I went to get into my car yesterday and started it up and then i have this passenger restraint system malfunction appears on my idrive computer. I haven't called the dealership as of yet since i have been doing research online about this issue and it has become evident that this is a recurring issue in these cars. Through my research online i have found that some dealership will fix it and some won't and i don't understand why. I think that since this is a recurring problem it should be fixed by bmw with no questions since air bag malfunction is a safety issue. I am hoping to get more information about the recall campaign that i've briefly read about associated with this cars.
I've been told by two european car repair companies that 2006 bmws are frequently needing the airbag control modular replaced.there is an internal error on the airbag control unit- code 93d7.this part has not been recalled, and because of the exorbitant price, i was told that many drivers choose to disconnect the airbags.this should not be happening!is bmw reporting this issue?i called the corporate office and they seemed completely uninterested and/or unwilling to document my complaint.my vehicle was stationary at the time the warning was displayed.
The car was going at 20mph on a rainy day, all of a sudden it started to spin, after a couple of 360 degree turn it hit a pole and came to a halt. Airbags and side curtain bags deployed with driver side airbag popped into pieces. Driver has a minor injury to right hand.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 530i. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the warning mat sensor illuminated on the instrument panel, indicating that the air bag would not deploy in the event of a crash. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was advised to replace the mat sensor. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but failed to offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 08v384000 (air bags:frontal). No repairs were performed. The failure mileage was 105,800 and the current mileage was 105,300.
Approximately two months ago (march 2021) the instrument panel airbag and seat belt warning lights had begun to remain on.the bmw dealer determined it was a faulty front passenger air bag occupancy sensor mat which was then replaced and repaired at the owner's expense.this defect was specifically covered in a service information bulletin sb-10056703-9690, dated september 2014, which superseded si b01 09 14, dated august 2014, which extended bmw's limited warranty to 15 years, without mileage limitation, if the warning light came on within the extended 15 year period.unfortunately, bmw corporate determined this defect was not within the 15 year period based on the vehicle's in-service date.said bmw is an original owner vehicle with less than 45,000 miles or driven an average of 3,000 miles per year.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 530i. The contact stated while driving various speeds the brake pedal extended all the way down to the floor and there was a delay when thebrake pedal was engaged.the contact also stated that when he turned the heat on he smelled a burning odor in the seats. The air bag light sensor illuminated whenever the vehicle was turned on. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer and stated that there was no recall for his vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
Ref nhtsa campaign number: 08v384000while my vehicle is the same model year, model and specification listed in the recall, my vehicle's vin is not "included" in the list of recalled vehicles.i have and am currently experiencing this exact seat sensor mat problem. Bmw is unwilling to cover any warranty work as the specific vin is apparently not affected despite the fact that clearly it is. I am concerned about the safety of the occupants of my vehicle based on the unreliability of this component and feel the recall should be expanded to include all vehicles that experience the same problem.
Passenger seat sensor faulty, airbag disabled.faults are showing, and warning lights are on.i have called the dealer and bmw usa, both acknowledge an issue but insist my car is not covered.the vin is not on their roster.bmw recalled 200,000 cars for this problem, in the same year and model.i now have the issue, and it is a clear safety concern for any of my loved ones who might ride in the car.
Hello nhtsa, recall regarding my issue has already been well documented / investigated with bothnhtsa and bmw.to summarize the issue is about a "passenger restraint malfunction" specifically the oc3 seat sensor mat faulty unit, which controls the front passenger airbags. When faulty, the airbags are deactivated, which raises a safety concern. I had called bmw na and had my vin pulled and unfortunately was not included within the recall cut off date up until 11/2005, my particular model was made 12/2005. I requested bmw na to open up an investigation for re-consideration to include my vehicle under therecall list, considering the time frame of cutoff date and my vehicle manufactured production date. I was told this would be handled internally which is fine, however sense consideration will not be extended and wanted to reach out to nhtsa. My question to bmw na was, "what were the enhancements made to my particular vehicle in improving safety, they were not able to provide any details regarding this. Would you have something documented explaining the specifics repairs/ improvements/ or component enhancements made for models following after 11/2005 cut off date?
