Takata recallthis is a follow-up to the complaint i submitted earlier today, # 11021353.i bought my bmw from the sharpest rides car dealership of englewood, colorado.the date of sale was april 10, 2015.but it was not until i read the flyers the nhtsa sent to my post office box in 2017 that i knew anything about any takata airbag recall.the nhtsa website clearly shows that there have been two manufacturer recalls on my bmw.the first recall was july 15, 2014, well before i bought my bmw from the sharpest rides on april 10, 2015. While negotitating the purchase of my bmw, i had numerous telephone conversations, and exchanged myriad emails, with sharpest rides personnel.no one at the sharpest rides ever warned me of a dangerous airbag.no one at the sharpest rides ever warned me of an unsafe, hazardous condition in my car.

On saturday 03/01/2014 at around 10:30pm i had just passed the tappan zee bridge going to connecticut so i was on the 287 west or north highway (not sure because at some point 287 changes from west to north). It was about 1-2 miles after when i hit a huge pothole that made air bag or side curtain fell off. The entire bag did not deploy, just the side curtain fell off and stayed hanging. Insurance company considered it a collision and totaled my car. I feel upset because the air bag did not open properly and yet my car was totaled because of it.

Takata recalli called 1 877 432 7841.after explaining that i lived hundreds of miles from the nearest bmw dealer, i was told by the phone rep that my case would be accelerated and that i would be hearing back by phone.i waited days, but no one ever called me.i then called 1-800-831-1117.i got bounced around and was finally connected with a bmw dealer in idaho falls, almost 500 miles from my home in rosebud, montana.the person who spoke to me was very young, had a poor attitude, and wanted to order me around.she ignored all my pleas.i am 65 years old and drive hundreds of miles per week for my usda job.i thus do not have the physical stamina or time to drive to idaho falls.nevertheless she told me i had to drive to idaho falls for a saturday appointment.she informed me that any expenses i incurred (gasoline, lodging, etc.) had to come out of my own pocket and that i would not be reimbursed.i begged her to have the airbags sent to a mechanic or body shop near me in montana.she refused.i ended the conversation and sent an sos email to the dot.the dot has never answered my email.
The contact owns a 2001 bwi 330i. While driving approximately 25 mph the front passenger side air bag spontaneously deployed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The passenger side air bag was replaced. The technicians were unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
In january 2006, the trouble light in our 2001 bmw 330i, signaled that the computer that activates the air bags had failed. The local dealer indicates that he has 3 other similar vehicles with the same problem, but to this date he has been unable to secure the proper replacement parts in the u.s and is on back order to the factory in germany. During the past 4 months we have been without air bags in this vehicle because of a shortage of the proper replacement parts.
Consumer states while driving the driver side door air bag deployed, resulting damage to rims and underneath (claim# 53-c792-940). *yd
My driver side curtain and door airbags deployed after hitting a pot hole. There is no damege to any sides of the vehicle. After they deployed, the car cut off, and i am still rolling. Hazzard lights did come on. And now, i am scared to drive the car.
The contact owns a 2001 bmw 330i.while driving approximately 20 mph, the driver's side air bag deployed without warning.the failure may have been triggered by a pothole in the road.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the driver was not injured.in addition, there was a sudden loss of engine power.the vehicle was pushed to the side of the road and the engine restarted and resumed normal operation.the vehicle has not been repaired.the nearest authorized dealer was located 70 miles away.the vehicle is not being driven due to the safety risk involved.the failure and current mileages were 115,000.
We were driving my 2001 bmw 330i the posted speed limit (70 mph) in missouri on hwy 57 northbound in the right-hand lane when suddenly, at mile marker 19, there was an explosion on the drivers side causing the driver to temporarily lose control of the vehicle due to the impact of the airbags hitting him on the side of the face, up against his right arm and elbow, and covering him with a light, white powder.he quickly regained control of the car and managed to pull off the road on to the right side shoulder, hitting several potholes, slicing into the both passenger side tires (slicing the sidewalls) , damaging the rims and damaging the alignment all in an attempt to keep the car on the road and avoid having the car careen down the embankment into the ravine and off into the woods.upon inspection by us and by trooper spain from the missouri state highway patrol it became clear that no collision or accident had occurred.meaning, none of us could locate any exterior damage on the vehicle possibly due to flying debris or hitting another car, nor could we find any road hazards like potholes in the center of the road.apparently both side airbags on the drivers side door spontaneously deployed (without cause) breaking the window, hitting the driver and destroying the drivers side door paneling and resulting in other damage as he tried to retain control of the car.with some direction from the state trooper, we took photos of the vehicle on all sides; the tire marks on the road; the glass on the road where the explosion occurred (in the center of the highway showing no potholes) and all the interior damage.the car was just serviced by perillo bmw in chicago in preparation for this roadtrip - where the oil and belts were changed.the airbag indicator was not on and did not come on during our trip.i have the accident report; photos; and car records dating back to 2001 including work from all previous owners proving no prior accidents or possible cause.
While driving consumer was to close to the median and damaged the tires, as a result both drivers side door airbag deployed prematurely (claim#43-r604-736). *yd
Consumer stated that while driving at 55mph and without warning the side air bag deployed for no reason causing a distraction to the consumer and they was forced to pull over. Dealer notified. Ts
The car hit a pothole and the airbag that runs alongside the roofline of the passenger's seat deployed.
I was driving home from school, about 30-35 mph when i hit a pot hole. The side airbags deployed. I was riding alone & nothing was in the seat. I took the car to the shop & that was when the man who looked at the car said that it was not supposed to do that unless someone was sitting in the seat. Also, my car one day just wouldn't unlock or it would start not locking using the remote. I used the key and sometimes it would work. It went back to normal after not touching it for a few days. Months after, it started doing it again. Id be locked out or locked in. It wouldn't work using the remote, key, nor manually from the inside. Now, the driver door wont open at all, thus i have to crawl across the seat to drive. The back blinker started dimming so we took it to get it replaced but the man said it wasn't the bulb but maybe the wiring. Im starting to think maybe the wiring is causing the mishaps in the locks and doors.
While traveling at approximately 45 to 50 mph vehicle went over a pothole that causedright front tire to blowout.however, drivers side door airbag andpassenger'sside airbag deployed.please provide any additional information/attachments.
While driving consumer was to close to the median and damaged the tires, as a result both drivers side door airbag deployed prematurely (claim#43-r604-736). *yd
Hitting a pothole caused an airbag deployment. Both side curtain airbags and the driver side door airbag deployed.
We hit an average sized pot hole and the side airbags deployed.it was very frightening, and my right ear is ringing.this is totally unacceptable.the car was a loaner from the dealership, because i had brought in a company vehicle to be serviced. *et
While driving down a smooth road, the side impact air bags inadvertantly deployed.*jg
At around 5:30pm at the stop light of the bruckner blvd 138th st exit. I step on the gas ...and at aroung 25 yards ran over a pot hole puncturing the right front tire, also the deploying the ride side and passenger head airbags.

