After a personal investigation into this issue, bmw seems to still deny that my model has the same issues described in the recall. "restraint system malfunction!" appears on the car every 20 seconds frighting drivers and passengers the airbags and seatbelts might not work. This is an american car curently in canada.

I received a recall notice from bmw (recall campaign no. 16v-071) a year ago. The recall notice informs me that the airbag can rupture in an accident and send metal fragments to the driver (myself) and other passengers. This is a concerning safety issue that still has not been addresses and resolved by bmw. The recall notice advises me that there are no parts available to resolve this recall and that bmw will advise me when there are. Since it has been a year since this notice, this is now reaching an unreasonable amount of time that a consumer should have to wait for resolution on a safety issue such as this. I would like bmw to provide me with a loaner bmw vehicle or like modeluntil they correct and resolve this issue.[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was driving on the interstate when my car started to lose acceleration.i could not accelerate up an incline.then i heard a rattling.the next exit was a rest stop and as i was exiting my vehicle failed and shut down.i had no power at all.i coasted to a parking stall and turned the vehicle off after parking it safely.when i opened the hood the vehicle was not hot or smoking so i tried to start it.the car started but with a very loud knocking and rattling so i shut it off again and phoned the dealership.i towed the vehicle to the dealership over 30 days ago and have not been contacted by them not 1x.i have called weekly to no avail.
Takata recalli was notified of the airbag recall on my car and called the dealership to get a rental car.i was first denied this request until i called bmw customer service and they contacted the dealership to approve the rental.it has been months and the dealership called and said they had my replacement airbag so upon dropping the car off at the dealership i asked if this was the newly designed airbag and was told that it was the same defective design but was safe because they are essentially "resetting the clock."so instead of correcting the defect, i simply got a newer defective 'safety device' put in my vehicle that would have to replaced again.i called bmw customer service again to inquire about a vehicle buy back which they are required to do by law if they cannot correct a recall.i was told that based on the age of my vehicle they would not buy it back.i don't see how this is legal and would like this investigated.if a manufacturer is required by law to repair my car and cannot do so, they should be forced to refund my purchase price or swap it out for a comparable vehicle.the fact that bmw is not doing so is illegal and they should be held accountable.
The seat mat sensor is also defective in the 2009 model year.bmw has included only 2007 and 2008.we cannot put a child or elderly in the front seat as the airbag will go off.
The contact owns a 2009 bmw 335i. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the sensor illuminated on the instrument panel indicating that the front passenger side seat belt malfunctioned and needed to be serviced. Also, the contact indicated stated that the seatbelt failed to retract. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that both front seat mat sensors and seat belts were defective, and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 22,500.

I received a recall notice from bmw about 10 days ago regarding the air bag recall. However, bmw is not providing a firm solution or date to fix the problem due to lack of parts. I emailed bmw to provide a timeline for the repair and to seek advice if the vehicle should be parked until the air bags are fixed. To date i have not received any responses from bmw. It appears that and bmw is not taken the matter seriously and i hope that it's not the case with nhtsa. The recent event of another death in tx as a result of the air bag should cause this agency to be more vigilant in requiring bmw to immediately fix the problem or provide a solution in the meantime. I would like nhtsa to require bmw to remove the air bags immediately until replacements are available, or provide a free loaner while i store my car until the air bags are fixed. As far as i am aware, american honda is on top of the air bag issue while bmw is nonchalantly sitting around waiting for the parts to become available. The magnitude of this air bag issue coupled with bmw's blatant disregard for the safety of their cars' owner should be a concern to and a top priority for this agency.
When a passenger is belted - with car running/driving - an alarm comes on - basically not recognizing when belted. Also the inactive airbag light is not on.when no passenger, the car used to light up the 'airbag not active' - it no longer shows that (light is always off) whether passenger there or not.
My vehicle suddenly displayed a passenger restraint system malfunction message following someone sitting in the seat. Everything appears to be in full working order except whatever is causing the malfunction.