I have a 2006 bmw 530i (make: 03/05). Two days back, while i was driving home from work (highway), suddenly the message, "passengerrestraint malfunction" came up and when i researched about this, i foundthat there is a recall for the 2006 bmw 530i's for this issue (recall subject : front seat occupant protection mat, nhtsa campaign number: 13v564000) . But, when i emailed bmw regarding the issue, they said my vin is not included in the recall list. I am not sure why all the cars are not included when they are made in same year and same model. I am attaching the screenshot of the email that bmw customer care has sent me and also of the error message in the car. This has become a safety issue for my car now. So, could you please look into this issue and resolve this for me. Thank you in advance......updated 12/03/15 updated 05/21/18
Passenger seat sensor faulty, airbag disabled. Faults are showing, and warning lights are on. I have called the dealer and bmw usa, both acknowledge an issue but insist my car is not covered. The vin is not on their roster. Bmw recalled 200,000 cars for this problem, in the same year and model. I now have the issue, and it is a clear safety concern for any who might ride in the car.
Upon starting engine passenger-side air bag fault lights appeared indicating air bags would not work in an accident. Passenger seat was unoccupied at the time and no items were on the seat. Dealer reset and reported diagnostic tests detected low voltage condition to that circuit. Dealer reset. Dealer recommended i purchase a new battery. I purchased a new battery 10 days later.during the interval between reset and new battery the lights did not reappear. 9/2014 i was driving at highway speeds when passenger side air bag fault lights appeared. Seat was unoccupied at the time and no objects were on the seat. Dealer diagnosed same as above. At time of this incident battery was 1.5 years old. No liquids have ever been spilled on seat. No moisture on seat. Mileage at time of incident was 23,900.driver's side air bag fault warning did not appear during either incident. Presumably that circuit would be subjected to the same low voltage condition as the passenger side.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 530i. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the air bag and safety restraint lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated the passenger restraint sensor needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
While i was driving, i received an error message on my computer display.the error message read: "passenger seat restraint malfunction", then a picture of my passenger seat airbag deployed with a line through it.i called bmw( mckenna, norwalk, ca) on 07/02/2013 and they stated per my vin number this is not a recall part, yet maybe for some vehicles it was.
Warning sensor for passenger seat belt not active would start showing on my dash and upper console last year.received letter in jan 2014 about possible recall in the future campaign 13v-564.today is march 08,2014 after being diverted several times during phone calls, i demanded if they can review my warnings in my dash board but to scan the car for any problems it would be a charged of 140.00.fields bmw at winter park fl, said that in order for the service to be free of charge, i would have to wait until i get the letter that states a formal recall needs to be performed.i have a family of four and even thought the warning does not come on often, i still have worries that if in case of an accident the airbags or the seat belt won't work.i don't have the luxury to use multiple cars where ever i go with my kids.i purchased a sound car and i would like the peace of mind that the airbags and seat belts will protect anyone in the passenger and rear seats at time of need.i am afraid that we are waiting for a tragedy to happen before an actual recall is performed.
Car gave a passenger restraint system malfunction error that has been identified in two prior nhtsa recall campaigns that include the the 2006 bmw 530i.
My 2006 bmw 530ihas just experienced a malfunction of the passenger airbag / seatbelt sensor, and i took it to the bmw of sterling service center, which confirmed that the occupancy sensor in the passenger seat has failed. This is exactly the cause for the august 5 2008 bmw recall (nhtsa campaign number: 08v384000), and according to the recall description, my car should have been recalled at that time. However, bmw of sterling told me that my vin does not show up in the recall database. I hope this is not a scam that bmw of sterling (virginia) is running, as they asked for $1400 to replace the sense, than after one more days they said they contacted bmw which agreed to pay 50% of the bill. I refused the offer, as it seems like a scam to me.why my car was not part of the original recall, which states that all my 2004-2006 bmw 5-series (like mine) are recalled for this exact issue, and that bmw will even offer a 10-year warranty on this exact sensor? is bmw only recalling selective cars, and not all of them,to save some extra money?????
