The car with vin number stated above has reported a malfunction in the passenger side airbag.nhtsa recall id # 08v384000 - air bags:frontal" shows that the bmw 530i, model years 2004-2006 has been recalled to specifically address this issue.however, upon arriving at bmw of roseville (california),i was told that the recall does not apply to my car specifically (despite the description in the recall itself), and that i would be required to pay $175 for a diagnosis fee, and then be fully responsible for the cost of repairs.this is a significant safety issue that currently has my family's lives at risk, but the service department at roseville bmw was completely disinterested.realizing that i would get no help from bmw of roseville, i have since taken this issue up with niello bmw in sacramento.they have been more helpful, but there is still the issue of the vin number. If for some reason this automobile was excluded from the recall despite being the make, model, and model year described in the recall, it was excluded in error.
One day while driving, my car had an alert come on the i drive saying the passenger restraint system was malfunctioning. It stayed on a few months and then went away for a few months. Now the problem is occurring again.
The airbag warning lamp comes on periodically.there was a recall, but it only covered to november22 of 2005 production and my car was produced in december of 2005.
On my bmw 2006 530i,the passenger airbag warning light indicating a restraint failure.i saw a recall on the nhtsa web site (campaign id 08v384000) covering the 2004- 2006 model year bmw 5 series with this exact problem. My vehicle was built in may 2005. I contacted bmw usa to report the safety failure.bmw said it was not covered and has refused to offer any assistance.i asked them to explain why if my vehicle, is in the middle model years and experiencing the same problem, why the recall does not apply.their reply, bmw will not honor the recall, it's my problem.this is a safety issue that could cause injury or death.please review this campaign id and expand or issue a new recall.bmw would not help me in this matter. Thank you for reviewing this safety concern,
I bought the car it had an oil leak, radiator leak, developed an air bag malfunction, the engine stopped running, tar is accumulating on top of the sunroof every time i open it, the heater fan makes noise, the transmission makes noise after four attempts it is still leaking oil.all of my friends who own bmw's have also had air bag malfunctions.none were part of the recall, all paid $1,300.00 to have it fixed.bmw should have recalled all of them.the purpose of recalling some is to avoid a total recall. They are building their cars with inferior parts so that they do not last for more than 60,0000 before major problems occur.one of my friends has spent over $10,000 on repairs to his 2004 x3.
My car is not on the airbag recall list but i have had this error for awhile now & it appears to be related to the airbag issue (not sure if my car has a tekata.)the message comes up on the screen- pass. Restraint system- fault in passenger-restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner or belt force limiter. Continue to wear the safety belt.i also have a picture of the error.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 525i.while driving approximately 10 mph, the contact's wife began to feel dizzy.the next thing she remembered is smoke appearing under the hood and she rear ended another vehicle.the air bags failed to deploy.the contact was injured and had to be transported to the hospital.the vehicle sustained damage to the front end.a police report was filed.there were no air bag recalls, but there is an open investigation regarding the air bags.the current and failure mileages were 14,500.
I own bmw 530xi ,ihave problem with the passenger air bag , light still on all time .i checked inthe web sidebmw have recall for this issue ,but i contact bmw ask me for the vin # ,i giving all number, but later they said to me my car not qualify for this issuei don't know why my car not qualify for this issue, i do not paid $ 1000, for this....let's bmw do this...thanks...
The passenger side occupancy seat mat for the airbag failed. Bmw has bulletin sib 65 75 06,airbag warning lamp for oc3 seat mat fault, that covers my cars build date, but bmw states my vin is not covered. There is also a current recall, nhtsa campaign number: 08v-384, but bmw states my car is not covered and refuses to honor the 10 year extended warranty. My car is experiencing this same issue, as diagnosed by a local bmw dealers, but they have failed to cover it. This is a major safety issue that is affecting many cars outside of the recall. They are many people posting on various bmw forums that are experiencing the same issue. Bmw should be held accountable to fix all the vehicles experiencing this problem.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw m5. The contact stated that the passenger's side air bag warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v384000. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 5 series. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the front passenger side seat mat would have to be replaced. The technician also informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v384000 (air bags). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
My passenger air bag warning light came on about a month ago for apparent reason and stay on ever since.i contacted the local bmw dealer and was told my vin was not on the recall list.i was very disappointed and dont understand why some cars were on the recall and some were not.apparently this is a common problem with all bmws and a very serious safety issue.this safety issue should be taken care of by the manufacture.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 5-series. The contact stated that the air bag light would illuminate intermittently. The dealers diagnosis indicated that the mat sensor was defective and explained that a recall related to the failure was not related tocampaign# 08v384000 (air bags:frontal); but the contacts vin was not a part of the recall. The vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 57,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.