Takata recall.i received a recall notice stating that in the event of a crash a defect in the airbag couldcause rupturing of the inflator resulting in serious injury or death. It is now more than 9 months since receipt of this notice. I have contacted bmw 3 times since receipt of the notice and they state there is still no indication of when they might be able to replace the defective airbag. I'm hoping youcan assist with forcing bmw to get this safety replacement completed.

Starting with electrical the dash screen has been turning on and off on its own sins i bought the car. Dealer cant replicate problem because it only happens so often. Water pump and gas pump have gave me problems even after they fix it. After recall for heater issues, my car absorbs fumes from the engine. Adviser and supervisor from bmw dealer say that is normalcause that's where the car gets the heat from. Center divider from inside of the car gets extremely hot when i have heater on, to where i can feel the heat go through my jeans. Advisers and supervisor also state that is normal, because exhaust pipes run through there. None of this makes any sense to me. I've called corporate plenty of times through out the years and they tend to help at times. But this time i feel like i have a lemon problem. What can i do?

I bought a 2009 bmw 335i off of a friend of mine knowing that the car did indeed have few issues back in december of 2019. When i had received the car the back left strut was out. I replaced all of them including the brakes as well as preformed a simple service. I took the car in for a diagnosis for the car not wanting to start properly to bmw for a proper check up. I legit get two starts before having to let it sit for a while before i can start it again. This has been an ongoing issue after what i thought could possibly be a starter issue. But it wasnt, the car doesnt crank; it clicks almost as if it wants to turn over and run as a self sustaining mechanism. Instead i must let it sit for a couple hours until i can yet again start it back up and its fine. This car has made me sit and wait countless times at friends houses and public places.bmw told me that it is the positive battery terminal and cable from the start port that needs to be replaced due to corrosion. They sent me a full inspection summary as a video for me to see and yes that red cable doesnt look to good behind the wheel well leading to the battery. Of coursei did my research and found many other bmw's alike have the same exact issues. I dont want to have to pay out of pocket $3000 for a piece of hardware that is bond to decay. Thats a huge obligation for myself and a large safety issue for many others. This is my daily and i dont want to risk anything upon myself or anyone else that may own this same model and or have the same issue again. This needs to be fixed and addressed immediately. The date for when it occurred is the date bmw sent an inspection video back for myself to view.
When starting car engine, its take a long time to crank up and get the engine going. It also sound really weak unlike when i first bought it. Engine also show warning engine malfunction light up from time to time.
My vehicles fuel consumption has worsened. Headlights flickers. Vehicle goes into limp mode often. Vehicle feels like it's choking or running on less cylinders. I have to constantly change my clock. Misfiring still occurring even after tune up. Loss of power. Waste gate rattle.
It is a very dangerous problem with this vehicle that bmwna is well aware of, but insists that it is "normal behavior" for my car/transmission. I brought the car into the dealer, and they were able to reproduce it, but they were told by bmw that this was "normal behavior."the problem occurs when you slow down- like for a turn, but do not come to a complete stop. The dct transmission seems to have trouble figuring out what gear to select because when you step on the gas to accelerate, there is a very significant delay in the onset of power- up to 2-3 seconds. By this time, the driver is usually really digging into the throttle. The transmission finally picks a gear, which results in the car suddenly lurching forward, sometimes invoking the anti-skip control. The danger in this behavior occurs when making a turn into on-coming traffic after slowing down to around 10-15 mph. After the turn, the car is positioned in the traffic lane, but you have no power to accelerate into the flow of traffic. The oncoming cars are now closing in on your car at a fast rate, and you're basically stuck. This situation is most pronounced in the "auto" mode of the dct transmission, but also occurs to a lesser degree while in the manual mode when you select second gear in preparation for the turn. It is also very repeatable in both modes.these problems started occurring after a previous recall on this transmission where the engine would stall under hard braking or not shift under hard braking. The recall fixed that problem, but introduced this problem, which occurs almost every day whereas the previous problem only occurred during a specific situation.thank you for looking into this dangerous matter.