The three passenger doors on my 4 door car will not unlock using either the key fob or the center console door lock button. I only have a manual door lock key hole on my driver door. So the only door that will unlock and open is the driver door. This is because of a faulty gm5 module. Its a very regular thing on bmws and i cant believe it hasnt been recalled already. If there is an emergency, an accident or car goes into a body of water, the passengers in the vehicle will be stuck and will not be able to get out. Emergency services would not be able to get the doors open if need be without using the jaws of life to cut them off when they should simply be able to pull the door handles. The doors will not unlock at all. I have tried everything. Reading online, this is a huge issue with bmws and the dealership charges $750+ to fix it. Luckily, there is someone online that will repair the modules for a fraction of that but with this being an on going issue with most model bmws, there should be something done about it. I am sending mine off to get repaired because i want my door locks operating properly just in case there is an emergency. Can we do something about this though?
Unable to manually unlock car doors.dealer states the gmv computer module has failed and there is no manual override to allow doors to be opened.this situation present a safety hazard for all passengers.
Dme control unit needs to be replaced, because some how liquid got into it, even though bmw sealed the unit .it's consider not under warranty because bmw thinks someone used something to drop liquid into the seal unit.they don't know how the liquid got into the unit and they will not replace it.
Bmw 2001 330i sedan (4 doors).door locks are unresponsive during hot days. I live in orlando florida and this means almost all the year is hot. This is a critical problem becausefor safety reasons you will get locked in your car. I am imagine if you have a car accident and you are not able to open the doors to leave the car?online (http://www.bmwgm5.com/) you can fine how bmw customers are dealing with the same problem. The guy on that website has a fix for that issue.i have seen this problem more than 50 times in 2 years.bmw should do a recall for this issue.