My bmw 525i just received a passenger restraint failure error. I saw online wherethere is an active recall for this matter. Yet, when i contactedthe dealer and bmw usa, i was told the vehicle wasn't covered based on the vin number.this is not acceptable! my family is at stake here! the lives of myself and anyone i carry as a passenger risk harm. I ask that this be reviewed for it is a known flaw with this vehicle. Please contact me at [xxx] or phone at [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Front passenger seat occupancy detection mat had to be replaced as it was defective. Though not in previous recalls in similar bmws and similar years, the error presented a safety issue that would disable the front passenger air bags and increase the risk of injury during a crash. With this error, i was forced to repair the seat mat and expended $1.5k to remedy this safety issue.this seat mat issue is a known bmw problem that bmw and nhtsa have not addressed. Vin: [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 530i. The contact stated that the air bag warning lamp was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the passenger seat sensor was defective and need to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in the recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 08v384000 (component: air bags:frontal). The vin was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 91,000.
While driving, the passenger airbag warning light was on, and the airbag was disabled, although there is passenger sitting there.
I bought a used bmw from long island auto find. Before picking it up i told nick certain things needed to be done there was a drafty sound coming from the moon roof the center rims were corroded, bolts were missing from the valve cover. I was called three days in a row by nick who claimed everything was done and the car was ready to be picked up.when i got the re not only was the battery dead, nothing on my list was done!i have since had the car 5 month and i has been in the shop 5 weeks so far. Passenger side air bag malfunctionedand needed to be replaced. There was an oil leak that caused my eyes to water and leaves a funny taste in my mouth. This took three different attempts to fix. The car moves from side to side at 65 mph. The car just died while taking my wife to work.i brought it to the shop it did it on the mechanic but he could not determine the cause.he said it was safe to take to florida which is the reason i bought it. It stalled in florida while entering an intersection then again in delaware at 3:30 in the morning and 13 degrees! and again on the bqe as three lanes of traffic merged into one.i have 2 friends with the same car they were charged $1300 to fix the "air bag malfunction"everyone should be reimbursed.i am told the gaskets become brittle and leak.all of these issue's should be part of a recall.
Passenger restraint system fault light has started showing on my bmw, there has been a recall reported on the same component "statement on voluntary recall involving front passenger seat sensor mat on u.s.a. Model bmws - august 13, 2008". I have the same problem but my vin is not showing up in the recall. I took the car to dealer and dealer says its exactly the same part but i am not covered under recall warranty.
The passenger seat airbag malfunctioned casing the seat to have to be removed and sensor replaced.there was a recall on this but my car, and 2 of my friends cars were not included on the recall, my friends were charged by the dealership. My engine leaks oil onto the exhaust manifold causing smoke in the cab and potential fire hazard. On every bm i have ever owned the radiator leaks fluid which is environmentally hazardous and should have been recalled.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 5 series. The contact started the ignition and the front passenger's side air bag warning indicator began to illuminate continuously, although the seat was not occupied. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 08v384000 (air bags). The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle was involved in a 2 mph collision, and the driver air bag deployed with very low pressure, as if oozing out.there was no police report taken at the scene.the vehicle was taken to a private repair shop, where the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the problem.the manufacturer was also notified.
