I was driving my car and suddenly the restraint system malfunction light turned on and the seatbelt light turned on. I did not hit a bump or anything. There was no passenger currently sitting on the passenger seat when the light came on. I have tried sitting down on the passenger seat and put on my seat belt to see if it will go away but no luck. Also, the seat belt light will not go away even if i buckle the drivers seat and passenger seat belt.
Error code 93c8 - driver side front air bag sensor malfunction
Car has passenger restraint system malfuction since fabrication.was never handled. I am new owner and trying to get to the bottom of this.many people have this issue with this modell and apparently there was a recall for it but my vin doesnt fall under it. Very frustrating and dangerous.
Vehicle front passenger seat sensor mat (srs) failure. 2nd time this safety related sensor has failed. First time dealership replaced under warranty. Dealership wants to charge for replacement now. This is a safety related item and it has failed for the second time. I have researched and found that same item has been recalled for prior models and years. I believe this item shall be recalled.
During an automated car wash, the following warning displays: "fault in passenger restrain system affecting airbag, belt tensioner, or belt force limiter".the airbag and seat belt light become activated when this happens as well.the warning message will stay on for hours after the car gets moderately wet, either in a rain storm or a car wash.even if the car is turned off and then turned back on themessage and errors will persist.it takes about 8-10 hours for the error to go away.this happens consistently and is easily repeatable.the most recent occurrence was april 13, 2014, while driving through a rain storm.
I have a 2008 528i and i got an error message saying the passenger restraint system, or air bag had an error regardless of a passenger present or not any time that car is turned on. I researched it and it seems that this problem is quite common on bmws and i feel as its an issue with the production of the car and the repair should not be at the owner's expense.
Seat airbag sensor malfunctioning

Fault in passenger-restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner or belt-force limiter. This started happening a year ago after visiting dealership for oil change.i cannot have passenger next to me because we are afraid of malfunction in airbag system.
Restraint system malfunction warning periodically comes on while driving under normal driving conditions. This default deactivates airbags. Have taken to dealer to fix 4 times, and today they decided to charge a fee. This is an ongoing issue with my car and many others with recalls of the exact same model but 2 years older.
Air bag sensor for front passenger seat not working. Replaced once while vehicle under warranty. Same sensor malfunction again. Bmw will not replace unless i pay, cost of replacing sensor over 4,000.00. I believe it should be covered by bmw since same part is again not working.

Passenger side rear tail light (back up and turn signal) wire harness connector melted.per ntbsb and web search, numerous people have had exact same problem.dash indicated that first tail light failed, then back up light failed. Inspection showed melted wire connector. This is a manufacturing defect and safety issue that needs to be addressed.was nearly collided when making a right turn.
Permanent loss of functionality ofrear lamp functions tail, brake, turn-signal, reverse.
Headlight wiring inside headlight assembly is deteriorating badly. The protective coating is cracking and flaking off leaving the exposed copper core which in turn shorts out the lights. Possible fire hazard as well.

Headlights:wire insulation on head light cannon plugs is retracting from wires.this could cause an system electrical problem or fire.
On or about 25 may 2013, i started hearing a intermittent beeping sound inside the car, however there was no warning on the dash board screen therefore it was hard to trace the problem. The intermittent beeping would start and stop, while driving making me very nervous because i wasn't sure what was going to happen. The beeping sound changed to sound of something trying to reset itself like a reset pattern.next on 6 apr 2013, while inside a parking i thought i seen my right tail light blink on & off.then on 8 apr 2013, i notice my right tail was out, so i purchased and installed a new tail bulb but it didn't fix the problem. After researching, i found it was led problem and could only be fixed by a bmw shop.the bmw manual suggested taking the car to the bmw dealership, on 16 apr 2013 i took the carto i.g. Burton that's when their inspection found " right rear tail light is out ( found that ground wire is burnt and bulb holder is burnt) recommend replacing bulb holder and ground wire. It cost me $374.48 to have the problem fixed.