Vehicle window regulators had to be replaced for passenger and drivers windows (regulators were cheap). Driver side door lock failed. Passenger door locks failing. Passenger headlight fell out.rear brake lights need constant repair.if one completely fills up the gas tank, gas fumes will be in the passenger compartment.air conditioning fan needed replacement.water pump failed.instrument panel needed replacement.

There is a current recall for 2002-2005 bmw (various models) regarding the rear lights.we are experiencing the same problems in our 2001 330i. The right rear tail lights do not work and the turn signal blinks and the turn signal sound is twice as fast as normal.i am writing to make your department aware that the model years should be expanded to include the 2001 bmw 330i.
The contact owns a 2001 bmw 330i. The contact stated that only the drivers side doors would open from inside or outside the vehicle using the key fob. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000. Consumer stated front passenger and rear doors will not open from inside and outside.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2001 bmw 330i. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 17v047000 (air bags), 13v172000 (air bags), and 14v028000 (electrical system); however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the issues. The vin was not provided. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available and parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2001 bmw 330i. The contact stated that while stationary, all of the doors locked from the inside and the contact and his family could not exit the vehicle. As a result, the contact and his family required to exit the vehicle from the driver's side door. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
I've replaced the window regulators in my car several times due to the material being cheap. The gears wear out and/or break apart. Each time it's between $150 and $300 to repair. The window stops half-way down and can't be moved. This presents issues with safety during inclement weather and makes it very easy to get into the car to take valuables and potentially steal the vehicle.
My doors will lock but not unlock. I cannot unlock them with my key fob, center console, or with the door handles. Right now the only two doors that will open are my drivers and drivers rear door. I can only unlock the drivers rear by the inside door handles. Passengers have to climb in the drivers side or window.
The contact owns a 2001 bmw 330i. The contact stated that all four tires randomly lost tire pressure and that there was an internal failure associated with the rims and tires. The contact had a repair shop replace all four tires three times. When the air pressure was low, the tpms warning light was not illuminated to indicate a failure. In addition, the fan failed to work properly and the vehicle was running hot to the point that it could overheat. The contact was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 02v138000 (engine and engine cooling), 01v206000 (engine and engine cooling), and 00v383000 (wheels). The manufacturer was contacted to determine if they may be able to provide a repair solution to prevent the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
2001 bmw 330i. Engine stalled any time.happened after engine already warm up (after drove about 1 hour).
I drive a 2001 bmw 330i.it stalled on me a few times already.one time, i was slowing down to make a turn and it stalled on me while the car was slowing down.also, sometimes the accelerator hesitates on me, and it happened twice when i was crossing an intersection and almost got into an accident because of it.*la
Engine stalls on a few occasions when vehicle was turning left at low speed, causing temporary loss of power steering.was able to quickly re-start the engine every time but could have caused crash otherwise. This occurred more frequently after 2008 (and after 60k miles), both at low speed on local roads and at 45 ~ 55 mph on highways, summer or winter conditions, with or without ac turned on.occurrences are infrequent and unpredictable.reported to my bmw dealer several times but dealer was unable to replicate the problem and unable to diagnose the issue.otherwise, the vehicle drives perfectly fine and i love it.
Engine cooling fan inoperative.same problem repaired twice!once @ 282mi and 2715mi. Out of service for 19 days.
Engine cooling fan inoperative.same problem repaired twice!once @ 282mi and 2715mi. Out of service for 19 days.
The contact owns a 2001 bmw 330i.the contact stated that the coolant fan was not working and the engine would not cool down.as a result, the vehicle was overheating.the head gasket was blown and the engine was cracked.the dealer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty and the contact would be responsible for the repairs.the failure and current mileages were less than 81,000.
Vehicle overheated 2 days before it caughtonfire.vehicle was going 30 mphwhenconsumer smelled smoke pullingintodriveway. Dealer has heard ofproblem, andlooking atvehicle.
While driving 55 mph, saw smoke coming from under the hood, consumer pulled over and shut off engine. At that time she saw green liquid pouring out from underneath vehicle. Consumer had vehicle towed to dealer who replaced thermostat.
The contact owns a 2001 bmw 330i. The contact stated that a warning indicator illuminated for the exterior lighting. The contact observed that the passenger side tail light failed. In addition, the contact attempted to switch the light bulb and observed a burn hole. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to submit a complaint through nhtsa. The failure mileage was approximately 208,000.
Drivers side tail light assembly is defective. No brake light, tail light or turn signal. Ground wire in connector melted.

