Bmw 2000 model 528: driver's side airbag deployment without impact or inertial cause. No bumps, potholes or objects struck the vehicle. I was knocked out for ~to 8 seconds at 75 mph.
Engine overheated/radiator failed (after only 53000 miles),causing catastrophic damage to engine block and cylinder head. No instrument cluster indication of overheating. Engine had to be replaced at a cost of $9400.manufacturer's warranty ended at 50000 miles.
Abs module fail at 127,000 k. This stops my speedometer from working along with my (dcs) traction control, gas gauge and the brake go into emergency mode..
Abs control module fails ~ 5 minutes of starting the car.abs, stability control system, and speedometer all fail and stop functioning.control module must be replaced at a cost of ~$1500 to fix.

Computer that controls abs and stability on my bmw after several years fails as it is located in the engine compartment next to exhaust manifold/ cat converters. As a result the abs/stability system no longer functions. It is known issue on bmw five series 1997-2003. Many computers fail after years of service or high mileage. Brakes still function but without abs and there is no stability control (called dynamic stability control by bmw). The internal components fail because of heat in engine compartment.
The contact owns a 2000 bmw 528i. The contact was driving and came to a stop, when smoke was seen coming from the passenger side of the hood. There was a cracking sound then flames was seen coming from under the hood. The contact and the passenger exited the vehicle. The contact stated attempted to extinguish the flames but could not. The fire department was called and was able to extinguish the fire. There were no injurie. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot and deemed a total loss. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 283,000.
Car stalled multiple times on the road and in the middle of the intersection.the ability to accerlate decreased also.
The radiator blew for no know reason.this caused damage to the engine and cooling system. Estimate of repairs $16,000.

Radiator neck failure.
Cold start issues.car wants to stall upon start up.when car finally warms up the idle smoothes out.the gas mileage is dropping due the malfunctioning seals in the double vanos system.bmw has known about this problem for a long time and they refuse to do anything about it.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 40 mph on normal road conditions the temperature gauge indicated overheating.the vehicle was taken to an independent certified mechanic who determined the head gasket burned out due to overheating.the overheating was created by the a cooling system leak in the overflow plastic tank.
2000 bmw 528 idles rough in cold climates (2002/2003).this produces no check engine lights.the problem goes away once the car is warmed up or in warmer climates.dealer constantly states "problem unreproducable".after numerous visits i left the car overnight at dealership and the following morning went back, grabbed a technician and had him sit in the car with me.afterwards technician said it's probably a part called the vanos unit.had part replaced then problem went away.this winter (2003/2004), problem resurfaced.
I have a complaint against farmers auto insurance.i had an accident on 3/8/2007 in los gatos, california. A car hit the rear part of my bmw. My insurance company, farmers insurance,repaired my car and replaced the muffler with one that is not bmw compatible. The other party's insurance companyhas paid in full my, and farmers',costs. When i called the farmers' agent requesting a bmw muffler, farmers insists they can not do it.i feel my car has been downgraded - it has less value, because of this low quality repair requirement from farmers. The contact noticed smoke coming from the front of the vehicle and discovered that the front passenger side headlight was on fire.a store employee extinguished the fire. The fire department was not contacted. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 198,000.

While in my garage exiting the vehicle, the interior driver's door handle broke off into my hand, making it impossible to exit the vehicle from the drivers seat unless the window was rolled down.upon inspection, it was determined that the handle was entirely made of plastic.the car was taken to niello bmw in sacramento, ca for replacement at the owner's cost.owner has possession of the broken handle.