Driver side headlight went out, so i automatically assumed that the bull was blown. Went and bought $100 bull that controls the high beam and the low beams, replace the bulb, and the headlight still doesn't work. Took the ball back and got another bulb, and the headlight still doesn't work. As i was replacing the bulb i noticed bare wires showing, on multiple wires, as far as i could see. This is definitely a safety issue , as it could cause my car to catch fire.
The warning came on that the right rear tail light malfunctioned. Within the next few days the warning went away but then came back intermittently and also stated that the right rear brake light and turn signal had malfunctioned. These warnings go on and off so my husband pulled the housing for the light out and discovered the connector plug and housing had melted becausethe brown wire was burnt and melted. So he went to the dealer ship to get another housing unit and new connector to fix the problem.and a few months later the other side had the same issue and he replaced it as well... Now both are burnt again.i called the dealer ship to take my car in for this issue and they want $140 to look at it and they said they have not heard of this issue before. This is a safety issue and now that i look online it looks like a lot of people with this year, make and model have the same thing going on.this needs to be a recall. I feel like this will keep happening since both have been replaced already and it's happening again. Something is wrong.
I have a 2008 bmw 528i with 56,000 miles with a certified pre-owned warranty (the full factory warranty expired less than a year ago).the vehicle computer identified 3 faults and the entire rear passenger tail light cluster is non-operational.i attempted to replace the bulbs and the issue was not resolved.i then took the vehicle to a bmw dealer for diagnosis and repair; i was surprised when the advisor informed me the issue is not covered under warranty (cpo) and will cost $400+ to repair.the rear lights are a critical safety component for any automobile and must be operational at all times.i am disappointed that this repair will not be covered under the cpo warranty.i chose to contact bmw and challenge the warranty coverage based on the component criticality.bmw did not agree with my position and stated the repair will not be covered by bmw.upon further inspection of the vehicle and tail light assembly i identified that a wire has shorted and melted several plastic parts relating to the tail light cluster.both the light housing and the wire adapter are no longer operational due to the burned area.i am lucky this electrical short did not start a fire because it is located close to the battery and gas port.i performed a quick search online and realized several other bmw 5-series owners have experienced the very same issue with their vehicles.
Rear exterior lights(brake, tail, & turn signal) - melted wire assembly is causing malfunction. While driving i noticed a "burning" smell. Shortly thereafter, all at once my dash indicated that my passenger side tail light, brake light, and turn signal had simultaneously malfunctioned. The wiring harness that attaches to the light assembly is melted.bmw did a recall of over 2,500 3-series vehicles for the exact same issue but has not recalled the 5-series (????) this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed.
Feels like the brakes on and it pulls to the passenger side where it feels like the wheel is going to come off and the passenger seat belt is locked where it won't extended out to buckle and the car dog walks back and forth while driving
The 8 pin connector to the rear light assembly melted. Turn signal, brake light stopped working while i was driving on the freeway.
Wiring inside headlight assemblies flaking off leaving bare wires.
Warning came on that the right rear tail light malfunctioned. Within the next few days the warning went away but then came back intermittently and also stated that the right rear brake light and turn signal had malfunctioned. These warnings were intermittent. About a week later the signals came on every time the car was driven. I looked at the lighting housing and discovered that both the plug and housing had melted due to a brown wire. I will be taking the car to the shop tomorrow to get fixed but it seems more damage could have been done unless i discovered the existence of the problem.
Wiring of front headlights flaking off and exposing bare wire.the short of the wires caused the plastic of holding headlamp to bubble and melt as a consequence.
Insulation covering headlight wiring cracks off leaving large amounts of bare areas. This resulted in electrical shorts, draining battery, erratic electrical system behavior, blown headlight bulbs, and an intermittent burning smell in my car.