The right rear tail lights do not work and the turn signal blinks and the turn signal sound is twice as fast as normal.i am writing to make your department aware that the model years should be expanded to include the 2001 bmw 330i.
My headlights are very dim due to a a plastic reflector in the headlight housing manufactured by zkwthat burns out prematurely.this causes a very serious road hazard as visibility is greatly diminished.i have nearly struck sever pedestrians, other vehicles and dark objects at night on the highway such as large tire debris.
My 2001 bmw 330i is experiencing tail light problems. The right rear turn signal light does not work and when activating it, it blinks twice as fast on the front and side marker. On the display panel it shows the rear right signal is out. The left rear brake light is also out. This problem has been going on for a few months now at least.the car display on the dash indicates that the rear right brake light is out. I have changed everybulb in the rear of the car which fixed nothing. I then disconnected the the tailight connector on each side to reveal that some of the pins inside of the connection have melted away. I am positive that is the problem as it is with the 2002-2005 model 3 series. I called bmw about the recall and of course 2001 is not included yet! i hope this gets fixed soon. It is extremely inconvenient and dangerous.
The fuel pump/tank sending unit behind passenger's seat is leaking fuel when the tank is full. Strong gasoline vapors are present in the cabin after the vehicle has been sitting a few minutes after a fill up. These vapors pose a significant explosion/fire hazard should someone be smoking as they enter the vehicle or should the electrical system malfunction and become an ignition source. When the fuel pump/sending unit assembly is viewed from the top, there is an enclosed plastic cylindrical pieceapproximately 1/4 of an inch in diameter with a ball shaped end, that is leaking at the top.failure of the fuel/pressure retaining plastic components on fuel pumps and sender units appears to be a common manufacturing defect as similar (unreported) leaking problems are found when researching similar vehicles on the world wide web. Upon exiting the freeway a horrible, continuous metallic scraping noise began.i had heard this periodically on my drive, but until now it was not continuous.looking under the car, i could see the metal gas tank strap hanging and resting on the ground.it was the passenger side front that failed, so the strap was pointing forward.i assume it was only periodically at first because it took some time for my actual gas tank to slip down forcing the strap against the asphalt.knowing that a metal strap was scraping and possibly sparking against the asphalt next to my sagging gas tank, the car had to be towed to the nearest mechanic.
The metal strap that supports the passenger side of the fuel tank just broke off. I was driving down the street and heard a pop sound and then metal grinding and jumping around (like a needle on a scratched record/ a cd) the bracket to which the forward end of this strap mounted to the underbody broke free leaving a gash like tear on the underbody. I am having the car serviced for repairs, but when i called the dealership the parts department didn't have any fixable solution for the mishap. They told me that the only thing that i could do was take it to a body shop to have a fabricated piece made. I've researched this incident and found that there have been several other bmw owners who have experienced the same incident. I am also experiencing the loss of reverse. The drive gear seems to be fine; however, the reverse is not operating. I am now looking into having it serviced for that issue as well. When i called the dealership, they did tell me that there was an open campaign on the transmission (though the service manager said that it was only for programming issues). I had also found that there has been other bmw owners that have experienced this issue as well. I know that they had mentioned that there were two types of transmission (the gm and the zf transmission). There was a mention that it could be a faulty solenoid or the reverse drum has broken/ shredded. None the less you can place into "reverse" and give it gas and nothing happens no movement unless you place into "drive."my car does have the steptronic feature.
The contact owns a 2001 bmw 330i. While driving approximately 60 to 65mph on normal road conditions, there was a loud noise outside of the vehicle. The contact was able to continue driving the vehicle to their residence. The following day, the contact observed that the fuel tank support strap was disengaged. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and the technician confirmed that the failure was related to the fuel tank strap. The technician welded the fuel tank strap in place; however, the contact has concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure and current mileages were unavailable.