Passenger's side shoulder belt will get jammed in the retracter, causing loss of protection. Dealer has replaced seatbelt mechanism, but defect keeps occurring.shoulerbelt lock up occurs with any movement on passenger side. Almost to a point of choking thepassenger.
As i was driving my beloved 2000 bmw 528i on 11/9/2018 at 2:15 pm, on route 12 south in duck, nc, traveling at approximately 35 mph, smoke began pouring from the underside of the driver's seat.the heated seats were not turned on.no dashboard warning lights were on, except for a rear tail light indicator that had appeared within the last week.i had just driven through a rain shower, so the headlights were on, but i had turned the wipers off.i pulled the car over and immediately turned the ignition off.i got out to look under the front seat but there was nothing under the seat that was causing a problem.when i was on the phone with the 911 operator, flames started coming from under the seat.the duck nc police were on the scene almost immediately and attempted to us a fire extinguisher, but the seat kept burning.the duck nc fire department was just a few hundred yards down the road and when the arrived they filled the front seat with water.as i was clearing my possessions out of the car, i notice the headlights were still on, so i turned them off. Although the car had approximately 145,000 miles on it, i was the original owner and i had kept it in mint condition.i had a professionalmechanic perform the maintenance work.in september of 2018, the battery had been replaced with a new bmw battery.other than maintenance work, the car had never had any engine components fail or electrical issues.it was a great vehicle.pictures of the burnt seat and the driver's side door are included.

The design of the abs controller on a 2000 bmw 528i is prone to failure and will render the abs functions inoperable.this is an extremely common problem on this series of bmw automobiles.the failure starts with various warning lights that indicate the abs system is inoperable.these failures can be intermittent and it appears to be related to heat as the controller is mounted inside the engine compartment very near the exhaust system.once failed the faulty abs computer can cause and does cause the failure of the speed sensors mounted on the wheels.i replaced a bad wheel sensor at a cost of $93 and within 30 minutes of driving the brand new wheel sensor went bad (resistance measurement of the original bad wheel sensor was 4.4m ohm while the resistance measurement of the new wheel sensor was 8.8m ohm.after 30 minutes of driving the dashboard mounted warning lights came back on and the resistance measurement of the brand new wheel sensor was 4.4m ohm and further troubleshooting indicated a faulty abs computer).upon opening of the abs computer to investigate it was discoverd that the design of the priinted circuit card uses poor reliability mechanical design properties for a unit that is exposed to extreme temperature variations and high vibration.this is a widely reported problem with these cars but bmw and bosch (abs computer manufacturer) refuse to acknowledge the problem and provide remedy for affected owners.this problem is dangerous as the entire abs could fail at any time reducing the stopping power of the car entirely or intermittently.this is a big safety defect in these cars and by ignoring the problem both bmw and bosch are putting drivers and property at risk.

The steering wheel of the car became 'free spin' with no control on the wheels while the car was make a turn. Apparently, the steering wheel rod broke. The car is bmw 538i year 2000 purchased brand new. Win number: [xxx]. The shifter on the console will hang up get stuck often when i put it in reverse then from reverse to drive it won't shift all the way to drive it keeps stopping in neutral now while it's in neutral i can pull back on the shifter and hold it it will catch drive partially but u have to keep pulling back on the shifter and hold it but it doesn't go all the way in drive it's just on the front edge and if u let go of the shifter it drops back into neutral it's a safety hazard cause u cant go forward to get out of the way of other motorists especially in an emergency it takes a few minutes of pushing the shifter forward into park and then pulling the shifter back to drive after a couple minutes of doing this it will eventually go into drive and it seems to be getting worse at times and sometimes it won't even shift out of park without having to wiggle the shifter back and forth and then pulling the shifter back with twice the force that u would normally use to shift it out of park this has happened multiple times backing out of my driveway and directly onto a main road i live on and its happened in parking lots when trying to leave a restaurant or gas station etc.
I recently purchased a 2000bmw 528i through the oversea military sales progr am in the republic of korea. The car was manufactured to u.s. Specification and i intend to take this car to the u.s. On feb 24, 2001, at the shindong-a shopping plaza parking lot in yongsan-ku, my husband chong s. Park was involved in an accident when he was parking the car. While proceeding backward at minimum speed, the car suddenly accelerated with exploding noise and hit the wa of the building, causing considerable damage to both my car and the property.