The contact owns a 2009 bmw 335i coupe. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle began to lose power as the engine malfunction reduce power warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer was notified and advised the contact that she needed to turn the vehicle off for 15 minutes to correct the failure. The contact turned the vehicle off and allowed it to sit before restarting. The vehicle was restarted and functioned normally for several weeks before the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 58,000.
10/8/2010 - while traveling on alligator alley in southern florida, 2009 bmw 335i experienced a severe loss of power with engine lamp turning on. Loss of power worsened for the next seventy five miles until the car could not go over forty miles per hour and had insufficient torque to go up any inclined highway off ramps. Took car back to bmw dealership and was informed loss of power was due to failure of high pressure fuel pump, and was informed that the pump would be replaced and engine software updated. Car had approximately 10,000 miles at the time of incident.
Vehicle lost power, engine lite came on. Took for repair, was told since it wasn't doing it @ time i brought it in bmw wouldn't repair. A couple months later> same thing happened but it died this time & left me stranded. My new car now has 7,000 miles and i don't trust it! calling them to come get it today.
I buy my 2009 bmw 335i with 39,700 miles, full bmw service was done the same day, my next service was at 49,000 miles however at around 48,000 miles.when driving to work on the highway going 50mph i had to move over to the passing lane and when i attempted to accelerate about at 65mph the car started to shake very bad and the engine light came on and i loss power had to slow down to 20-25mph could have cause an accident as i was in the faster lane and car slow down rapidly!! thank god i was able to move all the way over to the slower lane with little issue.after i pulled over i turned the car off and open the hood as my oil temp was just about at 250*, under hood temps was hot but not anything crazy, everything looks good so i started the car and it idle like normal and the engine light was now gone, i close the hood and was able to drive the car like normal, so i took the car to the local bmw dealer in my work area and they told me the issue i am having is cause by the hpfp high pressure fuel pump, so they reply it and everything seems normal for another 2,000 miles then i had the same issue again!this time i was heading home and it happened when i was trying to accelerate with moving traffic omg that was bad all most cause a major accident with all the cars, trucks behind me had to slow down rapidly .. Was going 30mph and tried to speed up to 60.. At around 45mph car lost power and was shaking worst than the first time this happened, engine light came on, again thank god i was able to pull over, i turn the car off and waited for 5-6min than turn it back on, this time the engine light remain on, my oil temp was around 190*, the car still idle and drive as normal even with the engine light on, took it to my local bmw dealer in my home area and they found this time is two bad injectors one at cylinder 1 and the other at cylinder 5 .cost of repair $1.1k.
My bmw turned off on the highway. Engine light came on and car stopped.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)i am the owner of a 2009 bmw 335i purchased august 2009. On april 6, 2010, i started the engine in the morning and was greeted with long cranks and the check engine light turned on with an error message of engine failure, reduced power. The car has been fine before this morning at 7,200 miles approx. I contacted the dealer and was told to bring it in. The car was still drivable. On the way to the dealership, the car stalled and completely lose power on the highway and on the inside street causing me to have to quickly put the gear in p and restart the car. I informed the dealer about the stall and engine failure but was met with no regards. The dealer informed me that it is a high performance fuel pump failure. Please investigate the issue as i do not want to be driving on the highway and have the engine completely stall and shut down again.[xxx]
2009 bmw 335i has had engine run at half power numerous times. Only once was it able to be taken to the dealership in time for them to retrieve any diagnostic information and act on it at that point in time, however it has suffered similar behavior since this point and supposedly they are unable to retrieve data, even within a week or two of the event occurring and state that nothing is wrong with it.the first time this happened i was making a left turn and was relying on the acceleration of the vehicle to make a turn at a reasonable speed prior to traffic arriving and the car simply gave out and reduced itself to half power (per the error on the screen). Quite nearly got me in an accident.the filing date on this is the most recent, to my knowledge, of the incident occurring. I wasn't aware of this site until now so it's possible the date is off by as much as 4-6 weeks.
