The passenger seat occupancy detection module is faulty in our car. It was officially diagnosed by a bmw dealer on 20 feb 2012.we are being told that our car's production time falls 1 month out of the previous recall on these same parts (nhtsa action number ea080001).bmw is refusing to fix it.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact started the ignition and noticed that both the air bag and seat belt warning indicators were illuminated. The failure would also occur when driving at various speeds. The warning lights remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and they detected the malfunction was contributed to the front passenger seat sensor mat. There was a recall related to the defect under nhtsa campaign id number 08v384000 (air bags:frontal). The manufacturer was notified and they informed the contact that the vin was not included in the recall defect. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

I started my car that morning and the airbag/seatbelt sensor light came on even though my seatbelt was fastened.i fastened the passenger seat belt to see if that was it but it stayed on.i took the car to the bmw dealership in augusta, ga and they charged me $120 to check it.they stated it would cost $530 to repair it.i decided to check if there was a recall and i see that this is a common complaint about these vehicles.other vehicles within the year model have been included in a recall but 325xi have been excluded.since the same malfunction of the same item is happening, it should be recalled on 325xi as well.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. While operating the vehicle, the air bag sensor indicator remained illuminated, which indicated a possible failure with the air bags. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the occupancy sensor mat was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact later received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags) for the same failure. The contact was informed that parts were not available to repair the vehicle. The local dealer (hoffman bmw in watertown, ct) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 55,000.

Front passenger air bag warning light illuminates and warning signals sound every time a passenger sits in the front passenger seat, regardless of occupant size.this results in the passenger air bag being deactivated.this has been reported to bmw of fort myers (two occasions in person in 2009 and 2010) and bmw (via their online customer email system two times in 2010 and 2011).neither party is willing to check the system or repair it even though the nhtsa website indicates (1) bmw recalled 200,000 vehicles with this issue and (2) bmw has extended the warranty to 10 years without any mileage limit.i need nhtsa's assistance in getting bmw to review and fix this issue similarly to the hundreds of thousand of other cars they have recalled.

Front seat occupant protection mat.

Air bag sign keeps going on/off. There was a recall 08v-384 but bmw is saying my vehicle was out of the build window. I have the same issue as nhtsa recall campaign number: 08v384000 (nhtsa action number: ea08001).

I contacted bmw because there was a recall on 2006 bmw 325xi for a faulty met sensor for passenger airbags. My vehicle is experiencing the same problem but they are telling me it is not part of the recall.i just purchased the vehicle in february of 2013 and have no records of recalls from the previous owner. Please advise if this is part of the current recall...updated 04/07/14

Passenger side seat occupancy mat has failed and needs replacement according to the dealer. Car hardly ever has a passenger yet mat deteriorated. There is a recall for this issue for same model year but my vin is not included and more than likely should be.

Takata air bagsmy air bag light keeps coming on, my car is effected by the recall but when i run the vin # it's not showing up. It's a safety problem and i'm afraid the air bags will deploy while driving.

Air bag warning light started to come on with no apparent cause.i took the car to the dealer, and was told that the mat in the passenger seat had failed and needed to be replaced, and that it was a safety issue.cost was over $1,100 plus tax.i now see that there is a recall for 2006 325xi models with sport seats -- my car does not have sport seats, but had the exact same problem.i believe that all models should be included in the recall.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact stated that the passenger air bag seat mat sensor was defective. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the occupant air sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to pay for the defective part. My airbag warning light is on.the bmw dealership will not provide me any information as to the maker of the airbag other than telling me it's not one of the recalled tanaka airbags.many other bmw models of the same year have been recalled for defective tanaka airbags, so i'm not reassured by their response .a friend with same year, make and model of bmw suffered permanent eye damage when his airbag deployed unexpectedly in slow moving collision.i am afraid of the same consequences.bmw, as well as other manufacturers, should be able to provide customers proof that a tanaka, or similar defective airbag, was not used.

This complaint is regarding a passenger restraint system malfunction alert/issue that seems to be covered by a recent bmw recall i found on your website.this alert started to come up in my car intermittently almost 2 years ago, but it now stays on. I heard about a recall and was waiting for additional information from bmw but have not received any. I went to the bmw center in alexandria, va this week (8/15/14) to see if this was covered by the recall and was told that it was not. I also called their 1-800 customer service number and was told the same thing. However, i just found a recall notice for this issue (see link below) on this website where it specifically includes my model year car (bmw 2006 325xi). My car is now not passing va inspection due to this issue.i was told this repair would cost over $2,000, which i don't have at this moment.please advise as to how i can best expedite the necessary repairs under this recall, to deal with this security issue and so that i can renew my inspection sticker as required by va law.