2008 bmw 528i automatic sedan with 104k miles...head light wiring harness (driver side and passenger side) insulation is degrading resulting in bulbsmalfunctioning/burning out regularly/shorting out/blown fuses, and possibly an electrical fire.an employees at one bmw dealership, said bmw is aware of the issue and refuses to address the issue' until they are forced to by the government or a lawsuit.
Insulation of the wires in the head light assembly flaking off.almost all of it is now missing.worried it will cause a fire.smells like it is burning.
I turned my car on and it instantly notified me that my taillight was out. Then i stepped out and tapped the taillight and it went back on then i took it to the dealership the next day now they are saying the connectors are burnt and they want me to pay 200$ to repair something that the manufacture should of corrected and perfected this is ridiculous hope someone helps me.
All of the internal headlight wiring insulation on both headlights is crumbling off which is exposing the copper wire, causing sparks and shorting out. I have performed much online research and apparently this is a known problem by bmw. Currently it's a huge safety issue because it's unpredictable when headlights will short out while driving, losing sight of the road and possibly increasing risk of accident.
The vehicle is made with inferior wire coating that can and i'm sure has resulted in fires. Not to mention the features of the lights can and will stop working unexpectedly. This also causes shorts in the wiring of the switch in the dash i believe and possible battery drain leaving people stranded or even having car die while in motion. Bmw had my car for 3 weeks trying to figure out all their other faulty issues - they finally had their head foreman take the car home with him and go over it with a fine tooth comb. He fixed most of the issues. They had sent me home with my car 3 or 4 times telling me my issues were resolved only for the car to stall, smell like burning rubber or just not start. They were also aware of the faulty wiring but did not list it as an item of eminent concern - however after taking car to another mechanic for a blown bulb a month later they expressed to me the extreme fire hazard the vehicle wiring posed and that because of the nature (or problematic design rather) of bmw they were not at liberty to delve into such matters. Bmw is the utmost morally reprehensible auto maker i have ever encountered from start to finish. My lights went out while driving and i was almost hit by a driver in a large escalade around dusk a week ago. What's worse is when i took vehicle to bmw i was also having them fix the tail light recall that is prone to cause fires. I have never met more incompetent people. You do not get what you pay for.
Car power suddenly stops without warning. Usually happens when i'm either driving or when i am idle; when driving it just stops, and when i am in idle, it vibrates vigorously and then stops.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 528i. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 12v126000 (electrical system:battery:cables). An authorized dealer was contacted and stated that the parts needed to perform the recall repair were on a national back order. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the parts were not yet available. The failure mileage was 32,000.

I live in the state of virginia. I have been experiencing the same issues with my 2008 bmw for about a month now. My coworker has the same year make and model, and is also experiencing or has experienced the same issues. We both have had our cars in the shop at the same time and the vehicles are now repaired. The issue with the vehicle is it begins to stall as driving which is dangerous in our area for traffic. The car will not pick up speed while driving and you can not go over 10 miles per hour. The car also jerks. The problems with both our vehicles were the same ; oil leak, a transmission leak, and a problem with the cylinders not working as connected to the spark plugs. As i previously stated this is an extremely dangerous driving conditions. And times when you need to accelerate the car stalls which almost causes the car behind you to run into you.the maintenance for my car was 3200 dollars at the dealership. My coworker took her car to an import repair shop and over the course of 2 times, she ended up spending about 1200 plus dollars. Please look into this matter as i don't think people are reporting it to the right authority.

My car is liking oil by the engine cover gasket and is doing it on top of the exhaust, this give the car a smell like burning rubber. I was looking online and bmw says thatthis is normal for a car. I was doing a research and i came across hyundai recalled veracruz 07-12 for the same issue. Looks like bmw don't care about their products... I want this to be fix , free of charge in one of their dealers...

I was driving in the highway when my bmw started shaking and when i pulled over to the side and opened my hood the engine was on fire.
Oil sensor light failed, indicating full oil fill and engine locked up on highway nearly causing serious accident.shop says engine had no oil, yet gauge says full. There are no dipsticks on this model.the gauge actually shows the amount of oil and is the only way to rely on anything.