The brake lights, turn signal lights do not function properly.several led are not functional.bmw is aware of the problem, but refuses to fix this safety issue.see sib 63-06-10.this is a very common problem on this series of cars.search bimmer forums and you will see many people trying to figure out how to repair these lights because of the immense costs in replacing them.this needs to be fixed at the manufacturer level.bmw says that it is because of a poor connection within the light.they replace both of them if the vehicle is under warranty, but refuse to do anything for anyone out of warranty.i would like to request an investigation into this refusal of bmw to do anything about this obvious and dangerous safety issue.they did a recall on the 5 series car for the same problem.don't you think they would also recall the 3 series.i guess they are trying to get out of fixing their manufacturing problems.there should be a warranty of merchanability regarding these lights.if they are not fit for their intended purpose, then the mfg should correct it.they say the new lights have a anti vibration gasket that helps.so, they are aware of how to fix it.they just need to do it.
Both my rear tail lights are malfunctioning and bmw is well aware that the contacts or worn out and need replacing. There is even a service bulletin about it yet my service advisor claimed i had to replace both taillight assemblies at $200 apiece. My bumper-to-bumper warranty through bmw does not cover taillightsthis is a big safety issue as my tail light intermittently work

The wires on the inside of my headlights are cracked, and have a lot of bare copper showing. I noticed this when i went to change bulbs out. This is sealed from outside elements. Not sure if this is what caused the bulbs to go out. It did however create a short that needed to be cleared after i taped up the wires the best i could.

The contact owns a 2009 bmw 335d (n/a). The contact stated that in cold weather, the area that filtered the diesel fuel became frozen and caused the sensors to freeze as well. The failure caused the check engine light to illuminate. The vehicle had not been diagnosed when the complaint was filed; however, the contact stated that the failure was caused by a design flaw. The failure mileage was approximately 6,800.
The car's high pressure fuel pump failed on freeway on-ramp acceleration leading to a near rear-end collision by a following car.this failure was preceded by long-crank starting and engine racing on starting.the hpfp was replaced at 6,000 miles (10/09).at 12,000 miles the software was reprogrammed. (6/10)the dealer says it is replacing the hpfp again.this appears to be an ongoing problem with the bmw 335i engine starting with the 2007 models as reported on this website.according to a survey of 300+ owners nearly 50% have experienced this problem.
2009 bmw 335i. Consumer writes in regards to defective index 9 fuel injectors. *ldthe consumer stated the index 9 fuel injectors were discontinued. All 6 fuel injectors had to be replaced with an index 12. The consumer requested to be reimbursed the repair costs.
I own a 2009 bmw 335i which has the type n54 engine. I have owned this car since may 2009. I have had 2 high pressure fuel pumps replaced. The last malfunction just occurred as i was at highway speed 65mph + and the engine went into the limp home mode. Because of this mode the car had a drastic reduction of power, without any warning. I was lucky i was able to get to the right lane and limp to dealership with a top speed of 50mph. This was a dangerous situation to me and other drivers on highway. The n54 engine is a major issue for bmw, their own service advisors state that almost 60% of these engines have had fuel pump malfunctions, resulting in replacement.
It's an ongoing issue which bmw has failed to fix.i believe i have issues with my high pressure fuel pump.i have had the low pressure sensor replaced, and a software upgrade.last night, the car had a rough idle, and the warning engine malfunction, reduced power was displayed.i drove home slowly.the car roughed idled.in addition, i called bmw assist to file the complaint.there was a voluntary recall, but i have not received any type of notification for my vehicle.
Fuel pump failed on bmw 335i. On the freeway, car information panel indicated "engine malfunction -- reduced power" and the car went into a limp mode, with radically low power and rough running. Because of the prevailing speed of rush hour traffic, my inability to maintain normal freeway speed did not seriously endanger me or other motorists. I am reporting this failure because i have learned that the same failure is epidemic with all applications of the engine in my car. Injuries are inevitable if the defective fuel pump is not redesigned.
Car suddenly lost power while accelerating and attempting to merge into traffic on interstate 5 n in irvine.had to exit interstate and drive surface streets.car continued to operate at greatly reduced power.dealer replaced high pressure fuel pump under warranty.