Both of the air bags, drivers and passenger turned off and i feel very unsafe driving my car. I checked online and my car has a recall for them.however my specific vin for my car does not have a recall although it has the same problems with the airbags

Air bag and passenger seat belt indicator on center dash cluster lit up during normal driving. Took car to dealership for repair and was told the air bag seat mat was bad and needed to be replaced. Also told that repair would cost $900. Decided to eat cost as it is a major safety issue as air bags will not deploy during a crash. Total cost for repairs: qty 1 part# 52-10-7-244-127 basic seat u 1 cost $385.10 , qty 2 part# 52-20-1-964-201 clip 13 cost $3.84 ,qty 35 part#52-10-945-543 clamp 134 cost $$22.40. Total parts=$411.34 ; total labor=$554.60, total bill for repair=$965.94.i would not mind if this would be the end of the issue, but it is not. I picked up the car from daniels bmw of allentown on june 14 2013, and today (june 21, 2013) the issue came back. 7 days after i had the car repaired for the issue, the exact same issue reappeared. This is a major concern of mine as the front passenger seat of my car is almost always in use by myself or my spouse. After doing a bit of reading on bmw online forums, i see that there is a recall forthe exact sensor mat as installed in my car, for almost all other seats containing the exact seat mat, but not for my car, and others like me. I have gone onto the bmw na website and did a recall search for my car and found that the recall does not apply to my car. This is a major safety issue for bmw and they should stand behind their product and repair all seats affected without question.i will be taking my car back to daniels bmw of allentown for courtesy repair and hopefully they will replace...again....the broken mat for free.hopefully this will not be the beginning of an ongoing recurring issue.

No accident ever occurred, but the vehicle developed a passenger airbag problem.i eventually had it fixed for about $1100 -- the sensor in the passenger seat had to be replaced, or else the passenger airbag would not deploy in an accident.other 3-series in that year received free replacements of the defect, but when they ran my vin, they said my car didn't qualify.seeing as it apparently has the same problem as these other cars, i'm not sure what the distinction is, as it is a serious safety issue.

I have received a sensor light stating that i have a passenger restraint malfunction.then it goes away after a few days until someone else sits down which would lead me to believe that it has to do with the pressure sensor mat on the passenger side.i have read that this happens to be arecall for bmw but my vin apparently is not covered in the recall.i am extending this complaint in the hopes that bmw will investigate and extend the recall to more models with this issue.

Passenger restraint malfunction error indicator on.known problem for several years, but only 200,000 cars recalled.more reported each year but if vin is not on list then owner is expected to pay for repairs for a known acknowledge problem.

The passenger seat occupancy mat has failed.although there is a recall for the same model, seat type (sport) and manufacturer date (2006/02), bmw does not consider our car part of the recall.recall campaign 13v-564: e90, e91 front passenger airbag seat occupancy sensor matmodele90 (3 series sedan) e91 (3 series sports wagon) only vehicles are equipped with sport seat produced from december 2005 to september 2006bmw has decided to amend the 2008 voluntary recall (nhtsa id: 08v-384) involving the frontpassenger air bag seat occupancy sensor mat.

I am lodging a complaint against bmw usa.i have been calling and writing bmw for the past 2 years pleading for them to replace my recalled airbag.bmw first sent me a notice regarding my recalled takata airbag 2 1/2 years ago.bmw has still not replaced my airbag, stating lack or available parts as the reason they will not replace my airbag.this is a potentially life threatening defect. They ha be had 2 1/2 years to remedy this problem on my car, and still refuse to do so.please help before someone dies or is seriously injured.[xxx][xxx][xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'

My airbag light and seatbelt light were on right after i purchased the car i called bmw and they said there is a recall on that problem but my vin # was not included in it.if they know about the problem why don't they fix it.