Car started smoking. Repair shop said it's a problem with pcv valve and if over heated can cause fire.
I have 2 different issues.the 1st one is when i try to accelerate quickly my check engine light comes on and my care starts to shake.today while my car was parked my car had shook and then my engine sign popped up and it gave me a message that said "engine malfunction engine has lost power.

Oil dripping from valve cover on to exaust manifold. Potential fire hazard. Valve cover bolts broken, oil leaking.
Ground wire for passenger side tail light burned up. Ground wire, both sides of electrical connector, and tail light bulb holder all burned up. Passenger side brake light, tail light, turn signal and back up light do not function at all. Improperly rated fuse did not blow before circuit burned up and melted. This circuit is not designed correctly. This is a safety hazard to myself and anyone driving behind me. Car model is a 2008 528i.
Low beam and fog light malfunction. I'm not a mechanic, but it looks to me like the casing around the wires is just disintegrating and may be arching. I tried electrical tape to try to insulate them, but to no avail. I've never seen such a thing happen. After looking around for recalls, i found no recalls on this subject, but found plenty of complaints about it. The malfunction is not constant, but is about 90% of the time. I have learned a way around it by moving the headlight dial to a different position. I'm due for an oil change now, so will have the dealer check it now that i'm going in for something else. But i'm guessing i'm going to be stuck with a hefty repair bill for something that was a design flaw.
Had to replace a headlight bulb and a turn signal bulb.when opening the headlight assembly to access the two bulbs much of the insulation on the wiring inside the headlight assembly just crumbled away into very tiny pieces and dust, which fell into the bottom of the assembly.it's as if the wire insulation has dried out and failed in the eight years since the car was manufactured.now most of the wiring is just bare and exposed.the wiring can't be accessed from outside and the headlight assembly does not come apart.i am very concerned about the wiring short circuiting and possibly causing a fire in the headlights.i'm 68 years and have owned 13 different cars from american and german manufacturers.i have never encountered anything like this.i think there is a manufacturing defect in the headlight assembly wiring. I contacted bmw about this and they would not do anything about this problem.i think this may be a significant defect that could affect the safety of the car.i have done some searching on the internet and have found that this is a very common problem in this series of bmw cars.bmw won't aknowledge a problem and won't provide any assistance other than to suggest that i buy new headlight assemblies from them which were made with the same poor quality wiring.
Replaced headlight bulb, passenger side, for the second time, within the past year, and about the fifth time (driver side and passenger side; headlight bulb and angel eye bulb) since we have owned the vehicle (purchased certified pre-owned from a bmw dealership, houston, tx).and the cause of the problem is inferior wiring insulation.the wiring insulation is deteriorating causing the bulbs to prematurely burn out and a possible fire hazard.the replacement bulbs are purchased from a local bmw store.they are not non-oem bulbs and they are not cheap.bmw needs to replace the entire headlight unit.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 528i. The contact stated that the passenger's side turn signal and all of exterior lightning would not function upon engaging. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The vehicle was repaired however the contact was not aware of the exact repairs. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 13v407000 (exterior lighting) however, the contact's vin was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The failure mileage was unavailable.

Headlights.... Angel eyes both sides burned off problem with electric sockets i would think!!!this is happening too a lot of bmw as reserch!
Headlight wiring insulation is flaking off and leaving exposed, uninsulated wires which can short out and cause malfunctions in the headlights, turn signals, parking lights, and daytime running lights.