Front passenger air bag system failed due to faulty mat sensor.specific year, make and model are listed as covered on bmw recall/extended warranty(nhtsa claim ea08001) yet bmw usa continues to deny claim saying my car vin# does not qualify.i have a 2006 bmw 530i with comfort seats.the car was manufactured on 06/2005.dealer says not covered. Contacted bmw usa numerous times and spoke with three different cust service managers with each one stating my vin not covered. They can not tell me why my vin is not covered nor what criteria was used for excluding my car in the extended warranty.yet, it is the exact model year and seat type that is specifically listed in recall/extended warranty mentioned above and on the nhtsa website.i also have copy of letter to daniel smith (nhtsa) from jan urbahn(bmw) specifically stating my 2006 530i with comfort seat explicitly included in extended warranty.can provide letter on request. Please help.this is not right.bmw is not honoring nhtsa claim.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 525i. The vehicle was parked with the passenger seat occupied when the air bag warning light illuminated and remained illuminated. The failure was ongoing for approximately six months and the vehicle was taken to the dealer.the dealer advised him that the front passenger seat sensor was failing and would need to be replaced. He then called the manufacturer and referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 08v384000(air bags:frontal) and was advised that his vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 102,000.updated 05/24/11*ljupdated 05/25/11
My 2006 bmw 525i indicates a passive restraint system fault.the dealer reports the diagnosis code as oc3 mat faulted.the estimate for repair is $1,095.15.i declined the repair.when i asked for a written estimate they also sent me an estimate for another customer's 2005 bmw 525i/530 that had the same fault, so i thought it was worth reporting to see if it is a widespread issue with the passive restraint system faults.
I contacted bmw regarding a recall (id # 08v384000) (action # ea08001). They told me that my 2006 bmw 525xi was not included in the recall. Yet, my car exhibits the exact problems outlined in the recall. Namely, the front passenger air bags, with the exception of the head protection system, will be deactivated and the air bag warning lamp, as well as the passenger air bag "on-off" lamp will be illuminated. How is it that other 2006 5 series vehicles were included and my car was not?
I own a 2006 bmw 530xit (vin# [xxx] ) with a failed passenger airbag sensor mat. Bmw says that my vin# is not part of the recall and so i must pay out of pocket for the replacement.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Air bag / passive restraint system warning light is illuminated on my 2006 bmw 525ixwith the exact same symptoms reported on the recall for 5 series 2006 models. However, bmw is stating that my vin is not one of the impacted models. I believe this problem is part of the know issues and my vehicle should be included in the recall. A consumer should not have to pay $1,500 to have a safety feature working. I am hoping that you can include my vin in the recall since the symptoms are exactly as reported in he recall statement.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 525i. The contact stated while driving the passenger front air bag light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was contacted but would not assist with the repair because the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 08v384000, air bags frontal. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current miles were 157,000.
I am filing this complaint because of the research i have done on line. I have found that bmw has a recall on 2006 5 series for a defective airbag sensor for the passengerseat, but they insist that the recall is not for all 5 series, but it is vin sensitive. Meanwhile i have the identical problem on my 2006 530xi.i also found out that they have a class action law suit filed against them for the same problem.
I was driving a new bmw m5 in chicago on lower lake shore drive (the bridge over the chicago river.) at approximatly 30-35 miles/hour the car was not controllable and this resulted in to a major crash with significant injury, several devices were not functioningproperly including the deployment of the air-bags. I have been driving for over thirty years and during this time i did not experience even a minor accident nor did i ever receive a ticket for a traffic violation.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 525i. The contact stated the passenger seat mat that controls the air bags experienced an electrical failure. The failure caused the air bag light to constantly illuminate. The problem occurred previously and the dealer replaced the front passenger seat sensor mat under the manufacturers warranty. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated his vin was not included in therecall; therefore, he had to pay $1,800 for the repairs regarding nhtsa recall campaign id number: 08v384000; air bags: frontal. The manufacturer advised the contact to call the nhtsa hotline and offered no other assistance. The failure mileage was 130,000.
The front passenger side seat has a sensor that disables the air bag if an adult is not sitting in the seat (based on weight) since it has been determined that airbags are dangerous for children. The sensor in my car is malfunctioning and always keeps the air bag disabled, even if an adult is in the seat.dealer has ordered a replacement part.i'm driving around without air bag protection for the passenger side seat.
Car started beeping uncontrollably than service light reported a malfunction in the air pages and seat belt restraints on the passenger side seats. Dealer diagnosed problem as defected sensors. Had to wait for part then return for another service trip and wait for complimentary car. Its amazing when your in a car service is an emergency they never have loaner available. I depend on my car, so it is very difficult to wait for service. Again with no explanation they also had to update computer now many new function that were not working are now functioning like the blue tooth. Side lights that i didn't even know where there.