I was driving on the highway at 70mph when i heard a pop sound followed by a grinding of some sort. I pulled off the next exit and could hear the continuous scraping noise. I parked my car and could see that the gasoline tank strap had separated from the frame and it was just hanging from the back. The gas tank was 4 inches from the concrete.i had it towed home, and needless to say i am glad the tank did not hit the ground and explode. I see this is an ongoing problem with all e46 bmws. Please look into this issue before someone gets killed.
While driving on the freeway i suddenly heard a thump or pop followed by a grinding noise.i pulled over at the next exit and discovered that the bracket holding the strap that holds the fuel tank on the passenger side had torn off the body and the fuel talk was left hanging a few inches above the ground.the shop where i normally take my car for service couldn't fix it and recommended a body shop where the bracket could be welded back on to the body.
The stainless steel strap that supports the fuel tank came off of my vehicle yesterday while driving on the highway. The strap is spot welded at 4 points on the front. The spot welds failed, leaving the strap dragging behind my car at highway speeds. As a result, the fuel tank itself is sagging about 4" from the surface of the road. The spot welds do not sufficiently support this strap - this seems to be an obvious safety issue. More robust mounting points should have been incorporated during design and manufacturing.

The contact stated that all attempts to shift into reverse failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was confirmed that the d-g clutch drum needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure but did not provide any assistance due to the vehicle not being included in any recalls. The approximate failure and current mileage was 70,000.... 2001 330i bmw. Consumer states problems with reversein transmission. *tgw
My 2001 bmw 330i stopped going in reverse last wednesday.apparently, this is a known issue, as i was very suprised to see dozens of websites dedicated to this no reverse issue.how come there was no recall for this common failure?
No warning light. Put in reverse and i heard a pop noise. I thought my stuff was moving in trunk. Put in gear and drove. When i came to full stop and try to reverse. It doesn't work. More like reverse was in neutral. All other gear is fine except reverse. I have a bmw 330i sedan, 2001 3l. I take good care of my car. I been driving on and off with this car for 4 years since gas is expensive. Now it completely died. They should have a recall on faulty transmission.i heard septonic transmission are made by gm.
While backing up, the transmission suddenly jumped out of reverse and went into neutral. Reverse could no longer be engaged.the transmission was removed and examined. The reverse clutch drum had sheared and physically failed.complete transmission rebuild required.
On monday may 3rd, 2010, i started my 2001 bmw 330i and selectedthe reverse gear on the automatic transmission, the car did not move in the reverse gear, it drives forward with no problems. I haveread some of the complaints and postings on the web.is there a class action suit filed against bmw as it seems the transmission was not designedproperly andsubstandard specifications were used in the design and construction of the components of the transmission, a manufacture defect.i have been able to schedulean appointment for the car to be inspected and repaired on monday may 17th ,2010 i am sure the cost and extent will be evident at that time. As i have been informed the most common problem with the reverse is failureof the d clutch drum , because the snap ringcomes off of the drum , after that what happensis different on each transmission. This is a poorinferior design, and bmw is aware of it. They have redesigned the clutch drum ,to move the snap ring away from the drum's edge and constructed the drum of stronger material and an increased of the drums thickness.the redesignedand improved material is available from bmw and the repair cost may exceed the current value of some of the bmw models affected. It's the cost in time and dollarsto me of a poor and knowing inferior design and material application, a willfuldecision on bmw's part as was the design and material specification for their coil suspension springs.
Bmw330itransmissions reverse went outchecking internet several people are having the sameproblemwas coming home put auto in reverse to park in drive no reverse out of the blueneed your help!
Whenvehicle is driven in first gear at low speedsit will overheat and completely shutdown, cause unknown.dealer cannot identify the problem.please give any further.
I own an automatic 2001 bmw 330i. I have had no prior problems with this vehicle and on march 28, 2010, i pulled into a parking space and when i put the car in reverse (2 minutes later - without stopping the engine) the car did not move backwards. I proceeded to turn off the car, wait and put it back into reverse and pressed on the gas. The vehicle rev's up but does not move as if it were in neutral. After some research online it seems the 2001 330i power train is a common failure with no prior warnings even with all maintenance done to the vehicle.
Whenvehicle is driven in first gear at low speeds vehicle will overheat and shutdown without warning. Dealer has not determined the cause.please give any further details.
Reverse suddenly stopped working with no warning.all other forward gears work fine - (automatic transmission).based on a quick search on the internet this is a common problem with 3 series bmw's.
I have a bmw 2001 3330i. The car has 120,000 miles on it. I have had the car for one year, purchased used with 106,000 miles. I was backing out of my driveway when suddenly and without warning, the reverse gear disengaged. The reverse gear has not worked since, approximately two weeks. The other gears work fine. The car has an automatic transmission.
Car's transmission will not engage reverse gear. Electrical detects reverse gear, reverse lights, backup sensors and mirrors functional, transmission will not reverse, acts as if car is in neutral.noticed online it is a very common problem. Cost of repairs: over $5,000. Price paid for vehicle in perfect condition: $9,000. Mileage, 105k.