When a person sits in the front passenger seat, the dashboard air bag light lights up.also the ceiling mounted warning light lights up, stating, "passenger airbag off."my understanding is that, if the vehicle would be involved in a collision and had a passenger in the front seat, the airbag would not deploy.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact stated that the air bag sensor would remain illuminated.the contact was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 13v564000 (air bags) but had experienced the same failure as listed in the recall. The vehicle was to be inspected, diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 112000. Updated 08/12/14*lj

My car was having the passenger restraint malfunction displayed on the screen and it was intermittently on and off for a long time but recently the fault is constantly on doesn't matter what i do even when i have the passenger or not.this is a safety issue so searched to understand it better and found the nhtsa campaign id number: 08v384000 for the recall of the passenger seat mat defect which covers my car but for some reason i've contacted the bmw dealer where i bought my car from to see if i can get it fixed based on the recall for free of charge but the dealer told me that i car is not covered even though my car is one of defected car based on manufacturing date.the cost of the mat replacement is over $1000, i think bmw should fix my car for free since this is a safety recall issue.please have bmw to include my car in the recall list.

Passenger seat pad sensor failed and says air bag will not deploy.even though there is a recall notice for this model, yr and mode of failure, the dealer reports that my vehicle was made 1 week before the recall affected vehicles.is this true and could there have been an exception for 1 week?repair shop indicates this is an identical failure mode to recalled vehicles and seat pad will need replacement.seems to be too big of a coincidence to not also be related?

Airbag light stays on, there are many that have the same issue and bmw has an active safety campaign 08v-384 but owners are being told that the vin is not effective, thus it is not covered. Yet, when you ask the dealership what vin is covered, they do not know. Contacted bmw corporate office and was told they are not able to search any other bmw except the vin that i can provide.would it be possible to obtain all the vin that are effected under recall 08v-384? i just hope no one gets seriously injured in an accident just because the air bags did not deploy. I bought this car for it's safety standards and now will have compromise or spend $1400 to have it repaired.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact stated that while traveling 45 mph, the front passenger air bag indicator illuminated. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred only when the front passenger seat was occupied. The vehicle was diagnosed and the detection mat system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 74,000.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was sporadically illuminated. In addition, the passenger's side air bag would not activate when the passenger's seat was occupied. The dealer advised that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags). The contact was concerned that in the even of a crash, the air bags would possibly not deploy. The manufacture confirmed that the vehicle was not included in the recall and declined to provide additional assistance to the contact. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 78,000.

I am very frustrated as i own a 2006 bmw 325xi with approx 55k miles and have a passenger seat airbag malfunction.at this time the passenger airbag is deactivated all the time. This is something that has a recall but it is vin specific and my vehicle isn't included.if a quick internet search is performed there are many forums where people have this same exact issue and they are not included in the recall. The recall describes my problem verbatim but i am not covered.this is a safety issue because my passenger airbags will not deploy if there was a crash.they would not deploy because the sensor in the seat is bad and was admittedly a poor design.i don't think consumers should be on the hook to fix such a crucial feature such as airbags or any part with a bad design that could mean life or death.i have already spent more time on this than i should have been required to.i talked to mechanics and they couldn't tell me why one was covered and another one not as they are exactly the same sensor.i would assume more complaints are not made because of the time required to do so and most people just take their vehicles to the dealer and pay the price.especially most bmw owners.i have been around and working on vehicles my whole life and very seldom take a vehicle to a shop for repair.i research everything i do and my research has shown me this is a known issue and it should not cost me any money.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and the contact was advised that the mat sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact that his vehicle was not included in recall nhtsa campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags). The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

The front passenger seat sensor in my 2006 bmw is defective whether the car is in motion or stationary but only when the car is on. Making the passenger airbags turned off during the event of a crash, many other 2006 bmws like mine are affected with this issue. A recall has been done for bmws for models 2007 and newer but not for the 2006 model year. A recall needs to be done for this year make to insure the safety of people and passengers riding in this car.

The red passenger-side air bag and seat belt lights come on and stay on, whether or not anyone is sitting in the passenger seat. Bmw has told me it will cost $1,300 to replace, yet it seems from other complaints here and from other online forums that the mat sensor causing this problem was defectively manufactured.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact stated that the passenger air bag warning indicator illuminated and remained lit. The contact called bmw of lynchburg (located at 2643 lakeside dr lynchburg, va 24501) who stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags). The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not covered per nhtsa campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags). The failure mileage and vin were unknown.

Fault light for air bag & seatbelt on dash lghted, had scan done it shows a faulty passenger seat sensor i am concerned because the air bag for the passenger is not working.