I own a 2006 bmw 525i.the front passenger side seat has a sensor that disables the air bag if an adult is not sitting in the seat (based on weight) since it has been determined that airbags are dangerous for children.the sensor in my car is malfunctioning and always keeps the air bag disabled, even if an adult is in the seat.bmw acknowledges that this is a problem, but doesn't seem to have a solution.the dealer has ordered a replacement part, but has no delivery date for the part.in addition, it isn't even certain that the replacement part will solve the problem.so, i'm driving around without air bag protection for the passenger side seat.

Computer locked key, all lights inside car and outside flickered out of control, then 2 weeks later brake did not engage while trying to stop and the vehicle crashed into a pole.
On feb. 21, 2011 the electrical system showed a massive malfunction warning on my 2006 bmw 530xi.the car computer instructed me to discontinue driving immediately and bring my car to the closest dealer.i brought the car to the dealer.it was determined the sunroof cassette was faulty and water from recent rains leaked through the sunroof (in closed position) ran down drain lines into my battery compartment.water caused major damage of electrical system, modules, battery etc.bmw told me the repairs, including a needed sunroof cassette would total $23000.00.bmw admitted the sunroof cassette was faulty, but said i was out of warranty and it would be my responsibility to repair.i did research and found 3 internal service bulletins from bmw, si b 61 13 06, si b 54 02 08 and si b54 04 09 which addressed this issue while my car was under warranty- these service bulletins were not performed on my car.i also have seen many, many of this same issue on bmw message boards.this could have been a very dangerous situation, and i feel bmw should be responsible for this repair.please help.
Air conditioning stop work causing motor to heat
Head lights angle lights wires getting very dry from the heat of the light and the insulation coming off the optical wires, lights go out, possible shorting and become very unsafe.
One day while driving, my car had an alert come on the i drive saying the passenger restraint system was malfunctioning. It stayed on a few months and then went away for a few months. Now the problem is occurring again.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw m5.while driving between 35-40 mph the vehicle caught on fire.the vehicle had a history of electrical problems since the day of purchase.during the fire, the vehicle lost the ability to brake. He had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle.the fire department extinguished the flames.the vehicle was completely destroyed. He suffered minor burns on his hands.the failure mileage was 40,000.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 5 series.after starting the vehicle one morning, all of the instrument panel indicators illuminated.the dealer stated that the vehicle needed a new szl module, which controlled most of the computer functions in the vehicle.the dealer did not have the part available, but assured the contact that the vehicle was safe to drive.three weeks after the incident, while driving 15 mph, the steering and brakes failed.the failure lasted less than a minute, but during this time he was unable to stop or steer the vehicle.he called the dealer and took the vehicle in for service.they kept the vehicle for over a month and replaced the szl module and clock spring, in addition to an electrical repair.within a month, the failure recurred.the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and returned the vehicle to the contact.the failure continued and the brakes began to squeal.the dealer replaced all of the brake pads and sensors.even with all the repairs, the failure persists.the dealer is still unable to reproduce the failure and provide a remedy.currently, the vehicle is experiencing unexpected acceleration.he believes that the issue is becoming progressively worse.through research, he has found numerous complaints for the same failure.the failure mileage was 7,000 and current mileage was 31,000.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 5 series. The contact stated that the battery failed twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the battery under warranty. The failure recurred within one month. The contact replaced the battery and did not notify the dealer or the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current 40,936.
Navigation display reboots constantly. Works periodically. This display gives me access to all of the cars features including warnings and malfunctions with the vehicle. If the display works when the car is on it may not work if you turn off the card and turn it back on.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 525xi.while driving 60 mph, the lights on the dashboard illuminated and the vehicle decelerated to 10 mph.the vehicle was unable to drive over 10 mph.the dealer stated that there was water on the passenger floor of the vehicle, which damaged all of the wiring and sensors.the dealer was unable to determine where the water originated, but suggested that it may have entered through an open window while it was raining.the current and failure mileages were 13,859.