The fuel pump on my 2009 bmw 335i has failed and i believe it's starting to fail again but everytime i take it in they say it's fine and they cant do anything until it actually fails. Problem with that is if it fails on the highway doing 70mph then i'm going to be in a world of hurt. The pump has already failed once.
I own a 2009 bmw 335. It was purchased in early 2009. Prior to the failure of the part, there was no sign of trouble.while i was driving on the freeway in southern california, my car started to lose power. Concurrent with that power loss, the "service engine soon" light appeared on my instrument cluster. Additionally, an icon (it looked like a transmission) lit up as well. When the power loss first occurred, i was in the fast lane on the freeway. I had to work extremely quick to get to the other side of the freeway, for fear that someone would hit me from behind (as my car slowed down). I eventually made it to the other side of the freeway without incident. I pulled off to the side of the road and turned the car off. I eventually called a tow truck and had my car towed to the nearest bmw dealership.turns out that my high-pressure fuel pump failed. I did not have any warning prior to the failure. The dealership replaced the high-pressure fuel pump. Since then, i have put 5500 miles on the car. My fuel pump is still working properly.
2009 bmw 335i with 11000 miles started to sputter while driving on the freeway and the yellow service engine and low power lights came on. Vehicle was drivable but with low power. Managed to limp into town and had car towed to bmw dealership. Problem diagnosed as high pressure fuel pump failure. Dealer replaced high pressure fuel pump and performed software update under warranty.
2009 bmw 335ihigh pressure fuel pump failed on may 30th. I was able to drive the car home with reduced power. I subsequently brought the car to mountain view bmw on june 10th. New fuel pump was installed with software update.
Failure of high pressure fuel pump with resulting loss of power and drivable.failure has occurred once so far at 10 months of ownership and approximately 9000 miles.initial repair was a software update.this repair was of no benefit and shortly thereafter the car was returned to the dealer and the hpfp was replaced with a remanufactured hpfp.
I was driving and the high pressure fuel pump on my 2009 bmw 335i went out and i received a warning sign indicating reduced power.the car died in the middle of the road.potentially unsafe with cars coming at me as my vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the road.
I was driving uphill last night and an engine light came on and the navigation screen said reduced power.i had to shift down into third gear and put my foot to the floor and the car hardly kept going up the hill.i turned it off and then on again and all seemed fine.on the way home the same lights came on but then the service engine soon light came on and began flashing and the car began shaking and idling very rough.the car was very hard to drive and had almost no power whatsoever.problem occurred again this morning and the car was taken to the dealership on a flat bed.this would be extremely dangerous if it happened at highway speeds or on an open stretch of highway with little access to services and/or repair facilities.the dealership says it is the high pressure fuel pump.
The car is a 2009 bmw 335i . About 23 weeks ago, the car lost power. Fortunately, there was not a accident. When the car went into the dealer, i was told that it was a fuel pump problem and the changed the pump.
Driving on the highway at 65 mph resulted in sudden loss of power and need to pull off to the side of the road in a very dangerous setting. Fuel pump required replacement in a vehicle that was one year old. Approximately one year later the same problem occurred while driving. "engine malfunction light" and complete loss of power while driving. Again high pressure fuel pump had to be repaired (car mileage ~ 28,000 miles)
Fuel pump failure while driving on the highway at 65mph.complete loss of power and engine.
I went to the bmw dealership (to have the several recall performed on my car lastweek1. Recall id 2638582. Recall id 1903183. Recall id 1903194. Recall id 1903205. Recall id 174817 the service guy (https://www.stevenscreekbmw.com) told me that they cant honor the recall because my car has a rebuilt/salvage titlemy call vin number [xxx]car bmw 335i 2009base on my understanding recalls are a safety issue and by law have to be completed on the car no matter the branding on title.pleases let me know the way to get the recall process.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Vehicle had aprox, 3,400 miles and began to experience long cranks during start up.for about 1 month i experienced intermittent long cranks but the vehicle performed normally.with 4,800 miles on the vehicle i was driving on a highway attempting to pass a vehicle in right lane and the vehicle sputtered and a reduced power indicator showed on dash.i was able to limp the vehicle to dealership, stalled once during trip to dealer.dealership diagnosed bad high pressure fuel pump and replaced same day.
