started to accelerate very quickly without her intention. She tried to apply the brakes, but the car's motor was just too powerful to prevent the car from continuing to accelerate into and almost through the garage wall.we reported to bmw of north america and asked them at the time weather unintentional acceleration and or some problem with the electronics governing the car's accelerator was responsible for the accident and they took the vehicle, tested it, and concluded that the vehicle's diagnosis returned no such error. I explained to them that with drive by wire technology and all the electronics governing the car, there could have been some soft of a short-circuiting or problems with it. They told us that there was nothing they could find wrong with the vehicle. We were told that it was my mom's fault and that she might have mistakenly pushed the wrong pedal, which my mom vividly remembers she did not because once the car accelerated she quickly try to push the brakes, which were overpowered by the car.our insurance had to pick up the bill. I understand that bmw would not be willing to admit fault immediately and it is also possible that the diagnosis system cannot detect such problems. A professor at showed on abc news that the toyotas system cannot detect the problem (see video from this web link: http://www.egmcartech.com/2010/02/23/expert-tells-abc-news-electronic-flaw-results-in-sudden-acceleration-in-toyotas/). But in light of the issues with toyota, we wanted to report this accident and place a record that the 2007 bmw 530i might have an unintended acceleration problem.

Vehicle sent error message about passenger side airbag failure in the am, complete electrical system failure in the evening when i went to return home. Dealer found water in trunk, below spare tire. Trunk above spare tire was dry, no signs of moisture. We experienced heavy rainfall on 3/17. Electrical system is fried - vehicle is inoperable.appears to be failed sunroof water seals per bmw service bulletin si b 61 13 06.in my professional opinion as a mechanical engineer, this is a design flaw. Multiple owners' forums concur.

I purchased a new 2007 530i with light alloy rims and "run flat" tires from weatherford bmw in berkeley, ca.in june 2008, with only 10836 miles on my odometer i was advised that i had to have my two rear rims replaced at $491.19 each for a total of $982.38.the part number for these rims are 36-11-6-760-616.i was notified by my independent mechanic that some of the rubber on the my rear tire tire was separating and flapping thus the noise in my rear tires. When i took my vehicle for tire replacement at the tire firm, i was notified that the same two rims that were replaced in 2008 at 10836 miles was cracked (now at 77633 miles).i attempted to resolve this matter with the bmw dealer but was promptly dismissed by the service techniciab and told "tough luck" and if i wanted 2 new rims, i would have to pay for them.since these rims are very important to my personal safety and i find it very difficult that as bad as the highways in california are not a+, that these rims would fail at 10,836 miles of normal driving even with the "run flat" tires.i feel that this is a manufacturer's safety issue since this situation appears to be almost a common problem with these same vehicles, all with manufacturer's rims.since the safety of the passengers depends on the dependability of the rims and tires i feel it needs to be investigated by your department.