I purchased a used 2008 bmw 528i mid-january of 2017. It was well maintained, a single owner vehicle with just over 60k miles. It has a clean carfax and a well documented history of regular maintenance at a bmw dealership in orlando, fl. After having the vehicle for just over 3 weeks, the passenger side day time running lamp went out. I received a "malfunction indicator lamp" (mil) on the dash so i investigated. Being at home and the vehicle in the garage, i removed the cover to the associated bulb, i noticed bare wiring that was associated with the plug-in connector (there are two wires). I thought this unusual and strange. I subsequently replaced the bulb but that did not repair the fault. Since the insulation on the faulty wiring was in contact with each other, it was providing a ground and shorting out the bulb. This could represent a potential for causing a fire and hazardous situation. Further research via the internet (forums), i was astounded at the amount of consumers who have expressed concern to bmw about this problem. Hella is the manufacturer of the headlight assembly for bmw. I am unsure at this time if bmw has expressed concern to hella of the potential liability associated with their substandard wiring in the headlight assembly. It appears over a 5-8 year period of use that the insulation is being subjected to high temperatures that cause brittleness, fractures and finally degradeto where the wiring becomes exposed. Bmw is aware of this issue but does not appear concerned or motivated to resolve this problem. I am sure that there concerns revolve around profit margins, but i feel where safety is of concern, money should not be the reason for not correcting a problem. I respectfully request that investigation be conducted in order to discern the potential impact to consumers should this problem not be corrected by the manufacturer.
Wiring inside headlight assemblies flaking off leaving bare wires.
The 8 pin connector to the right rear light assembly melted. Turn signal, brake light stopped working one wire seems corroded.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 528i. The contact stated that the inside of the headlight housing became abnormally foggy. The bulb also looked as if it was foggy and busted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacture was not notified about the possible default. The failure mileage was 78,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.
When i attempted to install new low beam, high beam, and angel eye bulbs i discovered that all the protective coating on the wires inside the headlight assembly was missing or crumbling off.these exposed wires are a certain fire hazard.any attempt to repair the wire coating resulted in more coating crumbling off, exposing yet more of the wire.
Insulation covering headlight wiring cracks off leaving large amounts of bare areas. This resulted in electrical shorts, draining battery, erratic electrical system behavior, blown headlight bulbs, and an intermittent burning smell in my car.
Headlights:wire insulation on head light cannon plugs is retracting from wires.this could cause an system electrical problem or fire.
Headlight wiring inside headlight assembly is deteriorating badly. The protective coating is cracking and flaking off leaving the exposed copper core which in turn shorts out the lights. Possible fire hazard as well.
Headlamp wiring and connector has crumbled off leaving bare wires exposed and shorting out with possibility of causing fire.
Suddenly right sided headlight went out, i opened the headlight cover to change the bulb. Found all the wiring was crumbled and the coating was melted. Headlight came back on. Since then it happens a lot. I called bmwna to complaint about it and they said i have to open complaint with nhtsa. This has been reported by other bmw 528i 2008 owners. This is hazardous issue as open wires can potentially catch fire in headlight. Same problem in tail light initiated recall last year.
Permanent loss of functionality ofrear lamp functions tail, brake, turn-signal, reverse.
The grounding wire in the connector to the tail light bulb holder melted and melted parts of the connector. This resulted in no signal, brake and running rear lights. A recall has been called for bmw e46 3 series for this exact problem. The recall should be expanded to cover the 5 series as well.
The 8 pin connector to the rear light assembly melted. Turn signal, brake light stopped working while i was driving on the freeway.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 528i. The contact stated that the driver side brake light and turn signal failed to illuminate when engaged. A warning indicator for the rear driver side exterior lighting illuminated. In addition, the turn signal indicator flickered rapidly on the instrument panel, but failed to illuminate on the exterior of the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repair. The contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v407000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 170,000.