2001 330i bmw ,81000 miles no warning lost reverse, while on a downward slope trying to back into a parking space, almost hit the car parked in front of me, had to have 3 valet guys push me into the parking space. Then the next day my husband took it out at first it went into reverse so he drove it parked tried to back up the carno reverse, someone pushed the car backfor him it hit another car and damaged the headlight and dented it.
Nothing happened leading up to my transmission won't go into reverse.it just failed and won't engage.found out this happens very frequently on bmw transmission. *ln
2001 bmw 330i, 88,500 miles. Reverse failed completely without warning. The car has the zf5hp19 transmission which seems to have the common problem of the d-g clutch drum failing. The car was well maintained with no symptoms leading up to the failure. My mechanic replaced the reverse drum at a cost of $2116.34. I have a copy of the service order and havein my possession the failed part.
Nothing led to the problem but my bmw reverse stopped working. Last fall the transmission was flushed per recommended maintenance. No reverse has stopped working.
2001 bmw 330i no reverse.
Design flaw in transmission, specifically the torque converter, on 2000-2002 e46. Requiring rebuilding and or replacing torque converter.bmw is aware of problems and is widespread.
I just bought my 2001 330i bmw two months ago with 103,000 miles on it. The check engine light came on and the dealer says i need a new torque converter. They want $2000 to put a new one in. I then looked around here and saw that this is a common problem. Also i had to change two of the window regulators. - another common problem with bmw. Is bmw doing anything about this? why does bmw make the public pay for the problems they made?

Broken welds on fuel tank strap bracket on passenger side. Caused bracket to fall off and gas tank to hang low to an unsafe height from the ground. Dangerous to an unknowing driver who is not aware of the true danger of this failure. This is happening quite often on this '01 bmw 3 series from thread below.http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=669079&highlight=gas+tank+bracket.

As a result, the contact and his family required to exit the vehicle from the driver's side door. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
Vehicle window regulators had to be replaced for passenger and drivers windows (regulators were cheap). Driver side door lock failed. Passenger door locks failing. Passenger headlight fell out.rear brake lights need constant repair.if one completely fills up the gas tank, gas fumes will be in the passenger compartment.air conditioning fan needed replacement.water pump failed.instrument panel needed replacement.
When stopped after driving, i attempted to exit the vehicle from the driver side door. The door would not open. The door was unlocked. I crawled out the passenger side. I tried to open the door from the outside. Same result. The driver side door now does not open by any means. Diver side door will not open utilizing key fob, from the inside and from the outside of the vehicle. From reading online posts, it seems to be an issue with others in different combinations. It could be the door handle cable or door actuator. Regardless, this is a dangerous situation, due to the fact that if the driver needed to exit the car immediately, driver would not be able to do so.

Windows will not function, neither up nor down.the regulators plastic fails prematurelydue to fatigue.this occurs on most 3series and 5series.
Since the purchase of my car in may 2001, the gas pedal seems to have a problem when shifting from first gear to second gear.
Bmw 3 series (e36-e46) 1991-2005window regulators break constantly.
I've had upwards of 10 window regulators replaced in my car over the last 12-13 years.they have cheap plastic gears that wear out or break apart because they've become so brittle because of the heat.each time it's between $100 and $250 to fix depending on who fixes it and it's a pain if the window stops half-way down and can't be moved.
R. Rear window came off track. R. Front did same few months ago. I see signs that other two windows will go very soon. This is happening too much/soon. It appears to me the window regulator is broken on a window that is hardly ever used. I expect dealer will charge me-4mos past factory warranty period.
Windows would go off track when trying to go up or down. Would make weird noises when using the windows.
Window regulators (all windows) fail on a regular basis due to manufacture design in equipment. If window stops working in the open position your stuck until repaired. The repair lasts a short time and then the regulator breaks again.this is also a safety issue if one is in a situation were the auto needs to be lock or driven on a freeway.

I was driving my bmw 2001 330i on dover chester rd crossing the intersection of morris tpke in randolph, nj when i hit a pot hole and patch work on the road.the passenger side door and window airbags deployed cutting the power to the engine and turning on the emergency hazard lights.i immediately pulled off the road and saw thati had a flat tire but no damage to tire rim and no damage to the body of the car.there was no impact or reason for the airbag system to deploy.