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 530i.the contact stated that while parked attempting to adjust the seat, the passenger airbag warning light illuminated.the vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
The passenger aig bag/seat belt restraint errorair back will not deploy because it thinks there is no one in the passenger seat
I was sent a letter from bmw in january 2014 concerning recall 13v564: front passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor mat.the letter states that bmw does not have sufficient parts to conduct the recall and i would be notified when they are available.it is now 6 months later(june 2014) and i have not been notified; and i have called my dealer (bmw seattle) a few times only to be told they still do not have the parts.this is extremely concerning as the air bag warning lamp came on right after i received the letter concerning the recall.i appreciate the company notifying me of the recall but it is pointless if they cannot correct it and it makes them look like they've done their due diligence of notifying me but other then that they have no sense of urgency.i would think for a recall on safety equipment they would expedite securing the parts to correct the issue.
My vehicle, a 2006 bmw 530i showed a message on the display menu stating that i had an issue with "the restraint system". It stated that in the even of an accident, my airbags will not deploy. I am concerned with this issue as it is safety related. Bmw took care of it in 2009, and i recall the service advisor stating that the mat was "patched up", never replaced. But did mention that if i had any issues with this system, that i had a 10year warranty with no limit on miles as it is a safety recall. Today, i've experienced the same issue yet again. Seems like it was a temporary fix. I contacted my local dealer, and they stated that because my vehicle has a salvage title, i have no warranty. I don't understand why they tried to fix the issue initially, then decline the promised warranty (which i have a letter for). Any help to resolve my issue would be greatly appreciated. Best regards.

Insulation around the wiring in the headlights has completely crumbled off and bare wire is exposed, could possible touch and cause a fire. Passenger air bag sensor in the seat is faulty and i recieved a recall notice but bmw says there is no recall on my car and refuses to fix.
My wife started the car up and the airbag and safety restraint lights never turned off.i looked on line and saw there was a recall that listed this years model number but after calling bmw they said my vin number was not listed in the affected numbers.it looks like bmw is only trying to fix a few cars to say they have done something but this problem is in all their cars made in that year.my car has the sports seats.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 530i. The contact stated that after the vehicle was started, the passenger's side srs warning light illuminated continuously. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v564000 (air bag). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
A passenger airbag warning light has been on in my wife's 2006 bmw 530i for the past year. Despite the nhtsa recall campaign (action number ea08001 and pe07045), bmw says this car is not covered by the recall and will not fix the problem. I also have a 2006 bmw 530i with the same airbag warning light on. Bmw will fix my problem. It seems that my car has "comfort seats" while my wife's car has "sports seats." obviously, the defective part is present on both vehicles as well as on the other bmw models and years identified in your recall campaign. Why did your recall stop short of fixing all problems?
Fault in pass restrain system afecting airbag belt tensioner or belt force limiter
I recently purchased my 2006 530i. The airbag indicator showed a default so i took it my local dealership. I was told that there was a default in the mat sensor and it needs to be replaced at a cost of $781.72. I researched and found that there was a recall for this exact issue for my make, model and year. I contacted my local dealership as well as bmw north america customer service. I was told by both that my vin was not included in the recall so the repair is on me. I also see that many other owners have had this same issue. Clearly there is a problem that bmw needs to correct.