Since 2011, i have needed to have my, 2006 bmw 530xi, vehicle serviced.serviced for trunk leakage, battery cable replacement, sunroof/moonroof non-drainage issues and passenger airbag sensor issues. I have paid perhaps three - to five thousand dollars for alleged repairs. None of those repairs were permanent and the issues continued on/off until 5/10/14. On that day/date i drove the car several hours shopping and preparing for mother's day. When i stopped the engine in my driveway the car shut off but i could not remove the key fob from the ignition. There was no power throughout the vehicle, e.g. No dash lighting, no internal lighting, no alarm light flashing and no ability to lock doors or open the trunk. Neither bmw-n.a. Nor dealership accept any responsibility for the water leakage or other repair issues, even though some manufacturer recalls were announced to the public for these issues, those were said to me to be only for specified vin numbered vehicles and not mine. I wouldlike to participate in a class action against bmw for these issues and i have saved all my repair receipts to validate my vehicle problems.
While driving in heavy rain, the vehicle's electronic control system issued a frenzy of alerts, and interrupted function of several subsystems including the windshield wipers. The system issued a message "continued driving not possible" and then further alerts. The bmw center examined the car and stated that water had entered the car through the sunroof drainage system andflooded the compartment housing the control systems, causing the sudden malfunction. Despite the fact that there is no maintenance protocol established by bmw for the drainage system, i had the sunroof drains checked on october 2009 and was assured by the bmw center that it was working to specification at that time. Nevertheless, bmw's center attributed the failure to the drainage system being partially blocked. (n.b. The system had not been checked for the first three years of use,so why would it fail 1 year and 1 month after inspection?)the drain system is concealed within the roof and is not accessible to car owner. The combination of the defective drainage system and the placement of the electronic control systems at the point of water collection presents a safety hazard when driving in inclement weather. Searching on the internet turns up similar complaints on other bmw models equipped with panoramic sunroofs such as the x3, x5, and 535xi and 325.
A message on the vehicle display screen indicated that the right-side low beam headlight was malfunctioning.i removed the headlight assembly to replace the bulb and found the wiring insulation is crumbling to the touch, resulting in a short circuit.the headlight bulb is not actually burned out.there are many complaints about this on the bmw forums but bmw and the headlight manufacturer, hella, refuses to acknowledge the problem or do anything about it.
Steering wheel malfunction locks preventing the vehicle to start steering wheel locks while driving
The sunroof drain clogged in my 2006 bmw 530xi station wagon causing water to pool in the car and short out the electrical system while i was driving, which resulted in the loss of power to the dashboard including the speedometer. I had the car towed to the dealership and the tow truck driver told me that this was the second 2006 bmw 530xi station wagon he had towed that day for the very same problem, the dealership tells me that it's a common problem for the sunroof drains to get clogged by pollen and pine needles, which sounds like a design flaw to me. My husband inspected the trunk where the water was pooling, while we waited for the tow truck, there were relaywires where the water was pooling and heat and steam coming from the area so my husband disconnected the wires, i'm fairly sure that if we had left it much longer it could have caused a fire.
The panoramic sunroof on e60 bmw wagons has a faulty design of the drains which re-directs water into the rear of the car (spare tire area) causing multiple electrical components to fail while driving: lights, windshield wipers, door locks, speedometer, etc. In my case, the failure occurred twice in a period of 18 months. The dealer and bmw north america repaired the car at owners' expense although an extended warranty was in force. There has been a technical service bulletin issued by bmw but the dealer does not acknowledge the flaw and refers to the failure being caused by 'environmental influences'.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 525i.while driving between 25-30 and 60-65 mph, the vehicle stalls.the entire i-drive (computer system) freezes and the vehicle has to be pulled over and restarted.currently, the stalling occurs weekly, whereas initially, it occurred every few months.the dealer keeps the vehicle for at least three days each time the failure occurs.the vehicle has been to the dealer five times and they have installed new software.however, after a month, the failure recurs.the purchase date was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 51,574.

The dsc (dynamic stability control) and awd (all wheel drive) module on my car (2006 bmw 530xi) malfunctioned.the dealer (budds' bmw in oakville) said that the car was "not road-worthy" and that the part was on back-order, and that there were other cars brought in with similar problems and that bmw had issued a bulletin.i phoned bmw canada but they refused to provide me a copy of the bulletin.