When starting car engine, its take a long time to crank up and get the engine going. It also sound really weak unlike when i first bought it. Engine also show warning engine malfunction light up from time to time.
The contact owns a 2009 bmw 335i. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and had it towed to bmw of scottsdale in scottsdale, arizona. The vehicle was repaired in march of 2017 per an unknown fuel pump recall. The failure recurred on march 29, 2018 and the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not repaired again. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 91,725.
Fuel pump leaking gasoline leaving a strong odor in the car and footwell module is bad
I was driving home from the dry cleaners. As i was trying to merge into the freeway, the car check engine light came on with about a 70% reduction in power. I couldnt merge onto the freeway safely, and had to pull tot he shoulder. The car is currently at bmw dealer for repairs. It has been suggested that it is due to the fuel pump.
I am very happy to see your organization taking an interest in this issue. This is a dangerous problem with this vehicle that bmwna is well aware of, but insists that it is "normal behavior" for my car/transmission. I brought the car into the dealer, and they were able to reproduce it, but they were told by bmw that this was "normal behavior." the problem occurs when you slow down- like for a turn, but do not come to a complete stop. It is also very repeatable in both modes. These problems started occurring after a previous recall on this transmission where the engine would stall under hard braking or not shift under hard braking. The recall fixed that problem, but introduced this problem, which occurs almost every day whereas the previous problem only occurred during a specific situation. Thank you for looking into matter.

Randomly while driving and sometimes when stationary my car's electrical system started going haywire including my gauges and the passenger airbag as well some other safety features with tthe seatbelt were disabled with & without a passenger in the car. I keep getting a warning screen that tread as follows:"restraint system malfunction. Fault in passenger-restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner or belt-force limiter. Continue to wear the safety belt. Have the system checked by the nearest bmw center."after looking online it is a common problem but for some reason my vin isn't included on the recall.
My vehicle suddenly displayed a passenger restraint system malfunction message following someone sitting in the seat. Everything appears to be in full working order except whatever is causing the malfunction.
When a passenger is belted - with car running/driving - an alarm comes on - basically not recognizing when belted. Also the inactive airbag light is not on.when no passenger, the car used to light up the 'airbag not active' - it no longer shows that (light is always off) whether passenger there or not.
After a personal investigation into this issue, bmw seems to still deny that my model has the same issues described in the recall. "restraint system malfunction!" appears on the car every 20 seconds frighting drivers and passengers the airbags and seatbelts might not work. This is an american car curently in canada.
Pass. Seat mat sensor malfunction it cracks and causes a saftey issue where if the car is to crash the airbag would not go off on the passenger side.
The seat mat sensor is also defective in the 2009 model year.bmw has included only 2007 and 2008.we cannot put a child or elderly in the front seat as the airbag will go off.

My 2009 bmw 335i has a significant lag-time between when the gas pedal is depressed and when the car starts to accelerate.this is most noticeable when the car is at a dead stop.when i press the gas pedal, it takes about one full second before it lunges forward suddenly.this is a consistent problem which i can replicate every time i press on the gas pedal from a dead stop.this is very scary and dangerous, especially when i am trying to make a left turn, or when i am trying to avoid an accident.i have no control over how quickly my car responds to the gas pedal.i have noticed this since i purchased my car in august 2009.my bmw dealership and another bmw dealership told me that this is normal.i highly doubt that this is normal.this is clearly abnormal to me.several bulletin boards on the internet also report the same problem.
Driving down the freeway at 60mph my sunroof exploded. No cars were in front of my vehicle ruling out a rock. It was coupled with a loud noise and glass falling into the car and down the back of the car.
I purchased 4 wheels for my vehicle where one of the four failed under normal and reasonable use. A detailed description is attached in the documents titled 20200703_mas_complaint.pdf.