Ongoing problems with passenger airbag and seatbelt warning lights illuminating. When lit, those systems are deactivated. Bmw dealer replaced oc3 mat [recall] apparently twice. Problem recoccurred. Dealer replaced positive battery cable [recall]. Pass airbag and seatbelts have illuminated multiple times since. Dealer blamed low battery voltage, wanted to sell me a battery. I refused. They tested with a "good" battery. Dealer now states sgm module is defective due to code 93f9. If that is true i believe the sgm has been damaged due to problems with oc3 mat and battery cable causing fluctuating voltage and damage to sgm, probably the capacitor that stores electricity. If you search online for 93f9 fault code you will see it is a common problem with bmw.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 530i. While driving 40 mph, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the air bag control module needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not mention any recalls for the air bag failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

When i started my car the idrive displayed the "increased battery discharge" message.i then smelled a strong odor of smoke and melted plastic, and the idrive stopped working altogether.i couldn't figure out the problem until i searched this website and several bmw devoted message boards to discover that the problem could be traced to a defective design related to the micro processor module that controls the idrive.apparently, bmw thought it was a good idea to install the mpm, an important and sensitive electrical component, in the spare tire wheel-well where liquid can gather easily.a small amount of water spilled in my trunk, and the mpm burned and melted along with the attached wiring harness.obviously, this is a serious and dangerous design defect.and mine is not the first instance of this happening - why hasn't a recall been required?it also seems that bmw issued at least one service bulletin regarding this issue, and directed its dealers to relocate the mpm to a safer location.my vehicle has been to the dealer several times since the bulletin was issued - at least twice for problems with the electrical system - but the dealer never mentioned the bulletin or suggested that they should relocate it.
Have a problem with the right headlight in my 530i 2006 bmw.the angel light bulb burned out and when i went to replace it, the wire covers started to come off exposing the wires completely.after replacing the bulb (which was a bit difficult to do), most of the wires in the headlight had no protection and were completely exposed.i had to cover them with electric tape to prevent some shorts, but missed a section i guess, since now the computer is giving me a adaptive headlight warning message and the light is not pointing to the proper direction.i have done some research on line and found that it is happening to a lot of people.contacted bmw of north america, and they said since my car is out of warranty, they cannot do anything about it.the material used to cover these wires is not correct, as it will break off just by lightly touching them.i feel this is a safety concern where there may be short circuits while the car is running and it would affects the car's computers.in my case, the light control module is also shorted and must be replaced.i would like to know if there is anything you can do to find out if this is a safety concern or not.i believe it is specially on a car still new.let me know if you would need any further information. Thank you.

Car shut off middle of highway very dangerous and deadly all because key lost code...how if it's in the ignition and i've been driving over several miles
Headlights would take turns randomly working, then one night both headlights turned off while i was going around a corner at 55mph. This was in the country no street lights. Just as i came to a blind stop there both kicked back on. After getting home i took apart to find some wires were rotting other already bare, and others cracking. I pray this doesnt happen to anyone else because if this problem isn't fixed someone's going to die. Also if someone does crash i pray to god they can quickly get out of car before all those bare wires behind headlight get smashed together and the fire starts.
As i was driving a warning came on my idrive display that there was a parking light malfunction.i later removed the headlight to replace a bulb and upon doing so i noticed bare copper wires.i then removed the main cover and saw that literally every wire had portions of the outer wire jacket deteriorating.when i removed the parking lamp assy. To replace the bulb, the wire jacket just flaked off.due to the severity of the damage i immediately took the headlight to lauderdale bmw.lauderdale bmw had a specialist look at the headlight. The specialist said that though it did look very bad unfortunately it was just due to the florida sun! there is no support for the headlight either from hella north america (the actual manufacturer of the headlight)or from bmw. No parts can be ordered for it. The only option available is to purchase a complete new headlight assy. At $1500.00i wrote to hella north america and they referred me to bmw germany.i wrote to bmwna and they responded that it was just normal wear and tear.imagine that, an 8 year old headlight deteriorate to bare wires is by bmw's concern, normal wear and tear!that's shameful!at this point i cannot install the headlight assembly back into the car for fear of a dead short and possible fire!i have a 1995 chevrolet s-10 that at 19 years has no wiring issues and definitely no bare wires!for bmw though it is considered completely acceptable after 8 years!yet both vehicles sit side by side in the florida sun everyday! is it right that bmw vehicle pricing on the average is so much higher than chevrolet and yet bmw'sbuild quality and what is acceptable is so much lower!when this happens, something is terribly wrong!