On 01/26/2018 i went to east bay bmw because of the pcv valve heater recall campaign b 11 16 17i was given a long term rental from enterprise car rentalbut had to store my vehicle at my home while waiting for the parts for the recall repair. After 4 months i was notified to return for the repair on 04/30/2018 east bay returned the car. With-in 2 day's i was having the o2 sensor replaced from a certified bmw mechanic and after examination he informed me the recall campaign was not performed according bulletin. Original parts from the alternator were still on my car and had never been removed. Removing the alternator and replacing the bolts, checking/replacingparts for damage was never performed. I returned to east bay the following saturdayto confront the manager working his name is [xxx], he admitted to have a mechanic who could reach to replace the valve heater without removal of the other parts specified in the campaign. The intake is an alternate route for the repair but would compromise my engine. I placed a call to bmw usa and told them what happened and parts/paperwork returned by east bay for the recall were still on my car and a emission proof of correction was never received. I would return to east bay and speak with the store service manager [xxx]. I informed him what happened and request to have the recall re-done at a dealer of my choice, have a smog test, receive proof of correction at his cost. I also had him warrantmy engine for 2 additional yrs for compromising my engine as he could not demonstrate the way they did the recall when i requested. My car went to bmw of sf for recall to be done according to the bulletin,i have attached invoices, proof of correction, smog test, engine warranty and method of payment from east bay. I smell gas and its strongi don't see any leaks of any kind and when i put gas in the car i don't see leaks, but i smell gas even if i haven't put gas in.
Car gas haven't been as usual took car for oil chang rotation of tires. Discovered gas leakage. Looking at possible fuel line or pump.
Car power suddenly stops without warning. Usually happens when i'm either driving or when i am idle; when driving it just stops, and when i am in idle, it vibrates vigorously and then stops.
The car started to leak gas from the tank.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 528i. The contact stated that the vehicle vibrated severely after shifting into drive and the power train was not operational. After the third attempt to operate the vehicle, it shifted into neutral independently and the "service vehicle, no power train was detected" warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
There is a very strong fuel odor coming from the rear driver side of vehicle at all times that i notice upon opening the driver door.
Gas leakage had to be replaced.
My car had an fuel leak which had to be repaired asap
Fuel sending unit cracked leaking fuel and smell. Replaced at bmw dealership.

When the car is running gasoline smell enters the car cabin.no visual leaks at engine but if air vent is not drawing fresh air no smell is evident. When turning the car off and exiting the vechile the fuel odor is present for short while.
Strong gasoline odor was detected in our garage. Upon checking our classic automobile and ruling it out we then realized it was our 2008 bmw 528i with 61,800 original miles on it. The odor was both inside and outside the car. We had to remove the car from the garage where it normally parks near a gas water heater so as to avoid possible ignition within the confines of our garage. I then searched on the inter net : "why does my 2008 bmw 528i smell like gas all the sudden", to my surprise there were hundreds of posts within bimmer forums and otherwise regarding this very issue. What gave me pause is that in my situation as with many others, an engine and or emissions fault code was never sent to the main screen for the operator to identify and take it in for repairs. I called bmw north america and gave this information and asked if any recalls or bulletins were recorded and was told there weren't. I then called my local bmw dealership here in tucson, az. And was told by the service advisor there was in fact a note regarding the char coal canister being unable to process the gasoline fumes when outside temperatures reach or exceed 100-101 degrees farenheit. It has been in that range here now for the past few weeks. I now as of 28 july 2016 have my car in the bmw shop for repairs and what they found was the fuel sending unit is leaking through the top of the tank and a puddle of gas has formed. Again why no engine codes when a sealed system faults and leaks and a known issue like the char coal canister exists. My hope is that this agency investigates and issues a recall notice. I am going to be charged $700.00+ for an issue which is widely known of across the web and which my dealership found not all that unusual. Thank you.