Bmw recall 2006 13v564000 was issued in november of 2013 to recall the front passenger seat occupant detection mat that determines if and how the passenger frontal air bag should deploy in a crash because it may fatigue and develop cracks which could lead to a system failure.my vehicle, a 2006 bmw 325xi with was not included in the recall.however, this exact problem occurred to me in april of 2012.the front passenger seat mat failed (cracked) and would not allow the air bag to deploy.the service team at towne bmw in williamsville, ny stated "we have seen a lot of these" at that time.i believe my vehicle should be included in the recall.it seems odd that this recall would be issued to a select number of vehicles that were affected when additional vehicles, including mine, were affected by the same manufacturer's defect.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact stated that the front passenger's side air bag sensor light was illuminated and would illuminate if the passenger's seat was occupied or not. The contact notified the manufacturer of the defect and was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 13v56400(air bags). The contact believed that the vehicle was experiencing the same defect as listed in the recall campaign. The vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was 82,000.

At first, it was intermittant, the passanger seat belt/air bay signal would display even though no one was in the passenger seat.then, signal was on all the time.mechanic found a bad part oc3 matt.had it not been replaced, the airbag would not have worked on the passenger side.

The air bag light / occupant detect sensor needed to be replaced because it was defective.i paid over $1000 to repair.my mechanic told me there is a safety recall of the air bag frontal sensor control module for my vehicle year, make and model.i never received the recall notice and bmw claims the recall is vin specific.this seems unsafe and unfair as this is the very problem that i repaired.i have traveled thousands of miles transporting my family in the front passenger seat without knowing that they were not protected by the air bags.

The idrive control panel is showing an alert that the passenger airbag has failed.i contacted bmw customer service and they say my vin is not included in nhtsa campaign number 13v564000 (air bags) even though the description of the problem matches my problem exactly. I have a 2006 bmw 325xi with standard seats and according to 13v564000 i should be eligible for coverage under the extended warranty. Bmw is telling me i am responsible for the repairs.

The passenger airbags and/or its components need to be replaced. There was a 10 year extended warranty but it should be recalled. I was 1 month late over the recall. After multiple calls to bmw north america, they refuse to pay for the repairs.every time a passenger sits in the car, the air bag error code goes on in the dashboard. The passenger air bag off light stays on (stationary and moving) and possibly compromising all other airbag systems. Also, there are some situations where the air bag error code stays on even when the passenger exits the vehicle.this is a safety hazard that needs to be recalled immediately!

Passenger restraint system - malfunction indicator light just came on.found numerous articles on internet and nhtsa recalls for "front passenger seat occupant detection mat defect".i contacted bmw and was advised that there was no recall for my vin, however, the problem appears to be identical to the numerous other complaints.

The approximate failure mileage was 51,000.

The red passenger-side air bag and seat belt lights come on and stay on, whether or not anyone is sitting in the passenger seat. My bmw dealer has told me this means the passenger airbags are deactivated and this is a common occurrence caused by a faulty sensor.

There has already been a major recall for most 2006 326xi models that needs to be also extendes to my vehicle. It is obviously an issue on other models, and the manufscturer needs to correct this before people are harmed since by default the module assumes noone is sitting there and will not deploy.

Passenger airbags sensors come on and off, seat belt light on with passenger in car.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated as the engine was started. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the air bag sensor was replaced using the same remedy as described in the recall, despite the vehicle being excluded. Damaged airbag sensor mat on front passenger seat that disables the airbag from deploying on the passenger side when the front passenger seat is occupied.this is a common problem, that bmw only recalled 200,000 in 2008.very costly and dangerous.

In my 2006 bmw 325xi, the air bag warning light, the seatbelt restraint warning light, and the overhead passenger airbag off light are sometimes all on even if an adult is sitting in the passenger seat.this is the same problem that's described in the passenger mat occupancy sensor recall/extended warranty but bmw says the recall/extended warranty is vin specific and my car is not covered.my car is out of warranty.i took it to the bmw dealer and paid a $130 diagnosis fee.they told me that the passenger mat occupancy sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced for an additional $1350.i declined and my service advisor offered me a $130 discount.i declined that too.bmw should fix for this for no charge because a) it's the same problem as in the recall/extended, and b) it's a safety issue.if i have an accident with an adult in the passenger seat, the air bag may not deploy and it could result in serious injuries.why is bmw not held accountable for this defect?

Air bag sign keeps going on/off. There was a recall 08v-384 but bmw is saying my vehicle was out of the build window. I have the same issue as nhtsa recall campaign number: 08v384000 (nhtsa action number: ea08001).