My airbag light is on and my transmission has an issue as if it needs to be replaced after research i found out that mechatronics and other components to be an issue for instance if your trying to pass your car stalls and says transmission failure after shutoff message disappears car will go in limp mode and car starts out in 2nd gear instead of 1st and 1st gear will also lock itself.....this is dangerous for a supposed high end well built performance vehicle. Tranny has no issues computer does that causes shutter and stall limp mode nearly could have died
After traveling for several weeks, my 2006 bmw 530i was parked in my drive way. When i returned home, i opened by door to find mold growing all over the seats , interiors surfaces, and a bad odor. I opened the back door and found 4 inches of water standing in the floor board. I immediately used my wet/dry vac to suck all the standing water out. As i looked around mold had grown all over the leather seats, interior trim ,and carpet. I started to do some research on bimmer forums to see what might the culprit. This appears to be a common problem with many bmw sunroofs of this vintage. I was able to remove the back seat and i found that the cloth between trunk and rear seat was also saturates with water, mold, moisture. I had read to pull back the carpet and i found at lease 2 inches of standing water in both rear floor board areas. I also noticed many electrical components were under water. My alarm was constantly going off. I would reset it from the key remote and it would starting sounding off like the alarm was set off. I had to disconnect the battery terminal to get this to stop. So it is clearly a short in the electrical system. I am just returning form a business trip and plan to get it towed to a dealership to get an estimate to replace the carpet, deal with the mold that i am not sure how will be treated. And address all the electrical issues since i do not have a way to drive it now.i have owned 6 other bmw and this one for 5 years. I have never seen any kind of flooding like this.
Speedometer, other electronic and sound indicators, and radio randomly turn off and on while driving.after taking it to several auto repair shops, a corroded computer component under the spare tire was found to be corroded due to water intrusion.replacing the part made the problem mostly go away, but occasionally get engine and coolant problem indicators.
My airbag light came on for no reason one day and will not go off i initially got a recall paper for it but was unable to take it to the shop i van no longer find the paperbut the transmission is trash
The wiring insulation is peeling around all of the wires in the headlight assembly. This is not a serviceable part, but the light bulbs are serviceable. This seems to pose a fire risk because bare conductors of opposite polarity are exposed to one another.
Internal headlight wiring insulation flaking off exposing copper wire causing failure of parking and daytime running lights andfailure of the front headlight system as well as the risk of fire. Also having issues with intermittent cruise control, power ports and fan inside the car.
We have a 2006 bmw 530i in january of 2013 we had a ignition coil go out with around 75000 miles which was about a 275.00$ to get fixed. Then on 6/26/13 we had 2 more ignition coils go out at 78000 miles, that time it was 507.00 $ to fix, this must be a faulty part because now 12/16/13 with 82000 milesit has happened again! i am going to pay for the remaining 3 to be changed. When i called bmw there was a recall apparently from 2002-2004 for this. By way of my vin.# i found out my car was made 9/2005i feel this problem never got fixed or simply just changing the brand of the coil was not the answer to theproblem! because its not fixed. I have never owned a car with issues like this. When i spoke to a independent certified bmw mechanic i was told it has been a problem!