Hello i'm reporting in regards to an issue with my vehicle. For approximately the past month i have an issue with a gasoline smell coming from my vehicle. I first thought i was over filling so changed the amount of gas i put in the vehicle. That still didn't stop the smell from coming back. So i decided to schedule my vehicle for an appointment. As a result the service advisor stated they smelled it but was not able to find a leak. I drove home without a strong smell but by the time i arrived to the destination it was evident again. I contacted a few other bmw authorized dealers and talked with service advisors and they said they never heard of such issue/concern. At one dealership the advisor hung up on me while i was explaining it.i read a few articles where other bmw owners experienced the same issue, some who cars caught on fire. This made me believe there is a defect that causes this issue. So i contacted bmw of north america and was told by joey there is nothing they could do. I explained to him that i can't keep paying diagnostic fees for them to determine nothing is wrong. I had it escalated and was told by kayla that i need to take it to a dealership.never was i offered to have it checked for free. I understand i'm out of warranty but to be responsible for paying for diagnostic procedures without being told an issue exists is robbery. I just want my car concern resolved before anyone is injured or harmed as a result of the issue.
I notice my car taking longer to start with the push bottomthen i notice a strong smell of gas while the ac started so i checked under the hood and the smell got stronger. So now i want to now why it's happening.thankbuou

The contact owns a 2008 bmw 528i. The contact stated that the transmission failed without warning while driving 70 mph on the outside lane of i-75. The contact coasted the vehicle to the inside lane of i-75 and was able to exit the highway. The vehicle was taken to albany bmw in albany, ga where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 172,000.
Transmission failed on two occasions.first time was on interstate 95.the car stalled in middle of traffic and i was lucky in pulling car onto shoulder.warning message came on to indicate a transmission failure and that the car should be taken to a bmw dealer to be fixed. When this occurs the car stalls and must be pulled over to the road shoulder.this electric transmission is problematic and a safety issue because when the car stalls you must be able to pull off the road; if not you could be killed, especially when traveling on the interstate.the car was taken to a bmw dealer to be fixed.however, the same transmission incident happened february 4, 2012 and i was caught in traffic nearly had an accident.this problem occurs at moderate and high speeds.my concern is that i could be killed if i am unable get the stalled car pulled to the shoulder off the road.
For the past 8 months, my car, a 2008 bmw 528i slips out of drive (d) into park (p) as i was backing up & moving forward either from a parking position or as i begin to accelerate from a stop.the gear shift would go from (d) into (p) and cause the car to jerk to a rapid stop.it makes a horrible noise as it grinds to a stop.it requires me to put it back into park and turn it off sometimes and then start it again.i thought i might be doing something wrong until i read all these other posts so i haven't reported it til now.this creates a dangerous situation and i always start slow now fearful that it will jump into p at a higher rate of speed.i could be in a parking lot or anywhere, moving backward or forward when this happens.
Driving about to parking when the car just stop working completely my children and i where stranded in the middle of the street . Then it wouldturn on but i was unable to put gear in drive or reverse . Had it towed we thought it was the transmission because transmission light went on but took it to a repair shop the tech stated that it was not the transmission but the problem could possibly be the shifter .
For the past month,my car, a 2008 bmw 528 ix (automatic) would slip out of drive (d) into park (p) as i was accelerating forward from a dead stop.the electronic gear shift mechanism would do this approximately 10% of the time, and cause the car to jerk to a stop.it would require me to put it back into drive and start again.at first i thought i might be doing something wrong,so i didn't report it immediately.however,it kept happening. This created a dangerous situation,as sometimes i was in an intersection when this occurred.a few weeks later (before i had chance to take it in for service), the gear shift stopped working completely, and the car would not shift into gear at all.the gear shift mechanism is an electronic part, not a mechanical connection.i called bmw,and they said the part wasnot covered by any warranty or recall(the car was 5k miles out of warranty).i had to pay for the repair,a $1300 expense.
I have a hard time accelerating
When at a stoplight or stop sign, the car will shut off and the transmission goes into neutral.
For the past month, my car, a 2008 bmw 528 i (automatic) would slip out of reverse (r) into park (p) as i was accelerating backward from a dead stop. The steptronic gear shift mechanism would do this approximately 30% of the time, and cause the car to jerk to a stop. It would require me to put it back into drive and start again. Eventually as i keep driving and i'm at a stop light or sitting idle, the "transmission malfunction" message would pop up on my lcd and then the gearwould go into neutral and stop driving all together. This created a dangerous situation, as sometimes i was in an intersection when this occurred. The gear shift mechanism is faulty!