The dealer inspected the vehicle again and stated that the independent battery system core had failed. The vehicle was repaired. Bmw 3 series, 2006, e90 body type. After inserting the key in the contact all power went off.i experienced twice such complete loss of power, for the entire vehicle: engine, doors, lights and even the key cannot be removed from contact. Once i touched the battery with a voltmeter and measured the voltage (that was perfect) the power came back. Though after the power was restored while driving to dealership the car started to behave erratically, windshield wipers starting by themselves, radio turning on and off, noise in the back of the car ( either speakers or electric). Dealership diagnosis identified the connector on power cable between the battery and the engine as the cause of the total power loss. The cable connector appears to be almost entirely corroded. Incidentally this very cable was subject of bmw voluntary recall but only for vehicles manufactured after 2007 ( rcdnn-13v044-8968(1).pdf ).though in my case it appears to be the other end of the same cable that is outside of the car body, exposed to corrosion. The part number cable subject of the recall appears to have been installed also on 2005 and 2006 bmw 3xx models though they were not included in the recall.

When the ibs is plugged in it drains the battery fast , then it won't start unless i unplug the b+ blue plug , then plug the b+ cable back in after started so the valvetronic eccentric shaft motor has power , otherwise it goes into limp mode without it plugged in , i thought there was a recall on this but it starts on the 2007 e90 i guess mine is a 2006 .

When the air conditioner was activated, smoke filled the cabin of the vehicle. Flames appeared and the vehicle exploded. The fire department extinguished the fire and filed a report. The passenger sustained burns to the hand, which required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

This vehicle has an electronic lock out on the steering wheel that prevent the steering from unlocking as the operator attempts to start the engine. The code read out to be a115 or a116. This is a known issue and bmw has not been asked by nhtsa to recall.please works with bmw to remedy this faulty on their design. The following design was removed from steering column as bmw known this is a problem from start.this problem occurs while the vehicle is in park and refuses to release the steering column.

While driving car will intermittently and briefly experience full electronic outage causing the instrument cluster, vehicle lights, and electronic steering column lock to engage. As soon as the electronic power returns service lights display on the dashboard until i stop, fully power off the vehicle with the ignition button and restart the car. This has all happened at driving speeds ranging between 15 and 70 mph, fortunately while driving straight. If i or anyone else would happen to be in a turn and the electronic steering wheel lock engage the results could potentially be life threatening. This vehicle is a prior dealer lease then sold to a rental company then purchased by me. The vehicle remains unmodified and has beeb maintained and serviced with all oem or equivalent parts.

Found out today, after may attempts to resolve a noise in the front end. The right front motor mounts bolts had broken, causing the engine to move very freely inside the engine. This was only found out after a complete right from drive axle failure due tot he position of the engine causing the cv boot to rub the sub frame. This caused a complete loss of cv grease, and subsequent failure of the cv joint. The cv joint then proceed to grenade while driving over some rail road tracks. The outer axle then drove itself into the ground causing the vehicle to rise, and loss of control for a brief moment. The car car traveling at approximately 25 mph. Upon further investigastion i found this is not an isolated incident witht he motor mount bolts sheering off flush to the engine.

Left blinker repeatedly keeps not working, have had it repaired numerous times and it keeps not working?

3 of the 4 door locks on my 2006 bmw 325xi failed. A friend was in the passenger seat and once we stopped and attempted to get out, the passenger door would not open. She was trapped in the car and had to be removed via the passenger window. The two rear doors and one passenger door would not open either. The buttons would not work to open them and the doors could not be opened by pulling the handle inside. My 76 year old grandmother had just left the car 20 minutes earlier and has difficulty with mobility, it was 94 degrees today, what would i do if she was trapped in the car in this heat? the problem is constant and no corrective actions have been taken for fear of further damage.

The door locks on my 2006 bmw 325xi all failed at once without any warning.the front passenger and both rear doors do not unlock at all, either electronically or manually.the driver side door will open with the key and is the only one, so far, that can be opened from inside the vehicle.had passengers been in the car and the car was involved in an accident, it would have been extremely difficult to exit the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact stated that he was unable to open any of the vehicle doors, other than the driver side, by using the key fob or manually. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that one of the lock mechanisms was defective and the sensor was not strong enough as a result both the lock mechanism and sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 76,000. Door locking issues, doors will not open from inside of the car when handle is opened by passengers. Doors will not unlock via key fob. Possible issue with control module gm5 within the bmw dashboard. *ln

3 doors on the car would not open from inside or outside of the car.luckily the driver door still worked.in the event of an accident or fire this is a severe hazard.