The micro power module in the trunk burned up, crashing the screen/audio/service screen.the car is drivable but i cannot access any features from the dash computer screen, none of it works.there is a distinct plastic burned smell in the trunk.i have since learned this is a common problem...when i called my bmw certified mechanic, i barely explained my issue and his response was "let me guess, you have an '05 or '06 bmw 5 series, correct?the microprocessors in the trunk are burning up...they've since moved them from under the tire".my car could have burned down.clearly bmw knows they have a problem as they have since moved the processor.i shouldn't have to pay for this costly repair.
Insulation around the wiring in the headlights has completely crumbled off and bare wire is exposed, could possible touch and cause a fire. Passenger air bag sensor in the seat is faulty and i recieved a recall notice but bmw says there is no recall on my car and refuses to fix.
Steering wheel is lock and car will not start.yellow lock and steering displayed.
My son was driving the car to work and it only got about 8 blocks from our house when the car stalled and lost complete power.he coasted to the side of the road and from the looks when i arrived the serpentine tension belt had broken we turned the key over and the engine was in a free spin. We had it towed to a local service shop and they replaced the belt but stated the engine had no compression towed car to a second shop and got the same opinion the engine had no compression.there was no warning lights or messages on the dash.the car just stopped operating in the middle of the road and gave no warning.

I have a 2006 bmw 530i that has been leaking oil for 3 years.i have had work done on the car from an authorized bmw shop and the leak was not fixed.i have had excessive oil consumption to where i have had to either put oil in the car myself because it was at the minimum level, or take it in to the dealership (if i'm in the area) for them to top it off. I have taken my car back to the dealership 4 different times and they have told me that they could not find an oil leak.recently i took my car in for an oil change and they told me i had a leak in 3 different places.since i have been told different scenarios, i escalated the issue to higher management and asked for an answer as to why two different mechanics at a dealership that specialize in the "ultimate driving machine" gave me three different diagnostics.they then told me that my car has a broken bolt which is common for this model, but refuse to rectify the situation and the vehicle is under extended warranty and neither will pay the cost.
My airbag light came on for no reason one day and will not go off i initially got a recall paper for it but was unable to take it to the shop i van no longer find the paperbut the transmission is trash
While changing my oil, notice that oil has been slowly leaking around the valve cover. Looked on online forums and found that there are many people with the same issue. I inspected the area where they have stated common broken valve cover bolts and sure enough the bolts were broken. They literally just sitting in the valve cover with no purpose. They came right off when i pulled them up by hand.
During a bmw sponsored vehicle inspection i was informed that one of my valve cover bolts was broken and oil was leading on the engine (fire hazard).the bmw mechanic stated this was a common problem with the 530 series as the manufactured used aluminum bolts to reduce weight on the vehicle.the aluminum bolts snap/break due to heat.this is a possible fire hazard and the aluminum valve cover bolts should be recalled and replaced by bmw.
"takata recall" the car overheat, the dashboard show safety belt malfunction, when push the gas pedal sometimes jump, the car smell gasoline all he time, all the time show low limits of oil but the level of oil is correct.
We have owned this vehicle since 2007 and have not had too many issues with it.however, recently it developed an oil leak which bmw has refused to fix.what has happened is that four aluminum bolts that hold the top of the engine block on to the engine have broken for no apparent reason.according to the repair shop i took it to, bmw knows this is a defect.they should have never used aluminum bolts as fasteners for this engine.i have had to spend $2900.00 to have these bolts replaced by an authorized bmw repair shop.this has stopped the leak.the dealer wanted $4300.00 to do the same repair.this is not right.my mechanic said that this oil leak could have caused an engine fire if i had let it go.any help you can be on this matter would be great.

My 530i bmw has at least one broken cylinder head bolt. This is a very common problem with the bmw n52 engines. I was quoted $4500 for the repair. As i mentioned this is a very common problem, a known problem by bmw, but bmw isn't willing to offer me any assistance. I feel a need to report this expensive and common problem, and bmw's unwillingness to resolve this problem. I have spent hours with bmwusa and my local bmw stevens creek dealership and so far all i have done is wasted many hours of my time. Bmw needs to assume responsibility for something that is obviously a detect in their design.