In my 2008 528i i was experiencing the same as many others where if you are at a complete stop and you go to accelerate the car doesn't respond right away and you naturally apply more gas and then the car jumps ahead of you. If you were to move to the d/s position, the car was perfect and you didn't experience any lag in acceleration, seems pedal has to be pressed more than it should before getting an immediate throttle response. Like a small dead spot, i suppose. Only in normal mode. No lag in sport mode. Response is immediate.it has scared me a few times when pulling out from a stop sign into traffic, thinking you have plenty of time and ease onto the accelerator only to find yourself moving like a snail, then having to stomp on it to get moving as traffic nears.
The contact owns a 2008 bmw 528i. The contact stated that while in reverse, the vehicle stalled and the vehicle independently shifted into park. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic for diagnostic testing and was advised that there was a leak and crack in the transmission oil pan and the electronic sleeve. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000.
Air bag sensor for front passenger seat not working. Replaced once while vehicle under warranty. Same sensor malfunction again. Bmw will not replace unless i pay, cost of replacing sensor over 4,000.00. I believe it should be covered by bmw since same part is again not working.
Car has passenger restraint system malfuction since fabrication.was never handled. I am new owner and trying to get to the bottom of this.many people have this issue with this modell and apparently there was a recall for it but my vin doesnt fall under it. Very frustrating and dangerous.
I have a 2008 528i and i got an error message saying the passenger restraint system, or air bag had an error regardless of a passenger present or not any time that car is turned on. I researched it and it seems that this problem is quite common on bmws and i feel as its an issue with the production of the car and the repair should not be at the owner's expense.
Feels like the brakes on and it pulls to the passenger side where it feels like the wheel is going to come off and the passenger seat belt is locked where it won't extended out to buckle and the car dog walks back and forth while driving
Restraint system malfunction warning periodically comes on while driving under normal driving conditions. This default deactivates airbags. Have taken to dealer to fix 4 times, and today they decided to charge a fee. This is an ongoing issue with my car and many others with recalls of the exact same model but 2 years older.
Upon turning the seat heater on i noticed a burning smell and smoke inside the car. The seat was unusually hot. I felt a burning sensation and pulled over to find that the seat heating element had burned through the leather and two layers of a heavy duty winter coat.when i turned it off the smoke stopped. We took the car to the bmw dealership and was told it is not part of a safety recall or under warranty. Refused any monetary consideration and wanted $1400 to repair. Considering the car could catch on fire the repair should be considered a safety issue and repaired for free.
Air bag sensor for front passenger seat not working. Replaced once while vehicle under warranty. Same sensor malfunction again. Bmw will not replace unless i pay, cost of replacing sensor over 4,000.00. I believe it should be covered by bmw since same part is again not working.
My seat was smoking and soon to catch fire if i hadn't caught this. What should i do to resolve this issue?

When driving last week, we heard heavy clunking sounds. We took the car to a mechanic to investigate the noise, and he identified the the frame sway bar mount had sheered off where the sway bar to frame mount is. The mechanic asked if the car had been in an accident. We bought it used in 2012, and there was no report of an accident. Since we have had it, we haven't had an accident either.
Car gas haven't been as usual took car for oil chang rotation of tires. Discovered gas leakage. Looking at possible fuel line or pump.
My 2008 528i has a delay in acceleration when making a turn into traffic.the car will start to shake and jerk as i lightly apply the gas pedal.the enigine light has come twice during an acoourence and then went out as i continued to drive.just had the car at the dealership and they found no faults with the car or any codes.i find it to be a safety hazzard because as i stated before, i'm in traffic and as i turn left/right, im unable to move while the traffic behind me is apporaching.

Car started smoking. Repair shop said it's a problem with pcv valve and if over heated can cause fire.
The car started to leak gas from the tank.