Passenger airbags sensors come on and off, seat belt light on with passenger in car.

My airbag light and seatbelt light were on right after i purchased the car i called bmw and they said there is a recall on that problem but my vin # was not included in it.if they know about the problem why don't they fix it.

The red passenger-side air bag and seat belt lights come on and stay on, whether or not anyone is sitting in the passenger seat. My bmw dealer has told me this means the passenger airbags are deactivated and this is a common occurrence caused by a faulty sensor.

Air bag sign keeps going on/off. There was a recall 08v-384 but bmw is saying my vehicle was out of the build window. I have the same issue as nhtsa recall campaign number: 08v384000 (nhtsa action number: ea08001).

At first, it was intermittant, the passanger seat belt/air bay signal would display even though no one was in the passenger seat.then, signal was on all the time.mechanic found a bad part oc3 matt.had it not been replaced, the airbag would not have worked on the passenger side.

This vehicle, along with hundreds, maybe thousands, of others are afflicted with a known defect bmw is well aware of (and has subsequently made engineering changes after 2006) involving the steering wheel lock in e90 and e91 chassis. An amber or red steering wheel lock indicator will light for no apparent reason nor warning rendering the vehicle non-drivable (nor towable) and non-startable.bmw says the only solution is a complete change of the steering column.a very expensive repair.the owners blog shows hundreds of other dissatisfied owners with similar problems.i think you should have a recall of these bmw's because of the obvious defect in its engineering.and, furthermore, since bmw changed the whole steering lock system in their later models, they too knew of its faults.proving their guilt.

I was unable to start vehicle because the steering wheel was locked, there was an amber steering wheel symbol being displayed. After searching for answers, i found that this is a common problem many drivers have had. This problem needs to be fixed as it is not easily detectable and can happen unexpectedly.

First time i noticed the elv steering wheel lock malfunction. I just parked my car, turned off engine, and took out the key fob. I noticed on the instrument cluster a picture of a steering wheel and a pad lock. So i put the key fob back in the slot and the car wouldn't start. Then trying couple times taking out & putting the key fob in the ignition slot and turning the wheel left and right, the car finally started.

Steering wheel lock indicator renders the vehicle not able to start.bmw says the only solution is a replacement of steering column. The steering column was replaced at 25000 miles. 2 years later at 49000 miles, the vehicle will need to do it again. This will be the3rd set of steering column within the last 7 years.it is cleanly a design and defect. It should be recall.

I woke up one morning to start my vehicle and as i started my engine i received a warning sign.the warning sign indicated a circle with an exclamation point. I then noticed my car was not able to shift gears, leaving my car in park. I took it to the dealer to have my car diagnosed and they mentioned that my steering column needs to be replaced. After a week i went to get my car from the dealer i was not able to afford the repairs that needed to be done. I then took this issue up with my dealer and warranty where they was not able to assist me with this issue. I kept getting a run around and the general manager where i got my at from tried to help. His assistance with my car failed. He couldn't diagnose the problem that my car was given. He then returned my car and my car still has this issue. I had my car for only a month when this issue occurred.

Ever since i purchased this car, it'd display a yellow icon with a steering wheel lock. On this date, the steering wheel lock failed to disengage and the icon was red, leaving me stranded. This same issue occurred to my friend last month as he has the exact same car as me. According to many online sources, many others have had the exact same issue.

My steering wheel lock indicator was warning me that it was locked (amber light) ultimately the indicator turned red when trying to start the car and stranded me.

After work yesterday when i tried to start my car, the yellow locked steering light came on and the car would not start. After i jerked on the steering wheel, the light went off and the car started. While on my way home, on the highway, the steering locked again and the red light came on. I was going about 75 mph at this time. I hit the clutch and brakes and jerked the wheel again causing it to release. Luckily it was not rush hour.it has been parked ever since. It has 114k miles.

Steering wheel lock issue causing issues when trying to start ignition. The steering wheel lock will happen 2-3 times a week and eventually disable completely after a few months. Had to replace with a new steering column.

My 2006 bmw 325xi has had the amber steering lock light on for over a month and will not go off. It is a common problem with this make and model of car and bmw has refused to fix it. My car is 3000 miles past the warranty and it needs a new steering column.