My car has been leaking engine oil for about three months. After i had it checked, i was told that one bolt on the engine was broken. I found that the same problem happened common. I think bmw should solve this problem through recall, because this problem is a manufacture defect.
All 3 aluminum head bolts were broken causing an oil leak which could result in a fire.bolts were found in oil pan which could have damaged engine and caused failure.there are no warning lights or messages that indicate a problem.the only way to know there is a problem is an oil leak beneath the car.this was fixed out of warranty at a cost of $2131.78.the same problem occurred again 2.5 years later on march 27, 2013 at 105,135 miles and a cost of $2236.47.bmw doesn't think this is a major problem and says it is "typical" of a "high performance" engine.to me, this is not a normal maintenance item, not to mention the potential for fire and possible injury.there appears to be only one other complaint with your office for this specific problem for this specific car, but i think you will find similar problems for all bmw's with 3.0 liter and other engines with aluminum head bolts, including the 325, 330, 528, 730, etc.
Upon replacing a head light bulb i notice that the headlight wiring inside the headlight housing was exposed and the insulation crumbling to the touch.many wires are exposed without insulation thus creating a short circuit potential and fire hazard, i have researched about this and it seems it is a common problem with bmws, there are many owners with this issue.i feel there should be a recall for this before someone car catches fire and\or someone dies, bmwna doesn't seem to want to resolve this issue based on all the owners complaints and their negative response.
Thank you.
I was replacing a parking (angel eye) bulb in the drivers side of my 2006 bmw 530i and noticed that the wiring for the parking and high beam bulb was so brittle that the was falling off exposing the bare wiring and i also noted a smell of burnt plastic.i checked the forums and other owners with the same headlights 2004-2010 5 series were reporting the same issue.bmw is not offering a tsb or a recall for this.the lights in this case are the bi-xenon adaptive lights.it appears the heat created by the hid unit is causing the wires to become brittle.i emailed bmw usa directly and i was just referred to a dealer.for the time being i have wrapped the wiring in electrical tape until i can afford to replace each unit.i am afraid to use my high beams because i do not want to blow anymore bulbs, short out my lighting system or possibly even start a fire.i have considered downgrading the type of lighting system in my car but that would entail having to rewire the car and reprogram the computer to recognize the new type of lighting.

The wiring insulation is peeling around all of the wires in the headlight assembly. This is not a serviceable part, but the light bulbs are serviceable. This seems to pose a fire risk because bare conductors of opposite polarity are exposed to one another.

The wiringithin the xenon adaptive headlight assembly on the left and right side of the 2006 bmw 530i has extreme wiring insulation rot. The exposed wiring is extensive on all wires within the assembly on both sides with most of the wires now bare. This is creating a severe and dangerous safety and fire hazard. I will upload photos when i disassemble the car headlights again. The fire hazard was found when replacing an angel eye headlamp.

We have a 2006 bmw 530i in january of 2013 we had a ignition coil go out with around 75000 miles which was about a 275.00$ to get fixed. My airbag light came on for no reason one day and will not go off i initially got a recall paper for it but was unable to take it to the shop i van no longer find the paperbut the transmission is trash
The transmission has a harsh 2-1 shift down to stop.this happens at 5 mph and when the transmission is shifting from second gear to first gear.sometimes it is mild sometimes it is very rough as to move you and your head in the seat, as if another car tapped into the back of the car.sometimes the transmission will jerk while sitting at a traffic light or stop.i see reference to this phenomenon all over the web but when i approached a bmw service writer and explained this to him, he would not acknowledge that he was even aware of it.he would only say that they could look at my car but their policy is that they do not repair transmissions, they only replace them. So if there is any transmission operation out of the norm, it will be deemed for replacement. Did i still want them to look at it?a new transmission for my car is $8,000.00 and almost another $700.00 to program the computer to mate the new transmission with the car.blue book on my car is $9,000.00, therefore you could say it's totaled!bmw needs to stand behind this problem as it is not an isolated case.when i put the transmission in m+s mode the 2-1 shift down does not occur but there are rougher shifts going up through the gears. Either way it is a trade off and neither is a satisfactory result.