The 2006 bmw 5 series used aluminum head and valve cover bolts which were over-torqued during assembly and break after approximately 80k.bmw admits this problem exists but refuses to issue a recall.bmw's repair cost is ~$6000. These bolts are non serviceable and should never be removed, when broken they cause massive oil leaks and possibly fire.i contacted bmw, they requested to review the car. Bmw agreed that the bolts were broken then refused to fix the problem claiming the car has too many miles.bmw knew the mileage when they requested to review the problem ... Why waste my time if they knew they were going to do nothing?my vehicle now losses approximately 1-2 quarts of oil per 100 miles.i am chagrined that bmw will not admit their manufacturing defect.i have maintained this car with care and other than the oil leak from the broken bolts the car is in perfect condition - but is no longer drivable.
Air conditioning stop work causing motor to heat

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 5 series. The contact stated that the vehicle leaked oil and the brakes failed while driving at low speeds. The brakes worked normally when applied at high speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that a new power brake booster and vacuum pump needed to be installed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 104,932. *dt
I had a recent problem with our 525i. I was driving it and it lost power/died. When the vehicle died, i lost powersteering and power brakes. The car would not restart and no error lights or messages were displayed on the idrive. I had the car towed home. After the initial check of the vehicle, it showed the crank sensor fault. I noticed a bunch of metal throw off in the oil filter and the vehicle did not have compression in cylinder 2 and 6. I was thinking catastrophic engine failure.since i am very familiar with american/japanese vehicles, i decided to look into the problem myself after getting no response from bmwna. The car is out of warranty with 85k miles.the metal throw off was due to the timing chain jumping off of the exhaust cam gear and grinding against the back of it. The cause of the problem was the two aluminum screws under the cam shaft gears. Both heads were broken off and one made its way up the chain getting caught in the chain and gear. These screws are aluminum. I don't know if this is a common problem but for the bolts to break it would be due over torqued/tighten bolts or extreme pressure from expanding/contracting of the magnesium vs aluminum. The other broken bolt head is still some where in the bottom of the oil pan. The exhaust cam gear was chewed up, but still serviceable. I re-timed the car and checked the compression. I got lucky and compression is good so no bent valves. I disassemble everything and now i patiently waiting for several parts. However, i'm still dealing with the broken head that is some where in the oil pan. This is a serious manufactures defect and i have retained all of the parts and including the oil.
Since purchasing the vehicle (10/12/2005) the vehicle alerts us that the oil level is low - do not continue to operate vehicle.the car was serviced each time the problem occurred by south bay bmw.reprogramming, sensors and oil consumption tests have been done; however, whatever repairs are done, the problem recurs.
Due to a certain defect in the airconditioning air duct, the humidity builds up to a high level causing eventual mold formation in the air duct. As a result of that a bad smell will progressively increase untill it can be easily noticable especially during the first minute of starting the air conditionner. Molds are known to be strong allergens and can result in worsening nasal allergy symptoms, cough, nasal congestion, and sneezing. I belleive it is a health hazard to people with mold allergies like my son who had noticable wosening of his nasal congestion and eventually his obstructive sleep apnea symptoms as a result of that. Up on cantacting the local dealer in teh area and later the bmw customer service department, they acknowledged the problem since i was not the only one with the same complaint, but they only offered to clean the ductsonce a year, which is a short term remedy and does not prevent the recurrence of the problem.i beleive it is a haelth risk and customers need to be informed upfront about this problem before they make a selection to buy that vehicle.
Head lights angle lights wires getting very dry from the heat of the light and the insulation coming off the optical wires, lights go out, possible shorting and become very unsafe.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 535xi. The contact stated that the brake light assembly shorted out. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who decided to replace all three rear brake lights, rear driver side reverse light and both turn signals in the rear. In addition, the contact stated that the doors on the vehicle appear to close and latched and inadvertantly open. The contact was informed of recall nhtsa campaign id number: 12v504000 (latches/locks/linkages: doors: latch) but was informed it only affected the 2007 model. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 82,000.
Do you have any studies involving the bright head lights and accidents caused by these headlight?.