This past week a yellow padlock popped up on my dashboard when i went to start my car. Upon future research i discovered that this it is a fault with the electric wheel lock.i have yet to find out what the route cause yet but from what i have seen, this issue is wide spread and many cases lead to the car not starting or the wheels locking up. This could cost upwards of $1500 to replace the steering wheel column.i am afraid if there is an issue with the steering wheel column, it could not only prevent my car from starting (as it has with many other cases), but could cause my steering to lock up while i am driving.this is something i can barely afford to fix, but absolutely can't afford not to. Please look into this.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. While the contact was driving approximately 35 mph, the power steering warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.the dealer offered $200.00 towards the total repair cost. The failure and current mileages were 45,620.

My vehicle had the steering wheel lock with the amber light. Apparently, there are numerous 3 series with this issue in us and world. This is common for the e90s. Below is a list of those that have been reported to your agency. This fault could potentially happen while driving causing the occupants to lose steering control. Reports: 10380778, 10378186 - 330i 10322165 - 325xi 10380077, 10353644 - 325i 10173714,10369685,10341920,10341836,10238977,10181405 and many others. When are you going to hold bmw accountable for this major issue and safety hazard?

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact stated that he was unable to open any of the vehicle doors, other than the driver side, by using the key fob or manually. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that one of the lock mechanisms was defective and the sensor was not strong enough as a result both the lock mechanism and sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 76,000. Updated 06/06/12 the consumer stated the same failure occurred to the fuel door, rendering him unable to fuel the car. Updated 06/07/12

Door actuator failure.driver side door will not open from outside unless you use the physical key, will not open from inside once it locks and you must climb over seat to exit back or passenger doors.sometimes door will unlock if you roll down the window and use the key on the outside lock but usually that does not work.serious safety issue, you could be trapped inside the car in an emergency.doors lock automatically at 5 mph or so and you are locked inside with a handle that does not work.

3 doors on the car would not open from inside or outside of the car.luckily the driver door still worked.in the event of an accident or fire this is a severe hazard.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle hits a bump, the front right tire shakes and makes noise. The dealer looked at the vehicle and stated that the problem was caused by the lower control arm. The vehicle had not been repaired.there is a recall campaign number 06v40000, which deals with the lower control arm, however his vehicle is not included. The vin was not available at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was not known, the current mileage was 90000.

I was driving my 2006 bmw 3-series (325xi sports wagon), with only 30,000 miles on it, yesterday. I heard something break and felt like my car was out of control.my mechanic said the lower control arm on passenger rear wheel snapped.if i was driving fast i could have crashed.

Front passenger seat belt light and airbag light stay on even when a passenger is seated in car. Bmw diagnosed a problem with the passenger seat occupancy mat. This is the same problem as the 2008 recall, but my model is not included in the recall. I spoke with the office of the president of bmw who says that they are not responsible since my car was not involved in the recall. They said it is a different part that was responsible for the mat not working properly. I feel that since my car has the same safety problem, even if it is a different part, it should be fixed by bmw without cost to me.

Passenger sat in passenger seat and airbag light went off. Was told by dealer it was because of a bad sensor mat for my make and model but not my car specific.

My son turned right from a complete stop at the stop sign. He accelerated to the appropriate speed prior to the upcoming turn (25mph) he then let off the gas going into the turn to coast before braking. The car continued to accelerate up to 40-45 mph due to floor mat entrapment because there is no floor mat retention system. He was losing control of the car as he tried to move the floor mat away from the gas pedal. He then slid off the road while continuing to brake, overcorrected and went off the other side as well. All the while he was trying to stop the car.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact stated that when he would activate the automatic folding mirrors, the passenger's side mirror would turn completely around and face the front of the vehicle due to a locking mechanism failure. The contact also stated that he would have to manually turn the mirror back and when driving at various speeds, the mirror would shake. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. While driving unknown speeds, the heater blower failed to disburse air and the panel indicator was illuminated. The contact called a local dealer(erhard bmw of bloomfield, 1845 s telegraph rd, bloomingfield hills, mi 48302) and was advised to schedule a service appointment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the local dealer. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2006 bmw 325xi. The contact stated that while opening the rear passenger side window, the glass went off track and fell into the door panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear window regulator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure continued to occur. The contact indicated that the failure had occurred once on the rear passenger side window and three times on the rear driver side windows. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 114,000.