"takata recall" the car overheat, the dashboard show safety belt malfunction, when push the gas pedal sometimes jump, the car smell gasoline all he time, all the time show low limits of oil but the level of oil is correct.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 530i. The contact stated that the air bag and seat belt warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage was 142,000.updated 12/30/13

I recently purchased my 2006 530i. The airbag indicator showed a default so i took it my local dealership. I was told that there was a default in the mat sensor and it needs to be replaced at a cost of $781.72. I researched and found that there was a recall for this exact issue for my make, model and year. I contacted my local dealership as well as bmw north america customer service. I was told by both that my vin was not included in the recall so the repair is on me. I also see that many other owners have had this same issue. Clearly there is a problem that bmw needs to correct.
I was driving on the street with my music in low when i noticed the driver car seat getting hot. I hadn't turned on the heated seats and i touched the passengers seat and it was cool. It was to hit for me to drive i had to sit coward so my back wouldn't touch the seat. It was so uncomfortable and dangerous. I've read a lot of comments of people having this happen to them. I have a 2006 bmw 530i
Hello nhtsa, recall regarding my issue has already been well documented / investigated with bothnhtsa and bmw.to summarize the issue is about a "passenger restraint malfunction" specifically the oc3 seat sensor mat faulty unit, which controls the front passenger airbags.
Passenger seat sensor faulty, airbag disabled. Faults are showing, and warning lights are on. I have called the dealer and bmw usa, both acknowledge an issue but insist my car is not covered. The vin is not on their roster. Bmw recalled 200,000 cars for this problem, in the same year and model. I now have the issue, and it is a clear safety concern for any who might ride in the car.

Engine oil from the brake vacuum pump may enter the brake vacuum line, possibly allowing oil to enter the brake booster. If engine oil enters the brake booster, it may damage the internal rubber membrane, causing it to develop leaks and possibly impair the brake power assistance system. The brakes will then only function with increased brake pedal pressure.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 530i. The contact stated that the brake vacuum pump was leaking oil into the power brake booster. The diagnosis was completed by an independent mechanic who specialized in bmw vehicles. The dealer (global imports bmw, 500 interstate n pkwy, atlanta, ga 30339, (800) 294-1853) was called and the contact was waiting to hear back. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 140,000.

My steering wheel is locked and so the car will not start.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 530i. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the power steering malfunctioned causing the steering wheel to lock and no warning lamp illuminated. The contact mentioned that the driver had to turn off and restarted the vehicle in or for the vehicle to resumed normal function. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 82,000.
Elv fault and now car won't start.there are many reports of this happening on this make and year of call..this should be a recal!!
Car stalled in traffic but would not restart due to a faulty steering wheel lock sensor. (elv)wheel was turned and would not move due to this electronic locking control sensor.bmw refuses to fix as a recall or safety issue.$1000 for new part.
The car was going at 20mph on a rainy day, all of a sudden it started to spin, after a couple of 360 degree turn it hit a pole and came to a halt. Airbags and side curtain bags deployed with driver side airbag popped into pieces. Driver has a minor injury to right hand.

The idrive navigation screen goes out and keeps flashing. At night it's a big distraction - as if a flashlight hits your peripheral vision intermittently. There are many who have faced this issue or are facing the same problem. This is a manufacturing defect in my view. I think it's about time that we, americans have a sharp bite as far as foreign car makers create expensive repairs due to its own failures. The main issue is that idrive control - ac - radio - navigation and very importantly heat and warning messages. Without it working you can't know what's wrong up to a greater extent. Most of the cars important aspects are controlled by this computer based system.