The taillights of bmws (made in about the last three years),some lexus (starting about two years ago) and some cadillacs (starting about a year ago) use leds that are modulated on and off.these can become a distraction at night when moving one's eyes quickly from side to side.it can give the illusion that there are more cars on the highway than there are.

On start-up from a near stop the transmission jerked hard back into first gear. Felt as if someone had hit me from the rear end. This has happened repeatedly and is very disturbing, causing unfamiliar reactions from the driver and passenger. Could cause an accident.
Bmw car can be a death trap!my 2006 530i smg gearbox with 34k miles lost power completely without warning on the road. Luckily, i was approaching a stop light and the car became undrivable and needed to be tolled away. I was 5 minutes from getting on a highway and if i was on highway, it would be a different story. The failure was due to a leak in the hydraulic component of the transmission. This is a sealed system with no user serviceable/inspection support and obviously the car has no monitor facility for this component since there was no warning. With the hydraulic failure, the transmission disengaged the gear back to neutral which results in complete power lost and i could not "re-engage" it back in gear. The transmission is under computer control (automatic).
I've had problems with the automatic transmission since purchasing in dec 2008. The vehicle jerks violently as it shifts after stops. A few months ago, the transmission wouldn't shift up until i put it in neutral and shifting it back to d. Currently, it jerks during up shifts thru all gears, most of the time. I have brought it in to the dealer multiple times over the years. They claim that they couldn't find anything wrong. I am very worried of the transmission failing suddently and causing a crash.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 5 series 530xi. The contact stated that while attempting to park, the vehicle would not shift into park. Once the contact was able to shift into park, the message display informed her that the engine would not shut off because the vehicle was not locked into park. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the contact was awaiting inspection of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 05v504000 (power train:automatic transmission). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 123,000.
Dt*: the contact stated the engine hesitated when accelerating from a stop.the hesitation of the engine lasted between 5 to 10 seconds.the vehicle was taken to the service dealer and manufacturer, who did not find any problem with the engine.the vehicle was not involved in any accidents.when pulling out into traffic, the vehicle hesitated. The consuemer was told the vehicle is underpowered for its weight. Updated 12/18/06.
The automatic transmission of my 2006 bmw 525i, with app 65,000 miles, failed and the dealer tell me that i have to pay for a replacement. I feel that a transmission should last more than 65,000 mile and thus should be replaced at bmw's expense. My research indicates that these are an anusually high rate of transmission failures in these cars, and therecall should be mandated.
2006 bmw 530i - when stopping, car lurches forward forcefully.almost hit car in front of me - felt like someone hit me.

I noticed just short of 49,000 miles on my 2006 bmw 530i the brakes were very hard to push at slower speeds and when approaching traffic stops.through tests of my own and of bmw service, the cause is brake booster failure.i was told by the dealer that they have seen a lot of these cars with this problem and the heat in this area was partially to blame.i've owned a lot of cars in this area and i've never heard of this happening.the brake booster needs replaced, but as of this date has not been done yet.
Brake vacuum pump has leaked lubricating oil into brake booster, causing booster to fail, causing power assist braking to be compromised, making braking difficult to impossible.

Computer locked key, all lights inside car and outside flickered out of control, then 2 weeks later brake did not engage while trying to stop and the vehicle crashed into a pole.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 530xi. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the front driver side tire blew. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the failure was located at the front driver side coil spring, which fractured and punctured the tire. The manufacturer was madeaware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure and the current mileage was 77,000.
The front suspension makes loud noises when the car goes over bumps. I also find that i have to perform wheel balancing every 2-3 months, which is a lot more than other vehicles i have owned. I have taken the car in to the dealer, who stated that there is nothing wrong with the suspension, except for dirty bushings. I find this hard to believe.
The contact owns a 2006 bmw 530xi.when the vehicle drove 20 mph overa bump in the road he heard a loud noise under the front of the vehicle. The noise was louder whenever the weather was frigid. He took the vehicle to the dealer twice for the failure. The diagnosis confirmed that the failure was caused by the front control lower arm bushing. The estimated cost for repair was $312.00.the manufacturer was notified. The manufacturer stated that his vin was not included in recall number 06v187000 suspension, frontcontrol arms;therefore; they would not assist with the repair. The vehicle will be repaired. The failure mileage was 56,000. The current mileage was 72,000.
